Legends Tournament of Champions Canceled!

Posted on Friday, December 31, 2010, 2:35 PM EST by Rabid Chipmunk (LegendsAOL)
It is with great sadness that I inform the populace that Legends will not be holding a massive pvp tournament on the first weekend on January. There has not been nearly enough interest (4 official entries so far) to warrant the amount of time and resources I was planning on putting into the event. I apologize to anyone who may have been considering attending.

Note:

I am slowly running out of "reward" items, if anyone wants to donate please contact me thru pm or icq (608436665). Thank you, and thank you to everyone who has already donated.

Third time's the charm... hopefully. Same setup as with our Paintball event. Come naked and with nothing in your pack. Once everyone is gathered at the entrance to the dungeon, and everyone has been snooped. You will be told to "GO", the first person to make it thru 3 checkpoints alive and wind up at the bottom of the dungeon wins the goody bag. There will be surprises planned, and hidden... Keep your eyes open.

Rules:

* No hiding/stealthing

* Have fun

(January 10th - 16th)

Date: Saturday, January 15th, 2011 (1/15/11)
Event: Find Fluffy 4
Location: ?
Time: 9:00pm EST
Host: a Fluffy Bunny

On the above date, I will post a screen shot of me at a random place, the first person to find me, wins. For FF4 I am changing it up a little bit, I will place a screen shotup still, but I will also offer a riddle in general chat, and I won't necessarily be in Fel.

Event: Bear Hunt
Location: Arena
Time: 9:00pm EST
Host: Mentiras

For anyone that has played the classic game where you shoot the bear and he walks back and forth, you may already get where this is going... For those that don't; on the above date meet in luna with a new character with 50 archery, gates will be provided to the arena. The objective is to make the "bear" walk out the same side of the arena that he enters. If you cannot, at least hold him in the arena for as long as possible.

(January 17th - 23rd)

Date: Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 (1/22/11)
Event: Paintball!
Location: Shadow's *NEW* Paintball Arena (gates provided)
Time: 9pm - ?
Host: Shadow

Come naked and with nothing in your pack, you will be given a bag of 50 explosion potions and seperated into two teams, red and blue. Last man standing's team wins. Advantages that you may want to take note of are: Alchemy and Resist Spells. Overall this is just for fun.

Event: Living Snake
Location: Arena
Time: 9pm EST
Host: Mentiras

For those interested, meet at Luna bank at the appropriate time, gates will be provided. Once everyone is at the arena you will all be handed a bag containing 25 crates. Two people at a time will then try and box each other in, the winner being the one with the most "leg room".

(January 24th - 31st)

Date: Saturday, January 29th, 2011 (1/29/11)
Event: Clue!
Location: Gates will be provided
Time: 9pm EST
Host: Mentiras

The settlement has been made official! We have recieved our banner and are holding opening ceremonies with a game of Clue! For those unfamiliar with the game, it is a murder mystery, players will have to figure out who the murderer is, while said murderer tries and misleads them.

If deemed worthy the mongbat king may even show up... hes always looking for new subjects...

An Interview With EM Ikaris
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Friday, December 31, 2010, 1:36 PM EST by Rabid Chipmunk (LegendsAOL)
Because Em Ikaris has been such a busy person lately, this interview was conducted via crystal ball, so there will be no accompanying pictures this time.

DevilsOwn: Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings of wax melted... oops! What's the hottest spot you've ever been in?

Em Ikaris: My day job can get up to 110 in the summer, but a better answer would be the beaches of Cancun.

DevilsOwn: When traveling the lands of Sosaria: do you travel alone or with a group?

Em Ikaris: In a group 80% of the time..the other 20% I do my own thing. That is one of the great things about this game..you can have it anyway you like.

DevilsOwn: What is your preferred method of battle when encountering belligerent beasts?

Em Ikaris: I really like playing my Disco Mystic Gargoyle, but for straight resource gathering you can't beat an old a fashion Sampire.

DevilsOwn: Legends has a smaller population than some, does that influence the storyline/encounters you plan?

Em Ikaris: It does to a certain extent, but from what I have seen the Legends crowd can handle anything.

DevilsOwn: If you could be granted one wish from the gods (developers) what would it be?

Em Ikaris: Some way to do smaller group/party based events for folks and still have it be fair for everyone. That way you can do the event with your guild or who you like and not have to worry about griefers and such, but everyone still gets a chance to do the event.

Me: Whats it like being the "new Em" on the block?

Em Ikaris: Meh, its like your first day of High School and getting to hang out with all the jocks and cheerleaders....NOT! Ha! I received a very warm welcome and feel right at home off the bat.

Me: What do you think of the Legends community, and is there anything you would change?

Em Ikaris: So far it is very similar to other shards I have experienced, except I have not found that hardcore Role Player group I have seen other shards. Maybe I will soon.

Me: What has been your favorite experience so far? Least favorite?

Em Ikaris: Hmmm.. well I have not been around that long, but doing my first event was fun and I cannot recall a worst experience so far.

Me: When your not planning or running events, what are you doing?

Em Ikaris: Well I enjoy long walks on the bea...nah! I do photography as a hobby and have a nice sized family so they keep me running.

Me: What hints can you leak to us about upcoming fun?
  Spoiler: show
Em Ikaris: Let's see...hints...*looks into his crystal ball*..I see black and white...many shades of gray...OH! and a gold chest!...and ummm...someone yelling "SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!"..dunno if that helps.

Em Ikaris: Thanks for the interview guys! Legends seems to be a real cool place and I look forward to lots more fun.

A ride too early...

The morning sun shown far too bright for winter, magnified and intensified by the thin clouds that had gathered just before dawn. Danica covered her head with her pillow and tried to go back to sleep, there was nothing happening, no reason to get up so early. The space between the Winter Solstice and New Years Day is always one of tired laziness and sloth, the world seems to shut down, or otherwise is in bad temper and ill humor. Not worth waking up for.

Outside a familiar voice crowed, "Defenders of Vesper triumph against the invading forces of Virtue Bane!"

Danica sat straight up in bed, the recent invasions she had heard about in conversation, how they seemed to be slowly growing in strength but so far it was nothing that the realm could not easily send into retreat. But there was something else...

The dreamy haze clouded her mind, "Vesper... Vesper... Nothing but fishing, shipping and orphans Vesper." Danica thought as she struggled to return to sleep.

"Orphans!" Danica shouted as she sat straight up in her bed. "Addie!" She again yelled aloud.

Danica raced on horseback to the moongate, wearing only a dress but with her sword and shield in hand.

Her knights had taken an interest in the boy during her slumber, surely someone had checked on him? An innkeeper and bar-mistress were no match to defend against the Bane...

When she arrived, Vesper seemed very much intact. She found a few people with their dragons, and tried to inquire but was ignored.

Her horse raced her south toward the youth hostel, and she kicked the door open only to find Hunter the Innkeeper reading Addie a book.

They both looked up at her with a start.

What a fright Danica looked, her hair undone, her dress undone in the back so it hung and seemed loose in the wrong places, half asleep and wind torn from the fast gallop from Jhelom.

Danica smiled and swung her shield onto her back.

"Glad to see you are ok Addie..." She said as she sat down to help Addie with his numbers.

The boy had grown in this quiet season, one Britannian year had passed since he had been found wandering the isle of Pride.

"Twenty Seven, Twenty Eight, Twenty Nine, Thirty!" Finished the five year old with a proud smile as he wrote the numbers in his book.

Hiro Protaganist Putting On The Ritz ~

My old nieghbor and friend Hiro Protaganist ( a.k.a. Demoness Mentia and many others ) has been working on one of his houses for a long time. It has not only taken him time but a lot of gold to achieve the homey and stylish decor he favors.

A couple of months ago he dropped a book and a marked rune to the area in the realm in which he owns several plots, some with vendors. It has taken me this long to actually check it out and what a treat! All his plots in this area 5o 38'N, 38o 44'E are open to the public. He/she encourages all to take a tour of this labor of love. In the Shadow of Virtue: Victory to the Virtue's Bane.
By WarderDragon.

The Freeborn Press has confirmed that the Bane Chosen - revealed to be the Servants of the Infernal Lord Virtue Bane - has conquered the rural farming Village of New Skara Brae. The Legions of Queen Dawn and the Ophidian Vanguard have issued a full retreat from the Spiritwood Forest.

This comes on the heels of Queen Dawn's failure to defend - or recapture - the Stronghold of Gideon; which fell to the Cartel Federation not more than seven evenings ago.

In an ironic twist of fate - and contrary to the most dire proclamations of Britannian Royalists and the Friends of Queen Dawn - the Chosen have not engaged in any of the genocidal slaughter or tyrannical oppression of the Dark Enchantress and Lord Casca the Deceiver. In fact, Citizens opened their doors this morning in fear, only to find the dragons departed, the legion of armed soldiers vanished and the city left intact. The Markets have reopened. Trade has resumed. Shopkeepers were told to unbar their shutters and commence business as usual. The only visible difference is the hulking Bane Liches, who patrol the streets and quell any signs of armed resistance to their rule.

Those watching the struggle between the Britannians and the Chosen debate the nature of their aforementioned leader. It is speculated that he - Virtue's Bane - is the demon behind the destruction of Magincia; but supporters of the Bane Chosen are quick to counter that it was the Britannians who turned the carnivorous beasts on the Magincians, hoping to profit from the trade ports demise. Britannians claim the Bane Chosen wage a war of murder and conquest; but the Chosen argue this is a War of Liberation from a Queen aligning herself with the same Ophites that slaughtered countless Northerners and Papuans during the First and Second Ophidian Wars.

The answer might be found in the writings of the enigmatic Loremaster Argent; who speculated that demons act as a sort of Enforcer in the Balance of Virtue. It is not that the Pit Lords and Fiends are Servants of the Virtues themselves - the Princes of Hel are the closest thing to true and unadulterated evil in the Universe - but instead the dark denizens of the Infernal Void are able to manifest themselves in the absence of Virtue, where they prey upon the weak.

Despite the apparent submissiveness of the Ranger Council since the Fall of Skara Brae, pockets of resistance have sprung up in defiance of Virtue Bane. Two Britannian Knights - an archer and a swordsman - led a hit and run campaign against the Bane Liches late this last evening across the Northern Coast, while the Cartel and the Spawners Corperation have led their own uprisings in the City Proper; harassing the Dark Guardians with reckless abandon.

Continue to follow the Freeborn Press for further developments in this Saga.

Not only can one find symbols but also traditions like gift giving and of course that big old jolly bearded man in red. Most importantly it is a celebration of love and mirth !

Holiday Hunts, Carols, and Death

Posted on Friday, December 24, 2010, 12:00 PM EST by Brytt (Baja)
On Baja, we have somewhat of a family dynamic. We laugh, we cry, everyone knows everyone, sometimes we squabble (especially over presents!) and inevitably someone shows up drunk and embarrasses everyone. But then this wonderful thing happens and we're gathered up from all of our busy corners of Baja to share in drinks, good company, and the holiday spirit. The seasons of yuletide bring peace and joy to our little corner of Britannia.

EM Crysania brought folks together at the Skaran Fairegrounds for an evening of scavenger hunts, caroling and last-man-standing.

At first, the holiday scavenger hunt got off to a bit of a bumpy start, no thanks to some grinch who took all the clue books. Still, the little Baja-Whos picked up and took the clues from Crysania manually in order to finish the hunt, anyway!

Next up was caroling. The singing began with a recitation by Grand Duchess WildStar of Dawn of a historically significant "'Twas the Night Before Christmas", in true Dawn tradition.

Next, shy Peter Tarrant timidly approached the stage, but picked up his courage to belt out, "You're a Mean One, Yat-ter-ing!"

The Golden Knights shared a rendition of what their EM gave to them, in the "Twelve Days of Christmas". Golden Rings? No, Golden Knights, I said.

Navigator came on stage perhaps carrying with her the odor of cookies recently given to the mutant elf, because her song was entitled, "Rudolph the Red-Skinned Mutant".

Stratos followed with his rendition of "O Beautiful Star of Bedlam"

At one parental-guidance-suggested moment during the Caroling, Fern Goodfellow (who up to this point had been wearing a decidedly demure, not-like-Fern-at-all red robe) dropped her layers to sing a private holiday song just for EM Seppo....

Seppo, baby, slip a rare pelt under the tree
For me.
Been an awful good girl, Seppo baby,
So hurry down the chimney tonight.

Seppo, baby, a diamond-collared unicorn, too —
Light blue!
I'll wait up for thee, dear Seppo baby
So hurry down my chimney tonight. (*winks*)

Think of all the fun I've missed.
Think of all the Dread Lords that I haven't kissed.
Next year I could be oh soooooooooooo good
If thou'd just check my Yuletide list!

(Boo-boo-be-do)

Seppo, honey, want Minoc and well, really that's -- not a lot
Been an angel all year, Seppo baby.
So hurry down my chimney tonight.

Seppo, honey, there's one thing that I really do need — the deed
To a Castle all mine, Seppo baby,
So hurry down my chimney tonight.

Come and trim my Yuletide tree
With gems and gold and every fabulosity.
I really do believe in thee.
Let's see if thou believes in me (*blows kiss*)

Seppo, baby, forgot to mention one little thing — a ring
Blessed, of course, all my own, Seppo baby
So hurry down the chimney tonight.

Of course, what holiday EM gathering would be complete without a last-man-standing competition with mobs who escape from their cages and massacre the spectators?

Eventually, the spawns were restrained and several impressive feats of survival skills were displayed, including an especially long one by Cebo.

A great evening of holiday revelry... Thanks, Crysania!

Shortly after a "HO HO HO" sounded across the realm!
Only one person who could say it like that.
Santa walked in the counselor's hall, jolly as he always is.

He first gave EM Eulia a small gift for all hard work she did in the last days.
Then he started to pass a small bag of cookies and eggnog to all the people at the party.
It was only a small gift but people where pleased with the little gift he brought for the good people of Drachenfels.

He did worry he had not let his elf's made enough cookies.
Good thing that Santa's bag seemed to had no end with treats.

The Imp that Almost Stole Christmas
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Thursday, December 23, 2010, 10:47 PM EST by Zuckuss (Catskills)
Last evening many good-hearted citizens of of Britannia responded to a plea for help from an unlucky bank manager.

The request was posted on message boards all over the lands.

The message read:

"To all Kind-Hearted and Able Bodied Adventurers,
Sometime in the previous evening a strange, terrible theft occurred at the Mint of Vesper! There was no damage done to any of the vault rooms, and the robbers did not take any of the deposits or reserves, but instead made off with a room full of donated gifts. These donations came from the citizens of Vesper who came together for the holidays in support of the town’s orphans
(some of whom had only just lost their parents in recent conflict). Local investigators have not come up with any answers, and I am at my wit’s end! I need your help.
Please, if any of you could find it in your hearts to come to the aid of these children, and save their holiday season, meet me outside the bank in Vesper in two nights. With any luck, we will find the stolen gifts and bring those responsible to Justice!

Sincerely,
Karel, Bank Manager of the Mint of Vesper"

The event began when Lucien addressed the group of concerned citizens, preparing them for the arrival of Bank Manager Karel.

Karel eventually arrived. He explained to all that a vault inside the Vesper mint had been robbed! He noted that there was no damage done to the door, nor did the lock seem to be tampered with.

Karel spoke,

"As you know from my announcement
Someone has committed a terrible act
A vault full of presents that was to be given to the town's orphans
Has been stolen!"

Many citizens stared on... stunned.

Karel continued,

"Alas, the fault falls on my shoulders
As the bank manager, it was my duty to protect them
Our local investigators have turned up few clues
So I appeal to you to help in the search
What I can tell you so far
Is that the vault door was not damaged
And the lock does not appear to have been picked
Karel the Bank Manager: Nobody could identify the thief that night
There was however one local citizen, Robert the Caterer
Who was working late that night in the area
And may have seen something
but he has not been cooperative
I ask that you all search the town for clues, and talk to Robert if he is about."

At the conclusion of Karel's message, the party had begun to disperse throughout Vesper in search of Robert the Caterer.

Robert was found several minutes later and was questioned rapidly by the mob.

When asked if he had seen or heard anything about the stolen presents, Robert said,
"Aye, I heard they were stolen. I've already explained I didn't see much."
He further went on to explain that he saw "a blur of red moving from roof to roof" and insisted that he had "nothing to do with it."

Upon further investigation, several gifts were found scattered throughout Vesper, some of them on roof-tops. It was found by Lucien that the presents were indeed a trail that lead southwest all the way to Cove...

Lucien explained that the gifts were taken to the Orc Fort south of Cove and warned everyone that the fort was overrun by imps and mutant fairies!

Lucien's men were not strong enough to fight at the fort alone, but many citizens volunteered their assistance to retrieve the gifts back for the orphans.

Karel, opened a gate, and all of the people walked though.... and then engaged in battle with:

Christmas Elementals
Enraged Fairies
Angry Sugar Plum Fairies
Essence of Eggnogs
Wreath Wraiths
and Merry Menaces

The battle went on for quite some time and was quite bloody but the Christmas creatures were defeated none the less.

After the dust had settled, people had found a couple unique items they had never seen before.

There were several reports of people finding "hat of the holiday hooligan" and "a sack of present purloining."

The stock of gifts were found in a small room within the fort. Karel arrived on the scene and took back all of the gifts from the room. Shorty after, they were transported back to Vesper and put safely back in to the vault. The citizens of Britannia had all assisted in the returning of the gifts and the final congregation was in Vesper.

Not long after securing the gifts. A red Imp arrived at the group. A brief exchange between the Imp and Karel took place:

"An Imp:
He Ho Hum.
Merry....well...nothing!

Karel the Bank Manager:
Ahhahaha!
*swats at head*

An Imp: *laughs*

Karel the Bank Manager: get off!

An Imp: Did you all have fun??

Karel the Bank Manager: Who are you?

An Imp:
He ho humm!
I stole the presents from this mint...
For the Orcs!

Karel the Bank Manager: What?! Why?

An Imp:
*laughs*
Why not?? Don't orcs deserve presents!!

An Imp: *laughs*

Karel the Bank Manager: No, they are....orcs!

An Imp: Why do the kids get to have all the fun?

Karel the Bank Manager: Wh...who....what...are you?

An Imp:
What and who?
I'm not a what nor a who.
I'm a reflection of you
*laughs*

Karel the Bank Manager:
Oh my
*wrings hands*

An Imp:
So how are all the orc boys and girls going to get their presents now?
You all ruined it

Karel the Bank Manager: But they are orcs! Vile creatures if there ever was!

An Imp: I should burn this village down! *laughs hysterically*

Karel the Bank Manager: I doubt that these people would let you do that!

An Imp: Oh one day you'll understand..

Karel the Bank Manager: They have protected it from far worse than a strange imp!

An Imp:
Isn't it the season of giving? You all are selfish
Oh don't worry

Karel the Bank Manager:
Give...monsters...gifts? Oh my
*wrings hands*

An Imp:
The fun hasn't ended..
*laughs*
Any gifts you give I'll steal
and dump them in the ocean!
*laughs*

Karel the Bank Manager: Where are you going?

An Imp:
What's it?
Who's it? Whats a whosit?

Karel the Bank Manager: Someone get that imp!

An Imp:
I think you should try again! *laughs*
Maybe one day You'll catch me
But your eyes are quicker than your feet!
And my feet are quicker than your eyes!
Ehehehe!

Karel the Bank Manager:
Where did he go!?
Where is he?
Is he gone?
Oh my
*wrings hands*
I DO hope he doesn't return"

The Imp departed, however many folks knew not what to make of the Imp's threats. Would he really come back... Would he really throw someones presents in the Ocean?

Shifting back to the crowd, Karel thanked everyone for their help, reassuring everyone that the gifts were indeed safe. He told all of the citizens to visit Luna for a surprise.

Santaven was at Luna Bank awaiting everyone and began to hand out gifts to the crowd. He wore a white robe with a red hat, and would laugh "Ho Ho Ho!"

Two statues were placed. One was a snowman, the other a nutcracker. The magical statues provided each patron with one gift per statue.

The naughty folks received rocks.
The nice received a bell.

Santaven visited for a bit, and soon announced his departure for Britain Bank in Felucca... and then... Yew Gate.

The Felucca residents were given spoiled milk and chocolate pie.

People lined up and waited patiently at Britain Bank.

Sadly, Yew was a different story.

Thank you Santa for making a stop on Atlantic at such a busy time of year.
I know everyone waits in anticipation for your big journey Christmas eve.

Have we been good enough all year for our dreams to come true?
Or have we been unkind and bad all year and will awake Christmas morning to find coal in our stockings?
We'll know soon!

[RP Event Story] Yule Gathering at the Knights Rest Tavern
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 12:48 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<The Village of Aegis and the Freehold of Roses held their “Yule gathering and party” last Sunday (December 19th 2010) at the Knight’s Rest Tavern. The building was adorned inside and out with festive decorations that set the perfect holiday mood for anyone that visited it. There was even a purple sea serpent named “Merry Christmas” swimming around in the pond in front of the tavern. The party itself took place on the first floor where a warm Yule log blazed in the fireplace chasing away the chills from the cold snow filled air outside.

Sage (Rose) acting as the hostess welcomed everyone that came in the door and handed each person a small satchel that contained small gifts such as gingerbread cookie, a box of tea and an apple. Eggnog was also provided for everyone in attendance. Soon afterwards Sage asked if anyone was willing to share a story or a song on the subject of giving. For this is the season of giving and forgiving too.

Sage herself set the tone with a tale about a dark man and a light man and a stolen small wildflower, which turned out to be a story about Sage herself. Chryssie Solic was next and she sang a well know Holiday song with only the joy a child could during the holiday season. This brought a warm feeling to all that was gathered together in friendship this fine evening. Anne Nomilly followed Chryssie with a tale of a little selfless girl who missed her father that was far away and the special gift Santa Claus bestowed to her. Rhett Terith was next with a tale of two men with hunched backs and was a virtues tale of caution and remembering to be respectful of others.

The next part of the evening was a fun filled game of “Stuff the Horse”. The objective of the game is to see how many people you can put inside one of the new rocking horses without anyone being seen. Each team fitted 5 people into the horse ending this funny game in a tie.

After that everyone who had dressed in their holiday best was called forward to be judged on how nice they looked. Anne Nomilly, Shinigami, Elder EM Kasaven and Aphroditie all competed each taking a turn to model their ensemble for the gathered crowd. Anne Nomilly won the competition, but it was a very hard choice for any judge to make.

Sage and Aedon Durreah followed this up with a duet to entertain the light hearted people full of the holiday spirit. The evening downstairs at the Knights Rest ended with Anne Nomilly being declared the winner of the storytelling event to with her moving tale of a Childs giving heart.

Most everyone moved the party upstairs to the tavern part of the building for some friendly banter and a few libations, but Elder EM Kasaven was soon pulled outside by Aedon for some strange reason. Aedon soon returned and asked everyone to follow him outside, and the group did. He led everyone a short distance away where there burned a fire surrounded by benches set up in a square shape around it. On the far log sat EM Santaven and EM Barnaby was there too wearing a festive red hat. Each person took a turn going up and telling EM Santaven what they wanted for Christmas and then took a seat on one of the benches around the fire. When everyone had taken their turn EM Santaven announced that was going to spread the holiday spirit in Luna and left the party. Leaving everyone to reflect on what was a fun and laugh filled evening of friends spending time together in the spirit of the holidays.

[Live Event] BREAKING NEWS: Bane Army Strikes Moonglow!!!!!

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<

Today (Tuesday 2ist of December 2010) the Bane Army has struck the island city of Moonglow. The fighting in the city appears to be light at the present time, but the bane has sent in some of their tougher troops in their attempt to take control of the city. Visitors to the city are warned to be ready for combat and to go there prepared.

Rumors abound that the Lyceaeum is presently overrun with Bane troops and is surrounded by Britannian defenders at this time. It has also been noted that Meer troops have been seen outside the East gate into Moonglow. The Ophidians also have troops spotted deployed just north of the Meer troops. Leaving the island a possible massive combat zone that no one is sure who controls at this time.

At the present time it is unknown if the Bane army has plans to reinforce the units they already have in the city. The RBG members already engaged in combat in the city have high hopes of driving the Bane troops out quickly, and are ready to redeploy as a rapid response team to wherever the bane forces strike next.

There are rumors of crystals carried by some of the Bane troops and them having certain powers. These are being looked into by some of the finest mages in the land and more information about them will be forthcoming.

All able bodied warriors and mages are asked to please come save this city so it can have peace this coming holiday.

Yesterday afternoon (Monday 20th of December 2020) the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus took the time to visit the good boys and girls of the Catskills shard. Santa and his reindeer settled into one of the upper rooms in the central section of Luna and shared holiday cheer with anyone who wished to come see him. Not only did he share his well wishes for everyone to have a great holiday but he brought eggnog and gingerbread cookies for all the good boys and girls who visited him.

Due to his busy schedule getting ready for his yearly trip, he could only visit for a short time and at a time many people could not make it. He is sorry that he missed so many of you, but did enjoy the tour a few of you gave him of our fair grounds.

So from Santa and the entire Stratics staff here on Catskills... “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!!!!!”

Imp Spotted on the High Seas!!!
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 6:58 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Following is a true tale of a spotting of the imp that tried to ruin a EM event a few months ago. Everyone is to keep a eye our for him for I am sure he is not done with our EM team or the people of our fair lands.

It was a fine day when me and mine crew for dis trip, (all recruited from the finest port town taverns ye ever been in) spotted an orc pirate ship on the horizon. Well dis being what we be out hunting for so da order was given to give full sail and raise our colors. Sharkeye Pike (UP), a master sailor who could sail the largest ship through a eye of an sail repair needle, was at the wheel and pulled us within range of our mighty cannons. I Malice (O*S) was manning da bow heavy cannon, and was loading it and firing as fast as I could in our attempt to take this prize. The other two crew members the ladies Shadow Walker (O*S), who could shoot a flea off an orcs head at 40 paces, and Shinigami, a much feared pirate in her own right, and her pet dragon Bakanishi, who provided needed muscle for boarding actions, rounded out da crew.

Da action was hot and heavy as we traded cannonballs, arrows and spells with the feared dread pirate Fat Face Barnaby and his all orc crew. Still with a crew as skilled as the da one on me ship “Bloody Plunder” I knew we would win out, and we did. We shelled his ship till it stopped and killed all his so called crew. Than we sent a boarding party over and captured Fat Face Barnaby after a spirited fight. As normal Fat Face Barnaby was transferred to the Bloody Plunder to be taken back and turned in for a reward. Shadow Walker and meself remained on the pirate ship to loot it of any goods we could find on board, while Sharkeye and Shinigami started our ship for home. We would always use magic to rejoin dem on the trip back. Only dis time Shadow Walker and me were surprised.

For as we just finished cleaning out da last chest when what should pop on da deck but a little green imp. I blinked twice at it and almost swore off rum forever as I stared at this creature that came out of nowhere. The imp then laughed at us as it slowly slipped into my brain that I had seen this imp before. Aye, for I had been at the da fair grounds, with many landlubbers, when this very imp had appeared and stolen EM Barnaby’s welcoming sashes. Dis one was a prankster but a powerful one who could summon many monsters at a snap of his tiny fingers. I quickly tossed a pigeon up to my ship requesting they turn around and come help us.

The imp did speak to us then and said, “Impressive you are! Killed the false greenie you did!” he then laughed again as he danced around the deck. Shadow Walker found the nerve to speak up to him as I saw our ship coming from a distance to help us. “ummmm, aye. We captured him!” The imp tilted its head and with a smile replied back to her, “Did you!?” All Shadow Walker could do was nod her head yes back to him. That be when I also spoke to this creature letting it know how I felt, “Aye and did a fine job at it too. Fat Face Barnaby is ours!” The imp then stepped towards me, “I can has him then?” it asked before starting to laugh and dance again. Shadow Walker answered him while trying to buy us some time as we both watched our ship closing in on us, “Well,I guess you could maybe poke at him...". This answer made the imp very happy as he mumbled to himself, “Poke! Good fun!” The Bloody Plunder then pulled up beside the wrecked pirate ship as Shadow Walker pointed at it and said, “He's on dat ship!” Once again I wanted to get the point across that Barnaby was ours to do what we pleased with, “Barnaby is ours to turn in!” I spat at the imp. The imp though was not listening to me as he eyed the pirate chained to a pole on the deck of the Bloody Plunder; “He is there!” was all that came out of his mouth. Shadow Walker nodded to the imp as she added her part to their conversation, “All tied up!” all I could do was point out the obvious to the imp by saying “Aye there he be.”

The imp rushed to the pirates ships rail nearest the Bloody Plunder while yelling, “The false Greenie!” and then breaking out laughing a mad laugh. Sharkeye Pike stood on the Plunder with his mouth wide open only muttering, “A talking imp!” While Shinigami looked confused and also repeated Pike, “Talking imp?” That was when the imp leaped over the rail and onto the Plunders deck. with a wide grin he said in jest, “Permission to come aboard capeetin?” as the imp bounced over to the pirate chained to the pole.

Both Shadow Walker and meself quickly jumped to the Plunder too as she kept her conversation going with the imp, “We be hauling him in.” I also added my thoughts too, “Aye for his just punishment.” This caused the imp to frown as Pike joined in, “We might sell ‘im fer good gold at da Sea Market.” Shinigami giggled at Pikes comment then. The imp looked at all of us before answering, “But why? Think of all the FUN you could have with him!”

Pike being the pirate he is took a step towards the imp while saying, “I figger a talkin’ imp might get us lots a gold!” while Shinigami nodded her head while saying “aye! Good idea Pike. That is rare.” The imp was still trying to make his point though, “Poke him all day you could!” as the imp started dancing again. I muttered, “I do like poking em.” To try and keep the imp in a good mood while Shinigami looked delighted as she watched the imp dance. “It dances too!” Pikes mind was on one track though as he took another step towards the imp. “Or we display da talkin’ imp fer a charge.” Once again Shinigami agreed with Pike, “Good idea!” The imp laughed and danced farther away down the deck as Pike pondered his future with the imp. “I can lock him in me cellar.” Shinigami once again supported Pike, “We can make lots of gold!” The imp just grinned and winked” You can try!” Pikes mind was lost in his new rich world at the time. “Take gold frum landlubbers for showin’ him off…” Muttered Pike as he closely watched the imp.

The imp bantered with me and mine crew teasingly, for a while longer, offering Pike a partnership while slyly challenging Pike to try and take him prisoner. Till da imp grew bored with us and left us with dis message. “If you see the other Barnaby. My regards you should give him.” Then the imp leaped over the ships rail. We all rushed to see if he was lost at sea but there was no sign of him at all.

So for all ye sailors who be out at da seas keep ye eyes open for that little green imp. Me be thinking he be up to no good.

You may be interested in the following announcement:

The Golden Brew Players are pleased to announce

OPEN AUDITIONS

for our next performance!

The title, which is currently a semi-closely guarded secret, is a high theatre comedy and will be performed the evening of Thursday, February 10th, 2011, as a part of the celebration of the 13th Anniversary of the Kingdom of Dawn, on Baja. This is the Players' largest production since Alice, Through the Looking Glass and will feature Kita Talith, principal director of the Golden Brew Players, in a lead acting role for the first time. Brytt Heathard will debut as assistant director.

We are looking for four talented and committed actors from any shard to join our Baja cast! Rehearsals begin in January and interested actors should count on two rehearsals per week (typically starting around 6PM or 7PM PST), plus dress rehearsals. A serious commitment is required, and we promise you won't forget your experience!

The following lead roles (with vague descriptions) are open, and can be played on alts of any skill level:

  • Male role: a character of nobility
  • Male role: a stuffy, uptight villain
  • Male role: an inadvertently comic buffoon
In addition, we are seeking a swordsman or fencer for the following role:
  • Male role: a talented swordsman
Finally, we are interested in one or two extras/understudies who perhaps cannot commit to the full schedule but are interested in participating.

If you are interested in participating in this unique experience, please prepare a short monologue, scene, or musical performance (you can use OOC material but no longer than five minutes, please) and come to the King's Men Theater in West Britain, Baja Trammel to audition.

(Hint: It's the holiday, so no need to overdo - we're going to keep auditions pretty relaxed. We're looking for actors who can recite lines fairly quickly, accurately, and pepper in some emotes and character movement, plus we'll be asking about your interest level and schedule.)

Audition Schedule:
This Thursday, December 23rd (that's right, the day before Christmas Eve) at 7PM PST / 10PM EST

Please bring:

Rehearsals are taken seriously and the final product reflects hundreds of hours of actor work, writer editing, and stagehand preparation. Applicants are reminded that rehearsal schedules involve real time commitment, flexibility, and the willingness to compensate for any of a hundred things which typically try to go wrong in a professional performance.

To all Kind-Hearted and Able Bodied Adventurers,

Sometime in the previous evening a strange, terrible theft occurred at the Mint of Vesper! There was no damage done to any of the vault rooms, and the robbers didn’t take any of the deposits or reserves, but instead made off with a room full of donated gifts. These donations came from the citizens of Vesper who came together for the holidays in support of the town’s orphans (some of whom had only just lost their parents in recent conflict).

Sincerely,

Karel, Bank Manager of the Mint of Vesper

[EM] A Special Holiday Request from the Catskills EM Team
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Monday, December 20, 2010, 12:42 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills)

Our esteemed EM team of Elder EM Kasaven and EM Barnaby has a special request of the residents of the Catskills Shard. They are asking for donations of holiday decorations be given to be used in a special project of theirs. These donated decorations will be used to turn Luna into a festive representation of the shards Yule time spirit. Hopefully enough decorations will be collected that the mere sight of Luna will melt any Grinch’s heart.

Elder EM Kasaven has asked that these donations be placed in the EM mailbox over the next two days (Dec 20th and 21st) so that he will have enough time to work on Luna and have it ready for the holiday proper. The EM Mailbox can be found at the ”Center for Wedding Services” that is the small 7x7 building found just west of the EM’s Meeting Hall in north central Britain Trammel side. For those of you who are not that familiar with the Halls location it is a bit west of the Blackthorne’s Castles entrance.

(As of the time I am writing this the mailbox was filled completely up. Please hold on to your decorations till either our EM’s clear out the mailbox or place another place to drop donations.)

Roleplaying a Chef: Magdalena Canzione featured on TGN Taverns and Tales.

Roleplaying a Chef - The Cooking Skill in RP.
By Bryelle Vaughn of Atlantic.

Magdalena Canzione of Queen Shieba's Alliance [QSA] was visited three evenings ago by Bryelle Vaughn of the Order of the Ebon Skull [OES]. The two spent the evening discussing food and the preparation of a feast fit for a Dark Queen.

You can view the original article here.

Roleplaying the Cooking Skill

Cooking "is a form of flattery....a mischievous, deceitful, mean and ignoble activity, which cheats us by shapes and colors, by smoothing and draping...."
Plato (427-347 B.C.) Greek philosopher
('Choice Cuts' by Mark Kurlansky, 2002)

Between the grassy knolls of Baja there lies tell of a magnificent artist. She toys not with paintbrush or with quill. Instead, her canvas is the plate and she marks each piece with it's own special blend of color. Her tools are common place. The use, however, is not.

Whether it is Old Skarish Honey Glazed Ham or Ki-Rin Tartar, each place setting is marked indelibly with something better than color. It is marked with taste. Magdalena is the best kind of creative as her masterpieces are not only pleasant to the eye, but also to the palate and stomach.

I made my journey to her home Shard to put her renowned skills to the test. A task set in my head, I was greeted by a rather bubbly figure I would come to know as Magedalena's Niece. One gate later, we arrived on the Grandmaster Chef's doorstep and I was politely ushered through.

Witty and charming, she requests why I have come and I lay my task before her. I explain that a certain group is hosting an affair and I give her the particulars. In true professional fashion I am presented with examples of past menus. In addition she begins to fire off questions that only one who really cares about their art and customers would ask. I am pleased and I am honored as I can tell she knows what she is doing.

Once we have settled on a complete menu, including but not limited to drinks of blood wine and and dessert of Mock Moonberry Pie, we exchange dates and times to meet up once more and finalize. Itching to see her tools of the trade, she politely allows me into her kitchen. I pepper her with questions consisting of how often she gets supplies to those amounts she keeps most often on hand. And she answers each and every one.

And thus I break from the actual moment of roleplay and attack the essence of portraying a cook in Ultima Online, specifically in an rp settting. A fighter, a mage, and many others use the most recognizable skills and tools to roleplay their character. When you choose cooking it means that you are going to have to adjust your template to make room for this out of the way skill. It makes it harder to fight, harder to PvP and above all brings an additional level of imagination to your story.

Cooking is a skill, that in the real world, not only delivers you straight to a man's heart but will also calm a worried soul. Food is comfort and in a very real way, it is how stories are told. For Magdalena and a select few of other characters in Ultima, across various shards, it is how they define themselves. To portray a cook and portray it well, takes imagination and a willingness to remain in character.

The Portrayl of a chef, aside from the obvious glitch to your template, also means being able to rattle of recipes at a moment's notice. Now, not all of us do this but if you want it to be convincing, it's a must. Also, know what ingredients are available in game and which are not. Take a good look at the farmers list in Skara and Ter Mur. A good example of how well this was put to the test is my dinner on Pacific. I was at a manor house in Shell Point. The person serving the meal was a good friend, Sablestorm. When the meal was presented, it contained onions, cabbage and a variety of other vegetables that I had never seen before used in game. He knew what to put with the main dish and where.

Also take a good look at the monsters and animals that you deal with both for fighting and for recreation. They make good resources, not only when trying to figure out what they temselves eat, but also who and what you can serve them to. Case in point. Orcs, which came up in conversation during my visit with Magdalena, can both be served to and be served. This of course is dependant upon who and what your guests consist of. Ancient Wyrm, All elementals and the occasional Boura make good chops as well. Having a fundamental understanding of what surrounds you allows the roleplay of a chef to be that much more rich.

Brilliant when played properly, cooking is one of those grossly underestimated skills in UO. Stay tuned while I follow up next week with Herding.

[EM Fiction / News] Santa's Dilemma.
By EM Crysania

"Oh dear, oh dear," cried Santa as he put on his suit. "This won't do. It just won't do!"

"What ever is wrong, Santa?" Mrs. Claus asked, looking out from the doorway of the kitchen with the Golden Brew Tavern Special Holiday Cookbook clutched tight in her hand.

"Look at me! My suit just hangs off of me! It's almost Christmas! What am I going to do?" he asked as he tried to stuff a feathered pillow down his suit.

"I told you, dear, you were using that new exercise equipment that Rudolph and the other Reindeer gave you too much over the year. Why, you're skin and bones!" Mrs. Claus said.

"You know they only wanted you skinny so they wouldn't have to pull around all that weight. I was afraid of something like this happening so I contacted Merrious the Elf in charge of the Magic Sets. He made up a potion for you to drink. It will make you nice and fat and able to fit in your suit in no time!" she said with a twinkling smile.

"Here! Have a bottle," he said, passing it to Santa. "Yes, now drink up...yes...all of it...thats right..."

"HO ho HO," chortled Santa a bit later. He was nice and round and fit his suit perfectly.

But little did Santa and Mrs. Claus know, Merrious the Elf had kept some of the potion for himself. He wanted to be the 'Big Elf in Charge,' literally! Not realizing that an Elfs Chemistry and a Humans are different, he chugged down a couple bottles.

Now, that poor Ol' Merrious did look rather strange. He was big and red. Not only that, the potion seemed to have confused him and now he was lost. Santa and the others thought he was taking a few evenings off before the big holiday rush, explaining his absense from the magic factory.

Little did they realize Merrious was wandering the countryside, trying to figure out a way back to the North Pole.

Note.

'A Mutated Elf' will appear in the World over the holiday period on all facets. He will drop hints in General Chat about his location. When you find the Elf, be sure to give him a Cookie to get a gift. But hurry though as he will not stick around for too long. Crowds tend to make him nervous.

P.S. If you have been naughty this past year you might get a very appropriate gift.

Happy Holidays!

Crysania and Seppo.

Tickle me Cyno Celebrates 2 years of service!

Tickle me Cyno Celebrates 2 years of service!
Saturday December 18th, 2010

Tonight we celebrated EM "Tickle me Cyno’s" 2nd year Anniversary as Pacific's EM. As all Pacificans know we torture and torment our EMs quite frequently making many of them quit. I'm amazed any of them EMs made it one year, but TWO is pure amazement. Knowing the sadistic Pacificans as well as he does Cyno had a special event in store for us. Most thought the same thing was going to happen, FREE DEATHROBES! We were told a story about tonight’s event and how we will use Mesanna’s cream pies as our deadly weapons. Cream pies were littered across the floor in hopes everyone would be able to grab one.

Not knowing what to expect we were led to the bag ball arena where "Evil Elder EM Cyno Razik" appeared. Some psychotic Pacificans had their entrails thrown into the stands while the Evil Cyno toyed with us. Every time the pie annihilated the Evil Cyno he was resurrected and the relentless attack continued. After at least 10 deaths our aggression for the passed ten years had settled some......

We continued at the Luna fair grounds with some Trivia Questions:
"Can anybody name the first EM partner I had?"
Answer : Annendora
Winner : Wazzle

"Can you name all of the EMs that have come to Pacific in the passed two years?"
Answer : Annendora, Lillimu, Tazzy, Tailspin, Iphitus, Kaz
Winner : -none-

"Anybody Remember how long I couldn't leave the EM Hall for?"
Answer : EM Cyno was "Hall-bound" for 1 month
Winner : Belle

"Tickle me Cyno" also knows that Pacificans are greedy little creatures, saying gimme gimme gimme, even if they have no idea what they are asking for. A line formed quickly and crookedly for a NOT PINK but Baby blue robes crafted by Cyno Razik Himself. The "Special" part of the robe is that the crafted title reads "Elder EM Cyno Razik (12/18/2010)". After receiving the gifts the crowd quickly turned into a group of maniacal smurfs!

A hailstorm of fireworks appeared, as the smoke cleared Mesanna appeared! Mesanna came to wish "Tickle me Cyno" a warm two year anniversary and everyone a Merry Christmas.

Some odd person, someone that isn't me*, asked Messana to Kill Cyno for us. A rumble in the crowd started and a faint chant of what sounded like "Kill Cyno, Kill Cyno, Kill Cyno" could be heard. Apparently the psycotic Pacificans had not had their fill of torture with Cyno yet. Hearing the crowd Messana had no choice, EM Cyno had to DIE! Pulling the helpless Elder EM "Tickle me Cyno" towards her she smashed him in the noodle quickly dropping our beloved and much tortured EM.

As it was EM "Tickle me Cyno's" special day Mesanna took pitty upon Cyno and resurrected him. There was however a side effect, similar to the incredible hulk, our EM turned into an angry green guy! Again the Pacificans afraid of nothing stood there waiting to be "Cyno Smashed."

Luckily by the time "Tickle me Cyno" made it to the edge of the stage his rage subsided.

Our next adventure was to play "Where's Cyno". Cyno blipped off of the stage and gave simple clues to where he would be. The first clue was "My first home." A group of players found him at the Counselors hall in Britain! The next location had a prize with it, the green bone remains of Elder EM Cyno Razik. The next locations clue was "There is a gate on an island on Ilshenar that leads to a special place."

A rat race ensued, the greedy little Pacificans knew if they found Cyno first they could desecrate on his green bones anywhere in the world whenever they wanted to. Perhaps the bones might act like some type of Voodoo Doll that allows us to control our little EM. Four of us were running toe to toe pushing through the spider cave to get to the island of Reg Volum. Joy, Aradiva, April and I arrived at the island nearly at the same time. Low and behold one had beaten all of us, his name was demon.

Many Pacificans were angry that they could not use the bones to fulfill there deepest evil desires. Luckily demon had discovered how to control "Tickle me Cyno" and managed to get him to place one of Mesanna’s cream pies into his bag. The crowed relentlessly pummeled "Tickle me Cyno" with pies.

Oh and for those that didn't realize it by this point our EMs have new names. "Elder EM Cyno Razik" is now "Tickle me Cyno". And "EM Kaz" is now "Troublemaker Kazspazastic."

* - Clearly as a reporter whatever I say is true, so if I say it isn't me. There is absolutely no way it was me and anyone that wishes to take credit for the killing of Cyno can have it, so long as it is not myself or I asking for said credit. And might I add it was totally proven at this event that psychotic personalities do well on Pacific.

A Stitch In Time

Click the image to open in full size.

From the desk of Joanna Weaver, Administrator, Scribe, and Corporal of The Knights of the Crux Ansata.

Some of you may have heard of The Timelord. His visits to our world are not always recorded. One of these visits was made known in that famous book authored by the mouse, Sherry. “My Story” continues to prove a delightful tale to readers across the facets. Perhaps one of the most interesting bits in the story is when Sherry speaks to us of The Timelord and the mission he set upon Lord British's shoulders. If you have not read it, I highly recommend doing so.

I set to paper now new tales of Timelord activity for you, the public, to be aware of. Let these accountings be forever recorded, that future generations to come know that the one they call The Timelord does, in fact, exist. Let them also know that he does not play favorites. No, often do his actions leave sorrow in their wake.

Click the image to open in full size.

It all began with the task he set before us, The Crux Ansata. I have told you of how he froze our leader, Lady Danica, to balance his act of freezing Bellatrix, who sought the remains of ancient Zog the Mage. He kept her trapped in a timeless stasis, not to be released until we had served his purpose. And serve we did. Those powerful old bones were discovered in the Painted Caves, on the Felucca facet. They'd been hidden there to keep them from being used for evil. Now, the caves open to all, they must be moved to a more secure location. The fate of our world depended on it.

Click the image to open in full size.

The Timelord uttered those words to us often. That ancient custodian, able to travel through space and time across the scattered shards of our shattered world. Tasked to keeping the balance and ensuring the worlds remain, more or less, intact. We soon learned that although he was very powerful, there were some tasks he was not allowed to do. I often wonder who he answers to. Might there be other greater beings in the universe, more powerful than even he? It leaves one much to wonder about.

We of the Crux Ansata were given the tasks he could not himself perform. With our leader trapped in stasis and the bones of Zog needing a new home, we found ourselves kept busy with what seemed menial tasks until they could be moved.

One of these tasks was the matter of handling the time rifts. It seems that every time The Timelord pays our world a visit, rifts were created in the fabric of our world. These rifts allowed creatures from between the planes to slip in and wreak havoc. Many times during his visit were we forced to head out and put these monsters to rest. With so much excellent teamwork, the chore was not too difficult for us.

Click the image to open in full size.

The more heart-wrenching task (at least I felt so, anyway) was the issue of poor little Addie. It seemed that The Timelord had visited our world during that time when the daemons invaded Magincia. While he was here, he had accidentally frozen four year old Addie as he lay sleeping in his home, in the same manner that he had frozen our Lady Danica. Now, recent events had caused the child to be released from this stasis, left to wander alone on the ravaged isle with none to care for him. You can imagine my horrified surprise when we were told to kill this child in order to preserve the balance of our world's space-time continuum. Our Order was conflicted, should we do as The Timelord desired and kill this innocent child? Or should we take his other option, to guide the child to the Vesper Youth Hostel and see to it he was raised well? The answer was simple for me. My conscience would not rest with this child's blood on my hands. I was grateful to learn most of my fellow Crux felt the same way. The Timelord was most furious with our decision, and he sent many of his beasts in waves to try to force his will.

Click the image to open in full size.

In the end, we won out and protected the child. The Timelord, realizing his efforts to be futile, issued us no end of warnings about how the child might, if neglected or raised improperly, grow to be one of our greatest regrets and enemies. These warnings stirred many among us to doubt our decision. But, I ask you readers- can the same not be said for any child? Even as I put these tales to paper, this young boy, spared from a gruesome death, lies slumbering in the Vesper Youth Hostel. I implore all who would show kindness and mercy to pay this poor child a visit. It has not been an easy week for him. He has lost his mother and father and his home, all in the same instant.

Last night, we gathered at the Crux Ansata headquarters in Jhelom to finally handle the task of relocating and securing Zog's remains. After a few minutes of preparation, we traveled to the Painted Caves in Felucca.

Immediately, we were under attack by what appeared to be tainted plants and vines. As we worked hard to forge a safe path through this dangerous vegetation, we were attacked from behind by the murderers whom make Felucca their home. Greatly outnumbering them, we were soon able to fight them off and continue with our mission.

Inside, the caves were littered with corrupted troglodytes that no doubt wanted to maintain their ownership of those ancient remains. We were forced to carve our way through those undeveloped beasts, but once through we were not quite done. It seemed the foul criminals of Felucca were not done adding to our workload, as they returned to further harass our mission. Once disposed, we were free to tackle the newest dark development, an onslaught of Xorinite minions. Finally, having laid the beasts to rest, the bones were collected and we made our way back to Jhelom.

The Timelord surprised us by giving the Crux Ansata a new hall in reward for our efforts. Once he released Danica from her stasis, he vanished with the remains of the ancient mage, intent on securing them in a safe location.

Click the image to open in full size.

Lady Danica was greatly surprised by all that had occurred in her absence. She promoted a few of us, adding us to the ranks of those already promoted. In particular, Lady Faeryl Tyr'athem was promoted from the rank of Corporal to Sergeant for her outstanding dedication to the cause. At last, greatly exhausted, Lady Danica Amandine left us to seek rest.

Click the image to open in full size.

This concludes my recounting of The Timelord's activities, for now. He told us he was leaving our world, but I suspect that he will return one day. I remain concerned for Little Addie's fate, and wonder if that planar traveler will return to correct what he sees as a mistake. I suppose that like everything else, only Time will tell.

... Last MOA Event of 2010 ~ Impy, Red Devil & Santa

Returning from holiday shopping I looked at my computer and saw a pigeon from Pratt himself. Without even time to change into my holiday frock I rushed to MOA for their year end holiday event. The auction house was packed with only two seats left. A kind soul directed me to one of the empty seats. I had arrived just in the nick of time!

I have attended all of the MOA Christmas events and this one seemed to be bigger and better. The Twelve Days of Christmas was amazing this year....new and improved items.

The MOA staff was decked out in white, red and green outfits as were many of the patrons.

Christmas at MOA would not be Christmas without the spirits from Christmas past and both Impy and Red Devil made an appearance.
It seems as though knowone really likes Impy except for Xevei and myself. Poor little dwarf! He cannot help it if he smells, cannot see what 90% of us can see and has those hateful calloused hands.

Not only was Impy getting slack from DJ Scorp so was Red Devil and even poor Lady Lava !
When Red Devil informed the crowd and DJ Scorp to behave because I was in the house and may write about their bad behavior DJ Scorp said,
" Lava is here ? Well, MOA lets the naughty come too I guess."

After the Twelve Days of Christmas, gold give aways and a few high end items auctioned off there were two Mystery Chest hunts. One in Fel conducted by Impy and one in Tram conducted by Santa.

On the subject of Santa I had a few personal quiet moments with him before the crowds arrived at Ice Castle. We both commented on what a great job Melian did on decorating the castle for the holidays and the festive maze she created.

All the good boys and girls ( and even the naughty ones ) received holiday gifts from Santa.

THANK YOU MOA FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE GREAT LAKES COMMUNITY.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Christmas and Winter Deco Ideas

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season so far.
Here's a few deco ideas and screenshots to help those that, like me, have yet to finish their deco.

Click the image to open in full size.
Snow Ideas:

If you can't customize your house because of vendors or you just really don't want to deal with things going into your moving crate just to change the floor tiles..
Here's a few ideas:

Click the image to open in full size.
White Poppies - As seen at Red and Purple Mini Mall on Atlantic.

Click the image to open in full size.
Stygian Abyss Carpets dyed with the new white stains.
It doesn't turn quite as bright as the poppies, white gozas, or even the snow tiles themselves but are the quickest/cheapest alternative.

It only takes one use of stain to dye as many carpet pieces as you can hold in your backpack.

White gozas from the reward cloth are also an option if you happen to have a lot sitting around or are willing to do many, many single bods.
[For those interested the BODs that have a chance for white cloth are:
20 normal barbed - 20 exp spined - 10/15/20 exp horned - 10/15 exp barbed]

Falling Snow

Click the image to open in full size.
Acesh on Great Lakes uses the old holiday gift snow flakes.

If you don't have them or don't want to use them, you can easily use diamonds [not the blue diamonds] or Egg/Smoke bombs as falling snow.

Snow Piles/Snow Drift

Click the image to open in full size.

Two cotton raised against a tree, or raised into a corner make a nice snow drift effect.
Although it definitely looks better when used on the snow tiles as opposed to on the carpets in this screenshot.

Snowmen

Click the image to open in full size.
The christmas gift snowmen from years ago.
The scarf can be dyed using a normal dye tub.

If you don't have one of them you can use Siobhan of Legends snowman idea.
Click the image to open in full size.
You'll need:
One Large Vase
Two Small Vases
A Bandage - Dyed whatever color you'd like your snowmans scarf
A Carrot
A Straw Hat - Can also be dyed whatever color you'd like

You'll need:

A Small Piece Of Blackrock

And finally for those that really love their snowman we have Tiger Lily of Chessies snowman.

[EM] Nightfall
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 6:01 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills)
by Barnaby

Sitting high atop a mountain, a hooded figure sat and gazed out across the harbor. Fishing vessels made their way back to the shore as the sun slowely dipped below the horizon, giving up its hold on the land and allowing Night to stake its claim. On the north side of the mountain the village of Cove there was a burst of frantic activity, as its inhabitants scurried to finish the days work before retiring to their homes – or to the local tavern. To the south, an orc fort sat in the shadows of the mountain. The natural barrier prevented the orcs from easily overtaking the village, but skirmishes still occurred – and with the recent sightings of orc war vessels, it would only be a matter of time before conflict erupted over the harbor. The last vestiges of comforting warmth retreating beyond, the figure upon the mountain took note of a chilling breeze behind him that had announced itself with the type of eerie shriek that only wind can produce. He decided to embrace the cold, and shuddered accordingly.

Lost in his thoughts, the figure did not notice the arrival of similarly garbed individual.

“Good evening, Barnaby,” the new arrival said, “I was hoping to bump into you.”

“Hello, Kasaven,” Barnaby replied, unfazed by the sudden appearance of company. “You were hoping to ‘bump into me’? On top of a mountain?”

“Well, I may have been searching for you,” Kasaven grinned, “But not for too long.”

“Right.” Barnaby replied, following a short chuckle. “Have you learned anything new?”

“About your friend? No. I’ve consulted my usual sources of information, and have come up with nothing,” Kasaven answered. “I’ve heard he has been sighted a few times recently, though, and has apparently taken to harassing fisherman and privateers.”

Underneath his hood, Barnaby’s eyes slowly narrowed. “Has he harmed anyone?”

“None,” Kasaven replied, “He seems to fancy himself, or itself – we don’t know if it is a ‘he’, as some sort of trickster.”

“Content to play his games.” Barnaby nodded.

“For now,” Kasaven added, “Look at it this way – at least he isn’t completely singling you out.”

“Thanks, I think.” Barnaby shook his head. “Doesn’t it bother you? That we couldn’t just…stop him? I mean, I understand how Ix Tab was able to contain me, but I don’t understand how this creature was able to get the better of us. I can appreciate a good joke, but I’m not seeing the punchline for this one.”

“It does bother me,” responded Kasaven, “But at the moment, I’m more worried about the response to Ix Tab.”

“Are you doubting them?” Barnaby asked.

“I’m not doubting their courage, or their ability.” Kasaven continued, “I only hope they give the threat proper attention – Ix Tab is powerful right now. Very powerful. There are other concerns of the land, but none carry the weight of consequence that this one does.”

For some time, neither said anything as both were contemplating the uncertainty of the near future. The sun had now dropped below the horizon completely, and Felucca was visible in the sky. Wordlessly, Kasaven departed, leaving Barnaby alone to ponder what lay before his mind. The wind had picked up again, as cold air buffeted the mountain and the lone being who stood upon it. Again Barnaby shivered as he allowed himself to feel the piercingly cold air. Night had taken control, its cold shadow portending the coming struggle.

The freezing cold month of December was made much warmer last evening. Two people deeply in love joined hands in the bond of marriage. Lady Eclyse Christian and Lord Kaylor McKairin gathered with friends and family in the chapel of the Wisp dungeon in Ilshenar, just north of Honesty moongate. A beautiful arrangement of red and white flowers graced the altar where the pair stood. The bride, in flowing and honest white, her groom in passionate crimson.

Click the image to open in full size.

The ceremony was led by Lord EM Bennu, who opened with a touching speech about the importance of trust in a marriage. He presented a couple lengths of cord, one red and one green. A chalice was presented, over which the two lovers were instructed to join hands. As he spoke the words of binding, he wrapped the twine about their clasped hands. The red cord, he said, represented humility. The green cord represented hope. The wine in the chalice stood for bounty and sacrifice.

It was time now, for their rings to be given.

Lord Bennu began to pat his pocketless robes, frantically, as if searching for something. The crowd, and no doubt the couple, watched with held breath, wondering if the rings had been misplaced or forgotten.

Click the image to open in full size.

Suddenly and with a smile at his jest, he snapped his fingers. Two white gold rings appeared on his pinky. The crowd breathed a sigh of relief, and shared a chuckle, as he gave each of them their ring. We all watched on as the pair exchanged their vows and slipped their rings into place.

After, they were pronounced husband and wife and ordered to that most traditional of kisses, to which Lord McKairin wasted no time in gracing upon his lovely bride's lips. Then, they turned to thank and address their guests, inviting us all to join them in a nearby room for the reception.

After the gifts had been given to the new couple and cake had been handed out to each of the guests, the happy pair was gracious enough to give me a few moments of their time for a brief interview.

“This wedding is the event of the season,” I started with a smile. The bride was so lovely in her gown.

“Your comin' means everythin' to us,” she said, face full of that wedding glow.

“Just in time for Christmas, and your attire is divine!” I made a mental note to find out who their tailors were before the interview was concluded. I looked to them both, and began my questions.

“When and how did you both meet?”

They looked to each other, and I could tell they were very much in love.

“In a dream. The answer to a long forgotten prayer.” Kaylor spoke softly.

“That is very romantic.” I smiled.

“He turned me from a Minocan brat into somethin' worth havin',” Eclyse offered. I found the words most interesting, I could tell there was a longer story here, but one that was best left for another day.

“Who was your tailor for the wedding? This dress is exquisite!” Truth be told, I was interested in paying the tailor a visit, for their outfits were quite gorgeous!

“Thank ye M'Lady....Actually I found a gypsy girl in th' Nujel'm bazaar who made it fer me...” Finding a gypsy tailor in the bazaar might prove to be difficult, a challenge I was well up to!

“What fabric is this?”

“She says 'tis made o' flax an' cotton, double bleached,” and she looked down at it, tilting her head as if in wonder of the garment, herself. “Very natural feelin'.”

“It looks very comfortable,” I agreed, before turning to address Lord McKairin's clothing. “What about milord? Was his attire of the same crafter? It is very dashing.”

“No. These raimants were especially tailored for me this very night by personal request,” he responded. Aha, I thought, perhaps an easier tailor to find.

“Who was your tailor sir?” I queried.

“A most wondrous artisan from Stonegate.” I tried to pry the name from him, but alas he'd not asked the skilled craftswoman. I would have to look into it later. I smiled as I studied them both.

Click the image to open in full size.

“Which of you proposed?”

Kaylor gave a shy grin and looked at Elcyse, allowing her to be the one to answer.

“Oh he did... Caught me by surprise... He proposed th' night of the Knighting....” To which I nodded, remembering that not long ago she had been knighted. “Under th' stars o' Stonegate, on th' roof of the Hall o' Compassion. T'was beautiful.”

“It sounds lovely. How long had you known each other?”

“Several months M'Lady,” Lady McKairin answered.

“One last question before you return to your other guests,” I promised, “and I truly appreciate this.”

“'tis no problem My Lady.”

“You both are human, do you have any words of advice for other human couples seeking to marry?” I looked to each of them. The crowd seemed to stir a bit at my question. Kaylor nodded.

“Indeed, Joanna. The only truth in this world is that which the love of humanity encompasses.”

“Thank you, that is very profound.” I wrote his sagely words down as he gazed into his bride's eyes.

“And you, my lady wife?” he asked of her.

“There is order t' the universe..an' I 'ave learned that this night... Symmetry in sameness.... Complexity in simplicity... I would not have other than this human, not for the wide world.” The couple leaned close to share a kiss, and I was reminded of my manners. Surely they wanted to not be tending guests, but to begin their honeymoon!

“Congratulations on your pure union, and thank you for your time,” I said, as I packed my writing implements up.

“Thank ye for comin' this evening Lady Joanna,” Lady Eclyse smiled, radiant with wedding joy. I nodded and wished them both many blissful years together.

As I took my leave of the place, I couldn't help but think of the positive note that the year was ending on. What a beautiful way to begin the coming new year ahead!

Update on Oceania lag issues

Posted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 3:02 PM EST by AirmidCecht (Oceania)
We wanted to highlight the official replies found on uhall for the Oceania community here.

From Cal, UO Producer:

Last report is we have guys on the ground in Australia checking out the network.

In addition, there should be a post in the near future (in the next couple hours) about the status.

On a personal note, I was in Japan last week and we had some pretty productive discussions about our options for better connectivity for our folks on OZ (shard nomenclature for Oceania).

For right now we are trying to re-route traffic around areas that are causing the lag.

Do your best to hang in there, and we'll do our best to get you an update.

- C

and

I wrote in a separate thread about this.
We have gotten news from Net Engineering that the problems with packet loss should be resolved.

We will continue to monitor the problem, but from our side it looks like the problem is fixed. If the lag continues I'm sure you'll let us know,

- C

We will try to bring over any updated news on this issue for you.
Thanks all!

[EM News] Capture the Fort - PvP Event
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 11:41 PM EST by Brytt (Baja)
This just in from EM Seppo on the Baja EM Website:

Have you ever wanted to be part of a group that controls real and strategic territory in Ultima Online? Are you tired of PvP for the same reasons in the same old places and are looking for a breath of fresh air? Here’s your chance to be part of something truly exciting:

Baja will be holding its very first Capture The Fort event this coming Saturday eve at 4:00 PM PST. The event will be divided in two phases:

1) 4:00 PM PST to 5:30 PM PST – Attack Phase

During this phase, you should aim to gain control over the area. There are several strategies that come to mind, how will you approach it?

2) 5:30 PM PST onwards – Flag phase

Lay claim to the garrison during this phase by being the first team to have your hue on the flag for 10 consecutive minutes (the clock will reset if someone rehues the flag). Remember, the flag is inside a house and normal house rules related to PvP do apply. We might move the flag out for the next event if this becomes a major issue, but for now it will probably stay inside. So strategize accordingly.

Once again, the winners will be given the keys to this rather large garrison in middle of T2A for an entire month. Be the first group of players to ever win such a massive territory within T2A!

The following factions have already signed up for the event:

1) Cartel Faction:
Flag Hue: Red
Passive Leader: Undisclosedd
Active Leader: Twista

2) Spawner’s Inc. Faction:
Flag Hue: Blue
Passive Leader: Cypher(aka: Captain Fuzzy Bottoms)
Active Leader: Tarock (aka: The Flying Goat, Immortal Rage)

3) Britannia Faction:
Passive Leader: Queen Dawn
Active Leader: Undecided
Current members: The Pride of HearthFire Haven, and Handalf the Chicken
Announcement: All interested members of Britannia faction are invited to attend the first meeting in Castle Britannia this coming Friday at 9:30 PM PST

Lady Mai Does Lady Lava's Questionnaire ~

Lady Mai it seems like I have seen you around forever. How long have you been playing UO and when did you first hear of this game ?
Almost eleven years ago. A friend in real life got me into it...and he quit a month later.

What type of character is Lady Mai?
Straight up mage really... wrestle, resist, med, eval, magery and wrestle.

Your tile is " Lady ". Are you a female in real life ?
No I am not. I have male and female characters.

I see you at the Brit Bank often organizing Corgul runs. What do you like most about this boss?
Well, I sorta like the party part the best and keeping everyone alive the best I can. Oh yea....rare drops are nice too.

* Lady Mai healing people on Corgul Island *

What other hunts or things do you like to do in the realm ?
I really like group hunts but mostly I like to sell stuff on my vendors. I have always been a vendor addict. I love my shop.

Is your love of vendors and commerce the reason why I see you at MOA often?
Well.....no. I just go to MOA to see the current prices of things. I almost never bid.

What location or area in the realm do think is most beautiful or most interesting?
I never really thought about it. I enjoy going everywhere.

What one item do you cherish most in the realm?
I guess my rune beetle carapace * laughs *

What one item do you cherish the most in real life?
Nothing at all --- I am not very materialistic.

What is your favorite color?
Black

Plain popcorn yummmmmmmmm

What do you admire most in a friend?
People that value people over things

What was the last movie you saw?
Blackhawk Down.....and that's old now.

The Funeral of Tavalia Zodok 12/8/10

                                                                   Funeral Of Tavalia Zodok
                                                                                  12/8/10
                                                                           Castle Britannia

Mourners gathered at Castle Britannia last Wednesdays eve to pay tribute to fallen Royal Ambassador Tavalia Zodok. Her Majesty herself presided over the nights ceremonies welcoming those in attendance to the Throne room.

The ceremony began will solemn remarks remembering the public service of Zodok. The Queen visibly upset, labored to get her words out at times.....

Those in attendance were all the more sorrowful as the queen wept along the historic walls. Some who blamed the Queen actions for the death of the Ambassador let their voices be heard throughout the evening....

The procession was soon led two by two down the streets of West Britain as the freshly dug grave of Zodok resided int he Cemetery north of the city. Citizens encircled the casket of the fallen as the Queen continued her tribute.

It was not long after the Queen's emotion could bear no more. Her Majesty alas turned to those heckling amongst the crowd to address the coarse accusations being thrown about! She explained the last few months tragedies, struggle from the side of good and defended her actions to steer the realm away from present evils.

Talk soon spoke of what to do to see that those resposible saw justice for this heinous act of murder to a reveared public official. Spectators ponders various methods to attempt to reach the spirit of Zodok. Soon after necromancers amongst the crowd stepped forward to speak to the spririt world en mass. Draining the mediums for all thier worth the spirit was reached although its was weak the tortured psirt of Zodok seemingly spoke from the netherworld to all who bore witness.
The spirits garbled attempts to express it's message were being watched by all as the words artifacts...murder... were mentioned as legible. Soon the spirit seemingly hunted from within looked to be struck and fallen to its knees. Rising from its ashes was something that resembled Zodok but as we would soon find out was far far more than we bargained for tempting the rouse of the undead.......

The area soon swelled with the rithing tide of the undead. Patrons scattered in all directions as the screams of the falling was all that could be heard. Spectral Deamons, Undead Gargoyles and Wyrms Tore through the crowd even as the Queen herself fought alongside the now surrounded group of adventurers.

The group fought valiently as many death robes were issued in defence of the Queen and those in attendance. The beasts eventually thwarted the wounded and fallen became first priority.

The Queen went on to explain the Bane were more than likely repsonsible for the nights attacks as they extend thier evil reach.....All the while still fending off verbal banter from the crowd.

As the action rescinded the Queen led survivors back to the throne room and thanked us for honoring the memory of the Royal Ambassador. May She rest in peice as the realm now focuses on bringing those responsible to justice.

The child Addie was born at the height of the power of Magincia, a short 4 years before the demonic invasion and the destruction of his home. His mother the healers guildmaster Genna, and his father a local politician his birth was one celebrated across the city.

As all celebrations do, his ended and life returned to a normal pace. His life was marked with two parents teaching opposing views but both with a strict mind on education and the developing of his mind. His mother wished to instill into Addie a sense of humility, something she felt was lacking in their city. Addie's father, demanded his stiff upper lip and a strong sense of pride within his only son. So things continued and as parents do, they fought over such things.

The night the walls fell and the population of Magincia was wiped from Britannia, Genna and her husband had quite a row. Addie hid his head under his pillow and cried, he hardly noticed when his hard sandstone walls began to crumble around him; nor did he notice his mother screaming for him.

For Addie, he heard nothing, he simply cried himself to sleep.
For Addie only seconds passed, he dreamed many dreams in a short time, and saw many things he did not understand... but they were only dreams. Surely, they were only dreams..

For Addie's parents their last few seconds were lived in horror. The heavy sandstone walls around them collapsed into the house crushing tables and chairs, the whole structure was coming down. But they must get Addie out, for what parent would choose to live over their own child?

Genna reached Addie's doorway quick enough to see a sight she did not understand, a void, a crack in what others of more learned sciences would call the space time continuum. When it disappeared, Addie too was gone. Tears and rubble hit the floor simultaneously and Addie's parents were crushed by both.

Addie awoke to a strange landscape, a child of only four years old he found himself alone for the first time in his life. The area around him was unrecognizable, long flat grassland and bits of rubble. For hours he wandered, finally he found a small tent and hid inside, for there were scary men about, and dragons...

Some found him later, hungry and tired with worry and doubt. He was taken to the Vesper Youth Hostel, far from his native home. Not knowing the fate of his family, or understanding his own.

The Time Lord has issued a decree of death for the Magincian child Addie saying: "The child Addie is not a part of your time line, he must be purged. The error must be corrected for the preservation of this Britannian time line."

He will summon a Time Vortex to erase the child Addie from our time line at 6pm EST on Tuesday, December 14th 2010.

While doing some banking this evening, I was distracted by a well dressed, loud mouthed, fellow who was aparently "The Royal Herald". As I attempted to cash a few hard earned checks, this gentleman proceeded to noisly nail two posters up right in the middle of the bank.

Abandoning my banking, I approached in order to find out what all the racket was about.

Immagine my surprise when I read these posters. The husband of the Queen is MISSING! and there is FINALLY a royal order to bring Orion the Haunted to justice!

More information will be provided as it becomes available, but it seems we are in for some trying days ahead.

Roleplay of the Cooking Skill

Cooking "is a form of flattery....a mischievous, deceitful, mean and ignoble activity, which cheats us by shapes and colors, by smoothing and draping...."
Plato (427-347 B.C.) Greek philosopher
('Choice Cuts' by Mark Kurlansky, 2002)

Between the grassy knolls of Baja there lies tell of a magnificent artist. She toys not with paintbrush or with quill. Instead, her canvas is the plate and she marks each piece with it's own special blend of color. Her tools are common place. The use, however, is not.

Click the image to open in full size.

Dragons of the Shadow Rising: Dark Father Defiles the Shrines of Cantabrigian.

[News] Dragons of the Shadow Rising: The Dark Father Defiles the Shrines of Cantabrigian British.
By WarderDragon

Tonight Vampires and Revenants, Mercenaries and Adventurers gathered to heed the Sirens Call of Dread Tiamat - the infernal Black Dragon of Prophecy - who in the past fortnight had managed to discover the plot of a mad, monologuing ex-Priest of the Church of White Light.

The Dark Father - once called Priest Murdock - schemed to prevent Tiamat from ascending to Companion of the Virtue Compassion, therefore preventing the erstwhile terror from being released from the Geas laid upon her. The Curse would leave her Weak and Powerless, her Dragons Soul ripe to be harvested from her chromatic form.

His plan? To eliminate the Virtues themselves. How did he plan to do this? Destroy the Shrines.

"That is ridiculous," Lindae snarled, the disembodied Shade rolling a pair of spectral eyes. "You cannot destroy the Virtues by destroying the Shrines. That's like if I tried to assassinate Nicholas by having the dog eat his boots!"

Skats looked at the Ghost and tilted his head.

The gathered - a mismatched band of Britannian Paladins and Old World Rogues, Princesses from the Plains of Latinum and Elven Squires in the Service of Dame Zephenia - would spend the next several minutes debating whether or not destroying the Shrines would have the power to topple a Religion. People suggested everything from the Shrines being a secret conduit of Power, to the simple act of desecration demoralizing the Souls of an already weak and crumbling Kingdom.

All theories but the most obvious; that this was a diversion and that we, the people, were being led into a trap. That Murdock wanted the Dragon to know his scheme, knowing we would rush to the defense of Prophet Cantabrigian's Hallowed Temples.

Portals were opened to the Peninsula of Honor, where to no ones surprise an ambush lay in wait. The Mercenaries fought hard, and while many fell to the skeletal hands and rusted weapons of the Damned, Britannic Healers prevented them from experiencing the True Death, their magics burning the Plague of Undeath from their veins.

The Second Battlefield would be in the southern reaches of the Fernwood - near the Village of Golden - where Bartoz the Ancient Liche of Khaldun would confront the gathered, and in the end fall to their Swords.

The final confrontation came near the Vale of Frost, where adventurers would come upon a small gathering of undead desecrating the Shrine of Honesty with a vile Necromatic Ritual; unclean blood spilt upon the Jade Shrine. The Dead Ones were dispatched but the Corruption remained.

Wearily, the Mercenaries and Britannians would return to New Britain, the Capitol of Queen Dawns Empire, where the Dragon revealed that Murdock had not been amongst the dead. She was uncertain of his plans, but anticipated that in his madness he would soon launch another assault upon the Shrines.

She was escorted to Destard to be amongst her own. The Virtuous Deeds she had done that eve were leaving her feeling ill; and strangely ... human.

Takaro Gives Back To Great Lakes For The Forth Year ~
..
.

For the past three Christmas holiday seasons Takaro has set up a free holiday gift exchange/present for all that want to participate and she is doing it again this year!

Takaro has relocated this year to a new area, 34o 12'N, 32o, 3'W, and she has done a great job decorating for the season as always. I have a rune to her plot locked down on the steps of my Luna home, which inside the city walls, to make it easier to find.

Takaro has a handful of vendors set up with thoughtful Christmas gifts to purchase at great prices but it is not about vendors this holiday season. There are gift boxes scattered about under the Christmas tree and they are open to anyone and everyone to access.
You are welcomed and encouraged to stop by and take a free Christmas gift. It is not required but in the true spirit of Christmas you are also encouraged to leave a gift behind for future visitors.

I stopped by this morning to drop a few items/gifts in the boxes and ran into Takaro re stocking. I thanked her for this generous thoughtful tradition she has started on Great Lakes. If you happen to run into her please thank her also. Tis the season folks!

A Letter From Nathan Hawke

Dear All,

I am currently indisposed due to a very heavy cold - possibly picked up in Yew last week.

Walrus Festival, Friday, Dec. 17th, at 8 p.m. CST
..
.

In its early years, Vesper, a bustling port and mercantile city, had a steady trade in walrus. The walrus gave food, pelts, and ivory to Vesper. Walrus oil kept its lanterns burning through the cold, dark nights of winter. At this, the darkest time of the year, the people of Vesper give thanks for the creature that sustained their ancestors.

This year, Vesper will observe the Walrus Festival on Friday, December 17th. Meet at the Vesper docks at 8 p.m. CST.

P.S. Bring snowballs!

Barish Must Die...

Hushed whispers. Muttered threats. Accusations. Recriminations. Curses. Oaths of blood. Promises. Glances exchanged. Final decisions made.

The word was sent out - Barish must be found and killed.

He represented little danger to the secret service but he and the rest of his miserable cell were an embarrasment and needed to be eliminated.

Carnoc leaned back in his chair and smiled. Assasins would be dispatched to find Barish and kill him.

When one is a lifelong Trammy, one knows how to procure insurance.
One knows red means bad.
One knows that a bola is two weights on a rope.
One knows that heavy Felucca reporting is likely to start flames.
One knows that some things in life can't be helped and are worth pursuing anyway.

One knows.... little else.

That's where I come into Felucca. I want to report there. I also don't know the first thing about the place. So what do you do when you don't know anything?

You ask people.

Following that line of reasoning, it seemed to make sense that one of the first groups to ask about Felucca would be...

...El Cartel.

Love them or hate them, you know who they are. Perhaps you recall the Veral Hunt, as people ran around trying to slay the nefarious man in a dress. Perhaps you attended the Cartel Celebrity Death Auction and witnessed some impressive survival skills (or hacks, some might whisper in dark corners--the flame wars rage on mighty and proud). Or perhaps you've simply seen the blurry streak of Jewey or PugNasty racing after you or fallen victim to Lt. Snuggle's gender-neutral kiss of death. The infamous Baja (among a few other places) mob is... Infamous!

I spent an afternoon with them on Ventrilo a while back. Like, a really long while back. REALLLY LONG. Think, Celebrity Death Auction Long. In fact, I think so long that it's possible they thought I'd forgotten. I could blame other projects or simply a petrifying fear of all things Felucca but here we are and I hope this is the start of many. I hope they forgive me for the delay and for sliiiightly fudging this interview so that it would make sense given that it was conducted mostly before AND partially after their application for township. What follows is ... 95% accurate.

What did I learn from my first dances with wolves? That part of the reason Cartel's been sufficiently effective in rising to reknown: they communicate.

"What happened to the Pac man?"
"He's just running."
"I'm coming with a bola right now."
"Ok. Let me come grab some bars, too."
"Game's running pretty slow."
"Yeah, it's draggin."
"I fear no dragon."
"I had a dragon... once."
"Good dismount, Pug."
"Thanks."

The afternoon starts with some light pursuit but even that is a sophisticated tapestry of PvP coordination and "yo mama" that gives newcomers a little vertigo until you have time to get your bearings. These guys've been playing together for.... well, a while.

Q: How many members of Cartel are there?

A: Hold on. Let me grab a calculator.

A: No, I think he means active players.

Q: Yes, let's say regulars.

A: Regulars? Maybe eight. Though on any given day there are usually at least four of us around. Maybe five or six.

As the afternoon picks up, so does the chase. Today they've ventured over to Pacific, where the meat is still dripping fresh and they're tormenting an old... erm... acquaintence. Ahh, the bonds of friendship.

Q: Do you have a preferred method of taking down an opponent?

A: It depends on the opponent. If they run, it's key to get a quick dismount. If they try to grind or chokepoint, we're more likely to stand and just dump 'em.

A: A lot of the key is to move back and forth listening to each other and coordinating our targets.

A: Yeah, it's important that we all just shut up and listen. If we're all running and someone calls a target, we have to turn and run and grab their bars.

A: You run and grab bars?

A: Yeah.

A: That's how I do it too.

A: Yeah, if I can't grab their bar, I have spacebar set to Next Mobile to grab their bar. If they stop off-screen, I'll use control+shift to grab their bar that way.

A: Oh, I'm the other way. I target first and if I can't target I'll use control+shift or grab bars or whatever as the alternative.

This reporter should mention that all throughout the interview, the slaying continued. Intermingled among my haphazardly dropped questions came dialogue that often overlapped, like this: [victim omitted]'s on foot! [victim omitted]'s on foot! Turn on the other one. He'll smoke bomb... we've got to hit him... fast. They stoppin. They prepping 'em. [victim omitted] is on foot. [victim omitted] should be target. Alright. [victim omitted] is nasty--I'd greatly like to kill him and make fun of him. On him? Yeah. Everyone stay with the group. Screw [victim omitted], stay with the group. Did they drop one of you? Naw, I healed him. He's over... ah... nevermind. Ok, I'm gonna sleep [victim omitted].

Q: Congratulations on being accepted for township. But how would you be affected if Horseshoe--err--Cartel Island is selected, and linked to a community portal? Are you worried that people would camp your end of a portal and jump visitors?

A: Well, we'll see. We're not like other towns in that I don't think we'll get too many visitors, but it only takes a few who visit to have a bad experience to start a negative PR campaign. One of the things suggested was to have a consistent house theme, and I don't see us being the type to have a tavern or a library or whatever. Our houses are pretty crappy looking. But to counter that, we're doing things like the hunts, the public harrower, the Death Auction. We do want to be part of the community and to contribute in our own way. We're committed to the idea and willing to put some effort into it.

Q: I suspect if you were to camp the campers, you'd draw a line and such a situation would end fairly quickly.

[gratuitous, embarrassing innuendo and resulting thats-what-my-mom-told-him-anyway dogpile omitted]

Q: The Cartel docks have captive dolphins. What's the story with that?

A: Inside Joke. :) But one of the dolphins talks. The other may have more to say down the road.

It includes the entire Dawn Royal Library and Palace Library collection but the Gravewater Shores Memorial Shelf and the Gulgeth Orc Clan Memorial Collection.

The Avalon Township Library - Location TBA.

The Avalon Public Library was once regarded as being the most extensive and well known library on Baja. It however was destroyed in an inferno more than five years ago and much of the original knowledge was lost to looters.

The Shrines will be checked for possible dark armies in the area at that time.

Murdock and Tiamat.
By EMCrysania

Father Murdock made his way into the dark dungeon where Tiamat was sleeping. Seeing the Dragon, he was sorely tempted to end its life then and there. Only knowing that the dragon held the soul of the wizard prevented him from doing the deed, knowing that it had to be done a precise way to gain what he seeked.

Walking up to where Tiamat lay, Father Murdock cast a protective spell upon himself. No matter that the dragon had no powers, her strength was still strong and he dared not leave it where he could be crushed by her foot or tail.

"Wake up you filthy beast," he said in a loud booming voice.

Startled, Tiamat rose to her full height. Looking down on him, she narrowed her eyes and stood silent.

"I know what you have beast, and I intend to take it from you. Be it by your death or other means. Preferably your death, but no matter, I shall have it." he bluntly said to her.

Working himself into another rage at the thought of what should have been his, Father Murdock spat out the following in rage to Tiamat.

"I was preparing the wizard, corrupting his soul, for my needs! I cannot take a virtuous soul, one who does good, it has to be for evil. He was bending to my ways, the monks chanting what they thought were spells of righteousness, spells I had evoked to them. Bah! They knew no better! They were spells to hold him in limbo, while his soul was corrupted! How he broke through the spells to attack you is beyond me. Perhaps he was stronger and resisting more than I knew. And upon his last breath, he gave you what I want! His soul! With his soul combined with mine, I will be the most powerful Dark Wizard of the realms! The realm is ready for taking! What havoc I shall reap!" He laughed insanely.

"The three principles corrupted. Then the virtues will no longer be! People will forget them and darkness will take over once more! Mayhem, havoc, chaos, death! I will send my armies out to destroy the shrines, for it is that only which will give me the power to extract the soul from the wizard you carry in you beast! I will have it! Once the shrines are destroyed, the virtues lost, it shall be done!”

Tiamat looked stunned. What Murdock had raged about could not happen!

"I doubt the people of the realm will let the shrines be destroyed evil one. Whether it be to protect the old wizards soul I carry or not. They live by the principles it seems, You will not be able to win!” She replied.

"So it is true, you speak the human language beast. Well, let me warn you, my dark armies are being readied to do just such. It will happen and the soul will be mine.” He said.

"I shall have your head hanging in my castle.”he cackled. Turning, he left Tiamat with a worried look in her eyes.

What now? she thought to herself. Should I go to those I am unsure about, and warn them? Is this one of the ways to regain my soul?

No matter, this deed by the evil one cannot happen, for it was certain death either way.

Tiamat started walking towards the entrance of the Dungeon. She would alert the people of the dangers Murdock had raged on about.

Let it be their choice.

November BSR Results, December Announced

November’s BSR Results, December’s Date Announced

(Recorded by a Wandering Reporter, who wishes to remain anonymous)
*
*
*
*
November’s BSR, the next to the last chance to be one of Baja’s 12 best Archers of 2010 and get the elusive invitation to the season-ending Champion of Champions shoot-off was held on a pleasant but chilly evening.

Toni Fierce, GM of Misfits of Society, and hostess for the event, gathered all the archers at the Skara Brae fairgrounds and the questions started; “WHY are there turkeys there? Are we shooting the turkeys? Where do I aim? Where are the buttes? Is the BSR still being held?”

These questions were expected as from a previous event the buttes were turned into turkeys for a Thanksgiving Turkey shoot and remained as such.
Toni, in a quick discussion with other M!S members decided that one butte was still available, and the BSR would go on in a single file shoot-off. A new standing point was established and after giving the nights instructions and assigning Debi, an emissary in M!S, as butte re-setter, the game was afoot.

In this round robin elimination tournament event free to all Baja Archers, higher scores are required each round for the archer to continue to move toward the nights prizes (one million in gold and a uniquely engraved bow) and a place in the season-ending champions shoot-off reserved for the 12 monthly winners.

The 1st round started and every archer except new shooter Yarah moved to the 2nd round with Cherokee being the nights first Robin hood (RH) shooter with a clean split of her second arrow with her third shot. It might be noted that the scores were low but the wind gusts were to blame as many an archer missed the bulls-eye with the dreaded inner ring shot (a 10 point shot).

The 2nd round, where 100 points is required, found the archers adjusting to the wind gusts and timing their shots. This round saw two archers, Sean Brega and Aveindha, both finding their marks and shooting RHs, while six other archers were merely perfect with three bulls-eyes. It was noticed that despite the chilly weather and gusty winds, Norrit came to the decision that clothes would hinder his accuracy and seemed to disrobe just before shooting each round. He would soon find out in the 3rd round that shooting unclothed wont help.

The 3rd round, and a crucial round where only three perfect bulls-eyes will continue your title quest, saw Calianna, Someone, RudyardSorley, Norrit (previously mentioned), Skadi, RawHeadRex (shooting while ducking a snowball barrage), and Cherokees night ending. Moving to the 4th round were FriginAzin (with a RH), Allie Kolohic (with a RH), Claudia Drusilla (also ducking snowballs), Richard Lionheart, Sean Brega, Debi, Isabella, and Aveindha. Notable shooters so far were Sean, Debi, and Allie who have yet to miss the bulls-eye all eve.

The 4th round, where 200 points usually gives you the nights crown but requires two bulls-eyes and a split arrow RH, saw not one but two shooters accomplish this feat, and a 5th round was in the works with Debi and Allie Koholik still being perfect.

A five shot shoot-off was called for by Toni. These two shooters, whether the pressure was on? The night getting colder? The wind gust picking up? with five shots BOTH scored 170 and they were still tied for the title and a 6th round was called for with another five shots from each.

The 6th round saw Allie Koholik edging Debi for the monthly title with a close 220 to 210 win. Congratulations and many hoots and hollers went out to Allie as Toni presented him with the monthly prizes.

Misfits of Society would like to thank all the archers that came to compete in November’s BSR, and all of their fans that came to root them on.

We invite everyone in the land to the December BSR which will be held on December 18th at 8:30 p.m. pst (10:30 cst, 11:30 est) at the Skara Brae Fairgrounds. December’s BSR will be your last chance of the year to win the monthly title and be included in the end of the year shoot-off, so we hope to see you there!

Score sheet for the November BSR:

(Required 70 100 150 200 Shoot-off)

Two More To Tango - Imperium Style
December 09, 2010
By: Merik

The Ethereal Void Imperium was founded by the townships of Kijustsu Anei Village, Kijustsu Anei Keys and Moria. The leaders of these townships laid the basic foundations which were and still are community involvement, understanding, support and the willingness to include all those wishing to not only be a positive force within its own community, but a positive force within the Chesapeake shard community.

While continuing on this path of inclusion the townships of Merxmere, Zedland and Cimmerians Pass were welcomed with open arms but the major difference was they weren’t welcomed into an existing community. They were welcomed to recreate the Ethereal Void Imperium and make it every townships community involved within it.

The Ethereal Void Imperium is truly an ever evolving entity, adapting to the needs and requests of its community. Never before has such an entity of this size and involvement existed on the Chesapeake shard, however size alone does not matter. It is the quality of its people, interactions and community work it performs. Which is why, we now welcome the townships of Cibola and Citadel of the Fallen. We welcome them to help recreate the Ethereal Void Imperium Community and look forward to everything we as a community will be able to accomplish.

As we move forward one of the Imperium OOC Leaders wishes to share with you, one of his favorite quotes and adapt it to fit here. “You’re only as good as your next vanquish” ~Charmed. “You’re only as good as your next project, storyline, decision and or creation.” Everyone involved in each township shares some very important traits. The willingness to never fold their hand, to give people a chance no matter their past and to help those who are in need, without needing something in return.

I believe I can speak on behalf of the entire Ethereal Void Imperium when I say; we look forward to a new year filled with new interactions, experiences, creations and support.

The Hall is pretty much decorated for the holidays, just waiting on a delivery of a tree so be sure to check it out. On the subject of holiday decor many plots and shops in the realm are decked for the season and below are a few.

This person has a real interesting twist on a holiday mix

If you have a plot decorated for the holidays and you would like me to check it out please drop a rune in my mailbox. My home is in the city of Luna within the city walls. Just check out the house sign if you do not know the location to make sure it is the correct home.

This just in from EM Crysania on the Baja EM Website:

Happy Holidays Baja!

Some of you may have noticed its looking a bit like the holidays around Brit Bank! Some of you may have noticed that we have a snowman, Cyrus, who for some reason likes to move around. Each day Cyrus will be somewhere new visiting in Trammel or Felucca. It may be a city, it may be a dungeon, it may be just out in the forest, near your house, or on a lonely road! Be the first person each day to find Cyrus and post his whereabouts either here or on Baja Forums! At the moment he is residing on the roof of the inn, perhaps getting a better view for his travels! He will be traveling about until December 24th.

The person who reports the most findings on Cyrus will get recognized at the rewards hall.

Happy Snowman hunting!

Livery Quest - 12/7/10

                                                                                     Livery Quest
                                                                                 December 7, 2010
                                                                             Bucking Horse Stables
                                                                                     North Britain

Players gathered last eve for another task dispersed by the realms Livery Guild as player ran communities around the realm work to garner the approval of "stations" in and around thier respective dwellings. Attendance was good as this event could well be the last of the year and the final level to be reached for several cities in order to meet thier goals.

Once inside the stablemaster Helga soon appeared mulling about tending to her duties around the Bucking Horse. It didnt take long before we angered the mistress as one slay horses in thier pens as Helga shouted for them to "Get Out!" After she composed herself a bit we were able to get down to business as Tancred Redstar of Gyldenfeld smoothed things over inquiring about Dodson's requests of those seeking admittance to the Livery Guild.

Helga went on to offer us the task for the evening. A simple essay of sorts. Each city and citizen in attendance were offered a blank book given 45 mins to explain in writing "Why there town or establishment deserved the designation of a station."  Players eagerly set out to thier ink wells and quills to vouch for thier respective communities!

As the hour of ten pm drew near patrons filed to and froe to turn in thier submissions. As the last entry was received Helga let it be know she would require a bit of time to read the fine offerings and would soon let us know her recommendations by no later than Thursdays eve.

Best of luck to all who submitted essays for entry as well as those who've worked hard over the past few months to see this quest through. May we all be blessed with designation soon.........

[EM News] Capture the Fort PvP Event - Team / Regiment Sign Up
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 5:54 PM EST by WarderDragon (Baja)
Capture the Fort
By EMSeppo

All teams interested in competing to gain control of the fortification area in the Lost Lands, Felucca are invited to sign up here. This is a planned monthly event.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the point of the event?

There is a prize to be had and that prize is control of Gideon’s now abandoned encampment in Felucca T2A. The winning team will control the area for 1 month, including access to the large tower and the containers within it.

2. How do I gain control over the encampment?

Every month the area will be “thrown open” for a period of 2 hours. At the end of the 2 hours, the team that manages to dye the “banner flag” flying on top of the small tower within the encampment with the hue of their team color will win control. Note: You will have to defend the banner hue for at least 10 minutes.

3. How do I sign my team up?

Simply pick a team insignia (name) and a team hue. The hue that you pick has to be one that can be dyed with a common dye tub – which you will need to dye the banner during the event. The color should also be sufficiently different than the ones already picked. Finally, a team leader should be selected.

4. What if I don’t have at team?

For individual players and ones that might be interested in it from a Role playing point of view are invited to join the regiment initiated by Captain Jenkins. You will be representing the Britannian crown and all of its declared friends and allies whose interests lie in preventing illegal trade of Blackrocks.

Team: Friends of Britannia

Color: Blue

Passive leadership: Queen Dawn

Active leadership: Members are free to elect

5. Can two or more teams be allied amongst themselves?

Yes, all in-game diplomacy is upto you. However, the leader of the team with the hue on the flag will be given the “keys of the place” – it is upto him or her on how to divide the spoils of the war.

6. Will there be player versus player combat in this event?

Most certainly.

7. When is the first event planned?

Currently, we are hoping to hold the first event on December 5th – this will depend on registrations. So, sign up!

Building Reinforcements
Sonoma EM Website
By: EM Eira

Moira looked at the supplies in the Hall of Commons building. She was proud of Sonoma who had worked hard to gather the resources necessary to help protect their realm. Sand was dug for sand bags, lumber cut for barricades, cloth spun to make bandages. Alchemists set pestle to mortar and ground out potions for healing. Now came the task of building. Everyone hoped the work could be finished before Mary could figure out how to bring forth her evil queen.

(this is an RP only event for any one who wishes to help build a healing station and some reinforcements. Thursday Dec 2 at 6 PST 7 MT 8 CT 9 ET)
