Dlome

Dlome's Transformation

Of late, fair Trinsic is not so fair anymore. The town is becoming overrun by thieves and has gotten much too crowded. Usually there is such a crowd and such an incredible din at the bank and surrounding area that one cannot even hold a conversation. So, within a week I felt the urge to return to the woods where I grew up. I gathered up 3 adventurers that I knew very well and we set off to the west of Trinsic. We headed toward Yew in search of creatures to fight. Our adventure was quite uneventful, but I did get to practice my magery. We killed many common creatures such as hinds and cows. After 4 days time we made it all the way to Yew. My party was very fatigued from the journey and really wished to return to familiar ground, so we took the moongate back to Trinsic.

We arrived in Trinsic with no event. As we left the area around the moongate an idea came to mind. I ordered my friends to form a line 2 deep at the entrance to the moongate. We all hid and waited silently. Momentarily I heard footsteps in the distance announcing the approach of a fighter. He did not wear much more than regular clothes, but we were not discriminating that night. Sure enough, he walked right by us. Quickly I grabbed his ankles from where I lay. He stumbled and paused to look at what he had caught his feet on, but could not see me. He tried to walk forward, but my comrades behind me grabbed his ankles and held him tight. Suddenly we all appeared and took what valuable items we had. We released him and he darted off. This turned out to be a wise decision, even wiser than even I could predict.

Again we hid and waited. This time a long time passed before another person came by. This time our victim stopped. I think he saw one of us or heard our whisperings. I cannot be sure.

"Hail!" he shouted from a distance.

"Hail sir! There is a murderer in the area sir, be careful!" I lied

"There is?" he replied

"Yes, be careful. He was to the east."

As soon as he received confirmation of my story, he went on to relate how he specifically hunted these killers. I do not know for sure what he said. I simply fed him the lines that his type wanted to hear. I know all about these guys, they are selfish individuals and care nothing about the common folk. Ben and I dealt with many of them while we were friends. The man was much too far away for me to see inside his bags. I thought for a moment as he continued blabbering about his quests and deeds. I needed him closer. Quickly, I reached into my pack and withdrew a small blue bag I had found. It was empty, but would surely serve its purpose. I tossed it on the ground next to where I lay hidden. Sure enough the man walked up. I peeked inside his pouch while his back was turned. He was clearly a mage because he carried many recall runes but unfortunately there was nothing that I could steal. The man continued his blathering for a long time. I quickly grew tired of our conversation and tried to end it, but I could not. He persisted to tell us about his adventures. Soon enough my entire party was whispering demeaning comments about him. 'Twas all very funny, but this man was ruining our trap. Finally I got him to finish his conversation.

He walked around where we lay, and as he passed I said to him "I, Dlome, bow to thee" Twas better than revealing myself but he stopped!

"Hey, I know you!" He shouted.

I am certain that he is no friend of mine, but once again he persisted to make conversation. He was pushing me much too far. We had all traveled for far too long to hold this conversation. My friends started whispering sighs of aggravation. So I took matters into my own hands, but in a way I had never done before. I rummaged through my pack to where I had my extra scrolls. I found the one I was looking for. It lay just where I expected it. It is called energy vortex -- I had never cast it before. My victim hid, but I did not care.

"I grow tired of your talk. Speak no more!" I said. Quickly I invoked the power within the scroll. From the sky dropped a purple cloud of energy. There was an immense whirling sound. A creature that could only have come from the gates of hell itself appeared. The power of its presence was absolutely overwhelming. In mere seconds it grabbed my victim out of hiding and ripped his spirit from his body. He died instantly.

I stood where I was a moment. I did not rummage through the corpse. I was disoriented. The magic was more than I had ever experienced, its taste still lingered in my arms and its energy burned in my heart. 'Twas absolutely amazing. One of my companions shook me.

"Dlome are you ok?"

"Yes" I replied in what must have been a shaky voice.

I rummaged through the corpse and took the belongings. It did not take long for us to clean the body. A ghost manifested before me.

"OoooOooOOOoOoOooooo" he said.

"Hold sir." I said as I contacted his plane

"What is it you need sir?"

"Why did you do that?" The ghost implored.

"You talked much to long sir. My patience wore thin."

Once again the ghost began to babble about the situation. I replied with less than half interest.

"Beware of rogues in the future sir. Good bye and good day" My companions and I left for Trinsic.

After that occurrence I will never be the same. I have practiced magic for a long time but never did I know the power I possessed. I pity any who cross my path in the future, for Dlome is no longer harmless. My life is changed.
