Battle with the Defiler (8-6-11) Event
| Posted on Thursday, August 11, 2011, 2:41 PM EDT by Petra Fyde (LakeAustin) |
Kindly Contributed by Guest Writer - TheVampster I thought I was late to the event, but Queen Zhah was running around and had a gate open to where others were fighting Scelestus the Defiler on an isle. I mainly healed others, but got a few hits in...

So after the event, our reward from the Queen was his hand. It makes sparklies. It was fun.

Updated September 18 - A Changing of the Guard
| Posted on Saturday, September 18, 2010, 9:49 AM EDT by Andrasta (LakeAustin) |
UPDATE: Just to give a heads up that I will be tabulating the sides for a little while, just to give everyone a chance. As it stands so far, Queen Dawn is receiving SIGNIFICANTLY more support (IE most everyone) than Prince Juntos. In response to some e-mails: the original intention was for the player to be able to pick a petal from the Morte Rossa plant and return it to their chosen oracle before it decayed, but due to some difficulties (mainly getting the petal to work like it should) that would have made the debut of the quest take a lot longer, I changed it to simply having to identify the location of it. Also, in response to other e-mails about multiple characters: I would prefer players stick to one character as I am still in the air about this and am going to play it by ear to see if things even out a bit more. If not, I'll update here again and we'll figure something out. |

A Changing of the Guard | |
| Posted on Sunday, September 12, 2010, 8:29 PM EDT by Andrasta (LakeAustin) |
The first war against the Void escalates once again! Now is the time to decide where your loyalties lie! Event Date: This first event is entirely oracle driven and is ongoing beginning Sunday September 12th, 2010 and lasting until further notice. Notes: As discussed at the last Meet and Greet, "A Changing of the Guard" is the first in a series of themed events where the players will choose a side and through the completion of assigned missions (through liaisons that will be introduced in the future), they can affect the sequence (or outcome) of events and also earn reputation with their chosen side (which will lead to quite a few more things). For those wishing to participate (Hopefully everyone ), here are the guidelines: 1. First I recommend the following readings: [Fiction] Kingdom Corrupted - A Feast for Vultures [Fiction] Kingdom Corrupted - The Valiant [Event Fiction] Forsaken Loyalties 2. For this series, you can choose to throw in your lot with either Queen Dawn and the Forces of Britannia or the Warlord-Prince Juntos and the Armies of the Juka. 3. Should you choose to side with the Juka, see Councilor Branka just outside of Mistas (right at the top of the hill leading through to the main entrance). 4. Should you choose to side with the Queen, see Royal Adjutant Algar just outside of Castle British (next to the stairs that lead up to the castle) . 5. VERY IMPORTANT. Once the player has chosen a side, they will go to their assigned oracle-NPC (as just mentioned) and from there, operate the oracle normally (through keywords) and get their mission. Exclusive to this first mission, once the player has completed the assignment (in this instance, discovering a location) they MUST e-mail me ( [email protected]) or PM me three things: The character name The chosen side (The Juka or the Queen) And the location of the goal (where the thing you searching for is located) 6. For the sake of simplicity, the first mission for both sides is the same and is relatively short (and there is no reward). I will manually be keeping track of who sides with who and it should be noted that for every 1 reputation point you gain with one side is 3 that you lose with the other. If a player does not get in touch with me concerning their decision, then no note will be made and the player remains neutral. To quickly summarize: Choose a side (as mentioned above), head to your NPC oracle, perform the mission then e-mail or PM me the three things mentioned above. Any questions (please refrain from posting information spoiler details of the missions, send those by PM), as I am sure there will be many, or suggestions, please post them to this thread or e-mail me at [email protected]. On the side, know that this series is and will be experimentation, and I will be trying several new things to liven things up as the series goes on. |

Luna Trash Can Design Contest
| Posted on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 10:42 AM EDT by Paul Harvey (LakeAustin) |
Greetings, This just in.
Hello!
Lake Austin residents have requested a Trash Can be placed in Luna Bank. I am pleased to say this has been approved by Mesanna. I thought for a fun twist we could have a design contest to determine what our Trash Can should look like. I’ve drawn up the following rules:
1) Entries are to be submitted via email to uoem.dexter at gmail.com with the subject “TRASH CAN”. Multiple entries are allowed but please try to contain them to one email per person.
2) Entry should contain a brief worded description of the trash can. You should explain why you feel your design is suitable. eg: “I chose Luna white for the color as it’s Luna’s trash can”.
3) Entry may contain images, but this is not mandatory; there is no artistic or technical requirement to enter. Please crop any images as small as possible. A useful tool for mocking up a picture is Inside UO. You may also use Classic Client or Enhanced Client to generate your image.
4) Trash Can must be a “portable” type container (not a house add-on deed). It needn’t be a type normally available to players.
5) Hue of the Trash Can must be pre-existing (seen elsewhere in game). If you do not include a picture please name the hue if one exists, eg: “Bloodwood”, “Agapite”, “Paragon Gold”.
6) Please clearly state the name of the character you want credited with the design. There will be a plaque placed above or by the trash can naming you as the donor, eg: “Luna City Trash Can Donated By …”.
These rules may be subject to change, exact wording of the plaque is to be decided, and final winner will be decided by the EM Team. There is no firm closing date as yet, but it will likely be after Hallowe’en.
Have at it and have fun! -EM Dexter

Good evening fellow citizens,
This evening it was brought to my attention something had happened in the almost deserted city of Britain. So I ventured myself over there and to my amazement . . . .WOW! ! There are hitching posts, vines, treasure inside the vault, benches, fruit trees, a forge and anvil, plants and other warmly decor.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves

Will this bring the people back to Britain? Only time will tell. All I know is that this reporter will be spending some more time back in Britain

In the Hot Seat : Pan Arcane
| Posted on Sunday, October 11, 2009, 5:15 PM EDT by Paul Harvey (LakeAustin) |
1. How old are you?
I am twenty three years old.
2. How long have you played UO?
I have played Ultima Online since June 13, 1998. I turned twelve three weeks later.
3. How long have you been on L.A. ?
I arrived on the very first day, September 18, 2002.
4. Many of us know but for those who don't, what is your preferred play style? template?
I have no play style or template preferences. I can adapt to any style and any template. I consider myself to be a complete player.
5. Some would say you are controversial, do you see yourself that way?
No, I do not have any self doubt. I see myself as honest, non-confrontational person. I speak my mind and give others the opportunity to speak theirs. At the end of the day, actions in the game are what count and not what is spoken of the game. I will always take a verbal stand for my actions.
6. Tell us a little about whats going on now with Pan Arcane and your "retirement" from PvP.
Following my return from a nearly five-year hiatus we regained distinction in Lake Austin's PvP community ultimately as the elite class. It got to the point where large guilds were setting their alarm clocks to server up just to "sneak" champion spawns under our radar, or ceasing to exist completely. Needless to say the PvP atmosphere had become a little stale and unsatisfying. We decided to set our focus on all different aspects of the game, also providing the time necessary to recharge what is left in the tank. If we regain the missing passion you can expect to see us PvP one day again.
The Trammel based style of play is one that I have always excelled at, but never took the time out to enjoy in such great depth as I did in the earlier years of UO. We established a movement - or call it a challenge if you will to revive the community on Lake Austin and encourage other players to start working toward the same. Already you are seeing the results, sporadically. People are coming out to play more. I think as things progress Lake Austin will become one of the premier communities in Ultima Online again. I already have a lot of things on my plate looking forward the future.
7. King Pan Arcane? A self declaration? And what weight does this carry? Expectations? What will you do as king?
This bit initially started while lovely Dawn was giving a speech about the death of King Casca. My reaction was, "What King Casca?" My words to Dawn were precisely that. The Lake Austin community doesn't need a storyline, or a non-player King. They want the real deal. My notion to Dawn was that any King or Queen will first need to dethrone me, something that so-called "King" Casca could never do.
It progressed as a reputation more recently after the Stygian Abyss expansion when somebody had asked me to join the "Rivenmyst" community as I understand it is called, which I initially accepted. Their immediate motion was that they could be "Queen" and I could be "King" - I liked that. A day later it became apparent to me that others involved wanted to one-up my co-existing establishment by calling themselves "the first" (when my house was the first) maybe thinking it would fly past me. I separated my establishment from Rivenmyst and instead as King chose to dub the area "Arcania". Ultimately, I wanted to use this to boast a friendly little Trammel-oriented competition but soon after it turned a bit soggy. I still see good things upcoming for Arcania; Rivenmyst or which ever name you wish to call it.
8. How do you feel about being accused of using 3rd party cheat programs? Do you? What programs do you use if any?
My answer comes to you in the form of a question. How would you feel about being accused of cheating? I like to have other players forget about the third party, and instead focus on the fifth and sixth party. By this point they must understand there are no foul tricks. They are just being outclassed and that is all it is. Pan Arcane don't need no black sheep wall.
9. How many computers/accounts do you use while playing?
1. Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.93GHz; 256MB RAM; ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series.
10. What inspires you these days?
The thought of us 'Arcanes' going out the right away: nobody questioning who we are or what we accomplished. We just want to go out our way, being the best that ever did it 'our way' no matter Trammel or Felucca.
11. Who has been your biggest influence on game play?
Soldevi Arcane otherwise known as the undisputable Multanijean. The prodigy who played UO longer than I, who has experienced as much as I, who I once took under my wing to become the most thunderous Arcane of all time, even greater than me myself. I came back because he was constantly nagging, every day for over a thousand days. As you can see our chemistry in the game never changed.
12. Who has been your greatest nemesis?
The only player that I have conquered time after time after time, who I still regard as a nemesis is Akasha the leader of the Akashic Brotherhood (A|B) the first "big name" guild on LA other than my own. I don't even enjoy bringing up his name but he was too much fun to play against, that I miss. This player was undoubtedly the greatest loser I have ever come to know in my whole history of playing Ultima Online. Seven years later the name 'Akasha' motivates me like the taste of blood to a ferocious furry lion. To this day, I wish the Akashic Brotherhood would reform under his leadership - that he would resume his role as my true nemesis so I could deliver to him another series of proverbial asswhoopings. No other player could pester me or motivate me so much.
13. Who has been your greatest ally?
I am my greatest ally. As a young child somebody once gave me a pencil that read, "You can if you think you can!" I haven't stopped believing in myself since.
14. Tell us a little bit about "ROAD". How many members? When it was formed? why? Any mission statement?
ROAD stands for the Revolution of Arcane Domination. There are two members, Soldevi Arcane and Pan Arcane, that form its core which came together day one of Lake Austin. Artanis Arcane was the third party involved obviously in its creation but he moved on from the game in 2003. We were first known as Oblivious Empire (O:E) and have also gone on to be known as the Arcane Empire (A:E) or Run Off And Recall (ROAR). Lake Austin is where we established and where we will complete the 'Arcane' identity as it ever were.
15. What flavor ice cream is your favorite?
Breyers Heavenly Hash, but which ever flavor you're eating will do fine. Just pass it over.
16. Tell us something about Pan Arcane that we don't know?
There is a person behind the character. I am not all that I play to be. I have explained to others - I do not walk around my profession saying I am the "best employee", nor do I claim to my wife to be the "best husband" as much as that is one day what she deserves. I too have feelings and other social understanding. Pan Arcane is a role - a saga - a legacy that I have started will one day finish. Yes, I will walk away some day with all of the "controversy" that makes this vibrant personality come to life. Pan Arcane is more than my character, but my Picasso gaming personality and one that I am totally addicted to. When I step away from the computer none of the quarrels or qualms exist anymore. I don't even think about the game again until the next time I log in. I separate life from the game and being Pan Arcane is something that I surely missed for those years that I was away, and something that I will miss when it is all said and done. I just hope people do not take all that I do or say to heart, but instead look at the good aspects of challenge & confusion that I bring to their every day gaming life. I am an experienced roleplayer, through and through.
17. Is there anything you would like to see added or changed within the game?
I had a thought about this recently. It is obvious that the game has a shell of its former subscriptions. So, they want to make it exciting for those that stay around? How about make a change that will bring a new, exciting element to player interaction. Open up housing to a house per shard instead of a house per account and change the rules on inactive accounts that hold housing so they'll fall quicker. Let's fill up some of these empty spots with worthwhile housing. I can presently find a keep spot on most of the existing shards, our shard included. So far gone are the days when you had to work for a suit of armor, let alone own a house. I'd love to see people trading housing again.
There is also so much land that they should just change all of the lands to a Felucca ruleset and keep guard zones imposed in town regions. With insurance it does not matter if you die to another player the odd time. I have so much to say on this particular topic that you're going to have to catch me for another interview.
18. Do you feel you are misunderstood?
People derive their own understanding and I respect that. If they take initiative and respect me, they will understand my character in a different light. If you do not respect me, do not expect it in return. I am a personality hard not to like.
19. If they wrote a book about you what would the title be?
Pan Arcane - and the first sentence shall read, "Once upon all time..."
20. You recently declared war on the new village Ryvenmist, define what that means ? Can you really declare war on a tram village? special tactics involved?
This is not a war. People misinterpreted that from the beginning. This is a trade war. This is a way to promote friendly rivalry between the two establishments - to hopefully promote establishment & vendor growth in the Ter Mur facet. The King is already set in his ways - he shall bring inexpensive goods and prosperity to the table for the people of Arcania and the whole of Lake Austin. Will the Rivenmyst peasantry do the same?
21. Can you share some insight on tactics, Templates, and equipment?
Play a template you decide best suits you. Equipment varies on the character type you play, but hopefully one would gain survival experience before depending on equipment to stay alive. Don't be afraid to try new things, no matter what type of person or what style of player you are. Feelings are not meant to be hurt playing a video game - so enjoy the game as it is intended and all of its aspects. Be selfish. Don't live in fear of failure. Failure in the game to me means, "res up" and try it again! Never give up! I don't know of the word "quit" anymore. Tactical excellence falls under the experience category. Experience is gained by experimenting. Never be afraid to experiment. I'd encourage all to get out and experience all different aspects of the game, and have as much fun as they can.
Any last words or thoughts?
You really think my last words will be the last? I am Pan Arcane, a raging narcissist. |

Last night EM Dexter was at the Counselors Guild Hall to meet some of the citizens of LA. I was unable to gather pictures but I did take a few notes.
The most important thing that came to light was the new EM events news page or blog. The link is in a sticky thread on the LA forum or it is here. There is a complete transcript of the meet and greet with EM Dexter there also.
It was very informal and informative. Thanks to EM Dexter for all your patience and information.

Chicken and Rabbit Wars Over Eggs
| Posted on Thursday, April 16, 2009, 9:32 PM EDT by Paul Harvey (LakeAustin) |
Howdy Folks, Just off the pigeon delivery express system. I received a note this evening about a CTTA Event
Esther Bunny was worried that the Easter Bunny might not make an appearance this year. How disappointed the citizens of Britannia would be! That definitely could not be allowed to happen. So she decided to institute Plan B.
She spent long hours toiling over her bunny stove, making the fine chocolates and tasty spring cakes. She also borrowed a few eggs from the local chickens and dyed them in vibrant colors. (It was a very busy time for Esther, so she may have forgotten to mention this to the chickens.) On Easter, she gathered up her treats and spread them around the cities.
Now fortunately for Britannians, but ultimately unfortunate for Esther, the Easter Bunny made an appearance at the same time. Unbeknownst to Esther, the Easter Bunny had a standing agreement with the chickens to borrow eggs. This resulted in too many eggs being borrowed from the chickens this year.
The chickens became very angry. Their spokeshen, Cindy Little (of distant relation to the famous Chicken Little), demanded the eggs be returned. But little Esther no longer had the eggs! She had spread them around for everyone’s delight.
The ruthless chickens did not care. A stealthy team bunnynapped Esther and they are now holding her ransom for 2,000 eggs (the amount they approximate was borrowed). They are promising to harm Esther (possibly by turning her into bunny soup) if they do not receive the eggs.
A small group is planning to mount a rescue on Saturday, April 16, at 1pm PST. Will the citizens come to aid in the rescue? Or will they defend the chickens? Who is really the victim - Esther or the chickens?
[Everyone is welcome to participate on the side of their choosing. You will need to temporarily join a guild. Only attacks between pets will be allowed and attacks against either Cindy Little or Esther Bunny. Attacks on players will result in your removal from the event.]

The Moonglow Project: Blackrock Disaster By Chango

Time had finally caught up with Kronos and his Blackrock Detector. The city of Moonglow was crowded with onlookers as Kronos and his assistants, Melissa and Dexter, prepared to turn on the Detector.

Kronos:
It is with great pride that I stand before you today.
Soon, we'll be able to focus intense magical energy in a small confined space.
I postulate that every single piece of blackrock in the world will be made unto us!
Imagine it! Soon, we'll be able to gather all of the blackrock we want and...
Hop to it then, boy!
Did you seal the resonance chamber?
Did you double check the figures?
Bet Wis Ex!
As the crowd waited in anticipation, Dexter flipped the switch...

Kronos:
Uh...
We'll be a few minutes folks.
Well wait now! Come back tomorrow! It'll work tomorrow!
And with that, the crowd went away disappointed. One onlooker was heard saying, "Nobody even caught on fire!"
What a tough crowd, I tell you.
The next night, as promised, Kronos and his crew were once again ready.
Kronos showed up and began his final checks.

Kronos:
Is everything ready this time? Good.
Melissa was late, but she also made it.

Melissa: Did I keep you? I had some last minute business. Great.
She waved to the crowd that was easily double the size from the previous nights activity.
Kronos: I shan't keep you waiting a minute more.
Bet Wis Ex!

The detector started up and began producing a great power. many in the crowd grew nervous.

Something was going terribly wrong!

At first, it appeared we were standing in Moonglow and then the attacks began. We were being blindsided by Fetid Essence, Dark Wisp, and Fallen Warriors.

It was a slaughter! We tried to form some sort of organized resistance and had partial luck.

After some time we were able to clear some areas to regroup and think out our situation. It seemed we were in a mirrored rift of Moonglow. A globe of sorts.

All attention was soon focused at the detector where three great and powerful entities showed up. The Shadowlords.

Kronos and his mages appeared to be stopping them from accessing the rift caused by the detector. I tired to understand what was taking place...

The Shadowlords were talking to the mages.
SL: Pitiful humans.
Why do you resist so?
We are eternal.
Dexter: Master!
SL: We are patient.
We are stronger.
Listen to us
Kronos: Don't let them through!

SL: We mean you no harm.
Yet resistance will be punished.
Why do you fight?
Kronos: Hang on! The worst is almost over!
Just keep going! Help will be here soon!

SL: Let it go.
Melissa: Kronos,they are too strong!
SL: Free yourselves of your burdens
Dexter: Yes master
SL: Or die
Peace is with us.
Melissa: I'm ....I'm....
Dexter: Don't....!
Kronos: Melissa!
Melissa: I can't hold it.
Kronos: Melissa No!
SL: Rest now
You will know our strength
You
Die
The Shadowlord killed Kronos. The Timelord had arrived to assist in keeping the Shadowlords from leaving this plane, but Kronos was gone. Nothing could be done to help.
Timelord: From the shadows you came.. And to the shadows you shall return.

There was a big explosion and the Mages, the Timelord, and the Shadowlords were no longer present.
I took a few minutes to regain my senses. I exited the rift in hopes of clearing my mind.
The evidence of what took place was overwhelmingly obvious on this side of the rift.

My senses cleared, I headed back in to offer aid to those fighting the hordes still in the rift.
The armies in the rift were being dealt with until etheral forms of the Shadowlords appeared causing more destruction.
These forms of the lords, though weaker then their true form, were seemingly unbeatable. Somewhere, the idea of using blackrock against these lords started to be considered. Casting the Armageddon spell near these beasts greatly aided in their demise. Though the battles are being won, the war goes on.
New items have been found in this rift causing more confusion then answers.

And the most confusing are the threads of fate and life.

As I examined these threads, I felt them communicating to me.

I asked an old scholar friend for some help. He examined them but he did not feel the same as I did. We asked his pupil and he "heard" exactly what I did. It seems those who are talented in the Medium arts can detect this special force coming from the threads. Much to be learned, much to be discovered.
The battle within the rift goes on. I will bring more information as it arrives.
Until next time...
