Origin Honored With KPMG High Technology Awar
AUSTIN -- KPMG LLP, the accounting, tax, and consulting firm, honored Origin Systems with a 1999-2000 KPMG High Tech Award. The award was presented at the Austin Renaissance Hotel, Thursday, October 28 during a sold-out banquet, the fourth annual awards event recognizing innovation in Austin high technology companies.

Origin Systems received the Product of the Year Award for companies with more than 200 employees. The Product of the Year Award is presented annually to a company in the greater Austin area that has successfully organized, developed, or managed a technology concept into a commercial product or service within the last three years. Origin has developed Ultima Online, a breakthrough Internet-only fantasy world. Currently, more than 130,000 active players from all over the world access the game through 17 production servers where people can live and play in the Ultima Online fantasy world. With an 83% market share, revenues of $20 million, Ultima Online is one of the few profitable Internet ventures today.

KPMG’s High Tech Awards recognize the efforts of companies in the Austin high technology community, honoring a start-up company, best products, most outstanding companies, and exemplary community service. The awards are determined by an independent panel of judges made up of leaders in business, technology, education and community service. Awards are also presented in separate categories for companies with fewer than 200 employees and companies with 200 employees or more.
