Update on Oceania lag issues

We wanted to highlight the official replies found on uhall for the Oceania community here.

From Cal, UO Producer:

Last report is we have guys on the ground in Australia checking out the network.

In addition, there should be a post in the near future (in the next couple hours) about the status.

On a personal note, I was in Japan last week and we had some pretty productive discussions about our options for better connectivity for our folks on OZ (shard nomenclature for Oceania).

For right now we are trying to re-route traffic around areas that are causing the lag.

Do your best to hang in there, and we'll do our best to get you an update.

- C

and

I wrote in a separate thread about this.
We have gotten news from Net Engineering that the problems with packet loss should be resolved.

We will continue to monitor the problem, but from our side it looks like the problem is fixed. If the lag continues I'm sure you'll let us know,

- C

We will try to bring over any updated news on this issue for you.
Thanks all!

The Events Council of Oceania Scavenger Hunt
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, June 27, 2010, 4:52 AM EDT by Petra Fyde (Oceania)

The Events Council of Oceania is finally up and running with the successful completion of our Scavenger Hunt. A small but enthusiastic group assembled at ECO headquarters to receive their instructions.

Participants ready and waiting for the event to start

To register the contestants had to receive an ECO cloak made by ECO Scavenger and were asked to wear the cloak as they completed their tasks. To kick the event off the contestants were taken to the roof of ECO headquarters where they were given access to a wooden crate to obtain a book which contained their clues. Then it was pandemonium as the contestants scattered to all parts of the known world in search of their clues.

The hunt was to be completed within an hour and a half. Items could be gathered in any order and by whatever means was available to them. Some would have been stored in houses and castles, some had to be bought and others claimed as loot from creatures in the wild. The list was divided into three sections:

First section was a straight list of items.
Second section was a set of anagrams and riddles for the contestants to decipher
Third section was a mini quest.

Entrant receiving clue in the Third section: Mini Quest

The ECO library was constantly in use as was the airwaves of the Chat Channel. ECO members were on hand at all times and could be contacted via the Help Channel. During the Hunt ECO Headquarters was graced by a visit from EM Dexter, who called in to see how the event was progressing. Very pleasing indeed.

ECO Rune Library

As the closing time was drawing near, contestants returned to ECO Headquarters with their loot. The winner of the 5 million GP was Lord Ascot D'Scar who was very excited and surpised to win and receive his prize. All those who were in attendance at the conclusion of the event were given an entry into a raffle to be drawn at a later date - with 1.5 million as prize money.

The end of the event back at ECO Headquaters

The ECO Committee of management would like to thank both Isaac and Quinva for their generous donations toward the prize pool.

Thanks everyone, and we will see you all again when we host our next event.

Queer Eye for the Samurai In an age of neon hair, shapeless robes and two-toned pantaloons, crimes of fashion are being committed all over Britannia on a daily basis. Once again our anonymous stealth trained ‘fashion expert’ has reported in with his findings. Under his watchful eye did our fellow Britannia’s learn from his advice and remedy their passé ways? Witness the expert’s findings here, learn how you can replicate the look and join us in celebrating the truly fashionable souls of Sosaria! ToXeN Back in black! Vox Populi - Oceania Speaks
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Thursday, May 20, 2010, 7:47 AM EDT by Lady_Kat (Oceania)
Vox Populi - Oceania Speaks Lately there has been much debate regarding our shard; one question in particular that has been thick on the tongues of many citizens would have to be “Is Oceania on its last legs?” What more, is the very game itself dwindling away? Are the doomsayers correct? Or is the spirit of the community still alive and well? Are we really just a shard of Luna bank sitters or do people have other, more engaging pastimes? But not all talk has been negative, the recent introduction of the Abyss Housing and Ricardo quests seems to have drawn many 'absent' players out of their hideaways. Is this enough? What more could be done? Armed with a quill and several rolls of parchment I set off to Luna to put these questions before the player base, so all would have a chance to hear the voices of the people. How active do you perceive the Oceania shard to be? 40-50 active accounts. I think people are active, just because you don't see them in Luna doesn't mean they don't play. - Evolution Not very. Just a few wondering how many inhabitants will need to leave before we are permanently evicted. - Aerona I see people commenting on the forums 'The population is bigger than it was so many months ago' etc. I'm in two minds about this. In general the shard appears empty, but when the Ranger of the Abyss quest was operating everyone came out of the woodwork. I think Oceania's biggest problem isn't lack of population, it's lack of community. There is little/no community spirit present on the shard. - Vahran There are enough people, we don't need tonnes. - Kurack Inactive and quiet but more active than it has been for the past two years and on what seems a slight increase. There are quite a few key community members gone, which makes it appear more 'dead' than it really is. The few that tried to spark community actions. - Dain It's just right for me. Not too busy. - Thorn What is your favourite in game pastime? At the moment I'm enjoying having a look at all the new content. - Maelgwn Although they are fairly quiet these days, I enjoy the EM events. Other than that, I'm turning into a gypsy hunter. - Vahran Role-playing my old Orcish character. - Revolution Role play. But there are exactly zero role players about. The last major Role-player left for Baja. - Aerona PvP or solo PvM. Actually... I forgot that PvP doesn't exist anymore of late. - Dain Events where all players have to unite to achieve something. Be it a quest, monsters etc. It is probably the only time players are unified because everyone is playing for a common purpose. - Lady Aurora Have you participated in the recent Abyss Housing/Ricardo quests? What is your opinion of them? Abyss Housing: Yes. Ricardo: No. Not too bad for a MMO quest. A little better than "Go kill me ten of this!" or "Fetch ten of that! Take me to there!" - Evolution I have been following them, although neither religiously nor closely. They're good and certainly promote activity in game. B

Bowie’s look features: Cloak of Death Quiver of Infinity Age of Shadows Boots Scrapper's Compendium Hot Tips: Elven cloaks and hooded shrouds are fantastic for covering up possibly garish hats and headpieces. Solstice Tidings!

Posted on Monday, December 21, 2009, 3:14 AM EST by Shiel (Oceania)
Merry Meet to all on this, the Summer Solstice and longest day of the year!

In addition let me wish everyone all the joys of the Christmas season including a full belly, happy family times and that Santa brings you everything you could wish for.

I was just wandering in Luna.. and happened to find some unusual carrots so thought I would report these happenings to the general public.

As you can see.. we seem to have some sort of fey visitors... After following the trail for a short time I found the stag himself!

I did offer him a carrot but it seems he had already eaten his fill and was leaving them for us.
After wandering around Luna for awhile he led us up to Britain and around the bank..

Then through the gate to Felucca Britain gate and up to the town. In Felucca he dropped "Naughty Switches" instead of the carrots... and I got a reminder why I should check my bags and insurance before heading to Felucca.. *looks a little shame-faced* I'll be ready next time!

In good Wiccan/Celtic tradition I am wondering if the EMs will host a full festival... although the nudity might be a problem for some *grins wickedly*

So be on the lookout for the Solstice Stag with goodies for us! I have no idea if or when he will appear again...

Oh as a final note -

There seem to be some new tower like structures in Luna and in the barracks -

Perhaps a new event notification system?

I know things have been quiet on the EM event front lately.. perhaps we arent getting the messages about when they are? Hopefully this will change soon :)

Merry Xmas to all once more!

Shiel.

Alchemist's Alacrity

Posted on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, 6:34 AM EDT by Shiel (Oceania)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Join us at (the Barracks) on Wednesday the 14th at 7.30pm to help an old Alchemist. No skill required!

Such was the message Lucy had to offer us..

I waited at the Barracks for people to arrive. While I did a logbook caught my eye and I wondered whether the genie statue was safe. I also wondered who Watchman Calderon was.. and whether he would be available for an interview at some stage.. but that is a reporter's perogative.

Speaking of Interviews.. I should also corner our new Queen or the Gargish one at some stage.. royalty always makes for good interviews.. so it is said. I have officially asked for their comments - we will see how that goes.

Lucy greeted us and talked with us for a short while. She announced that the rewards from the last zoo food event will be placed shortly (after this event hopefully!) I am sorry that I missed that one..but for those involved it was so spoken :)

Tonight, an old Alchemist (slightly eccentric..) needed our help to mix his potions. Lucy gated us to the old Counsellor Guild hall at Serpents Hold, where the three Serpent Statues still stand vigil. The Serpent Temple in Tortoise Lagoon is still accessible too! You will need some passwords however.. I will have to dig those up for you (They are from an old event when Cerulean and Sienna were still around).

Barney the Famed Alchemist stood awaiting us - apologies for the lack of a screenshot of him personally.. it seems he is a little camera shy.
He explained the rules to us. The three contestants stand behind the benches. Then he places a book containing the potion ingredients in the box. Once he says go..

...we run and collect all the ingredients, add them to the pouch and grind the potion loudly! The first one to finish advances to the next round.

The first three contestants were Twinkle and Raven of EOB and Lord Vasagralem. They waited for their cue.. and with a go! they were off to collect the necessary ingredients.

When they were checked, Raven won the first round! The correct brewing for the Trinsic Battle Elixir! It contains no nightshade (Twinkle wanted to poison it!) and also needs ale (which Lord Vasagralem missed).
The other ingredients were:

The second round was for Cook, Illusionry of EOB and Lord Obsequious.
Illusionry was fastest making the Wrath of the Ferret!

Its ingredients were as follows:

The third round.. I got to compete! with Quinua and Smokeless Fire of (GawD).
We made the Charlatan's Blight potion!

Its ingredients were as follows:

Unfortunately, I was too slow.. Quinua advanced to the final from our round.

The three finalists waited nervously while the books were placed..
Raven, Quinua and Illusionry were the three..

The final they made the Zombie something potion!
Its ingredients were..

As they raced to the finish..

Raven finished first! Yet it seems it didn't quite mix right.. he had forgotten an egg and one nightshade..no tan for that Zombie..

Illusionry finished next.. but..

The winner was Quinua! Congratulations to Quinua!!
All present and correct!

After which we were all give Cloaks of Silence as Rewards. One more pic of us all wandering round in them hehe

Thank you Barney for allowing us to assist you!

and thank you kindly for the books so I could display all of the ingredients for the report (Im sorry for publicly announcing it all... but I am a reporter after all..)

The original books will go on display in the Oceanian Event Museum.

Keep an eye on the Pantomime Horse (Rewards Hall) in Malas.. we were told there will be an award there for Quinua.

I met Aeon and Vespera at the Homestead placing the zoo rewards after the event - they told me that only some of the awards have been placed because some of them were incorrectly labeled and needed to be fixed/remade. They say they will have them in place as soon as they can.

One more piece of news.. after receiving several requests for event notification in Luna, they are going to consider doing so. They have not confirmed this.. but hopefully that will happen for the next one :)

To close the report - a few pictures of Miss Echo's lovely winning design at Britain Bank. Well Done, M'Lady - it looks wonderful.

It seems that Lord Casca, Pretender to the Throne of Britannia, has decided to meet with Lady Dawn tomorrow evening.

Perhaps the short notice serves to stop us from rallying to attend.. I am certain that Lord Casca has few allies in Britannia these days..

I guess we shall see! I am certainly not missing a showdown between these two..

Treachery or Treason

Received from EM Aeon:

Her commanding violet eyes stared down at the figure slumped piteously in a high-backed armchair, her tongue clicking with impatience.
“You should be celebrating Viktor.”
Viktor Cotume’s eyes remained fixated on the cobblestone floor as he fingered the delicate craftsmanship of a luminous new sash sported over his dark tunic.
“I know…. But… did we really need to condemn him, Aezriana?”
Her booted heels impacted heavily on the uneven floor as she quickly covered the distance between them and placed a pallid hand to the side of his gaunt face.
“Look at me,” she breathed gently, her icy fingertips caressing his unshaven cheek as his sunken grey orbs rose to meet hers.
A vicious slap landed mercilessly upon his left cheek, his weatherworn skin splitting under the sheer force of the blow.
“You repulse me, Cotume!” she spat angrily “Our plans are fast coming to fruition and you sit here, wallowing in self-pity!”
“But Ellis… The Council is going to arrest him for trea…”
“Silence!” Aezriana hissed, raising her hand threateningly “It was a necessary ploy… and it worked did it not? Or am I mistaken in seeing ‘Commander’ printed upon that sash?”
Viktor’s gloved fingers resumed their idle toying of his glossy sash as Aezriana considered him with a bemused expression.
“Duffield sided with the enemy; he condemned himself without your aid! And after such actions of course Casca would reward you for your unyielding fealty and obedience!”
Viktor nodded, a small smile finally working its way across his thin lips.
“You are right my dear, I cannot blame myself… I have been promoted, we have the genie statuette… this truly is a time for revelling,”
Viktor made a move to get to his feet but a booted heel pressed firmly against his chest, forcing him to remain seated. Aezriana leaned in closely, grazing her lips with his and trailing her cold fingers across his armoured chest, pausing briefly to stroke his sash before bringing them to rest upon his thigh.
“I understand Viktor… Oh how I pity humanity, how difficult it must be… being a slave to your conscience,”
Heavy footfalls echoed in the room beyond announcing the impending arrival of…
“Lucy!” Viktor yelped, hastily pushing Aezriana away and clambering to his feet.
A fleeting devious smirk flashed across Aezriana’s lips as she dematerialized into the shadows just as the old ash door creaked open ajar.
“V…Viktor?” came Lucy’s timid voice as her pretty face peeked around the heavy door. “I… I heard voices,”
Viktor seized the door and pulled it forcefully from Lucy’s grasp “You heard wrong,” he snapped as the door slammed shut inches from the young Herald’s tear streaked face.

The plot thickens...

Duffield Defects!

Posted on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, 9:05 AM EDT by Shiel (Oceania)
>>> Malas News <<<After a long absence, the gathered Royal Britannian Guards were pleased to see Captain Ellis Duffield tonight as he joined us for an announcement.

"Greetings everyone...

The gathered people responded in kind. Viktor joined us walking in through the front door and rudely pushing past everyone to stand in front of Ellis. "Make way for the puppet!" DubZio voiced what we were all thinking..

"I've made up my mind Viktor." Ellis said, the resolve firmly in his voice.
"I wish you would reconsider, Ellis." Viktor replied.. obvious concern on his face.

"Don't you see? He must be stopped!"

"But he is the king! What proof do you have? Show me!" Viktor, also very strong in his convictions showed himself loyal to his station with his response. Perhaps we have misjudged the puppet?

"Hey Viktor, how close did you get to the traitor last week - I hear you nearly caught them..." Gandorf the Grey reminded us all of the Fandrel fiasco.. where Viktor did indeed fail to catch a traitor to the crown. Read about it here.

Ellis continued "I know in my heart it to be true."
"We have been over this, you have no evidence." Viktor stood his ground.

"Are you Blind Man! The Evidence is in the actions" DubZio replied. He speaks for all of us who were at the Luna invasions last week. We know that the King is not true to the realm or her subjects! How does he not see?

"This is treason! Knowing your intentions obligates me to arrest you! Dawn will be stopped, Ellis."

"I urge you, and you Lucy, to reconsider and leave the castle with me." Ellis tried.. to save his friends from the fate he knows will be theirs if they stay.

Viktor Cotume tried also, concern clear in his actions... He placed a hand on Ellis' shoulder as he spoke.
"Please old friend, I don't want to hang you along with Dawn."

Ellis angrily brushed it aside.

...He suspects me of treason too! I must go."

"Ellis.... please!" Viktor pleaded, concern in his voice. "I know the hearts of the Royal Guard present, they are not loyal to me." He looked saddened as he walked into the barracks, dragging his feet. He turned, as the doorwas closing and left a parting remark..
"You have the time from when I leave til I return with Casca's men. I am sorry"

Quickly!
Outside!
Outside!

Once outside, Ellis threw down his sash proclaiming his rank!

"We must leave! We must find Dawn! I wish to ally myself to her cause but I do not know where she is." once decided, Ellis moved quickly.

Daniella voiced a sentiment we all hoped was true.. "I know Fayaxion is with her. At all times." Just the thought of the Platinum dragon sends shivers down my spine. She is so beautiful.. powerful and our ally in this fight! We all hoped to see her again.

"You must help me looks for clues in Luna. I'm sure some scout has news" Ellis was decided on his course.

"Does she not reside in a cavern close to Luna City?" DubZio asked.

Ellis admitted he didn't know where she might be, but suggested that Luna would be a good place to start. He cast a gate for us and we all went to Luna.

We all spread out and began our search.

It was not long before Lyle was found atop the gate.

After speaking to Lyle, we decided to go and check out the cave. Ellis walked with us to the cave and gated us inside. We were ambushed! Several yellow skinned minotaurs and balrons! I know I was killed when one spawned right next to me! They were very difficult but we prevailed in the end!

After the battle, we were able to search around for clues. We found this journal, as well as several swords made by someone named Christopher. I have included screenshots of the pages as people are unable to enter the cave to look.

As you can see, the clues led us to Umbra. We searched for Christopher, finding him in the Blacksmiths, just to the North of the moongate.

A screenshot of his location taken afterwards..

From Christopher, we leanred that we needed to head to Verity Isle (Moonglow) to speak to a Professor named Nisaen. We found him in the Lycaeum.

He directed us back to Luna to a contact of his in the Luna Records office. His name was Thyme..

He was able to tell us the location where we could meet with Dawn.

After a short wait, Ellis joined us there and pledged allegience to her cause as he intended. We were all given Cloaks of Silence and asked not to publicise the password to her secret location. You will note I have kept my promise! You will need to go and find the password if you do not have it!

In the interests of security (Casca himself could be watching these news pages...) I would ask that no one else post the password either! We would not want to bring his wrath upon Lady Dawn.
