THE CREATURES

Twisted and mysterious creatures have been unleashed upon the land with the unveiling of Mondain�s Legacy. These are but a few of the monsters that will do their best to destroy you as you journey into Heartwood.



Chief Paroxysmus
A gigantic king, ruling from the underworld has returned to the surface bringing the four D's with it - Death, disease, disruption and disillusionment. His breath kills all flora and fauna in his wake. His skin leaks poison, his heart is pure ice. Everything in his path dies.

Dread Horn
A terribly tainted unicorn, Dread Horn is a tremendously dangerous foe. His once beautiful horn is now cracked and misshapen, it drips poison. When used as a weapon, it does hideous damage injecting virulent toxins into the flesh of his enemy.

His previously pristine gleaming coat is now a velvet back covering equine proportions that are askew in disturbing ways to make room for large tumorous growths.

Lady Melisande
Lady Melisande was once a dryad devoted to a powerful tree in Yew. The swamps destroyed her tree and her lands, cursing her in the process. Her touch upon the land now taints and corrupts.

While Lady Melisande may have lost all her beauty, she is nonetheless extremely formidable. Her power, once used for the good of nature, is now entrenched in the evil that causes her immortal pain. Her spindly fingers clutch at the souls of humans and Elves venturing in her path.

Monstrous Interred Grizzle
The unfortunate result of a death ritual gone awry, a Monstrous Interred Grizzle is the remains (and quite literally the remnants) of man, beast or monster partially returned to life after some time has been spent buried beneath the land.

Monstrous Interred Grizzles are a giant melting pot of nasty body bits. Sloughing skin, trailing wet organs and missing (or misshapen) bones are common sights of these creatures. They leave a path of blood and other viscous fluids in their wake. This creature is a walking, oozing sore.

Travesty
This powerful creature has no physical appearance of its own but instead takes the shape of another creature/human within proximity. Some legends suggest that the abilities and skills are mimicked as well, making the Travesty difficult to distinguish from the creature it is copying.

Shimmering Effusion
Large and powerful creature composed of magical essence, extremely beautiful but deadly, Shimmering Effusions appear to be shining prisms of light. They are attracted to strong negative emotions. This creature coalesces into rod-like particulate structures or spokes of light when feeding. The 'body' of this creature is constantly flowing and changing. It does not have a solid form.

This creature is not endemic to any specific region. Rather, it will move into areas infected with greed, evil and corruption and feed. The magnitude of a Shimmering Essence's power is dependant on the malevolence of its surroundings.

Ilshenir the Stained

Twaulo of the Glade
Twaulo of the Glade is a lusty woodland creature. He has dark muscular human male arms, torso and facial features combined with the lower body of a horse. Twaulo's hair and hooves are dark as the night. Like satyrs, he favors musical instruments, unrestrained revelry, fine food, bottles of wine and romance.

Meraktus the Tormented
Meraktus the Tormented is a large, well-muscled humanoid. His body is covered with thick fur, and he has the head of a bull. Meraktus stands around 10 feet tall and weighs several hundred pounds.

Tormented Minotaur
Part woman, part beast. This creature can stand to over 10 feet tall. Normally you'll find this beast lumbering on 2 hoofed feet, grasping its prey in strong -- but often humanoid -- fingers and hands. Its enormous bull-like head is framed by 2 large horns and a strong nose. The female version is only slightly more slender than the male-counterpart.

Minotaur
Minotaurs are large, well-muscled humanoids. Its body is covered with thick fur, and it has the head of a bull. Minotaurs are often found in vast underground labyrinths. A minotaur stands around 10 feet tall and weighs several hundred pounds. Minotaurs are extremely strong and are not known for their intelligence.

Minotaurs can live anywhere, but are especially enamored with mountainous expanses and heavily forested areas. Minotaurs may sometimes build elaborate abodes out of mountain caves.

Changeling
Small, colorful and nearly angelic in appearance from afar, as you move closer the shift becomes more apparent - the clever smile bares sharp teeth awaiting their next fleshy meal, the lithe hands twist into sharp claws, the flowing hair straightens into sharp spikes. The Changeling is a pixie gone mad. Do you dare step into its lair?

Changelings are sometimes thought to be chameleon in nature. They seemingly appear and disappear like smoke. These creatures are incredibly intelligent and equally mischievous. They have been found in quiet and wooded areas close to more modern civilizations.

Hydra
This five headed, dragon-like creature inhabits the swamp and marsh areas of Britannia. It is roughly 20 feet long and weighs about two tons. A hydra's scaled body is dark brown in color; its underbelly is lighter underneath. It has gleaming yellow eyes and dagger-sized teeth. Each head breathes a different damage type at 5 separate targets.

Dryad
Dryads are wild, humanoid female entities of unearthly beauty, found in deep secluded forests. They defend these forests from anything that threatens them. Dryads possess delicate elven features; however, their skin is like bark, and their hair is like leaves. They have been known to charm Britannians into helping them defend their forests.

Troglodyte
Troglodytes are a prehistoric race of humanoids that live in caves, dens, or holes. They are very warlike and when not armed with their spears, they often engage others in battle with their claws and teeth. Troglodytes possess thick heavy brows, a hunched posture, and hairy brute like arms.

Satyr
A satyr is a lusty woodland humanoid creature. They have muscular human male arms, torso and facial features combined with goat legs, horns, and pointed elven ears. A satyr's hair is chestnut brown, and its hooves and horns are dark as the night. They favor musical instruments, unrestrained revelry, fine food, bottles of wine and romance.

Fetid Essence
This undulating noxious ball is formed from the malodor of evil, the smell of death and disease, the aroma of evil. This is a Poison creature.

Mantra Effervescence
The power of invoked rituals coalesced into an almost physical form - a smoking ball of magic. The power of this creature is purely energy.

Corporeal Brume
The wrath of tornadoes and earthquakes. The manifestation of pain and sorrow in ball form. This minion draws on the physical.

Reptalon
A reptalon is about 5 feet tall at the shoulder, nearly twice that in length, and weighs a couple tons. A reptalon possess the body of a lion, dragon-like wings, reptilian scaled neck and tail, and a lion-goat head. Tamers with great skill will find that these make good mounts.

Cu Sidhe
A huge, barrel chested dog with a long graceful snout and intelligent eyes. Their ears are held aloft and alert. They are about the size of a cow in height. Cu Sidhe have slender hindquarters with a long tightly curled tail. Their fur is typically a mix of tan, grey, and black and is very bushy. Those skilled enough in taming animals may be able to persuade the Cu Sidhe to act as a mount.

Squirrel
Squirrels can be grey, reddish brown, or light brown in color. Their underbelly is lighter, usually white or off-white. They have small rounded ears and a long bushy tail.

Ferret
Ferrets are fuzzy with an elongated body and slender tail. They come in a variety of colors including white, grey and black, tan, tan and black and solid black. Many have markings on their feet and faces, particularly around the eyes. They are friendly and make excellent pets.

Bulbous Putrification
This creature's skin is putrid. The flesh is bruised and jaundiced. The body is covered with dirt and ashes from the underworld. The stomach folds over itself, in huge lumps of flesh. They wear minimal clothes that are made from flattened and rotting carcasses. Flies and maggots encircle their legs, nearly covering them completely.

Less intelligent, but just as aggressive as their ruler, they serve to rid the overworld of pesky man and elf alike.
