An Interview With EM Bennu
| Posted on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, 4:02 PM EDT by Joanna Weaver (Atlantic) |
Some time ago, I was offered the chance to interview our very own EM Bennu. Many of you know him from the events he hosts on our shard. For those of you who can't make it to the events often or for those of you who just want to know more about our beloved event moderator, I present it to you now. JW: When did you start playing UO? EM Bennu: I purchased the original UO Box, the one with the cloth map and pin back in late 1997. I was a hardcore player of both Ultima Underworld, and Ultima the False Prophet when I was younger. I came across a copy of Ultima Online with the signature cloth map and immediately grabbed it. To be honest at that point in time the “online” game concept was a very foreign idea… Once I started playing, it was and still is absolutely amazing. JW: What made you decide to become an Event Moderator? EM Bennu: I am an author by trade, spinning words and tales is both a talent and a passion. When you write a book, (even in this era of eBooks) it takes weeks, months or even years to get proper feedback for your ideas and plots. As an EM, feedback is instantaneous and brutally honest. The very idea of being able to DM (Dungeon Master) for up to 200 people at one time is thoroughly amazing to me and I love every second of it. JW: What do you like about the Atlantic shard? EM Bennu: Atlantic is my special little flower, and I love it to pieces; from its beautiful petals, to its sharp little thorns. Atlantic is large, and it is like the central hub for virtually everything. There is a vibrant Roleplaying Community, a very active PvP community, and also a very large “average Joe” population as well. It is this mix that truly makes Atlantic unique and special. JW: Is there anyone who was like a role model or mentor for you? EM Bennu: Being so steeped in Ultima lore as I was as a child I would have to say that Richard Garriott was very much a role model and certainly a passive mentor. I soaked up Ultima lore and the games like nursery rhymes as a kid. JW: What has been your favorite event (that you have run) so far? EM Bennu: For certain I would have to say the whole “Addie” string of events, especially the last few with the Time Lord and Addie interacting. That whole plot line means a lot to me and I will cherish it for a very long time… the players made that plot work, much more than I did. There were a large portion of players that “adopted” Addie and fostered him into the man he is now. It was an amazing thing to watch and an amazing paradigm to interact with. The biggest challenge with that plotline was to not let anyone down as far as story was concerned. I had given so much control over his future to the players that when it came time for me to take the reins in again I was worried I would leave people disappointed. Thankfully, I think everyone ended up happy and satisfied with the ending… and it made sense! JW: What are your favorite types of events to run? EM Bennu: It is no secret that I love quite a bit of story, roleplaying, plot and fiction in my events. I see that as a MAJOR part of my job as an EM, the plot, the story and the fiction is just as important to me as the monsters or the loot… if not more important. My favorite types of events are plot driven fiction events that are totally based off of player interaction. Meaning that it is the players that decide what happens not me. It doesn’t happen very often when the EM and the players feed off each other, bouncing ideas and interaction back and forth to create a story of mutual creation… but when it does happen it is pure magic. JW: What have you found to be your biggest challenge when running an event? EM Bennu: The biggest challenge when running an event is when things just don’t work out as planned. There have been a few events that had great plans and intentions… but once they were rolled out they just didn’t work out for a variety of reasons. I have had monsters that were way too powerful and killed everyone. I have had monsters that were way too weak, and the event lasted 20 minutes. I have also had an event that for whatever reason players just didn’t interact and thought they were watching a movie that would progress without their input… Being an EM is very much like being a juggler at the circus, the rest of the show is great, but if you drop a ball everyone notices. JW: What are your event plans for the future? EM Bennu: I have quite a few plans coming up revolving mostly around Danica Amandine, her sister and the Knights of the Crux Ansata as a whole. EM Promethium is also taking the first steps in starting up the evil side of things with the Crux’s sister group. The Live event arc is also starting to ramp up, which should be loads of fun! JW: I understand that you are a fan of Ultima lore and the Ultima games, does this help when you are creating events to run? EM Bennu: Yes, I very much see the Ultima fiction as a canvas. We are not allowed to mess with too much ‘doctrine’ but it is nice to at least have things make sense in the framework of the world provided. JW: Who is your favorite Ultima character (so far)? EM Bennu: I am very fond of the Knights of the Crux Ansata fiction and just about anything from Ultima Underworld I. However, if I had to pick just a single character from Ultima fiction… Lord Blackthorn. JW: Who do you think was the greatest villain (so far)? EM Bennu: Hmmmm. Mondain, Minax and Exodus were pretty bad. But Guardian was an amazingly rough guy, he was kinda a ‘grown up villain’ and decimated worlds. JW: When you are not busy being an EM, do you enjoy other aspects of the game, such as hunting, pvp, or crafting? EM Bennu: Yes, I used to be a Red PK… ages ago. I was also a very major crafter at one point in time, which I loved. Mostly now though I enjoy hunting minor stuff that people would call boring, dread spiders and the like. The most fun I have in game as a player is the same type of thing I enjoy while EMing, player interaction, role playing and stories. JW: What would be your greatest UO wish? EM Bennu: From a game wide standpoint: I wish people would interact more with one another. I really miss the days of crowding around Britain Forge to get armor repaired. I don’t like it when players try and be their own island, purely self sufficient so that they never have to talk, interact, depend on or trust anyone else. I think it takes something out of the world. From an EM standpoint: I really wish people would give us more feedback that is constructive. I get lonely, and my email box is always open... JW: Do you have any advice for anyone interested in becoming an EM? EM Bennu: Talk to Mesanna, be honest about your intentions and be willing to commit, don’t join on a whim… and make sure you know what you are getting into. Being an EM is a great thing, but it is not for everyone. JW: Is there anything you want to say to the people who are reading this? EM Bennu: I hope that for the most part people really enjoy the EM events on Atlantic; I really do see Atlantic as “My Server”, just as a player would see Atlantic as “My World”. I care about what happens here on Atlantic and I do my best. I hope that it is enough and that players really enjoy what I do here for them. In the end, being an EM isn’t really about me at all. It is about you, it is about each and every player that comes to the event, the story is for you, the interaction is for you to interact… don’t be shy! That sums up my awesome interview with EM Bennu. He had one more interesting note to add, “today (8/9/2011) is the 1 year anniversary of the day I was robed. “ Thank you for the interview and for everything you do for us on Atlantic and elsewhere, Bennu! Happy 1st Anniversary, and hopefully there will be many more! ~Joanna Weaver |

ODE Presents : Clue UO Style
| Posted on Thursday, June 23, 2011, 5:48 AM EDT by Joanna Weaver (Atlantic) |
- A team will be able to make as many suggestions as they wish to any of the suspects. A suggestion will be: A suspect, a weapon and a place. If the suggestion is wrong, nothing happens.
- A team will be able to make ONE AND ONLY ONE accusation which will be their final answer. This accusation will be made through a book that will be given to each team at the beginning of the event. If the accusation is wrong, the team making the accusation will be eliminated.
- You will have a small delay before you can make a suggestion again to the same suspect (~1Min)
- There are 9 suspects, 9 possible weapons and 9 places within Tazar’s estate.
Every time a team will make a suggestion to a suspect (ODE member), the answer can either be “I do not know” or “It’s not possible because …”. Each suspect will have his specific portion of the answer so run around and you will get a different answer from each suspect to the same suggestion. Keep in mind that the suspects will roam around the estate (they will not remain stationary). Of course, time will be the issue. If another team makes an accusation and is right, they will win the game, but giving a wrong answer will get them disqualified. In the end, you should be fairly certain of your accusation before you make it. The loot: 50Mil to the winning team! Time allowed: None specified… The game will go on as long as there is still a team that has not been eliminated or until a team wins. (For any questions, please contact Geezer at ICQ 564-517-995, or any member of ODE) |

Our Boy, Our King, And Our Time Lord
| Posted on Thursday, May 12, 2011, 10:58 AM EDT by Joanna Weaver (Atlantic) |
Saturday night, Britannia did not receive its new king. Even now as I write, I am trying to compose my thoughts about what happened. We gathered there in the throne room of Castle British, to await the crowning of young Adamu Wellings, as he became the next king of Britannia. Lady Danica Amandine of The Knights Of The Crux Ansata began the joyous event with a short speech about our Adamu. “ When Addie first came to us, a young scared child... We had a decision to make. We found a boy, one we were told was dangerous. Or at least had that possibility. But as many noted, we all have the capability to bring those around us to ruin. It is what is in our hearts that reflects our actions. And so, you, my Crux Ansata... and Britannia as a whole embraced the boy. We have molded his heart into a reflection of ourselves. What a way to mold and foster our future King. So tonight, on this night of nights. We gather here to crown Adamu Edom Wellings to the Throne of Britannia. Long Live the King. Adamu will enter from the east and will speak to each of you. Once he sits in the throne, he will be King of Britannia.” Her heart-warming speech given, Danica left to bring our future king in. As cries of “Long live the king!” swelled in the chamber, Lord Adamu Wellings entered through the double doors and began his walk down the carpeted isle. He paused before reaching the throne and turned to address us all, giving a salute. “ Hello, everyone, “ he gazed down at his robes. “Danica picked these out. I hope they are ok. Danica says once I sit on the throne I am King of Britannia.” He took a step down, away from the throne. “ I want you all to know, how much I thank you... For my life. You did not have to spare me. Yet you showed compassion upon a young helpless child. Many of you I call my friends. Many of you I see as my own brothers and sisters. All of you I see as family. I want you to know, I do not take the throne lightly. Or out of any sort of lust for power. I think I can do good things, but I will need your help. A Monarch can not lead without his people. I am just as much your servant as your King. I thank you for this honor. I have but one request of you. Unite. We must all unite under the Banner of Britannia. No longer can we be so easily welcoming of outside forces which seek to do us harm. Britannia was once a pure nation. But we have allowed it to wither from too much outside influence. Let it be known, that is not my way. Britannia will be pure again.” He gave a quick, sour glance upward at the noisy flapping of the gargoyles that were gathered. “ And now, I shall seat my buttox upon the throne that has remained empty for far too long. Again, I thank you all.” As he was about to sit on the throne and take the new title and responsibility, the Time Lord appeared. “ Do not take that throne! Stop this at once!” the Time Lord thundered. Cries of surprise went round the chamber. “ This is our world, you are not welcome here!” Adamu countered. “ Adamu, this is not your path. You have a much different destiny!” “ These people determine my path, not you!” Adamu said. “ Come with me Adamu Wellings,” the Time Lord instructed. “ I will not!” Adamu shouted. “ It is time for you to go,” he said, “You know it to be true as well as I.” Immediately, there were cries of protest from the Crux Ansata among the audience. “ Go? Go where? This is my home.” Now Adamu's words sounded unsure, as if he was actually considering it. “ It is not your home. It was only a sanctuary for a short while.” “ A Sanctuary?” Addie gave the Time Lord an odd look. “ Yes, your nursery, young Adamu. Here you grew and learned. Now that time is over.“ “ Then what I saw in my dream...“ “ You must take hold of your true destiny,” he urged. “ The world in the baby's crib...” “ Come with me, Adamu,” the Time Lord waited, holding out his hand. “ If I go, I want my friends to come with,” Adamu said. “ They may follow, for a while,” he said. “ Let us see what this Time Lord wants,” Adamu said, and we all followed the two through a gate. I was heartened that I was not the only one present who felt more than a little protective of our soon-to-be king. The Time Lord had brought us to the Crux Ansata Hall. As we proceeded further in, I noticed that the back had been opened and a long hallway stretched out beyond. It was this hallway we all ventured down. We gathered in a room at the end. “ There is more to your existance than this place,” the Time Lord said, “You have much growing to do. Come, Adamu.” A door was opened and Adamu stood, staring into the starry darkness beyond. “ The Ethereal Void?” “ Yes, this is your destiny.” “ Do not go Addie!” shouted Bon Iver, “Addie we are your family, you can not part with us for a second time!” “ It is time to go, Adamu.” “ What if I want to stay here?” Adamu asked. “ Do you truly?” the Time Lord responded, “More than just this place needs you.” “ These people need a ruler, someone strong...” Adamu gazed out into the infinite. “ That someone is not you.” “ Am I going to die?” “ All mortal things die. But it is not time for that, yet.” “ My friends...” “ And not for quite a long while if I had to guess.” I stood, transfixed. I wondered what Addie would choose, but I knew that it was his decision to make. It was like watching one of my own children, so many years spent in the raising and the inevitable heading out on their own. My eyes were full of tears, for I had a suspicion he would take the starry path and part ways with us. That mysterious path, full of promised adventure. It would beckon to all the dreamers and imaginers, and our Addie, our would-be Tinker King, was one of those extraordinary thinkers. A bit sadly, he turned to speak to us. “ I am called into infinity, if I am ever able... I will return to you. I love each of you.” The Time Lord once more held out his hand to Adamu and the young man took hold. “ Let us go, Adamu.” Together, they walked hand in hand into the Etherial Void. We watched them depart from our world. Some of us were sad, some happy, some just confused. I spent some time leaning against the fence in thought, but I was shaken from this meditation by the realization that battle was taking place behind me. I turned to find my fellow Crux and Britannians pitched in war with a Guardian of the Void. The fight did not last long, with so many of Britannian's strongest present. When it was over, many realized that the Time Lord had returned, alone. We gathered to hear what he would say, and find out what had happened to Addie. “ I remember you all of you,” he said. It was a very strange thing for the Time Lord to say. “ Where did you take Adamu?” Someone asked. “ Adamu? Oh, the boy. You do not realize... It has been eons for me. But only seconds for you. I am so tired. Tired of the balance. Tired of keeping things in order. It is time for me to rest.” He looked down at his robes, and then suddenly revealed himself. Gasps echoed from the walls, I was stunned, myself. “ ADDIE!” came the cries, and “Adamu?”. For, indeed, it seemed our Addie was before us, although much much older. “ Things have been so chaotic for you. You have many questions.” “ Addie that you?” asked Hans. The answer was yes. Truly, he appeared to have aged a lifetime in just the moments he'd been gone. “ Have you been gone a long time?” I asked. “ Eons. Longer than most of you can imagine. But I am tired. I am very tired. I promised. That I would return here if I could, and when I could. I am done in the Void. I can not remain there. I am an old man. Someone else must take my place. May I spend what days I have left here? Among you, my friends and my family?“ The answer was, of course, yes. Addie had been raised by all of us, he was family. As I headed back home to Magincia that eve, my mind was awash in a stream of ponderings. I wondered who Danica would find to be king. I wondered who would take Addie's place as the next Time Lord. I also wondered if he was the same Time Lord who had played advisor to Lord British. If Adamu truly meant to reside in Magincia, I would have plenty of time to learn the answers to all these questions and more. And so there you have it, my faithful readers. As promised, I have given an update on Time Lord activity. Though I cannot say for sure when or if we will see any more for a long, long time. |

Spring Festival 2011 - A Fabulous Fun-Filled Weekend for All
| Posted on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, 8:08 PM EDT by Andrasta (Atlantic) |
Spring Festival 2011 Friday, April 15 Hosted by both YEW and TWT, under the banner of the alliance "A Sosarian Empire", this past weekend we attended the Spring Festival Friday evening and all day Saturday. From Sunwolf of YEW: Quote: Today, we revive one of Yew's fondest and most ancient traditions; the celebration of The Grape Harvest. Since time immemorable, the Monks of the Empath Abbey have selected and cultivated some of the finest wine grapes in this land to produce its most remarkable vintages. Some of which, we will be enjoying soon. But first, we wish to pause to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of our good Queen Dawn; daughter of Yew, who led the charge against overwhelming odds to defend the land she loved. We wish to remember those galliant souls, who in our darkest hour gave their life's blood to expell the blight of Virtuebane and his pernicious army from this land, so that we could have this day of celebration. We have additional cause to celebrate, as a new Magincia is being rebuilt as we speak; its people distancing themselves from their once vain glorious roots; instead choosing to follow a more modest path. We are told that New Magincia will become the eighth city of virtue in this land, dedicated to the virtue of humility. We welcome the community of New Magincia to our "humble"event. We would also like to thank the monks of the abbey for all their hard work in preparation of the event; From the long hours picking the grapes by hand, the hours stomping them with their feet, and the long hours of sampling each vat. Many of the brothers are passed out right now, presumably from exhaustion. They really put their sole into their work....and their toes too....... and you can taste it. So, enjoy! And soon we will begin the days events. |
The marksmanship competitions were enjoyed by all in attendance. Although I doubted the wisdom of serving such potent wine to people armed with sharp pointy things, no one was injured or killed during the festivities. Suprisingly few steps were blocked with passed out revellers. I arrived in time to see many prominent citizens from Yew's glory days in attendance. A few of us who had not been to Dawn's Graveside went to pay our respects. Thankfully only one child was bitten at the Undead Petting Zoo. A fun evening for those in attendance. I particularily enjoyed Draken's Triva of Old Yew Guilds. I grew up in Yew and have many fond memories of my youthful days there. Well done & thank you, People of YEW. Spring Festival 2011 Saturday, April 16 Saturday's events started promptly at 1:00 pm EST. We arrived at Sinful Candie's Vendor Emporium expecting something special. An Event gate had graciously been set up by EM Bennu. Our Hostess guided us through a tastefully decorated garden to the roof to take our first look at VIRTUE LAND. "Virtue Land" VIRTUE LAND is a real working board game that is creatively unique and lots of fun to play. Roll the dice and navigate your way around the board trying to avoid poor rolls and pitfalls. Lady Sinful Candie is graciously leaving it up for awhile. I highly recommend gathering a bunch of friends to go play it before its gone. A truely original event that was very enjoyable. The Virtue Land Game Winners were: 1st Game - MM 2nd Game - Corinthian 3rd Game - KA "The Kissing Booth" "Retro Duel" Many brave wizards and warriors came to enter an old fashion retro duel and battled it out in the mage or warrior division. Rules were very basic in this event with skills being your primary ally just like the old days. The Retro Duel Winners were: 1st - Acheron 2nd - Gotter 3rd - Demon "Sexiest Legs Contest" We didn't quite have enough participants for a separate male/female division so we opened it up to different species. The judging panel included Tabitha of TWT, Isk of Magincia and myself. It is hard to be impartial when there is a yummy set of chicken legs involved. The Sexiest Legs Contest Winners were: 1st - Southern Devil 2nd - Lanarayla 3rd - Semmerset This Game although fairly simple was a great deal of fun. Participants paid an entry fee and were let out into the Tinkered boxes to select which box they would like to risk opening. Some Boxes held an explosive surprise and some held prizes of "lesser value". The "lesser value" prizes were the most fun. I had the pleasure of winning a "Start Your Own Dance Studio Guide and Suit as well as a Fire Elemental Costume pictured below. Congrats to the creative mind that thought these prizes up. You had us laughing in the isles. "Spring Festival Conclusions" What an amazing amount of work put forward from the folks of YEW and TWT. I look forward to attending next years Festival although I have a hard time imagining how your group is going to top the effort of your members and the fun that your guests had. Not since Xanthyrella's famous Wintermoor events have I personally attended an event that was as well done and entertaining. If you could not attend this past weekend, I urge you to go look at the TWT Event House, such is the intricate work done by Sinful Candie. The Runebook is still on the steps of Goodman's Makuto and is worth the trip. Thank you to YEW and TWT for the fabulous fun filled Spring Festival 2011 |

Spring Festival 2011 | |
| Posted on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 9:01 PM EDT by Andrasta (Atlantic) |
Spring Festival 2011 Friday, April 15 Hosted by both YEW and TWT, under the banner of the alliance "A Sosarian Empire", this weekend we usher in Spring with a Festival on both Friday evening (4/15/11) and all day and into the evening Saturday (4/16/11). YEW kicks things off Friday evening at 8 pm eastern time with the Town of Yew's annual "Festival of the Grape Harvest". To capitalize on Yew's rustic setting, many events and contests will be geared towards craftsmen and woodworkers*. But there will be activities for non-trades types as well. The marksmanship competitions will cater to both archers and blade throwers. There will also be an open air market in the town square open to any merchants who wish to hawk their wares or services. While visitors are welcome to spend some time at the Abbey's winery to sample some of the select vintages the monks have to offer, children can be dropped off at Yew's Undead Petting Zoo located to the south. The Undead Petting Zoo is a wonderful learning experience for kids, and a rewarding one for its inhabitants who gleefully rush up to the fence to interact and be fed by the children. *Depending upon the turnout of participants, some events may be adjusted to offer team or partnered competitions. Crafters with both carpentry and tinkering skill are encouraged to participate. Event coordinators will provide all materials required for the crafting events. Saturday, April 16 TWT will follow up with events on Saturday beginning at 1 pm eastern time at Sinful Candie's Vendor Shop. Join us as you can pop in and out throughout the day and into the evening where there will be constant events and games running. Duels, a sexiest legs contest, kissing booth, and more... VIRTUE LAND GAME: Cash prizes and more await you as you play this old fashion board game. Roll the dice and navigate your way around the board trying to avoid poor rolls and pitfalls. Finish first and win. (10k entry fee total matched by the event staff). SEXIEST LEGS CONTEST: How many of you have been recalling or gating when you could have simply walked, or ran? If your answer is "Me", then chances are you might be right for this event. Remember poise and presentation are just as important as a toned and tanned set of stems in this event. There will both a female and male division for this one. Also playoffs and or "favors" offered to the judges will result in disqualification. THE KISSING BOOTH: Never been able to build up enough courage to lay one on that attractive someone? Come with a 5 k check in hand (don't worry its a tax rightoff) as a donation and kiss some of the sweetest lips in Sosaria. There will be both a female and male kissing booth. *Remember to behave in this one* RETRO DUEL: Come and enter an old fashion duel as you wear "retro" outfits and battle it out in the mage or warrior division. All participants must join the Sosarian Empire Event guild for this one. You wil be asked to display your title, as it will be your "normal guild tag" so that you may propertly represent your loyalties. Rules are very basic in this event with skills being your primary ally. Bags containing regents for mages (no weapons in mage division" and a bag containing armor/bandaids/weapon for warriors. We ask that mages wear clothing (be it Event Staff issued or your own). Warriors must wear and use the items given to them in the bag issued. Nothing covering the hands is allowed in this event. TINKER BOX GAME: Come try your luck as you open a tinkered box and attempt to win a prize of worth....or something perhaps of "lesser value". This is all in good fun, but there will also be prizes of varying worth handed out during the weekend so don't miss out. Submitted by: Draken-Korin of TWT Corinthain of YEW A Sosarian Empire Alliance To easily find your way to the Festival, there will be gates provided from Luna & New Haven Bank and a runebook will be locked down on the steps of Goodman's Library in Makuto. |

Magincia Declared Independent!
| Posted on Monday, April 4, 2011, 1:33 PM EDT by Joanna Weaver (Atlantic) |
As I sit here, poised with my pen and its dribbled ink, I cannot contain my joy. Even now, I remain amazed that it is finally over. Magincia is free! Allow me to explain and, please, I beg patience, dear reader, for my hand trembles still with the excitement of all that has transpired. My handwriting is in perilous danger of becoming illegible. So I apologize if you end up spending long hours lost in the translation of what may prove to be chicken scratch, instead of my normally well-managed ink-strokes. It has been nearly a week since Virtuebane was driven back into that most foul gate from whence he came. I apologize, also, for waiting so long to impart this triumph. As Administrator of the Republic of Magincia, I have had my hands full with the directing of our city's rebuilding and supply coordination. I am doubly glad to have been mostly prepared with supplies waiting on the mainland. So where was I.. ahh yes.. Virtuebane was driven back... I am still somewhat surprised at the outcome of events. It was not the Sword of Humility, nor even some all-powerful incantation which drove him back through that black portal. His undoing was pie. Humble pie, to be more precise. That thief, Ricardo, had been hawking them at the drawbridge of Castle British for some time prior.. and none of us knew exactly why until then. It was a matter of my regular routine that I happened to be in Magincia that day. I was checking the supplies in our guildhall, located on the isle. I knew the threat of the black rock golems, but I had also grown accustomed to them greeting me as I teleported in. When I arrived, I noted with relief that there were none about. As I hurried into the basilica, I heard a gravelly roar a bit close behind me. Turning about and craning my head back to look up, I was seized with fright. Virtuebane! I thought to myself, must I face him alone? I swallowed my fear and steeled myself for what was to come. This fiend was responsible for the deaths of many Magincians, my parents included. I would not go out without a fight in their honor. “ What do you want?!” I challenged, but the beast simply roared and stared. It was then that I chanced to look beyond the pillars to the beach outside. Words cannot express the shock of seeing a second Virtuebane chasing some poor soul across the sand without. Had I gone mad? Had I actually seen two of them? Quickly, I snapped from my shocked stupor as the demon brought his claws swinging down toward me. I ran out from the hall then, and when I felt myself to be a safe distance away, I summoned my ethereal steed and together we thundered across the battle-scarred plains of Magincia to determine what exactly was taking place. Battle was being waged, and soon I recognized with great relief that my fellows from the Crux Ansata were lending their swords and spells. The strong and familiar voice of Bon Iver was calling across the battlefield, issuing tactical suggestions. I soon found myself falling in and casting my healing magic on the warriors. Together, we managed to defeat some of those beasts. Not before long, we became face to face with the true Virtuebane. His taunting of us gave it away and so we pressed our attack on him across the field. It seemed no matter how hard we hit him, he just would not die. Then Bon Iver was shouting for us to throw pies at him. I admit, I felt a little foolish at first, but as Virtuebane began to react to the pies I knew we had found a special weakness. Virtuebane was being humiliated and it was too much for him to handle. He ran back toward the dark portal, vowing that he would return. Then he was gone, back to where he came from, at last. Our beloved lady knight Danica confirmed that he had gone into the gate. Some of us had found glowing shards of the Crystal of Duplicity, she asked that they be given to her. Once she had enough of them, she used them to close that evil doorway. “ Virtuebane 's portal to our world has been destroyed. Let us hope that is the end of him. It is time for our world to move on,” The lady knight said. “ Virtuebane's portal to our world has been sealed. With him on the OTHER side of it. The island may still have remnants of his forces. They must be dispatched.” She rewarded our valiant efforts with pieces of special armor, though it wasn't necessary. Having my homeland free at last was plenty reward for me. “ Now... For those who wish, we have one more piece of business on Magincia.” As soon as enough people had gathered, she took us to the eastern part of the island. The crystals were buried then, in a box in the soil of our isle, causing an arcane circle to appear. “ Excellent. Magincia now has it's arcane circle. Rebuilding can now begin,” Danica smiled as the cheers went around. It's been a week now, since the day of Magincia's independence. The city has begun rebuilding efforts under the name of New Magincia. Because the supplies had been waiting, we already have an inn, a small tavern, and even a maritime shop. Further inland, you can stroll the sandy paths and view the beginnings of future buildings and shops. A beautiful gazebo graces the isle. Our moongate is restored and functioning properly. People have come from far and wide to plant seeds in the soil to help make the city lovely again. Soon, we shall hold a grand celebration that will last an entire week. It is a time of restoration and, like the Spring, life begins anew. |

ARPC Sponsored "Festival of Britain"
| Posted on Sunday, March 20, 2011, 1:29 PM EDT by Joanna Weaver (Atlantic) |
Hear ye Hear ye! Come join in the festivities!! Have you ever seen these odd people around town, talking and interacting with each other in a strange way? How about been witness to an odd public display of a rally but never quite understood why or what is going on? Well, friend, here is your chance to find out! Come join us on Atlantic for a shard wide celebration!!!!! We, the members of the ARPC, cordially invite you to take part in our first annual "Festival of Britain". The celebration begins at 8:00pm EST, Saturday March 26th with an elaborate parade, complete with "candy" tossing, starting at the fountain in East Britain. A gate will be set up in Luna to bring any and all to the event. From there, the GM's of the various role play guilds will give a brief introduction of themselves and you are then invited to watch a creative play written and performed by one of our own ARPC members while enjoying "goodie" bags that will be handed out. If what you see entices you into trying role play, you can stop at one of the many tables that will be set up by the guilds to answer questions you may have and to assist in any way possible. All you have to decide is whether you want to be a defender of good or a creator of chaos. The ARPC prides itself with its extensive long standing history. We are mature players who enjoy making the most out of this long lasting video game through creative plots and story lines. We have a website to post announcements, vote new guilds in, a senate that is comprised of the GMs with a democratic approach to issues that come up within the community, and an awesome support staff that you can bring any questions or concerns to so that we can help you come up with the most logical and fair solutions. We hope to see you all there! Even if you don't have a character on Atlantic, make one and come see what we are all about. You never know, you may just want to stay. Festivities begin at 8:00pm EST Saturday March 26th at the East Britain Fountain! We hope to see you there! |
