| This section contains the 'nitty-gritty' of blacksmithing;
that is - what it takes to produce certain items and your chances
of accomplishing the task. |

| 1. Definition of Minimum Skill |
| Minimum Skill is the Blacksmithing skill you must have achieved
before you can make an item the first time. The Minimum Skills
for the different items can be found by clicking on the link
within each table. |
| 2. Definition of Maximum Skill Gain |
| I recommend to follow the general guidelines stated in the
Skill Gain Guide. While it it is
possible to gain skill by not following the guidelines, it is
more costly in ingots required because skill gain is slower. |
| 3. Notes on Skill Gain / Success Rates |
| Skill gains are just averages over a longer period of skill
gain. Sometimes you will get two increases of skill within 10
ingots even at 80% or 90% levels, sometimes you will require
many more than the average amount of ingots. |
Note:
- Blacksmithing stat-influence is approximately 90% Blacksmithing,
10% Strength.
- All information was gathered from 1.0% upwards, which
equals 0.0% base Blacksmithing skill.
- The information is based on Client-Version 2.0.0 as of
April 2000.

Item Quality (Exceptional Weapons
& Armor)
- Exceptional Weapons and Armor have more Durability and
do more damage or give more protection than Average Weapons
and Armor do. Examples:
- Exceptional Plate = AR of 48, Durability = +5 to +10
hps
- Exceptional Viking = 26+ Damage + 1-3 Damage (Ruin/Might),
Durability = +10 to +20 hps
- Exceptional Heater = with 70% parrying 1 less AR than
Chaos Shield, Durability = +5 to +10 hps
- Average Weapons and Armor are the items you can find at
the Shops and have normal Durability. Examples:
- Average Plate = AR of 40
- Average Viking = 26+ Damage
- Below Average Weapons and Armor do less damage or give
less protection than Average weapons and Armor do and have
less Durability. Examples:
- Below Average Plate = AR of 32, Durability = -5 to
-10 hps
- Below Average Viking = 21-25 Damage, Durability =
-10 to -20 hps

Further Notes and Tips
- Grandmaster Smiths (with 100 skill) can have a Maker's
Mark placed on the item they have created if it is of
Exceptional quality.
- Currently you cannot make any Hatchets or Pick-Axes with
Smithing.
- Higher Strength seems to aid while smithing below 70%.
Afterwards the stat-based effect slowly dwindles to 0.
- Mining is almost
a prerequisite for Smiths with ambitions.
