Royal Academy of Virtue: Compassion Studies

The newly founded Royal Academy of Virtue invites all citizens of Sosaria to attend the first in a series of seminars, discussions, and adventures into how the Virtues touch our lives. The first installment of the series will take place on Thursday, November 19th, 2009 at 8:00 PM (CST) in the East Counselor's Hall in Britain (3°46' S by 21°43' E, Trammel), and will focus on the Virtue of Compassion. This first installment on Compassion will begin with a tale of Virtue, followed by open discussion on what everyone sees Compassion to mean, and how it may or may not apply to both the tale and our everyday lives. Refreshments will be available, and a textbook including the tale and some self-reflecting questions will be provided at the seminar. The Royal Academy of Virtue hopes to foster a new age of understanding by taking a deeper look at the core principals of Britannia. In this post-Cascan era, empowering ourselves with the strength of the Virtues will prepare us for any future threat to Britannia and Sosaria at whole. We hope to see you there!

GOF Net Toss ~ Part of the Anniversary Weekend

. . Earlier in the week William of GOF (Guild of Friends) posted on the Great Lakes boards all the activities on the slate for this anniversary weekend of this guild. Eleven years! I made sure I was able to attend the Net Toss saturday afternoon. My weakness for a Net Toss goes back many years and I think I have attended all but one that has been hosted by FCB. GOF Net Toss was a little different as they allowed pets and casting. It was a great change and I brought my tamer. I must say I prefer the FCB rule set but it was fun, no doubt about it. Many GOF members were there to help and to join in. Of course William was there as were, Lady Tessa, Lord Gothar, Lady Alice, Lord Legend, Rhanagher, Stonefish, Lexi, Capt. Jack Sparrow, Black Eagle, WhiteRoze, Spyder, Lord Ladon, princess gina to mention a few GOF. As with most of these events some of the best memories had and fun is before the event actually starts. Evlar had the crowd entertained, not just because he was naked but because of his RP associated with it. As far as the toss itself Lady Tessa pointed out to all that boats were placed so when the killing started all corpses could be accessed. It worked rather well. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY GOF

Little Bo Beep Kills Her Sheep at Yew-Wood Forest Theatre

. . The Great Lakes Roleplay Community and the Yew-Wood Forest Theatre gave an eve of spooktacular fun not to be forgotten soon! The stage was set perfectly for the event, spider webs and all. Willa of the Yew-Wood, Hellga the Hag, Ra'Dian Fl'gith and Martyna Z'muir seemed to be running the show and what a show it was. It was a small group of contestants but the ones attending truly got into the mood of the season. A Q&A started the evening with much gold had by the guests with the correct answers. Neptune of DC* seemed to get every other question correct. He is a smart one he is I tell ya. During the entire Q&A a very small creepy goblin annoyed the crowd, drooling on people, touching them with its slimy fingers and trying to borrow ( steal ). He/she/it even chewed on Little Bo Peeps sheep! If that was not bad enough a HUGE spider appeared at one point biting the hosts and guests. Spider bites can be very angry. Brews were boiled, pots over flowed and sweet treats were given to the partons but all seated were waiting for the costume contest to begin. Looking around at the contestants was a true freak show. It was not easy for the judges. All were asked to come center stage and the real role playing began...and what a show it was. The runner up was Dalonel. Green, mean and only a face a mother could love. Third runner up was Lady Satura as Little Bo Peep. She made a huge impact on the judges as she slaughtered her sheep on stage. Blood was everywhere and the crowd cheered for joy! A sick bunch indeed. Second runner up was my good friend and smart guy Neptune as a savage. The winner was Lady Lindera as the infamous cauldron stirring witch. A little side note is that both Lady Lindera and Lady Satura are in the -Y- Guild and that Satura's tailor actually made the outfit for Lindera. Lindera just added the green jewerly and pot to stir...and boy did she stir the pot! Lady Lindera as witch After the contest everyone moved to the rooftop but many guests were stunned and stopped at the showcased shoe collection on the way up. More games, refreshments and great conversation met the guests on the roof. What a way to end an evening. I must confess....my favorite costume was a pickle. Not so much as the outfit itself but the idea and the way it looked in the realm, not the paperdoll. Thank you to all that put time and effort into this event. Hopefully there will be a Christmas/winter one at the theatre.

Ye Grand OL Chicken Shack Arena...Get Your Eggs Now !

. . Ye Grand OL Chicken Shack Arena ~ Ginseng, a very active player on Great Lakes, has been spending less time on the water and more on land. It has been all about eggs and chickens for Ginseng since the last expansion. The birth of the Ye Grand OL Chicken Shack Arena is upon us. Ginseng has put a lot of time and thought into the design of this plot with poultry and eggs in mind. For weeks runes are everyone on the ground to this location and if for some odd reason you cannot find one the cords are 60o 28'S, 38o 19'E. On the subject of time... Ginseng has spent many hours tending her eggs so that there are many for sale and yes Ye Grand OL Chicken Shack Arena is the place to purchase them. Since the expansion I too have been hatching eggs. With over a hundred eggs hatched only one has been a fighter so far. She is plain green and I have called her Mean Green as her stats as a newborn are fierce. Ginseng sells these time consuming fighter eggs for one million unless they are special colors such as pink shadow, sigil, ice colors or two toned. I was gifted with a two toned egg by the generous Ginseng so now I have two fighters to train. *claps* Not only will there be future fights at this location aside from the brisk egg business but the place is filled with helpful books. I have copied one for our readers but I suggest you make a visit and read all the books. So get your egg and chicken on and see you at the fights!

From Luna to Brit, MOA to the -Y- Auction House Great Lakes Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

. . October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month ~ This year National Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebrates twenty five years and many people on the Great Lakes shard are aware of this. Last year at this time the Dragon Clan DC* had all of its member wear pink the entire month of October. They even posed in great numbers for screenshots that were featured on Stratics. The guild appears to be less organized this year in this matter though two or three members have been seen about Luna in dusty pink. Other people and guilds have picked up the ball this year and often I have seen pink robes on the ground in Luna and Brit inspiring people to inquire what and why they are there. * A Luna Bank supporter * Though the Brit bank is not as busy as it once was visits have increased with the arcane focus bonus to be had there not to mention people wanting to check out the new bank design. * Brit Bank supporters * I popped into the MOA Auction House this past thursday to see what pink I would see and indeed there was some. On the subject of MOA and auction houses I also checked out the -Y- Guild Auction this week and low and behold a MOA member was a patron dressed in pink showing support, rather sexy support I might add. Melian of MOA has always known how to work an outfit! MOA was not the only guild represented at the -Y- auction. T8V, TDR, UOD, GOF, FCB, SK, DC*, DYT, W-R, SOB, UBR, B*R, FKD and DOH! all had patrons attending. Even Tecumseh of the popular Tecs Luna Vendor Shop stopped by for a while. The -Y- Auction has irregular dates but usually runs at least once a month, gates are always provided from major banks. The auction house had a new look and I asked Samantha of -Y- who designed it. She informed me it was a group effort and they have showcased the -Y- Guild colors. Some truly great items went up on the auction block and some great deals were had by patrons. Melian was not trhe only patron friday night showing support in pink. Bobby McGee was front and center. Her Path to the Throne

Long before the defeat of the Shadowlords deep beneath the Isle of Fire, Lady Dawn was considered a Hero of the Realm. During the struggles against the Juka she helped turn the tide of war and befriend the Meer. Later, she gained even greater fame for striking the killing blow on the traitorous half-machine Lord Blackthorn. After many years enjoying a happily quiet married life on the outskirts Yew, circumstances forced Dawn to return to public service. The villainous Casca ordered her murder based on the prediction she would lead Britannia against his dark masters. His first attempt in Yew failed, and drew the attention of many toward Dawn - including the benevolent Platinum Dragons. Fortunately, subsequent attempts on Dawn's life were also failures as Virtuous citizens banded together to defeat Casca's evil schemes. The Resistance quickly focused on Dawn, seeing her as an ideal symbol of what Britannia had lost. During a meeting with the Platinum Dragon called Fayaxion, it was agreed that Dawn would lead the combined forces of Virtue in the escalating war against the Shadowlords. Four major battles were fought against the Shadow Army with Lady Dawn as Commander. The first being the defense of Luna from a grueling week-long siege that threatened to destroy the city. Skara Brae also came under attack during this period, as the Shadowlords attempted to split Britannia's forces. They failed. Later, Lady Dawn led her army to Felucca to aid the Platinums in defeating the malevolent Crimson Dragons who had allied with the Shadowlords. Again the day was won, Virtue having triumphed over evil. The next day, Dawn took the battle directly to the Shadowlords during their attempt to form a new Gem of Immortality. One by one they fell, freeing Sosaria. Wishing to destroy the Ruby Gem (which would have been transfigured into a new Gem of Immortality) Dawn had a blackrock mallet and chisel fashioned. Unfortunately, the last of the Enforcers managed to steal the tools and go into hiding in the last of Casca's secret prisons. A large group of loyal citizens found the prison located deep underground. Fighting their way through the Enforcers still loyal to the deposed Cascan Regime, they finally located the mallet and chisel on the corpse of Enforcer Xavier. As a bonus, the disgraced Captain of the Royal Guard, Tomas Savos, was located and freed from the inhuman conditions of the hidden prison. Presented with the mallet and chisel, Lady Dawn chose Blackthorn's Keep as the site for the gem's destruction. As her arm poised to strike the hateful ruby, the traitorous Casca appeared claiming he was bound to the gem. Ignoring the despot as he pled for his pitiful life, Dawn brought the mallet down smashing the last of the Shadowlord's threat to Britannia. Casca fell to the ground lifeless and cheer echoed throughout the Keep. After Sherry the Mouse announced that Lady Dawn would be crowned Queen of Britannia due to 'the common consent of her people,' Dawn sent a missive to Queen Zhah of the newly discovered Ter Mur to open diplomatic relations. While plans for a grand coronation ceremony commenced, Queen Dawn stepped up to lead her people into a bright future. When the two Queens met in the throne room of Castle British, they spoke of common goals for their peoples. To further such cooperation, communication and trade, the Britannian moongate system now has a convenient portal to the gargoyle homeland. May the Kingdom of Britannia and the Kingdom of Ter Mur enjoy a long, rich and rewarding relationship! Sadly, however, there are those whose unbalanced minds see such a relationship as a dreadful thing. A racist group calling themselves the 'Brotherhood of Valor' seeks to make Britannia human-only, seeing all other sentient races as beneath contempt. (More on them in future articles…) The Coronation of Lady Dawn is scheduled for this Friday, October 9th, at 8pm under the Central Skies at Castle British. There will be several speeches delivered to commemorate the occasion, as well as a celebratory net toss sponsored by the Fishing Council of Britannia afterwards. Brit Bank Has A New Look !

. . Brit Bank Has A New Look ! That is right folks......Brit Bank has had a makeover. Even the arcane circle is a new color, green! For all those Spellweavers the Brit Bank has been a daily visit to get that extra 6 point focus. Now they can get it in a green way. The topic on everyones tongues was/is, " How do you like it ?" Many enjoy the new benches, easy access to the roof and the general greening warm-up of the area. Do I like the new look ? Yes I do like the new look but do I love it?.... No. I am always for change and happy to see this as I too have a spellweaver, two actually and go to the Brit Bank often, though Luna is my home. Of course if we were each re-doing the bank area we would each do it differently. The one thing that seems very out of place is the marble fountain just plopped with no transition to it nor around it. Merry Mo enjoys a rest on one of the benches at the Brit Bank A perfect setting for a autumn picnic and people watching

Trial of Tomas Savos - Redux

Tomorrow night, Tomas will be put on a fair “Trial” for the situation related to the poisonings at the West Britain Farms. Tomas has been officially pardoned by Dawn, as with the others who were jailed by Casca, so the Trial is mostly Symbolic. It is still unknown if Tomas is innocent or guilty, however, so the outcome of this Trial will have a large role in how Tomas is looked at in the future. All who attend this symbolic trial will be given the option to take part as a witness, as a juror, or by asking questions of witnesses. Those who wish to simply watch and not take part are welcome as well. Trial will be on Friday, October 2 at 8 PM CST.

. . . -Y- Guild Kills Stygian Dragon ! So much new territory to cover, so many things to imbue, so many new creatures to kill. The past few weeks have found many groups of all sizes entering the lair of the Stygian Dragon and exiting defeated. The -Y- Guild was one of those guilds. This evening however defeat was a word they refused to hear. Gathering ten members they huddled outside planning their attack. It took less than an hour but the deaths were countless, seriously...countless. This beast is not just large in stature but large in strength. By the looks of the screenshots provided by Gene Pool Slayer a fun time was had by all. Thank you for sharing Gene. Hopefully these images will excite and inspire others to attack this beast. If any other guilds or groups kill Slasher, Medussa or other new monsters please forward screenshots with hunt details.

Polar Does The "Q"

. . Polar does the Q ~ When I think of the word Polar I think of bear. What was the inspiration for naming a character Polar ? Wow, you're good. my first polar character was created on oceania back in 2002, when tamers on mares ruled the late brit bank. peer pressure pushed me towards taming, and subsequently most of my time was spent on ice island taming walruses, snow leapords, and you guessed it - polar bears. I was young and impressionable when I named him polar, however, when I returned to the game a year and a half ago polar was the first thing to pop into my head. Polar is "wicked". What are his skills and where does he spend most of his time in the realm ? Polar is a pure necro/mage, and I reccommend the template to any player looking for an all around foundation character for your account. I haven't been able to get on as much recently, but I built Polar for fel spawns and when I do find time to play during the day he can be found running around t2a. as for the wicked, well, that question should be directed to my ex gf. When and how did you first hear about UO? I had a friend back in the day who got me into the game. He started/played in the pre-trammel days, and every now and then I would help him out on his account. By the time I decided to play on my own, he had quit. You belong to the -Y- guild that encourages and helps new/young players. Who helped you when you first started playing this game ? On Oceania I belonged to two guilds - EYE of the New Dawn, and UL (united labor). I don't remember many people from either guild, however, there was a character Grandal Excarl who acted as my mentor. When I returned to the game I kept to myself until running into Kid Icarus at Brit bank - at which point I decided to join -Y-. joining -Y- enabled me to explore the newer aspects of the game that i was not able to do otherwise, primarily because of lack of skill and lack of knowledge. Shout out to SirChristopher, Kid, Satura, Anders, Milar, JD (apologize in advance if I missed ya), all who helped me get on my feet on Great Lakes. With Necromancer on the pvp front, I'd have to thank Merlin and Steve, as both helped me understand the tactics behind pvping. I'll stop the acceptance speech before kanye comes up on stage. Grandal, if you're out there man come find me. What was the very first computer game you ever played ? Old school Sim City Do you play any other computers games besides UO at this time? I play motherload on miniclip.com when I get bored of UO. shhhhhhhhhh. I consider it more of a brief entertainment tool than a computer game. If you could change one thing about UO what would it be? Loyalty amongst members in the same faction. there should be a limit on the amount of times a player in the faction system can attack AND kill any other member of the same faction. I'd say somewhere around 10, at which point he/she will be booted from the faction for a period of time. I do it when I have to, but it's wrong when you think about the concept of factions you have to ask yourself what the point of choosing one faction over another is when everyone is attacking everyone. What is the thing you are most excited about with SA? Can't wait to get some HLA on my war fork, or make a rediculous bow like I see saint of killers rockin' at the bank so I can trade Lord Denin for his war fork. either way, I'm looking forward to playing with a kick ass fork. Which location in the realm do you think is most beautiful? This is a tough one. I'd have to go with the coast to the east of ice dungeon entrance in fel. that tower over there is the spot. MULTI MILLIONAIRES at Pet Auction !

. . MULTI MILLIONAIRES at Pet Auction ! Tonight was the first pet auction held at the Chicken Fight Club. CFC has been around many years giving much entertainment to the people of Great Lakes and tonight was another example of it. It appears all the high rollers turned out to bid on these creatures and the gold was flowing! Lakin was first in the ring to welcome everyone to this ground breaking event. The house was filled with CFC members including Bow Man, Winter Kairn, Lady Anok Libertine and of course rachel. FCB will be uniting with CFC so FCB had a strong force there including Nikita and Lord Fish King. Gem arrived just before the first pet was on the block. She arrived dressed in deep burgandys and headed to the deep red benches. This girl obviously wants to look her best and found just right color keyed bench to go with her outfit. BriarRose was lending a hand to this event by being the auctioneer and she did a great job. At times she was overwhelmed by the fast and furious bids coming her way but she never missed a beat. A wide variety of creatures went for auction and the first was a chicken names B Greater Chicken. It was one of the lowest sales of the night going for only 250k. Then again 250k for a chicken is not cheap, lol. It was the Cu's and Greater Dragons that went for the big bucks. Hannah purchased a beautiful Cu for 12 million. Even a freshly tamed untrained Greater Dragon went for millions. It did have good stats of course. In between pet sales Gold Digger did trivia with gold prize rewards and Lord Clark did jokes. Hard to get jokes but highly amusing. It was so nice to see The Tradesman's Guild, CFC and FCB working together. Towards the end of the event Gem ( or was it Lakin ) announced the new name of the joined effort of CFC and FCB. It was a contest with the winner getting ten million dollars. With that kind of prize money even I could not resist sending in submissions. I sent in five but the winning name was provided by Ra'Dian Fi'Gith. This was not a poor mans event but paid well for all the hard work the tamers put into training these beasts.
