Shard-Wide Meeting with EMs and UO Developer Mesanna

On Sunday, November 22nd, at 7 p.m. EST, the EMs of Catskills, alongside UO Dev Mesanna, will participate in a shard-wide meeting at the Catskills Fairgrounds stage. (This can be found in the western corner of the fairgrounds – which can, in turn, be located by entering the golden gate at the Brit Counselor’s Hall.) All are welcome to discuss any topics they wish, ranging from player towns (and a teleportation system that will be proposed by the EMs) to events, to the needs of Catskillians, to ongoing storylines, and anything in between. Anyone with questions or comments will be given time to speak, with all listeners respectfully waiting their turn or holding comments/questions until the appropriate time. If you have a topic you wish to discuss, please come prepared to do so, so that we might make the entire process smooth and efficient. Thank you, and see you at the fairgrounds.

PGoH Sponsored Public Harrower December 12

Hello Everyone! I'm Katherine Elle, Senator of Inquiry of PGoH, and you may have met many of us during our recent Honordayz Festival! I'm a bit of a trader myself, and I've managed to secure a set of champion skulls that have just been collecting dust. So it's time to pass the glory on to the shard! A public harrower will be run the night of Saturday December 12th, With a meet up time of 7:15 PM EST and a skull drop shortly after that. Everyone is invited to join us, and I've spoken with many of those who frequent the old lands of Felucca who support this public harrower. We invite you all to attend, and please post here if you have any questions or concerns about it. You may also contact me via my icq, listed in my profile! A big thank you to all those I've spoken with who have offered cooperation and support! Wanted: Your News!

Hello Catskills, You may be wondering, as I have, why there has been very, very little news posted for our shard. Also, why has somebody from Baja been putting up announcements? Well... Sara of Baja has been nice enough to put up announcements for us while the Catskills news team has been slacking off some. Unfortunately, the reporters of Catskills may still not be able to get out there and write up our own reports on events... but we will be working to make sure we get any announcements and reports submitted to us posted. Unfortunately... the last time a news submission was received by the UO Catskills team was May 21! So this is where you all need to help us - send in your announcements and reports to uocatskills@stratics.com As soon as they're received, it will either be posted as news or one of the Catskills reporters will let you know why it can't be posted. We'd love to have some nice, detailed reports come in about the EM events that Kasaven and Cernunnos have been giving us, as well as reports from community events like Hawkeye's Boat Races, or The Alliance's hunts. Catskills has always had a very rich community, and still does. Let's get news about it out there so we can attract more people, and make the other shards jealous! Friday, November 6th at 9 p.m. EST  by Kasaven Owain leaned his elbows on the old stone table and sighed heavily as if he had expelled weeks of disappointment in a single breath. He looked up from the journal to try to draw inspiration from his surroundings – the spilled potions and discarded herbs scattered about screamed their impotencies at him. Bones sat in an almost too orderly pile in the corner, covered in a tattered blue magician’s robe. The old mage, the plague. Few remembered Benedict’s laboratory, hidden by magical means in the lost lands, which is why Owain chose to take refuge here in his studies. He had sat weeks without food, and his supply of water had grown scarce. He opened his palm to reveal three red crystal fragments, and he carefully maneuvered them about his hand with his index finger, thinking, searching. The gem had been destroyed, killing the Shadow Lords and Casca, but the shards were still intact. They were the only devices which could lead Lady Dawn and Lord Owain to Robert – if he were still alive. Yet Owain saw an even greater opportunity in the shards. They held a more potent power, even in their scattered forms. The power of resurrection. The shards began to glow and levitate above his outstretched hand and he closed his eyes to meditate. His mind flowed to his vision of Relvinian, the ancient mage, the undead with an army of demons at the hedge maze, and a sharp pang of wrong penetrated his senses. His eyes shot open as he quickly tightened his grasp upon the crystals. The door behind him burst with such force that it struck Owain squarely in the back, sending him flying into the wall as the three crystal fragments flew from his clutch to scatter alongside broken glass and discarded notes about the laboratory floor. A large, black demon burst through the doorway, collapsing the stone doorframe with her wings, sending rocks projecting about the room. Owain looked on with a face as grim as death as he recognized the demon. Ix Tab who had Invaded Aegis. Her being emanated wrong and it made Owain want to wretch alongside the crusted remnants of potions on the floor. He pushed himself up and pulled his red, blazing sword from its scabbard as his eyes darted about the floor for the scattered crystal fragments. In a shrieking voice, Ix Tab raised her muscled arm to the air and spoke dark words that forced Owain to drop his sword and clutch his ears. A dozen ethereal demons appeared surrounding Owain, they grabbed his arms and legs and pulled, as if they were a rack destined to tear him to pieces one limb at a time. The dark demon pointed a finger to the ground and levitated each crystal to her hand as Owain looked on, helpless – the tendons in his arms began to rend and tear. He screamed, powerless to stop Ix Tab. He could only escape. He began to glow an azure light and the demons holding his limbs recoiled as their unworldly flesh burned and seared. He yelled quick words of recall and disappeared in an instant. Kasaven and Cernunnos sat in the Counselor’s hall around the fire playing a round of Run. Kasaven flipped a card on the table and grinned, “It looks like you owe me another Ale!” Cernunnos discarded the comment and quickly stood up from his chair, feeling something amiss. The hall exploded in a flash of white as Owain appeared and immediately collapsed upon the floor, bloodied and pale. The emissaries’, eyes wide, rushed to his side. He only uttered two words before losing consciousness. “Fragments….Hedgemaze…” Meet at the Counselor’s Hall on Friday, November 6th at 9 p.m. EST. The need is dire.

Are You Up To The Challenge? United Pirates Boat Race November 7

Boat Speed Race Saturday November 7th, 6pm EST by Hawkeye Pike  The United Pirates invite you to participate in a speed race by boat. We meet at 6pm EST sharp at the Jolly Roger Inn. Bring your own vessel! The rules are simple: All participants line up their boats in a row on a certain coastline. On a given signal, the boats all depart at the same time and sail in a straight line until they reach the next shore. The bows of their vessels have to touch the shore. Then they turn their boats around and sail back in a straight line. The course is outlined with lanterns, so nobody gets lost. The participants are encouraged to outmaneuver their rivals within the borders of the course. Beware of possible obstacles on the course! The first captain to return to the starting line wins the prize.  __________________

Merchants wanted for the Black Market on November 7th!

A note from Hawkeye Pike: On November 7th at 8pm EST, we will hold our monthly Black Market. All merchants who have good wares to offer for a fair price, are welcome to claim a market stand by entering the list of their products into the book locked down on their market stand (at least one day prior to the event, so people can come by and check on the items). We already have a number of interesting items on the list, like all 70s suits, fallen log, armor engraving tool, and many many more. Halloween Story Contest, Thursday, October 29

For the month of October, we return to thoughts of scary tales and mysterious hauntings. Come sit down by the campfire next to the Catskills Reward Hall (accessible through the vortex next to the West Britain Counselor’s Hall in Trammel) on Thursday 10/29 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Tell a tale or just come to listen, but be ready for a spooky time! Rules: Stories must be your own work. One story per person. Five minute time limit per tale (seriously). Stories and language is PG-13. Stories will be judged on their quality, presentation, and scariness. Participants may submit their tales in written form to be added to the Reward Hall library.

Magician's Tournament, Saturday, October 17

Meet at the Counselor’s Hall in Britain at 7 p.m. The tournament WILL take place in Felucca, so be sure to insure your items. Fight will be BEST of THREE – pending number of participants. RULES – Regular mage duel specifications - A lantern in one hand, a spell book in the other. NO : Potions of any sort – Petals of any sort – Forms (lich, wraith, ect) of any sort – Pets or mounts of any sort – Items with charges (invis, ect) – Apples of any sort. Reagents are the ONLY consumable allowed. Packs must be emptied for inspection. Magery will be the only spell casting, no necromancy or other spell casting skills. Hit Point Regeneration on Armor is capped at 12. Suggested Template : 120 Eval – Magery – Med – Resist – Focus – GM Inscribe. Lantern nullifies wrestling. May the best mage win! Rules subject to change before the 17th.

5th Boat Race Challenge, Oct. 4th, 9pm EST

Hawkeye Pike challenges thee to race against him! The stake of the previous races has risen to 5.3 million gold coins! Outsail Hawkeye and win the pot! The race will be held on a predetermined route. If you sail, you have to bet at least 300,000 gold pieces on your victory, which will be added to the pot (those who lack of funds can be helped out). Higher bets or donations are welcome! If Hawkeye Pike beats the participants, the pot will be the prize for the next race. If someone beats Hawkeye, he will win the whole pot. The location of the race will be disclosed prior to the race. Participants will receive a map with the course. Spectators are welcome and invited to sail with us! May the fastest seafarer win! Meeting point: Oct. 4th, 9pm EST at the West Britain Bank. It would be great if one of our EMs would be available as referee! __________________

Catskills Black Market, Oct. 3rd, 8pm EST

It is time for another one of our monthly trading events! Again, merchants and pirates will sell a lot of valuable contraband. The Black Market During this monthly recurring popular event, everyone can sell, buy or trade interesting wares! The facts: Merchants can claim a personal market stand where they can advertise and sell their products. The merchants should enter the list of their products into the book locked down on their market stand (at least one day prior to the event, so people can come by and check on the items). Bargaining is encouraged! If you want to sell contraband, you can simply come to the Black Market building prior to the event and enter your name and your item list into one of the (empty) books on the market stands. By doing that you have claimed the market stand and may use it exclusively during the event. The Black Market building is located next to our Jolly Roger Inn in TRAMMEL. __________________

The Crystal Mapping Machine, by EM Cernunnos

from EM Kasaven and Cern’s Catskills Events Page The Crystal Mapping Machine by EM Cernunnos, September 16 On Thursday the 10th, many clever people arrived to assist Lady Lucretia Genovese with her scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt was a list of twenty items disguised using anagrams, taken from a notebook left behind by the missing crystal expert Bertram Shull. The items themselves were to be combined into a giant machine designed to detect energy-emitting crystals throughout the realm; however the actual plans to build the machine were missing. After gathering all the items, the group selected a location and began trying to assemble the machine as best they could, but soon found the task difficult. Lucretia then promised that skilled tinkers could be hired to assemble the device, however it might take a little time… but now that time is over! Join Lady Lucretia as she attempts to activate the crystal mapping machine on Friday September 18th at 8:00PM EST. The machine is located in the courtyard behind Lord British’s Castle, Trammel facet. If the machine functions as it should, you should be prepared to hunt down some mysterious crystals during the event and may have to face the mutated plant and animal spawn they produce! - Cernunnos

Lady Lucretia had been deeply involved in her research lately, so it’s been tough to get her to reveal what types of things she’s looking for this time. Owain did not reply, he merely drew his sword, Retribution, from its scabbard, and tested the tip of the blade upon his index finger. He pulled back with a wince as fresh blood appeared on the blade. He re-sheathed it with a nod of approval. “You know where they hide,” she looked into Owain’s eyes, “You have seen them.” “I’ve seen your dreams ruin you neigh the last few days, how sweat drips profusely from your body, drenching your bed in perspiration, how you shake uncontrollably, how your face contorts into the most horrid of features.” Dawn placed her hand upon Owain’s shoulder, “Let us end this.” “They plot your destruction, Dawn, as they have plotted mine,” Owain said in a low voice, “I will take you to them, but we will require assistance, time is of the essence.” Dawn nodded and began to scribe a summons to the defenders of virtue. Owain stepped outside the counselor’s hall and let out a sigh. The nightmares will end. I will have vengeance. Battle between Platinum and Crimson Dragons - TONIGHT (Friday)

Hello Catskills, This message was found at http://catskills.uoem.net - A tale told by Bram, Yew Monk: This very morn, I caught a glimpse of a great and noble platinum dragon spiraling down from the cloudless sky, swooping low over the city of Yew. Without a sound, it alighted atop the palisade of Empath Abbey, its claws cutting tiny holes into the stone with the most minimal force. Feeling lucky to catch sight of it, I hid myself behind the winery, both in fear of the creature and awe that I might see one. The beast raised his head to the east, focusing on a location beyond the sight of men. There was a quiet rumbling in its throat; the only outward sign of emotion in the otherwise stoic creature. What place it spied and what it felt, I knew not. Without warning, the beast abruptly turned his head, shifting his weight below him as he reached a clenched claw into the air over the Abbey door. It paused just a moment before dropping a book to the doorstep of the abbey below. I made a step forward to retrieve it, but then was taken aback as a flaming red longsword dropped from the dragon’s claw following the book. The sword pierced the ground and stood straight before me. I looked up again at the dragon, which to my shock, had its gaze turned upon me, and seemed to be quietly judging me. Then, as soundlessly as it arrived, the dragon broke its gaze, turned heavenward, and effortlessly ascended beyond my vision. Retrieving the book, I found these words written inside: Long has Britannia been veiled in the shadows. The light of all that was good in these lands is hidden away behind the oppressive darkness, with evil’s hope that it will wither and die. Yet the light continues to shine! Soon the veil of shadow shall be pierced by the dawn of a new day! Now is the time for those beloved of the light to rally along side the platinum flight! Join my platinum brethren in our assault upon the very source of the Shadowlords’ stronghold in these lands. They are at the eve of their presumed triumph; yet the force we assemble shall shatter their grip upon this land with a strength they cannot imagine! Come, be that strength! -Fayaxion. I reached my hand to take the sword, but upon touching it heard these words in my own head: The time of heroes is at hand! Join us at Empath Abbey in Felucca at 9pm EST on Friday 9/4/09! The importance of this message I felt was clear; and it was my duty and the duty of all others who received this message to spread the word. Those who have allied themselves with the forces of good are asked to assemble at the Empath Abbey. Those who are allied with evil may wish to check their own strongholds for similar messages and instructions from the crimson dragons. Storytelling Contest Returns Wednesday; Mongbat Wrestling Friday

Wednesday 8/26/09 at 8:00 pm Eastern, at the Catskills Reward Hall. The theme for this event is “Rogues”! Tell a tale of thieving adventures, capturing a thief, or anything else about the shadowy world of rogues. Stories will be judged on quality, presentation, and how well they fit the theme of “rogues”. All stories must be the original work of their tellers. Come join us around the campfire and be entertained!   Mongbat Wrestling! Honest Ed the Mongbat Trainer has posted notices around town inviting everyone to bring your tame and bonded mongbats to the West Brit Counselor Hall on Friday 8/28/09 at 9:00pm Eastern to join in the competition. More details will be announced at the event, but it is possible that your mongbats may need to go to Felucca to participate, so please insure yourselves accordingly!
