Xavori
The Red Army
I was rogue camping (hiding in
bank and stealing while naked) in the bank of Vesper when word
reached me of a "red army" gathering in front of the
tailor shop. Armies mean war, and war means loot for the
intelligent rogue, so naturally I went to join the new army.
Apparently, my reputation
preceded me for several players immediately pointed me out as a
known thief. They weren't even polite about it, saying such
unfair things as "Watch Xavori. He's a stupid thief"
(unfair for it is not true. I'm a very intelligent thief).
However, one of the more opportunistic amongst them who knew that
I disliked PK's (corpses are bad for the rogue business),
however, offered me the chance to improve my reputation by
joining them in hunting down some PK's who were terrorizing the
road between Vesper and Minoc.
I quickly clicked through the
paperdolls of my possible comrades in arms and noticed a lot of
chain armor, orc helms, and apprentice level fighting. Putting
this together with my knowledge of the fighting ability of the
PK's they were hunting (journeyman swordsman and better), I
figured it would be a slaughter. I joined immediately.
My unarmed state concerned some
of my new comrades in arms. I explained that I was a rogue and
would steal from the player-killers during the fight to distract
them while the fighters took care of business. One laughed and
said, "Normally, I'd kill someone like you, but you're all
right." I made it a point to remember his name
"Kylar".
They continued recruiting new
members for several minutes, giving all the new recruits free dye
jobs to red uniforms. I enthusiastically put mine red robe on and
started shouting , "Death to the blue PKs" and
"PK's blood shall flow red as our robes" All in all it
was most humorous.
Finally, our army moved out.
First, to the Ironwood Inn on the mainland at Vesper, then to the
beach where the PK's were rumored to have grouped up. Of course,
they weren't there (PK's have a nasty tendency not to do stupid
things like group up out in the open, unlike this foolish bunch
of newbies I had joined). We sent several mounted scouts out to
find the fiends.
After a few minutes, the first
scouts reported the Blue's were in the woods just a few screens
north. We ran through the woods to have at the foul fiends. We
found the PK's engaged with the other scouts and most of the
group immediately attacked.
However, even though I was one
of the best fighters in the group (sad, but true), I did not join
in right away. Instead, I moved up behind a group of red
swordsman hacking away and a PK in blue. The PK quickly
dispatched two of the red fools, so I walked up to thier corpses
and hid. I dug through their bodies and grabbed their armor and
anything else of value. The PK dispatched another of the red
fools, so I looted him as well.
It was now down to the PK and
the one red fighter who seemed to be holding his own. I clicked
on the red one to see who it was, and to my suprise (and joy) it
was Kylar. The PK was starting to take more than he was giving,
so I came out of hiding and walked up behind Kylar.
"Xavori, help me take out
this freak."
I dropped into combat mode, and
said, ";)" I stabbed Kylar in the back. He died
instantly.
The blue PK looked at me, and
said, "whoa".
I bowed and replied, "The
Dread Lord Xavori at your sevice, milord."
He chuckled and said, "If
you're killing these losers, why the red."
"Because it breaks their
spirits to see someone they think is on their side kill them.
Besides, I told them I was a rogue and they trusted me anyways.
They are too dumb to let live."
"Too true," he
replied.
I grabbed Kylar's equipment and
took off my red robe and dyed it black using Kylar's dye kit. I
then strolled from red corpse to red corpse looting all the
really good stuff. Every now and then a red fighter would be
holding his own with one of the blue's, so I'd
"accidentally" attack him instead of the foul PK's.
It was all too much fun. I
walked away from the battlefield completely unharmed and carrying
four complete suits of chain mail; a pile of swords, maces, and
shields; and enough miscellaneous equipment to take up any
profession my heart desired. I sold most of the equipment,
keeping only a single suit of armor and buying myself a new sword
and new clothes. I then went to the bank and deposited my
gold...the rogues who were camping left me alone as a
professional courtesy (after all, I trained most of them on this
great way to make money), so I gave them some gold as a show of
thanks.
Overall, the battle was a
smashing success. I got to help teach newbie fighters to plan
their attacks on successful PK's better. I also managed to punish
an arrogant fop who was too dense to realize that anyone who
tells you they are a rogue even when their title reads warrior,
is not to be trusted.
