“I cannot speak about this matter in much depth with thee at this time, my Lady Bonny, except to say that after a period of great turmoil the City of Spirituality will finally regain its spirit. The traditions which kept us a happy and enlightened people will once again restore us, and I can foresee prosperity in our near future. Have patience, my Lady, for all shall be revealed in due time."
- Something New Coming to Skara Brae,
July 2000.

Almost a decade has passed since Lord Agnacio, a wealthy philanthropist from the Village of Skara Brae, and Lord Bert, a merchant from the tropical isle of Magincia, entered into a pact to bring a sense of Spirit back to the City of Spirituality. And this was the culmination of their tireless effort.

It all began when Ol’ Man Ambrose, the most well-respected farmer of the West Spiritwood, passed away after nearly a decade of illness. Before he passed on, he passed his belongings and his homestead on to his only living relative, a merchant tycoon from the Isle of Magincia. When Bert arrived, many speculated what he would do with the residence, having no experience with farming or ranching.

It was then that a small army of carpenters and woodsmen from the nearby villages began descending on the small farm. Their efforts were kept mostly a secret, but the villagers knew something was astir when the Lord Agnacio began ordering thousands of boards and several pieces of circular stonework.

When the project was complete, Lord Agnacio made the announcement to the Citizens of Britannia.

“Hail Citizens of Britannia,

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Lord Agnacio, a scholarly noble born in the City of Skara Brae. In my time I have read many a book, and pondered over many a tale, but nothing has intrigued me more than that of the history of our land. Countless hours of my life have been poured into reading about great wars, monstrous villains, valiant heroes, and most recently, hallmark festivals that have yet to be equaled - such as the once-proud Skara Brae tradition of the Feast of Spirits.

Long fallen into disuse, on one of the hottest days of the summer, when the sun brings the most light to the soul, all citizens gathered around to hold this Feast of Spirits. Every single year this Feast was held, Skara Brae, the City of Spirituality, would close its shops and begin celebration. This was a time for citizens to sit back, and reflect upon all that made their Spirits soar. They would mingle with other citizens, play games, attend shows, challenge each other at various contests, and most importantly, enjoy themselves and their lives. To conclude, a huge banquet would mark the end of the Feast, with friends confiding in friends their resolutions for the upcoming year.

However, none of this happens anymore. As time went by, year after year, the tradition began to die. Each year as more and more of the townspeople became obsessed with their busy lives, there was no time to attend. Fewer and fewer people continued to attend, until no one showed at all.

Yet the death of this Feast was only the symptom of a much larger problem. Can you not sense the decline of Spirit throughout the land? As I make my strolls through the towns, everywhere I look stand more and more disheartened people going about their daily tasks, for no reason other than they know nothing better. Hard work and toil has chipped away at our Spirit for so very long, that a Virtue, which once served as our guiding beacon, has become muddled and obscured, and as result we have become lost.

It is for that very reason that I sought out my new partner, the merchant Bert, and have invested a great fortune into constructing the massive Faire Grounds upon his land. Mark my word citizens, the Feast of Spirits will be held once again. Let us all rejoice in games and show and good cheer! Let us make plans for our future and renew our Spirit! It shall be not just a time of joy, but also a time of thought, as we reflect upon those qualities that make our Spirits soar." - An Invitation to the Feast of Spirits,
August 2000.

The Festival of Spirits was an astounding success, and when it was completed, Lord Agnacio announced that the establishment would forever remain as a place where the people of Britannia could come together in celebration and merriment: The Skara Brae Faireground.

There are some of the attractions you can find at this historic location.

The Golden Brew Tavern

The Golden Brew Tavern has always been Britannia's most well-known, and most of all well-loved public establishments, edging out even the famous Silversteed and Acropolis Taverns. It was first opened on August 6th, 1998 by Lady Ursula Wyldstorm of the Golden Knights, and over the years has managed to carve its ways into the hearts and memories of Britannian and Olympian alike. While the tavern has moved numerous times since its Grand Opening - to the New World of Trammel in 2000 and to Luna in 2005 - it has never lost its spirit or its place as Baja's premiere alehouse. No establishment, before or since, has had the same impact on our shard or has seen the same number of famous visitors as this one tavern has had in its eleven year history.

It's most recent incarnation is east of the Village of Skara Brae, here at the Skara Brae Fairegrounds in New Britannia (Trammel). You can find many of the delicacies often associated with the Tavern there, such as Trinsic Pale Ale and Lizardman Links & Pineapple Pizza; along with several new additions such as Xel's Sake Shots, Magdalena's Muffins, Arlon's Smoked Salmon, and Oriana's Pie.

See The Golden Brew Tavern.

The Baja Memorial Garden

The Baja Memorial Garden was placed in memory of all those guilds and societies that have long since passed from our realm, namely the Golden Knights, whose guild insignia and name is carved into the trunk of the center tree.

The Memorial Garden was planted by Grand Duchess Wildstar of the Kingdom of Dawn.

The Stage

The Fairegrounds Stage is the center of activity of for the Skara Brae Faireground. To date, it has played host to the Cinderella Story (a play by the Golden Brew Players in September 2000), The Monthly Best Shot in the Realms Tournement, Developer Mesanna’s Birthday Party, The Valentine’s Day 2009 Poetry Contest, The Royal Guard Summit, and numerous weddings.

The Best Shot in the Realms Arena

The Best Shot in the Realms is a monthly archery tournament held on the Baja Shard. It was originally founded by Theoran and the Society of Archers [S|A], but has since been passed down to the Misfits of Society [M!S], who have faithfully kept the event going for the past several years.

The Skara Brae Race Track

The Championship Horse Racing League was an event that was begun after the success of the Festival of Spirits. It was a seven-week tournament where the best horsemen, cavaliers, cowboys, and jockeys would come compete for the title of Champion Horseman.

The Race Track still stands to this day. A no-magic zone has been laid across the field, meaning sorcerers are incapable of using magical enhancements to give their mount the edge.

Picnic Area

The culmination of the creative genius of Grand Duchess Wildstar, Lady Oriana, and Lord Arlon went into this small picnic area for individuals who wished to enjoy a quiet evening amongst the trees near the Faireground. There is also a place for fisherman nearby.
