Tinkering
That fellow, or lass, with pockets overflowing with bits of metal, scraps of ore, and widgets and trinkets of various shapes and sizes may be your local tinker. Tinkers of Britannia may create a wide variety of tools, traps, trinkets and other items to brighten the houses and keeps of Britannia.
The Tools
The primary tools of the tinker trade, aptly titled tinker's tools, are never far from a good tinker's backpack. This toolset can be used to create all manner of jewelry, tools and various other items.

Using Tinkering
To create an item or tool using the Tinkering skill:
  • Place a supply of ingots and/or wood in your inventory.
  • Double-click on your tinker's tools
  • Choose the appropriate category from the left-hand side of the craft menu.
  • Select the item you wish to create from the right-hand side of the menu.
  • If successful, the completed item appears in your backpack. You may create multiple copies of the same item by clicking the box labeled "Make Last" in your tinkering menu.

Additional note: You will not be able to craft any items if your backpack already contains the limit of 125 items.
    Craftable Items
Below is a list of the items a tinker can create, the materials required, and the minimum skill level needed. The Elves of Heartwood have knowledge of other, more potent items, and might be persuaded to give the recipes for them to an adventurer willing to bargain...

(Note: Some items may require the Samurai Empire and/or the Mondain's Legacy expansion packs.)

    Creating Traps
To place a trap on a container:
  • Place a chest or other container, ingots, and a poison or explosive potion (or crossbow bolt) in your inventory.
  • Double-click your tinker's tools.
  • Target the ingots.
  • Choose the type of trap you wish to tinker.
  • Target the container you wish to trap.
  • If successful, the container is then trapped and the trap affects the next person who illegally opens the container. The chest may be safely opened by the owner (the last person to lock the chest), or by using the proper key. The lock on a trapped chest may not be picked until the trap has been disarmed. The strength of your trap is directly related to your Tinkering skill.

    Creating a Golem
Tinkers can also create a special "pet" called a golem that can be transferred to other players. In essence, a golem is an amalgamation of machination and magic. They are created much like any other tinkered object by using various parts and tools; however, they will also follow pet commands.

In order to create a golem, you will need to be at least a Journeyman Tinker (60 tinkering skill), and you will need the following components:
    • A clockwork assembly kit
    • A power crystal
    • 50 iron ingots
    • 50 bronze ingots
    • 5 gears
To create the golem, double-click on the clockwork assembly kit. If you have the required components, a golem will appear beside your character. If you are missing any of the components, you will receive a message that will inform you of which component(s) you need.

A golem's strength is dependent on the skill of its creator. By using the Arms Lore skill on a golem, you can get an idea of the skill level of the Tinker that created it.

    Skill Arms Lore Message
Grandmaster This golem was created by a tinker of extraordinary skill.
Master This golem was created by a tinker of superior skill.
Adept This golem was created by a tinker of great skill.
Expert This golem was created by a tinker of fair skill.
Journeyman This golem was created by a tinker of some skill.

    Healing Golems
Golems can be healed by their owners, but not by the usual methods (bandages or magic). In order to heal a golem, you must be within 2 tiles of the golem, and have tinker tools and ingots in your backpack. Then, to heal, double-click on the tinker tools, choose the "Repair" option from the menu, and then target the golem you wish to heal. As you heal the golem, the ingots in your backpack will be used.

    Golem Decay
A tinkered golem will begin to decay if its owner is hidden, dead, too far away (10 tiles), or is not online for two hours straight. To prevent this from happening, you can stable your golem with an animal trainer like any other pet.
