Resignation

.. UO Stratics - Counselor Blues ..

Today I resigned as a counselor, I decided I would leave a copy of the letter here for all to read. I leave with no hard feelings and with respect for everyone that volunteers their time.

"Damn this rain...", Arcus thought to himself while wandering through Britain. Seemed kind of fitting on a day like today. Pulling his blue hood over his head and cursing his luck, he continued walking slowly. It had been a hard 24 hours for Arcus, he had a decision to make and it hadn't come easy to him. "Counselor Arcus!", a raggedly dressed man yelled, hoping to get attention. "Can I please get your help?" Arcus gladly stopped, as he always did, to help the poor man out. "Arcus, my name is Rhadamanthys, I am poor, could you please spare me some gold?" These were the situations that Arcus cringed at, knowing full well that there was nothing he could do to help. "Well, I have no gold for thee, but if you head to the Counselors' Guild Hall, I am sure you can find some food there, it's not much but at least you can fill your belly.", Arcus replied. The Counselors' Guild Hall was always stocked with food, so the people of Britain would never have to go hungry. Arcus apologized for not being able to do more, and then gave the man directions to the guild hall. The man thanked Arcus and ran off through the rain. Arcus was heading to the guild hall himself, he had been wandering for hours avoiding the place, but knew that he could put it off no longer. Passing over the last bridge that would take him there, Arcus stopped to watch the rain fall into the river. He picked up a rock and tossed it into the water, turned and continued on to the other side of the bridge. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally made it to the guild hall. Just as he was about to walk through the door, it burst open. "Arcus, thank thee so much for the food, I hadn't eaten in days and now I feel good enough to take on an ogre lord with one hand!" Arcus grinned, glad that he was able to help a little, and watched the man walk off down the street. Upon entering the guild hall, Arcus shook off the rain and took a good look around. The place was completely empty, not a soul to be found. The guild hall was as familiar to Arcus as any home he had ever known, but today it seemed different. As though he was walking into a strange building in a strange land. He pulled his hood back off his head and walked to his favorite place in the building. "I was always proud to see that.", Arcus thought to himself, as he looked at the plaque on the wall that bore his name. And proud he was, for Arcus had always loved being a counselor, he loved helping those that needed help. But lately sentiments had been changing, oh, he still liked to help people, but he wanted more out of his life. Taking a dagger out of his pocket, he reached up and scratched his name off the plaque. Then he did something that no one had ever seen a counselor do. He slowly pulled his blue robe over his head and folded it neatly and set it on the table. There he stood, in a simple outfit. Shoes, a pair of brown pants and a blue shirt. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a sheet of parchment, and set it on top of the robes. He walked for the door, turned around and sighed. This would be the last time he would see this place he thought to himself. Opening the door, he wandered into the rain...

An hour or so later Counselor Tigger entered the guildhall. She saw the robe and the parchment and was somewhat stunned. Afterall, it isn't everyday that you see a blue robe just laying around. She looked at the parchment and read it to herself:

To everyone,

I have enjoyed my time as a counselor very much. But I am not going to have time to continue to do it. Circumstances dictate that I move on to other things. I am fortunate to have met you all, for you are as fine a group of people as I have met. You have to admire people that give up their free time to help out others. Drax and Teserax, thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this. I hope I lived up to any expectations you set for your counselors.

The message after that had been effected by the rain, the ink had run and the remainder of it was mostly unreadable. There was one part about seeing the Tigers and the Diamondbacks in the World Series that Tigger seemed confused about. She figured she would just pass the note on to Teserax and maybe he could make something of it....
