History and Lore

The discovery of the new lands is very much interwoven into the trials, tragedies, and triumphs that have come in our land over past Britannian years. As with any story, it's not simply a childish tale conceived in the vacuum of a crystal ball. The events of this tale touch and hint on the very things that shaped our land both inside our hearts, and under our feet.

The best place to begin is very long ago. It was very soon after the showdown between Lord British and Lord Blackthorn for the creation of a new order of knights between their respective idealogies. Back then, a now infamous group was just becoming the terrible scourge on our land that they would remain for quite some time. Originally they called themselves the Zog Cabal, a name which revealed nothing of their intentions, and only cast confusions as to their origins. Many kind and valuable members of our society were killed in engagements with these criminals for many years. The noble trainer of the guards in Trinsic, Hartham, was felled by a poisoned dagger in his back. Tali Desryn, the wife of the famous Finth Desryn, is also assumed dead from an attack by these monsters. Indeed, once it was believed that we'd lost our hero, Lord CrawWorth himself to these people, only to watch the public, led by Sage Winslow, rescue him with little time to spare.

They changed their name to the Followers of Armageddon just before they were caught in an attempt at casting a terrible spell. The spell was suspected to be the spell of armageddon. A spell that, if cast successfully, would have surely destroyed the entire world. Thankfully, these members of FoA were not successful in causing mass destruction. They were, however, successful in causing massive earthquakes all over the land. In the investigation that followed, many mountainsides were examined and entrances and caves previously unknown to anyone were discovered.

It was discovered that these caves led to an entirely new continent... a new land, untouched by the rule or culture of Britannia. This land offered the possibility of an entirely new frontier, boasting new flora and fauna for people to make use of.

Lord British was quick to form a party to officially explore these new lands. CrawWorth, having recently recovered from torture and near death at the hands of the FoA, was chosen to lead the group. He was accompanied by a fighter, a ranger, a mapmaker, a mage, and a journalist. The group of five did well during the first few days, discovering the new lands at quick pace and staying alive through cunning and preparedness. However, expected triumph quickly became terrible sacrifice. One by one, members of the group began to die in the grips of these new lands. CrawWorth became ill, throughout the expedition he became continually more tired, and the illness even went so far as to force CrawWorth to begin coughing up blood. Eventually the exploration party becomes involved in a last-ditch effort to recover a missing team member, and this is further complicated by the fact that their search has led them almost straight into an internal war within the new lands. In their attempt to flee the battlefield, The mapmaker dies, and only CrawWorth and the keeper of the journal make it to a boat to escape. They drift for hours, and CrawWorth's illness, combined with a vile poison on a Terathan arrow in his leg cause him to lose consciousness and die in the boat. The keeper of the journal for the trip infects herself with this poison while attempting to remove the bolt from CrawWorth's leg, and dies soon after drifting to the docks of Britain.

It was soon thereafter that Lord British himself opened the door for all of his people's to make use of the newly discovered continent. It will always remind me of the great sacrifices taken to discover this new land. At the cost of a hero, we have gained a new understanding of our world, and it shall never be forgotten so long as the land remains.
