Spinning a Golden Yarn, written by Elder EM Dudley
[Original Link]

The dust settled into his nostrils, the tickle made him sneeze. His face was throbbing and a sudden feeling of cold flashed his senses as he lifted his head from the mud. He could feel the anger within him. What had he done to deserve such torment?

He was awoken to the frightening reality of his surroundings. How long had he been out? No matter, he thought. As he regained his bearings he made quick sure to set eyes on the chest. There it sat however, reassuringly within his reach. He began to scan his entire person. His clothes didn't seem in too terrible shape, he was quick to avoid taking fire during his most recent foray. He could tell daylight was near and he'd have to keep moving. This was the most important leg of his journey. He was so close now. As the sun began to breach the horizon he collected his affects and continued on his way...

When the Bell Tolls

My condolences on your...Marriage. As our Month of Love comes to a close, I have decided to cover something that is of great fun in the Role-play Community. Weddings are an ever growing trend among many MMO’s, Ultima being one of the first to present such a medium to its users. Many cannot deny the fun in being able to put on an event, which allows you to customize, what is worn, to what the guests are served. Location, Décor, Dress, Officiators, and Character Traditions, these are the things that bring an Ultima Online Wedding to live.

Locations

Click the image to open in full size.
Many popular Locations exist for weddings in Ultima, the list is somewhat endless. While I could never list them all, below is a list of a few popular Role-play choices I have seen over the years. However never be afraid to step outside of the box and host a wedding in any spot that makes special Role-play sense to your characters.

  1. Yew falls (Shown above)
  2. Out at Sea (now that boats are so large and beautiful, out at sea with a good captain is a great idea.)
  3. Umbra City (Have darker characters looking to get hitched? I have seen some beautiful weddings presented in the heart of Umbra, complete with body parts and bones for décor.)
  4. The Hidden Beach (Lenmir) in Chaos Ilshenar. (While this is quite a dangerous run for your wedding guests, this secluded and beautiful beach is home to a gorgeous tropical setting.)
  5. Terort Skitas, near Valor Ilshenar, is a beautiful spot. However if you don’t want to send your guests thru dungeon below there is a spot that you can teleport to by handing out teleport scrolls to your guests.

Décor and Dress

Click the image to open in full size.

Depending on the type of characters at play here, and your location there is a multitude of customizations you could add to the ceremony. Flower petals, colored benches, food, gold coins, jewels etc. Dress is another fun thing to coordinate, from the colors the bridal party will wear to the decoration colors all of which add a sense of realism to your role-play event.

Officiators

Click the image to open in full size.
This can often be the most important touch to a role-play wedding. Who to officiate over your role-play wedding is a big decision. Whether it is someone you respect , someone playing an officiator specifically for your event, the leader of your guild, or last but not least an EM, any of these are good choices. If you do choose to contact an EM thru your shards EM Website, be prepared to have the following details ready for your EM.

Information to include:
  • Player names of bride and groom
  • Possible locations you have in mind
  • Any information on how you would like the ceremony to proceed
  • Possible inscriptions on the wedding rings (these can change up until the date or close to it)
  • Dates you are considering (please give us a week's notice so we can make arrangements)

Traditions

Traditions are an important thing to consider, based on the Location you choose, and the characters you are portraying. Give great thought, do some research, and find out what traditions your group and your character would most likely be following. Adding a ceremonial instance into the event will add meaning for you and your guests.

Reporters Note: Don’t forget the reception spot, whether you include it at the same location or change spots. Just remember the most important part of an Ultima Online Wedding, is to have fun!

[Report] Underground Graves Found In Yew (Sunday 27th)
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, February 27, 2011, 2:07 PM EST by Mapper (Europa)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<

A large crowd gathered at the Counselor's Hall in Britain, Personally I was a little worried for Nathan as the clock closed in at 8 o'clock.

To my surprise, Nathan arrived on time and began like any other day.

27021101.jpg

Quote:

Nathan Hawke: "I dare say myself and Fynn will try our best to keep the Kingdom together."

Tonights mission would be to travel back to Yew and check on the status of the plague.

27021102.jpg

27021103.jpg

At Yew the Royal Guard met up with the Guardsmen Militia at Stonekeep.

27021104.jpg

Nathan then gated everyone to another part of Yew. In the area were several memorial stones sticking out of the ground, as well as a very out of place stone column.

Quote:

Nathan Hawke: "Normally at this point we ask Madsen to blow things up, But this time we aren't going to do this. And you will like this."

Quote:

Melissa: "Push it over?"

27021105.jpg

27021106.jpg

And with that Nathan asked everyone to gather on the east side and to push with all their might!

27021107.jpg

Finally the column moved, revealing a deep hole, Which the Royal Guard quickly jumped into!

Inside a warning was posted at the entrance of several long caverns.

Quote:

"If you are reading this you will have triggered the alarm to my underground lair. You will die and be used in my experiments."

27021108.jpg

27021109.jpg

The caverns were filled with more gravestones, as well as coffins and undead. The undead appeared to be people from Yew's past.

27021110.jpg

At the very end of the caverns a dead end, Reports of a Mysterious Figure behind the wall quickly spread.

Suddenly the wall opened up and inside were cows and rats, as well as a book on a table which spoke about how the Yew plague started by an experiment with Rats and Cows and that a cure is the Serpentwyne. (I forgot to get a copy of the book, Sorry.)

27021111.jpg

At the back end of the room an exit was found and Nathan asked everyone to meet him Monday 28th at 8pm in the Counselor's Hall where what was found would be discussed.

As a final word, I don't want to talk about the entire 'problem' but I will just include this.

[EM Event] Goodbye our Sweet Queen

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<
As dusk approached the land of Sosaria I found myself roaming around Yew waiting for the people to arrive for the funeral of our Queen. I had not been in these parts for a long time. I had forgotten how beautiful it was here and how incredible the sight was of the trees in Yew. The sky was clear and the breeze from the water on my brow was very refreshing. Today was a perfect day for this memorial service….so I thought!

Click the image to open in full size.

The notion of attending this funeral was weighing heavy on me and memories of my parents passing filled my head. The door of the empty hall then opened and Queen Mum entered the room. Seeing her friendly smile eased my mind of all the sad memories. Then solemn long faces of citizens from the land started to pile into the room, and the silence was deafening until Sherry the Mouse arrived and began to speak.

Click the image to open in full size.

Sherry: This is a sad day for our people. I know we are all filled with grief. Not long ago, we had hopes that Clainin would recover and lead our people. When Casca saw to it that Clainin would never lead us, I along with others encouraged Lady Dawn to pick up her sword again and lead us in battle. She seemed happy. Ors, her husband, and she tilled the soil, they sowed seeds for their future, and they were rewarded with good crops. But we had a greater need for her abilities.

Sherry: We needed someone who was competent with a sword as well as intelligent. We needed someone who could negotiate with the Gargoyles, the Meer and the Empress of Tokuno. So Dawn left her warm, comfortable farm and came to our aide. When we asked her to lead us she accepted. We placed the circlet on her head. This was years ago. It was made of fine gold and had rubies and diamonds embedded in it. It did not seem heavy, yet the weight of it kept Queen Dawn up many nights.

Sherry: Dawn led us against and helped us defeat the Crimson Dragons Melissa, Casca, Andrew. I saw Queen Zhah meet with our Queen the night before our Queen decided to imbue her weapon. Often Queen Dawn would have dignitaries meet her privately and they would discuss tactics into the early morning….

Then out of nowhere the darkness of a foul stench and a loud booming voice sent chills up our spines.

Click the image to open in full size.

Virtuebane: I WANT THE CRYSTAL!

Virtuebane: *points to Ricardo*

Virtuebane: YOU!

Virtuebane: I know you have it!

Virtuebane: One of my Chosen told me. Time to die!

Ricardo: *spews blood and dies*

Virtuebane: *takes the crystal*

Virtuebane: *evil grins* My Chosen serve me well.

Virtuebane: The crystal is now mine.

Virtuebane: And now for the sword!

Virtuebane: Who has it?

Then the battle ensued and the crowd was frantic as some scrambled for the door while others drew their swords to engage the foul beast. Bodies of the citizens began to pile up and the healers worked feverishly to bring them back into the mortal world in order to fight again

Click the image to open in full size.

Virtuebane: I will ask you once more.

Virtuebane: Where is the sword!!

Virtuebane: The Bane chosen are prepared

Virtuebane: to slay any and all who

Virtuebane: try to test the worthless humility sword.

Virtuebane: One of you is hiding it.

Virtuebane: Bah! You puny mortals have wasted enough of my time

Virtuebane: My chosen will destroy you! Finish them!

Click the image to open in full size.

Then the onslaught of Blackrock Golems descended upon us. The fight began in the hall and quickly moved outside. As we defeated one Blackrock golem another appeared to replace its fallen brother. Our heroes were becoming weary and the mages and healers were almost spent. It seemed as if this battle would never end but finally the last golem fell to its demise.

Click the image to open in full size.

Daniel Ravens who was exhausted from the battle regained his strength and instructed us to follow him. It was time to put to rest our fallen Queen.

The final resting place of our queen was beautiful. The entombment was located on a small peninsula overlooking the deep blue waters. The crowd who was weary and tired stood still and listened to Daniel as he spoke in tribute of Queen Dawn.

Click the image to open in full size.

Daniel Ravens: My Queen

Daniel Ravens: On the night before this tragedy

Daniel Ravens: I spent time and had tea with

Daniel Ravens: my dear friend. Dawn.

Daniel Ravens: Not the Queen,

Daniel Ravens: Not the fighter

Daniel Ravens: a friend.

Daniel Ravens: *chokes back a tear*

Daniel Ravens: She spoke of her concern and love for Ors,

Daniel Ravens: why he had not been found.

Daniel Ravens: She knew I was looking for him.

Daniel Ravens: How she wanted to lead a search for him.

Daniel Ravens: but she had a duty to lead her kingdom

Daniel Ravens: and eliminate the oppressive foe,

Daniel Ravens: and there she died by her husband’s hand.

Daniel Ravens: *sniff*

Daniel Ravens: compelled by Virtuebanes spell.

Daniel Ravens: Dawn was my queen and your queen.

Daniel Ravens: I was never one for pompous royalty

Daniel Ravens: Dawn was humble.

Daniel Ravens: She acted without bragging of her accomplishments.

Daniel Ravens: In the end

Daniel Ravens: We let her down

Daniel Ravens: We did not guard her well when

Daniel Ravens: she was preparing her sword.

Daniel Ravens: So Now I say good bye to two long loved and trusted friends.

Daniel Ravens: Ors

Daniel Ravens: and Dawn

Daniel Ravens: Ashes to ashes

Daniel Ravens: Would any of you like to say a word?

With that the folks of Sosaria began to pay their tributes and placed flowers at her grave…there was not a dry eye among the viewers and I could not bring myself to look down at the freshly disturbed soil. For in doing so would bring back heart breaking memories for me.

Miri: She is in the arms of the angels now.

Rei: I will miss her.

Kupoking: Let your memory live on as British does within our hearts.

Queen elf sandy: I didn’t know her well but she was our queen.

Kryechton: From humble beginnings, she became a beacon for us all now. Let her light shine in our hearts forever more.

Stavros: May the light you have shown us live on through the memory we carry of thee.

The end of the ceremony saw Daniel kiss his finger and place it on her grave. He then vanished into the forest. The rest of us just stood there. Mournfully silent the people placed more flowers and began to leave the resting place one by one. Finally all that was left was our Queen and the beautiful peaceful view of Yew for eternity.

Queen Dawn Disrespected at Her Own Funeral Service !

Queen Dawn Disrespected at Her Own Funeral Service !

One would think seeing the heads of Philip Stafford, Royal Spy Cole, Maggie The Red Pirate and King Consort Ors on poles in the City of Brit the citizens would be more respectful at the funeral service for our dearly departed Queen Dawn.

It is true, Queen Dawn was no fashion plate. She may have lacked beauty, style, lavish jewels and pretty frocks but she did care deeply for her people.

Arriving early to Brit Castle a small group had already gathered including Tanda, Rascal, Xevei, Doomsday, Michelle, Jessie Slaughter, Galen, Lady Mai, Perrin and Lady Martyna Z'muir.
The first thing I noticed were the lovely flower donations for the service. The second was that Queen Dawn's sarcophagus was no longer in the castle. It did not take long before the throne room was pulsating with people.

As the room filled so did bad behavior. Many arrived on mounts and refused to dismount in respect for Dawn. I asked several people to please either stable their pet or take them to the back of the room. Chico claimed it never entered his mind and quickly stabled his pet.
Doomsday of the -Y- Guild on the other hand refused to stable his pet and stated he came here to gloat over Dawn's death.

I asked him why he disliked the Queen so much and he informed me nothing has been the same since the departure of Lord British and no woman could ever take his place.

Several winged creatures kept flapping thier filthy tattered wings and were asked often by the crowd to stop flying as the motion was distracting. Working For Tami of the DC* Guild was the only one that refused stating she had no intention of touching toes with the others there showing their respects to the Queen.

Dasha arrived thanking everyone for the flowers donated and informed us the service would take place in Queen Dawn's home, Yew. A teal colored magical gate opened and we were all transported to Yew where the bad behavior continued sad to say.

There was a fine line up of speakers but the fireworks, chatter and non stop spamming by DC* member Superspot made it hard to concentrate. Even Sherry the Mouse seemed annoyed. Fireworks during a funeral service seems most inappropriate.

Galen was the first to speak with Lord DaKaren to follow. Ricardo who was killed by Virtuebane later in the day gave a very inspired speech. Sherry the Mouse ended the service with a bang as Virtuebane crashed the service.

As you can see in the images above Virtuebane made a huge impression on this historic event and with one big bang killed countless! Making his dramatic statement he departed leaving his minions to cause more hell.

Once calm settled in a riderless horse appeared to head the procession to Queen Dawn's final resting place.

[EM Fiction] Fynn's meeting with Colonel Clegg
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Saturday, February 26, 2011, 10:51 AM EST by Mapper (Europa)

Fynn stood at the bough of the ship as it moored at the dock of Serpent's Hold. Ready to disembark the moment it landed. A look of urgency was on his face. He didn't like leaving his Britain at a time like this.

As he crossed the pier and walked towards the walled town, the familiar sounds of clashing swords and arrows hitting buttes grew stronger. A group of young footmen marched past. Fynn smiled and thought; "This place hasn't changed at all since I was here".

A man from across the square called out. "Barrett! Fynn Barrett!"
Fynn recognized the hoarse voice and turned on his heels. "Drill Sergeant Clegg!"
Clegg laughed. "That's Colonel Clegg to you Fynn."
Fynn's expression turned to a frown. "Colonel, Sergeant, Lieutenant... ranks won't matter much soon. If the Kingdom falls apart."
Clegg stopped laughing. "Come on Fynn, as long as the Kingdom has men like you and me all is not lost! Let's talk in my office."

The two men walked side by side through the long corridors of the fortress that was Serpent's Hold. Colonel Clegg's wooden leg clacked loudly on the stone slabs with each step . *Clack* *Step* *Clack* *Step* When he noticed Fynn looking at it he grinned: "I won it in the war..." Fynn knew better than to ask.

Colonel Clegg's OfficeWith a jovial gesture Clegg swung open the doors to his office but didn't let Fynn pass to enter first. He paced to his chair and grabbed the bottle from his desk. "A drink?" Clegg said while pouring two glasses. Clegg bowed his head and raised his glass. "To the Queen." Fynn took up his glass up as well. "May she rest in peace." The men drank in silence.

Clegg emptied his glass and turned to Fynn. "How is the situation in Britain now? Do you have it under control?"
Fynn looked up at Clegg. "For the moment, yes. But the people are afraid, unsure of what is going to happen now she...", Fynn swallowed hard, "now the Kingdom is without it's Queen. And there isn't anybody to take her place on the Throne."
Clegg nodded. "Lady Dawn was a champion of the people and a logical choice for the Throne. But there isn't anybody like that now."
Fynn looked away. "There are some voices calling for the end of the Kingdom... They want people-power, a democracy."
Clegg slammed his fist on the table. "Dissenters! Fools! Democracy is a sure recipe for disaster! It will result in nothing but red tape and endless bickering." Fynn shifted uncomfortably in his chair as Clegg continued "I tell you, when you let peasants run the Kingdom nothing good will come of it. What do they know of politics? Look at what happened in Vesper, their little republic has melted away, like snow in july!" Clegg laughed loudly at his own joke.
Fynn shrugged "I don't know much about politics but I do know the people need leadership. And it has to be somebody they know and trust." "It has to be somebody strong!" Clegg added.
Clegg paused to pour himself another glass. "In the meantime you, me and the other city leaders will have to do our best to keep the Kingdom together and to protect it."
Fynn nodded. "I agree."

Colonel Clegg

Fynn reached over to put his empty glass on the table. "Before I go, there is one other matter I want to discuss." Clegg gestured Fynn to carry on. "The Queen, before her demise, ordered the area of Yew to be Quarantined, to contain the plague. And I believe your men are stationed at the roadblocks, preventing anybody from going in or out."
Clegg nodded curtly. "Those were the Queen's orders."
"I want you to withdraw those men." Fynn had a resolute expression on his face.
Clegg looked surprised. "Why?"
"As long as the quarantine is in effect we can't help the citizens of Yew. They are trapped... And I promised to help them!" Fynn exclaimed. "If we don't do something now there won't be anybody left."
Clegg had a worried look on his face. "You do realize that if the plague spread through the Kingdom now, when we are already so vulnerable, it would mean the end of all of us."
"With all due respect Sir," Fynn took a deep breath, "Virtuebane is invading our cities and has killed our Queen! If we can not overcome a plague... we are already doomed."
Clegg sighed. "Very well Fynn, I will withdraw my men. But I shall hold you responsible if this plague grows out of control."
Fynn looked relieved. "Thank you Clegg, on behalf of the Yewish people."

Colonel Clegg walked Fynn back to his ship. Just as Fynn was about to board Clegg called him. "Be strong Fynn, the Kingdom needs us now!"
Fynn turned around and saluted. "For Britannia!"

[EM Event] Vincent and Phiade Reunited!
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Saturday, February 26, 2011, 9:20 AM EST by Exmortis (Sonoma)

The air was filled with excitement as citizens of Sosaria gathered outside Trinsic bank preparing a strategy to help Vincent escape imprisonment. Then an idea came to our heads…we need to throw cream pies at the jailor! How genius! We will knock him out with a calorie attack.

The Jailor was dispatched by an overload of sugar and crust and we managed to save a pie for Vincent, since as we all know the Trinsic jail serves gruel. With Vincent so heartbroken for his lost love, he then led us through a portal to the Trinsic dock to find his love Phiade.

Quickly the dock became hostile with deadly pirates whose horrific names included Stumpy and Peg Leg Sam. I thought I was going to jump out of my boots when they started to pound on the masses. The bodies were piling up on top of each other as the pirates swung their swords. One even chased my rear all the way out of town.

Finally the crowd whittled away at Peg Leg and stomped Stumpy to the ground. Victory was ours! The heartbroken Vincent made his way to the dock looking for his lost love. He found her in a barrel, scared and shivering. The joy poured through them both as their eyes met, and they embraced so hard that their warmth spread through the crowd surrounding them….true love had been reunited.

Ultima Online Stratics Announcement:

Early in January Lord EdMcManus posted a thread on Chesapeake board looking for a home for his UO flash movies. My diligent staff dragged me into that thread and Ed and I arranged to settle the movies into to a comfortable niche on Stratics.

There has been a short delay. Recently improved technology has allowed the inclusion of previously unseen footage from drafts that Ed felt needed to be seen. Finally, they have been given a bit of a 'wash and brush up' with the help of Lord Gareth.

We are now happy to announce that our new residents can be found under the heading 'Character and Lifestyle' subheading 'Comics' in the index menu on the right side of http://uo.stratics.com.

These movies form a record of times past on Chesapeake, as seen through the eyes of Lord Ed Mcmanus. Here is a shortcut to their new home, we hope you will enjoy watching them.

Fair goers were treated to a special event last eve at the Sosarian Solstice Fair as a new event made it's debut to the public. A "dunk tank" has been installed along the western borders near the stage. Filled to the brim with what onlookers speculated was water, EM's Dudley and Drosselmeyer took turns talking smack to all who stood in line for thier shot to hit 50 points in three throws. Those fortunate enough to reach the goal glee'd happily as the electric colored speedo sportin EM's went for a dip in the icy waters below. There was even a visit from a couple of bad apples as they attempted to redeem the soakin EM's.  Here's a couple pics of the action!

EM Fiction - Native to the Savage Tongue
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, 8:57 PM EST by Morpheus Mardox (Chesapeake)

[Fiction: Native to the Savage Tongue] (This is back story involving the Hermit.)

The hermit scowled at those who had interrupted his solitude as of late, though he had known eventually they would come to him. It was as he was told they would, after all. Many years ago, far past those which he could still count, he had been an adventurer; He had gone through the deepest caves, the darkest dungeons, and the highest cliffs, but he always yearned for more. There had been rumors of a tribe of savages that while their customs were similar to that of the other savage tribes, were not outwardly hostile as the rest were of outsiders. It was said that these particular savages held the key to finding a secret temple, and it was this that he was interested in. In traversing the lands to find them, he knew that he had eventually made his way to the Temple, but his memory was sketchy at best. He vaguely remembered some sort of terrible accident befalling him, and waking up quite some time later in the care of one of the shamans. His wounds were for the most part healed, but he found that a more distressing issue had arisen; He had forgotten how to speak in his original tongue!

It was many months later before he was able to walk and talk well, but since the savages knew little of Brittanian tongue, they had instead taught him their own. In doing so they had taught him of the full story of the Temple, the reason behind their reverence of it, and so much more. His loss of memory had caused him to lose his sense of purpose as well, but he had now found a new one. With all that the savages had told him about the temple, he knew that it was something that needed to be guarded…to be protected from those who were not worthy of entering it’s halls. To do so would likely save countless lives of the unwitting, and even more so…prevent an even greater tragedy from befalling. When he explained this idea to the Chieftain and the Grand Shaman, they expressed disbelief that an outsider would be willing and able to do such a thing. They put his devotion to the test through torturous practices and traditions…but he passed each one with a courage seen by the fiercest of their warriors. With the blessing of the Chieftain and the aid of the Grand Shaman, they constructed the EpiOlmec Cascajal, and the chieftain hid clues in the words of the Brittanians throughout Malas. With the EpiOlmec Cascajal secure with his tribe, and the clues to unlock it scattered across the lands, the chieftain bid a final farewell to the Hermit. Should the worst happen to the tribe, the legacy of the temple would live on. And the hermit intended to live amongst the lands of Malas for the rest of his days.

EM Fiction - Breaking Command
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, 8:54 PM EST by Morpheus Mardox (Chesapeake)

(This is back story involving Captain Irina's past, just before she was assigned to Papua.)

Gwendolyn Irina sat stoically in the office of her commanding officer’s superior, who was scowling ever the worse at her between reading the message she’d been sent with. It didn’t help that she was bleeding onto both her uniform and his chair. After rereading the letter for the second time, the officer steepled his fingers together and waited in silence for her to say something. After several minutes the officer finally spoke.

“Do you want to explain yourself on this? Maybe claim some sort of temporary insanity? Because this isn’t going to end well for you without some reasonable justification. I’ve got here…” He said as he picked up the parchment and gestured towards it, “A signed and sworn statement by the two junior guards who saw the altercation stating that your commander spoke with you about something, and you took a swing at him for it, pulping his face pretty well before you were restrained and subdued yourself. You’ve already been demoted once for insubordination, but this time you might be looking at worse.”

Gwen reached up with one hand and wiped some of the blood from her face, though her lip was still bleeding fairly profusely. “Sir, you have my own statement. Is it not clear, sir?” Her voice was strong and sure despite her own injuries.

The officer picked up the paper and looked over it with a sigh. “Irina, it’s your statement against his. He’s been with the guard for seven years now in Minoc, and there’ve never been any issues. You got transferred to Minoc three months after your demotion. You claim that he ordered you to collect money from some locals he was blackmailing. You also claim he didn’t give you specifics on who before you hauled off and hit him. He says that he told you to join a routine patrol with the two junior guards, and that you refused, first verbally and then physically. Right now it’s your word against his, and the junior guards are backing him up on it. Are you sure you don’t want to change your story?”

Gwen grimaced darkly at hearing that. She should’ve thought over the fact that the junior guards were probably in on it with him. She’d been raised in Trinsic from a young age to always follow the virtue of Honor, and she’d not hesitated to take a swing at the man when he told her what he planned. She’d seen red and acted on her first instinct. She still didn’t have to think over the officer’s offer for long though. “Sir, No Sir. My statement is a sworn document and I have told the truth in it.”

The officer stood from his desk and sighed, pacing back and forth a minute while rubbing his forehead with a thumb and forefinger. “Irina, you’re a good soldier, an excellent combatant, a knowledgeable tactician, and I personally wouldn’t think twice about you guarding my back in any situation. But you’ve got a temper, and you need to control it. Regardless of whether or not I believe you here, all the evidence is against you. And it’s especially bad when your commanding officer, the one whose nose you broke, is pushing for you to just be transferred instead of being brought up on charges. That’s a lot more lenient than most officers would be.”

Gwen scowled deeper at that notion. Her commanding officer was apparently smart enough to even come up with a valid reason for not having an in depth investigation and disguise it as leniency. “That’d be your decision to make, Sir. I don’t mind there being a trial.”

The officer sighed once more as he looked out his window, before turning to her. “No, I think we’ll go with his suggestion. Despite how sure you seem of yourself, without any real evidence I doubt you’ll convince anyone else, and I’d rather you be with the guard than kicked out. It’ll make us all look bad either way, and you’re not someone we want to lose. As you know, Papua hasn’t had anyone in a rank stationed above sergeant in some time. You’ll be in charge of the few guards who are stationed there, and your task will be to watch the Ophidians for anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Is there any problem with that, First Lieutenant Irina?”

Gwen stood up briskly to attention and snapped up her hand in a crisp salute, despite the throbbing in her knuckles from where she’d punched the man. She held the salute until the officer returned it, and was dismissed from his office.

[EM] A Memorial for Lord Owain Surrey
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, 9:00 AM EST by Sahra Swift (Catskills)
From the Catskills EM Website:
A life for a life.
A daemon queen slain, a soothsayer lost.
When I saw him raise his sword against the conversion crystal, I knew he was conscious of the the consequence of his great undertaking. Before we left the Emissary Hall that eve, before his uplifting speech before the gathered citizens of Britannia, he rested his arm upon my shoulder and looked into my eyes. His eyes were veiled, his soul was closed to me. "Keep watch, old friend," he said, putting on his helmet. I now recognize the look in his eyes that had perplexed me then. It was the look of a man who had made peace with death. A man who had foreseen his own fate.
I fear that I cannot offer him recompense for his great sacrifice. I can only look to the sky and fulfill his request. We have repaired the crystal and purified its contents, allowing no more evil to befall it. We will return it to its rightful place in Aegis.
I am offering a memorial service for Lord Owain Surrey, who has fallen in the most consequential battle of our time. We will see him put to rest, a rest he could never find in life, plagued by dreams.
When I close my eyes, I see him on top of a weathered hill, sitting peacefully, embraced in the arms of his wife and daughter.

Memories of a Hero
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 12:18 PM EST by Exmortis (Sonoma)

It’s been many moons since I last paid respects for a public figure in Britannia…13 years to be exact. I was never big on memorials or funerals in Sosaria since I lost my parents to chain lightning accident in Ocllo many moons ago. I swore I would never attend a funeral ever again…until now.

Sage Humboldt was a great man and was admired by all the mages in Britannia. I was but a pup when I first met him as he was questioning folks on Ocllo while he was in search of the liches Lathiari and Kyrnia. Myself being very interested in the magic arts I was in awe of this wise man and his stature. I watched as he walked amongst the crowds of natives greeting them with a warm smile and handshakes and I knew I had to meet him and if I had to push people out of the way I would. As I moved through the crowds towards him he was getting further out of my reach when all of a sudden I felt the urge to yell out his name “Sage Humboldt!!!”. The crowd went silent at my brash outburst and I felt embarrassed and scared as to what the Sage would think of me. He turned around and gave me a stare that to this day I will never forget. Then he approached me.

Click the image to open in full size.

Sage Humboldt – Boy that was a bit bold of you…Do you always scream out people’s names?

Me – Sorry Sir I wanted to get your attention before you left.

Sage Humboldt – Well then what is it?

Me – I wanted to ask you how one becomes a master of the mystic arts? Since so far no one on Ocllo wishes to talk or teach me, because “I am too young”.

Sage Humboldt – I will tell you what boy, on your 16th year you come to my home in Britannia and I will gladly teach
you…..But remember your manners and never yell in such a manner again.

Me - I promise sir…I will behave (Yeah right!) from now on.

Sage Humboldt – Farewell boy and I believe one day you will make a good Stratics Reporter…whoops, I mean a master of the mystic arts.

Unfortunately 25 moons later Sage Humboldt had been killed in the dungeon despise after dismissing Lathiari and his sister, Kyrnia. I was devastated by the news and asked my father if we could attend his funeral in Britannia. He said “the travel will be long and there is plenty of fish to harvest so we will have no time”. I was devastated and determined at the same time, so I snuck out of my house in the middle of the night and bought a ticket for the morning ferry to Britannia.

The day I arrived in Britannia the faces of the people spoke volumes about the loss of this great man. I was told that he was lying in state at the Britannia library and that his funeral was being held in two days. I didn’t have the time to stay two days as my parents would worry greatly so I made my way to the library to pay my respects.

When I arrived he was wrapped in a shroud and the lines of people waiting to pay their respects where massive! As I approached him I looked down and leaned over and whispered in his ear “I will make you proud one day”. Then I was ushered out of the library and back onto the street.

Click the image to open in full size.

When I got back to Ocllo I got a swift tanning from my father and could not sit down for 5 days! While I was tending to my sore behind, a knock came at our door and it was an emissary from Britannia. My father then yelled my name and asked me to come to the door and when I reached the door the emissary handed me a package “this is for you” he said. I quickly tore open the package to find a book and a note.

Dear Ex,

In his Will, Sage Humboldt requested that this book to be given to you in case of his demise. He said to use it wisely as it will help you with your teachings when you are old enough to do so.

Regards,

Winslow

Yes folks, Humboldt sent me his spell book and I keep it locked away as my most cherished possession.

Now we all are in mourning for our Queen Dawn and as she lies in state I come to pay my respects and it brings back memories of Sage Humboldt and what he meant to a young boy with dreams of becoming a mage one day.

Toni Fierce

The personal invitations went out and only 11 Baja Archers were invited to the Skara Brae Fairgrounds. Toni Fierce, GM of Misfits of Society, one of Bajas oldest family guilds and sponsor of the Best Shot in the Realm, invited 2010's greatest archers for the Champion of Champions Shoot-off.

The archers present were, Sanarr, Debi (a two-time monthly winner), Richard Lionheart, Aerowyn, Ahebban, RawheadRex, Allie Koholic, and NightStalker. XornetheBuzzed and Felina were missing from this exalted group.

Toni, in conference with the Misfits BSR Team, decided that a round robin tourney would not be needed for this talented group and that a five-shot, winner take all would be tonight's contest.

The archers lined up one at a time and Sanarr posted four bulls-eyes and a Robin Hood for a 300 and the bench mark was set. Allie Koholic later matched this 300 score but it was Richard Lionheart taking the years end crown with three bulls-eyes and a double RH to be crowned 2010's Champion of Champions.

Congratulations to Richard Lionheart, who won 5 million in gold and a personally engraved bow declaring him the well-deserved title of Grand Champion, Best Shot in the Realm for the year 2010.

The Golden Brew Players Present "Twelfth Night." WarderDragon

On Thursday, February the 10th, the Golden Brew Players - a theater troupe out of the Village of Golden - held their adaption of [I]Twelfth Night, Or What Thou Will,[/I] in honor of the 13th Anniversary of the Kingdom of Dawn.

The Production - directed by Sir Brytt Heathard of the Golden Knights - included the talents of several Britannian Citizens.
Sir Brytt Heathard [Gold] - The Clown / Feste
Kita Talith [Gold] - Viola / Cesario
Fletcher Kemp [Gold] - Duke Orsino
Claudia Drusilla [T'nA] - Countess Olivia
Sebastian - As Himself
Thorin Ironbeard [Gold] - Toby Belch
Andrew - Andrew Aguecheek
James [MT] - Malvolio
Maggy [QSA] - Maria
Spectators gathered at the Sultan's Theater in Nujel'm and admired a Stage decorated with several elaborate props. But it was all a clever ruse. While people took their seats in the minutes before the Opening Scene, the Actors and Stage Crew quickly decorated the buildings of Nujel'm as sets. When the Production began, the Narrator revealed the ruse and led the Audience from Stage to Stage.

Twelfth Night, Or What Thou Will, tells the tale of Maiden Viola, who washes up on the Shores of Nujel'm in the aftermath of a tragic shipwreck. Believing her brother and provider, Sebastian, to be dead, Viola disguises herself as a man to find work and enters into the service of Duke Orsino. She falls in love with the Duke, but must hide her affections as she is sent to win the Countess' hand for her new master. The Countess falls in love with the disguised Olivia. The Butler falls in love with the Countess.

And when the Countess' Uncle and Handmaiden decide to engage in a bit of mischief at Malvolio's expense, all hell breaks loose.

The day has finally come! The day you have all been waiting for! The day of seven years in the making! Oh never mind it’s just me, Exmortis, and I return to you all as - the news manager for Sonoma.

I closed my eyes on Sonoma back in 2004 and left behind a wonderful news team that included Vladamir Taltos, Pluffina, Gypsy Keja Mimi, Grond, Lady Nest, and ummm … oh yeah that guy named Anoob or was it Anuisance…. Now I remember - it was Anev! There wasn’t an event that we didn’t cover and news flowed from our pens like the blood over in Felucca. Sadly, the team is gone now and news is lacking on a shard that has more events than you can shake a stick at.

Stratics Sonoma is currently looking for people who are brave enough to pick up the pen and join the ranks. We would also like to have a Felucca reporter who can cover all the events there, since in the past coverage was a bit of a problem…. too many nasty folks used to beat us up. The Stratics guild and the UOSS hall have been resurrected. So please don’t throw rocks at our windows or our members if you can help it.

If you have any suggestions, stories, events or want to join the team email us at [email protected].

Queen Dawn Murdered!

Dawndeath
                                                                                   Queen Dawn Murdered!

The realm was summoned to the throne room in Castle Britannia last eve to heed the call of Queen Dawn herself. Those in attendance were informed of the possibility of a method to end the chaos that Virtuebane and his minions have unleashed in recent weeks. Describing the magical process of infusing the power of the crook of Humility and the very sword she called her own. adventurers then traveled via moongate to the Humility Shrine itself to complete the task. Little did we know what was to come.....

The Queen went on with the ceremony binding the crook of Humility with her very own sword. Just as the process was complete, a familiar face soon appeared and startled the Queen and those in attendance.

Ors, husband to the Queen Dawn appeared although not quite favoring his normal self. Giggling about with a wild eyed look he paced the shrines stone stage as Queen Dawn spoke to her true love.

Dawn was very relieved to see her husband who had been missing for weeks had returned. Trying to reach him although he was obviously wracked in some odd trance of unknown origin. She assured him she would get him help find a healer do whatever it took to get her love back to normal.

As we all stood helplessly as if in a daze ourselves the unthinkable would soon occur. As the two lovers embraced, the eerily wicked Ors slowly slipped a dagger from behind his back. Stabbing the Queen, Ors went wild repeatidly wounding Dawn as she fell unable to defend the attack.

Pleased beyond comprehension with the devious deed he had just accomplished, Ors cackled loudly as the crowd in attendance groaned in disbelief. Proclaiming to all he had completed his task and summoned the would be puppetmaster himself to view the results.

The vile one himself Virtuebane emerged delighted by the death of the Queen. Taunting the crowd he soon turned his attention to Ors as he exclaimed the two would soon rule the lands.

The puppet was soon released from his magical trance and realizing what he'd done Ors soon tragically saw the light of what had just transpired. Crushed beyond belief, Ors rambling all the way would flee in shame as the crowd in attendance vowed to hunt him down.

Virtuebanes plan was complete. The foul creature sought to gain the infused sword. As Ors fled, he collected the dagger exclaiming he now held the power of the virtue of love stained in the dagger used on Queen Dawn as well as the long overlooked virtue of truth corrupting the books of truth spread amongst the lands. Gloating he combed the terrace seeking the sword. In the midst of the action, someone managed to sneak the blade to safety. Angrily realizing his plans were now delayed, Virtuebane unleashed holy hell summoning his minions in a fit of fury to retrieve the sword.

Incoming from all directions, Blackrock Golems lay waste to the crowd. Battling valiently the realms players stood firm against the tremendous foe. A lenghty battle would ensue.

Arriving to lend a sword to the fray, Commander Drake Foxx led the charge as the final Golems were put down. The crowd soon gathered around the shrine once more as Queen Zhah of Tel Mur arrived hearing of  the recent attack.

Zhah offered her sincerest condolences as she told the citizenship her laborers were already hard at work creating tokens of memorial for the Queen. Instructing those in attendance to visit the stonemason inside the Gargoyle city, there they'd receive a replica of the Queen's likeness for thier own.

Worried citizens pondered the realms future now that its monarch lay fallen. Foxx assured the group order would soon be restored as the Royal Guard would assume command until such time another option is found. The Commander gently collected the Queen's lifeless corpse to return it to Britain to prepare for burial.

With Guardians infesting the cities of the realm, we can only hope the solution of the fallen Queen will lead us to the demise of our most villanous foe. The Royal Guard returned to Serpents Hold to plot the next move as the realm mourns this grievous loss. The rule of the fair and just Queen Dawn has ended this day but the resolve of Chesapeake shall carry on in her name. May the Virtues bestow us with the might to see this to its end.

The Day Of Love Becomes A Day Of Grief

Click the image to open in full size.

As I recount this tale to you, I sit here, shaken by the grievous events that took place two nights past. What was for a moment a blissful reunion between our fair Queen Dawn and her missing husband was quickly shattered, as his hand, guided by an evil spell, plunged a cursed dagger into his beloved wife over and over. This once-joyful holiday has become, through the machinations of Virtuebane, a day of mourning.

It began when Queen Dawn summoned us to the throne room of Castle British. Many of us gathered round to hear what she would announce.

Click the image to open in full size.

Welcome. These have been dark days for our land. The war with the Bane Chosen has reached every corner of our land and yet the Britannian people have persevered. Virtuebane has roamed Britannia, a plague upon our people, but I believe the answer to our trouble has finally presented itself. The Gargoyle Queen has graciously granted an audience to me and as I explained the situation we face, she told me of a way that we might finally banish Virtuebane. The sword I carry was wrought from a plowshare. The Gargoyle Queen recognized the humble beginnings this represented. If my sword can be blessed at the Shrine of Humility, it may finally end the war against Virtuebane.

The Queen gazed around the room at us all.

But I cannot hide the truth from my people, there may be danger involved. Virtuebane has many spies, he is certain to have been informed of our plan.

Oh, Queen, if you only had known the extent of that truth.. perhaps the dire consequences might not have found perfect and sinister execution...

Citizens of Britannia, can I rely on you to help bring an end to Virtuebane at last?

Many were the cheers of the valiant, those of the Crux Ansata, as well as citizens of our land, all lending her their arms.

Very well! We must go to the Shrine of Humility. Come!

A short walk later, we were through the moongate and at the Shrine of Humility in Ilshenar. Queen Dawn knelt at the shrine with her sword, praying for its blessing.

The shrine has granted its blessing!” She held up the sword to the sounds of cheering from us all.

Click the image to open in full size.

Virtuebane will not die easily, I assure you all. But with this... now we have hope.

Suddenly, a familiar face appeared!

Click the image to open in full size.

Dawn's missing husband, Ors! He had been missing for a long time now, and everyone knew how the Queen had been stricken with grief for some time. It seemed unbelievable that he was there, out of seemingly nowhere.

He uttered a cryptic warning that although his words were his, his actions were not. He warned her not to come any closer. Then suddenly he took her into his arms. As she nearly wept with relief and love, he plunged a dagger into her, again and again.

Click the image to open in full size.

As her body fell lifeless to the cold stone tiles, Ors cursed all of Britannia in that unnatural voice. He began to deface the shrine, scratching at it with the dagger.

And then that vile Virtuebane appeared, and Ors dropped respectfully to a knee. The cad! Had he been working for the demon the whole time?? Or had he been under a spell? Virtuebane congratulated him with a mad smile and took the dagger.

Ors, your usefulness has ended. Live free of my embrace, in the knowledge of what you have done. You are with your love at last. I have given you a gift that few in my service have enjoyed.

Ors blinked free of the spell and gazed at the corpse of his wife. It took several moments for him to realize her fate. He cried out in agony as he rushed to take her into his arms.

Click the image to open in full size.

Ors, do not regret your actions! You have freed Britannia!” Virtuebane proclaimed.

He asked us what happened, and some of us responded with the horrible truth. There were those, like me, who were too shocked to respond. He didn't believe, until he realized how bloody his hands were. He gazed around, crestfallen, as Virtuebane watched with glee. Suddenly fearful, Ors leapt up, and quickly made for the moongate. With one last shout of condemnation, he spat at Virtuebane, and then he was into the moongate and gone.

Virtuebane began shouting demands that we bring him Dawn's blessed sword. He was met with refusals and snide comments, told where he could go back to. Eventually, he took the sword up on his own. As he vanished, we were suddenly surrounded by blackrock monstrosities. Chaos broke out as battle commenced.

Click the image to open in full size.

It was a long battle, but sometime during the fight, Lady Danica Amandine joined us. She rallied with her calls and tried to coordinate our moves. Eventually, we won out against the unnatural creatures and she summoned us to Castle British.

As we gathered to hear our Lady Knight speak, I studied the commander's expression. The day had been a bleak one and I was glad not to be in her shoes with such ill news to report. Her sigh was heavy as she sheathed her sword, the sound echoing round the chamber as we stood in silence, listening.

Click the image to open in full size.

Queen Dawn gave her life to this Kingdom. In her stead we must, each of us, stand tall and true. To defend this realm. The forces of the dread one, this... Virtuebane. Can not be tolerated. Was the sword recovered? Anyone? The Sword Queen Dawn infused with Humility. It may be our only hope against Virtuebane. We must find it.

This is a sad day. I want my Crux Knights to keep the peace. In this time of change. I do not know what we are to do... But for now, Military Law. Keep the peace in this time of change. We will move on beyond this.

As Danica spoke, a meer appeared beside her.

Click the image to open in full size.

I bring you greetings from the village of Lakeshire, milady,” It spoke. “Word of the Queen's demise has reached us already.

He told us how the Meer had begun work on a statue sculpted in Dawn's image to immortalize the late queen. Danica asked permission to view it, and we all filed into a moongate to the Meer city of Lakeshire in Ilshenar.

Click the image to open in full size.

The sculpture still had a bit of work left to do, but I found myself heartened by the thoughtfulness of such a token. I would be sure to visit periodically to check on its progress, and I hoped others would, as well.

The crowd dispersed, and as I wandered home I knew that Valentine's Day would no longer continue to hold quite the same notions as it once did. In time, many would come to forget the fate of our Queen. but, I knew that Ors would forever be haunted by his black deed on this day.

And I prayed that we would recover Dawn's blessed Sword of Humility and destroy for good the foul beast who dared call himself the bane of Virtue.

The fate of Sosaria depended upon it.

VirtueBane!

The Death of a Queen.

Queen Dawn wanted to speak with her people and planned a emergency meeting in the castle of Britain.
It must have been something to do with the banechosens attacks on several towns.A large crowd gathered inside the throne room.

It was clear that the banechosen where corrupting the Virtues. Only one Virtue was still free from the corruption. The Virtue of Humility.Humility is the only Virtue that stands on is own. and is not effected by the corruption of the principles truth, courage and love.
It was time to stand against the Bane and to end it all.
Queen Dawn took her loyal followers to the Humility shrine in Ilshenar.

Queen Dawn told about the importance her sword was and how it was made. She spoke some words on the humility shrine to bless it.
A bad feeling came over me like i only have when a great evil presence is around us.
Only a few seconds later VirtueBane showed is ugly face!

He wanted Queen Dawns sword.Dawn refused. But the VirtueBane had still a few trick up his sleeves. He told her he had her husband Ors and that she could get him back in return for the sword.
Ors was kidnapped weeks ago and could not believe her ears. She wanted proof that VirtueBane had indeed Ors.
Only a few moments Ors appeared before Dawn. She could not believe her eyes. She smiled and cried at the same time.Ors came closer to Dawn and then when they fell in each other arms Ors stabbed Dawn in her back.
A magical barrier prevented that the crowd could reach the Queen and attack Ors.
Dawn was murdered by her own husband!

VirtueBane reappeared again with a smile on his face. He was happy with what occurred. Then he released Ors from the Magical spell that he was under. The spell that made him to kill his own wife.Ors was devastated about what he has done.

Ors ran off.
VirtueBane searched the Queens body for the sword.
It was gone!
He was angry and yelled at the crowd to give the sword to him.
No one of this crowd would give him this sword. We would all rather want to kill him.In his anger he summoned a army of blackrock golems to destroy us!
All hell broke loose!

We should not forget Queen Dawn for all what she done for her people.
After we all returned to the castle they took us to a stone crafter in Gargoyle City in Ilshenar. They gave us a small statue in memory of Queen Dawn.

Kingdom Under Fire: The Hand of Retribution.

Kingdom Under Fire: The Hand of Retribution

Tonight the Defenders of Britannia - and the gathered representatives of the Empress of Zento and the Elven Isles - met in Council.

Their purpose? To declare War on the Shadow.

Amongst their number was Darius - Elven Highlord of Heartwood - in whose wisdom the Council had been called. James of the Mage Tower who bore word from the People of Ter Mur. Lord Yalp - Managarm of the Covenant - representing the Empress. Defender Aria McCullough of Vesper. Elevere and Glinmiali of the Elven Isles. And Guardswoman Leithia.

Those who answered the summons were driven by a single purpose - Retribution - but were at a loss where to channel their collective furor. Britannia - having just recovered from the War against the Shadowlords - had long been on the bring of collapse. As grim looks were exchanged back and fourth that doom loomed ever more near.

Yalp stood and expressed his peoples concern over the lack of leadership in the absence of the Queen. James called for the Sword of Dawn to be found.

Elevere - Queen of Clan Zanthes - turned to the brooding figure who stood at the edge of the candlelight. "Have you nothing to say ... Nicholas?"

"I do." Nicholas removed his hood. "I have many things to say."

The Fallen Paladin - who had for months fought on the side of the Bane Chosen and had stood in opposition to the Defenders - revealed that it had been a careful deception. He revealed with anger in his eyes the Dark Portal and the Legions of Demons that had appeared in his homeland during the War of Mondain. Of those he had lost during the Fall of Magincia.

But that deception had failed to produce Ors. Had failed to prevent the murder of an innocent woman. And for that he wanted blood.

Nicholas called for Captain Jenkins to be named Lord General of Britannia. That in the absence of the Queen he wield authority derived from the People.

He then called for a Union. For the Kingdoms of Sosaria - Britannia, Dawn, Ter Mur, Zento, the Elven Kingdoms, and Latinum (Hearthfire and Luna) - to unite under a Single Banner. To form a Grand Alliance not seen since the foundation of Britannia.

That which was discussed is listed below.
I. That the Kingdoms of Sosaria form a Single Force: The Grand Alliance. The Alliance would be united in their Faith in Virtue and the Light.
II. That Captain Jenkins be declared the Commanding General of the Britannian Forces and the Grand Alliance. In the absence of the Queen he derives his Power from the People.
III. That the Sword of Queen Dawn must be recovered. It is the Scepter. It is the Icon around which the Britannians will Unite. Their Standard.
IV. That Dar, Frances, Aria, Davon, and the Defenders continue the Crusade against the Bane Chosen.
V. That the Cities must be retaken.
VI. That the Defenders discover the means through which the Bells of Courage can be restored and consecrated.
VII. That the Dark Portal must be sealed. That it be the sole purpose of the Court Thaumaturgists.
VIII. That the Oracles and Far Seers should be sought and consulted.
IX. That Tiamat must be restored to her True Form to help combat the Bane Chosen.
Darius and Elevere departed the High Council Chamber with fierce determination in their eyes. Tonight the Bane Chosen would pay a double price for the pain they had caused.

Kingdom Under Fire: The Queen of Britannia has been Murdered!

Queen Dawn the Valiant - Third Monarch to the Britannian People and Wearer of the Jeweled Crown of Cantabrigian - has been murdered.

It appears her husband - Ors of Yew - delivered the killing blow while under the ensorcelment of the Demon of Magincia. When freed of the enchantment he turned the weapon upon himself in guilt and died at her side.

The full report will be delivered soon.

The Town Guard of Britain is expected to declare Martial Law in the Capitol. Ships are barred from entering and leaving the harbor. Trade has ceased. The Royal Guard is being recalled from the Abyss and the surrounding Garrisons.

The Lord Captain is expected to wield control in the Capitol until order is restored.

SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY ~ QUEEN DAWN IS DEAD!

SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY ~ QUEEN DAWN IS DEAD!

THE QUEEN IS DEAD !

Valentine Sunday was bloodier than anyone expected.
A large noisy group gathered at the Hall in Brit. They were instructed to relocate to the Throne Room at Brit Castle, maybe because of the noise, maybe because of the increasing size of the mob.

Dexter tried to direct and control the crowd but it was almost impossible. There was a feeling of unrest in the air....everyone could feel it. Then Queen Dawn appeared and spoke of potions and the role we all play in keeping our lands safe. The crowd was then transported to a shrine high upon a platform where our Queen greeted her people.

Presenting an ancestral sword Queen Dawn imbued it with Humility.

To the shock of the crowd Ors appeared and stabbed the Queen directly in the heart, this was no Valentines !

Before anyone could truly grasp that the Queen was dead Virtuebane appeared ( the ancestral sword missing ) and all hell broke loose.
Death became so many, the numbers were countless. Blackrock creatures did what they do best but they too slowly died.

With all calm on the platform Lord Magnus Grey appears in total shock to see the Queen dead. He picks up her limp body and asks everyone to meet back at the Castle.

Lord Magnus Grey gave these words to the crowd at the castle......

"A GREAT TRAGEDY HAS BEFALLEN BRITANNIA THIS NIGHT.
OUR QUEEN IS DEAD BEYOND THE REACH OF HEALERS OR MAGES.

NONE CAN DENY THAT QUEEN DAWN DEDICATED HER LIFE TO BRITANNIA.

QUEEN DAWN WAS A WARRIOR WITH A STRONG SENSE OF DUTY AND A DEVOTION TO THE VIRTUE OF VALOR.

THERE IS MUCH WORK TO BE DONE IN THE COMING WEEKS.
WE WILL HOLD A MEMORIAL FOR OUR LATE QUEEN.
WE WILL TRY AND WRESTLE THAT DAGGER FROM THE FOUL HANDS OF VIRTUEBANE.
WE WILL SEEK OUT DAWN'S ANCESTRAL SWORD WHICH SHE GAVE HER LIFE TO IMBUE.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO DEFEND OUR CITIES.
WE WILL AVENGE VIRTUEBANE'S INSULT ON OUR GREAT NATION.
WE WILL AVENGE HIS DESECRATION OF THE PRINCIPLES AND THE VIRTUES!"

Word spread quickly through the land, " The Queen is Dead ! "

Before the group departed a representative of the Meers appeared to the crowd and voiced sympathy on the passing of the Queen. As a memorial the Meer Community dedicated statues in honor of the Queen and her brave reign. Those attending this sad event in history were gifted one of these special statues.

LONG LIVE THE QUEENS MEMORY!

Are We Without Leadership?

Tonight we witnessed the treachery of Virtue Bane first hand!

The citizenry awoke to a lighted lanturn, signaling a request by the Queen to attend an important meeting. When the time came, and everyone was gathered in the Throne Room, Dawn appeared with dire news.

The forces of Virtue Bane, and ideed the demon Virtue Bane himself, have been rampaging the towns of Britania. The attacks getting more and more vicious as the weeks went by, the Queen feared we would soon begin losing town after town unless something was done.

The plan was to imbue Dawn's sword with the virtue of Humility, which in theory would allow Dawn to attack Virtue Bane.

To make matters worse, Dawn also believed that her husband, Ors, had been kidnapped by Virtue Bane.

The crowd was transported to the Humility Shrine in Ilshenar. Where the Queen preformed a ritual, imbuing her sword with the Humility Virtue.

No sooner had the finished the ritual, than her missing husband Ors, stumbled onto the scene. Everyone could tell there was something not right about Ors, except for the Queen...

Despite warnings from the crowd, the Queen moved within arms reach of Ors, and that is when he stabbed her with a poisoned dagger.

The instant this task was done, the spell over Ors subsided, and he broke down, understandably totally unconsoleable. The demon Virtue Bane then came to gloat, and retrieve the imbued sword.

However... the sword had been secreted away. In a rage, he summoned an army of demons, and Blackrock Golems. Which the citizens of Legends beat back without breaking a sweat.

When fighting subsided Lt. Braddock solemly lifted the queens body, and carried her back to the castle where a monument was errected in the courtyard in her honor.

The only questions now on everyone's mind is who do we look to now for leadership, and how are we going to get rid of the demon Virtue bane.

[Report] Britannians Mourn as Queen Dawn is Murdered (Sunday 13th)

The room was filled to the rafters when Queen Dawn appeared from behind the curtains.

13021101.jpg

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "Good evening my citizens! I am glad to see so many of you here tonight for we have a very important task! The time has come for us to challenge Virtuebane and his Chosen!"

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "Virtuebane is corrupting the very principles of the Virtues. Truth, Love and Courage. My spies are reporting that new members of the Bane Chosen are initiated by corrupting the book of Truth! Virtuebane corrupts the Bell of Courage in every town he attacks and lastly there is the principle of Love."

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "I suspect Virtuebane is trying to corrupt the principle of Love through me... By taking away me beloved... My husband Ors!"

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "But we will take back what's ours! For now we know Virtuebanes weakness, Humility! Humility is the only of the Virtues that exists independently of the three principles. Humility is the foundation uponwhich the three principles rest and thus it hasn't not yet been affected by Virtuebane's deed."

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "We will imbue our weapons with the strength of Humility! And with it deliver a decisive blow to Virtuebane! We must depart now, to the Shrine of Humility."

13021102.jpg

At the Shrine of Humiliy in Ilshenar the Royal Guard gathered around the Shrine as Queen Dawn began touching her sword onto the Shrine.

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "It is done! The sword has been blessed with the strength of Humility."

13021103.jpg

Suddenly, Ors, Queen Dawns husband appeared at the Shrine.

Quote:

Queen Dawn: "Ors!! My Ors! It is really you!"

Quote:

Ors: "It is good to see you again, my love. Embrace me, my queen... lest this is but a dream."

13021104.jpg

13021105.jpg

Virtuebane then appeared at the Shrine.

Quote:

Virtuebane: "Ors! You have done well my little peon! The might Queen Dawn, she has fallen! I hereby release you from my spell. May you live your life in misery."

13021106.jpg

Ors then appeared to wake up and was then able to see what he had done as he stood over Queen Dawns corpse.

13021107.jpg

Meanwhile the Virtuebane began to search Dawn for the sword.

Ors slowly picked up the dagger and then thrust it into himself.

13021108.jpg

Virtuebane seemed unable to find the sword from Dawns corpse and ran off, But the peace didn't last when suddenly the area filled with blackrock golems.

13021109.jpg

13021110.jpg

13021111.jpg

13021112.jpg

When the Golems had finally been killed Fynn Barrett picked up the corpse of Dawn and took her to the castle.

13021113.jpg

13021114.jpg

She was gently laid to rest on her bed when back in the main hall a Meer announced the construction of a memorial to Queen Dawn.

13021115.jpg

On touching the statue a memorial would be placed into your backpack.

By: Elder EM Dudley
EM Forums Link

It is with great pleasure that we announce that the Legends of the Hidden Temple event will be going live on February 14th, 2011 at 8 AM ET.

This is an event you can do anytime.

Without further adieu...

...And the savage peoples looked on with great disbelief, for what they saw before them defied nature. More beautiful than a sunset and as majestic as the nature's greatest triumph the temple glistened in the vast starfield....

Greetings bold adventurer!

You are about to embark on a quest for the Hidden Temple of the Savage peoples of Ilshenar! Be wary though, for your journey is not without risk! With great risk, however, comes great reward! Your task begins with the Royal Surveyor found in Trinsic. Offer her, "Greetings" and you will be on your way! Be forewarned that this adventure is not for the young or faint of heart! Your intellect will be tested, your courage and valor challenged! Remember to bring plenty of supplies and make sure your insurance is paid in full!

At various point throughout your quest you may choose to use a "Town Portal" scroll and return to Trinsic by speaking the word "Exit." You will actually see a scroll.

A blue gate is an emergency exit. It will bring you back to Trinsic.

Make sure you take care to read all the books that have been set out for you, as they may contain important information!

Remember if you complete the quest do not spoil it for others!

Good Luck!

For several weeks now the citizens of Yew have been suffering from the effects of the plague. So far they have been unable to stop the outbreak. Many have already been infected with the plague.

In order to contain the plague and prevent it from spreading through the rest of the Kingdom: Queen Dawn has ordered the quarantine of Yew and its surrounding area. At least until the plague has been eradicated.

As of today nobody is allowed in or out of the area of Yew! Armed guards have been posted along the roads leading to Yew to enforce the quarantine.

Royal Guard Dress Uniform Design Competition

Royal Guard Dress Uniform Design Competition
By: Elder EM Dudley
EM Forums Link

By order of Lord Commander Drake Foxx the following competition is open to the general populace:

Task: To design a Dress Uniform for all Royal Guard units to be worn while any enlisted member of the Royal Guard is at the Royal Guard Depot at Serpent's Hold. This uniform is for RP and ceremonial purposes only. The basic uniform (boots/kilt/sash/hat) are encouraged to be worn during all combat operations, but it is not a necessity (you receive extra merit points if you stay in uniform). The uniform that is open for design is to be worn again at Serpent's Hold only.

Guidelines: The uniform should be standard among all enlisted persons. You may include designations for rank (changes in armor color/armor style/clothing etc) but each designation should build on a basic scheme. Sashes/Doublets/Capes are examples of items that will be awarded for advancement in rank. This means that as you advance in rank you will receive a sash, then doublet, then a cape. Also remember that each regiment has a different hat style. Keep this in mind. The official Royal Guard color is a bright red, (the color of the sashes we've given out). You are free to amend other colors as you wish. Only colors attained through normal or special dye tubs are allowable. No neons!

Judging: Royal Guard units will vote on the design they like best. All designs are subject to pre-approval by the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard. Submission period closes on March 14th, judging will commence at a Royal Guard live game event following the close of the submission period.

Reward: The person who is responsible for submitting the winning design shall be designated Quartermaster, and recognition as such.

Happy tailoring!

Race
At this time humans only, once the general scheme is accepted the other races will be developed.

Regiment list
Mages, Melee, Archers, Tamers

Colors
Regular Dye Tub, Special Dye Tub, Leather Dye Tub, Metallic Dye Tub, White/Black tubs

Entry submission
Email screenshots to EM Dudley
or send your design by mail to Drake's Mailbox
You do not need to be present to win

To all Citizens and those who would call Themselves Friend of Brittania,

At this late hour in the conflict with the Bane Chosen that has so enveloped our lives, I embark on a mission of hope. I have learned of a weapon that may allow us to finally defeat Virtuebane and end the terror that he has brought to our land. We have had to persevere through much in recent memory, but this valiance has brought victory. Victory over the great evil of Ix Tab, and victory over the invading forces that would take our fair cities and towns.

The time has come to finally defeat the Bane Chosen, and guided by the Virtues, vanquish their leader. To this end I call upon all Guards and able-bodied warriors to meet in front of the Castle three days hence. From here we shall depart on our mission, and take the first of the final steps in defeating Virtuebane.

Her Majesty,

Queen Dawn

[EM] Orders

Posted on Friday, February 11, 2011, 1:21 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills)
by Barnaby
It was the first night in many weeks in which Olivia Kanlocke had been able to drift to sleep on terms of her own and not those of a body too worn or a mind stretched too thin. But a restful sleep was not to be, as shortly after midnight an urgent scratching sound was heard at her doors. With a groan, the Commander of the Royal Guard rose and answered the door.

“This had better be important,” she said, groggily.

Looking about, she didn’t see anyone in the dark hallway outside of her quarters. Barely awake, she was startled by the muffled squeak she heard coming from her feet. “Some great warrior you are” Olivia thought to herself as she realized who had been scratching at her door. “Good evening, Sherry.” Spying a bundle of parchment in the mouth of the castle’s smallest resident, she bent over and relieved Sherry of her burden as the mouse stood by dutifully.

“Oh thank you Commander Kanlocke, those tasted dreadful,” the mouse exclaimed.

“I believe I have some cheese and water inside,” a bemused Olivia stated, “You are welcome to it if you wish.”

“I do appreciate the offer, Commander, but I must be on my way. Queen Dawn requested that these be delivered to you at once!” Sherry replied.

Studying the fresh ink on the paper in her hands, a sudden sense of foreboding fell upon her mind. “Sherry,” she called to the departing mouse, “What has happened? What am I holding?”

The reply from Sherry was uncharacteristically somber. “Orders.”

Shutting the door to her quarters, Olivia sat at her desk and lit a small lantern. Looking at the bound parchments in front of her, she realized there were actually two separate documents. She opened the one sealed with the insignia of the Royal Guard.

****************************************************

Commander Kanlocke,

I have recently learned of a weapon that could potentially prove fatal to Virtuebane. It is my sword, in fact, but to be effective it needs to be taken to a Shrine of Humility. I will make an announcement tomorrow calling for all Guards and able-bodied warriors of the land to meet with me at the Castle from where we will proceed to the Shrine in Ilshenar (should we encounter Virtuebane’s minions, and I full expect we will, I believe this would be a more feasible site to engage them than any other location).

While we are gone, I leave the defense of the realm in your capable hands. I will require the bulk of the available Guards, but will leave you with a sizable contingent. Success in my mission is not a guarantee, and the protection of our realm is of the utmost importance – I loathe to leave it even for a short period of time but I believe this is a necessary venture.

Your Queen,

Dawn

****************************************************

With a sigh so deep it seemed as though it came from the very depths of her soul, Olivia let the parchment slide through her fingers and float to a rest upon her desk. She didn’t like this, but she knew she had no choice. The Queen had made her decision, and it was not the Commander of the Guard’s place to question it. She had her orders, and she would follow them. With the certainty of someone who had seen much of war, Olivia knew that for better or worse, everything hinged on what happened next.

In response to the Yew Plague the Moonglow Navy gathered up bandages, food and weaponry into several pack horses and took to the seas and headed for Yew.

The Navy arrived at Stonekeep just as the plague pushed in from the north, With the Royal Guard still on the way the battle began to try defend Stonekeep.

Shortly after arriving the Royal Guard along with Fynn Barrett arrived with further supplies.

To the North the Guard tackled huge mounds of gore slowly working their way towards Stonekeep.

08021107.jpg

After the plague had been cleared from the area, a lady from Stonekeep showed Fynn a grave sticking up from cracks in the ground, One of several that surrounded the area.

She said the guardsmen believe all six are connected, But were just too scared to dig down to see what was there.

At Stonekeep, Fynn said he would request to the Queen that she send more aide to Stonekeep.

08021110.jpg

Back in Britain the Guard and anyone else who was at Yew were asked to burn their clothes to help stop the spread of the plague, Fynn then retired for the evening.

Festival of Oimelc

Oimelc is a Celtic Celebration marking the half way mark between beginning of winter solace and spring solace. As the legend goes, Cailleach, the hag of Gaelic tradition — gathers her firewood for the rest of the winter. Legend has it that if she intends to make the winter last a good while longer, she will make sure the weather on Oimelc is bright and sunny, so she can gather plenty of firewood. Therefore, people are generally relieved if Oimelc is a day of foul weather, as it means the Cailleach is asleep and winter is almost over.
Come join us celebrating with fun, games and prizes.

The Call To Arms came first from Sister Frances, Bane were Invading Britain! Lord Dar answered, and learning no Bard's were immediately available, Lord Dar called upon the Lady Davon to hasten to Britian. Upon her arrival Lady Davon met up with Sister Frances and began sweeping the streets. Lady Davon, accompanied by her Guardian Elf, a massive Dragon of Greater strength and ability than most, killed some bane rabble at the West Britain Bank along with a Bane guard.

As Sister Frances scouted ahead the pair rounded a corner and to their Joy and Surprise they saw Queen Dawn battling a Bane guard. Immediately they raced in support of the Queen. Soon after Lady Happy Fool joined the Defenders. Led by Queen Dawn they fought their way to the Castle's Throne Room. Seeing the Castle secure they roamed the streets of Britain, East and West, routing bane as they went. Having seriously thinning the Ranks of the Bane, Queen Dawn charged the Defenders to continue pressing the attack while She returned to the Castle for a Meeting with Captain Jenkins and the "ThiefMaster."

Soon after the Queen departed the Defenders were joined by Aria McCulloughand her own pair of "guardians," Frostbite the White Wyrm and Fiona the fiercest Bake Kitsune ever seen. The reinforced group of Defenders continued sweeping the streets, alleys, and docks of Britain slaying the Bane, Guards and recruits. Mad Dog the local Fishman joined the Defenders briefly and fed and healed them as needed before returning to the Seas.

As the darkness of night began to lift, giving way to the eastern Sun, companions were stabled and the Defenders were put up at the Inn for rest and repaste.

Come Join the Defenders, Never know when Queen or VirtueBane may appear!

Saving Guardsman Dunn

>>> Ilshenar News <<<Saving Guardsman Dunn
WarderDragon

Two nights have passed since a Squadron of Britannian Guardsmen and Volunteer Defenders gathered at the behest of Lord Captain Jenkins. Their mission? To rescue Guardsman Recruit Trystan Dunn - if alive - and a Britannian Farmsteader from the clutches of Bane Commander Elyse.

It would be Master Hawkeye - bearing an enchanted seal cursed with the infernal touch of Lord Virtue Bane - who would perform the rite of abjuration, opening the Void Barrier and allowing the Britannians to spill over the curtain wall and into the encampment of an unprepared and unwitting Bane Legion.

Retribution was swift. When the last screams died and silence fell again over the Vale of Termir Ilshen, it would be the blood of a thousand Bane Paladins soiling the fertile earth. None were allowed to escape and warn their fellows. None taken prisoner.

Twas a Feast for the Crows.

The malnourished but breathing Guardsman Dunn was freed of his shackles and escorted back to Castle Britannia. There he revealed that the Prince Consort - Ors of Yew - was indeed being held by the Bane Chosen.

He also revealed - to the grim surprise of those gathered - that Virtue Bane possessed the power to control and manipulate the minds of his followers from afar. How many of the Bane Chosen were unwilling pawns in the scheme of the Demon Lord? How many Britannians are his servants? Only time will tell.

Supreme Chancellor Announced!!
By:Paschal

The Ethereal Void Imperium announced yesterday their intentions of nominating a Supreme Chancellor to oversee the roles and responsibilities of EVI. After a quick vote, a majority ruled to accept the nomination of Scorpio, from the township of Cibola. Scorpio will step into his role as Supreme Chancellor in the next few weeks. He has governed a few townships before, and states "I am Honored that the EVI OOC Leaders have faith in me to fulfill the position of Supreme Chancellor, and i will do my best to not to let anyone down." Scorpio was the Mayor that established the Township of Action and Cibola. He has many years overseeing the development of townships and operating an organization within the UO Gaming Community. We look forward to seeing what he is capable of doing for the Ethereal Void Imperium. My Soul and Mine Heart, Pierced by Cupid’s Dart
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, February 6, 2011, 12:53 PM EST by Merci d'Rue (TavernsandTales)
Through darkness and despair
Looking for Thee, Mondain
Alas, but in vain
My soul and mine heart
Pierced by Cupid's dart
Will never heal
Without Mondain's will
Love is a desolate land
Unless Thou, Mondain
Takest me by the hand
To thy youth fountain
-- Minax

Click the image to open in full size.

Tis often true that we cannot foresee the arrival of cupids tell-tale arrow. Love and relationships are an ever present part of Ultima Role-play. Lore itself has given us many notable figures and infused their loves stories, good and bad into our world. Let us begin with one of the most famous and if not most notorious love affairs, Mondain and Minax. It is said that she, his young apprentice fell in love with him, enamored with abilities and skill in the dark arts of magic. Minax was known for her never-ending passion, a passion that leads her to try to destroy our existence as well as that of other worlds. As the poem states above ever pining for her lost love.

Click the image to open in full size.

The climax was the devastation of 2111, Minax's greatest triumph, when ancient civilizations born of love and beauty, wisdom and reason, turned on one another in hatred and destroyed most of the very earth that had nurtured them. If it were not for the time doors, we would not be here now. Only the ability to move in time enabled any living thing to survive..."
-- From the writings of Lord British

Yet let us not only focus on the Notorious. There have been many great love affairs that are pure and true. Couples of great virtue that filled the hearts of Sosaria , let us look at Iolo and Gwenno. The love of a simple bard/bowmaker and his talented wife, they changed the tides of strife in Sosaria. Iolo’s song “Stones” still plays on many of the music box’s in Sosaria’s taverns to this day.

Quote:
"Long ago ran the sun on a folk who had a dream
and the heart and the will and the power:
They moved earth; they carved stone; molded hill and channeled stream
that we might stand on the wide plains of Wiltshire.
Now men asked who they were, how they built and wonder why
that they wrought standing stones of such size.
What was done 'Neath our shade? What was pray'ed 'Neath our skies
As we stood on the wyrd plains of Wiltshire.
Oh what secrets we could tell if you'd listen and be still.
Rid the stink and the noise from our skirts.
But you haven't got the clue and perhaps you never will.
Mute we stand on the cold plains of Wiltshire.
Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire.
-by Iolo FitzOwen
Iolo so in love with his wife, erected this monument in her memory:
Click the image to open in full size.

All of this leads us to inspiration and idea, Love a prominent feature in Lore and role-play is often expressed in many fashions. It transcends the beliefs of good and evil and lives in its own world. The unknown hit of cupids bow, striking our characters whether they be sitting quietly at a tavern or bustling thru a crowded marketplace.

So as cupids’ day of terror draws ever closer and we find ourselves with partner or not, let these ideals lead you to quiet stream of peace or sinful terrace in a tavern. Let us find the time to share a sweetened smile of love or a dark seductive look of passion…

Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all!

[EM News / Event] Guardsman Dunn Captured by the Bane Chosen.
By EM Seppo.

Dear Citizens,

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking up the quest to find out the fate of the guard recruit Trystan Dunn. Unfortunately, the worst has come to pass; Dunn is being held within a camp heavily guarded by the forces of Virtue Bane. A report of a person that was able to sneak in and out of the camp fellows.

...As you make your way south of the shrine of Sacrifice (Ilshenar), the banners flying from the top of the tents is the first thing you see as you approach the camp. The camp itself is protected by a palisade. When I tried to estimate its strength, it felt like no wood I have ever encountered. I doubt a dozen men would be able to make a dent to it. Given the nature of the forces involved, magic is likely to be the culprit for it’s seemingly supernatural strength.

However, as we walked around the perimeter of the camp – trying to be as light footed as possible – we discovered a point of weakness. At one of its corner, the walls just did not quiet mesh up. That might be difficult to imagine, how does a wall not mesh up? As I said before there is probably magic involved. More importantly, we were able to make use of this gap and teleport ourselves inside.

This is the general layout of the camp or what we could make out of it within the short period we spent inside. There is one large farmhouse, likely crawling with Bane officials. I am not familiar with their ranking structure, but every army has its captains and generals! Then there are the two tents. As luck would have it, we saw a person matching the description of Trystan Dunn being dragged inside one of the tents. Rescue was out of the question as the grounds are heavily guarded and we were but two.

We hope that this information is of some import for any rescue attempts being planned for the poor chap. I do not envy his position and am glad that I am writing this letter from the warmth of my humble home.

PS – The gap in the wall seems to have been fixed as we were not able to gain entry again.

I urge the defenders of Britain to spare any time and strength that can be possibly expended given the current circumstances to help rescue Dunn. The recruit is the responsibility of the Town Guards as he was at the Faire Grounds under our direction. I have posted a single scout to keep an eye on the camp. Perhaps, we can ambush one of the Bane and gain means to enter the camp.

Sincerely,

Town Guard Yosh.

Note: Bane guards will be found outside of the camp. Take a guard down to see if you can obtain something of use to enter the camp. The guards will be found outside of the camp at various times, including:

Thursday, February 3rd - 7 to 8:00 PM PST.

Friday, February 4th – 2:00 to 4:00 PM PST.

Friday, February 4th – 7 to 8:00 PM PST.

The Ever Changing Face of Luna

The Ever Changing Face of Luna

Since Luna's birth I have owned at least one plot within the city walls of Luna and at one time I had four plots at once.
Most people have strong thoughts on Luna, usually they love it or hate it.
Because of Luna's history as being a center of commerce the physical face of the city has had many transformations over the years. Once a year I highlight the city with some of its changes.

Nothing changes the cities looks faster than an IDOC. This past week there was one and it did indeed fall. I snagged the screenshot above not long before the roof and walls came tumbling down.
Two plots were placed in the space where one once stood.
Masteryoda who recently returned to the game after five years away,
( because of his wife giving birth of two children ) placed one of the plots. He claims luck and a fast finger were on his side.

Of course there are some plots that have stayed the same for years in Luna and several new designs I have highlighted in the past year like the design wonder owned by Kiara.

Further up the road from Yoda's new place on the south side of the city is a small plot by TEC who owns several Luna shops. It specializes in items for the sea and ships. Then there is Junky Monkey. I really like the vendor outfits of Junky's shop. As a rule I am not a huge fan of white in the game but those white sandles really work and the color combinations make the vendors pop!

A tasteful and always well stocked shop is AsoM. The owner of this corner shop has put a lot of time and thought into it. I have personally dropped some gold at this shop.

Not every plot in Luna is a vendor shoppe which is great because it cuts down lag for some players. At this writing the plot I find most out of place is Jamies Farmhouse. The design is rather wonderful but there is nothing about Luna that screams farmlands. Then again variety is the spice of life. I have actually gone on this plot and picked apples from its tree. It is a farmhouse afterall. I am not sure what fertilizer Jamie is using on his roses but by the color they look extremely toxic.

I truly love seeing all the many different ways people design plots and do decor. Some I like more than others and Of The Ring is a person that owns and has owned many plots within the city walls of Luna. I have never been a fan of this persons design so I was delighted to see a clean and dramatic shop owned by him on the north side of the city. Again white sandles ( usually not my favorite )and fuscia hair styles really make the vendors stand out, not a design that confuses your eye or distracts from what we women ( and men ) love to do.....shop.

My favorite new shop is The Flying Swine Wine & Spirit. I love everything about this shop. The use of the new grapevines with posts and the large vat for proccessing grapes to wine is a great way to give the garden/farm feeling at the same time it works within a city setting.
Not only is the plot a treat to see but the vendors are stocked with great things, high end things. This is not the shop for a young/new player. Even if one cannot afford to purchase items here browsing is a joy.

These are just a handful of the shops in Luna and there are many. Prices may be a little higher than in the country but it can be one stop shopping. I encourage you to not just view vendors from the house sign but actually go into the plots. You may be surprised at what you see or what might inspire you.

EM Events, Chesapeake's Notification System and Royal Guard Office
By:Terence Duff

1.

What are EM events?

EM events (Event Moderated events) are official EA/OSI events that are tied in with ongoing UO fiction and sometimes, shard fiction. EM events often occur randomly and without warning. It's not uncommon to be sitting at the bank and see the town crier start shouting that an event is happening.

1.

How can I tell when an Event is going to take place? (notification system)

Although Events are quite random, Chesapeake has an Event Notification System located at the Royal Guard Office in Britain (see below). Green Gems mean no Event today or within the next while, Red Gems indicate an Event is about to take place and No Gems on the spot means that an Event is in progress somewhere on the shard.

1.

Who is Chesapeake's Commander of the Royal Britannian Guard?

Chesapeake's Commander of the Royal Britannian Guard is Keira Vaelen (also known as EM Nina) who was recently appointed (late Summer, 2005) to take over for Myrina Heron who departed during the Spring of 2005.

Click the image to open in full size.

1.

Where is Chesapeake's Royal Guard Office?

Chesapeake's Royal Guard Office is located in East Britain, just south of the East Britain Bank. It can also be found by sextant at 3o 15'S 21o 47'E.

1.

How do I get one of those cool red sashes?

Royal Guard Sashes are a symbol of membership to the Royal Guard and are often given out by the Commander of the Guard at the end of each event. If you happen to be lucky enough to attend an event, stick around afterward to see if the Commander will hand out sashes. Spamming "sash pls" or "OMG give me sash" often will hurt your chances at getting a sash and might even discourage the Commander from giving out sashes at that event.

1.

What is the RoC, and what will happen if I break the rules?

The RoC Stands for the Stratics Rules of Conduct which can be found here. The Rules of Conduct are meant to be followed and users who break them will be subject to warnings, or more seriously; temporary bans from the Stratics Network.

1.

Is it ok to post [OT] posts with funny jokes, quizzes, etc?

OT posts are not only OK, but they're also welcomed as long as long as they don't end up going too Off-Topic (heated political discussions, etc). Acceptable OT posts can contain various things, from jokes to quizzes to information about upcoming holidays (i.e. Christmas decor).

The Chesapeake Forum also has a special "Babble Thread" which is explained in detail below.

1.

Am I allowed to make posts with headers like [News], [ALERT!], etc?

Posts with titles such as [News], [Alert], [Important] and other uses of square brackets are reserved for use by Stratics Staff members only in order to alert Stratics Users of important information and events, as well as to help users easily identify official News posts. Using square bracket prefixes in your posts will result in having the post deleted and a warning sent to you via PM.

1.

How does the Babble Thread work?

The Babble Thread is a special kind of OT post that's sticky. The Babble thread is an ongoing Off-Topic discussion where the subject changes over time and is often random. Have an interesting tidbit about real-life that you want to mention? Stick it in the babble thread and discuss!

The current babble thread owes its creation to G.v.P who pioneered the idea. New babble threads may be created in the future. If you have an idea for a topic-specific one, don't hesitate to contact one of the Chesapeake Forum Mods about it!

1.

May I post Price Checks, and items for sale outside the Pricecheck/Sale threads?

The Price Check and Trade threads were created for the sole purpose of providing a clean location for these types of posts while being able to maximize exposure. However this does not mean that you absolutely MUST place your post there, it is primarily the ideal location for these posts. Therefore the short answer is: yes you may place these types of posts outside the special threads, but please be courteous and try not to fill the forum with only these types of posts.

1.

How do I submit articles, events and other news to the Chesapeake News Page?

Submitting news to Stratics is easy and open to anyone. The first rule is that "Almost anything is acceptable news"! And the second rule is "Anyone can send in news"!

Having a special event that requires a large attendance? Send news in!

Witness a unique event on the shard? Send it in!

Part of a player-town and have something to report? Send it in!

Attended an EM event, wrote an article and want to publish it? Send it in!

Pictures are highly encouraged!

To send news of an Upcoming Event, send an email to uochesapeak e@ stratics.com and be sure to list the following details:

    [*]

Event organizer's name and contact info

    [*]

    Event web page (if applicable)

    [*]

    Event date and time

    [*]

    Location of event and directions

    [*]

Description of event and things that will take place

    [*]

Any other information you feel is necessary

    [/list]

To send in a Written News Story, send an email to uochesapeak e@ stratics.com and be sure to list these details:

      [*]

      Article author

      [*]

      Title of Article

      [*]

      Article itself

      [*]

Any other details pertaining to the article, including pictures

      [/list]

Tidbits or 'tipoffs' about shard happenings when you don't want to write an article yourself are also welcomed, and the reporters at Stratics will be very thankful of you for making their jobs easier!

Articles are usually published the same-day or sometimes the next day. Be sure to allow for sufficient time for your article to be published. It is recommended that all Event Postings be sent in as-close-to-a-week-prior-as-possible in order for your event to gain maximum exposure. Sending in news at the last minute will often result in your article not getting published until too late.

There are a few exceptions to the rule of "Anything is Acceptable News", those are:

        [*]

Guild advertisements such as "We're Recruiting" (these may be posted on the relative Stratics Forums)

        [*]

Unconfirmed news items, or issues that may be slanderous or unfounded

        [*]

Anything that violates UO's Terms of Service or Stratics' Rules of Conduct such as mentions of player-ran shards or bugs/exploits

        [/list]

So send in your news today!

1.

How do I use the Events Calendar and ensure that the proper date and time shows up?

The Chesapeake Events Calendar is the perfect companion to your Event News Story and another easy-to-use function. Here's how:

One: Ensure that your Time Offset is set correctly so that your Event Calendar Post will appear as the correct time when other users view it. Often times events suffer from low participation because the Time Offset is set to default, resulting in an absurd time displaying like 12-Midnight.

To set your Time Offset go to the Stratics Forums Control Panel and at the bottom of that page, choose to edit "Display preferences, number of shown threads, languages, colors..." (or click here to access that page).

The third item down displays this:

Determine your time zone and enter the correct number into the box out of these choices:

    [*]

+3 for Eastern Time (New York, Atlanta, etc)

    [*]

+2 for Central Time (Chicago, Dallas, etc)

    [*]

+1 for Mountain Time (Utah, Colorado, etc)

    [*]

0 for Pacific/Western time (Seattle, California, Oregon, etc)

    [/list]

This will now let your post Event Calendar posts with accuracy and also see the correct times on all forum posts.

Two: Head to the Chesapeake Event Calendar (click here) where you are presented with a month view. Now click "Add" on the date that you want to place an event on.

Three: Fill in the details including Event Title, Date (date is already set if you have clicked on a day), Time of Event, and Event Description. Be sure to include the location of the event for all to find and if applicable, a link to your web page. Then press Continue!

Four: Wait! Posts on the Event Calendar require Approval and this can sometimes take as much as one day to complete. Once approved your event will be available for everyone to see and will also appear on the Chesapeake Forum above all posts.

B

What makes up the Chesapeake Community?

The Chesapeake Community is made up of player-towns, establishments, roleplayers, guilds, individuals and all others who are interested in giving a social life to Chesapeake.

1.

Yes. Each and every Wednesday Night at 9:00 pm EST the shard, together, puts on Chesapeake Community Night! Chesapeake Community Night is a chance for everyone from every facet and part of the shard to get together to have fun and/or accomplish large tasks, like quests or Champ Spawns. The Community Night formula is simple:

Attend Chesapeake Community Night and Propose an Event!

If your event sounds good, you'll soon have a number of people that will be following you, so lead on!

Come to participate? Then simply look for someone who's running an event and get involved!

Community Nights take place at the Skara Brae Community Center which is easy to find:

C

PvP Community, Fel Champ Spawns, Factions and Active PvP Areas
By:Terence Duff

1.

What are some of the largest PvP-oriented guilds on the shard?

Chesapeake's largest PvP Guilds are often, but not always listed in the top membership rankings of Guilds on UO.com. A quick glance at this list, as of 18/11/2005 shows these PvP guilds, ordered by number of members:

1.
  • Is it safe these days to do a Fel Champ Spawn by myself or with a few friends?

As anyone will tell you: be wary when venturing into Felucca, especially near Idols of the Champions. Many of the larger PvP guilds on the shard attempt to lay claim to Champ Spawns, utilizing a variety of methods ranging from repetitive hourly patrols to the popular 'ghost cam' method. Safety at Champion Spawns depends entirely on how fast you can complete the Spawn and how well you can defend from invaders. Stay sharp!

    1.

Are factions dead, or are they still hopping on Chesapeake?

Factions on Chesapeake are still running solid, although membership numbers are limited and most sigils and towns are constantly controlled by Chesapeake's major PvP guilds' Faction affiliate guilds.

More information on Chesapeake Factions is listed at this link.

    1.

Where are Chesapeake's hottest PvP areas?

  • Looking to kill, or be killed? Your best bet for instant fighting, like on any shard, is the Felucca Yew Moongate. Your second best option would be the Felucca Britain Moongate. Also be sure to visit the many Champ Spawns that litter Felucca, as most of the large PvP guilds frequent those areas hourly.

    1.

Are there regular PvP Contests, Tournaments or Fight Nights?

As of October 2005, the City Of PaxLair once again runs Friday Night Fights (continued after a summer break from hosting them). More information on Friday Night Fights can be found on PaxLair's Friday Night Fight Site.

CHAMPS! also runs tournaments from time to time. Their latest event was a 3-part competition called the Tournament of Champions which took place in October. The three categories were a Myaloium (mage battle), an Oploium (dexxer battle) and a Pankration (ultimate mixed battle). One additional event was a team battle Triathlon.

    E

    Shard History and Unique Places

    1.

What is the basic history of the Chesapeake Shard and its player-ran aspects?

A very brief precis of Chesapeake Community and RP History:

In 1997 Chesapeake was born. Within no-time mines were mined out, and gold was earned; which gave way to the first guilds on the shard. Among these guilds were community-based guilds like The Band and The Sillyhood, as well as player-killer guilds like Keepers of Chaos. In the days of only Felucca people had a tendency to stick together, and so several player towns were formed. Most famous of all was PaxLair, followed by Corwyn, Aryslan, Haven, Humility, Shadowcove, the Duir of Yew, Oberon Pass, Dragons Watch, the Olag Hai Orc Fort and the vampire town of Gehenna.

Within a year these towns had grown to such a level that player-governments were established along with inter-town co-operation setups, basically forming a "Chesapeake Community". Player towns in Felucca were not entirely safe though, and the PK guilds often appeared to collect taxes. A flourishing Community was host to literally dozens of daily scheduled events (weddings, trials, openings of taverns, poetry recitals, etc) as well as an uncountable number impromptu gatherings at such popular hangout locations as the PaxLair Saloon, Gehenna Spire, Duir Tavern, Black Rose Brewery and the Falconers Inn.

    Then came Trammel.

Many of the Feluccan towns and Establishments were abandoned for the PK-free lifestyle in Trammel, where new towns were started and new adventures were had. Some of the popular areas of Trammel included Mythndale, Silvervale, Nidaros, Casandreal, Akalabeth, Camelot and New Shadowcove. The Trammel era lasted a few years, but was brought to a halt with the opening of Malas.

The early Malas years were the end of organized player-ran activity, as Britannia's population dwindled. In the midst of this decline, new areas such as the Red Wolf Cafe of Gyldenfeld were born, along with similar small establishments. The old Feluccan towns suffered greatest during these days, and many had fallen into permanent ruin. PaxLair, once the most popular area on the shard was reduced to a startlingly small population and areas like Corwyn were actively packaged up, having their doors firmly bolted down with wood - for ever.

Chesapeake History changed once again with the creation of the Islands of Tokuno where PaxOku - an area of PaxLair - was founded. The Red Wolf Cafe and other independent establishments picked up in popularity and community seemed to stabilize with the creation of weekly "Chesapeake Community Nights" and the two-week victory over the Invasion of Britain by swarms of ratmen, trolls, ettins and ogres. Throughout these last few years, several of the shard's key leaders, including Winfield of PaxLair, Tancred RedStar and Xotche of Meade helped to bring about large, organized, community-wide player events called "Seasonal Festivals" which included Octoberfests, and Winter, Spring and Summer Festivals.

Which brings us to now. Where will Chesapeake be in a few years? Only time will tell!

    1.

Is there a list of former Establishments, Player Towns or Taverns?

The City of PaxLair has a highly comprehensive list of former community locations on Chesapeake. See here for that.

A Stratics list will be complied in the future.

    1.

Is there a list of Special, Blessed or otherwise Unique locations on Chesapeake?

There will be a Stratics list of these locations soon.

    1.

Where can I read Fawne Goldynhart's award winning tale of Chesapeake History?

Fawne Goldynhart's award-winning recollection of Chesapeake's History can be found here on the main page of Chesapeake-Stratics.

    1.

How can I become a part of Chesapeake History?

While this is a very broad question to answer, there are a few simple things that an individual can do to become a future part of Chesapeake History.

First: simply get involved. Attend Community Nights, player-ran events, visit player-towns and taverns and involve yourself with some of the more popular guilds on the shard.

Additionally, if you're so bold: start something new! New things are born on Chesapeake every day. Something like the Red Wolf Cafe, only a few years old now has just as much history and substance as a city such as PaxLair, which is entering its 8th year.

As well: act as a liaison between different groups in the community. Having a vast knowledge of the shard can empower you to meet with new people and help plan and run large-scale events like Seasonal Festivals, or Olympics.

And finally: stay informed. News is important as it builds your knowledge of all things going on and allows you to expand your horizons so that you have a more solid base on which to create something unique for the shard. And News is enjoyable too. Who knows, one day you could be on the other side of the pen!

Shopping Centers, Vendor Malls and Getting Around

    1.

Where are the best areas on the shard to shop for items?

The easiest to find, and most common shopping center is the city of Luna which often is also home to high and inflated prices. Other shopping areas are the Yew and Britain moongates, city of Zento, area of Gyldenfeld (Brit/Skara/Yew X Roads) and the areas outside Luna/Umbra.

    1.

I don't want to pay Luna prices, are there cheaper vendor malls elsewhere?

Just when you think you found the lowest price, there's always somebody who's selling it for lower!

Some of the best, and lowest priced vendors can be found in obscure locations like the middle of the jungle or along one of the many roads of Britannia. One of the best locations for cheap items is the small collection of vendor houses near Dungeon Destard in Trammel.

    1.

Where's the best place to sell my stuff?

In Game: try the Luna Bank first as it's the most popular bank. Also try the Britain Bank and Moonglow Bank.

Online: try our very own Buy/Sell/Trade thread on the Chesapeake Forum or one of the many online trade forum sites for UO.

    1.

Are there any good Rune Libraries?

Popular Rune Libraries (as of 18/11/2005):

    [*]

    Ariannah's Runes (Zento - 27o 9'N 34o 44'W)

    [*]

    fyr's fyry L-Shaped Rune Library (Yew Coast - 92o 32'N 40o 8'W)

    [*]

    Latobian's House of Merchants Library (Zento - 24o 52'N, 41o 50'W)

    [*]

    H-J Gate Rune Library (Homare-Jima Gate, Tokuno - 87o 21'N 72o 16'W)

    [*]

    Lord Escu Museum Library (Luna - 97o 59'N 19o 49'W)

    [/list]

Know of or run a Rune Library that's not on the list? PM Terence Duff!

    [*]

    [*]

    Lord Escu Museum Library (Luna - 97o 59'N 19o 49'W)

    [/list]

    [*]

    Lord Escu Museum Library (Luna - 97o 59'N 19o 49'W)

Know of or run a Rune Library that's not on the list? PM Terence Duff!

    2v2 PVP Tournament!
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, 6:15 AM EST by Andrasta (Atlantic)
    EM Spriggan:

The date and time is still TBD. Tentatively scheduled for this Friday at 6:00 PM EST if I get enough teams in time.

    Rules subject to change
    1. There will be 16 2-player teams that will be bracketed by me. Slots
are allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis. additional teams will
be kept in reserve in case a slotted team does not show. In the case
of an unexpectedly large number of submitted teams, the total number
of slots will increase to 32.

    2. The only template restrictions are no hiding and stealth, and pets will not be allowed - pvp does not stand for player versus pet. The only exceptions are for
regular horses, ostards, llamas, swampies, grizzled mares, or faction warhorses.

    3. Fighters may resurrect each other during combat.

    4. No precasting will be allowed, to include taking special forms such
    as wraith form.

    5. A res point with a red healer will be provided for the dead from
each round to safely resurrect and reequip.

    6. This is a single elimination tournament.

    7. The first team with both players dead at the same time is the loser - should both players die and a mount somehow kill the last opponent, they've still lost.

    8. Dying will not disqualify a team member, as long as your team wins the duel.

    9. Shooting or casting of any kind into the arena from the spectator
area is strictly prohibited, and may result in the caster being banned from this and possibly future tournaments (EM's discretion).

    10. All summon and field spells are banned from use in the tournament.

ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Any changes that occur will be posted here.

    How to submit your team
One of the team members should send an email to me at
    [email protected], listing the following:
    1. the names of each team member
    2. each team member's guild and faction affiliation (if any)
    3. each team member's skill template, including any skills gained from items.

Teams posted in the Stratics thread will not be considered an entry
until an email is received. Slots will be allocated in the order that I receive the emails, and when all the slots are filled I'll post it as an update here.

If everyone behaves then this event will become a regular occurrence.

Best of luck to all participants!
