Calandryll
The Healer
"Help, guards tis murder!" Calandryll
heard the cry and immediately ran towards it. Weaving his way
through the think forest, Calandryll came upon a small clearing.
To his horror, he saw his dear friend Melina, the healer being
attacking by a fighter in full plate. Unarmed and untrained in
combat, she was faring poorly and would surely die. With a shout,
Calandryll drew his trusted sword and waded into the fight.
Before the fighter could react, Calandryll landed two good blows
and the fight turned against the fighter.
"Hey, stop, she is evil!", he cried.
Calandryll stated back, "No more so than
me fool!" Calandryll knew Melina had "earned" her
title in much the same manner as himself. Refusing to subject to
the evil Lord Britishs decrees, she had continued to heal
those of "evil" reputation. "Move away from her
and I will stop."
The fighter backed off as did Calandryll.
Suddenly the fighter again attacked Melina. This was all
Calandryll could take and with a mighty strike, he slew the man.
Melina now safe, continued her journey without a word. In a few
moments, his ghostly image appeared. Calandryll concentrated and
soon was able too communicate with it.
"Why did you do that?", he stated.
"Melina tis a friend of mine, she hast
saved mine life more than once. She is no more evil than I am and
I assure you I am not!"
"You are a Dark Lord and you killed me. I
kill evil healers so PKs cant res."
Calandryll knew this new word, PK, to mean a
murder. "Aye, tis true, many murders are healed by them. But
Melina is a healer. She heals all in keeping with the virtue of
Compassion. Not is all it seems. Lord British has labeled many
evil who are not deserving of it. The Chaos shrine is too
dangerous, so I must protect these healers as best I can."
As they talked, another healer entered the
area. Calandryll recognized her as Arieul, a good and kindly
woman who unfortunately was too scared to go against British.
Calandryll continued, "I have no desire to take thine items,
please return to thine Earthy form so that thee may reclaim thy
possessions."
"I will not hurt thee as long as thee dost
promise too leave this woman alone."
The man returned to his earthly form and began
picking up his items. He offered Calandryll some gold, but
Calandryll refused, "Give it to Melina, as an apology."
Calandryll and the fighter found Melina and he
did give the gold, "I dont get it, how did you become evil
if you are not?"
"I never did become evil. I am not evil in
anyway. I refuse to allow the self-righteous bounty hunters to
attack my friends simply because Lord British deems their actions
evil. And during the time when magic twas not an offense I was
forced to defend mineself from a few. This too hurt my
reputation. I have dedicated mine life to exposing British for
what he is, and he hast branded me evil for it."
"Thanks for not looting me. I will think
twice before attacking another healer. I gotta go." The
fighter hurried off, his mind no doubt full of questions.
Calandryll made a final check on Melina and
then was off to seek some much needed rest on his journey back to
Trinsic.
