Book of Timelessness | |
| Posted on Friday, June 19, 2009, 9:18 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| from UO - Origin Events Fiction: Book of Timelessness Posted By EMLaurana on June 19, 2009 Donal the Monk, a human, was very keen on maintaining a peaceful alignment with the gargoyle race. He felt that humans could live even more prosperous lives combining aspects of both the human principles of Truth, Love, and Courage, and the gargoyle’s principles of Control, Passion, and Diligence. The gargoyles displayed a devotion to task and trade that was lacking in many humans, and though as a monk he felt enlightened himself, he thought it his role to enlighten those deemed capable of integrating these additional principles in their lives. Donal was working on a collection of wisdom called the “Book of Timelessness.” This book represented the gargoyle principles found in the Book of Circles, combined with the human principles. It was a work in progress, containing teachings that would help those familiar with the human principles to explore the gargoyle principles. Many gargoyles were cooperative with Donal’s peacemaking efforts, but some misunderstood the monk’s intentions. Donal has learned from young Raelyn McKie that there is an aggressive gargoyle in the woods. The area surrounding the Abbey is one of a peaceful relationship between the gargoyles and humans, so Donal is confused by the aggression. Your task will be to aid Donal the Monk in sorting out this misunderstanding. Meet at the Counselor’s Hall in Britain, Trammel for further details. Mother Clucker Rules The Roost! | |
| Posted on Thursday, June 18, 2009, 10:21 AM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| Who Rules The Roost Recap There was a light turnout for the chicken fight sponsored by EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan on Saturday, June 13. EM Laurana reviewed the contest rules for the three entrants. Due to the odd number of entries, there was a random number draw for a Bye and automatic advancement to the Second Round. Oriana won the Bye leaving Lady Anarion Seregon's and Sara's chickens to compete in the First Round. Initially the chickens were to be commanded to attack after a magic wall had dropped. This proved unsuccessful as the chickens would not attack each other upon command, even when guarding their trainers. After some experimentation and trial and error, it was discovered if while being guarded one player had flagged on the other, then both players attacked each other and then were immediately invised by the EMs, the chickens would battle. HenHouse Guard trained by Anarion Seregon won the first round. Round Two: a greater chicken trained by Oriana proved to be no match for HenHouse Guard. HenHouse Guard won the matches, and prepared to face Mother Clucker again. In the next match, Mother Clucker made a surprising comeback by barely defeating HenHouse Guard at the last moment. The first bracket winner HenHouse Guard and second bracket winner Mother Clucker were then called for the Championship Round. It was another either-chicken-could-win battle! Close to the end of the fight, Mother Clucker again rallied and was declared the winner of the round. Awards for the event were placed at the PvP House and at the Origin Awards Hall and Museum. Cap'n Lucky and First Mate Jack Hire New Crew | |
| Posted on Monday, June 8, 2009, 10:26 AM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| | Word got around that Cap'n Lucky was looking for a new crew to man his ships and would be taking applications on May 30th. Upon arrival at the PvP House, the applicants were met by a rather salty and cantankerous Cap'n Lucky who sent applicants upstairs where First Mate Jack was waiting. Then Cap'n Lucky joined us and explained why he was looking for a new crew. Cap'n Lucky Refusing To Say Cheese For The 'Camera' 'You appear to be a scraggly bunch but we'll see what you're made of. Me loyal mate Jack is the only man left from that last traitorous bunch of sea slugs I called me former crew! THIEVES! All thieves! Now, I enjoy a good spot of thievery myself from time to time. But, ya don't steal from yer mates! And never from yer captain! Da wretched bottom feeders stole me finest rum and been tryin' to duplicate the super secret recipe. Not that they have enough brains amongst 'em to bounce like a ball yer understand. Still, I want me rum back! And I'll be needing a new crew for me ship. O, aye, we've found where they've gone to ground like a bunch of barnacles not fit to be scraped off me ship and left to float down to Davey Jones' locker. Ol' Jack and me, we'll take ye there, and if ye be worthy, and perform yer task well, ye may yet prove yerself fit for me new crew. But don't think ye'll have an easy plank walk of it! So, here's yer task, if yer got the stomach for it. Jack and me found one of da ships where they think they secured the rum. Those twits couldn't secure a piece of gold in a strongbox. We'll take ye to da boat we found, but der be another boat missing with rum. You'll be given a uniform, put it on. When ye gets to yer boat, board up. Ye must find da oth'r boat and da rum, and bring both da bottles to me. If ye manage to find it and return me rum ye'll be fit to join me crew and have a golden ship sculpted and placed in yer honor, and ye'll be give a doublet crafted with me own hands in appreciation. I'll be waiting on me own ship for yer to return to me what is mine! But beware!!!! 'Tis been told dat de addle pated slugs been testing wat dey call 'rum' on the local wildlife with results dat were ... unfortunate. But enough of dis lolly gagging. Ye need to pick yer cap'n, should be someone who won't sail in circles. Ar! Ye cap't shall be identified with a cloak. Team Captain Serena Zephyr Alright, I be takin ye to da boat we found. Ye understand yer test? Find 'ze boat with ze' rum and get it to Cap'n Lucky! The applicants were then transported to their waiting ship, the SS Minnow, which was near the Ocllo Docks. It wasn't long until we encountered rum-crazed sea monsters that were carrying Experimental Rum Brew that momentarily tricked us ... This was NOT the real rum the Cap'n had us searching for. Captain Serena Zephyr did an outstanding job of keeping the ship on course while we fought monsters and searched for the boat with Cap'n Lucky's Rum. Once the ship with the Cap'n's rum was located, we grabbed the contraband out of the ship's hold, and headed back to where Cap'n Lucky and First Mate Jack were waiting for us. Upon being officially name a part of his crew, our initial uniform, doublets crafted by First Mate Jack, were replaced by doublets crafted by Cap'n Lucky. And crew captain Serena Zephyr received another cloak. An award naming the event and the team has been placed in the Origin Awards house. Thank you to EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan for such a fun event! We are looking forward to more pirate adventures! | |

Who Rules The Roost? Date and Time Change
| Posted on Monday, June 8, 2009, 7:07 AM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
from UO - Origin Events EM Laurana & EM Faine Morgan's official website Tame up your greatest chicken and pit him or her against your fellow Britannians’ chickens to find out who Rules the Roost on Origin! * The date/time for the Chicken Fight has been set for: Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 5:00pm Pacific, 6:00pm Mountain, 7:00pm Central, 8:00pm Eastern, 4:00pm Alaska, 2:00am Sunday in France Location: PvP Arena in Felucca - enter via the Vortex at the Buc’s Den entrance, Felucca Note: There will be NO PvP or player killing tolerated at this event! It must be held in Felucca due to combat restrictions in Trammel, but this is NOT a Human PvP event!! Players will pit their pet chickens or greater chickens against each other to fight to the death. - Anybody can tame a chicken (no taming skill required).
- Greater chickens can be tamed at the Jhelom farms.
- Bonded pets are recommended.
- To bond a pet chicken, tame one (greater chicken recommended). Then, buy some hay from an NPC farmer. (You can find them in Skara Brae, as well as other cities across Britannia). Feed the hay to your chicken. Then, go to the nearest stable and say the word “stable,” then target your chicken. Keep your chicken in the stable for 7 full days. After that point, go back to any stable and say “claim list.” This will show any pets currently in your stable. Pick your chicken to claim it, then feed it another sheaf of hay. You should receive a message that your pet has bonded with you, and the word “bonded” should appear when you mouse over your pet. If not, put your pet back in the stable and try again tomorrow. Once your pet is bonded, you can begin training it. We recommend using a bonded pet because if the pet dies, it will become a ghost and can be resurrected. If the pet is not bonded, it will suffer a more traumatic death - one from which it cannot return to life.
- Players can submit regular or greater chickens to fight (greater recommended).
- Fight bracket will be determined at random by the EM’s at the start of the event.
- Fights will occur at the EM PvP house in Felucca.
- EM’s will pull each competitor and their chicken into the ring at fight time.
- Players cannot heal or vet their pets.
- No use of peacemaking (neither area nor targeted).
- Professional veterinary services (heals and resurrections) will be provided after each fight for trainers that are unable to perform such tasks on their pets.
- A magic wall will be cast. When the wall falls, players command their chickens to attack the opposing chicken.
- Fighting will continue until one chicken dies. The last chicken standing is the winner for that fight.
- Matches will continue until all but one chicken is eliminated. The last chicken standing at the end of the fight Rules the Roost.
- Players may not kill other players or other players’ chickens (aside from the EM-sanctioned chicken fight) before, during, or after this event. Offenders will be immediately removed from the PvP Arena house and denied re-entry.

Team Orange - UO Chucks - Wins Naked Dungeon Run (With A Twist)
| Posted on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 4:45 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| Naked Dungeon Run (With A Twist) Due to an error in the posted event time, EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan held two dungeon runs on May 14 ... one at the published time, and another at the time listed on the EM Event lanterns placed around Origin. Run 1: We met up with EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan at West Britain Bank to be gated to an unknown location. This group was gated to Shame (Trammel), where the EMs explained the rules ... and the twist. The Rules: Start the dungeon run naked, but kill monsters along the way to build a full set of armor plus jewelry and a weapon. The Twist: After assembling the required items, find EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan somewhere out in the open within the dungeon. The EMs were concerned about the dungeon being hard on our feet, so furnished us EM-made shoes: Orange UO Chucks (named after Laurana's great great grandfather who had been a shoemaker for Lord British); and Pink Faine Air Jordans. After much discussion between Laurana and Faine regarding who makes the best shoes, a challenge was issued by EM Laurana: During the run through Shame, I was so busy trying to stay alive, kill monsters, and look through their corpses for armor, jewelry and weapons, I didn't get any screenshots. Once I had my armor set (or at least thought I had a full set), I set out in search of EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan. Running through Level 5 of the dungeon, I spotted a pair of EM-made stools and freshly caught fish and footwear. Soon the EM's appeared (they had been checking on the contestants) and informed me I was the first to find them. In checking over my armor, though, they noticed I did not have gloves. D'OH! I quickly found and killed a nearby earth elemental who just happened to have a pair of gloves for loot. Some of the sets of armor that were put together during the event: All contestants were located by the EMs and brought to the entrance again: At the bank, I caught Paplona cleaning death robes she had acquired during the run out of her pack. Run 2: Again, everyone gathered at the bank to be gated to an unknown location. This time the dungeon was Despise (Trammel). The rules and the twist were the same as the first run, and EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan explained the shoe competition. Again the EMs handed out shoes, equally dividing the teams, and the run was on! And again, UO Chucks Team Orange won the run! High Lighter was the first to complete his armor/jewelry/weapon set and find the EMs not far from the ogre lord island of Level 4 Despise. EM Faine Morgan will be wearing EM Laurana's orange UO Chucks for the rest of the month of May .. including to the May Events EM Meet & Greet/Q&A Session, Friday, May 22, 6pm Pacific, at the West Britain Counselors Hall; and the Pirate Adventure, Saturday May 22, Time & Location To Be Announced. Frenzied Fish Fest Participants Sight Strange Sea Creatures | |
| Posted on Monday, April 20, 2009, 12:03 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| | Frenzied Fish Fest Sunday, April 19, 2009 Lady Raelyn McKie was at Skara Brae docks greeting the anglers, combat support personnel for the boats, and spectators. Lady Raelyn, apparently bilingual, explained the rules and issued the warnings she had been hearing to Akr. Before the ships set sail, Lady Raelyn, who had grown up on the island of Skara Brae developing a deep understanding of wild animals and creatures, warned there had been rumors of unknown creatures lurking in the waters. She also cautioned that the creatures were reported to have the capacity to sense the combat capabilities of the personnel on the individual ships. With Raelyn's warnings in mind, we set sail aboard Ran and Frey Wavestrider's ship the Back One. While Ran steered the boat and fished, Frey and I kept a lookout for sea monsters. So wary were we, Lady Raelyn almost became a casualty the first time she popped aboard the deck of the Back One to the check on our safety and whereabouts. In our quest to help Ran land the biggest of Big Fish, we sailed well into the night. With only the dim light of the moon and the glow of defensive fields, we peered anxiously into the darkness, wondering with every splash of water hitting the boat if we had encountered some of the mysterious creatures Raelyn had warned of. Just when we were tiring and thinking the rumor of such creatures was just that .. a rumor ... the sea erupted with types of monsters none of us had ever before encountered. Time after time the monsters assaulted the crew aboard our ship. Fortunately, Ran and Wave have a sturdy, well-maintained craft that sustained little damage during the fray. The three of us were able to defend the ship, and help keep each other alive. Unfortunately, I was called away before Ran had pulled up a Big Fish. Being uneasy about the Wavestrider's well-being today, wondering if they had caught a Big Fish or had even survived the rest of the fishing trip, I checked the news on UO - Origin Events and found this headline: To read the entire account of the evening's events written by Raelyn McKie, Companion of the Wild, click here. | Now that Origin has the PvP House with Arena, EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan are planning a PvP Tournament. The following is the initial outline from their website UO - Origin Events, and they would like your feedback. Please do not post your suggestions, ideas, etc. here on Stratics ... Go to their website, emfainemorgan.com, and use the feedback link at the top of the pages. There's also an Origin PvP Tournament link at the top of their homepage. Origin PvP Tournament **Disclaimer - This is still a work in progress Look for the start of the Origin Tournament of Champions PvP Event to begin sometime the weekend of April 24th. More details will be posted as they become available. In the meantime, we wanted to post a general outline of how the event will run. Right now, we are thinking this will run weekly or bi-weekly with the championship being held quarterly. However, this depends on the amount of participation from the players, the number of entries, other events that may be taking place, etc. In between tournament times, we may run variations on the fights with possible team competitions, gm only armor and weapons, naked fights, etc. Brackets: - Mage

- Winners of the evening’s rounds advance each time resulting in the final Championship Fight
- If there is an odd number of contestants, one defeated fighter from a previous round will be chosen via a roll of the dice to play the odd man out in a wild card match
One set of “rounds” will be fought each week for Mage, Dexxer, Archer to determine the group to go on to the next elimination round. Three minute time limit on matches. If there is no winner at the end of three minutes, it will go to Sudden Death. No healing, no bandaging, etc. except for cure during Sudden Death. No orange petals, grapes, apples, etc. allowed No precasting Match ups will be determined by roll of the dice. Lady Taryn Sullivan Speaks At Clainin's Memorial Service
| Posted on Monday, April 13, 2009, 12:58 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| Lady Taryn Sullivan was among those who gathered at the memorial service for the fallen Archmage Clainin held at Castle British on Friday, April 10. King Casca began the memorial service with the following speech: “Greetings, citizens of Britannia. Our good friend Clainin passed on and gave up his ghost. And we will miss him forever. On this Good Friday, we gather in memory and honor of this good man. More than a good man, Archmage Clainin was a great servant to this land. A man whose magical prowess was surpassed only by his ability to bring peace and prosperity to all he encountered. My friends, my sadness runs deeply as I’m sure yours does. Your efforts to protect Clainin were valiant and fierce, as were mine. I did all within my power to shield Clainin from the evil forces of the Shadowlords. Our efforts were not enough. Still, Clainin’s legacy leaves a foundation fit to build upon. Ask not how did he die, but how did he live? To share some of this rich history, I present you Taryn Sullivan.” “It is with a heavy heart that I come here. I remember as just a small girl sitting quietly in a corner by the fire as my tutor Donal visited with Clainin on many a cold evening. For those of you not fortunate enough to know the history of this great, kind man, I’d like to share with you some of his history as research from his own records and journals and as told to me by my old tutor Donal. Clainin was chosen by none other that the Great Nystul himself to be his apprentice. In this role he assisted with the building of the detector near the barracks within the grounds here designed to aid in the defeat of Minax. Nystul left to travel the stars with our King … leaving Clainin and Dupre to rally the people of Britannia. It was at this time Clainin joined the Royal Council, serving it loyally and well all the rest of his days. In this role he forged the first Alliance. It was also around that time that the Commander of the Royal Guard was tragically poisoned, leaving Clainin to himself to lead the Guards in search of a cure. In defense of Britain he built a magical barrier at a dark time when Yew and Cove were already over-run by orcs and their kin. Unfortunately, this was sabotaged by an agent of Belo Ondarvia. It was at this time Clainin was instrumental in the unmasking of Ramuz the Shadowlord, and again led the Royal Guard, this time in Tokuno to meet with Inu the Crone. Inu and Clainin were in regular correspondence. It is with regret she must send her apologies.” Lady Taryn Sullivan removed a note from the pocket of her skirt, and began to read: “She writes: “Clainin was a brilliant man. He was at once open minded, kind, respectful and sensitive to the differences in our cultures. He will be missed by myself and the Empress. The meer have also sent their condolences from Ilshenar, as have the gargoyles of Ver Lor Reg.” After carefully refolding the note and placing it back into her pocket, Lady Taryn continued with her eulogy: “It was during the Blackrock explosion of Haven that Clainin entered the coma that all here will remember. A long decade it was without him to guide the Council. Events since his recent awakening have moved quickly. And the dark days we now find ourselves in have descended more quickly than we could have imagined. It was Minax’s faithful who slew him, finally receiving the revenge they had so longed for.” Frowning slightly, she continued: “However, it was not at their instigation this occurred,” her voice raising to a near shout, “but at the bidding of Melissa, Shadowlord and Servant of Nosfentor! There can be no doubt that both factions did receive their revenge for past slights. Even if not by their own hands, make no mistake who was behind this treacherous action!” Lady Taryn took a moment to regain her composure before continuing. “I am but a girl, raised by monks, and confused and saddened by all that has happened of late in our lands. My only prayer is that we never forget all that Clainin taught us and may we seek to live our lives in such a way that always honors his love of our lands.” Lady Taryn bowed her head then continued in a soft voice: “May truth guide his steps into the next life … May the Courage that never failed him in Life, continue to aid him on his Journey, and may our Love of this hero of Britannia carry him safely home. May his ashes that are spread in Trinsic bring Honor to the City of Paladins through Memory of his deeds in the name of Britannia. Finally, let the loyalty he showed to Britannia, our Home, forever live in your hearts.” King Casca stepped forward, thanked Lady Taryn, and turned to address the crowd: “My friends, now we see through a glass darkly, our mortal selves require closure, a return to the ashes from which we came. To this end, a memorial has been constructed in memory of Archmage Clainin. But do not weep at Clainin’s grave, for he is not there. His tragic end left not even a hint of a ghost, but his spirit of cooperation and good will remains. To Clainin — May his heart of gold inspire us always.” With head bowed, King Casca continued: ‘Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, so dawn goes to down to day. Nothing gold can stay.” Pausing for a moment of silence, King Casca spoke the words, “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust …”, as he led the mourners to the Memorial that has been placed in the castle garden, so that each could pay their respects to the great Archmage Clainin. | |

EM's Build Origin PvP Arena!
| Posted on Saturday, April 11, 2009, 10:24 AM EDT by Ghost Writer (Origin) |
Yeah I know I'm supposed to be retired but this one was too big to pass up. I went the Origin EM meet-n-greet last night to see what's going on with the shard events and to see if my story was good enough to win a local writing contest. At the end of the meeting EM Laurana told us they had a special announcement and EM Faine Morgan said she had one of her field trips to take us on. After several jokes about her field trips she announced a warning, this one was to Fel to show us her new PvP Arena. We were given a few minutes to collect whatever we needed for a trip to Fel, or in my case to leave at home everything I didn't need. Faine told us she would open a gate and on the other side we would find a red vortex, to go through it to our destination. An off we went. Ten of us came through a red vortex into a tunnel which we later found out is somewhere beneath the Lost Lands so transport spells such as Mark,Gate, Recall and Sacred Journey will not work in this place. The only way in or out is when the EM's open their vortex. There was nothing to see when we first arrived except a healer and priest, obviously placed there to resurrect those in need. We traveled a very short distance to find Origins PvP Arena. The first floor is simple, some stable for your pets, a center table with a book of house rules, and a row of empty stone tables intended to display future trophies to the winners of tournaments. The second floor is the arena itself, all entry and exit is controlled by EM Faine Morgan. The third floor is the observation area where you have seating to wait for your turn to fight and full view of the fights below. There are communications crystals in the house so you can easily hear what's being said throughout the house. Since the house belongs to EM Faine Morgan the EM's do have the power to ban anyone who breaks the rules. The rules are simple: - 1. No Looting.
- No casting outside of the battle.
- No killing outside of the battle.
- Stay in the observation area until your name is called.
Violation of house rules may result in banning from the house and forfeiting you place in the competition. I couldn't wait and said, "I want to be the first to Die in there." I saw a message on my screen "You've been transferred to EM Faine Morgan!" and Faine said, "come Ghost Writer". Next thing I knew I was being pulled through the half wall that surrounds the ring, and a call was sent out, "Who wants to kill Ghost?" Surprisingly enough there were only 2 volunteers and James of [CoM] ["R"] was selected to be my executioner. I attacked James so he needn't worry about getting flagged and was dead quite quickly after that. That's when we found a minor issue, the healers would not res me because I was flagged a criminal, EM Faine said she'd get that fixed. For testing the arena and being the first to christen it with my blood, James and I were honored with the first Book on the Trophy wall: Arena Now Open On Thursday, April 9th, in the year of our Lord 2009, this PvP Arena was officially christened when James of "R" killed Ghost Writer. James has the honor of having the first kill in the house while Ghost Writer has the honor of the first blood spilled! Welcome to all who come to fight (and die) here! So the obvious next questions were, how's this going to work and when is going to be open? Entry to the area is controlled by the EM's opening the vortex for us to even get in here. Once there the EM's can ban anyone from the house but they are relying us to behave and not give them reason to. This is an opportunity for controled PvP tournaments with bragging rights to the winner in the form of your name in a book or some type of named statue in permanent recognition on the trophy wall. I hope I'm the only one ever noted for dying there, that would normally be embarrassing to most, but I am most pleased to get my name in that first book and my blood the first spilt in this arena. I should be good at dying, I am a Ghost after all. The EM's said they plan to do all types of tournaments, one on one, pets, chicken fights, and I believe I heard teams but I'd imagine they would be small, this is house size. When? Em Faine Morgan said she'd like to get the first tournament scheduled before the end of the month! So keep an eye on the EM's web site for a date for the first Origin PvP tournament run by EM Faine Morgan and EM Laurana! Be the first to get your name on the first trophy. Oh I'll bet you want to see what this place looks like... Here is the first floor with stables, the rule book and trophy wall. This is the arena, notice no doors to enter. This is the observation area with seating. And the Rules. The first Death in the Arena. Well I better get back to the grave yard before someone notices I'm missing. Origin Award Hall and Memorial Gardens Officially Open
| Posted on Sunday, March 29, 2009, 10:21 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| Wednesday, March 25, EM Faine Morgan concluded the EM Meet & Greet/Question & Answer meeting with one of her 'field trip' announcements. The crowd hurried outside so as not to miss the surprise she wanted to show to us. EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan have built and dedicated the Origin Award Hall and Memorial Gardens, which will house and commemorate Origin's history, accomplishments and players. The roof features a Memorial Garden ... The EMs will be moving event and guest books from the Counselor's Hall to the main floor of the Award Hall, and adding other memorabilia over time. EM Faine Morgan expressed that she and EM Laurana hope to fill the building with Origin's history as we make Origin's history. Concerning Origin's past history, EM Faine Morgan stated, 'Anything we can learn to commemorate the past and put here, we will .. as well as the present and future. This is your house, the shard's house, if someone can provide runes to historical places, and/or write books explaining the places, guilds, people, etc. ... anything that makes (or made) Origin unique ... we can add it to the library. Laurana and I feel that you cannot truly know where you are going unless you remember where you have been. Origin is special, this place should reflect that and we hope it will. Plaques and statues will be placed over time, as mini events happen. EM Faine Morgan then declared the Origin Award Hall and Memorial Gardens officially open, placed a book and all present at were invited to sign the book before it was sealed. The Origin Award Hall and Memorial Gardens is located in Malas, south of Luna near the 'Crumbling Mountains'. | |

March 25 EM Question and Answer Meeting Transcript
| Posted on Friday, March 27, 2009, 12:41 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| Questions & Answers with EM Faine Morgan Wednesday, March 25 EM Hall, Britain, Trammel EM Faine Morgan: I did want to touch base with guys tonite. I have a couple of announcements and then a surprise. The floor was then opened to questions. Q: May I ask if all the cities are now safe my lady? A, EM Faine Morgan: All of the cities are now safe from the invaders, except Magincia. It still has the wandering souls and such. This brought up the suggestion of a dedication for the new bank design.. EM Faine Morgan: Aye, we need to do that now that Britain will be clear for it. Q, EM Faine Morgan: Did you get a chance to read the dragon fiction on the Herald? A: Most of the crowd answered yes. Q, EM Faine Morgan: Did it give you a feel for what is going on between the Crimsons and Platinums at all? A: Sounds like we may still have trouble with dragons. EM Faine Morgan: * nods * It sounds so. I can’t give you any direct answers about the event this weekend except to say, it ALL ties together if you’ve kept up with the fiction. I believe we are living in very interesting times. If you think back over the past few years, people were asked to choose. I think the time may come when loyalties will be tested. There is dark in the world, just as there is light … Some choose to walk in the middle of the shadows. Q: Then we will have to choose between good and evil? A: EM Faine Morgan: We were already asked one time to choose sides. * thinks of Andrew* Choices tend to have consequences, do they not? But, I’m excited to see options for all. Q: What if people don’t participate and stay here; will it cause more disaster? A, EM Faine Morgan: No one has to participate; no one is being forced to go to Fel, I promise. Q: They will be redoing it (meaning the Shadowlord Event) for everyone who doesn’t go to the SL event this weekend, right? Q, EM Faine Morgan: Redoing this particular event you mean? A: Yes A, EM Faine Morgan: Nay, not the same one. Others will have their parts to play as things unfold, that don’t necessitate being in a faction. Q: In other words, after this part there will be more happening here to participate in? A, EM Faine Morgan: Oh, most definitely! This arc will not end this weekend. I believe there is much to be revealed. Q, EM Faine Morgan: In reference to event notifications: How do you all feel about the notifications? Is it being published enough? Q: Do EMs have the capability to do system messages? A, EM Faine Morgan: That falls outside my powers, however, I can request a system message shortly prior. I will when possible for a system message. Q: Aren’t there fountains in Luna that used to change color when something was going on? A, EM Faine Morgan: Ahh, I’ll check on the fountains. In the meantime, what about this? When we know we an event is scheduled and have permission to release the schedule, I will do the following: - I’ll post it on our website
- I’ll lock down and light a pink lantern here with the info engraved
- I’ll lock down and engrave lanterns at Brit Bank and Luna, even if the lanterns just say to check here (EM Hall) for details
Q: What about notifying Felucca players? A, EM Faine Morgan: Good point. Would they be interested in holding a Meet and Greet in Fel? I am not at all opposed to going to Fel to meet. If there are disruptions, then we might not be able to continue, but I am willing to give it a chance. I’m also willing to NOT page, etc. if disruptions happen at the meeting, HOWEVER, if it becomes disruptive and pointless, we may not be able to continue them. Is that fair enough? I don’t expect everyone to like me or listen to me ... heck I raised teenagers! I don’t want anyone to feel left out. We’ll set something up next week in Fel, and give it a try. I would like to pick their brains for some Fel-based events. When I refer to Fel-based events in that manner, I am NOT talking about the story arc. EM Laurana and I want to run some mini events between arcs, and we’ve gotten some good votes from you guys, so we want to plan a variety … crafters, fighters, puzzlers, fishers, thinkers, etc … pirates is currently leading the voting, so I’m working on that angle. Okay, one thing I want to make clear about the mini events, and then I have something to show you. Any of the mini events will be for FUN, NOT items. I’m not saying there will never be items, but most of the time, NO. There will, however, be recognition. We want people to come to have FUN, not just for what they get. I love my pixels as much as the next person, however EMs are not item factories. We want to PLAY with you guys, and let you have some FUN! There is a time and place for items, and there is a time and place for sheer FUN and some silliness. NOTE: While EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan can and do read the Stratics forums, they can NOT reply on these forums. If you wish to have the EMs address a question or concern, please post it on their website in the feedback section. Q, EM Faine Morgan: Since Origin gets publishes first, I wanted to share something with you. You guys get to try out the new stuff first, yes? And, you find the problems, yes? Many times? Do you ever wonder about reporting those problems? What I want to share is what to do when you find them. Don’t just go and post them on the forums, and don’t just go and page a GM on them. They need to be submitted to uobugs@uo.com with as much detail as you can provide: How you did it, what you were doing at the time, exactly what happened when, where … anything and everything you can think of to tell them. They need to be able to recreate the problem to fix it. If they can follow your steps and make it happen, it’s easier to fix things. The worst, most aggravating are random bugs, but any and all information you can provide helps immensely. Like I said, just paging a GM or posting on the boards isn’t enough. Have you seen how fast posts move off the front page of Uhall? omg! Q: Will we be having any events at the fairgrounds? A, EM Faine Morgan: That I can answer, YES! There will be more I promise. I LOVE the fairgrounds. You do know they are open to the public? Q: Where is EM Laurana? A, EM Faine Morgan: She had another commitment tonite, and couldn’t join us, sadly. We were all startled when a surprise visitor, Mesanna, popped in and chatted with us for a bit. After Mesanna left: Q: Is Mesanna a GM or a Dev? A, EM Faine Morgan: No, Mesanna is not a GM. She’s my boss, in addition to one of the nicest people on the team. She hides Draconi’s lighters (thank God). Mesanna’s official title is Associate Development Manager (and EM Babysitter). EM Faine Morgan: As I told you for the mini events there will be recognition, right? We were all discussing how to accomplish this … a couple ideas came up. We debated a couple different towns and buildings, BUT many have history attached to them that we didn’t want to mess with. That sort of left a house of some sort, but that had its own problems … we didn’t want to take away from player housing areas … so, we came up with an option that I hope you guys will like …. * rummages * Field Trip! Note: The Field Trip is a story all unto itself … and will be posted in a separate thread.

Invasions End! | |
| Posted on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 12:49 PM EDT by Sara of Baja (Origin) |
| | The following is from EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan's website: Posted By EM Laurana on March 22, 2009 Congratulations, fine citizens, on your impressive defeat of evil this great day! At King Casca’s command, you cleared the path to the obliteration of the crystal - the source of the evil forces powering the invasions of Britannia’s great cities. King Casca would like to express his appreciation for your services this day, and to assure you that he will continue to fight to bring to justice any man or beast that does not walk a virtuous path in life. Blanche, Notary to King Casca This is indeed wonderful news! Congratulations, Origin! Now, what about those dragons? (Sara's note: Wonder what EM Laurana means by 'what about those dragons?' -- see the Crimson Dragon article From UOHerald News, and the UHall Crimson Dragon link at the end of this post.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As requested by King Casca, a crowd assembled at Empath Abbey, Yew, and awaited the king's arrival and instructions. Once King Casca arrived, he let us know why he had called for us, and prepared us for the ensuing battle. Although the Warriors, Mages and Tamers suffered many fatalities, the monsters were beaten back and the evil was destroyed, which freed our cities of the invasion that has plagued our lands. King Casca's speech following the battle was interrupted by the appearance of Syrak and Fayaxion, the Platinum Dragon, who had an exchange of words that left many wondering, what's next? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crimson Dragon Kilandra Cotten 23 Mar 2009 19:15:04 Some time ago… Taerlstratar looked intently into the shining orb he held with refined grace between two of his foreclaws. Despite being an immense creature his ability to move every muscle in his body with poise was unsurpassed, and holding the twelve inch orb eloquently was as simple a task as breathing. To himself he thought, “The Shadowlords will be the ones to do it, they are going back home. And I will go back as well; its past time to take my true place in the lands now called Britannia. Curse Mondain, foul little human. Perhaps, it’s time to kill them all.” While pondering the destruction of every human in existence, the orb changed its scene, shifting from showing an image of the works of the Shadowlords, to some of the younger looking Crimson dragons. Taerlstratar peered a bit closer into the orb, his large cat like pupils moving as if by command – fluxing out and then in slightly to get the best view possible from the small scrying orb. “The young ones… they too have a purpose for me.” Taerlstratar knew all too well the bloodlust that lingered in the hearts of the young Crimson brood; he also knew the lack of wisdom and restraint that came without years of knowledge and experience. Make no mistake however; the young ones were not simply mindless killing instruments. Young Crimsons were still smarter than any human, gargoyle, or elf back home. They simply desired the very thing that was their birthright – to rule the lesser species. The brood was too big now – a new home was needed, new conquests, new terrain – out of this endless void where Mondain had trapped them. Taerlstratar moved his massive wings out to their full length, a full hundred and fifty feet by human standards, stretching himself out a bit before returning the orb to its pedestal and collecting his legs underneath him. There was work to be done. Crimson Dragon Thread, UHall | |
