Shrinestones

 

My most interesting, well written e-mail so far.

I received this e-mail from a very observant player on Pacific:

Lets see..

I was in the entire liche quest on Pacific last night.. we heard the Crier saying that the liches Lathiari and Kyrnia had an undead fortress on the Southern Coast. So, my friends (Lord TheFather, Lord Lancelot, Lord Korl Wrathamon, Jewels) and I (firehawk) gated to the Shrine of Honor and went east. Within minutes we came upon a HUGE undead army of zombies, ghouls, shades, skeletons, skeletal mages, bone magi, skeletal knights, and in command was the liche Kyrnia, who promptly ripped me to shreds with a few energy bolts. The skeletal army was all different colors, white, red, and blue. Well after a bit of fighting, we made it to the tower. Fought our way into the tower, and eventually to the top level. Once all of the undead were clear, Sage Humboldt showed up and destroyed the "undead spawning machine" (a grey gate) on the top of the tower. He then started the quest for the Corrupted Shrinestones. Here is the text (most of it directly translated)


Listening to the sage:

he is saying the liches have corrupted the very stone that the tower was made from and as long as they have more they can build more undead machines.

[He] Needs us to seek out this Stone.. the cursed black rock.

He is destroying the emitter, it is gone.

Listen closely. Ye shall find the stone in places of the dead and forgotten. In places near the the hearts of all godly folk. And of the forgotten structures reclaimed by time. The Very Gravetards..The very Ruins of the land.. these places ye shall locate.

I must return to mine library in Britain to find a way to destroy these Liche's.

So.. I left immediately for the Vesper Graveyard, and as soon as I got there.. there were hordes of undead. Doing a lot of running I checked all of the buildnigs for the stone except one, that I couldn't get to because there were too many skeletons. Well my friends finally got there and we fought through the skeletons rushed into the building and there was a locked chest. I cast unlock and Lord TheFather got the book and the Corrupted Shrinestone, and we headed for the Library in Britain.

We spoke to the Sage, he examined the stone and said that it had been shattered, and that the heroes of the realm must find the other stones. There was one in britain, one in Yew, and one other I do not know where. Once he had the 4 stones he found the approximate location of the last one and made a portal to the area. We went in and *I believe* it was on the northern tip of Avatar Island (hythloth) and there was a large undead army protecting the chest.

Lord Rand Al'Thor got the stone and returned it to the library. Gave it to the Sage, the Sage gave him a 300gp reward and thanked us all. Then dissapeared to study the stones more. Then the crier was telling us that the quest was over.

Wow, What detail!
I dont remember any of this information being on the Town Cryer. It's certainly interesting to have the nitty gritty on what goes on in these quests. I would ask that if anyone has a screenshot of one of the non-corrupted shrinestones that were recovered, please send it to me, I'd love to throw it up here. I get the impression that the shrinestones are made of the same material that the ankh's at each shrine are made of. Surely this type of stone must contain extremely powerful magic within it. I'm sure we have not seen the last of these two liches, even though they may have lost some of the shrinestones that they fought for.
