Animal Taming
Taming Areas, by Elyssar of Baja

Now that I know what to tame, where do I go?!

Britannia can be an overwhelming realm to tame in, and hence many tamers get stuck in a rut of taming in the same old places. This can lead to burnout and general disenfranchisement with taming itself. Taming can be a truly relaxing skill, as well as exciting depending upon where you choose to tame. And that is the beauty of taming…you can choose where you want to tame! A tamer who travels over the realm can feel much more enrichment and less burnout than the tamer who only chased Delucia Bulls the entire time spent training taming.

Like other skills, tamers can choose where to tame. Since so many creatures can yield gains to Grandmaster skill, a tamer can truly tame anywhere! However, some regions are much more unfriendly to tamers than others, so they will have the following difficulty ratings, which should be taken into consideration based on the skill set of your tamer.

Area Danger Ratings
0 No danger
1 Low danger (Mongbat, Headless, Orc, Lizardman)
2 Low to moderate danger (higher spawn of Lizardman, Ettin, Troll, Harpy, etc.)
3 Moderate danger (Elementals, Troll, Dire Wolf, Reaper)
4 High danger (high spawn of monsters with tamables)
5 Extremely high danger (characters with low magery/fighting ability should not venture here, unprepared characters will have a high fatality rate)

1. Windemere Wood/Sacrifice

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat
Suitable for: 0-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2
Comments: This broad taming area has a nice forest and farm animal spawn. It is located close to Vesper and has a moderate monster spawn.

2. North Britain Woods

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat
Suitable for: 0-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2
Comments: This is a very broad taming area, with multiple Bulls, Harts, Grizzlies, and other higher tamables for the advanced tamer. It also has low-level animals for newer tamers. Its proximity to Britain makes it a good place for a character with low magery to tame.

3. Southwest Britain Woods

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat
Suitable for: 0-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2
Comments: Another broad area that overlaps the Crossroads/Hedge Maze taming zone, this is another ideal area for newer tamers, as well as experienced tamers. The nearby mountain pass to Britain is the start of a guard zone in case of danger that young tamers cannot handle. Also, being a populated areas means that there will be more pretames as well as security.

4. Crossroads

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat
Suitable for: 0-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2
Comments: This area ranges from the Crossroads to the Skara Brae farms. This area will be useful for new tamers for its animal spawn as well as the security it provides.

5. Hedge Maze

Tamables: Imp
Suitable for: 83.1-100 skill
Danger Rating: 3
Comments: Due to its newest inhabitants, the Hedge Maze earns a danger Rating of 3. If the center of the maze is devoid of other players, the spawn can overwhelm an unprepared tamer. Two Daemons and several Imps call the center of this maze home.

6. Deep Forest

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Goat, Giant Spider
Suitable for: 10-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2/3
Comments: Similar to the other forest spawns, though more of a hazard for new tamers because it is far from some towns and much of the spawn is off the traveled road. Trolls, Ettins, Giant Spiders, Harpies, Headless, and Mongbats spawn rapidly in some areas.

7. Jhelom Bull Pen

Tamables: Bull, Goat, Cow, Chicken, Alligator, Snake, Goat, Sheep, Mongbat
Suitable for: 20-60, 70-100 skill
Danger Rating: 1
Comments: This is a popular place for tamers as well as young warriors working skills or tailors gathering hides. If there are too many people here it is advisable to move on, especially if you are here solely for the Bulls. Tamers should also be aware of the vicious Giant Serpents and occasional Silver Serpents known to spawn near the pen.

8. Ice Island

Tamables: Walrus, Polar Bear, Snow Leopard, White Wolf
Suitable for: 30-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2
Comments: Frost trolls hit hard. Orcs spawn on some parts of the island as well, though not in the numbers they used to. Making a full circuit and taming everything on the island can take a long time, but yield gains.

9. Covetous Woods

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat, Giant Spider
Suitable for: 10-100 skill
Danger Rating: 2
Comments: Another extremely broad area for taming, a complete circuit of this area can take quite a while. Multiple Bull> spawns and other high level animals make this place good for advanced tamers as well as low skilled tamers. This area is also quite close to Vesper and Minoc, as well as a public moongate for easy travel.

10. Trinsic Moongate

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat, Giant Spider
Suitable for: 10-100 skill
Danger Rating: 3
Comments: One of the most convenient taming areas! Located just south of Trinsic and right by a moongate for quick travel between areas. This area has a large farm animal and forest spawn, ideal for tamers of all levels. Local monsters include Brigand camps, Trolls, Ettins, Headless, Ogres, Giant Serpents, Alligators, and sometimes Silver Serpents that wander in from the jungle.

11. Delucia Area

Tamables: Bull, Great Hart, Cow, Goat, Sheep, Hind, Frenzied Ostard, Forest Ostard.
Suitable for: 10-50, 60-100 skill
Danger Rating: 0/1
Comments: Orc camps can spawn near Delucia, which poses about the only danger to this area. Taming in town is extremely safe, as it is a guard zone. However, be prepared to encounter other tamers, warriors gaining skills, and tailors at the cattle spawns! Traveling further from town, travelers will encounter Ratman and Lizardman camps, Gazers, Reapers, Ettins, and Frenzied Ostards.

12. Hopper's Bog

Tamables: Bullfrog, Giant Toad, Alligator, Snake. Nearby: Rideable Llama, Frenzied Ostard, Horse, Forest Ostard.
Suitable for: 30-60, 70-100 skill
Danger Rating: 4
Comments: This area gets its danger Rating for its deadly inhabitant the Silver Serpent, as well as its fast spawn of other friendly aggressive creatures. It is a good distance overland from Papua and requires following the twisting T2A terrain, so it is not recommended for new tamers to venture here alone.

13. Damwin Thicket

Tamables: Horse, Rideable Llama, Forest Ostard, Frenzied Ostard, Giant Toad, Panther>, Great Hart, Grizzly Bear, Mongbat (Strong).
Suitable for: 20-100 skill
Danger Rating: 3/4
Comments: Safe in some areas, but not so safe in others! Swamp Tentacles, Giant Serpents, the occasional Silver Serpent, and on rare occasion, Ophidians can be found in the swampy area. This region is far from Papua and Delucia and is not recommended for unescorted young tamers to adventure around.

14. Delucia Passage

Tamables: Lava Lizard, Hellcat (Large)
Suitable for: 80-100 skill
Danger Rating: 4/5
Comments: Home of the legendary Phoenix, as well as Fire Elementals, Efreets, and Dread Spiders. The terrain makes many parts of the dungeon difficult to navigate if a monster is chasing you. Large Hellcats move fast and have AI that helps them overcome every barrier between themselves and prospective tamers. Lava Lizards on the other hand are not so smart.

15. Lava Area

Tamables: Hellcat (Large), Hell Hound, Imp, Alligator,/a>, Giant Toad, Snake, Mongbat, Mongbat (Strong), Bullfrog.
Suitable for: 20-50, 70-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: Just a hop, skip, and jump north of Papua, this region is not for the faint of heart. Wyverns, Efreets, Fire Elementals, Lava Serpents, and many more monsters call this area home and will be happy to introduce unsuspecting travelers to the dirt. In many parts of the area with tamable creatures, the spawn is intense and any lag can result in a quick death.

16. Fire Dungeon

Tamables: Hellcat (Small), Hellcat (Large)
Hell Hound, Lava Lizard
Suitable for: 70-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: This dungeon is rugged. Its denizens will happily chew you up and spit you out if given the chance. Many Fire Elementals, Mage Lords, Liches, Efreets, and other varieties of monsters call this dungeon home, and the Hell Hounds are known to travel in large packs.

17. Hythloth Dungeon Levels 1 and 2

Tamables: Imp, Hell Hound, Suitable for: 83-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: Large, fast spawns of Imps and Hell Hounds. Level 1 also has the Burning and Blistering Gargoyles. Level 2 has Daemons, Gazers, and Gargoyles to contend with. Extremely dangerous areas for taming, and no safe areas!

18. Barrier Island

Tamables: Goat, Sheep, Cow, Bull, Great Hart, Hind.
Suitable for: 10-30, 60-100 skill
Danger Rating: 1
Comments: Located right outside Trinsic, the only real danger here are the Brigand camps which spawn. These are easy to guardkill.

19. Minoc Woods

Tamables: Bull, Grizzly Bear, Great Hart, Cougar, Panther,>, Grey Wolf, Snake, Eagle, Hind, Cow, Mountain Goat
Suitable for: 10-30, 60-100 skill

20. Eiffel Island

Tamables: Bull, Cow, Hind, Great Hart, Grizzly Bear, Goat
Suitable for: 10-40, 60-100 skill
Danger Rating: 0*
Comments: While technically a site with no dangerous monster spawn, this island is the home to many treasure map locations, which means guardian monsters may be around! This means a tamer may encounter anything from a Zombie to a Poison Elemental.

21. Northlands

Tamables: Dire Wolf, Great Hart, Hind, Panther,>, Grizzly Bear, Cougar, Gorilla
Suitable for: 0-30, 45-100 skill
Danger Rating: 3
Comments: This area is a nice balance between challenging spawn to tame as well as challenging spawn for many characters to fight. Water and Air Elementals, Gargoyles, Reapers, Trolls, Ettins, and other monsters frequent this region.

22. Spiritwood (Ilshenar)

Tamables: Grizzly Bear, Horse, Unicorn
Suitable for: 30-40, 60-100 skill
Danger Rating: 0**
Comments: Located in Ilshenar near the Spirituality and Sacrifice moongates, the only character sure to encounter trouble here are those with low karma. The positive karma Pixies and Unicorns will actively attack any evil characters or monsters to approach. Characters with virtuous karma will be able to walk in the woods in peace.

23. Ki-Rin Passage (Ilshenar)

Tamables: Ki-Rin, Nightmare, Drake
Suitable for: 95.1-100 skill
Danger Rating: 4
Comments: Located in Ilshenar and with the handicap of no recall or gate travel, it can be quite a wild ride to get in and out to the tamables here. The Ki-Rin spawns in a quiet cave near a Poison Elemental. The Nightmare spawns in a cave with an acid elemental.

24. Terathan Keep

Tamables: Nightmare, Dragon, Drake
Suitable for: 93.9-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: There are a lot of Spiders and a lot of Snakes…and I don't mean the kind that you can kill with an energy bolt or two! Their sheer numbers makes taming in Trammel alone a daunting task.

25. Fire Isle / Daemon Temple

Tamables: Bull, Great Hart, Hind, Cow, Goat, Snake, Giant Spider, Grizzly Bear, Grey Wolf, Panther,>, Cougar.
Dragon, Drake
Suitable for: 10-40, 50-100 skill
93.9-100 skill
Danger Rating: 3/5
Comments: Daemons, Dragons, and Drakes from the temple can wander out to eat unsuspecting tamers.
High spawn of Daemons and Drakes in the temple area. It is recommended to lead any prospective tames away from the temple, so you will not be interrupted.

26. Destard Level 1

Tamables: Dragon, Drake
Suitable for: 93.9-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: Destard has Dragons. And Drakes. And Wyverns. Lots and lots and lots and lots of them. And each and everyone of them, if given the chance, wants to personally introduce you to the dirt. It is advisable to tame in any part of Destard you can find which has no other spawn except for the beast you wish to tame.

27. Covetous Dragon Room

Tamables: Dragon, Drake
Suitable for: 93.9-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: This taming area is very tight, and one wrong step will have hopeful tamers end up as dinner for Dragons below or Liches on the upper level. Recommended for experienced tamers only.

28. Wind

Tamables: Dragon, Drake
Suitable for: 83.1-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: In Wind Park, Imps are plentiful, but Gargoyles, Air Elementals, Krakens and an Acid Elemental are also present and can make taming practice difficult. The Wind Dragon room is tight as well, and infested with Daemons and 2 Drakes. Taming in the narrow hallways of Wind can be difficult, but it can be done.

29. Ice Dungeon

Tamables: Frost Spider, White Wyrm
Suitable for: 77.1-100 skill
Danger Rating: 5
Comments: The Snow and Ice Elementals alone are enough to aggravate most tamers with their special aura attacks. At times the spawn in this dungeon can be maddening, and only seasoned tamers should venture here to tame.

30. Kos Heb Icelands

Tamables: White Wolf, Snow Leopard, Polar Bear, Walrus.
Suitable for: 30-100 skill
Danger Rating: 4
Comments: A rugged, snowcapped region in the Lost Lands without healers and full of Frost Trolls, Snow and Ice Elementals, Ice Snakes, and Giant Ice Serpents. This is a challenging area to tame in, only accessible by boat, the Ice Dungeon exit, or by recall/gate.
