As the sun set in the Britain sky, a formidable army made ready for the journey to Trinsic with the king's gold.

From Britain the yells of the warriors could be heard, the air crackled with the spells of the powerful mages, the sky lit up with fire raining down and through the hands of the mages and the angry clang of steel banging off steel as a battle raged outside the city limits. The King's caravan is under attack!

I have teleported myself to the City of Trinsic and will await word of the fate of the kings gold and the warriors guarding the caravan.

At the top of the lighthouse, flanked by a squad of his loyal subjects fresh from the battle outside the Wrong dungeon, I met the leader of WAKA, Turbo Timmy.

WAKA is a formidable opponent on the field of any battle and against any opponent. "We will oppose the colonization of Sonoma by FL", said Timmy, "but we will rely on our own resources and are not interested in allying with any of the other Sonoma guilds to do so".

WAKA is a pvp, fel ruleset guild sporting 93 of its 120 members as veterans in its ranks.

The Keepers of Balance is are very diverse group of players who prides themselves in "new and interesting ways to die", says the leader, Dyvim Tvar.

When I asked Dyvim what was the most ineresting way of dying he had seen in the game was, he replied, "years ago getting a Barracoon and Semidar spawned up and getting them to fight each other." "But then we died to a raiding party and went down laughing the whole time because we got 12 scrolls and the raiders got 12".

When I asked Dyvim if he had any thoughts on the recent colonization of Sonoma by the Fallen Lords, his eyes grew cold and his face was whithout expression as he would only say, "yes, they [FL] are in trouble".

K-B recruits only players known to its current players, but as Dyvim says, "once you are trusted, there are no more issues".

THE SOSARIAN MAFIA-SM
Guildleader: Tempest
Size: 134 members, 110 veteran members (according to UO.com)
Primary playstyle: Champ spawns, peerless, pvp, pvm
Website: http://www.sosarianmafia.proboards83.com/index.cgi

"We have some really good players and I am always looking for more honorable players to add to our ranks", said the leader of the Sosarian Mafia while poised at the gate in Britain, one eye on me and the other on the smattering of targets running through and around the gate.

The Sosarian Mafia is a reasonably new guild in Sonoma, in existence for about 8 months and comprised of 110 Veteran Members. "We don't have the numbers to push FL back and hold a champ spawn against them", said Tempest, "but we have met them in other arenas and have done fairly well against them". However, Tempest also confided that, "we are making some preparations to be able to hold our own against any of the Fel guilds, including FL".

SM, like many other guilds, prides itself in having a "drama free" environment for its members, but as Tempest admits, "we are people and sometimes drama creeps into the game."

SM enjoys a wide variety of activities in the game, with members who "love peerless hunts", pvp, pvm and many other activities.

For a player looking for a more mature, rounded guild, SM may be a very good choice.

COLONY OF THE FALLEN LORDS-FL
Guildleader: Arycke The Red
Primary playstyle: PVP Fel ruleset
Size: 54 members, 39 veteran members (according to UO.com)
Website: none listed

The Colony of the Fallen Lords is a recent addition to the lands of Sonoma, which has made an immediate impact in the lands. According to the guild leadership, they are indeed in Sonoma to stay in order to "satisfy the lust for battle of their memebers".

As luck would have it, the same night as the interview with the leader of FL, I was invited along to cover their assault on the famed Harrower in the Wrong Dungeon.

I arrived at the entrance to the Wrong dungeon where it was lit up with the defensive paralyze and poison fields and the wizards of the dark magic casting wither, over and over again.

After being protected from the fields of FL, I proceeded deep in the dungeon, where the warriors and mages laid waste to the false harrower.

After dispacting the tennacles of the Harrower, the warriors quickly turned their attention to the True Harrower and with military like precision, laid it to waste.

However, the warriors inside were unaware of the battle which raged outside the dungeon.

And as the fallen were brought to back to the living and the landscape cleared, I could not help but wonder if this was just the beginning of many battles to come in Sonoma.

The King's Gold is no longer safe in Britain

As I ate my roast pig and corn at the Inn in Nujelm I sensed an air of tension amongst the other patrons. I looked around the room to see the cause of the tension; at the largest table in the room sat 15 of the King's Guard intently studying the parchment laid on the table by their leader.

The leader, a very large and imposing firgure, said, "The King's gold is no longer safe in the Bank of Britain since the return from the dungeon of V'ordin Blackheart, the most notorious brigand of the land". "We must move swiftly by caravan to the bank in Trinsic". "The caravan will be guarded by the King's Guard and there are none so foolish as to test its skill against ours", he proclaimed, and "the caravan shall move promptly night after tomorrow, so see to it that you are stocked and prepared for the journey." With a flick of his wrist, the dining hall became alive with the scurrying of waitresses and their helpers who set out a feast of roast pig and mugs of ale before the warriors.

I did not deem it wise to question the guard of their mission, for it is an important one to say the least.

Primary playstyle: PVP, fel ruleset

"We are recruiting honest killers", said the guildleader of COP at his guildhouse. COP is a native Sonoma guild which primarily plays a Fel ruleset pvp style and may be found fighting at the Brit gate almost anytime, day or night. COP prides itself in being a tight knit guild who enjoys a drama free environment for its members.

"I believe in a democratic guild", said Beastmaster, and "if the members of COP want us to ally in order to push back the colonization of Sonoma by FL, then I would be willing to sit down with the other Sonoma guilds see what we can do", he said.

COP appears to be the type of guild suited best for the pvp'er who is looking to improve and take on more of a challenge in the game. Make no mistake, however; this is a pvp guild which seriously likes what it does and is proud of its heritage and base roots in Sonoma.

Can it be true. Is there evil afoot with the gypsy camp in Ilshnar Compassion? I received information from Dyvim Tvar, a very reliable source who asked me to accompany him and Slayer, one his trusted subjects, to the camp to investigate the stories that the gypsies are planning to launch an attack of gigantic proportions on Sonoma.

We arrived at the camp and this is what we found.

That's right citizens of Sonoma, it appears the gypsies are secretly bringing in catapaults disguised by their wagons to do Sonoma harm. be on your guard.

I had a very nice conversation with Melchoir at the OSG guildhouse. "We like to take the returning players into the guild and help them out", he told me.

OSG's members enjoy a varitey of PVP and Peerless hunts and are each formidable opponents on the field of battle.

OSG is taking a "wait and see" approach to the recent colonization of Sonoma by the Fallen Lords. "There have been many bridges burnt in the past between the other Fel based guilds", Melchoir told me, and "I am not sure if they can be repaired to unite and repel the colonization", he said.

If you are a new returning player who likes to PVP, you may want to contact one of the OSG members.

As I read the parchment paper addressed to me from Piotr, the famous and sage news manager for Stratics, my hands trembled, "You have been hired as a news reporter for the land of Sonoma" the words blurred as I read them over and over. "Could it be?", I mused. "A mere apprentice mage chosen for such an important assignment?" "Father, father, I have been chosen by Stratics to go to a land called Sonoma to be a news reporter of the comings and goings of its citizens", I exclaimed.

"Be cautious my son", my father warned through his stern gaze. "Sonoma is a lawless land full of bloodthirsty, reckless and dangerous killers who have no loyalty to any but themselves", he said. "You would be wise to remain here and continue your studies with the Wizard Legronde Willowwhisp, for high elves should not concern themselves in such matters". "Surely there are those in Sonoma who have honor and all cannot be of that lot father", I exclaimed. "You are young and innocent my son", my father said, "I fear I have taught too well to look for the good in the souls of others, and now it well may be to your peril". "But I have been trained well in the art of magic and I am ready to put my skills to the test father", I replied. "Be weary my son, for your skills are no match for the wizards of the dark magic, the wizards who use their magic in battle and for the warriors who will simply shrug your spells off like the wind in their hair", "Sonoma is a world that is not for the weak of constitution", he exclaimed.

"But I must go to Sonoma father, I have given my word to Piotr", I said firmly. "Very well, my son", knowing he could not change my mind, my father handed me a satchel bulging with leather armor, a staff, a pendant, a magical ring and bracelet, some gold coins and a gleaming shield. "Take these and guard them my son", said my father, "For this is all I can give you to help you in your journey".

I quickly dressed in the items and armor given me by my father, feeling like the most powerful wizard in the land, rather than the apprentice mage I was. On unsteady feet I walked to the crystal ball and sent word to Piotr that I was ready to travel to my new assignment. "Be well my son", my father whispered as the air crackled with the powerful magic, translocating me to Sonoma and my new adventure.

I arrived in the town of Britain, where the air was dank and heavy. I quickly gathered the books of locations given me by the Stratics staff, anxious to begin my travels. "Kal ort por" I chanted touching the magical rune labled, "Brit gate-Fel".

I appeared with the blue moongate behind me and the form of a formidable and seasoned warrior was blurred by the morning sun. "Good day kind sire", I greeted him. Spankalicious [MOO], his war axe and shield gleaming in the sun and the blood of those who challenged him, smeared on his armor looked blankly in my direction without emotion. "A slow day here today", he mused. "Are the fighters all still sleeping?", I asked, sounding more like a child than a man of 117 years. "More than likely" he said, all the while scanning the terrain for an unseen threat. I told him of my purpose in Sonoma and over the sounds of thundering hooves, he muttered, "good luck" in a tone so cold that it made me shudder from the deepest recesses of my soul.

From what seemed out of nowhere appeared two young warriors with eyes of steel and dark stares that would wither the most vibrant foilage. They were both murderers of some notoriety sporting blood on their armor and a darkness in their souls easily observed. Before I could muster the courage to tell them of my purpose in Sonoma, Hypnotic (COP) attacked and reduced me to ashes at his feet with no effort and well before I could summon the assistance of the Royal Guards. "Game over, game over" Hypnotic exclaimed as I fell to the ground. I quickly found a kindly wandering healer named Tamara to be revived and hurried back to the pair, intent on explaining to these warriors that I meant them no harm, but was in this land to report the news. "Surely they will understand", I thought to myself. As I began to dress and muster the courage to speak, SixSixSix [COP], the second warrior laid me to waste with a gentle flick of his wrist, draining the little bit of life I had regained. "Game over, game over" again screamed Hypnotic.

I found Tamara again, was revived and made my way back to the Inn at Britain to meditate and formulate a plan for the 'morrow. Since my welcome to Sonoma, I have met some of the leaders of the land and will report my conversations on the 'morrow.

I look foward to meeting and talking with all the citizens of Sonoma. If you see me, tell me of your travels and tales.

Sonoma Targetted for Colonization

>>> Felucca Facet News <<<"Scuse' me, mate..." The deeply tanned man gruffly grumbled as he shuffled past me at the bar on his way out. "There's a man in da back... that wants'a speak wif' you..." *hic* I nodded my thanks as the drunken farmer stumbled out the door and into the cool, early evening air. Sadly, the stench of rotgut wine on his breath did not make as quick a departure. I spun on my stool towards the back of the tavern to see a pair of dark eyes peering out from beneath a shadowy hood. I finished my ale, ordered another from the haggard bartender and approached the back corner cautiously.

We sat quietly sipping our ales for a few moments before he finally broke the silence. "I am told you are one who deals in... information?" I merely nodded and met his gaze. "And you have connections with the various news gazettes and journals?" Another nod. Satisfied, he continued,"I do believe I have the story of the year for you... News of a great movement." His lips split into a grimace at this, a gesture that I could only assume was an attempt at a smile. "I would tell you all about it, but I think it's best I show you instead. Come along, we don't have much time, though we have far to travel..." Abruptly, the hulking man rose from the table and made a beeline for the door. I was far too intrigued to object and hurried after him, only briefly regretting leaving my half-full ale behind. As I emerged into the waning light, the mysterious gentleman turned in his saddle to look me up and down. "Your insurance is paid up, right...?" The heartiness of his laugh should have reassured me, but the glint in his eyes convinced me otherwise...

*****

After a short but disorienting journey, we arrived on the shard called Sonoma. I had not made a such a trans-shard journey before, but fortunately it was rather painless. Apon arriving, my companion murmured some words of power and opened a portal from a rune in his pack, through which we passed into Feluccan lands. A giant stone structure loomed before us in which dozens of people were milling about, strapping on armor and stuffing various items into packs slung on their backs. I turned to ask the mysterious gentleman what they were preparing for, but before I could speak, he lowered his hood to reveal a visage of stark and hardened, yet noble features. As he did so, a glint of light on his finger drew my attention to a golden insignia ring. My eyes widened in recognition of the stylized monogram. He looked me straight in the eye and with that same grimaced smile spoke his first words since leaving the tavern on Pacific...

"Welcome to the newest colony of The Empire of the Fallen Lords... Tell anyone else where we are, and I'll gut you myself." There was no malice nor even a hint of threat in his tone... merely a promise. I nodded a silent agreement, acknowledging the fact that I had come too far now to turn back. It was then that the Fallen Lord bestowed upon me the Fallen Lords banner and tag.

"This will keep you from safe from accidental harm by our spells. Of course, nothing will keep you safe from intentional harm... see to it you give none of us reason." He brusquely turned on his heel and I and fell into step behind him as he entered the stony keep. I recognized a fair share of the grim faces in the stronghold from our home shard of Pacific and yet many more were new to me - members acquired in the Empire's voluminous travels.

"So is this FL's 'World Tour: The Sequel'?" I quipped as we passed a group of mages frantically grabbing reagents and stuffing them into pouches and bags.

"Let me be perfectly clear. This is not a tour..." he grumbled over his shoulder at me. "For better or worse, we are here to stay." We arrived at two enormous iron doors which swung easily outward on well oiled hinges. "Our assembly hall. The rest will be joining us shortly." His gaze flicked to a tinkered clock hanging on the wall. Mere minutes before midnight.

From here on, everything was a blur... Last minute preparations and checks were being yelled out by commanders and battle leads. Gear was checked and rechecked. Supplies were crammed into packs in anticipation of a drawn out fight. Suddenly, flickering red portals began opening up all over the keep and the Fallen Lords began streaming through. "Try and keep up," were the sponsor's parting words as he too charged into a nearby gate.

We first charged thunderously into the Fire dungeon and from there took the teleporter to the Dungeon Despise. I was most impressed by how quickly and orderly the Empire moved as one solid unit from location to location. No one was straggling behind, no one was haphazardly rushing ahead. There wasn't even any pushing and shoving at the teleporters... Frankly, I expected less civility from this savage group.

It was mere seconds before the first victim of the night took a dirtnap... Ahh, to have seen their expression when 50 or so Fallen Lords came galloping down on them at full speed. Several other unsuspecting spawners met their untimely demise shortly after. Again, I was amazed at how quickly the guild reacted and moved as one, each with their own role.

The Champion's island was sealed off from potential intruders in the blink of an eye and the Champion of the Vermin Horde, Barracoon never had a chance.

A horn sounded and the Empire made their push into the Star Room, securing it in a flash. The Fallen Lords paused briefly to see if the native Sonomans would challenge their attempt to summon the fearsome beast known as the Harrower. When no opposition came, the Champions' skulls were mounted into their places.

The Harrower spawned in the depths of the Dungeon Deceit. The first to arrive set up a perimeter as the first line of defense in the anticipated battle to come.

Just inside, another surprised victim was quite literally run down and run over by the marauding Fallen Lords on their way to set up and secure the Harrower.

The designated spawn kill team worked quickly to bring down the tentacles and harrower to reveal the true harrower's form.

Meanwhile, the team in charge of keeping would-be raiders at bay were doing just that. A few halfhearted attempts at a push were made by various kamikazes to no avail.

It was on our way out, after having secured the Stat Scrolls safely, that we discovered the natives had finally risen to the occasion with an assembly of members of various guilds. There was simply no stopping the Empire, however and this cursory force was quickly slain.

It was at this point that word came from Pacific that attempts were being made in FL's absence to run a few spawns. A small, elite group was dispatched to handle it whilst the rest made ready for Harrower #2...

This time, the Harrower spawned inside the dreaded Terathan Keep, site of the eternal struggle between ophidians and terathans. While all the same steps to secure the immediate area against a raid were followed and the same teams set up as before, the native Sonomans had taken advantage of the distraction on Pacific to spread the word and amass a stronger force, consisting of mainly COP, WAKA, and MOO. They put up one hell of a fight.

Persistence prevailed at first and the Sonomans began to edge closer and closer to the harrower's location.

Experience and teamwork won in the end, though and the Fallen Lords began to not only regain lost ground, but managed to surge forward to break the enemy's ranks, forcing them back into the Champion's area.

Eventually, the battle was taken to the bridge and down into the Star Room where the remaining natives staged their final stand. Alive one minute...

Gone the next... I believe it is safe to say, the Fallen Lords have made quite the entrance on Sonoma... Time will tell when, and if, they make an exit.

*****

After the battles had at last subsided, I dragged my bone-weary body back to the Empire's Colony stronghold where I bid my gracious hosts adieu. Upon my return to the Pacific, I made a quick stop at the bank to unload what little loot I had time to grab in the skirmishes. As I stood sorting my items, a short troll of a man elbowed his way past... Recognizing him for the clumsy amateur that he was, my hands flew to the pack at my side to see if he actually managed to grab anything. Much to my surprise, instead of missing something from my possessions, I discovered I had indeed gained something... a tightly rolled parchment scroll. I spun around but he was nowhere to be seen. As my hand closed around it to draw it from my pack, my fingertips brushed against the wax seal and I instantly know from whom it came. The quality of the parchment and the embossed seal were all too familiar... I held my breath as I broke the seal and unrolled the parchment...
