Two For One: Meet Your UO Stratics Staff/Focus on Factions
| Posted on Sunday, September 20, 2009, 5:21 PM EDT by Watchertoo (CommunityNews) |
Two For One: Meet Your Ultima Online Stratics Staff/Focus on Factions: Lynk of Great Lakes Yes, it has been a while! I hope to have interviews for Meet the Staff and Focus on Factions posted on a regular basis from now on. If you have someone you want interviewed or would like to do an interview, please send me a PM for consideration. Now on to the first combined interview! Please welcome Lynk to UO Stratics revival of Meet the UO Stratics Staff and Focus on Factions. First, please tell us a little about yourself. I'm 25, am from Wisconsin, and I work in Marketing - but I'm really just a computer nerd. I don't really have any fancy equipment. I use a keyboard from the first computer I ever bought, just a regular emachine stock keyboard. My mouse isn't anything special either, the $14 brand from shopko. But my computer is bangin! I don't get to play a whole lot, I usually don't log in until 9 or 10 p.m. M-F (gotta wait for the fiance to head to bed). Play until Mindight - 2am depending on the action. And I'm a beer snob! What is your UOS Forum Staff Name? Lynk How long have you been on the UO Stratics Staff? A couple of weeks. What is your job on UOS? I'm a content editor. I update outdated informational pages and try to write helpful documents where I can. What are your UO character names? It's a pretty long list. I'll just list the PvP characters. Great Lakes: Lynk, Tank, Ressurection, Costello, Pixel, Connor McManus, Lunchbox, Chuck Norris Jr, Soultaker, Onyxia, Yoshio Ogata Baja: Pennywise Catskills: Charles Norris, Klank How long have you been playing UO? I started when T2A launched. I took a break for a year when AoS launched. Haven't really taken a break since I came back. Which client do you play? I play 2D client. I really like the enhanced client, but the lack of UOAM support prevents me from using it. I run a pvp guild and we need to be able to find each other at all times when fighting. I can only switch to the new client when everyone is willing to.
What shards do you play and do you have one you consider “home”? I play Great Lakes, Catskills, and Baja. Great lakes is definitely home for me. The other shards I just build a character and make sure I have enough insurance to never run out. They are strictly for PvP. Great Lakes is where I make money, PvM, etc.
What is your favorite type of char to play? It really depends on what I'm doing but overall I'd say my favorite is my Parry/Ninja mage. How would you describe your play style? Mostly Group PvP, but I do enjoy PvMing. The only PvM I do is peerless type bosses, I don't like group PvM just doing stuff solo. From what I hear the Stygian Dragon is going to be my next endeavor. I do have a crafter for every crafting skill, but I don't really make stuff to sell. Anything I make I usually keep and if I don't use it I'll give it to a guild mate if they need it. How/why did you start playing factions and when? I've been in factions since it launched. I loved the ability to create faction armor/weapons. It was such a great concept pre-insurance - because rank determined how many pieces you could wear but it all stuck with you on death. Now I like it because I run with a very small group and when fighting a larger group it's nice to get a kill and take them out of the fight for 20 minutes. What faction do you belong to? I go to whichever faction will give me the most competitive fights. Right now we are TB on Great Lakes, the opposition is pretty fierce and it's a lot of fun. On Baja and Catskills we are CoM because no other sizable force is.
What would you change or add to factions (and why)? Two things. The first thing is wipe points to 0, remove the double/triple kill point bonus, and remove points for stealing sigils. It's all too easily exploited. It used to mean something to have 60 points. Now it's a joke. Second, remove rank requirement for faction artifacts and extend faction PvP into all trammel rulesets. The faction artifacts were introduced to spark faction involvement. Factions is based on PvP, it's a PvP system. There are folks who put their character in factions, exploit the kill bonus, and stay in tram ruleset using the artifacts that were introduced to promote PvP. The only thing they do is increase the kill point / rank requirement that is needed for the people who really are trying to get into pvp. These people also dramatically decrease the value of real artifacts that many people have invested time and money into.
Have you had any really funny moments playing UO and please share (if you can) I had a great one recently on Catskills. I had 3 of my teammates on and we raided some blues doing Despice. They had far superior numbers with I think 4 or 5 greater dragons. They put up a great fight and it was fun for a good hour or so. After the fact we saw one of those involved at the yew gate in guard zone. I was talking to him and I noticed he had the Armageddon spell macro assigned to a normal key that he used frequently. I had one of my guys keep him talking and start griefing him a little to keep him typing. I went to our guildhouse and grabbed a chunk of black rock that was sitting around. I followed him around and kept throwing it by his feet while he was typing. It finally connected and went off and he just exploded in the guard zone. His corpse was in pieces that we could loot, legs, arms, torso, entrails, etc. I have them locked down on our tower now. What keeps you playing UO? PvP. I've never been able to find a game like this one when it comes to PvP, and I doubt I ever will.
Is there any particular player or group that inspired or helped you become the player you are today? Ya, there are some people that I've been playing with for a long time. Dorinda is one person that I've been PvPing with for longer than I can remember and we make a great team. Dubar is the other influence, I played with him when he was the guild leader and he helped me find my groove as a target caller. He is probably the best caller I've ever played with. What do you see in the future of UO? I don't really think about it too much to be honest. I don't get all that excited over new content and shinys. I think the dev team did an excellent job with introducing the new skills and race. They are not over powered in any way (in my testing). I'm sure there will be a gimpy addition, but the best part about UO is every gimp has a counter. Why did you want to join the UO Stratics Staff? The honest reason? I got sick of wading through 23430 "Whats a sampire?" threads in the warrior forum. I wanted to write a doc to cover all viewpoints thoroughly and be able to point people there.
What do you see in the future for UO Stratics? I'm going to be helping Petra and Tina keep things fresh with the new content. Tina is a much better explorer than I am, so I've got my work cut out to keep up. What would you like to see changed, added? I find the stratics data hard to navigate, I'd like to see a much better search function entered. I feel that we lose a lot of traffic to UO Guide due to their wiki-style set up. Stratics has such great content, but sometimes it takes a while to find what you want. Lastly here's a little plug for my guild - If you like cross shard PvPing and enjoy playing with a small group (5-8 people) in very organized PvP ICQ me! 270541075. We are recruiting for Parry based mage templates, 4/6 holy lighters, and a dismounter on Great Lakes, Catskills, and Baja! If your play time matches up with what I posted in the beginning of the interview you will have a lot of fun. Thanks to Lynk for kicking off the return of Meet your UO Stratics Staff and Focus on Factions! This is to all the women of factions, I want to hear from you! Women of Factions will be resuming as soon as I can organize an interview. First stop Great Lakes (due strictly to the fact I know so many women playing factions here) so please let me know some names so I can get this interview started. Other shards... Let's get some faction and staff interviews!!!! |

Partisans: Part 10 | |
| Posted on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, 5:47 PM EDT by Watchertoo (CommunityNews) |
FINALLY another chapter in the Partisan saga ... You can view the prior parts of Partisans here. Thank you Nonel Topd! Partisans: Part 10 The wretched stench scorched his nostrils, and Nonel felt helpless to stop it. It had been weeks since the battle in Vesper, and yet the smell of burnt flesh and infected wounds seemed to envelop him everywhere he went. He tried to remind himself that it was all in his head. The invasions have been halted, and yet many True Britannians, even Partisans, have failed to return from the massacre. Some are dead. Others missing. Many of the ones whom returned have chosen desertion. Hawksley, George, and Lil’ Snapper never did leave the battlefield at Vesper. Grace O’Malley, grief-stricken in the violent manner of Hawksley’s death, has left the Resistance. Furious over the way the True Britannians conducted themselves, Dilligaf denounced the Commanding Lord, and hasn’t been heard from since. Pepe had the worst of it. As a bloodied and unconscious Nonel was being dragged away by a group of Ophidians; Pepe launched himself into a suicidal attack to try and save him. He somehow survived the conflagration he started, and even managed to save his brother. But Pepe watched in horror as several of the remaining True Britannian soldiers burned to their deaths in the fire he created. He fell well beyond his mental breaking point and has temporarily left the Resistance to seek personal pleasures in Nujel’m. Nonel sighed as the great stress of ever altering events weighed upon him. He never was a man that accepted change. The Minocian Partisan Resistance was now in shambles and the thief knew little of how to help revive it. The monumental debacle of the Battle of Vesper has left many a soul wandering. The True Britannians as a whole are a wreck. Many that survived the battle have turned against their leadership. Most feel they never should have been involved in protecting a fake Vesper; a town of the Trammel facet. Indeed the True Britannians have charged themselves with the protection of the good people still living in the Felucca facet. Few have ever forgiven the Throne for what they felt was a betrayal to their people in creating Trammel and abandoning Felucca to the murderous hordes. The Commanding Lord, Lore Denin, sustained grievous injuries during the battle. As such, he’s been in poor position to try to quell the current uproar from within the True Britannian ranks. They are a militia, and as such will always be subject to the opinions and feelings of those that comprise it. The invasions of the Servants of the Shadowlords, and their beast allies, upon the Trammel facet has ended. The king, Lord Casca, now lay dead. The Shadowlords themselves have been defeated, yet the army of men who still support their ways are fighting on within Felucca as strong as ever. The debate on who would now lead Britannia was of little concern to Nonel. The lands in Trammel would always have their days of glory and their nightmares. The lands in Felucca, however, were only going to get worse. Such is the way of things in Britannia. This is his home, and he will do what is necessary to protect and secure it. Yes, he now understands why marching a True Britannian army to the defense of Trammel was a poor choice. He now understands that the Royal Guard and the many militiamen of that false land would never do the same for them. He now understands Felucca has been left behind, and the people within it must do what is necessary to survive. What a shame, Nonel thought as he finished off the bottle of liquor he had been swigging. He spent every last coin he had for this grand new tavern to be built for the Resistance, and now the Resistance was just three old crooks. Nonel shattered his bottle upon the nearest wall as he staggered for the door. |

Syndicate overview of the new client
| Posted on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, 6:26 AM EDT by Avenhar (CommunityNews) |

Syndicate overview of the new client
Back when the KR client came out, The Syndicate put together an overview of the new client and how some of the newer or more complicated features worked. The Stygian Abyss client is out and the expansion is a few short weeks away so we have released another client overview. You can find the complete overview HERE We will be adding to that webpage over the coming days with some additional features and information. Currently you will find explanation and screenshots explaining:
- An overview of the client including User Settings and what many of them mean, Chat settings including filters and colors as well as hotbar, paperdoll and skills overviews.
- The basics of macros. How to create them with screenshots walking you through the process.
- Making macros for working your skills
- The Atlas and how to make the most of it including setting waypoints of your own
- Mining with the SA client
The next section planned is how to use a custom UI skin with the SA client. Special thanks go to Darkfeather of The Syndicte for assembling all of the content. If you have content you would like to suggest gets added please Contact Us via the link off LLTS.ORG If you have written content you feel should be included you can let us know about that via the same link. If its included full writing credit will be given. And, of course, if you find mistakes in the content please let us know so we can correct those.
