| A Guide to Champion Spawns; by Fluffy |
Champion Spawns and Champions:
At some locations in Ilshenar, Felucca and the Tokuno Islands you can come across what
is commonly know as a Champion Spawn.
A Champion Spawn is an area where one of six different groups of
monsters will spawn. If enough of these monsters are killed fast
enough, then their Champion will spawn.
The Champion is a very tough breed of monster, that can be quite
hard to kill, but it will be rewarding in the long run.
Champion Spawn Locations and Inactive Spawns:
There is a total of 21 different locations where you might find
a Champion Spawn. 3 in Ilshenar, 5 in the Dungeons of Felucca,
12 in the Lost Lands of Felucca and 1 in the Tokuno Islands.
You can find detailed information on the location on the Champion
Spawn Locations page.
In Ilshenar the 3 spawns are always active, the one at Spirituality
is always the Forest Lord monster group and the two others rotate
randomly between 5 of the other monster groups.
In the Tokuno Islands the spawn is always the special Sleeping Dragon monster group, which can't be found anywhere else.
In Felucca some of the spawns will be inactive some days and active
other days, completely random.
There will always be one location in the Dungeons and one location
in the Lost Lands which is active though, more locations can be
active depending on how many players are in the Dungeon and Lost
Lands areas.
There is a number of ways to tell if you are in a Champion Spawn
area:
If you find a strange black altar with a pentagram on top.
If you find a large amount of the same kind of monsters in a relatively
small area.
If the area is darker than the surrounding area.
(The last two are only true if the spawn area is active)
Summoning a Champion:
To summon a Champion you must first cause the spawn to grow more
powerful. To do that you must kill as many of the monsters there
as you can, as fast as you can.
You can tell how close you are to summoning the Champion by going
to the center of the spawn area and look at the altar you can find
there.

On the altar you will find a number of red and white Skull Candles.
The red candles are an indicator of how big the spawn is and how
close you are to summoning the Champion, the more candles there
is the closer you are.
The white candles are an indicator of how close you are to getting
another red candle.
The more red candles there is on the altar, the more powerful are
the creatures that are spawning.
There can be a total of 16 red candles on the altar (16 levels
of the spawn) and 5 white candles (you will never see the 5th because
it will actually spawn a new red one). Once all 16 red and 5 white
candles are there, then the Champion will spawn and all the candles
will disappear.
To get more red candles on the altar you need to kill enough monsters
within a 10 minute timeframe, the number of monsters depends on
the difficulty of the monsters. As you kill monsters, you will see
the white candles appear on the shrine. Each of these represents
20% of the necessary monsters having been killed (1 white candle
means 20% have been killed, 2 means 40%, etc.).
If you get to 100% of the monsters killed, the spawn level moves
forward to the next level, another red candle appears, all the white
ones disappear and a new 10 minute timer starts for the next level.
If you fail to get 100%, it will either restart the process at the
same level, or if you fail miserably, it will move you backward
one level and you lose a red candle.
Around level 2 you would have to kill about 250 of the spawning
monsters within 10 minutes to progress to the next level.
Once the Champion is summoned, it must be killed, so you can be
rewarded for your valiant deeds.
Rewards for Killing a Champion:
The rewards for killing a Champion are different depending on which
facet you are on.
In Ilshenar the only special reward you get for killing
a champion is that you become eligible for a third tier hero title
on your paperdoll. The title will only show up if you have killed
enough of the monsters related to the champion.
Only the players who have done enough damage to the champion to
have looting rights will become eligible for the third tier title.
You can see all the different titles here.
In the Tokuno Islands the reward is a special title, just like in Ilshenar.
In Felucca the rewards for killing a Champion are much greater.
In addition to the third tier hero title eligibility you also get
a chance to get a +10, +15 or +20 Scroll
of Power for a random skill.
The Scrolls of Power are awarded to random players who do damage
to the Champion.
A maximum of 12 scrolls is given out from each champion, 6 from
damaging the champion and another 6 from protecting players using
the justice virtue.
A lesser form of Scroll of Power, a +5 scroll, is also awarded
to players for just killing the normal monsters in the spawn. Any
monster in the spawn has a small random chance to give one of these
lesser scrolls.
The scrolls will appear in the backpack of the players who are
awarded them.
The +10, +15 and +20 Scrolls of Power are all "cursed",
which means that they unlike most other items will stay behind on
your dead body to be looted if you should happen to die, it is also
possible for thieves to steal them. +5 Scrolls are NOT "cursed"
and will stay with your ghost when you die (only in the Dungeon/Lost
Lands).
In Felucca a special item will also appear on the corpse of the
Champion, a so called Champion Skull. The exact name of this skull
is different depending on the Champion it was taken from.
This skull can be used to summon the "Super Champion",
The Harrower.
The Harrower:
Once a Champion is killed in Felucca a dark moongate will appear.
This moongate will take you to a room, know as the Star Room, in
Terathan Keep.
In the Star Room you can find six altars, one for each Champion.
On these altars you can place the skull of the Champion you killed.
Once all six skulls are in place, The
Harrower will spawn in a random Felucca dungeon and a dark moongate
leading to the entrance of that dungeon will appear on the altar.
The Harrower will be quite hard to kill. In fact you have to kill
it twice, because when you first kill it, then the True
Harrower will spawn along with a lot of Tentacles
of the Harrower.
When the True Harrower finally dies, those who have earned it will
be awarded a Scroll
of Power that will increase their Stat-cap.
Those who did enough damage to the Harrower will also be awarded
with a new kind of hero title, believed to be related to how many
Champions you have assisted in killing.
The Monster Groups:
There are six different monster groups, each with their own Champion.
For each group there are certain monsters that spawns at certain
levels of the spawn. When the spawn progresses to a higher level
some of the lesser spawn might stay around too, including when the
Champion spawns.
The number of candles representing each level might vary slightly
from spawn to spawn (+/- 1 candle), but the numbers shown here should
give a general idea of how the levels look.
The Hero Titles:
The hero titles are awarded for killing the monsters that spawns
in the Champion spawns. The first two tiers of titles are attainable
by simply killing the normal monsters, but the third tier can only
be attained if you are eligible for it. You become eligible for
the third tier by killing the Champion.
If you have killed enough monsters in two different groups you
are eligible for two titles but only the title for which you have
scored the highest amount of points will show up. Killing other
groups will not lower your current title.
Titles decay at a constant speed even if you are not logged in.
Killing harder creatures will let you keep your title longer. I'm
not going to give you specific numbers but as an example: Say the
titles decay at a rate of 10 points per day. A rat is worth 1 point
and a ratman mage is worth 4 points. So, you could kill 10 rats
to keep your title for another day, or 3 ratman mages would let
you have it for a little longer... (12 points) It is a little more
intricate than that because there are maximum values you can get
to for killing certain things. For instance you cannot get enough
points to get to the third tier by killing the lowest creatures
(like rats for example.) This is so you actually have to *work*
a bit to get higher tiers instead of just killing tons of low end
stuff.
Each of the six monster groups have their own set of titles.
Killing the Harrower will result in a different set of titles,
which work in a different way. The title shows how many of the different
"normal" champions you have killed, the first tier is
for only killing the Harrower and the seventh tier is for killing
the Harrower and all the other champions.
