>>> Trammel Facet News <<<

As word spread that Casca was planning a attack on Trinsic on Sunday Eve armies over Sosaria where readied. Citizen's as well came to join the defense of their beloved city. Blockades where built at both the West and South gates in case the worst happened and Casca's attackers broke through.

As the time grew closer you could feel the energy and anticipation from everyone as they readied for battle. There where scouts posted on the roads leading into the West and South gates of the city. Then out of no where Casca stuck and he struck hard. On the West he had his brigands and on the South he had his evil possessed daemons attack at the same time. What he didn't count on was that we where ready as well.

The battles where long and bloody. As he sent in more attackers we as well sent in more reinforcements. Finally the attacks stopped and we succeeded in preventing Casca from making it into the city. Hanna appeared and opened a gate to a evil dungeon where Casca's evil deamons where and we finished them off as well.

However Casca had a little trick set in place there just in case we found the lair. He had placed another gate there. Of course many of us thought it was a way out and as we went through we ended up imprisoned in the old part of Haven. This gate was then magically dispelled and many of our comrades where trapped in the dungeon. After some time another gate appeared in the dungeon and everyone went through this gate which lead to Old Haven as well. So now everyone was trapped together.

We ran around every corner trying to figure a way out. Every entrance and exit was blocked. Then out of nowhere a big black Daemon called "The Beast" appeared. So was this how it was going to end? The coward Casca has sent in his beast to do his dirty work. As we gathered around the daemon wondering our fate he opened a magical gate and said "In the gate or stay trapped forever". So we all hurried through the gate back to Trinsic where we celebrated in our latest victory over Casca however short lived it might be. We all knew full well that there would be more battles coming in the not so far future.

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<The people of Britannia were called to gather at Empath Abbey, in Yew.
A crowd quickly gathered, as we awaited news of the purpose of our summoning.
Soon enough, Nathan Hawk, Seeker of Truth and Captain of the Royal Guard came before those gathered, and addressed us.
He spoke of Lord Casca, and how recent events were leading him to lose faith in the elven king.
The Yewish were inspired by this news, and Hawke had to clarify to some of the attended that regicide was not the purpose of the gathering. Even though there appeared to be evidence of LordCasca having a part in the council murders.
Treason, from the king?
In spite of the news, he ordered that we should all follow the king's orders, until such time as his orders would damage the kingdom.

Casca arrived soon after, and after an unsuccessful attempt by the Yewish to arrest the king, outlined the reason everyone had been called to Yew.
Sparing the details, somewhat, Casca announced that the source of the evil that ashed over the lands had been found, and that it was our mission to extinguish it.
Although it was unclear what was really going to happen, the order was quickly given that we were to follow Casca to our destination.
In light of past events, when those following Casca came under attack from daemons, there was some talk of a trap. But such attackers eluded us, much as our destination did, for a time.
On arrival at the crypts, we were directed to enter an Innocent-looking moongate, which Provided no hint of what lay beyond.

Fierce battle raged, as we pushed through the monsters that seemed to be guarding the dark tunnels, and were just as quickly pushed back.
Shadow fiends fed of our energy, and used it for themselves, driving us back as quickly as we'd advanced.
In time, victory was ours. The tunnels, littered with bodies from both sides, lead to a central room, housing what was described as a BloodSigil.

This, according to Casca, was the source of evil.
The means by which the forces of the shadowlords were attacking our cities, and what we had come to destroy.
And, destroy it we did.

Well, Casca did, and made sure we knew it.
However, his victory speech, back at Empath Abbey, was cut short.
Unimpressed by the efforts of the "puny mortals" to banish them, a Crimson Dragon confronted those in attendance. With the exception of Casca, who made an exit as swift as the dragon's arrival.

While the crowd readied their spells and weapons, the dragon's attention was drawn to one among them. An unremarkable lady, dressed in light blue, in the manner of a noble.
The lady seemed less threatened by the dragon, than it was of her, and referred to it as her "young red cousin".
The meaning of her choice of words son became clear. After her final warning to those attended, to leave for their own safety, she transformed into a giant metallic dragon, rivalling the crimson in both size and presence.
Having very much met its match, the crimson dragon retreated to where it had come from. While the platinum dragon, its purpose apparently fulfilled, departed southwards.

Timpe The Librarian

Ahh-chooo!
It's so dusty in here!

Timpe ran his fingers over the covers of the books as he passed them. The presence of knowledge had always comforted him. This place though, it was so very different from the city of Heartwood where he had spent most of his life.

Ah well, this isn't such a bad place. The ocean view is spectacular and the people are nice enough.
I think I could get used to this.
Besides, what more could a failed scholar hope for then keeping the Royal Library?
Ow, that's right! I must not forget to send him my congratulations and thanks.

One of the guards nodded at Timpe as he walked past. Timpe lit a candle and set it down on the table.

My Noble Lord Casca,

Congratulations on your appointment as King pro-tempore. I for one believe this is the dawn of a new age!
As we were taught in school: Humans are not fit to rule! They lack the perspective…

Also, I would like to again thank you for offering me the position at the Royal Library. Know I will return the favor when you call upon me!

Kindest Regards,
Your cousin, Timpe

Timpe folded the parchment and sealed it. Slowly he stood up, blew out the candle and proceeded to walk again past the long rows of books.

Ahh-chooo!
It's so dusty in here!

An Anonymous Message to Lord Casca

Someone decided to let Lord Casca know how they feel about his newly announced royal status by sneaking in while the guards let their guard down. In turn they took a picture and slipped it into an envelope marked, "Vandals desecrate Castle Blackthorne under Royal Guard's noses!"

What say you Lord Casca? Will it be this easy for the Shadowlords?

All Hail The New King Of Britannia!
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 9:34 AM EST by Mapper (Europa)

All hail the new king of Britannia.. Lord Casca made his first appearance on Sunday at Lord Blackthorns Castle and spoke to those attending from a plaster pillar, The speech included a royal hunt. On Wednesday the speech was replayed and a fight broke out in the Hedge Maze.

His speech told us of how he was taken captive and held in a cell for days, He continued to talk about how he was the only one who posed the information on the portal used by the followers of Armageddon in Wisp Dungeon.

He then thanked the citizens of Britannia for rescuing him

"You rescued me from the clutches of chaos"

"Thanks to you truth, love and courage prevailed"

"And it is you, the citizens of Britannia, to whom I owe my life. By the virtues I now pledge to dedicate that life to you!"

"This day I greet you, the citizens of Britannia as your new king!"

Further into his speech he spoke about the town invasions in our great cities, how kingdom defences are crumbling, over run by the onslaught of evil forces.

At the end of his speech he said he would not hesitate to reach for a sword and together, we would face the trials that await us.

---------

After the speech he mentioned what happened on Sunday, How a group of daemons suddenly appeared on the royal hunt. During the ferocious attack a note was found that said:

"Recruit! We need many more, Untangle, at its core you will find!"

After a short pause members of the crowd suggested dungeons such as the Twisted Weald, Blighted Grove and Exodus, However Lord Casca said he did not understand why it would be there. Another suggestion was yelled out, the hedge maze! Quickly a gate appeared and we headed for the hedge maze in Trammel.

On arriving and finally reaching the centre of the maze balrons and daemons awaited us and a fight broke out.

After the fight I returned home and may have missed any speech afterwards. For those who missed Sherry's Appearance on Monday, It will be replayed again today (Thursday) at 8pm!

CD/MAO Christmas Treasure Hunt - The Report!

What's better, the re-opening of the CD Vendor mall in Umbra or the fact they're hosting a huge event along with the opening?!

If you were at the event on Sunday the 14th you'll know how good it was, However for those who didn't manage to make it, the event was a Christmas Treasure Hunt, with 8 clues leading to 8 locations and people needing to gather items along the way, it was a monster of a quest!

At around 3:30pm I was invited to the guilds pre-brief meeting to discuss who will be positioned at which points throughout the hunt.

At 4pm everyone was asked to gather outside the vendor mall on the Umbra road to meet the players and get ready to give them the first clue.

Everyone was handed a book which detailed the prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, the bonus prizes and of course, most importantly, the first clue.

Below I've split the article into sections for each clue with screenshots of the location.

1st Clue - "Start out on your journey, Where we all began from zombies and mongbats, Oh how we ran. Look out for a stealther or maybe a walker, Your next clue is there, the home of the stalker"

Item Required - Body part

The clue was of course meaning New Haven and Omar from the Chaos of Deception guild kindly gated myself, DJ Slide from Whispering Rose Radio and guest Jacelyn to the table where the 2nd clue was being handed out.

As with all events, at New Haven a wonderfully named 'Poop' decided to steal the table and chair and then claim treasure hunting was for dorks, Well poop, Your name explains everything. Thank you for giving us a good laugh!

2nd Clue - "Due north of here and o'er the sea a magical city once lay. Its ruins are where you need to be, make haste and sail across the bay. Do not stop yet, you must be swift. No time for play or having fun, Until you reach the Shadow Rift. 'Tis here your journey will be done."

Item Required - 3 Fish

Across from New Haven is Magincia however most people took the moongate instead of a boat! Again the very helpful Omar gated myself and the other guests to the location and made sure the monsters were well out the way!

3rd Clue - "Make haste, make haste you're running late. This time you're heading for a gate. Your clue? A mighty tree of old, keep on, don't stop you must be bold. Head west, then south and reach the vine. Now tarry for a cup of wine."

Item Required - Monks Robe

Old trees, a moongate, vines? Well that had to be Yew!

4th Clue - "Twinkle, Twinkle little star, how I wonder where you are. Up above our world so high, like a diamond in the sky. The machine turns on at night, now we see you clear and bright."

Item Required - 4 Night Sight Potions

This one took some thought, however if you know Britannia's major attractions well this one was fairly easy. The Moonglow Telescope!

At this point we were informed a player had already reached the final point and won! So we raced over to the end, but for the article we'll continue through the locations.

5th Clue - "The major city in the realm, is split in two by river wide. Go east my friend and cross the bridge, and may the virtues be your guide."

Item Required - Book of Chivalry

The location being Britain, well guess what, It was under attack at the time! How hard is that location! Myself and the other guests decided it would be safer not to visit this location so I didn't get any screenshots. However stories of an ancient wyrm being a little mean at the Chamber of Virtues filled the party chat!

6th Clue - "From the jail in the city of honour, leave by the gate, south west will lead to a river. Stroll along the banks and you're sure to find a secret trail through the mountains. The valley inside is a closely guarded secret. Now all you have to do is solve the puzzle of the teleporter, to join me on the ground floor of the mage's shop."

Item Required - 6 Zoogie Mushrooms

This was probably the hardest location in the event to get to, the amount of people running around the hidden valley trying to get into the shop was quite funny!

7th Clue - "The longest span in all our lands, 'Tis truly a Sosarian wonder. No more divide in Malas land, the void is there to ponder."

Item Required - A Normal Skull

This clue was fairly easy, the long bridge south of Luna! The clue table was right in the middle of the bridge.

8th Clue - "The road has been long but do not feel weary 'tis time for a song, 'tis time to be cheery. So head to the pits where warriors fight, make use of your wits the end is in sight."

Item Required - This item was rather strange, players had to tame a chicken and name it with a very creative name, the winner would receive the following:

The final location was the Jhelom Fight Pits and the 1st place winner, Heimlich from the [CUK] guild was waiting patiently with his chicken eggbert, He won 1st prize which was 1 million gp and a full virtue armour kit!

Shortly after, Sir Bolo from the [CMS] guild came with his chicken named fowl creature! Winning 2nd place his prize was 500,000 gp, Lady Melisande Hair Dye and a Conjurer’s Grimoire.

3rd place was won by Team Brahma winning 250,000 gp, a 10th Anniversary Sculpture (Luck Sculpture) and a Heritage Token.

4th place was won by Leo winning 100,000 gp, a Rubble Tree and a Spellbook (+2 MR, 24% SDI, 8% LRC)!

After everyone had arrived at the end RainQueen picked the best named chicken. Wokhoss won, His chicken was named HenPeckedHubby, He won the following prize:

After the 4 prizes were handed out, everyone who handed all their clue books and items in got a lottery ticket! The winner was picked by myself and ticket number 10 won the following bonus prize!:

Finally, everyone lined up against a wall for a final group photograph. Id like to thank RainQueen for inviting me to a fantastic event, to DJ Slide for coming and broadcasting the event live on Whispering Rose Radio! And of course a HUGE thank you to everyone who turned up and took part.

I Bid You All Farewell

Dear Europa Community,

I've now been on the Europa news team for almost a year and a half and it has been an interesting journey. I've covered some great events and met some interesting people.

I at one time lead the charge for filling the zoo and thanks to the wonderful community saw that happen, most definitely a wonderful thing to have been involved in.

Sadly my time at stratics has come to its end as I made the decision a while back that I would hang up my shield and fade back into the crowd from which I came.

It also brings to a close my time in UO as well. I'm sure that one day I will return to UO but I don't know when that will be or if indeed UO will still be around when I make it back.
What I do know is I've had a great time and met some wonderful people who I hope will keep in contact with me via ICQ.

Thank you and farewell

Kayne

An Interview with the legendary Petra Fyde
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Thursday, July 17, 2008, 12:24 PM EDT by kayne (Europa)
I'd like to start of by saying that this interview is very long overdue, it was conducted a little while before Stratics went down and I've been waiting til all was sorted to get it put up.
Massive thank you to petra for taking the time to answer these questions and for everything else. Enjoy

-----------------------------------------

It seems there were a lot of people who wanted an interview with the legendary Petra Fyde…

Oh dear, I’m not very interesting! A Boring, middleaged housewife and granny.

First up is the usual start to any player interview. How did you arrive in Sosaria and what was it that caught your attention about the game?

I’d often watched my sons playing console games, when they started playing UO I realised this was a game that I could play too. My younger son let us have a char on his account for a while, and then my husband and I started a shared account in December 2000.

The thing that caught your attention all those years ago, has that gone away now or is it still very much a part of your UO life?

Not gone away, no, changed a little as I’ve become a little less inept and inexperienced, but I still find my ‘life’ in Sosaria fascinating.

Which is your oldest character?

Petra Fyde is the oldest of all our characters, she was the first to have the Fyde name, The characters my husband first had were deleted and Terry Fyde was born. We began to communicate with other players via these characters and so have become known by their names.

Who helped you during your time in UO? Who has been a major influence?

Initially, our sons, though that was a bit ‘blind leading the blind’ Discovering Stratics boards was a major advantage. It was through the board, and more specifically the babble thread, that I met Barian, who has been my friend for many years now.

You own a few vendors at Barian’s Mall, what made you start a vendor? Has it always been at Barian’s or did you start somewhere else? What is the Ethos behind your vendors?

The purpose of our vendors has always been to provide the day-to-day requirements of players. We’re the ‘local department store’ of Sosaria, not the ‘Harrods’ We set up our first vendors at Terry’s. Later Barian invited us to set up vendors at the Mall, and Terry’s moved to Felucca where it became ‘FortyFyde’, however that has since closed..

What was your first home?

Terry and I lived out of our bank boxes for 6 months while we saved up for a small marble shop. It cost us 500k and was near Cove. Some people still remember ‘Terry’s’. Later I took over the Angry Mongbat Tavern in Yewdale. It had been a tavern for the previous 2 owners and we undertook to keep it that way. It’s since been customised, but the bar still remains

What about the first guild you joined?

For a long time both Terry and I refused invitations to join guilds. Terry made a guild called The Hole In The Head Gang [HHG], we put all our characters in that. Then I joined Guardians of Yew [GYE]. When that broke up Barian, Laton and I formed Yewdale Fellowship. I was nominally the GM, but all decisions were actually made by the three of us. Now there’s only Barian and I left but we still hunt regularly together.

What are your thoughts on KR? Which client do you mainly use?

I approached KR with the attitude, ‘it’s the future, I have to learn to adapt’, but to be honest I don’t like it much. I find it hard to see the things I want to see and the targeting system is not only overly complicated, I can’t do with it what I most want to do, ie vet my pets or heal my guildmate at the same time as I’m fighting. I keep trying to use it, I want to be fair, but 2D is so much clearer visually that I spend almost all my time in that.

Where do you think the future of UO lies at the moment?

I wish I knew! I’m hopeful judging by what’s happened in the last month, but also fearful that with KR not getting the reception it could have, had it performed properly, EA may pull the plug.

If you could be an EA dev for UO, what is one thing you would add/take away or change?

Ohh! Difficult, I’d change the collections I think, I’m not quite sure how, but as they stand getting the exhibits needs an effort that comes closer to ‘work’ than ‘play’, which spoils any enjoyment of the task.

What is your favourite thing to do in UO? Are there any particularly memorable moments you’ve had in UO?

I enjoy many things, and am happiest when I have a purpose, whether that’s completing a quest, gathering resources, or fulfilling an ambition. I think I get most pleasure from taming. My most vivid memory though is old, that of jousting my first dragon, as a warrior

What about your worst moment?

I try not to remember worst moments *grins* I did get a bit upset when our connection to the server was broken for 8 hours, but the server was still active. I’d been out with my white wyrm and was sure I’d lost her. I was lucky, I found her wild where I’d left her, though re-taming her while surrounded by rotting corpses, lich lords and lesser undead was a little tricky to say the least.

In your opinion what is it that makes UO special? What is it about UO that’s given it 10 years of life?

The freedom, to do whatever suits your mood, to be whoever you want to be, go wherever you like and to log off in an instant if something comes up RL. The sheer variety of things to do, places to go, things to create. Also the people who play it, they’re a caring community with a helping hand readily extended to anyone who needs it.

Its been said that women tend to like playing male characters to avoid unwanted attention by males, do you agree? Have you ever had a problem with unwanted male attention?

My only male character is one I inherited from Terry. I’m not comfortable playing a male. I can’t say I’ve been bothered by unwanted attention, I either freeze them out or recall away. Most are easily put off by sentences starting with ‘my husband’s char…’ *grins*

What is your favourite template?

That depends entirely on my mood to be honest. I can play my tamer for days, and then leave her untouched while I play my crafter, take my stealth herder creeping round or charge to battle on my warrior.

The 2nd HLP Trade Caravan (Graphic Intensive)
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2008, 5:41 AM EDT by kayne (Europa)
>>> Felucca Facet News <<<

On Tuesday evening the second Trade Caravan took place. Once again many defenders showed up to protect the caravan in this dangerous trip that would take us from Britain to Trinsic. Thanks to all the vaillant warriors who did fight on our side!

And now the full story!

The gates started 20 minutes before the caravan depart and the Britain bridge wasn't very full. I started to fear that the road brigands would outnumber us by far!

But soon enough more and more people joined us and I regained confidence.

Once again we had a "special treatment" from our local beggars. My ears still hurt!

Before the time of depart comes many people were assembled on the Britain bridge! It looked like the travel would be safer than expected!

Before the depart, I made a little speech to brief the people and introduce the two other caravan leaders. People were instructed to follow the closest caravan leader they had.

More people kept arriving as I was finishing the short briefing and we were ready to start marching!

We started to march in relative order on the road down to Trinsic.

We were reaching the limits of the town of Britain and I thought to myself... "way too quiet!"

It didn't lasted long for the first brigands to be spotted!

And the first squirmishes started... right outside Britain's borders! It was going to be a long evening!

Many squirmishes later we finally reached the Trinsic road bridge!

As we expected, the brigands were camping it and we had to battle and cast our way through the fields and arrows!

We tried to clear the surroundings of the bridge to allow the Caravan to pass through it and continue on it's road to Trinsic!

That's where things turned to the worse... in the heat of the battle, the defenders started to chase the brigands who ran on the road down to Trinsic where more of them were waiting.

But... in the same move, they let the caravan defenseless... and I found myself with a handful of defenders and a pack load of attackers! It didn't took long before the world was alternating between colors and greys...

I was running back and forth trying to gather what was left of the Caravan to make our way through the enemies but it was useless. I then decided to run to Trinsic and raise a rescue mission with the people there.

I finally came across the main body of the Caravan near the Trinsic entrance.

Fortunately, the rest of the Caravan leaders could gather the survivors and promptly headed south to rejoin the main group. But on the road to Trinsic entrance the brigands attacked us again!

The battle raged on on the very door of the Paladin's town!

We repelled the attackers but soon enough they did fight back and we were pushed to the doors of the town in defense!

We finally entered the town of Trinsic with the brigands chasing us to the Bridge!

When the minds and the hearts calmed down, we finally regrouped to heal our wounds and see how things turned out.

The result wasn't too brilliant, most of the sword holders got killed and looted of their precious belongings. So we couldn't save but 2 swords from the 8 that departed Britain.

Let's just hope we'll do better next time and that we'll be able to keep the Caravan grouped for a better ending! And possibly less casualities!

Finally we thanked everyone and took our way home to rest from this evening of battle and glory (well... and death!).

Once again, thanks to everyone who attended and made this event and enjoyable one! Thanks and congratulations to the Reds who were highly outnumbered but still succeeded in stealing most of the swords!

Thanks to all those who showed the good spirit we europa players are so proud about! You all make those events an enjoyable time!

A personal thanks to Tyreus (one of the Reds) for rezzing me

-------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Paidric this time round for the report and the screenshots it contains. I spent most of the event dead and on my own so my report wouldn’t have contained very much.

I’m setting a little community minded challenge for the next caravan. I think it will be fun to involve people even further in this.
What I want is for a member of the community to write the next report. To be posted here on Stratics as the official news report with thanks to the writer being given. All you need to do is before the next event send me via pm or to the Europa email address a short report on one of the caravans that have already taken place.
The only other thing I ask is that whoever gets picked to write the official report that you send it to me as soon as possible after the event has finished so that it can be posted as quickly as possible.

I need your help Europa. I need some screenshots for the screenshot section. I need suggestions for shops/taverns to visit that haven’t already been visited. I need to know if the taverns I list here are all still operating at the times I say they are and if there are any others that need to be added to the list.

If you have an establishment, a guild, or a news item you would like featured in a Super Stratics Sunday. A silly story based on in-game events, an idea for an article, or an event whether it takes place in fel or in tram then please send it over to uoeuropa@stratics.com or PM me

Continuing the tour of Luna again, nearly at its completion now. So please send over some suggestions for taverns or shops to feature here.

First up this week is Threes-a-crowd owned by Pestilence. Selling Tokens and some artefacts.

Next up is The Church owned by Gloria. Selling alacrity scrolls and Power scrolls.

Finally this week we have “Luna Nort Shop (in side Luna)” just next to the north exit. Owned by ANTRAX. Selling all sorts of stuff. (Just to note shop name is not a typo on my part)

  • The latest Five on Friday is out. Including a long awaited fix for water barrels and house placement. Check that outHere

  • That concludes this weeks news. Seems there was very little happening over the last week.

Events next week,

  • The second HLP Trade Caravan is on Tuesday 22nd April. Check out full details Here

  • The Rusty Dagger Ale House is on TONIGHT. Its open every Sunday from 8pm to 9.30pm.

  • As always, Swaggers Inn, The Trinsic Rose and The Kings Deer Tavern are all open in the evenings ALL WEEK!

This weeks screenshot is another from the archives, apparently the tent is on fire.
Please send in some screenshots if you want them featured here. (No shops or taverns please. Keep those for the establishment section)

Received the following from Paidric of New Haven. Hope to see many of you there again

Hello fellow citizens,

Once again our guild will take the road on a trade caravan. This time we'll depart from Britain and head to Trinsic. We expect the trip to be rather dangerous so we look for as many guards as possible. If you don't fear some action, come and join us!

Here is the map of our planned route
