"Free me of only half this affliction and I shall be a complete man. You must think of me as being as happy as it is possible to be on this earth-not unhappy. No! I cannot endure it. I will seize fate by the throat. It will not wholly conquer me! Oh, how beautiful it is to live and live a thousand times over." -Beethoven

A Knight's Tribute

I wandered in the wilderness to practice harp and lute
Far south of wondrous Coventry in solace absolute
I practiced scales and rhythms on the tambourine and lyre
And sought to master every note-- perfection my desire.

While travling back to Minoc at the City's Inn to rest
A myriad of Evil beasts did put me to the test
A troupe of Orcs and Ettins, and a troll and harpy too
Attacked me in great numbers as I wore the Royal blue.

Before I could begin to act they struck with furious blows
I saw my life before my eyes so numerous the foes.
I said a prayer to Glorious BE for help in Mortal fight
And bared my soul in melody to put this hoard to flight

While music rang and arrows sang I killed them one by one
With heart and bow and instrument I fought and prayed and spun
Til finally I alone was left alive on battlefield
A royal Knight had fought the fight with honor as his shield

And Joyful in my Spirit did I kneel 'neath shaded tree
And bowed my head among the dead
And Praised the Glorious BE.
