What hoops do you have to jump
through to get an article published on the Alchemy Guide?
It's really not that hard to do But there are some things
that you should keep in mind if you're interested
Length. We are generally looking for articles that
are from 5 paragraphs to 5 pages in length. The deciding factor
should be simply, "How long does it have to be to cover the
topic well." While better writing and more depth is appreciated,
words for the sake of words are not.
Style? Write as you write best. If that is in character,
then so be it. If you write best as yourself, then that is
just as acceptable. While style does not rank above the substance
of an article, it is also appreciated.
HTML? Experience with HTML is not needed. But you
are welcome to format them if you wish. Articles should be
submitted as either HTML or Text documents. Graphics are acceptable
when they are useful and not gratuitous in nature.
Updates. If an article already exists on the Alchemy
Guide and you think you can improve on it, feel free to do
so. I imagine all of the articles will be replaced or updated
from time to time. If the article covers the same information
as another article, it may be used as a replacement, or it
may be presented side by side with the older article.
Depth is valued in all articles. It is better to pick
one small part of a topic and to cover it well than to only
skim the surface of a larger issue. It is certainly okay to
take one of the older articles --that deal with wide topics--
and pick out parts of it to expand on.
Where should you send your submission? You can email
it to the alchemy guide at uoalchemy@stratics.com
or if you'd rather you can post it on our message board. If
you have pictures to include in the article, please attach
them to an email, and keep the size down to a manageable level.
NOTE: If you intend to submit an article to the Ideas/Proposals
(design) section, it is very helpful if your idea has been
tossed around on the various boards dedicated to discussing
changes to UO. The feedback that you recieve in those forums
will help you polish your idea, and greatly enhance the chance
that it will be accepted here.
More questions? Just ask. If you have an article to
submit, you can post it on The Alchemy Forum
or email it to uoalchemy@stratics.com
