Fanning the Flames

Saturday, January 30, 2010 By EM Pallando

It is not the Town Criers or the whispers of a passerby, but the Royal Guard themselves that spread the word throughout Britain.

On immediate notice, Queen Dawn is calling all able bodied members of the Guard or willing citizens together for the defense of Serpent’s Hold and the safety of its people.

“And may the Virtues guide the defenders when the time comes!” are the final words of the herald as he speaks to the mass of citizens huddled around him.

Event Date: Sunday, January 31st
Event Time: 8:30PM PST, expected to last one hour

Meeting Location: The Broken Arrow Inn, Serpent’s Hold

Castle of Orobas the Prophet Falls to Royal Britannian Guard

January 23, 2010, by Cymidei Fier

At the Skara Brae fairgrounds in Felucca a surly group of murderers, spies and Purity League advocates waited the arrival of the hooded stranger. The message that had brought us together was an incredible opportunity to capture a fabled floating fortress in the lost lands home of Orobas the Goat Prophet. Should the Purity League win on the field of battle the fortress and the power of the Prophet would be ours forever.

Hoof beats sounded on the well trodden muddy pathway that led to the Skara Brae fairground, the hooded stranger debriefed us on the defenses of the fortress. Once within the eldritch walls we began the long ritual to bind Orobas to our will.

Supplies and traps were laid, scouts took their place on the parapets watching for any side of trouble. Outside, the Cartel Faction began patrolling the perimeter of the Castle and soon there was blood to shed. For two long hours the battle between the Purity League and the Royal Britannian Guard raged filling the green meadow with broken bodies

Fortress of Orobas had six corrupted champions, while they lived the doors were sealed with magic so that no mortal could pass. One by one the champions were slain and hundreds of bodies fell by the castle walls. The weak lamented and tried to take shelter in the hills where they were hunted down and slaughtered by the murderous Cartel.

The battle continued until a huge force from Spawner’s Incorporated and their allies hunted down and slew the last guardian. In the moment of the guardian’s death the crimson gates of the fortress vanished and the pathway to Orobas the Prophet was opened.

Orobas was bound inside the ritual pentacle of blood. While the silver braziers burned the Prophet remained bound to us and his fortress firmly anchored to the Lost Lands.

One by one the attackers of the Royal Britannian Guard defiled the sacred braziers causing their magic to crumble into ash. When the ritual circle was broken, Orobas roared and the Fortress faded leaving nothing but a tattered banner behind to show that it had ever been.

Even though our ritual had been spoiled by the gargoyle appeasers, the slaughter continued until the entire plain was filled with bones, blood and the loot of the fallen.

RP NEWS - The Yattering Strikes Back
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 10:12 AM EST by Sara of Baja (Baja)

As reported by Magdelana [QSA] and Ceno to Sara of Baja

The Yattering Strikes Back

While riding through west Britain on the evening of Saturday, January 23, Magdalena [QSA] noticed something over by the Town Guard tower. Upon closer investigation, the observant citizen found 'A Town Guardy Trap' baited with bacon.

Before Magdalena could warn him, Corporal Brackus of the Town Guards, who has a reputation for being unable to resist bacon, fell victim to the diabolical ploy left for the unsuspecting guard by the Yattering ... who most likely left the trap as retaliation for the Yattering trap Town Guards had set a few weeks ago.

Fortunately, the good Corporal received only a minor injury to his hand when he reached for the bacon and triggered the trap:

When last seen, the Corporal was nursing his wounded hand and swearing to avenge the troublesome goblin who has been plaguing the city and terrorizing citizens and the Town Guards for several months now.

Message decoded

Saturday, January 23, 2010
By EM Seppo

Due to the efforts of Lady Sara [TAO] and Lady Proserpina, the encrypted message was decoded. It has revealed the plans of Purity League, but I fear just in nick of time. There is still much to be done, if we are to stop their evil design.

The decrypted message follows (might be difficult to read as it was written in a hurried manner),

Hail, brethrens of the purity league!

We stand at the crux of time. A grand opportunity stares down at us, if we are able to unite to grasp it!

The recent warrant issued against Aldagar Moor should leave us with no doubt that the so-called Queen of Britannia is willing to misuse the power of the throne to crush any opposition against the integration of the Gargish demons. The power wielded by our ideological enemies is great – Make no doubt about that. I am sure that some of you may have wondered who we are to fight the combined forces of royal guards and their allies.

The answer to this lies in a very old Britannian myth. There exists an old folktale about a mythical castle in the lost lands. Many adventurers have gone searching for this castle in the sky, but none have ever found it. I have recently discovered the truth behind this tale with the aid of the scrolls that were looted from Lord Casca’s treasure. One of these scrolls contained in them information of these scrolls about various mythical creatures of Britannia. One particular entry was of great interest to our cause,

Orobas, the goat oracle

Orobas is a strange creature depicting a cross between a horse, a goat, and a man. The truth of his existence is unknown but he is said to have the power to give true answers of what has been, what is, and what will be. He resides in a castle that is said to be protected by being out of sync with our reality, so that none may enter. However, every hundred years it phases into our reality somewhere in the lost lands. It is said that a particularly ambitious lich lord once managed to penetrate the castle when it phased into our reality. With Orobas under his control, the lich lord made the castle his center of power.

Perhaps you are wondering why I am wasting your time with this trivia. Maybe I would garner your attention, if I informed you that Orobas’ castle will phase into our reality this very weekend. Imagine, having a castle outside the reach of our enemies as our headquarters? Not to mention, a mythical oracle under our power. I have all the tools needed to subdue Orobas but I will require your help in case the ceremony is interrupted by Gargoyle appeasers. Meet me behind the stables in Minoc Felucca when the clock strikes four this coming Saturday. Bring along any new recruits that can be trusted.

Since receiving the decrypted message, I have looked into the matter. I am afraid to say that their might be some truth behind this fantastic tale. It is best if some riders were sent out to scout Felucca T2A – we must know the location of this castle, if it exists.

Thief Master

Task for Pro-Gargish faction:

Ride out to T2A Felucca to uncover the location of Orobas’ fortress.

Event notification

Title: Capture the fortress

When: Saturday, 4:30 PM PST (Pro-gargoyle )*,

Saturday, 4:00 PM PST (Purity League)

* Precondition: the location of the fortress must be found in Felucca T2A or purity league wins without a fight

Keep an eye out for more information between now and then on the website.

A Meeting at Nujel'm Palace

This report was handed to me by a hooded figure who wishes to remain anonymous

A Meeting at Nujel'm Palace

Last Saturday evening, a meeting was held at the palace of Nujel'm. Rumor had it, the purpose was to discuss the city states and independent kingdoms throughout the realm, but little else was otherwise known. Sparse information from various people hinted beforehand that the meeting was organized by members of the anti-gargoyle movement, sometimes referred to the Britannian Purity League. This hearsay likely kept many would-be Sosarians from attending, fearing the meeting was yet just another way to incite anti-gargoyle sentiment and doctrine.

A few people, either out of curiosity or with legitimate reasons or concern of their own, appeared at Nujel'm palace and were greeted by Aldagar Morr, Cicero, and a lone member of The Cartel who kept to the shadows. Faces in the crowd included WildStar of Dawn, Nicholas the Old, and several hooded figures who seemed interested in keeping their identities withheld.

Morr began by introducing, Dixie, a pixie from East of the Weald in the lands of Ilshenar. The flighty sprite fluttered and danced about as she told those in attendance about a grave tale relating to the gargoyles.

Dixie addressed the crowd with her squeaky voice, "I hear yew have troubles with garviles. Yew should do something about eeht! My elders tell of a timie when Ilshienar had towns of men. Then the garviles came from the Shrine of Chaos. First they came and kidnappie the littlest fairies for their wings. They roundie up the big fey too, then smashie and put it stew! Ohh noes! It makes me sad to thinkie of it."  Dixie concluded by telling everyone, "The garviles took their gold and some still live in the underhalls. Hundredsie years later Lord Blackthorne put garviles in chains. Which is where the no-good stinky, garviles belong! The Fey say never trust a garvile so wicked and vile! Now the garviles will killie yew too unless you getsies them first!"

Afterwards, Aldagar Morr offered a cloth to anyone needing to wipe away any tears that streaked down their face, however, no one accepted his offer and no one appeared taken by the pixie's story. One anonymous person in attendance commented about making a pixie stew or stealing its wings for the use of a spell. Not in the least bit deterred, Aldagar Morr addressed the crowd once more, resulting in several groans and exasperated looks.

After a rather long-winded diatribe about how he was supposedly bedridden for weeks, having been ill, and even recently ambushed by several gargoyle assassins outside his estate, he eventually got to the bigger point.

He continued, "But I digress. We did not call this meeting to detail the heinous and cowardly attack of the gargoyles, but instead to speak of matters concerning all independent Kingdoms. As I look into the crowd before me, I see faces that once opposed our former King, Lord Casca. Some of you were unyielding in your belief that Lord Casca overstepped his authority by requesting all independent Kingdoms seek approval for their sovereignty. You balked, and even chastised him, for his meddling into your private affairs. You shouted, from the four corners of the world, that political oppression was tyranny! You believed then, your very freedom threatened and sovereignty of your lands at risk. If, under Lord Casca, you believed it true, you must, under Queen Dawn, believe it so now! It has become rather apparent that, political dissidence is not allowed under this Regime. The Queen has unjustly targeted Ravenshire because she fears opposition voices to her rule. This tyranny and violation of basic human rights and freedoms should not be tolerated!

So, before you quickly dismiss my pleas of concern as poppycock or balderdash, I ask you ... What if it were Your lands were being persecuted and subjected to illegal searches? I say this here and now, if you once stood against Lord Casca and his supposed ill-gotten use of autocratic powers, then you Must now stand against Queen Dawn and her unjust tyranny. We must be strong. We must persevere and hold fast. We must unite together. If we do not, and we let injustice happen in Ravenshire, then we will be no better off under the iron-first rule of Queen Dawn as many of you claim it was under Lord Casca. Our one hope lies in resisting the tyranny of the Crown, and standing up for our rights!! Now then. Who among you is with us?"

Morr paused at the end of his nauseating speech, as if expecting the crowd to erupt in cheers and support but was greeted by only the sound of silence. It wasn't long afterwards when all decorum and civility was lost and shouts and insults were flung by both groups, those in favor of living peacefully with the gargoyles, and those in against any gargoyle adaptation into Britannia society.

In the end, neither faction swayed others of the opposite side to their viewpoint, and several people stormed out from the palace in anger and disbelief. It seems each side is holding true to the beliefs and will not be deterred easily. Which side does your guild stand with? Are you pro-gargoyle, anti-gargoyle, or still on the fence?  Have you changed your mind on where you stand? You can register your guild or change your stance with the Event Moderators Seppo and Pallando,  at http://goldenbrewtavern.com.

Declaration of stolen items
Thursday, January 14, 2010
By Elias Ashmole

Hail, good citizens of Britannia,

Upon hearing about the news of the looting of Casca’s secret horde, the officials in charge of the royal treasury performed a thorough investigation. A series of cross checks were made and old records scrutinized.

While it may be that we never discover for certain all the items that Casca plundered, we have been able to compile a list of items likely to have been looted in the raid (besides the gold). A list is provided at bottom of this scroll. If you happen to know the whereabouts of these items, please report it to the proper authorities right away.

1) A shield forged from pure mana and flame
2) Scrolls pertaining to mysterious creatures of Britannia
3) Scrolls pertaining to the legal status of Britannian merchant guilds
4) An intricately carved horn of summoning
5) An antique diamond bracelet marked by a strange signet
6) Arrows crafted from phoenix feathers
7) An intricately carved marble dagger

Vicious Gargoyle Attacks Prompt Retribution
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Monday, January 11, 2010, 9:35 PM EST by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
It appears that the gargoyles have begun to react violently to the Movement to send the gargoyles back to Ter Mur! Aldagar Morr was recently attacked at his manor in Ravenshire by a pair of gargoyle assassins. The two gargoyles circled the mansion, demanding that Aldagar surrender to them and meet their demands.

When Aldagar refused to give the gargoyles tribute and allow himself to be taken prisoner, they attacked with magic. Movement supporters came to help drive the attackers away from Morr Manor before the gargoyles could drag Aldagar Morr off.

Following the attack on Morr Manor, gargoyles disrupted Market Night in Britain by attacking young Billy Scrantin and stealing goods from the merchants.

Billy Scrantin a boy who sells fruits and vegetables was attacked by a gargoyle thief with little provocation. A gargoyle mingled with the crowd at Market night and watched the merchants closely, when it had an opportunity to do so, the gargoyle thief stole items from one of the vendors.

“Step up and admire the finest produce you've ever laid eyes upon. Apples and nanas and pears and peaches and grapes!” Said Billy.

“To think wingless barbarians fit only for slavery can't own property, I take.” The gargoyle thief muttered as it stole Billy’s produce and Joe’s recipes.

“Hey you…no sticky claws!” Said Joe.

“Uh-huh! I saw it.” Billy said reaching for the gargoyle’s wings to touch them.

“To say, wingless back away or kill. No touch Wings!” The gargoyle hissed at Billy, backing away with the stolen goods in its claws.

“But they are purty pretty.” Billy said.

The infuriated gargoyle slapped Billy and kicked him, then attacked him with spells. Billy started to cry and struggled to escape the gargoyle.

Aleiyos and Ayassa came to Billy’s defense, trying to tackle the gargoyle and heal Billy. The gargoyle went berserk and chased Billy all around Britain, until Billy’s rescuers were able to save him. “Somebody kill the blasted thing! Aleiyos yelled as he crouched on the ground with his teeth bared and his ears down. As Ayassa lead Billy to safety the gargoyle watched in disbelief.

“To say why you stop me? Wingless slave hit first!”

The Movement urges the independent kingdoms and anyone with an interest of dealing with the escalating gargoyle threat to come to a meeting on January 16, 2009 at 6:00 pm PST at the Nujelm Palace in Trammel.

If the gargoyles are not deterred they will become even more bold. No one is safe, not even children! It’s time to keep Britannia clean and send the gargoyles packing, come to the meeting and learn more about the Movement!

The meeting is not an EM Event!

Attention Archers! December BSR Results, January Schedule
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, January 10, 2010, 6:52 PM EST by Sara of Baja (Baja)

submitted by someone who wishes to remain anonymous

The Best Shot in the Realm (BSR), Baja's free archery contest, and a staple on the shard for many years had its season-ending contest on Saturday, December 12th, 2009. Toni Fierce, GM of Misfits of Society, the sponsor of the 2009 BSR, gathered 20 plus archers at the Skara Brae fairgrounds for the last seat and the last chance to be titled a monthly winner and an automatic entry into the Champions of Champions shoot-off.

The Champion of Champions shoot-off and the title of BAJA’S greatest archer of 2009 will be held on January 16, 2010 with a winner’s prize of 10-million gold was the goal of over 250 archers this year vying for exclusive monthly seats and automatic entry into this event.

Tensions were higher then usual for the 24 archers assembled this Saturday night with the title "December's Best Archer", one million in gold at stake, and an engraved bow marking the event.

But for many this event was their last chance for the automatic bid to contend for the Grand Champion of 2009. Many of those assembled were near-winners during this past year with maybe just one errant shot, one misaligned arrow feather, or one gust on mistimed wind keeping them from joining an elusive extraordinary group of archers.

Sign-ups were held and Toni Fierce congratulated all those present and thanked all her assistants necessary to run this monthly event, members of the Misfits of Society Guild, one of Baja's oldest and most active guilds. For this night’s event, food and spirits were provided, by someone not known to but those who provided the spirits, hot rum from a few bottles of The Admirals Hearty Rum calmed many nerves on this chilly eve.

The 1st round began and Jonah was perfect with 3 bulls-eyes and sat down, but Aftermath came up short quickly and was the night’s 1st one out and received the consolation prize of 50k in gold. Three other archers failed in this round with Fyiera Fyre, a M!S member, just missing the mark with a 62. Lil Debi posted the night’s 1st Robin hood (RH) and the round ended. But perhaps the round didn't end? Usually the entry list is closed when the 1st round ends but in the spirit of the holidays and with Christmas Spirit in her heart Toni held the event at bay while one latecomer announced he was on his way. As the minutes clicked away, how long would this crowd wait before rumblings would force the event to continue, but luckily Fyiera Fyre entertained the crowd with a festive dance and then Wrath and Tsukiko showed. Wrath quickly posted a 200 and the 2nd round began.

On a side note, Nicholas the Old was spotted briefly at the stable area but soon left. Hmmn. Maybe he was just running to the provisioner for the "loaf of bread", but I don't believe there is a provisioner at the Fairgrounds. Fern was not seen. Good Luck, NICK.

The 2nd round began and Lance, Chango, and Isabella posted robin-hoods (RHs) although we saw the surprise exit of Lil Debi, a 1st round RH shooter, Bucko, a crowd favorite since his finish of 2nd just a few months ago and a few others, but 16 shooters were still in the hunt.

The 3rd round where 150 points and only perfection would move you to the next round found Lance shooting his 2nd in a row 200 (would he be the one?) and Maleki shooting a RH (warming up?). Seven more shooters fell aside with Vengeance shooting 2 shots before his bow broke and he sat down in frustration.

This brought us to the 4th round, usually the champion round if you could just shoot that elusive RH with 2 other bulls-eyes and score 200 but this year’s event would not end as Lance, Devin, Tazz, and Aeowyn were perfect but just couldn't split that arrow!!

A five-shot shoot-off, one at a time, was announced by Toni with the highest score earning the crown and tensions soared. Lance had what was probably his worst round of the night with a score of 200 while Devin, a member of M!S shot a 260!! A robin hood and an inner ring shot the LEADER, Tazz, a 170. Aeowyn was GONE!! Where was Aeowyn? To have come this close, this far? Toni called and called but, alas, he was nowhere to be found.

Maleki, a M!S faction member was next up and shot a 300 with four bulls-eyes and a RH. Tsukiko was next up and finished the night with a score of 250.

Congratulations to Maleki, the 2nd M!S member to earn a seat in the champions shoot-off. He was awarded the last seat of the monthly winners, a unique engraved bow and the one million gold prize.

We will start the year over with the January shoot-off for 2010 on Saturday, January 30th at 8:30 p.m. Pacific (9:30 Mountain, 10:30 Central, 11:30 Eastern). M!S invites all archers and citizens of the land to come and compete, or to cheer-on the competitors!
