Step one to understanding this site... I
do not work for OSI, I have no affiliation with the Development
Team of Ultima Online (save the fact that I play their game)
and I have no knowledge direct or indirect (except VERY
VERY RARELY) of when any shard-specific, Seer Roleplayed,
or Storyline events will or will not take place.
I would LOVE to be able to answer that last question for
each and everyone who visits this page. However, OSI, in
their quirky reasoning, decided that it was best for each
individual shard that most events are not announced too
far beforehand. The reasoning behind this is, (as it was
explained to me anway) is because when this is done, the
server ends up trying to fit 300-400 people within the same
2 screen area on the server. Well, while most of us might
go, "so what", most of us probably didn't play
UO during those first few weeks when the seers would make
shard-wide announcements about this dragon here, or that
dragon there, and consequently, the entire shard would be
reduced to a crawl... or much worse, a crash and subsequent
1 hour timewarp.
YES! I know, it's a tragic thing, but it had to be done,
or else UO would've become completely unplayable. Now, It's
been announced that many many seers have been appointed.
I know very little about the status of that project, except
that the idea was to have several seers per shard and allow
them to roleplay special characters, creating an almost
uninterrupted stream of individual stories to participate
in, or witness. This hasn't yet occured, but I'm sure everyone
reading this has their mouth drooling at the idea just as
mine does writing it down.
Step Two to understanding this site....
I usually play on the Atlantic Shard. The intention of
this site IS NOT to report or catalogue the individually
roleplayed seer quests. That would be a full-time job. I
dont want another full-time job, I've already got one. The
intention here is to chronicle and analyze the overall plotline
that occurs on every shard. There's a single plotline that
occurs on all shards "simultaneously" this is
what I intend to base this site on.
Please dont ask me about any of those events, I rarely
get to attend any of them, and I know few people who do.
Step Three, the final step for understanding this
site...
Ultima Online is a virtual community, a game, and a many times,
as in life, it's a poke in both eyes with sharp, hot sticks.
Logging in to this world is more often than not an excercise
in patience with about 65-75 percent of the population failing
the test. What I chronicle here on this site is a once-a-week
occurence, which leaves 6 other days for all the rest of us
to do what we like in the game. That presents us with a choice
each day in the game, many choices in fact. Just as in life,
we can choose to annoy everyone we meet on the street, or
we can attempt to work with them to create something interesting,
something fun, something constructive to the world in general.
Try and leave Brittania better than you found it. And,
create some lore for the next person when they stop by.
