Festival/Bazaar requires participation
Wednesday, November 4, 2009
By EMSeppo

Hello Baja,

We need more people to sign up for stalls and other planned activities for the Fall bazaar. We cannot have a bazaar with 4-5 people participating. That would be more of a circus.

The stall signups are especially woeful. Every single day I witness players spending hours spamming their wares at Luna bank in front of a crowd consisting of largely AFK players. Why not try your luck at the bazaar for one day in several months instead? Not just for selling your wares, the potential is almost limitless as to what you can do and achieve. However, very little of it is possible without active participation from the community.

Consider this as a challenge to expand your horizons, look past all the unnecessary labels (Tram, Felucca, PvM, PvP, RP), and play the game in its true spirit for at least a few hours. I am looking forward to a rush of sign ups from you and your friends in the coming days.

Trubo’s Nightmare: Prophet and Prophecy
Saturday, October 31, 2009
By EMPallando

His mind awash in dark dreams, Trubo tossed and turned in his sleep, threatening to undo the bandages that covered much of his battered body.

Trubo’s face winced in mental stress as images come rushing through. Flashes and images, barely discernible, a collection of memories pooling and taking shape then dissolving just as quickly into the wreckage of his mind.

His nightmares settling at last, the images begin to slow and play out, returning to a time when the first dark seed was sewn.

——

Prophet and Prophecy

It has been a day of strife. A mixture of dirt and dry blood crusts over my hands and face. I enter my Lord’s chamber with urgency. Blackthorn does not acknowledge me at first, seated with his face buried in the pages of a massive tome that I do not recognize. I wait patiently at attention. A few moments pass.

Blackthorn finally looks up, and it is now that I notice the lines of fatigue and stress that surround his bloodshot eyes. Running a hand through his disheveled hair, Blackthorn speaks hoarsely to me:

“What news, Disciple Saius?”

His voice is resigned, almost dismissive. A pang of fear and worry shudders through me. I do not display emotion as I report though.

“British is fled, along with a majority of his followers. What remains of our forces are in full retreat and our hold on Trinsic and Minoc is tenuous at best. Disciple Zykos is dead, ambushed along with his guard on the road to Vesper. Disciple Calathar and his garrison have been expelled from Magincia by its ruling council for reasons unknown. I have ordered him to report to myself or Tyrius by the safest route. Also–

Blackthorn stands. I am unsure whether to go on. He walks casually over to the closest bookshelf, quickly selecting another tome and thumbing through its pages. I feel I should remain silent. His back to me, Blackthorn speaks again.

“What of Disciple Ravenia, has she been found?”

“No my Lord. Though we have received several sightings of her supposedly alongside the enemy, I place little trust in these reports.”

Blackthorn returns to his seat as I speak, his gaze not once meeting my own. Continuing to sound off what I have learned, my voice eventually trails off into nothing as the writing etched onto the pages my lord is preoccupied with absorb me as well. My eyes begin to ache the longer I look upon the these runes and arcane symbols that are foreign to me, but I can not turn away. A feeling of dread and wrong creeps into me.

A seemingly silent eternity of awe, fear and wonder pass and I am startled only by the touch of Blackthorn’s hand on my shoulder. Standing an arm’s length away, he speaks reassuringly to me.

“Steel yourself my old friend. For the weak there is only death and only darkness within these pages. But for the strong and the willing there is knowledge and power eternal, both ancient and untouched.”

Turning from me, Blackthorn closes the tomes. I sigh a sense of relief.
“And for us, Disciple Saius, it is the key to our salvation and perhaps, handled correctly, the path to a new and glorious age.”

Despite the pit of dark foreboding that forms in my mind, I find myself smiling.

While most travelers to the lost lands shrug it off as an old ranger’s myth, the few brave adventurers who have dared to enter the City of Dead on Hallow’s eve would tell you that the place reeks of more wrong than its usual.

Even fewer, however, have seen and lived to tell about the terror that awaits within the walls of the fort that lies within the city. For it is within these walls, the terrifying spirit of Orc Shadow Chieftains is said to roam on this day of the dead.

The only thing more mysterious than the spirits is perhaps their history; some say that long before the dead infested these city, even before the savages took hold of the fort, the city of the dead might have been an orc outpost. A terrible fate must have then doomed these orcs for these spirits continue to roam the city to these day on Hallow’s eve, exacting revenge on all who trespass into their lost territory.

Yet, it is also rumored that great rewards await the ones who might slay these spirits, if such a thing were to be possible. So, each Hallow’s eve seekers of thrill and treasure travel to this old outpost of the orcs. Most come back with only long tales of their near-death experience fighting the spirit, but few will come face to face with the the chieftains. None have returned with even a single trinket that made them any richer though.

So, this Hallow’s eve will you dare to venture into the old lands, fending off others like you who might rather slit your throat than share the treasure, to seek out the truth of this matter and perhaps, slay a chieftain or two?

Event Announcement

Where: Delucian Orc Fort, located in the City of the Dead

Facet: Felucca Only

How: The chieftains are rumored to show only when the fort is occupied by no less than 5 people.

When: The strongest chance of summoning the chieftains is between 8-11 AM, 2-5 PM, 9-12 PM (PST) – but beware, the spirits do not always heed to the mortals. October 31st.

Statutory warning: This event is in Felucca, which means that you are likely to be subjected to player versus player combat. PvP is not only allowed, but encouraged.

Additional notes: To make things slightly more interesting, a lantern “Spirit Detector” has been placed at the Yew Felucca moongate. The lantern may turn red for 15 minutes right after the chieftain comes into play. But as is the case with devices, you cannot expect them to always function properly. Also, keep in mind, that the chieftain will not come out till no less than 5 people occupy the fort.

Guild Registration

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Guild Registration
By EMSeppo

We would like to invite all guild leaders to register your guild with us. Pertaining to this, we require following information,

1) Guild Name and Abbreviation.

2) Guild Leader/Representative.

3) Guild Size (approximate active individual players).

4) Guild house (XYZ Coordinates/Facet).

5) Guild Alignment: Good, Evil, or Neutral.

6) Outlook towards Gargoyles: Friendly, Curious, Irked, Hostile.

7) What is prime time for your guild generally?

Please, note that some of this information is what one might consider role playing in nature. However, it is simple enough for any guild, RP/PvP/PvM, to come up with a suitable response. Please put some thought into it and reach a consensus amongst yourself before registering.

Notes:

1) Please use the Feedback Option, if you want the information you supply to remain confidential.

2) If you are not currently in a guild, then you are always welcome to make one up and register.

3) There is no specific registration deadline at this moment. However, as they say, early bird catches the… donut?

4) Pick a guild house if you do not have one already.

5) Question six is rather important and we will appreciate if guilds that pick hostile, act accordingly. This means, for example, that you should not attend any relevant event on a gargoyle that belongs to a guild registered as hostile towards gargoyles. Obviously, we don’t expect you to shun gargoyles completely but merely to play the part when necessary.

6) Questions 5 and 6 are independent. You can have an evil guild that is friendly towards gargoyles or conversely, a good guild that is hostile towards gargoyles.

7) It is always useful if you let us know your guild leader/representative’s alternate character names. This makes it easy to contact you if required. This is merely a suggestion.

Town Guards Complete Second Recruitment Test

>>> Malas News <<<Town Guard Recruits Promoted
By WarderDragon

On Saturday, October 17th, Her Majesty Queen Regnant Dawn of Britannia ordered that a second round of Standard Recruitment Tests (or S.R.Ts) be administered to determine who might be eligable to become a ranking member of the Town Guard Brigade in New Britain. As you may remember, the Town Guards were established by the recently deceased Captain Commander Aino Nystad, who had created the military unit to protect the Capitol and its Citizens from Orcs, Red Caps, Minor Demons, and other outsiders who would threaten Britannian Sovereignty and Peace.

When I arrived, Sir Robert the Ranger was introducing himself to Corporal Brackus and the five recruits who had arrived to take that afternoons evaluation.

He explained that he was chosen to evaluate the Guards, but would be relying on Corporal Brackus' help to administer the test and determine the results. He also expressed his condolences to the recruits for the loss of their Captain Commander.

The Guards then proceeded with their test.

Brackus tested his recruits on a number of practiced drills, including the building of fortifications and the parade march.

Robert then asked to see how they might perform an arrest. With a smirk, Brackus ordered the Town Guards to arrest Recruit Yalp. They quickly disarmed his spellbook, surrounded, and restrained him.

The Bucket Brigade Drill required that the Town Guards race from one end of the arena to the other, in full armor, carrying buckets of water to extinguish a magically conjured flame.

When the drills were complete, Robert announced that they would be visiting the Royal Guard Beastmaster to test themselves on teamwork in actual combat. When they arrived, plenty of taunting was exchanged between the woman (whom Brackus later mistook for a man) and the Recruits.

After defeating two strange green lizards, a diseased ratman, a terethan matriarch, and a bronze dragon, Robert announced that he believed all recruits were ready and that they would all be promoted to the rank of Town Guard.

Congradulations Leithia, Yalp, Calyndrell, Ariane Du Bris, and Alfred for their successful completion of the Recruitment Tests.

From the Golden Brew Tavern
By EM Seppo

“Grief makes one hour ten”

She waited silently next to him, as he stared blankly at the meticulously carved snow eagle perched on a pedestal that seemed to take an odd shine under the glare of the sun.

“It is nice, Your Majesty,” he finally commented in an awkward manner.

Despite the politeness of his words, she felt the depth of the anger within him. It was then clear to her that, left to his own device, soon he will lash out in a fury blind to the difference between a friend or a foe. She would not vainly attempt to douse it, but she could try to give it a direction and boundaries. So, with a hesitant resolve, she said,

“We know his location now.”

She watched as his hand swiftly reached for the hilt of his sword.

“And, I wish for you to lead our efforts to capture him”.. She pitched her voice with an edge of a royal command as she finished her sentence .. “Alive.”

Just then, somewhere outside the walls, a town guard bellowed out a routine call while doing his rounds – serving a grim reminder of the recent events.

Trubo Captured In Bloody Exodus Brawl
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 10:53 AM EDT by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
The crowd pressed into the throne room eagerly awaiting the arrival of Queen Dawn. Rumors circulated through the throne room about Lord Trubo Saius and the discovery of his hiding place and his involvement in the assassination of Lady Aino Nystad and the killing at Lord Blackthorn’s Castle. After a few moments, Queen Dawn entered the throne room and addressed us all.

“My friends, my fellow warriors I will be brief. Let me first commend and recognize those that aided my agents in their investigation. It is due to your cleverness and determination that we stand here today, ready to strike. Some have questioned me of what is to be done about the ex-disciple Zephera.

For now, stay away. So long as she is content to remain in her corner. Some suggested she still posed some kind of danger. Reports written to me said that Trubo, curse his name, had visited her. I will say again as I have said before.

Should you find and confront Trubo Saius. Bring him alive, if at all possible. For greater things may be at work, and I believe there is still something we may learn. Yes, alive, and coherent. No doubt the whisperings and rumors have made their rounds and I can say, Kullervo Nystad will be leading you to confront Saius.

Despite the death of his only sibling, Kullervo has remained calm and vigilant. In this errand, he has my confidence as I hope he has yours as well. Before I let you go let me say this. In each of you I do not doubt your abilities or your resourcefulness and by the same token, I have no illusion of Trubo Saius as well. I do not underestimate what he may bring against us. So in what you do the sacred virtues must guide you.”

We met Kullervo at the West Britain Bank and many noticed that he was wearing a bright new pair of Air Urlik running shoes. For those of you who don’t know Urlik Fangborn of the Town Guard made Sollerets of Sacrifice the most fashionable shoes in Britannia by wearing them on his official patrols!

Next we set out for the Exodus Dungeon in Ilshenar to confront Trubo Saius in his base. Just outside of the Exodus Dungeon we faced stiff resistance from legions of dangerous Nether Daemons, Upgraded Golems and Modified Clockworks and Slavers.

After a long struggle we were able to drive off Trubo’s minions and gain entry into the Exodus Dungeon. Our fight against Trubo Saius’ army intensified once we were inside and we pressed relentlessly into the final room where Lord Trubo awaited us.

Lord Saius hovered overhead just out of reach as he taunted us with bold words, including a vile comment about Queen Dawn. “Let us raise this land anew! The master‘s memory speaks to me. Serve the master! Serve his memory! Better yet flee for your lives. It's far more satisfying to kill cowards. Such devotion and strength could be of use! Very well if you will not bow…"

In reaction to Lord Trubo’s insults someone in the crowd remarked. “Look who is standing up there out of reach.” We were all ready to engage Trubo and put a stop to his madness. Kullervo and Trubo exchanged a few more taunts and then Trubo descended into the crowd.

For a few moments, it seemed that Trubo was free of the entity that possessed him and acting under his own will. Lord Trubo’s terrible powers left most of us slaughtered on the dungeon floor which was slick with blood. Lord Trubo unleashed volleys of lightning and hurled globes of water at everyone in the room.

I tried to stand at a distance from Lord Trubo and shoot him at a long range but it was to no avail! Soon I was dead and most of the party was dead also. Trubo’s life was slowly ebbing away when Kullervo struck Trubo with a powerful blow and knocked him out cold!

Lady Halo In Reverse reportedly stole Lord Trubo Saius’ old worn robe, when he was knocked out. Trubo was taken back to the Castle’s throne room and Kullervo told us that he would be kept prisoner by the Queen’s sentries. Lord Trubo hissed that “this is not over yet” as he was lead away.

Attention Archers! September BSR Results, October Schedule
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 10:08 AM EDT by Sara of Baja (Baja)

With the August report-eating Cu Sidhe safely fed and stabled, Toni Fierce, GM of Misfits of Society Guild, welcomed 23 archers to September's Best Shot in The Realm.

The BSR is a free archery contest -- A fabled event, held monthly at the Skara Brae Faire Grounds (a historical gathering place for many Baja events), and is sponsored by M!S.

This talented group of 22 archers and one, we think, fencer were competing for the 1-million gold prize, a unique engraved bow, the title of monthly winner and an exclusive seat in the year's end Champion of Champions shoot off.

The 1st round began as usual with 22 archers merely taking practice shots and one person scoring a “12 “ to receive the 50,000 First Out consolation check. When a competitor asked Toni if that was a record, she replied,  “NO! There once was a shooter who shot a 7.”

The 2nd round only found Richard Lionhart falling aside, and 21 competitors moved to Round 3.

The 3rd round, where only 3 perfect bulls eyes will move you closer to the title of monthly winner, found 15 archers left in the hunt and the crowd wondering just who would shoot a robin hood (RH) to score 200 in Round 4 and lay claim to Baja's best archer.

Would it be -- Jonah, 8 bull's-eyes and a RH ? Moo Goo Gai Pan, 9 bull's-eyes? Dirnim, 9 bull's-eyes ? McThugger, 7 bull's-eyes and a rare double RH in Round 3? Or maybe these shooters who already posted RHs in earlier rounds: Chango, Claudia Drussila, Newt Longbow, Cherokee, Lil Debi, llama, Maleki ... or maybe one of the others??

The last round with the crowd cheering, each archer taking his or her time, and all wishing each other “Good Luck” ended with none of the previous odds-on-favorites shooting the event-ending 200 . Who stepped up and won? None other then Sean Brega, this year's 1st double winner! Then it was noticed not only did this repeat winner prove he will surely contend in the season's finale, but he did it with a store bought bow!!

Toni Fierce congratulated all the shooters then presented Sean with his 2nd engraved winner's bow and a million-gold check, which he again donated back to the prize fund.

(Sara's Note: Thank you to Lil Debi for the screenshots, and Toni Fierce and her 'crew' for the score sheet and report as I could not attend the September BSR.)

Everyone is invited to October's Best Shot In The Realm, which will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 8:30pm Pacific (9:30pm Mountain, 10:30pm Central, 11:30pm Eastern).

2009 BSR Monthly Winners To Date:

The words are on the lips of every town crier and the whisperings of every citizen, soldier, and rambling drunk that you encounter fill your ears. Though it is finally Yosh the guard that speaks plainly to you:

He lets out a laugh as you question him.

My friend! Have you not heard?” he asks, clapping you on the shoulder.

“The reports confirm the hideout of that snake, Trubo Saius! The Queen has ordered the immediate gathering of all able bodied citizens and soldiers who wish to aid in confronting that beast! Now finally he will be brought to justice!”

Meeting place: Castle British, Trammel

By EMSeppo

Look out for a Halloween themed festival this month (or first week of November, sorry!). More details in the coming days. Yes, there will be a House Decoration Contest to boot. So, you may start planning before an official announcement, if you wish.

For anyone wishing to be a friendly ghost at the festivities, please first refer to this thread, especially point 1. It is fairly straight-forward and to the point

A Fracas in the Streets of Britain!

This report comes from Xanthe the Minter of the West Bank of Britain….

I saw it with my own eyes. A foul creature as if from the spawn of the Abyss itself. Small and feeble in size, but with a tenacious and forceful will, seemingly obsessed with creating havoc and mayhem in the streets. It moved with incredible speed, and those who attempted to engage it in combat were left swinging their weapons foolishly at mere thin air! I heard several citizens and town guards refer to the creature as, “The Yattering”, whatever that may be? Nevertheless, it was unwavering in its relentless assault.

I heard cries of pain from several citizens as The Yattering sunk his sharp jagged teeth into the knees of several unsuspecting passersby. While peaking through the windows of the bank, I witnessed a young boy who complained about his fruit market stand being upturned. I heard screeching coming from an elf’s tamed battle chickens as The Yattering darted this way, and then that way, confusing his pursuers at every turn.

A short time later, I even heard cries inside the bank itself when The Yattering burst through the doors, tripping Gargan and toppling him over a nearby chair sending him sprawling. The Yattering continued knocking over tables and throwing deposit ledgers and important documents everywhere, even tearing some to shreds!

Next, it savagely pulled a beautiful painting down from the wall, smashing it over someone’ head, all the while emitting a chilling scream, hissing with overt venom at anyone, and everything, in its path. Later that evening while visiting the Cat’s Lair tavern for a nightcap and pint of ale, I inquired with Jeremy the Barkeep as to what he knew of the background of The Yattering, if anything at all.

His face contorted into something unpleasant as he groaned noticeably. He explained to me what he recalled from stories previously told by his patrons. “The Yattering is a haunt, or poltergeist, you might even say…

A complete nuisance and pest to the unfortunate people it chooses to target. Be ever wary of The Yattering and its cunning nature”, he spoke with a hardened look upon his face. How The Yattering can be forever banished back into the Abyss, he couldn’t even begin to fathom and quickly steered the conversation in another direction by offering me a second pint of ale, free of charge.
