Contact Info for Origin's EM Faine Morgan and EM Laurana | ||
Posted on Saturday, February 28, 2009, 7:27 PM EST by Ghost Writer (Origin) | ||
EM Faine Morgan has asked me to remind everyone that she and EM Laurana cannot post on Stratics although they do read the Origin forums as much as possible to keep up on the goings on. If you wish to contact them directly however there are several options and even ways they can respond to us. First of all you can find their Web Site Here. That is where you will find information and schedules of what they have planned, and can post event requests such as weddings, funerals, competitions, celebrations, executions, what ever type shard wide events you would like their participation in or attendance at. Secondly, you can communicate in game. If you go to the North East corner of West Brit, Sextant Coordinates 8o 43'N, 12o1'E you will be standing between the Counselor's Guild and the Wedding and Wildlife services of Origin. These are the EM's buildings and excellent points of communication.
In the Counselor's Guild you'll find a Guest Book which you can enter questions or requests which they will answer as possible.
In the Wedding and Wildlife services of Origin you'll find a book for events requests, wedding etc.. On the front steps is where you will find the rune to the Newly Redecorated Brit Bank Roof, and on the front wall you'll find the Bulletin Board for submitting your entries for the Silver Steed Naming Contest.
Stop by and have a look around. Ghosts sure are tough to put to rest, we'll have to see what can be done about that, Ghost Writer | ||

Orienteering Operatives | ||
Posted on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 6:29 PM EST by Martyna Zmuir (GreatLakes) | ||
Tuesday evening, Royal Spymaster Magnus Grey conducted the second training for his nascent group of secret agents. Once again, the group gathered at the Counselor's Hall in Northern Britain and waited for his arrival. He appeared as if from thin air on a stool, greeted the crown, then strode to the back of the Hall where he climbed up onto a table and proceeded to quiet the crowd so he could speak. He posed the scenario of being lost at sea amongst the isles of Tokuno, unable to see neither land nor beast, without a map or the navigational expertise of the average tillerman. How would one find their way back to land? The first to shout out the correct answer of 'sextant' was Dragons are Cute of -Y-. The simple sextant would be the basis of the lesson that night, a tool that few outside of the Mariner's Guild use - let alone fully understand. The Spymaster wished his pupils to learn to correctly interpret the coordinates obtained from the device and use them to navigate across the facets. To that end, he asked everyone to pair up to receive a satchel from him containing an instruction manual on sextants, and a book for recording information. Thirty checkpoints had been scattered across Trammel, Malas, and Ilshenar - each team needed to travel from point to point in sequential order and write down an item contained in a small box. A lantern at each point would give the coordinates and facet for the next location. A form of this exercise is considered a sport called orienteering on the world of Earth. Starting in Trammel, the agents in training were led from Britain into the wilderness of the main continent. The safe sights of Malas were next, with the more dangerous locales of Ilshenar to come after... There the trainees faced brigands, balrons, and ancient wyrms just to open the box and obtain the next set of coordinates. Wrapping up on Trammel, the last location was the cauldron in the sleepy hamlet of Paws south of Britain. There, Lord Grey waited to congratulate the trainees who successfully completed the course. As before, there were several people declared the 'winners' of the session and they received promotions. In the interests of national and operative security, I have been asked to withhold their names. If you wish to have an adventure, the course starts at the Counselor's Hall in northern Britain. There is a sepia-hued lantern atop the display case along the eastern wall that will start you on your way. Don't forget a sextant! Keep an eye open for the sepia-hued lanterns, or speak to Tybalt the ghostly Town Crier in front of the Counselor's Hall for upcoming events and announcements! Martyna Z'muir, Library of Sosaria | ||

The league, hosted by the player run cities of Port Baldmor, Gyldenfeld, Silvervale, and Guardians Gate visited a different dungeon each Mondays eve dropping unsuspecting players deep into the depths of each dungeon with only one goal, to be the first to reach the entrance alive! Chesapeakes Winning Bank Design! | ||
Posted on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 6:13 PM EST by Morpheus Mardox (Chesapeake) | ||
A bit tardy with recent log in issues, I'm honored to officially present the Chesapeake shards winning bank design by Lord Gareth of PaxOku. The design built to offer a bit of use for any type of char, will soon offer a new face to the once heavily used Bank of West Britain. Chosen among what surely was a bountiful que of great entries, the design is said to placed within the next few weeks. __________________ Gareth well know amongst his peers as one of the shards best home designers, has had a long history of unique establishments. Many of those, which still stand have changed often over the years as his self diagnosed obsessiveness has always won, guiding him to bigger, bolder heights in the realm of in game architecture. To see some other fine examples of Gareths design work visit the player run city of PaxOku located along the road east, northeast of the Homare-Jima moongate in Tokuno. There one may find several stunning establishments such as the Blue Light Tavern, and the PaxOku Auction House all brought to us by the same diabolical designer Lord Gareth! Congratulations on the winning design as we all look forward to it's implementation and the new life to West Britain it surely will bring. | ||

The Royal Spymaster Revealed | ||
Posted on Monday, February 23, 2009, 6:07 PM EST by Martyna Zmuir (GreatLakes) | ||
Rumors that the Minister of Agriculture, Lord Magnus Grey, wished to gather citizens at the Northern Britain Counselor's Hall this past Thurday evening had been circulating all week. A large assemblage of adventurer's had congregated at the Hall by 8 o'clock eagerly awaiting the Minister. Upon his arrival, Lord Grey said that he wished us to get to know Britain better, and thus set us on an errand to find a specific location within the city. He said the first clue would be in front of the Sorcerer's Delight to the south. There we found a sepia hued lantern with the engraving 'Southeast of me'. The lanterns eventually led us to the guard barracks just north of the Unicorn's Horn tavern. Minister Grey was waiting on the roof. Once everyone had arrived, Lord Grey announced that he was not the new Minister of Agriculture at all, but was, in fact, the Royal Spymaster. He had led us to this rooftop because he wished to recruit a new generation of operatives...and we were to be his trainees. He said that Britannia needed protecting and that this was a way for us to contribute. I was not alone in my skepticism as to why a 'spymaster' would reveal himself so publicly, and several wondered for who he was spying. Without answering any overtly personal questions, Spymaster Grey informed us that he wished to test our creativity, deduction, and problem solving skills. He handed each of us a book with a brief description of a fictional event and a list of evidence that we needed to gather and separate into bags for motive, weapon, tools of escape, and location the criminal escaped to. We were then to present the bags to him at a location that would be deduced from the items. (A copy of this book may be found in the Luna white box in the Library of Sosaria.) The criminal had escaped to the Ye Olde Winery in Yew, and there Lord Grey awaited us. The first three to present him their bags were Striker of the Dragons of Honor, Loki Bhey of the Yew Archers, and Madman. They were promoted in 'rank' and given access to a secret lair where they had their names engraved on a commemorative kryss. Spymaster Grey will hold another training session this Tuesday, February the 24th, at 8pm CST starting at the Northern Britain Counselor's Hall. Some say that a spy is a patriot who sacrifices a normal life to do what it takes to ensure the safety of his kingdom... Others, however, believe that a spy is a criminal who has been sanctioned by a dishonorable government. On whom will these new spies inform...and to whom? Martyna Z'muir, Library of Sosaria | ||

What Would You Want to see in a Catskills Faire Grounds? | ||
Posted on Monday, February 23, 2009, 9:52 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Dalthass the master engineer rolled out a map of Britannia setting candle holders in each corner. He then laid down a stack of blank rolled up parchments beside it, and looked up at the other master craftsmen gathered with him around the table. “Gentleman we have been given the task of figuring out the feasibility of constructing a faire grounds for the people to use. No location has been chosen yet or what may be included in these grounds. I have gathered you the best lumberjacks, carpenters, tailors, tinkers, miners, blacksmiths and architects in the land to figure out just what we may need. What I need now from each of you is your ideas. If you want to sketch something I have parchments for you to draw your visions on. If you want to just tell me I am listening too. All I want is what you think a great Faire grounds for the people will have on it.” Dalthass then looked into each of the craftsmens eyes one at a time and awaited their answers… As of right now there is a strong possibility that Catskills may be getting its own Faire Grounds for EM ran and public events. What I need from all of you is some feedback on it. Unfortunately Felucca is not a option at this time so it will not be placed there. So we need a large open area with space for many things. The question is what kind of things do you the players of Catskills want? What type of theme would you like too? Here are a few examples. 1. Archery Range with different ranges marked on the ground 2. A small arena with seating around it to hold melee and pet fights. 3. A public picnic area 4. A public bartender or food vendors 5. A fishing pond 6. Public stoves for cooking 7. A forge and anvil 8. A public stables area 9. A jousting field 10. Public dartboards 11. A stage for shows and rewards ceremonies 12. A horse racing track 13. Tents with things like fortune tellers inside or decorative with Knights armor and lances inside 14. A farmers market 15. A moongate that connects to either Trammel Britain or New Haven 16. Statues around the area 17. Flowers and shrubbery 18. A banker 19. A table that sells pies and cakes, or one that sells cooked meats 20. A healer or an Ankh to resurrect people Now what do you think we need from this list or off the top of your head? Do you want to design a faire grounds then post pictures of it here, then do that. What we need is ideas to make this come true. Please post it here:[NEWS:] What Would You Want to see in a Catskills Faire Grounds? | ||

Catskills Militias First Skirmish | ||
Posted on Monday, February 23, 2009, 7:41 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Yesterday the first meeting of the Catskills Militia took place in Trammels Serpent’s Hold city. The purpose of the militia is simply to give players a chance to learn and engage in PvP in a safe and fun environment. Each week this group will meet and divide into two different colored teams and then each team will be given an objective to try and achieve. I witnesses the first skirmish on Sunday and I can tell you it looked like a lot of fun to be part of. The group got off to a slow start due to Getting everyone set up properly with only GM weapons, armor and no talismans or Jewelry. Then making sure everyone had a proper colored robe for the team that they were part of. Once they were ready the green team was sent out to find a building to defend. After 3 minutes the blue team was released to find them and take the building from them. They quickly spotted a single green robed player standing in a room and came up with a plan of action. Throwing open to doors some rushed in to engage him while others stood outside and fired arrows at him. That’s when other members of the green team revealed themselves by either running out the doorway or attacking those who had dared to rush in. The fighting was fast and very fierce but was quickly over with the blue team winning the first skirmish. Unfortunately I had to leave then so I missed the other skirmishes of the day, but from what I witnessed this could grow into a very exciting weekly event for many to enjoy. | ||

Traveling Bard's Night at the Que's Tavern Results | ||
Posted on Sunday, February 22, 2009, 5:39 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
A full house of people gathered Saturday night in Que’s Tavern to listen to aspiring bards, poets, and storytellers work at their arts entertaining those gathered and maybe if they were good enough, to leave with a bit more gold in their pouches. In total eight people stepped up and shared stories and poems about the subject of the evening, Tales of Feathers, Fur and Scales. The three individuals chosen to judge the nights contestants were Alyssia Kanath(RoH), Izznet Hunar(V^B) and special guest EM Kasaven, and they had a very difficult choice to make with all the fine tales that they had to hear. Dedigan(UP): Told a poem about Flotsam and Jetsam a pair of Bake Kitsunes. Akuma(MgKA): Told the tale of herself, two pirates and a talking sea serpent. Sarda(UP): Told the tale of a friend named Blade and the summoned creature he battled. Va’lis Razele(H-D): Did a tribute to the mysteries of dragons. Anna The Pirate: Told a tale of a chick that was possessed by an Poultrygeist. Chryssie Solic: Told the tale of an Coyote and a Snail. Faris(RoH): Told the tale of the Boy Who Drew Cats. Maceo(TAFC): Told the short tale of Beasts, Birds and Bats. After a very long period of deliberation the judges returned and the winners were announced. 3rd place and 175,000 gold crowns went to Va’lis Razele(H-D) 2nd place and 325,000 gold crowns went to Faris(RoH) 1st place and 500,000 gold crowns went to Anna The Pirate who mesmerized the crowd with her tale of that possessed Chick and its surprise ending. Thom Emperor of the Purple Guardians of HONOR(PGoH) announced that the next Traveling Bards Night will be at the “Knight's Rest Tavern” on next Saturday, time and topic will be announced soon, and anyone that won in last night’s event or last weeks event will be allowed entry in the champions tournament when bard's night returns to Galehaven. A special thanks goes out to Que’s Tavern for letting all of us visit you for an evening. | ||

All are invited: The Catskills Militia - Skirmish Warfare. Sun 2pm EST | ||
Posted on Saturday, February 21, 2009, 7:18 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Hawkeye Pike of The United Pirates(UP) requested that we share the following invitation with all of you: Catskills Militia - Skirmish Warfare (Feb 22nd, 2pm EST) Every Sunday at 2pm EST, we will organize a battle event for all players. This Sunday, the event will take place on Northern Serpent's Hold Island. The role playing community invites every citizen of Catskills to participate in our weekly recurring Skirmish Warfare event. The recruits will be separated into two groups which will fight one another at a pre-determined location. The goal of the battle will be annouced short before the event (for example, capture the flag or conquer a territory). A special Catskills Militia guild will allow any player to participate, by temporarily recruiting those who are not member of the role playing community. The rules are simple: * Our main rule: Wear only items crafted with simple tools. No Artifacts, no runic-crafted items, no jewelry, no talismans. Only use gm-made armor, weapons and shields with no magic mods. * As these items can easily be replaced, you don't even need to insure them. * Due to fairness and balancing, powerful pets are not allowed (for example, no Greater Dragons, no Rune Beetles, or 5 animals with pack instinct). If you want to bring pets, please get a permit from the event organizers first. * As your alignment will be determined by color, your armor has to be dyed in a certain color, or you have to wear a robe of that color. * Looting is not allowed. * Prior to each battle, a random member of each side will be made General. He has to prepare a strategy and command his troops. * It will be determined before each battle, whether or not mounts are allowed. | ||

Bits and Pieces of News 2/20/09 | ||
Posted on Friday, February 20, 2009, 10:04 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
In the last week both Vespers and Skara Brae were hit by the invading forces. Citizens joined together to clear the streets of this menace, but the lingering question is where have the city guards been? While innocent civilians have paid the price with their lives what has Casca been doing to stop these invasions? This week the “Catskills Weekly Zoo Spawn” group headed to Bedlam to face the horrors that can be found there. It turned out to be the hardest spawn most of them had ever faced. With many grey robes given out while down there. Though most enjoyed the challenge, and doing something most had never done before, the general consensus was let us not do this spawn again for a while. The supporters of the Zoo do want to thank everyone who came out for the spawn and hope to see you at more events like this. Some people have been wondering where the controversial monk named Solomon Wright has been. (The opinion on him has been split. Some claiming his meeting in the chamber of Virtues was staged to help kidnap Kasaven, and he had been helping Casca all along. Others see him as a man who cares for the land and only wanted to help with his visions for a new future.) It is the reporters sad duty to share this letter to the people he left recently. Citizens of Catskills, I would like to thank all of you for welcoming me into your community for the short time I have visited. Your shard is vibrant, with a strong sense of community and a rich history. Any fears I had of dissolution have been dispelled; the people I have met in my wanderings have shown me that Britannia still has a long life to live. The team at Stratics is doing an exemplary job keeping the news current, and the alliances long established are keeping information flowing to the population. I have nothing but positive things to say, and I regret my departure comes so soon. A moongate awaits me, and it is one I cannot deny. Best wishes to you all... -Solomon Wright, Sosarian Monk Has anyone seen Hagrid the well known outspoken supporter of the Zoo lately? It appears he has gone missing and if you so desire to help find him check here. Hagrid missing? | ||

Nuptials of Habu and Urgz'Gurg | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 8:46 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Last evening I had the distinct pleasure of attending the most unusual and entertaining wedding I have been to in a long time. That was the nuptials of Habu and Urgz'Gurg at the Orc Fort south of Yew on Trammel done by EM Kasaven. The orc residents of the fort were rounded up and kept in a enclosure to help ensure the safety of those guests who declined to wear a “Mask of Orcish Kin”, or mistakenly wore a plain Orc mask. Unfortunately there was a orc mage in the group and some of the guests felt his displeasure at being locked up. The ceremony itself was a traditional orc wedding meaning short and to the point and was something that should not of been missed. Both the umm.. blushing.. bride and the groom carried axes with them as apparently they are an important part of the wedding ceremony. (Some of the guests were overheard mumbling that they hoped they did not get chopped up after the wedding and made into soup. ) I am not up on Orc wedding traditions but the groom appeared to be inebriated throughout the entire ceremony and I was not sure if that was a tradition or not. For those of you who were unlucky enough to miss it the following transcript is provided.. EM Kasaven: Welcome, everyone! *nods to Habu and Urgz'Gurg* Urgz'Gurg: *growls happily to herself* EM Kasaven: Before we begin, I have some advice for you both, or more so Habu! Long ago I married a couple similar to you two. Habu: *scratches* EM Kasaven: Not quite Orcish, but rather two Ettin. A lovely couple, both towered over me by at least four feet, and wore quite exotics raiment’s. The ceremony was lovely, the feast was wonderful, the ale hearty! Habu: har! EM Kasaven: Yet, a few days later, I visited the couple, as I do every couple I wed, to check up on them. On the third day I came to the bride and found her alone. I inquired to her husband's whereabouts, whereas she informed me that she had eaten him after the wedding! Habu: skah! Urgz'Gurg: hohohoho EM Kasaven: I do not know if this is Orc custom as well, but my best advice for you, Habu, is to stay awake your entire honeymoon! Or cover yourself in Tabasco sauce, if that is your preference. *Grins* Habu: yub! har! Urgz'Gurg: *gurgles to herself* Habu: nub git ideez breedur! EM Kasaven: *opens his book* Urgz'Gurg: *sideways glance* EM Kasaven: Since the first rays of the sun shone on Britannia, the mighty orcs ruled the lands. Humans and elves tremble at the mere mention of the orcs! Hoorah! Habu: hoowah! Urgz'Gurg: yeb! EM Kasaven: The only thing mightier than an orc, is two orcs! Hoorah! Habu: hoowah! Urgz'Gurg: hoowah! EM Kasaven: Two axes: one purpose, one strength, one vision. Do you Habu, take Urgz'gurg to be one of your mates? Habu: hrm Habu: yub! EM Kasaven: Do you Urgz'gurg, take Habu as your chief provider and mate? Urgz'Gurg: yub yub! Habu: *nods* EM Kasaven: Habu, do you wish to speak any vows to your Bride? Habu: yub EM Kasaven: *nods* Urgz'Gurg: yub? Habu: latz meebz bestust breedur Urgz'Gurg: oooaww.... Habu: agh meebz alwayz happi when latz arownd togethur Urgz'Gurg: *grins* EM Kasaven: *smiles* Habu: we klomp dem ull! Urgz'Gurg: klomp klomp klomp! Habu: *takes a drink* EM Kasaven: Urgz`gurg, do you wish to speak any vows to your Groom? Urgz'Gurg: yub. EM Kasaven: *nods* Urgz'Gurg: dun do aniting stoopyd. Habu: har! Habu: *pokes* EM Kasaven: *grins* Let the world tremble for the two orcs have joined as one! You may kiss the bride! Urgz'Gurg: *bares teeth* Habu: *grabs* Urgz'Gurg: ughh! Habu: har! *smooooch* Urgz'Gurg: *smooch* Habu: har! EM Kasaven: *grins* Urgz'Gurg: *grabs* EM Kasaven: Congratulations! Urgz'Gurg: *SMOOCH* EM Kasaven: I Now pronounce you Man, and Breeder! or..Orc *laughs* Habu: hoowah! Urgz'Gurg: Hoowahhh! (Left picture)The last of the guests after the bride and groom had left to breed. (Right picture)Some of the wedding guests just could not handle their drink. If you have never seen two orcs kiss count your blessings because it is not a pretty sight. The wedding was followed by massive amounts of drinking and eating of various types of meat. (I’m still not sure what I consumed, but it would have been rude not to eat. Plus insulting a orc by turning down an offer of food, you might end up as their next meal. So I ate some and acted like I enjoyed undercooked meat of .. ummm.. some sort.) When asked where the couple planned to spend their honeymoon I cannot post here what they said. Let us just say they plan on starting to a very large family and soon. So readers keep your eyes open I get the feeling that orc race will start appearing all over the place again. So keep some extra gold on yourself because the orcs may start demanding tribute once again. | ||

New EM Event Reward Distribution Procedure | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 6:29 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
After the heated discussion in Uhall over how EM event rewards were distributed Mesanna UO Associate Development Manager announced the following new policy: Greetings Everyone, We have been keeping a close eye on EM events and player feedback regarding rewards. After careful consideration we have decided that everyone that does the event should receive a reward. This reward will be the same reward across all the shards, with small differences in text on the item or the hue of the item. We will, of course, take precautions to ensure that only people who take part in a specific event receive the reward. The 1st and 2nd place winners will have their names on the item along with the event name and a year added to the item. When rewards are given out by the Event Moderators it will be announced with the post of shard times that the EM will be giving the applicable reward. For future events, all locations will be announced with the times to stop any confusion for future events. Mesanna | ||

Love and Misconception: Long Lost Love | ||
Posted on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 7:18 PM EST by Stupid Miner (Sonoma) | ||
Love and Misconception - Sonoma Long Lost Love On February 14, 2009 the people of Sonoma were gathered together by Lubku Gotugwak who was looking for assistance. Gabriella Woodsworth had been separated from her betrothed, Evan Smith, after the Trammel/Felucca split. Those unwilling or unable to fight were forced to Trammel where she stayed. Lubku had been asked to help her find Evan, and Lubku, in turn, asked us for our help. We traveled to the Lycaeum in Moonglow and she directed us to her uncle who works in the Felucca Bath House. Upon questioning him he told us we should find the blacksmith working in Ver Lor Reg. Frederick Smith was working in Ver Lor Reg when we found him. He told us Evan had gone searching for Gabriella and had apparently gotten lost on the way, and now Frederick was searching for his lost son. He told us of a stranger in Tokuno who had told him he had seen Evan. We found the stranger in Tokuno and he told us Evan was in the Lycaeum basement. Further questioning yielded only snide comments. Back to Moonglow we went. After informing Gabriella she sent us back to find Lubku so that we might get our rewards for finding Evan. The first ten people to return their books recording what happened, and the password: Kratisu, were given commemorative necklaces. The rest of us got warm fuzzy feelings. Congratulations to the winners: Alice [TI] Lenay [PAS] Buck [MoFo] Kiss [MoFo] Argon [H.E.L.P.] Radnoir [MoFo] Orion Pandora Spocks [KHV] Lestat [MoFo] Hera [TI] (List of winners compiled by Queen Mum) And Congratulations to the EMs of Sonoma for a great first event! | ||

Viktor Cotume | ||
Posted on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 2:49 AM EST by Katlene (Oceania) | ||
The cold stone provided diminutive comfort for the wearisome ache in his bones accrued from spending so long in the confined, dank quarters. It had been four years, four long years of slowly wasting away in this ruinous pit. The spark of youth had fled his once vibrant, grey eyes, leaving nothing but dark, vacant sockets and deep lines that marred his brow reflecting the burden of age he now felt within. He saw no bars, the smell of death and decay eluded his senses as did the agonizing cries of the fellow captives further down the dim corridor. Here he resided, in his own clandestine, tormented existence deep within the bowels of Yew. He recalled his last visitor, a man… perhaps his father, their face had been distorted by the shadows but he had known the voice, it had been all too familiar… unlike the words that emanated from his lips. Sinister… treason… vile… murderer. How long ago had that been? It didn’t matter… time seemed to have lost all significance. Voices and the soft drone of footfalls brought his mind from the fanatical place in which his sanity dwelled… Someone approached. A resounding, metallic clink besieged his sensitive ears as one by one the steel hinges of the crude cell sprung open. Slightly obscured by the murky shadows, a figure transpired in the narrow doorway, their petite form encased in folds of dark material. “This is your lucky day, Cotume,” --- Her intense violet eyes shone through muddled darkness of the courtyard, gleaming like beacons in the late ebon haze. She moved like a blur of living shadow, quickly yet with a practiced, deadly grace. The nobleman’s brow furrowed deeply; tightly stretching the weatherworn, almost translucent skin across his forehead as his eyes narrowed towards the approaching figure. “Ah Viktor Cotume, how long has it been? Twenty years?” Drawled her familiar, feminine voice. “And just look at you, an officer within the ranks of the Royal Guard,” a wry smirk played across her ashen features. “What... What do you want with me fiend?” Viktor stammered, his countenance perturbed by her presence. “Fiend? So brusque! What ever happened to exchanging pleasantries, Viktor?” she grinned, mischief dancing in her luminous eyes. Viktor averted his gaze abruptly; the mere sight of this creature made his skin crawl. “If you recall, Viktor… when I found you, you were nothing more than a foolish, pathetic boy languishing away in some filthy cell!” The words sounded almost alien as they escaped her lips in an ill-humored hiss. “Who had you released and your charges erased… you owe me Viktor and I have come to collect!” | ||

Personnel Record - Captain Duffield | ||
Posted on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 2:38 AM EST by Katlene (Oceania) | ||
Royal Britannian Guard, Personnel Record (Extract) Name: Ellis Corbin Duffield Rank: Captain Born: 15th January 309, Healer of Vesper (Vesper) Father Name: Corbin Argyle Duffield Father Occupation: Merchant Mother Name: Ingrid Alice Duffield nee Rosethorn Mother Occupation: Artist Current Assignment: Castle British Barracks ~ Character Reference ~ To Captain Johnson, I'm not one for pomp and ceremony, as you know, so I will be brief. I am putting forward my Lieutenant Duffield as a candidate for your replacement. I have known him since Private and while under my command has displayed nothing but upstanding qualities for his rank. He has a sharp eye and a quick mind and is well exercised in combat skills. His campaigns such as the solen Reconnaissance, defense of Vesper during the Ophidian invasion and organising of the successful rescue of Lord Harold demonstrate fine leadership skills. I believe Lieutenant Duffield to be a capable strategist on and off the battlefield. He has confided in me his desire to do well and progress in his career and I see this as an opportunity for him to make the next step. Best regards, Captain Donald, Vesper Barracks. P.S I look forward to catching up with you at the Keg and Anchor in Trinsic again like old times. ~ Character Reference ~ To Captain Johnson, I recently heard of your consideration of Lieutenant Duffield of Vesper Barracks to succeed you. I would like to urge you extreme caution in making your decision. Lieutenant Duffield, also known as "Ducky" by his crowd of friends, has a suspicious history. His "courageous" exploits are constantly shrouded with unanswered questions. How did half his command die on a mere "reconnaissance" of a Solen Hive? There is a hive entrance a days ride from Vesper through pristine woods, safe woods! Bandits? Hardly. He claims they were assaulted by solen enemies to the red solen but we've seen no evidence of such. On his "rescue" of Lord Harold of Vesper, I have witnesses who will attest to Lord Harold and "Ducky" arguing in hushed angry tones just days before his "disappearance". Did he arrange for Lord to be kidnapped? There was no ransom demand, very odd. We STILL do not know the identity of the person behind the whole affair. What has "Ducky" done about that? How did he know where Lord Harold was? Did guilt play a part in his rescue? Or was he blackmailed by one of the many witnesses? Dark aspersions indeed. Should you wish to review the file of evidence I have against Lieutenant Duffield for treason I would be more than happy to have scribes makes copies and forward them to you. Yours sincerely, Lieutenant Gibbs, Vesper Barracks. | ||

Archives:Twelfth Day off Equinox. | ||
Posted on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 11:31 PM EST by Lair Spirit (Oceania) | ||
Finally, the whole translated transcript. The shorthand this writer used is quite magnificent, so much so I might adopt a style of it for myself. I digress. I will now follow with the rest of the "Twelfth Day off Equinox". The snake queen creates another gate. Out of this cold hell I hope. Feet numb but dry; boots cost enough! "Who completed the Chaos Path?" the Matriarch asks, looking around. As before, voices call out and hands are raised. People jostle for foremost position. Elbows out; the heat is stifling. The snake queen beckons a yellow robed elf forward wearing some freaky elf headband like they wear. Aqua hair?! "Where are the forces Petrify?" the yellow robe is asked. He glances to the crowd, menacing stares and some curiously mocking smiles are aimed at him. "I believe one is in Montor in Ilshenar." he says. Someone stirs in the crowd, the hairs on the back of my neck raise. Words of Power. The yellow robe is suddenly the flaming robe; as if it isn't hot enough here. Attacked here? Can't see who cast, faces are all portraits of pure innocence. Quickly healed the yellow robe pushes on unfazed. "That was uncalled for. Chaos or not we are all on the same side." the Matriarch says, "Concentrate Serpents." The crowd looks drugged again. Dehydrated perhaps; yes someone has collapsed at the back. Watching the table, waiting for more cheap tricks. Sure enough, as if on cue, it appears. A ruby red rose, incised with Enthusiasm. "Another is at Gwenno's grave. I believe it's Emotion." says yellow robe. I try to push closer to the tables. Squinting, I can't see anything. No mirrors, no hidden boxes or lever or switches. This is quite convincing trickery. The rose does not look affected by the heat at all. There is no water around this area, enchanted no doubt. As suddenly and as quietly some sort of fleshy organ appears on the table to the right. Red as the rose the heart has Emotion carved into it. "One more Petrify." she says. The crowd falls mostly silent again, concentrating. The crowd is beginning to smell. People really should wash more, change their clothing perhaps. Yes, the walking rags in front of me is most unpleasant. Giant serpents attack the outer crowd of people. An efreet too! Dispatched of quickly, no deaths (sadly). Missed appearance of a pile of chains with Tolerance cut into them. "The Shrine is open Petrify, know thee the word of Chaos?" Picture courtesy of Ovrmage. "I might," says yellow robe, looking as uncertain as green robe, "tenet." Nothing happened. The Matriarch stirred but Petrify suddenly disappeared, the last image of him was mouthing some other word. Lee? Leet? Seat? Unsure. Startled gasps around me cause new unpleasant smells to waft to my nostrils. Need air! "It seems he is awaiting us at the Temple of Serpents. This Shrine will also open after we have visited Balance." Temple? These shrines lead to a Temple with those modge podge words of power? Sounds like there is another Shrine out there too. The snake queen pushes past people and creates another gate. Nearly first I rush through. GRASS! Cooler climate. Better. "The Matriarch announces the Shrine of Balance opens after Shrines Order and Chaos open. "The Word is secret still I believe. Any here know it?" She looks around. People look to each other. I look at my pen. No-one appears to have followed the Path of Balance. "I will gate us to the Temple of Serpents. Petrify awaits us there." "The Matriarch creates a gate to Temple of Serpents." The snake queen pushes past the crowd a ways and made another gate. People shove through the gate, pets treading on other citizens. Smelly beasts, I keep clear. More grass. A huge building surrounded by some sort of moat. No, a temple on a lagoon perhaps. White marble walls, no clear view from here and no clear way to reach it. Tall black monolithic gates in front. Left on pedestal sits a Fire Ruby of Chaos, opposite it an Ice Diamond of Order. Firmly affixed, I can't remove. Petrify is standing on steps leading into the "Temple" looking pleased with himself. Snake queen joins him. "Welcome to the Temple of Serpents. The only way in is via a Command word at a Shrine of Serpents. Petrify has earned a place within. Are my other Commanders Present?" Does she have an army? Is this cause for concern for Commander Faolain? A large number of body of people fight for balance, what happens when the scales tip the other way? Guards against Serpents? Interesting. Two more people step up to the bank of the lagoon. Both in green robes. Ovrmage and Cymoril? Interview? They disappear and reappear on Temple steps. "Come Serpents, we will go inside and see if we can effect this summoning." "The Matriarch, Petrify, Commanders Cymoril, Thorn and Ovrmage prepare to summon the Great Earth Serpent." Picture courtesy of Ovrmage. "The Great Earth Serpent is summoned." Picture courtesy of Ovrmage. The Matriarch, three Commanders and Petrify walk up the steps and disappear leaving us plebeians outside. Some recall away and moments later appear on the steps of temple to disappear inside right after. No-one comes out to share knowledge. Quiet. RUMBLING!!! Quiet again. Finally! The snake queen emerges, with more following her than went in. "I know where the fight will commence." Fight? I can't fight! But my public! They need to know... The snake creates another gate. Unsure whether to go through many hang back. Don't blame them. Fighting? Quite barbaric, if it involves me. "Go!" she commanded. Power behind the words prompted the mass to move through. My shoes, really, were not meant for so much mundane walking. Through the gate. Trees, grass and... grass. No sign of civilisation anywhere. Where are we? Many wander directionless. "The Serpent said we must meet here." the snake queen says. Tops. What Serpent? "The Great Earth Serpent we have summoned. He says that an ancient enemy has also been summoned to this plane." Hearing a buzzing sound, move towards small eastern rise. Looking over I see many recognised and some suspect Minions chanting. Cellophane? No, Crysophane! Over and over, summoning perhaps their champion as the serpents supposedly did? Looking back to Serpents I see a HUGE serpent type creature. Coloured in shades of brown and green, it towers over twice as high as any person here. It's moving fast towards me and the Minions. Looking around, a giant spider stood in the midst of them; the chanting has stopped. Crysophane spots the Great Earth Serpent and runs for it at amazing speed. Without any preamble they attack one another. Minions start attacking the giant snake, serpents attacking the giant spider. Getting somewhere safer. "Poison sweeps the battlefield, sickening most combatants." I... can't run away in time. The gaseous cloud reaches...SICK... DIZZY...WRETCHING...CAN'T BREATHE...PAIN...BLOOD... This is where the author finishes. Blood has spattered the page causing some ink to run near the end but I'm confident I have translated it correctly. There is no evidence to suggest the author died but I do not think that had he or she lived, they would have left their work behind. To find closure on this battle I have researched this battle and found some people willing to tell me the end. | ||

About Love and Happiness... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Posted on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:44 PM EST by Medea (Drachenfels) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
About Love and Happiness... The happy chatter from the people gathering at Castle British was getting louder. As announced a few days before the help of the citizens of Sosaria was needed. Dozens of curious onlookers but also tough adventurers were attending. Shortly after the predicted time, Roms appeared. He told us that he fell in love with a woman who lived at the castle. Until today he failed to get her attention - that's why our help was needed. So we had to travel to Britain's graveyard, because that's where we meet Julie for the very first time. She was a mage of the court and searched for a spell from the Gargoyles, but without luck. She couldn't manage to get hold of it until now. Thanks to this hint the group returned to Roms and he sent us on our adventure into the Gargoyle City in Ilshenar, Ver Lor Reg. We should find more evidence there. In the middle of the city we found a crystal ball which answered to the well known catchword riddle with Humility, Honor, Valor, Justice, Chaos, Compassion. Chaos, listed with virtues? The crystal ball answered silently with Go to the Empath Abbey shrine in Yew. Our journey had definitely begun. The people scattered and travelled to Yew. Near the bank and in the room of the ankh there was another crystal ball. It had the next question ready: May ____ be my Sword, Courage my Shield, and Love guide them both. This wisdom, packed within a few words... this principle was engraved on a shield within Lord British's throne room. "Truth, may truth be my sword...", I whispered. The magic sphere answered promptly. Go to the graveyard of Cove, it told me. Moongates were openend, recall spells spoken and the horses driven towards the mentioned place. At the cemetery in the woods we had to go into the grave. Another crystal ball... I don't exist in Trammel, who am I? it asked us. Khaldun was the answer, and the next hint was given: Go to the Portal which leads from Vesper to Buccaneer's Den. In front of the massive stone-arch another crystal ball was glowing in the dawn. Riddle, I whispered. Only mages can enter this place. was the next hint for me. This one was easy, only Wind had a restriction like that. Go to the entrance of Wind. was the answer too. I recalled there in a moment and found a lonley crystal ball near the entrance to Dungeon Wind. Who will never touch the sun? it asked me. This was a tough one, after a while I answered with Shadow and got the answer: Go to the Hidden Valley near Trinsic. Luckily I had my dozens of rune books with me so it only took another moment to travel there. The monks in the small valley looked confused and fled as I appeared, histerically screaming. "Must be an Invasion thing," I thought, but my thoughts were not distracted very long as I saw the next magic sphere waiting at the steps to the monk's small tower. What is clean before and dirty after washing? I tried the actual tips from my granny, but to no avail. I spoke out the word Water and the crystal answered - Go to the Yew waterfalls. The summoned Moongate brought me to the Shrine of Justice, after a short ride a small group gathered beside the bridge. No one could hear the other one, the thunderous waterfalls were always amazing. What is always between Lord British and Lord Blackthorn? This was indeed a strange question, we tried serveral catchwords, without any luck. As we talked more or less clueless the word and was spoken out loud. The crystal answered immediately - Go to the entrance of Shame. Nice joke, we laughed for a while and travelled together to Dungeon Shame. Cowardice : Courage = Hatred : _____ was the question now. Love was the right answer. Go to the telescope in Moonglow. we heard. One of my favourite places, it took us only a brief moment to travel there. Beside the big telescope a small crystal ball was sitting silently, obviously looking somewhat embarrassed and so tiny... Trammel and Felucca are the moons of ____. was the last question. Sosaria, of course, our beloved land. Go to the Lycaeum in Moonglow. the sphere answered. We were there only a few seconds later. Within the rooms backmost we found another crystal ball, the one with the solution we were looking for! While Darius was molesting every single human he recognized outside, we wrote down the ancient protection spell - Uus Ort Sanct In Ex. We packed up our books and travelled back to Britain. At the Councelor's Hall a lot of seats were already taken as I entered the building. Presumably I was one of the last travellers to arrive. My book with the solution to the ancient spell was no longer needed, and after the hand out of the prices for the fastest and also luckiest participants - the lot or better, the right crystal decided - the whole group went back to Castle British. Everyone was curious, how Roms would proceed now and get the attention from his beloved One. Julie was in the courtyard, near the fountain, as Roms approached her. "Julie, I have a present for you! When I heard you are looking for this special enchantment I went to get it for you. Please take this book, I wrote it down there..." - "You did... what? Really? But why?!" Julie looked surprised. "Because I love you!", blurted Roms, who could not hold his feelings back longer. "You never paid attention to me so I had to earn it somehow." Julie smiled softly. "But... Yes, I have been a bit unfair to you but you have to understand... You live in a different world than me..." Roms disrupted her explanations gently. "Stop, I understand that dear." Julie looked at him directly now: "How can I ever return my gratittude?" Roms appeared a bit shy now and giggled: "Well, there is something...Would you spend an evening in the tavern with me, to see if we too... you know...". Now Julie was the one who giggled: "Not for love nor money I would pass out on that, but on one condition... I will choose the tavern." Roms cheered and danced instantly: "Yehaw! This is the greatest day in my life! Lets go dear." Afterwards Brianna the Storyteller appeared and told the people still gathered around the fountain that true love knows no bounds - Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! And the moral of the story is - EM Immortal would love to see more Weddings on Drachenfels! Feigheit : Mut = Hass : ____ fragte man uns nun. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

What Have You Done?! | ||
Posted on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:09 PM EST by AirmidCecht (LakeSuperior) | ||
Is there justification in life for a life? When faced with a split second decision do you allow compassion to surface or do you bury it to accomplish the task at hand? An untold number of miners have been killed recently by some type of beast. This much was known as we talked to Michel in Britain and observed a corpse ourselves outside the mines in Minoc. Thrym directed us to the Master-At-Arms in Minoc who spoke of Dash at the Compassion Shrine. The Master-At-Arms seemed to allude to the Royal Guard and we were directed to assemble in the throne room in Castle British at 8cst. As we gathered much was said, in fact a lot was said at times until it filled the room like the sound of geese overhead clucking away about this or that. Then some stood idly by, not sure what to expect but willing to give ear to any orders dispatched on what to do with a strange beast. It was Sergeant Hawkwood that would appear in front of us all with an announcement on this unknown beast saying, “the bloodied bodies I have seen of past miners speaks against any possibilities of being innocent.” The crowd seemed ready to rally as he next said, “Look, as far as I am concerned this monster has killed decent, honorable people.” It seemed all there was left to do was await word on the location of the beast. When it was brought to Sergeant Hawkwood that the beast was indeed located back at Mt. Kendall, Marcus Murphy opened up a gate for all who dared to look the creature in the face. At Mt. Kendall an army of Gargoyle Destroyers had assembled but they were not immediately hostile! They seemed to stare at us in surprise that such an army would assemble against them but once the first blade of steel was heard the gargoyles were swift to respond! The battle continued up the path into the mouth of the cave of Mt. Kendall. As I was healing those closest to me and slowly making my way, the others cut their way to confront the hairy hybrid gargoyle beast. Had I seen the beast for myself perhaps it’s story would have been told through it’s eyes but as it was I got there only in time to see that in its wake was left two now orphaned infants! This strong beast was a mother and it was slain by those who wielded their weapons first at the command of Sergeant Hawkwood. Some I hear stood in it’s path to prevent any destruction without first capturing the beast instead. In the end though we were left with the pittance of regret from our Sergeant and a great deal of compassion from those willing to camp the cave and look after the juvenile dwellers. We went back to the Castle to discuss the demise of these new hybrids and it was decided that those who took life away from a blind mother who mistook the miners with pointy things as a threat to her babies, would now be in charge of the orphans. In the meantime Sergeant Hawkwood could not deny those that did follow his orders as he commenced some to come forward and bare a robe of shame at slaying the beast or honor at retaliating in the name of the innocent miners, depending of course on your viewpoint. Those who showed true compassion to the hybrid gargoyle and it's babies were given a lantern of Enlightened Commiseration so that all may know their heart towards the least among us is true. Some of us returned to the cave but noticed the anxiety was high with these new ones now without the comfort of their mother so Watcher volunteered to, well *watch* over them through the night and a New World Order Guard stood watch outside the cave out of their line of sight. This is how it would be then until further word on how to properly take care of them might be reached in a request that went to Gargoyle City. These hybrid orphans are closest to gargoyles and their advice is necessary. I had gone by the cave a time or two to check on the orphans the last few days but always tried to stay out of their site so they would not be alarmed. Finally two days later, word came to us at the Counselor Guild hall from EM Quantum. A letter from the gargoyles in Gargoyle City was returned with the following recommendations: * Since the parents were killed by us they feel we are responsible for their care * They advise against moving the orphans because they are perfectly at home in caves and this is the place their parents had chosen. As a hybrid of gargoyles they would have an affinity with stone * People should feel free to visit them as long as they don’t harm them * They also suggest that people wanting to assist in caring for them try to hand them foods instead of scattering them about. They will not respect that since they are actually intelligent beings * No gargoyle of any age will respect intimidation or fear Quantum ended by saying that he had word that declaration has come down granting the orphans freedom to dwell in the caves as long as necessary and that no one is to harm them while they remain there. With that we ended the evening with idle chatter and a promise to get the word out to all that would listen. So please do not take the actions of their parents against these orphans. Take care of both the widows of the miners slain and these babies with full compassion as we move on from this treachery. | ||

A Orc Wedding is to take place Feb 18th 2009 | ||
Posted on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 9:18 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Being that the bride and groom are both orcs the nuptials will take place at the Trammel Orc Fort that is south of Yew. Because many of the bride and grooms relatives will be in attendance they request that human and elf guests wear a mask of orcish kin, to show respect to the orc tribes in attendance. If you do not have one the wedding party has graciously offered to provide some for guests. The blessed ceremony will be carried out by one of the two emissaries and will be followed by a reception featuring many fine orcish dishes. (In other words if you’re hungry I would suggest getting something to eat before coming to the wedding.) A rune to the wedding location is provided for those who wish to attend just outside the door of the (EM)Councilors Hall in Britain on the justice tile. For those of you who do not know what a “Mask of Orcish Kin” is here is a brief description below. A Mask of Orcish Kin: While wearing this mask, orcs will not attack you. When you attack an Orc, or steal from an Orc, or allow your pet to do damage to an Orc (all while wearing the mask), the mask will explode and you will receive damage from the explosion. Every time you put on the orcish mask, you lose some karma. | ||

Love and Misconception: The Tale of the Depressed Juggernaut | ||
Posted on Monday, February 16, 2009, 5:26 PM EST by Stupid Miner (Pacific) | ||
Love and Misconception - Pacific The Tale of the Depressed Juggernaut As Narrated by Omo Trovi, and reported by Stupid Miner This is the tale of a Depressed Juggernaut. Before he was a Depressed Juggernaut, before he was a Blackthorn Juggernaut, he was a man. *Gasps.* You heard me right. A man. Just like me. Like you. *Points at the crowd.* He was a happy farmer; had a lovely wife. Then the war came. Lines of battle were drawn. Forced to go to battle in a distant far-off land for reasons yet unknown. Betrayed by overwhelming forces and mortally wounded. He took an offer that could give him life again. Little did he realize he would no longer be human. Turned into a remorseless, unfeeling killing machine. No longer thinking like a human. Day in and day out “Kill humans.” Well, perhaps occasionally, “Kill elves.” Then one day… one of these adventurers heavily equipped and a bit overzealous went on a rampage throughout the area the Juggernaut was stationed at. The brightly-colored adventurer stood there facing the Juggernaut. The Juggernaut thought “Kill human.” The adventurer thought “Easy kill, free loot!” The battle, to some, was epic, full of things like ‘With a scream the adventurer charged the Juggernaut whirling his Maul of Doom. The Juggernaut lumbered at him with death in its eyes. The clash and bang was horrendous. Blood flying everywhere. Dust rose, obscuring things. Finally it was over, the Juggernaut was lying on the floor, defeated.’ To others was, ‘What happened? He took a swing at the Juggernaut head and it went down?’ *laughs.* It all depends on who you talk to, really. Regardless… after all this the Juggernaut was not dead. No, in fact, something has changed with him. But what? That is a tale for you to discover yourself. However, if you should decide to go find the answer, know this: he was last seen lumbering north away from the Ilshennar Blackthorn Castle. - Omo Trovi At this everyone dashed off to Ilshennar to the shrine north of Blackthorns Castle where we found the Depressed Juggernaut. He indicated that he remembered his life before becoming a Juggernaut and wanted to become a human again and that there was a certain Gargoyle blacksmith in Ver Lor Reg that could help. The Gargoyle blacksmith sent us to Exodus Dungeon to get him a piece he needed from a Red Exodus Overlord. We ran to Exodus, and after obtaining a nice little collection of death robes received the Muon Capacitor from the Overlord. We returned to the Gargoyle with the required part, and this is, I must admit, where this reporter fell behind the rest of the group. From what I gather the Gargoyle sent us to a Healer in Umbra. From there we had to go to the Crystal of Light dungeon, and since my funds were low (We news reporters get a pittance for a salary), I can only guess what happened in there. I’m pretty sure the others found a healer in there and were sent to an associate in Britain who returned Depressed Juggernaut to human form. Turns out his name is Jonas. He sent us to tell his wife at their cottage south of the Britain Blacksmith’s Guild. Heather thanked us and we took off as fast as we could toward the castle. The first five of us to get to the castle and give the password got prizes, but 10 more prizes were given out to various people for a variety of reasons such as: putting up a heroic effort despite great adversity; merely asking for a reward; and answering trivia questions. All in all, despite the few hiccups this reporter had along the journey, the event was expertly executed. It was all around good fun for most of us. I’d like to congratulate EMs of Pacific for a great first event! Five Main Winners: Chelsie, Silk, Pfloyd, Ghost, Pierre. | ||

Biography of Lady Lucretia Genovese | ||
Posted on Monday, February 16, 2009, 3:28 PM EST by Sahra Swift (Catskills) | ||
Hello Catskills, The same kind person who provided me the tale of Owain Surrey has also passed along a story about Lucretia Genovese. The steward paused a moment at the door of the old cabin, doubting that such a homely place could actually be the residence of his lord’s daughter. Cracks in the crude wood walls of the structure emanated light into the evening outside, giving him hope that perhaps at least some peasant residing here might be able to direct him on to the address he sought. The steward took a sharp breath, then knocked boldly upon the door. | ||

King Casca Takes Questions from the People | ||
Posted on Monday, February 16, 2009, 10:51 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Lord Casca graciously held a forum on Sunday night where he offered to answer citizens of his realms questions at Lord British’s Castles throne room. There he stood in front of the people and took questions and answered them to the best of his ability. Because so many people had questions at times it got very confusing so the following transcript has been edited by the Staff here at Stratics to make it easier for you our readers to understand. Lord Casca: Greetings, Citizens! I am glad to see you all again. I apologize I have not been about as of late, many things are being put into effect. **That’s when someone asked bluntly if he had anything to do with the kidnapping of EM Kasaven.** Lord Casca: EM? The one in the trance? He is useless! Word has come to me of Clainin. I did not know he was incapacitated. Last I spoke of him.. **Someone then interrupted asking him about the strange mouse traps that were all over the land.** Lord Casca: The mouse traps were not placed by me... I have a plan to end the invasions! **Gil-galad: You would be in dire straits, were Clannin's wishes known** Lord Casca: Ah but that is not true. I wish to bring Clainin back out of his trance. I think he has the power to end these invasions! I cannot do it alone… I have tried, but I do not have the people's support, apparently! I think Clainin is powerful enough to influence whoever it is that controls these Crimson Dragons, and he may also perhaps know the secrets summoning other 'dragons'.. **Katherine Elle: You could not prevent a kidnapping in your capital city. How can we trust you with others?** Lord Casca: The guards were busy watching over your meeting! It was the meeting which proved a distraction so that Kasaven could not be protected. Though you all have my thanks for bringing him back. I spoke to him earlier, and he is feeling well. As far as Umbra and Malas. They are not of my jurisdiction to Tax. nor would I want to. **Sadie Mae: Casca weren't you an investigator before being called to the throne?** Lord Casca: I did work for the law, correct before being placed upon the council. **Gil-galad: When Clannin is well, would you step aside? Let him be Steward in absence of the True King?** Lord Casca: That is a worthy question, Gil-galad! If Clainin is well and able to speak freely, and think freely. I would bow to him, but it is not only my decision, but also that of my council. **Gwenyth: And who is this "council"??** Lord Casca: My council resides under Blackthorne's castle, they refuse to come to the people until the invasion are over. Their advice has become worrisome of late, though…. **Katherine Elle: Can you please explain why the tax collectors you've hired are members of the thieves guild?** Lord Casca: The tax collectors were never paid! It was the advice of my council to invade Trinsic for their unloyalty, but I did not, and will not! I do not see the reason to bring more bloodshed upon us. If Trinsic does not pay taxes, they simply cannot be afforded royal guards. **Katherine Elle: What is your explanation for hiring those of ill repute to tax?** Lord Casca: The tax collectors were prior tax collectors. They were not hired under my reign, only issued forth. Why should guards be paid to protect those who do not support the Britannian government? Those who have taken part in the defending of the land will be thanked in due time. With peace and prosperity, among other things. **When asked if he had any knowledge or control over the Sea Sirens he answered as follows.** Lord Casca: The sea sirens are beings of all their own power. They have been around much longer than any of us.. **Once again he was asked about clainin and what was being done to waken him.** Lord Casca: As for Clainin's awaking. I do not have an absolute way to wake him. That is one reason I am here. In honesty, I did not even know he was as ill as he is until I visited him a few days ago and he spoke not but nonsense.. Are there any more serious questions? Or should I be off? **Bishop: I want to know why u placed those mousetraps Casca... does sherry the mouse know your secrets??** Lord Casca: Where is Sherry? I have never once seen her act in the defense of the land. **Silent Bob: any idea who controls the crimson dragons?** Lord Casca: The Crimson Dragons are absolute evil, and thus can only be controlled by evil. I think those robed figures, that the blasphemer Owain Surrey talks about have a hand in their creation. **Katherine Elle: So even though you are thankful that we saved Kasaven?** Lord Casca: Kasaven is a good man! Owain, speaks lies! He never told you the truth, did he? Sent you on a wild hunt. **When asked about the status of Lord Dupre and the Lady Dawn he answered.** Lord Casca: Lord Dupre and Lady Dawn have gone with Lord British. Where they are, no one knows. Perhaps Clainin would know? **Katherine Elle: You told us you looked for them.** Lord Casca: I looked, yet I did not find, is that not apparent? If I did find them they would be here, not I. **Katherine Elle: Why did you say she went with Lord British?** Lord Casca: *sighs* What have I done to bring so much hate? When Clainin sings my praises, will you all finally trust me? When we end the invasions, with his help, will you trust me? **Phantroneous: When I see you pick up a weapon, and fight alongside us.** Lord Casca: I am not a fighter! I have few powers other than that of the pen and of guidance. Does anyone have any suggestions for waking Clainin? How was it he was put into his slumber? **Katherine Elle: So when your laws hold the weight of the virtues.** Lord Casca: My laws may not hold the weight of virtues, but they hold the weight of common sense! The virtues cannot save us from the Ophidians! They do not respect the virtues, they would slaughter us. The advisors.. They do not think Clainin should be brought back from his spasms and seizures. I am here against their will! They fear his power, and I understand their concern, as he is at the moment, he is insane. Can you imagine him conscious, and insane, with his power? Still I wish to wake him.. yet in a way that will also rid him of his insanity, and keep him, and Britannia, safe. As for Trinsic.. The taxes have been repealed.. perhaps that will satisfy you! Until then, I ask that YOU also provide my council and help me find a way to rid Clainin of his ills. **Jean Smithe: and changing his caregivers would not be ill advised?** Lord Casca: That is a possibility! Then in the same sense we must find out WHO keeps him in such a trance. We will meet again when both I, my council, and you, my people, have discovered ways to awake Clainin. Until then I retire. Thank you all for coming again, and stand hard against the invasions. I promise they will end soon.. Good day, and be safe! With those closing words Casca walked off leaving many with more questions than before. Some were moved by Cascas word and others were angered leaving us a land still divided. Afterwards a few people who listened to him speak decided to go visit Cainin and check on his status. As of right now he is still gripped by a fever and unconscious. Let all of us hope that an answer to what grips him can be found soon. | ||

EM Event 15 Feb 2009: The Sea Sirens Nests | ||
Posted on Monday, February 16, 2009, 9:26 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Last evening Sunday the 15th of February Kasaven called the people together at the councilors hall in Britain to inform them that he had found the nesting grounds of the sea sirens that had held him in a trance for so long. He then invited those gathered to come along with him and help remove the threat of the sirens for good. He opened a moongate to a beach where he had ships waiting to transport the volunteers out to sea where the sea sirens could be found. The ships packed full of eager citizens sailed out and it was not long before the sea sirens nesting area was spotted. The monstrous creatures came up from the depths and engaged the ships that dared enter their nesting grounds. Some of the ships attempted to maneuver into positions where those who carried melee weapons could engage them. While others cast spell after spell in an attempt to slay these feared beasts. It was a long battle for as soon as one of the beasts would fall a new one would break the surface of the water to replace it. The air itself tingled with magical energy, and the sky was almost darkened by so many arrows in flight as the battle raged on. On the ships closest to the Sea Sirens you could see the decks covered in human and elf bodies, as the Siren lashed out at their tormentors. Still the forces fighting for Kasaven were relentless and won the day as the last Sea Siren let out its death cry as its huge head fell down into the water never to rise again. (Still this reporter wonders if there may be more of them down there who did not rise, or were there eggs down there too? We may never know until one shows up again.) Kasaven quickly rushed to each of the Sea Sirens carcasses and skinned them before they sank back into the depths that they had come from. He then invited everyone back to the councilors hall to reward some of the warriors and to offer his thanks in general to those who were brave enough to help him remove this threat for good. Kasaven thanked the crowd over and over for their efforts as he handed out some sashes to some of the people who had participated in the nights event, and even cracked a few jokes to the good humored group. After he ran out of sashes he informed everyone that Lord Casca our new king was going to make a public appearance and take questions from the citizens over at the throne room in Lord British’s castle and encouraged everyone to head over there to hear what he had to say. | ||

Skara Brae Invasion Force Repelled!! | ||
Posted on Monday, February 16, 2009, 8:16 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Sunday the 15th of Feb 2009 the peaceful island city of Skara Brae was struck by yet another of those invasion forces that have plagued many of our fair cities in the last few months. A call went out for individuals who were brave and skilled in the combat arts to come help defend the besieged city. Many of the lands finest warriors, mages and tamers descended on Skara and engaged in fierce combat with this so called “Army of Shadows” and the Elementals that supported them. The streets ran red with blood from both armies as the defenders tried the push the invading troops back. That’s when many of the Skara Brae forces noticed someone new had joined the conflict on their side. It none other than EM Kasaven himself who assisted many of defenders with his weapon Entropy. Fighting side by side with as many people as he could, he lifted spirits and rallied the troops on to victory. Then the moment that most everyone looks least forward to happened. An fearsome Crimson Dragon appeared and unleashed its powers on anyone who ventured near it. Kasaven being the man that he is rushed in the combat the monster and the people followed him. The dragon put up a furious fight but the shear skills of the defenders was too much for it and it fell quickly. After the battle was over Kasaven spent a few moments in camaraderie with the victors enjoying the knowledge that yet another city had been saved again. Still the question looms of where are these invaders coming from, and who is in charge of them? | ||

In Search of the Beast (and the location of the event at 8cst) After speaking with Michel Nontink a few days ago, I went in search of this foul beast he spoke of as well as his savior, Thrym. My quest has led me to find a few odd things, including a desecrated corpse...and not much detail...though the Master-At-Arms in Minoc seemed to know of the crazy man Dash by the Compassion Shrine and possibly more. Perhaps tonight at 8pm cst we will know more! ***Update: This was posted outside the Counselor Guild Hall in North Britain*** | ||

Tuesday's Zoo Spawn will be at Bedlam | ||
Posted on Saturday, February 14, 2009, 9:55 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
This Tuesday's Zoo spawn will take us back to Bedlam! (or take us there for the first time for those that haven't been before) Date: Tuesday, February 17th 2009 Time: Meeting At: 7:30pm EST Leaving At: 7:50pm EST Spawn Starts At: 8:00pm EST Spawn: Bedlam Meeting Point: Tram Yew Gate (old "Friday Night Hunt" meet up spot) This is a Champion Spawn that many people have never done before and should prove very challenging to complete. So if you are looking for something a little different come join the Zoo Spawn Group and have a night you will not forget. Just remember all the gold and SOTs that fall go towards helping keep the Zoo up. To enter Bedlam you must complete the following quest first. Go to Umbra and find the NPC “Aernya Mistress of Admissions” whom can be found outside the Bloodletter building. (This building can be found in the South West part of the city.) Start off by talking to her and accept the “Tuition Reimbursement Quest”. She will send you to talk to “Gorrow the Mayor” who can be found at the Luna Bank. He will start you on the quest “You Scratch My Back” where you must bring him back 1 Unicorn Rib, 2 Ka-Rin Brains and 5 Pixie Legs. You will lose tons of karma killing these creatures to recover the desired items, so you may want to either use a evil character such as a necromancer or outright buy them from a player ran vendor. Once you have collected the items mark them as quest items and return to see Gorrow. He will sign your tuition reimbursement and you can return to see Aernya in Umbra. She will start you on a new quest called “Not Quite That Easy” and this quest will let you enter Bedlam now. To enter Bedlam go into the bloodletter building and find the iron maiden that sits in the north west corner. Double clicking the iron maiden and you will enter the Bedlam area. (If you wish to complete the “Not Quite That Easy” quest you should go to the building that is a bit north West of the swamp in the middle and find “Master Gnosos the Necromancer” in it. ) When entering Bedlam be ready to hide, invisible yourself or flee back out the door because the spawn can be very heavy in there. The Bedlam Champion spawn (Sometimes refered to as the “Pestilence Spawn”.) can be found in the bottom level of an crypt that can be found in a graveyard that is west of the entrance. The Champion Spawn area is small and very confined, and if you leave through the crypt entrance chances are there will be monsters waiting on you. Thus making this spawn one of the tougher ones to complete. Below is a list of the creatures that spawn as you level it up. Level 1:boglings and plague spawn Level 2: plague beasts and bog things level 3: plague beast lords and interred grizzles level 4: fetid essences and pestilant bandages Champion: Ilhenir the Stained. With the champion spawns having a chance at dropping items you also may earn one of the following items: Necromancer Shroud, Oblivion's Needle, Detective Boots, LT sash, Plague Beast Statue and an Red Death Statue. | ||

Rescue of Emissary Kasaven | ||
Posted on Saturday, February 14, 2009, 7:06 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Word had reached the people that Lord Owain Surrey had desired for them to meet him in the throne room of Lord British’s castle at 7 p.m. EST on the 13th of February. A large crowd had gathered to see what was so important that he would call the people together. Could it be that Lord Owain had found the location of Emissary Kasaven, either through his valiant searches or an vision that came to him as he slept? (For those of you who have not been paying attention to current events, EM Kasaven was kidnapped two weeks ago from the Councilors Hall in Britain, that the EMs now call home. No one witnessed this crime because most everyone was at the “Chamber of Virtues Gathering” that was hosted by Solomon Wright to discuss what direction we the people of Britannia would like to take for our future. The only person in the general area was EM Annendora and she was knocked unconscious without seeing her assailants.) All the gathered citizens eyes followed Lord Owain as he walked up in front of everyone by Lord British’s old throne. He then slid his helmet off his head and spoke to the waiting people. “Hail, Britannians, I am gladdened to see so many have answered my call. I bring you all together to free Kasaven from the manacles that bind him. For those who do not know, he was taken from this very counselors hall….” He looked like he was lost in his thoughts for a second then glanced around looking a small bit embarrassed and then continued with what he was saying. “or the counselors hall rather .. On a Wednesday, night where a citizens meeting was used as a distraction..” His eyes glazed over slightly as if he was lost in a vision as he continued to address the engrossed people who had come to his call. “Last night a vision came to me, clear and vivid, as I took refuge in Dungeon Deceit. I had stayed up for a week prior, searching for Kasaven. I documented the coordinates of every Britannian jail cell. Then my exhaust fell to slumber, and I at last I dreamt! I saw Kasaven, dragged by two robed men, he was unconscious, yet breathing. They traversed a dark and dreary dungeon. The two dark figures dragging Kasaven passed by a pair of statues. As they passed, to their shock, the statues spoke foreboding words. Exactly like the ones in here.” Owain then raised his arms and pointed at the statues standing around the throne room as he continued his tale. “Yet they said…Beware Ye Who Enter These Halls. Yet still they walked, upon two more statues, which likewise spoke… Go No Farther, Lest Ye Face Thy Death. Yet it did not deter their malicious intent. On they travelled, down, down, deeper into the darkness of the dungeon. I grimaced even in sleep as Kasavens head bashed upon each step on as they descended the stairs. They locked Kasaven into one of the jail cells and set a magic barrier outside it. Thus he could not escape, he could not cry for help. I broke into a cold sweat as I saw a guillotine in the distance, and a Rotting corpse hobbling, swaying, flesh slowly melting from its face, maggots gnawing at its eye sockets. Oh but it gets worse! The stench was grotesque, even in sleep it filled my nostrils, causing me to spew forth acidic bile upon the cavernous walls of Deceit Dungeon where I still lay. Then I came to, jumped to my feet. Kasaven! I screamed. I knew I must give word to assemble, that this day his need is most dire. So go forth to Kasavens jail cell and rescue him! I cannot accompany you.” Finished with his request for our help Owain Surrey looked on as a buzz spread through the gathered army of rescuers that it must be Covetous he saw in his vision. Other excitedly said they knew the exact area he described in his vision and mages started opening gates to just in front of the first two statues in Covetous. People rushed through the provided gates and pushed on into the dungeon where they overran the undead that called this part of Covetous home. Brave warriors and mages let lose a maelstrom of destruction on any undead that dared to try and stop them from reaching the stairs to the lower prison level. Like a tidal wave they surged through the tight confines of the dungeon level flooding the room where Rotting Corpses are known to be. In their mad rush many missed an Ophidian sitting in a cell close by watching as this mob ripped apart the room with a guillotine in it looking for the missing emissary. That was till some decided it was odd that a Ophidian would even be down here and spoke to it. To their surprise it answered them back. When asked if the creature knew Kasaven it answered. “The Emissary? I know of him.” Others then joined in yelling questions at it as fast as they could. Here is what it said: Emissary: “Aye, he was there when I was transformed.” Transformed: “I am a product of the Ophidian War; a powerful spell was cast upon me.” Spell: “I was an experiment to give the Ophidians self awareness.” Awareness: “Aye, a failed attempt to make us civilized, making diplomacy rather than warfare a possibility.” Failed: “I was deemed more malicious after gaining knowledge and human emotion.” Knowledge: “I know much. I know of this prescient Lord Surrey and what he told you.” Prescient: “Yes, he envisioned Kasaven being physically dragged through this dungeon, but he was not.” Physically: “Yes, but if his dream is the very opposite of what is true” Lie: “Aha! Then he was seduced into leaving.” Seduced: “Yes, put in a trance, perhaps.” Trance: “Few beings powerful enough to put Kasaven in a trance” Beings: “Those she beasts surface around this time of year, could very well be” Surface: “Sea-Sirens! They can cast a love spell on any man with their deadly song.” Song: “I believe that is what happened to your emissary, shall we bargain?” Bargain: “I'll tell you where to find the Sea-Sirens if you find the password that will free me from here.” Password: “The man senselessly muttering about blackrock, followers..followers of, and traitors. He'll have it.” img src="http://uo.stratics.com/newspics/catskills/Clainin LUXSAMOSUD.jpg" width="250" height="200" border="2"> It could not be anyone but Clainin, Senior Mage of Britannia, who mumbled those very words in his delirium. Some people quickly recalled to the New Haven Healers where Clainin has been since Old Haven was lost to a blackrock induced spell. People gathered around Clainin and pleaded to him to tell them the password, only to find him unconscious and unable to answer them. Till the quick eye of Luster noticed a red scroll that was under him. Pulling the scroll out from under Clainin the gathered group read what was written on it.. The word “LUXSAMOSUD”. That must be the password exclaimed the group as many of them recalled out to return to Covetous. The ones who went to New Haven quickly rejoined the main group in Covetous and told the Ophidian the word. Upon hearing the word Orisish the Ophidian said, “Aah. Very good. Lastly I need the word of power that activates the moongate.” Many asked, “activates?” wondering where they could find this password? The Ophidian coiled its tail under it and you could swear it was laughing as it said. “You should find the word where the Inquisitor finds his resolution. Choose the correct box. AHAHA!” That was a easy one to figure out for most everyone there it could only mean the Inquisitor’s Resolution magic gauntlets. They can only be found in the feared dungeon Doom in the Lamp Post room. Only problem with that is to teleport a single person to that room you need to do the lever puzzle. (It takes five people to do the puzzle. Four standing on pressure pads around one in the center. Each of the four around the one in the center must throw a lever in a specific order or else boulders will fall on all their heads. If the order is done right the person in the middle is teleported to the lamp post room.) Though this sounds simple there were too many pulling levers in their eagerness to help Kasaven. So all looked lost till Lord Owian Surrey showed up to help recover the next clue. He calmed the people down and helped recover the box with the last password in it, and that turned out to be “Faustulus”. When Orisish heard the word he sounded pleased and shared the last bit of information the rescuing army needed. “The moongate is open! You can find the Sirens at 111o 31'S, 117o O'E.( Serpent's Pillar West of New Haven)”. At this point deeds to ships started appearing on the ground of the dungeon for those who did not have one, and many grabbed them, as others quickly recalled to New Haven to place their ships in the water. Quickly sailing to the coordinates provided the flotilla of ships encountered the Sea Sirens and engaged them in combat. The battle was fierce and long as the rescuers endeavored to win the battle with these powerful creatures to save poor Kasaven. Though there were a handful or less of them they were put up a strong fight till the sheer numbers of heroes overwhelmed them. Kasaven was then spotted on top of one of the pillars and came out of some kind of trance to greet those who were willing to risk their lives to save him. He jumped off the pillar and visited many of the ships before requesting that everyone meet him back at Lord British’s throne room. Where some of the lucky saviors might be rewarded for their efforts. There he thanked all involved in saving him and handed out a few simple rewards from the Sea Sirens that had held him prisoner . Some got the skulls from the sirens and others got a sash made from the sirens scales. Kasaven thanked the crowd many times over but then excused himself stating that he was still very weak from his ordeal. Let us all wish him a speedy recovery for I am sure we will have many more thrilling adventures when he recovers. | ||

Valentine's On Napa | ||
Posted on Saturday, February 14, 2009, 6:57 PM EST by AilishD (NapaValley) | ||
Friday night brought EM Kaen and EM Sezja to the Counselor's Guild in Britain for a little Valentine's fun with the people of Napa Valley. After much chatting and joking, and Sezja letting us all know how she loves us, she began to explain her sad Valentine's Day plight. It seems she had comissioned the poet Jeffery of Yew to write a poem for her, but he had yet to deliver. She beseeched us to please go inquire for her as to what the delay was. Off we all went to Empathy Abbey to find Jeffery. Upon arrival, we learned that he had lost his inspiration - namely his wife. It seems she had gone to tend to her ill father southwest of the city, and missing her dearly, Jeffery was unable to complete his poem! He asked us to please find what was taking so long, and when she would return. Upon finding Jeffery's wife with her ailing father, she beseeched us to find Gregor the Healer east of Yew and request his help. Gregor was a crabby fellow, feeling that this illness was below him, but he did say to let her know that fluids and rest were all that was necessary to heal her father. Back to Jeffery's inspiration to give her this good news! She understood and was glad of the news, however felt she was still needed to pull her father past this critical time in his illness and asked that we let Jeffery know. Jeffery was understanding, and, with our assistance, nearly completed the poem for Sezja. However, he felt it necessary to send his wife some flowers from the maid Eillish of Zento, as was his tradition. As he finished off the poem, we were to perform the small favor of finding Eillish and delivering his message. Off to Zento we went, feeling a bit downtrodden about not being able to deliver Sezja's poem just yet. Here we found that Eillish had become enthralled with a certain kind of flower, the Deepbloom, that grows only in the dungeons of Trammel and was curious to know their color. After a bit of searching, the Lilac Deepbloom was located in the dungeon Despise. We rushed back to Eillish to tell her of the discovery. Finally, Jeffery let us know that he would deliver Sezja's poem in the mail shortly. After much running and backtracking and searching, we finally returned to Sezja to give her news of her poem! In gratitude, she passed out a few tokens of appreciation to those who were first to bring the news. A few Cupid's Bows and several plates of Heart Cookies were passed out. Congrats to the winners: Tarquin Lavender Stephen The Wanderer NADA Kastro Spirit Heart Napa Man Dude Shania Raelynne Debbie Sundiata Keita Sly Quickfingers Thank you EM Sezja and EM Kaen for an entertaining evening! ~Ailish | ||

Whispers, Ale and Old Friends (EM Bio) | ||
Posted on Friday, February 13, 2009, 7:01 PM EST by AirmidCecht (LakeSuperior) | ||
(from the desk of your EM on LS: A Bio) The night was the time Marcus liked best, cool, calm and usually quiet, he identified with it, the loud bustle from the mines from near by Mt. Kendal annoyed him. Marcus always used that as his excuse to avoid going about during the day, he never really fit in no matter how much Mr. and Mrs. Murphy wanted their son to. Having always been a quiet boy who seemed to have an unnatural ability to blend into the background of any scenery he wasn't the towns most prized citizen at any length, and conducting his business at night just seemed proper. As much as he liked the night though the people he ran into often bothered him, thieves, harlots, drunkards, these were the sorts he was left consorting with much to his disdain. Years later though he'd find these contacts and skills he used for dealing with such ilk useful as he fulfilled his duties as a scout for the Royal Guard. It was always good to have contacts among the dregs of society, they heard things no one else did, and knew where to find things other people didn't. Not that many were trust worthy, most weren't but those he really knew he felt some sense of camaraderie with. After all weren't they almost the same as him, except for the path they had decided to stride upon in life? Tonight though was different, Marcus was looking for someone, there was a new King and he had to fulfill his duties and help ensure his safety. As much as he trusted the guards he worked with, he wanted his own spies in place looking for signs of trouble. Being reassigned as a spy and scout for the Kings personal guard unit was a great honor! It would be best to see that there was nothing foul afoot, and what better place to find out information than from the people who had little else. A few mugs of ale usually started the stories and rumors flowing. Several interesting rumors had already passed his way, some he could dismiss without a second thought. "Aye lad, I hear tha' the new King really be a Daemon in disguise and he plans....." or, " I don'ta know abou' you but I heard that his Lordship King Casca was one of those hooded fellows that helped blow Haven to pieces....." Stories like that always cropped up around the nobility, he'd heard similar about some country Lord who was in disfavor among his serfs from time to time. Still he needed someone he knew he could trust keeping an ear and eye out for whispers of trouble, so far none of these would satisfy. "Excuse me Captain, mind if I ask a favor of you Sir.", it was the Barkeep probably asking him to settle some dispute over a tab, but years of experience had taught him to use subtlety. "What can I do for you, if I can help I will. I'm sworn to keep the peace after all." "Well you see there's this old salt done drunk himself into a stupor , we put him down stairs in the cellar so he wouldn't disturb the patrons see and well, I'm not the type to put a man out of his wits out on the street." the barkeep stated " If he was to get his throat cut I'd feel awful. Do you by chance know somewhere more fitting for him to sleep off the spirits?" "Let me take a look at him and then I'll decide if he should spend the night in a jail cell or if the local inn is good enough." Marcus stated dryly, the night was getting on and the bar starting to clear out he'd find no one this night with any useful information. The Barkeep lead him down a flight of rickety stairs and lit up a lantern hanging from a rusty bracket on the wall. Turning to allow the Captain to pass he was surprised by the amused smile that lit up his face. "I'll take care of him, don't worry about that just do me a favor in kind and bring me a bottle of ale to wake this old goat up with. He won't respond to water, but I've a feeling that he will to that!" Marcus filled the cup he still carried and splashed his friend in the face with it getting amusement from the way he started shouting orders to invisible sailors.....after the third cup full he woke, and after rubbing the ale from his eyes exclaimed. "Har! Mr. Murphy! What brings you to........err, here." "I stopped by The Salty Dog, here, for a drink, The good barkeep was complaining about a dastardly stench coming up from the cellar. Naturally, I thought of you." "The Salty Dog," Jonas mumbled "'I'm in Britain?" The barkeep let out a derisive snort, shaking his head, "Just get this bum out of here for me, will you?" "I thought you'd be more appreciative than if I had used cold water." Marcus commented with a suppressed laugh, handing over the remainder of the bottle. "So what it be you want me to do for you, Mr. Murphy?" "Why is it you think I want something of you?" Jonas reached out and fingered the tooled emblem on the leather Marcus' armor with a sarcastic grin. "Information." "Eh?" "First, there are rumors of piracy off the coast of Minoc. I need to know everything about it." . "What be makin' you think I'd know anythin' about piracy?" , Jonas inquired. "Come now, I'm not so old as to have forgotten the tales you told me when I was a child." "The second?" "There is something queer about, with this Royal Decree. Do what you do best, talk. Keep those ears open, I've heard a few strange rumors both about the King and about groups that don't seem to be happy he's been crowned." Marcus explained. "This whole city seems to be of two minds, "Those that are glad to see Casca ascended the throne, and those that wish to see him deposed." "Well lad where do you stand on the matter?" Jonas inquired. "Jonas you know quite well that my duty is to the Royal Council, and now that they have appointed a new King my duty is to him. That's why I'm concerned, I know little about Casca the Elf as an individual, but I do know he's my King and my duty is to protect him and this Kingdom." "All right lad I'll do what I can, and by the by do you think you can get me another bottle of Ale before we part?" Jonas agreed laughing.... | ||

Whiskey makes strange Bed Fellows (EM Bio) | ||
Posted on Friday, February 13, 2009, 6:58 PM EST by AirmidCecht (LakeSuperior) | ||
(from the desk of your EM on LS: A Bio) The weather was getting rough, “Batten that hold! Secure the ale!” Jonas Grumby was shouting now, to be heard over the howling winds. He was back on his old ship, the Sea Hag. He wasn’t quite sure how, he thought he remembered her being destroyed during the long siege of Magincia. Jonas used her to sneak valuables, and occasionally people if they paid well, out of the town. A nice wealth was accumulated, but all was lost when the ship went down. The old mariner hadn’t much time to contemplate this, however. These waves and winds were threatening to take him and his men down. “Furl that sail! Bare pole, gents!” He yelled to one of his comrades, staring at the man bewilderingly for a moment He couldn’t make out his men’s faces, they seemed to have a constant haze about them. They were windward of the shore, now, a preferable position to be in. The fetch would be reduced, the waves should be smaller. Nevertheless, he wasn’t quite sure what shore it was. One of the unrecognizable faces was yelling at him now, “Skipper! She’s broaching!” Jonas was angry now, “Drop the drogue or your doom be at hand, ye lice-infested lubber!” His men would normally act, not point out the obvious. “Tiller! Breaking wave!” The man at the tiller skillfully managed Sea Hag, no longer with a sail on it’s mast, directly into the wave. A man of experience with large breakers, he angled her down perfectly to avoid crashing headlong into the next one. “Is that all ye got, storm!?” Jonas was jamming his fist into the air now and laughing, “Har, har, har! Ya wont be taking me beauty down!” A wave crashed over the bow, spraying Jonas Grumby in the face. It had a peculiar scent and taste to it. He stopped his maniacal laughter, and stood aloof. Another wave splashed, again striking him in the face. Now he was sure he had lost his mind. Jonas knew that glorious scent well. Ale. His eyes opened, and he was laying on his back in a dark and musky room. “Hit him again,” a strange voice said. A third splash of the dark drink bounced off his brow. Jonas quickly jumped to his feet, alarmed, “Grog-snarfing sea dog!” He formed his hands into fists, wobbling a bit, trying to get a clear picture of the men in front of him. “Easy, Grumby,” a man with a bottle in his hand grinned. He was wearing a sort of green, light armor, no doubt the better for blending into a forested background. “Har! Mr. Murphy! What brings you to-” Jonas cut himself off as he wasn’t quite aware of where he was, “err, here.” Marcus Murphy, scout for the Royal Guard, smiled, “I stopped by The Salty Dog, here, for a drink,” Marcus held up the nearly empty bottle and motioned to the man next to him, “The good barkeep was complaining about a dastardly stench coming up from the cellar. Naturally, I thought of you.” “The Salty Dog,” Jonas Grumby seemed to think upon this for a moment, “I am in Britain?” The barkeep let out a derisive snort, shaking his head, “Just get this bum out of here for me, will you?” At that he turned, and went back up the steps to tend his business. Jonas glared at the barkeeps back, before focusing his attention on the bottle in Marcus’ hand. Marcus knew what Jonas was thinking, “I thought you’d be more appreciative than if I had used cold water.” Jonas said nothing, instead walking over to Marcus to relieve him of his bottle, swigging what was left of the ale. Wiping his mouth and letting out an exasperated breath, Jonas looked Marcus in the eye, “So what it be you want me to do for you, Mr. Murphy?” “Why is it you think I want something of you?” Marcus chuckled. Jonas reached out a finger, curiously stroking the scouting armor Marcus donned, but said nothing. Marcus sighed, “Information.” “Eh?” Jonas was still feigning disinterest. Marcus held up a pair of gloved fingers, “First, there are rumors of piracy off the coast of Minoc. I need to know everything about it.” Marcus again let show a toothy grin. “What be makin’ you think I’d know anythin’ about piracy?” Jonas practically spat the word, tossing the empty ale bottle to the side. Marcus only laughed, “Come now.” “The second?” His laughter ceasing, Marcus’ face took on a grim feature, “There is something queer about, with this Royal Decree. Do what you do best, talk. Keep those ears open. We need to know the murmurings of the people.” | ||

(EM related) Curious about the new traveler taking pause along the river in West Britain, I asked him his name. "Michel Nontink," was the reply and he went on to tell of a very interesting chain of events. Whether it be a warning or a request for help will be up to each individual and their quest for adventure. My interest is peaked. I shall go in search of the mines he spoke of and we shall see...what we shall see. | ||

EM Bio: Lubku Gotugwak | ||
Posted on Friday, February 13, 2009, 3:13 AM EST by Stupid Miner (Sonoma) | ||
(From the desk of your EM on Sonoma: A Bio) The Story of Lubku Gotugwak I first met Lubku at a meeting in the counselors hall. She had been asked to tell her life story and I was eager to hear. The elderly woman had overcome hardships and discrimination and now spent her time helping others become their dreams. Lubku heard her name called and slowly proceeded to the podium. She was still surprised to have been asked to tell her story in front of a large gathering in the guild hall. She was old and moved slowly yet with a musical lilt. Her hair was thinning so she had pulled it up high in a knot at the top of her head. Her clothes were old and well worn but clean. In one arm she carried a helmet that looked suspiciously like a pot. In the other she had a big grubby sac that looked stuffed with all sorts of scavenged treasure. When she turned to the audience she smiled revealing small pointy teeth. They were not a pure white, more an ecru shade, but not rotting either.She spoke in a low harsh voice. " 'Lo" it was a whisper. Then ""LLOO humies" * she had a dimple in her right cheek* The auditorium was full of people clapping for her. " Me called Lubku Gotugwak bub it okay yoo call me Lubku or iffin yoo weally like me Lubby. Lubby make me feel lubbed. Me like be lubbed. Now me tell humies story ob Lubku. Me born near humie town call it Cove. Live wibf orc . Me Ma wub orcie bub nub me da. He nub orc. He humie like yoos. Me nub know Da. Ma say he name "Gudfer Nubking" Me tink it silly name, Nubking. Me now me Da Nub a king." Harharhar. She broke into laughter until a tear ran down her face. "Yub, Where were me? " she looked as though she was pondeering then nodded, "Yub,I remember, me nub know Da, bub Me know Shardie Clan. Dems nub nice. Dems say me schtink like humie." she put her and on her hips and proclaimed, " Nub me fault me Da humie. Nub, nub, bub Orcies treat Lubku bad." She looked up at the roof ,then right into the middle of the gathering. "Come to tink ob it, dems bad to all orcie girlies. Dem nub let leave fort. Girlies nub fish, nub hunt, nub learn pokie pokie wib big schtick or axe.Yoo ever see orcie girlie in raiding party? Nub! Orcie girlie do dishes. Orcie girlie make bed. Yoo humies like moosak? Clap yoo like!" She grins her pointy grin and continues. "yub, Where me at. hmm.. Yub yub. Me know. Me da he like moosak too. He gib me ma nice shiny toy. It make moosak. Me still hab. Me show yoo." Lubka methodically opened her sac and rifled around in it. "hmm where me put, where me put. Aha, me find" She gave off an aura of satisfaction and pulled out a very old lap harp. It was battered and missing a string but she stroked it as though it had been made by the finest elven artisan. Perhaps it was. It looked like yew wood and as though it had runes engraved around the outside. She looked at it and sighed. "Me need new string." Then she plucked one of the remaining strings, then another. The sound was melancholy, a minor key. The melody seeped into my soul. All anger washed from me and I was filled with the deepest sadness I had ever felt. Each note pulled a painful heartbeat from my chest. I thought I could see notes rising above the harp as she played. I looked around and saw despair on the faces of all the other attendees. " Me wrote dat when me ma died." " Okay, me get back to story. Shardies nub like Lubby. One day Orcie Lord name Nubgud come to me an' say, 'Me Nub Like Moosak. Me gib yoo, Lubku, big boot. Yoo leave' Me feel bad. Me nub want leave me ma. *sigh* Me wait bub Lord Nubgud nub come wibf boot. Me stubborn. Me nub leave now wibfout boot. Dens Nubgud come say 'Why Lubku schtill here. Me tell yoo go!' Hims promise me hes boots.*grins with a twinkle in her eye* Me still have boot me show yoo." Again she rummages around in her over sized sac. *laughing* "Yub I find." She sniffs the boot. " Still smell like Nubgud. Yoo want to smell?*angles the boot toward the crowd* It schmell like wet dog!* gaves a contemplative look* Wet dog smell nicer den Nubgud. Wet dog smell like good friend who keep me warm when raining and I sleep alone outside. Wet dog wag tail and lick face. Wet dog get eaten by troll" *another tear ran down her face and she plucked her harp once more.* | ||

The tale of Owain Surrey | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 4:51 PM EST by Sahra Swift (Catskills) | ||
Greetings Catskills, I have come into possession a tale of Owain Surrey, with a request that it be passed along to all of you. Owain came into being roughly around the same time as Lord British, and thus has been in the land of Britannia for around 57 years. However, unlike Lord British, Owain was behind the scenes for the majority of his tenure. He hailed from a distant land, but came to Britannia to serve with Lord British. He was on British's council in every one of his tenures as king, but was never revealed to the people, for he had a secret service that he performed. Not only was he on the council to advise Lord British, but he was an his Royal Augur, a soothsayer. | ||

EM Bio: Birgit Rhys | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 4:43 PM EST by Stupid Miner (LegendsAOL) | ||
(From the desk of your EM on Legends: A Bio) Birgit Rhys – Healer With a strangled cry, Birgit came fully awake and upright. Her stomach was churning and her skin was covered with a cold, clammy sweat. With shaking hands, she fumbled for the flint box and candle on the small, wooden table beside her cot. As the meager flame fought back the immediate shadows, Birgit pushed her hands through her damp, tangled hair. It was the dream again. The horrible dream of the last day she spent in her beloved Papua. Birgit knew from experience that there would be no more sleep this night. The images were still too vivid and the light would be streaking the skies before they faded to the back of her mind where she usually kept them locked. It had been months since the last dream had driven her from bed in the middle of the night and she’d hoped that meant she’d finally come to grips with the horrific scene. Now, she wondered if she ever would. Throwing off the covers, Birgit made her way to the small wash stand and bathed away the physical traces of the dream. She tidied her long brown hair and slipped on her day dress and apron. She studied herself in the mirror and decided that, other than the dark shadows under her eyes, she looked reasonably presentable. Reaching into the bottom of the small wardrobe, Birgit drew out a parcel. It was covered in layers of cloth and tied carefully with a leather string. Going to the small table and chair by the window, she lit another candle and reverently opened the parcel. Carefully, Birgit removed a worn diary and a small, heart shaped locket. Opening the locket, she gazed on the faces of her beloved parents and let her mind drift back in time. Birgit Rhys came into the world on a bright sunny day in the cozy back room of the Healer’s Hut in Papua. Her father, Ephraim, was a great mage, and her mother, Elspeth, was a renowned healer. Both had lived and worked in the shining capital of Britain for many years. They had been in service to the King and the Council and lived a grand life at the great Court. Even with all the fame and adventures, their lives were missing something. The thing they wanted most was a child and, when Elspeth conceived Birgit, they decided to retire from the bustling city to a quieter climate where they could enjoy the child that was to come. As Ephraim and Elspeth still wished to be able to help others, they made the decision the make their home in the village of Papua. Travelers came through from time to time to explore the swamps and ruins around the village and the townsfolk lived a simple life. Ephraim had time to devote to his great love of reading while Elspeth soon became known as the one to turn to when a baby was colicky or a small child took a tumble and broke some bone as small children are wont to do. As their only child, Birgit’s earliest memories were filled with love and laughter. Her mother would sit for hours and brush her hair, cuddle her close and teach her songs and words of healing. As both of her parents had strong magicks running through their blood, they knew that Birgit would inherit their abilities and wanted her to learn from an early age how to use her abilities with the utmost caution. They never made it seem as though she was studying, however. Each lesson was more of a game and always entwined with love and fun. As Birgit grew, so did her powers. At the age of ten, she was already helping her mother with her sick calls around the village. Birgit was trusted by all the town’s people as much as her parents and was welcomed into their homes as a member of the family. Her sunny smile and easy disposition put the most fretful child at ease. A baby, who would not quiet with anyone else, would immediately calm and begin cooing the minute Birgit picked them up. A raging fever would break at just the touch of Birgit’s cool hand and a few chanted words. The most horrible, gaping wound would heal with barely a scar once Birgit had bandaged it and spoken a few words. Life went along at an easy, peaceful pace until the summer of Birgit’s sixteenth year. Word began to reach the small outpost of unrest and fighting amongst the Ophidians, a strange, magical race that lived outside the borders to the north. The Ophidians had always kept an unspoken truce with the cities of Sosaria and had kept to their own borders for generations. Suddenly, for a reason that escaped many, the Ophidians began attacking any who ventured near their borders. Since Birgit’s life had always been filled with happiness and peace, she did not pay much attention to the tales brought into the village by wandering travelers. Her parents, however, worried and wondered if perhaps they should get their beloved child away to a safer place. Sometimes, though, life has a way of taking the decision from anyone’s hand. It happened on a bright, sunfilled day two days before Birgit’s seventeenth birthday…. Birgit had gone deep into the forests to the south of Papua to gather some herbs and roots that were needed for her mother’s potions. She had no fear of the forests or swamps as she had grown up playing and exploring in them for all of her life. As she reached down to dig up some mandrake root, the ground suddenly trembled violently pitching Birgit forward onto the ground with a force that knocked the breath from her. Her heart pounding, Birgit picked herself up and looked around. An ominous black smoke was rising over the trees from the direction of Papua. Barely able to breath, and scared for some reason she did not understand, Birgit began to run towards her village and her home. As she drew closer, Birgit began to hear the terrified screams of the inhabitants along with hissing that sounded as though a thousand snakes had invaded. Stumbling into the village proper, Birgit could not comprehend what her eyes clearly showed her. The Ophidians! Ophidians were in the village slaughtering men, women and children with no thought. Blood ran everywhere, smoke rose from almost every building, energy crackled through the air as the magicians, her father included, tried to hold off the invaders. Birgit could see that the magicians and the villagers were being overwhelmed by the sheer number of Ophidians. With horror, Birgit saw her mother run through with a halberd wielded by an enormous Ophidian Warrior. As she screamed, her father saw her and bellowed, “Run Birgit! RUN!” Birgit had no memory of what happened next except in the nightmares in the middle of the night, which her conscious mind refused to look at too closely. When she next knew herself, it was dark and Birgit was huddled, trembling behind the stone ruins deep in the forest. Her clothes and hands were covered with blood and dirt and soot. Her mind vaguely recognized the landscape although she could not immediately place it. Something inside her, however, told her she could not stay where she was. She had to move! She had to warn others! What she had to warn them of and why she had to run, she could not remember. But Birgit knew in her soul, she had to get moving. Birgit began making her way through the dense forest with no real understanding of the direction she was going. She stumbled many times but got up and kept moving. Near day break, Birgit stumbled once again and felt she could not go on. Just as she was ready to give in and submit her soul to whatever came next, she felt a gentle hand on her shoulder. Looking up, she saw the face of an old woman peering at her. “Poor thing,” the woman said in a whisper. “Come now. You are safe. Let’s get you warm and fed.” Coming back to the present, Birgit realized that day was almost breaking yet again. It was time to move on again. She had stayed too long. She knew now that she must reach Britain and give a warning. Or, if they already knew of the horrors of Papua, she must help however she could. Birgit quietly wrapped the diary and locket back in its cloth and began to make her preparations for the journey ahead. She only hoped she wasn’t too late. | ||

EM Bio: Lord Candrin Devar | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 2:31 PM EST by Stupid Miner (LegendsAOL) | ||
(From the desk of your EM on Legends: A Bio) Lord Candrin Devar: He stood triumphant at the gates of Luna. Today was a day he had waited many long years for. Candrin Devar, a paladin in training, had spent many years training his skills in order to become part of the elite paladins of Luna. As a child, living in Trinsic, he had always wanted to be a paladin. At 16 he has begun to train as a Paladin in Trinsic. Several years passed and the land of Malas had been discovered. In one of the newly found cities, Luna, there were paladins able to use powers never before heard of by the original Britannian paladins. Candrin eventually moved to Luna at the age of 18 to begin training in these holy powers the paladins here wielded. While he was an exceptional fighter and skilled in using the holy abilities of a paladin, Candrin was also told by his trainers that he also had an overzealous streak in regards to his principles and the virtues. His overzealousness could make him dangerous if he ever let it get out of control. Now at the age of 23, the time had come, the time to finally receive his long awaited title. He was called into the shrine room above the bank. "Candrin, we're all proud of you" said the lead trainer. "You have proven yourself skilled and principles enough to be a full fledged paladin." *he motioned to the white ankh in the room. "Kneel before the ankh" Candrin walked toward the ankh and kneeled. "You have proven your ability to uphold and defend the virtues, but you also seem to be a bit overzealous in how you defend them. Be careful not to become a danger to yourself and those around you." The old trainer walked up to the ankh. "I now bestow upon you the powers of the light, rise up, Lord Candrin, and be known as a Paladin of Virtue." Candrin stood, grinning to himself. "Finally, after all these years..." "Before you go, I would like to give you this." The trainer brought out a box from behind the altar. "These are holy armaments and should serve you well wherever you may go." Candrin opened the box and saw that inside were white weapons and armor, blessed by the light of the virtues. "Thank you, sir, I will treasure these." He closed the box. "Where will you go now that you're no longer in training?" Asked the old man. "Well, that I don't know, maybe I'll just travel the lands till I find something to do." | ||

EM Bio: Omo Trovic | ||

(From the desk of your EM on Pacific: A Bio) Omo Trovic the Wandering Chronicler: Sometime in the ancient past: A youthful hand reaching out and pushing aside a dense brush, revealing a horrific sight of a house burning and human bodies strewn around. A Juka mage shouting something at a group of Juka warriors. Unable to bear the pain from his wounds, the youth passes out. Struggling to fully awaken, but still unfocused, he sees a blurred image of a concerned Meer Eternal looking down. A voice somewhere behind saying, "Are you sure? A human? The long sleep with the Meers?" The Meer Eternal turns his head and nods sadly, saying, "This one will play an important role of things to come." Unable to stay awake, he passes out. The present: "A story, you say?" inquired a man sitting back in a corner of the tavern. The tavern patrons look over at him and he appears to be wearing clothes that look weather-beaten and well-worn and one of the patrons mutters just loud enough for the man to hear, "Strangers everywhere these days..." "Oh no, I am not a stranger, I am Omo Trovi, I'm a wandering chronicler. I go where the stories are. A historian, if you will. It's my pleasure to meet you," says Omo. Another patron turns around and looks at Omo for a while and grudgingly nods at him and says, "Aye. A story a passing gypsy caravan spread around a few days ago. Many of the cities in Britannia is under siege. Some are holding, some are winning, some has been overrun." Omo's expressions changes and for a moment there, he looks infinitely sad but the moment quickly passes and he beams a huge grin and says, "Well then! I know where I am going next. I've wandered in Ilshenar long enough." Omo Trovi as interviewed: Greetings and well met! In case you are wondering who I am and where I come from... I am Omo Trovi the Wandering Chronicler. I hail from all over the place. I call no place home but yet the road is my faithful companion. I travel from place to place and listen to folks much like you and chronicle their tales for the future. If you have a story, feel free to share, for I love a good story! | ||

Vivien the Healer | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 2:07 PM EST by AilishD (NapaValley) | ||
It smelt like a slaughterhouse in the hut. The flies murmured above the moans of the wounded while the clouds pressed low outside, swollen with summer rains. Sweat ran down the healer's face as he paced back and forth, sweltering in his woollen robes, his feet reddened by the blood that painted the interwoven reed floors. Below the hut he could hear the clash and scrape of steel weapons, the slither of muscular scaled bodies and the hissing rasp of the ophidians calling to each other. The sound of carnage drowned out even the cicadas from the nearby jungle, but nothing could obscure the drone of feasting flies. He stayed until sundown, working until his hands were raw and his robes sodden, pained cries echoing in his ears. When the onslaught began to slow toward evening, the hut was carpeted with moaning bodies, twisting in agony as the jungle sun – fierce even at twilight – baked down upon the roof and the flies crawled in their blood-crusted nostrils. Looking at them, he knew that his work had only been postponing the inevitable. These were the worst wounded, the ones that couldn't be moved; as soon as the ophidians came, winding their sinuous bodies up the house stilts and through the window, these beings would be flesh for the feast. Better just to kill them now, he thought, but he knew that would not do. Humans did not kill for mercy. Juka and gargoyles practiced mercy-killing, and the great winged warriors of the marble island would put a lethal blade through the throat of a fallen comrade to spare them a slow earthbound death – he had seen them, had been taught how to do it - but humans were not like that; they were sentimental, and cruel in their sentimentality. Cruel and foolish. Sometimes he wondered if he had spent too much time in the company of other races to even be considered human anymore. Recognising that there was nothing more than he could do, he quietly left the hut. Humans and ophidians alike discounted him as he made his way across the town, a single dark-robed figure surrounded by clouds of flying dust and whirling blades, moving unhurriedly with his eyes turned toward the overcast sky, moving carefully through the thickly piled mangled corpses. He headed toward the darkening jungle with one hand on his quarterstaff and the other reaching inside his robes, feeling for his spare bandages. A young ophidian lay twisted and curled at the bottom of a ditch near the vine-thick trees. It was a lithe young male, fine-looking even though its autumn-gold scales were dented and encrusted with drying blood. At a glance, he realised that there was nothing that he could do for it; its spine had been broken, its body cleft almost in two, and although it lived still, as cut snakes do, it would not live for long. Without hesitation he walked up to it, knelt beside it and said in the ophidian language, his tongue stumbling on the sibilant syllables, "Let me help you." Its reptilian eyes, as bright as a Trinsic sunset, fixed him flatly and it flicked its bloodied tongue out, tasting his scent on the humid air. He watched it sadly. "What do you want?" it asked finally. "I want…" Pulling away, the healer regarded the chaos that was Papua. Smoke rose over the thatched roofs, staining the sky like a spreading bruise above the massed corpses, and the fading sun shone off splintered bone and shattered weapons; another man fell, young enough to be his son, his dying cry bubbling bloodily on his lips. "…I want this to never happen again," he finished, looking back at the crippled ophidian. It watched him inscrutably, one limp useless hand resting on the shaft of its bardiche. "All this fighting… I want it to stop, I want it to end." Pausing, he added, "But in the meantime, I want to help you." Its tongue flicked again. "You stole our…" "That's not important now," he interrupted. It fell silent. Reaching over, he lightly touched its torn flesh, feeling the broken edges of scales hard and sharp under his fingers; it didn't even flinch. "You can't feel that, can you… your spine is cut. There's nothing I can do. You'll be dead before morning, providing that nothing kills you first…" As he drew back he could feel its vivid slit-pupilled eyes on him. Its breath was raspy with pain. He wished that he could help it, but all that he could offer was an easy death; he would give it that at least. Sosaria was home to many races, and all of them deserved the gift of mercy. Even if nobody else observed that, Vivien would. "I can make it quick," he said. "I'm afraid that's all I can do." Ichor gurgled in its throat as it hissed a laugh. "Blunt, human. I like it." Its severed tail wriggled mindlessly in the ditch like a golden overgrown worm. "I… well, go, then. With my thanks." It coughed, a curious sound coming from a serpent; runny black ophidian blood drooled from its jaws. Nodding, he stood and hefted his quarterstaff. One stroke – that was all it would take. The Juka had taught him how, in his time spent among them. "Don't move. This won't hurt." "Pain! Hah!" A moment before he struck, it twisted to look up at him. Its eyes gleamed with reptilian intellect as it whispered, "Why… why are you helping me?" Vivien paused. He tightened his grip on the quarterstaff, mentally analysing the weak spots of the ophidian's skull, determining where to strike. "I help everybody," he said gently. "But… we are at war… you are human…" "Barely." He smiled. "And we're not so different. We'll all meet on the other side, every one of us – human, elf, ophidian, ogre and all." He raised his staff. "I hope to see you there. Fare well." The ophidian's jaws parted; a serpentine smile. "Thank… you…" He brought the staff down. | ||

EM Bio: Drake Foxx | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 2:02 PM EST by Stupid Miner (Sonoma) | ||
(From the desk of your EM on Sonoma: A Bio) Drake Foxx the Lt. Cmdr. of the Guard - Sonoma It had been two years since Drake Foxx had been sent to this post. Lt. Commander Foxx had been dispatched to guard the newly formed town of Haven against whatever vile and disgusting evil had descended to occupy the area that held the moniker former. In any case Lt. Commander Foxx was there to serve. There to protect. Drake Foxx swallowed deeply from the flask that lay within in his breastplate. Had his superior officer been present at the time his behavior would've most certainly been frowned upon. Considering he hadn't heard from central command in over six months and that he'd been left at this post without update for nearly two years, he thought nothing of it as he swallowed deeply the intoxicating liquid contained within. He gulped down the remaining contents of the flask with a biting satisfaction. Foxx's eyes fixated on the horizon. The world had begun to spin. By this point he was uncertain as to whether the changing horizon was the result of the liquor he'd been consuming for so long, or to the evil magics this place was subject to. He watched as the sun slowly descended upon the horizon. He felt the burden of his gilded plate mail gain on his weary legs. He slumped slowly against the wall behind him. His head tilted back and his eyelids felt heavy. He slowly drifted into the land of nod… "Father no!" Drake Foxx yelled as he watched his father lunge in front of the arrow. The arrow pierced the man's chest with silent slice. Blood immediately began to gush from the wound. Drake fell to his knees…he wept. Drake's mind spun deeper into reminiscence. "Front and center maggot! Ye think ye are guard material?!" The blow of his instructors fist into his gut was enough to bring Drake to his knees. He coughed hard. "Get up! Get on your feet!" I'll make a guard out of you yet! The liquor held its cruel embrace on Foxx's mind. The events of his past swirled still. Drake Foxx dug the heel of his boot deep into the ribs of his steed. With the sudden burst of speed he felt the wind blow hard on his face. Time was not on the side of the woman he transported. How could this have happened? Was his love not pure and complete? Surely the healers would be able to save her… Drake's closed eyes twitched slightly, his mouth slump a little in its place as his mind relived his most painful memory. She was so still, so beautiful. How did it end like this? Was evil destined to rule this realm? He watched as her body was set to lie in its final place. Tears dripped of his quivering cheek. The pain was too great. He turned away from the grave and walked off, halberd in hand, destined to seek an end to this madness… He felt his body shake. He could hear his armor clang. "GUARD! GUARD! That man stole from me! Pursue him at once! GUARD! GUARD" The shaking and yelling was enough to wake him from his liquor induced slumber. The sun had set by now. In the distance he could see a shadowy figure darting through the velvety darkness. He sprang to his feet and set off, halberd in hand. | ||

(From the desk of your EM on Sonoma: A Bio) Daniel Ravens I see the shadows. They follow me; they lead me; they are one with me. I do not remember the first time the shadow moved me, guided me. I have walked the darkness for aeons both in the past and in the future. Well gather around and I will tell you that which I still remember. My parents walked me to the park when I was young. I was not Ravens then though I have long since forgotten who I was. They thought the swings and climbing things would amuse me. Indeed they were right. By the time I was two years old I could climb higher and faster than any other child. That was never enough. I had to do it more quietly and unnoticed. Mum and Da thought it was a game. It was no game. They watched from the side of the trees or under the benches. My parents never saw them. My parents would "play" along; ask if they should make lunch for my "invisible" friends. I left them cookies. Everyone likes cookies. A few years would pass and School was to start. I loathed the idea of being with all the lovely small insignificant children. My Uniform was a blue shirt with a lace up collar and grey leather shorts. I left for my first day. The other children thought I was strange. A large boy pushed and shoved me. Soon all the kids were pointing and laughing. When they were done my shirt was no longer blue. It had mud and blood splattered all over it. I was never going back. I could already read, print and make change at the Chandler shop. I wanted more. I needed more. I walked to the corner, fixed my chin up and decided what I would tell my parents. That was when I saw my shadow. Oh, not the one cast by my body blocking the bright rays of the sun. Oh! No! The one I would soon call master teacher. It flickered at the side of my vision near the wall of the old brewery. He was following me, playing a game, or testing me. So I kept him just in my vision, never stepping to far ahead or too slowly. Always the same distance. When the chance arose I would double back and catch him. I had it all figured out. There was a bridge in the middle of the town over a small pond. I knew it had a loose rail that would hold my weight. I would slip over it and under the bridge. I had done it many times to fool my parents and other children when playing Hide and seek. I got under the bridge as quickly and stealthily as I could. I would jump out at the shadow and find out who or what he was! I crouched. My heart skipped a beat and I jumped with a start when it said "hello boy, bin waitin' for ye! What's this with yer chemise boy?" "Naught fer ye t'care." "Oh! Aye! D'n't say I be carin'" It studied me. I felt like it was crawling under my skin. If it asked again I knew I would blurt out my whole miserable morning. The scrutiny was unbearable. What did he know of me? "Ye need to go to school boy. Lots of learnin' t' be done." I told him I did not need school. I was smarter than the teacher anyway. "Oh! *nod* Aye. An' d' the teacher get hisself all bloody too?" I felt like crying but I would not give it the satisfaction. "Why did you let that happen?" I shouted! "He was bigger an' stronger and he had all the others on his side." "Oh! Aye! But aren't ye the smart one? The fast one? The clever one?" He turned and pulled at a stone in the wall. I had never noticed before that the hideaway was there. I will leave your assignments in here boy. Come get them every day then go to school an' learn. I think you shall be known as Ravens from now on. Learn I did. My first lesson was never to get beat again and I didn't. I learned that life was not always fair. Some people who looked kind were not and some who looked wretched merely suffered sever battle wounds. Wounds they got dedicating their life to the service of others. I learned to observe people, learned their weaknesses and strengths. I learned how to manipulate. I learned to judge people after I watched them, searched into their soul and to never believe my first impression. By the time I was finished my prep schooling I had learned to trust no one. "I am proud of ye boy." Stated my shadow, "Now you must decide what you are." Not who you are or what you will do for an occupation. What I was! "Follow me Raven and your life will be changed forever. Stay and be filled with ennui always." The choice was clear. I never saw my parents again. People look upon us as evil. We do what others won't. Yet they come to us. They need a favour but don't tell. They have a job they can't dirty their hands. They need an elixir for health, love or hate and harm. Yeah these good denizens live among you. They wear their fancy clothes and ride their high horses. They look so pretty when you meet them at the Luna bank. They are merchants, Paladins, Noblemen. We are the scum. Remember no good coffee was ever made that did not produce dregs. | ||

Introducing Maeda Himeko | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 1:18 PM EST by Lady Mana (NapaValley) | ||
---- "Commander Lucius Worthington-Montgomery," he introduced himself, "folks just call me Monty." "Maeda Himeko," she replied, taking his offered hand after a moments hesitation, "hajimemashite." The commander laughed heartily, "I haven't a clue what that means, but the feeling's probably mutual." Maeda bowed her head, a little confused by his response. "So, lieutenant," he continued, "who's wick did you get on, to be assigned here?" "Wick?" she asked, her growing confusion becoming evidence on her face. "I don't understand." "Well, you didn't get sent to this icy corner of hell, because you were anyone's favourite." He explained, "glorious as an assignment to the capital may be, chances are you'll just end up buried under her." "I have no intention of dying here," she said quietly, and completely seriously. The commander laughed again, "good job, too, else I'd have to find myself a new lieutenant." Maeda nodded slightly, to acknowledge, but not encourage his line of reasoning. "Whatever it was, I don't care," he waved his hand dismissively. "The war's dragging on, and I'll take all the help I can get, especially if it comes with as many recommendations as you do." "I look forward to serving under you," she said, with a deep bow. "That's the spirit, although less bowing," he laughed again. "Salute, if you must, but bowing makes me feel like there's a noble looking over my shoulder." He lowered his voice and checked behind him, "it's bad enough having an army at your doorstep, but when the nobles start poking their noses in... I'd rather be out there, with the dragons." "Dragons?" Maeda asked, furrowing her brow a little in surprise. "Of course, the mages brought you in, didn't they?" He sighed, "I'll show you." "Welcome, to Britain," he said, with a grand gesture over the wall. Maeda looked out at the city below. The streets were littered with bodies, with survivors examining them, in the hopes of finding wounded allies that could be saved, or enemies that could be dealt with. Movement in the eastern part of the city caught her eye. In the distance, she saw a huge red dragon, making its way between the buildings, seemingly looking for something. "That's why the mages brought you in," he explained, with a solemn nod. "Every time she shows, we lose a dozen men, at least. The dragons that come before her, we manage well enough. But her..." Maeda looked at him curiously, he wasn't laughing any more. "Are you sure I can't interest you in one?" he asked, offering a liberal glass of something potent. After showing her the dragon, he'd led her back to his office. "I don't drink," she answered, watching him carefully. "Yet," he mumbled, and raised his glass in a toast that seemed to lack conviction. "To the Royal Guards." She watched him drink deeply from the glass, in silence. The reasons were obvious to her, but she still had some difficulty accepting an officer that was so quick to turn to a bottle. "Your orders," he continued after draining the glass, "are to get your bearings. We don't need to be sending out search parties for you, because you took a wrong turn at the kitchen." He chuckled at her expression, "it's a big castle, everyone gets lost at least once. When you figure you can handle it, put this on." Reaching under his desk, he pulled out a small red bundle, and slid it across the polished surface towards her. As she picked it up to examine it, he smiled to her, "the Royal Guard need a captain, it might as well be you." ---- Attention Royal Guards and citizens, alike! I am most pleased to announce that fellow Lieutenant, Maeda Himeko, has been awarded the rank of Captain! It is with utmost sincerity that I congratulate her on her achievements, and know that we will all do our utmost to aid her in healing Britannia's current state of turmoil. May the virtues be with you all. Regards, Lady Mana Lieutenant of the Royal Britannian Guards | ||

(From the desk of your EM on Europa: A Bio) Timpe The Librarian Ahh-chooo! It's so dusty in here! Timpe ran his fingers over the covers of the books as he passed them. The presence of knowledge had always comforted him. This place though, it was so very different from the city of Heartwood where he had spent most of his life. Ah well, this isn't such a bad place. The ocean view is spectacular and the people are nice enough. I think I could get used to this. Besides, what more could a failed scholar hope for then keeping the Royal Library? Ow, that's right! I must not forget to send him my congratulations and thanks. One of the guards nodded at Timpe as he walked past. Timpe lit a candle and set it down on the table. My Noble Lord Casca, Congratulations on your appointment as King pro-tempore. I for one believe this is the dawn of a new age! As we were taught in school: Humans are not fit to rule! They lack the perspective… Also, I would like to again thank you for offering me the position at the Royal Library. Know I will return the favor when you call upon me! Kindest Regards, Your cousin, Timpe Timpe folded the parchment and sealed it. Slowly he stood up, blew out the candle and proceeded to walk again past the long rows of books. Ahh-chooo! It's so dusty in here! | ||

I am what I am. I am old. I have wandered the length and breadth of this land since I was in the cradle. I want nothing more than to sit on my stool and watch as the world passes, collecting and collating that which I find interesting. Even small things are interesting. What does that butterfly say as it flaps its wings? What does your horse think of the load on its back? Does this matter in the grand scheme of things? How do you know the answers if you have never considered the questions? Young people these days move so fast – always in a hurry. I am sure I was never in such a hurry. Yet I know I look back with aged eyes at a different time and space. Life was different then. We had a King and he knew what was for the best. Now we swim rudderless in an aching sea of turmoil. Adrift we are - afloat only by the grace of a gentle current. Perhaps things will change… Come sit with me and watch. Tell me your tale child, that I might add it to my book. | ||

[NEWS] Upon Further Investigation...An Introduction...Part II | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 9:10 AM EST by Andrasta (Atlantic) | ||
The sun rose on yet another day in Luna. Strange how the days were always the same.. temperature, length, humidity. This was nothing at all like growing up in Trinsic. They had seasons there, with a full compliment of pleasant and unpleasant weather. However, she was happier now than as a child, she reflected. This was the path she chose for herself. It was a nice safe comfortable, place to forget those who she knew and be at peace with her new life. Occasionally those ghosts of her past did return. Some days she still remained in her small cell and sobbed, uncontrollably terrified and inconsolable. Most days however, she was able to follow the strict routine of her Order and be at peace. A daily routine is a comforting thing. Every morning, she was up with the sun, as the two moons set on the horizon. After donning ones golden robe, one headed to the chapel where a daily reading was read to start the day in a reflective manner. Today’s had been Brice, one of the healer guild masters speaking, or should one say droning, about something to do with Truth… “Truth has, as its opposite Falsehood. As our virtues have three parts so too does Falsehood. Those who worship Falsehood, ascribe three Anti-Virtues to it, being Deceit, Shame and Wrong. I remember when I went to Wrong… “ she let it tail off into her semi-awake consciousness. The benches were still hard enough to keep her from dropping any further into unconsciousness, as they were every morning. Very comforting. Breakfast followed, of hard bread and cheese, with small ale, or if the coffers had been generous, precious coffee. No coffee it seemed today. She sighed. After breakfast she knew, would be the daily training with weapons in the courtyard, with the Paladins jeering on at the Priests with their maces and hammers in their light armor. She wondered if she could afford to skip it again. She knew the Abbot would be after her if she did. She had already missed three this week out of four and she was supposed to be trying to overcome her difficulties. Not so comforting, but necessary. An acolyte, his dull grey robe with scuffed and dirty hem from some chore of the morning ran in puffing and stopped, looking around the room. Since the house rule for the Priests (who dined separately from the muscle-bound Paladins) was for silence until after breakfast to contemplate the morning reading, there was a rustling as all eyes turned to him. She eyed him warily, while continuing her meagre portion of bread and cheese. Quaking slightly at the attention, he scanned the room. His eyes lit on her and inwardly she cringed. He walked up to her and passed her a small note. She gave him a long look and he hastily backed up, tripping on his robe in his hurry to leave her to her breakfast. She smiled quietly. Such small things, were rewarding. The note said simply: My office rather than your training. Out of routine! Not good at all. It was written in the hand of the Abbot. She sighed and no longer felt hungry. It had only been two days since her last “episode”. She knew her own limits and felt the familiar roiling inside at the thought of a new and different thing happening to her. Before it could get the better of her she stood and left the room with the note in her hand. Her feet strode confidently to his office, although she wondered where they got their confidence and wished the rest of her could feel it. On her arrival, she was surprised to find him seated with a Paladin dressed in armor and with a travel pack by the chair. There was a coffee cup in front of the empty chair steaming with freshly ground brew. He indicated she should take a seat. She did so and buried her face in the warm cup brewed exactly how she liked it. Briefly she wondered if the Abbot had that on file too and nearly giggled. “Cora. Good. I was just telling Georgio about you. This..” he indicated the Paladin seated next to her, “ is Georgio Schven. I have a mission for you and the Crusader has graciously allowed Georgio here to accompany you. We are sending materials with you to set up a church in the city of Britain. We have certain insights that such a place will be needed in the coming months, as well as making sure the people have not forgotten the Virtues that were so prevalent under the great Lord British. You will leave as soon as you can be packed. Georgio will meet you in half an hour in the courtyard.” At this the Paladin smiled gently, picked up his pack, saluted the Abbot and withdrew at the Abbot’s nod. “Cora, the insights I gained through reflection and meditation included a vision. This vision was of a young lady, undaunted and strong in the face of challenges beyond what she has faced. This person was unbroken and whole, full with the Grace of the Virtues and wisdom shining from her eyes. A pair of eyes I might add, that met mine with Valor and Humility. That person Cora, was you. Finish your coffee, then go and pack. Trust Georgio, Cora. He will help you.” With that the Abbot patted her kindly on the shoulder and went to see to the Acolytes. Slowly, she drank her coffee wishing that everything would just remain suspended there. She considered the Abbot’s vision with no real hope of it coming to pass. She knew she should go and pack her few belongings and see if her armor needed cleaning, but for the coffee. That was all there should ever be.. all she wanted there to be. Comforting routine. Where did you go? | ||

Vendui, those of this mortal coil not in possession of mine tongue. You wish to know of Barra Linath? Few have heard the Shadow’s Song and lived to tell of it. Why should you be different? I had the misfortune to be born of dark skinned parents in Heartwood, some time ago now. My people, the Ilythiiri, were exiled from that fair place.. it was decided that dark skinned were dark omen’d and not to be trusted. My immediate family made their way to Zento after many trials, meeting there a group of interesting people who cultivated to be what we elves are naturally – agile, lithe and able to blend easily into the shadows. The ninja of Zento took us in and trained us well. Upon graduation I was accorded the name I wear with pride – Barra Linath, the Shadow’s Song. So, if you hear a soft hummed tune in the shadows.. don’t bother to run. My prey do not escape. My song in the tongue of mortals. As day descends towards the night, These notes pervade the dying light, In time, whetstone schik’s along the Voice, So it goes on and on without a choice. As hood covers shining tresses white, As cloak doth hide Dark Voices from thine sight, So too these soft hummed notes draw to a close, As night begins and victim’s find repose. | ||

Tuerius, the Captain of the Royal Guard | ||
Posted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 2:48 AM EST by Medea (Drachenfels) | ||
Tuerius, Captain of the Royal Guard A long time before Tuerius had become a Captain he had joined the Royal Guard. He was a mentor and tutor to many recruits at the time. A lot of capable men successfully completed their training under his supervision. Even healers mastered their fighthing skills (unarmed of course) with help from him. At that time, Tuerius served under Captain Avery who was recently arrested for high treason. Tuerius himself learned his fighting skills from Amazons, Samurais, Monks, Paladins and many more. He started his warrior studies at the age of 15 and completed them when he was 20 years old. As a boy, he was often teased and even beaten up by other kids because of his poor family and his criminial father. His motivation therefore was simple: get the best training in his fighting skills and never have to face this cruelty again. As Ulrich died - because of the poisonous, deadly sting of a wyvern - a new Captain had to be chosen as soon as possible. At the same time the Royal Council was murdered and Casca as the only survivor could not imagine a better Captain than Tuerius, the best swordsman throughout the lands, battle-tested, muscular, superb leadership skills and at the age of 34 at the prime of his life. The promotion was taking place as usual at the throne room, but a messenger disrupted the ceremony delivering bad news: Trinsic had finally been occupied and there were no survivors. Tuerius immediately began to concentrate his troops and sent them into the war zone. He told the people that he was negotiating with Umbra and Luna but secretly everyone knew there was only little hope to fight under one banner against evil. Tuerius is no warrior which is afraid of the battlefield and he was often encountered at the embattled cities. Only for his imperturbable fighting were the soldiers still motivated to battle the Hordes of the Shadows, he still gives them hope to put an end to this war. Also, the virtues are his sanctuary, if he sees them put into the mud or be misinterpreted he shows no mercy. Once a year Tuerius is making a pilgrimage to pray at every one of the virtue shrines. He is a very honest man, always loyal to the crown, the council but especially loyal to the people. There are also rumors about a story where Tuerius decapitated one of his own soldiers because that fellow was molesting a woman in a dark alley. With him as military leader, this war will hopefully be history soon.

Greetings Lake Superior! | ||

As some of you know, but I’m sure more of you don't know, our prestigious Event Moderators (Quantum and Autolycus) seem to be holding their own meet and greets every week: check the shield in the counselor’s hall for day and time. Anyone is free to go, and it’s a great way to get any questions you have about various event-related issues answered. Take note: Event Moderators are not Developers or GMs. They know nothing more than we do about upcoming development changes and expansions, so keep the questions event-related. (Please take note that these discussions are conducted in an orderly fashion, and are concerned with only the most serious of subjects.) With that out of the way, I did manage to get a couple answers out of EM Quantum about the upcoming Valentine’s event (Sunday February 15th 8pm CST). This event seems to be Autolycus’ show to run, and unfortunately, Autolycus wasn’t with us because he had sustained a mild concussion while playing hockey (it was the common consensus of the males in the audience that he should “suck it up” and/or just “walk it off”). The useful information that I could gather seemed to indicate that the event wasn’t tied in with the “Warriors of Destiny” plot line, and was more or less just for fun. The event is “for Valentine’s stuff :P” -EM Quantum. If we don’t get news of the locations for the event from Autolycus before the 15th, Quantum has assured us that he’ll leave a shield in the Britain Counselor’s Guild with the location of the event on the 15th. So don’t miss the event, if nothing else, come for the exceeding likeliness of free loot. [Edit]: Since this article has been written, there is a change. Autolycus says there will be an Oracle in the Counselor's Hall two days before the event who will have some info. | ||

This very day the Catskills shard achieved a objective that once again shows just how great the shard is. We became the first shard to have both the Trammel zoo and the Felucca zoo completely filled at the same time. Today the Silver Steed can be seen in either Zoo for all to enjoy and admire. The new Silver Steed in Felucca, and the donation box showing tier 11 The Silver Steed in Trammel, and the Trammel donation box showing its tier 11 This goal was reached through the hard work of many tamers who are constantly turning in creatures, Patrons of the Royal Zoo who share of their wealth, and many charity events, that are used to both help maintain the two zoos but also to raise awareness of how special they are to the shard. (A huge gold donation from Lord Corvak Emmissary of the Saber and Rose[SnR] Guild was what put the Felluca Zoo over the top. So if you see him give him a thank you.) Once again through community and team work Catskills has shown what makes us such a special shard to be on. | ||

Catskills Welcomes EM Cernunnos | ||
Posted on Monday, February 9, 2009, 1:02 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Sunday evening EM Cernunnos made his first public appearance and a small group of players gathered to welcome to the Catskills shard. He started off by offering to let people call him “Cern” for short because his name is a bit long, and then answered questions from the crowd. In a surprise statement he declared that he was assigned here to be a permanent EM, whereas EM Annendora was here as a floater before she was asked to move over to Lake Austin to be their EM. So Catskills now has two EMs (Although EM Kasaven is still missing, but rumor has it Owain Surrey had a vision as to where to find him and will be gathering forces for such a mission this coming Friday.) EM Cernunnos was kind enough to chat to the gathered people about our shard and what types of events we might want in the future. He tried his best to greet and make every new person who came through the door feel at home. He listened to what each person thought was important and asked insightful questions to get a clearer idea and picture of what they were trying to stress to him. In passing he mentioned that he comes from a strong role playing background and inquired about the status of some of the better known Role playing guilds on the shard. This may be a book he will need with some of the people we have around. Hope he reads it cover to cover. Many of the requests given to him were things that he as a EM has no power over, and these thoughts, ideas and problems should be emailed to the game Development team. Other ideas for fun events involving the zoo and the high seas he wrote down to work with later. He asked that anyone who wishes to get married to please post it on the board in the new wedding center, next door to the EM Hall in Britain, and then to check back later to see his response. If you see EM Cernunnos around do take the time to welcome him to his new home among us. I know I am looking forward to see what he comes up with in the future to keep our lives interesting. | ||

B^L Keep Drop Event 2009 loved by all! | ||
Posted on Monday, February 9, 2009, 12:16 AM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
The Blunt Logic guild (B^L) in what can only be called a most stunning and wonderful event on Saturday night dropped an entire keep loaded down with 100 million in checks for gold and brimming all over with many very desirable items. The turnout for this give away was huge as many hoped to find both wealth and rare items at the announced time of the dropping of the building. You may ask why a guild would do this? Well they did it to give back to the shard that means so much to them. In the time before the keep fell members of the B^L ran some contests to keep the excited throng entertained and gave out even more gold and items. Just before the appointed time the owners of the keep asked everyone to gather at the front and then promptly at the appointed time dropped the structure. There was a moment of lag and then everyone rushed forward trying to grab as much as they could, before someone else could. Many were not sure what they got in the mad rush, but there was many squeals of delight when they checked a bit later. Congratulations go out to all that were involved in this event because appreciative shard would like to thank you for being so very giving. | ||

Pirates do know how to have a good time! | ||
Posted on Sunday, February 8, 2009, 11:48 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Saturday the 7th of February was a very busy night for the members of the (UP) United Pirates with the evening starting off at their “Jolly Roger Inn” where they hosted the PGoH (Purple Guardians of HONOR) guild’s “Traveling Bard's Night”. An packed tavern gathered to hear the talented bards spin tales about the theme of the evening: Tales about the Sea. All the bards who were brave enough to stepped forward to share their tales were treated to good natured taunts, laughter and appreciative applause as the crowd enjoyed in maybe a bit too much ale and rum. When they were done the judges were led outside to make a very hard choice the top three tales of the evening. These are some of the bards who entered and shared their skills with the spoken word with everyone. Yes Keico is a talking squirrel. In third place was Trinsac (UP) who spun a raunchy tale of a young sailor on his sea voyage and a barrel. For this efforts he was rewarded with 125,000 gold pieces and many pirates pointing at each other after his story was done. In second place was Sarda (UP) Who told a story about a fisherman and the fishman/ woman.. thing that he encountered three nights in a row. He walked out with 375,000 gold for his tale of confusion on the fisherman’s part. The winner was Akuma (MgKA)who weaved a masterful yarn about sailing past a rock sticking out of the sea with a lost pirate stranded on it. Whom she picked up three days in a row only to have him disappear from the deck of her ship. Many a pirate wasted his drink by spitting it out laughing so hard when Akuma reached her punch line to the story. Soon as the “Traveling Bard’s Night” was over everyone moved over to the Black Market that was being held in the building right next door to the tavern. There vendors from all over hawked their wares for prices that were way below what the vendors sell them for in Luna. Haggling was encouraged and if you were blessed with the gift of the tongue you could almost feel like you were stealing from the vendors for the prices you could get items for. It’s just a shame that this market is only open once a month because they may have the best deals you can find. Shortly after that this reporter had to go witness a keep falling down, otherwise I would of loved spending more time watching drunken pirates swapping tales of adventure, and crossing cutlasses in duels of mock combat just to stay sharp for the next time they hit the high seas again in search of prey. | ||

The heart's association with Eros, god of sexual love, and Cupid, his Roman counterpart, prevails to this day. [NEWS] A Tale of Two Thiefs | ||
Posted on Friday, February 6, 2009, 7:17 PM EST by Andrasta (Atlantic) | ||
Gather round now children....I've gots a tale to tell ya... Now everyone is familiar with your garden variety thief who steals items from his victims. And although I know you'll find it hard to believe...there are other more sinister thieves... At the bottom or top of the hierarchy as is your perspective is the thief that steals another man's ideas and work. They are not concerned with respect for the efforts of a beloved & honest man. They only wish to profit. All this is well and true but tonight's tale is not of these thieves, common as they be, tonight's tale is about a different kind of thief. Tonight's tale is about Shinobi - "The Thief Tax" I sat down with the man responsible for uncovering this dastardly plot, none other than our own beloved Tazar from ODE. I asked him what had occurred earlier this week. He said to me... "Today, a small book was casually slipped into the pocket of one of our guild members at the crowded Luna Bank. Minutes passed before she realized that she had a book." Upon opening the book, she read: "The Thief Tax - by Shinobi" and he took out the very book and opened it. "Greetings", it said...and he read it aloud for me to hear. "It has come to our attention that your guild roster has reached over 50 active members." "You are now going to be part of a tax that will be enforced by thieves, to provide partial protection to your guild." I looked at Tazar with widening eyes and urged him to continue....He shifted his weight, looked about the room we were in, looked me in the eyes and in a deep very serious voice he picked up the threads of the tale. "We are the biggest thief guild in all of UO. Our guild currently has over 60 active thieves. We are enforcing a tax on any guild with 50 or more active members on it's roster. The tax will not be too large, only 1 million gold per month. "Why would you pay this tax you ask? Well, as thieves, we have the ability to infiltrate your guild, and steal whatever we wish." "Paying this tax will keep us from going out of our way to infiltrate your guild and rob your members. "This does not mean that you are 100% protected from us. This just prevents us from purposely targeting your guild." "If you fail to pay the 1 million gold each month, or refuse, then we will begin to send thieves into your guild until you agree to make the payments. One million gold a month is nothing for a large guild. That is why this should be no trouble for you and your fellow guild members." "How simply horrible!" I said, interrupting his words. He looked at me with intense eyes and continued without waiting for my approval. "In order to make the payments, one emissary of your guild will be selected to have access to our guild house, Thieves' Fortress." "On the top floor of the fortress are 4 towers. Inside these towers will be containers, each engraved with a specific guild abbreviation. The emissary who is selected, will receive a key for your guild's designated container." "Once a month, this person must come to the fortress, and place a 1 million check into your guild's container, and then lock it back. We will have a copy of the key, which I personally will be in control of, so that only I may open these containers. The only people who will be able to entry the chests are the selected guild emissaries and myself." "If you fail to make a payment for a month, you will be given a 3-day grave period, and a warning if we can track you down. If after the 3 days ends, you have not provided us with the 1 million gold, we will begin to send thieves into your guild, and they will take whatever they wish." "Thieves come in and shape and form these days. We can appear as a noble tamer, a strong warrior, and many other forms. " "Do not take this as a joke, because we will go out of our way to infiltrate your guild and steal something worth far more than just 1 million gold." "The payments will begin in the month of February, so if by the beginning of March, you have not made a payment, then prepare to lose valuable items." "Thank you for your time." "That's just crazy...are they serious?" I said in total disbelief. "What can be done?" "What can we do?" "Do you know of other guilds or organizations that have received such a book as this one?" "Who is this Shinobi? "And where is the Thieves' Fortress?? I fired off more questions than he could answer at the moment and he left me wondering where the answers would come from and feeling grateful that I didn't have such a new friend as Shinobi... Bard's Night at Jolly Roger Inn | ||
Posted on Friday, February 6, 2009, 5:33 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
Hawkeye Pike of the (UP)The United Pirates had the following information forwarded to us at Stratics: At 7pm EST, one hour before the Black Market trading event on Saturday Feb. 7th, we'll host the "Traveling Bard's Night at the Jolly Roger Inn". The event is sponsored by the PGoH (Purple Guardians of HONOR). The rules of bard's night are simple (although they sound challenging for a pirate): - Leave your conflicts at the door and bring your stories with you. - No harsh obscenities are used in your stories. - There will be a time limit (usually five minutes, but may be changed due to the amount of storytellers). - All stories adhere to the theme: Tales about the Sea - The top three will win cash prizes and will be given an invitation to the champions event at a later date. The prize will be divided as follows; 500,000 gold crowns for first place,325,000 gold crowns for second, and 175,000 gold crowns for third. Judging will take place by three crowd members chosen at random, who will decide on the winners. Hawkeye Pike | ||

Posted on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 6:38 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
The United Pirates of Catskills announce the next Black Market event for Feb. 7th, 8 pm EST! During this monthly recurring event you can sell, buy or trade your wares! This time, we will also raffle off prizes to those who solved the Ransom and Blood quest. The facts: - Merchants can claim a personal market stand in the Black Market building, where they can advertise and sell their products. To do that, the merchants should enter the list of their products into the book locked down on their market stand (at least one day prior to the event, so people can come by and check on the items). - The prices should be LOWER than the regular Luna vendor prices! Bargaining is encouraged! - Are you looking for a certain item? You can post your request on the bulletin board out front of the Black Market. Merchants can check the board beforehand and have the appropriate items ready for sale. The board will be wiped after the Black Market is over. The Black Market building is located next to our Jolly Roger Inn in TRAMMEL: | ||

The Alliance Strikes Back! | ||
Posted on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, 6:44 PM EST by Morpheus Mardox (Chesapeake) | ||
As the old addage goes "the best laid plans" often go awry. That rang true last eve as forces from the True Britannians and (WoWz) guild began the evening seeking a fight and a fight was what they recieved. Holding up inside the dungeon Despise, repeatidly summoning the champion the Baccaroon from the starry depths, the altar island was the scene of the night's first skirmish. Knowing the hordes of Minax would soon be on to them, they braced for their arrival. The earth began to rumble as they faced off against the Baccaroon. The first scouts clicked across the east bridge and took numbers to report to the waiting raiders in the corridor. The seven residing on the island began their defense. With the Piper on thier flank and the newly allied forces of the "Reign of Tyranny" and the " Followers of Armageddon" pressing forward, The heavily outnumbered True Brit forces held the island till near daylight before succumbing to the sheer might of the combined forces of evil. Realizing thier position compromised, "WoWz" began thier fallback into the sparkling transports leading to Terethean Keep. Having compiled more kills than deaths they sacrificed the spawn for the hopes of a return battle. The forces of evil had won the high ground..... As I resurrected at the moongate along the plains leading the city of Moonglow I headed back to reflect on the nights fight only to recieve pidgeon that the True Britannians had rallied and where to head back to Despise. I hastily traveled to the famed Lord Escu's in Luna and the green runebook which allowed my travel to the nights battlefield. After arriving and recieving my prompt demise "as usual", I set up shop for round two. The champion quickly made his appearance as well as his downfall as the wait was underway. Arriving from the west corridor, the evil alliance mustered thier forces lying in wait, sizing up the once again small force of "WoWz". One less this time around six stood firm as the tide of evil began to engage them on the island. As many as eighteen to twenty amassed ,attacked ,fell back, and returned in efforts to slay the True Brits. Once the initial conflict took place the alliance was pushed back into the caverns sending the raiders scurrying to reassemble. A long battle ensued, as casualties from the alliance forces began to mount. Perhaps outstepping thier defenses the True Britannians soon found themselves pushed back to the island. the tide seemingly turning the alliance forces at last had them at bay. After what seemed an hour, the fight had begun to once again favor the evil alliance. After a grand fight, killing many of the raiding foes. The defenses of the True Britannians bent and then broke as the sheer numbers of the evil alliance took thier foes by storm as they one by one fell to thier evil might. The day won by the evil alliance as all of "WoWz" lay dead in a sea of destruction. The raiders then gathered and let out cries of victory as thier mission although hampered, lengthy, and costly in numbers was complete. The night's fight was over as I returned to Guardians Gate for a well desreved ale. I pondered was this the turning point in the battle or merely fuel upon the flames to which we all warm our appetite for destruction? Shruggin it off for another nights iniebriation, I thought it best to enjoy the evenings fight and how good it felt to not be in black an white for now... | ||

This book is intended to be a listing of recurring, open to the public events that take place on Atlantic server. It is starting small with only 3 events listed but we hope to expand it to include all events that are recurring and open to the public. We would like for this to be a handy reference that players can use to find fun things going on every week. The idea is to grow and strengthen the overall UO community. If you have an event that is recurring and open to the public, please consider going to www.llts.org and using the "Contact" option in the upper right to submit yours. We will get it entered into the next revision of the book. If you have suggestions of other content that would be useful to our whole community, please feel free to submit that as well. Note: We have retired our guild "Defining Success" book and are instead focusing on community based books such as this one. Submitted by Dragons, LLTS Thank you Dragons! Any and all efforts to enrich our Community Spirit are welcome! Andrasta, Atlantic Shard Reporter GRL | ||

"Letters to the Scribe" Subject: Casca | ||
Posted on Sunday, February 1, 2009, 12:39 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
In an effort to provide a voice to all the citizens of our fair lands we asked all of you to forward a letter to our scribes to be published showing your views on our new king. Only two souls were brave enough to send us letters and here they are. Now all opinions expressed here do not reflect the personal opinions of Stratics or the staff of scribes that write here. (In other words Cacsa do not send the Royal Guard after us!) Ahoy! Well, we pirates certainly gots an opinion on Casca, da new king. Casca o' Heartwood certainly did nut amuse us wid da prosecution of Ricardo da Thief, as Ricardo pretty much has a typical pirate philophy o' life. Ricardo is a clever scoundrel wid guts like a kraken hunter, who managed ta purloin da Ophidian artifact fer his personal profit. Now he's gone adrift, and nobody knows whar he is. It is fishy! We all know dat dere is no Royal Council at da moment, as da Council was assassined a few months back. So who elected Casca ta be a king? He claims he gots da blessin' of Clainin, da sole survivor o' da Council massacre (well, Casca mysteriously survived, too), but ever since dis crime, Clainin is very ill an' bedridden in New Haven and doesn't speak a word. Da questshun is, is Casca bamboozlin' us? Anyways, he's blowin' an ill wind with his new tax collectin' business, ruinin' an important source of our pirate income. Also, we vary much rely on da independence of da cities Buccaneer's Den and Jhelom. Buccaneer's Den as bein' our natural home town, and Jhelom 'cause we use dis town fer... well... undisturbed trading business (as y'all know, Jhelom is located just off-shore of our pirate village). However, we still hope we can come to an agreement wid dis landlubber king. He is nut OUR king, as da United Pirates are free men o' da sea (and wenches, o' course). If'n no agreement can be met, we shure as hell can find ways ta undermine his authority. Hawkeye Pike The United Pirates To Whom it may Concern: This past week, we were called together to meet, and speak openly of the Lord Casca's ascension to the throne. As you may know, it did not end peacefully. Much information was given at this meeting, and questions were answered - but the events at the conclusion have caused us to ask even more. For one, why Kasaven? He has allowed us into his hall, and allows us to discuss this matter, but he has not chosen a side. Though he is a mystery, he appears to be a powerful mage, yet I feel he is more than your common wizard. It has become apparent, in light of recent events, that we cannot trust the Lord Casca. The citizenry is divided on the issue, and I cannot see how order can be maintained. I have heard rumors of treason and the whispers of civil war - and all this while we continue to suffer the attacks of the Shadowlords on our cities. I feel that Casca is not to be trusted. I do not doubt his right to rule - he is, after all, a member of the council. But I do not feel that he is quite himself. He keeps far too many secrets, and I suspect he may be in the control of the Shadowlords. His plans, as mentioned at his speech, seem to be more of a threat than a message of hope - For one, his taxation will cause the cities to either start open rebellion, or to surrender to his will. It is not about gold, it is about power. And control. I worry about the future of Trinsic. The Purple Guardians of Honor claim the city was placed in their care by Lord British himself, and I do not doubt they will take up arms to defend it from this claim. And many of my fellow adventurers will not take kindly to strangers demanding gold of them, whether they are royal tax collectors, or common brigands. Finally, he has had his guardsmen place traps throughout the realm, most likely an attempt to snare Sherry, or to restrict her movements. Why should he strive to stop her when he obviously has the legal right to rule? Or why send the guard after Owain? Should they not be more concerned East Britain's periodic dragon problem? I feel we ought to be attempting to discover the source of these invasions, and what sort of magic the Shadowlords are casting that could cause our own citizens to take up arms and fight for them. I feel it is quite possible they have been using Casca to create strife between the peoples of Britannia. They aim to drive us into a civil war, and ultimately keep our attention on each other, and not on their own movements. It is entirely possible that the victor of this war will hear only the iron boots of the Shadowlord army at the victory celebration. I only hope others can realize this before it's too late. We ought to march to war, but against the Shadowlord threat, not our own brothers in arms. Signed, Corvak. | ||

Va’lis Razele and Melina Gerson Wed at Midnight Febuary 1st | ||
Posted on Sunday, February 1, 2009, 12:21 PM EST by Vallend (Catskills) | ||
In the first moments of Sunday the first of February Va’lis Razele and Melina Gerson were joined together in holy matrimony. This was the initial wedding to take place under the new EM wedding system, and there was high interest in the Ceremony. The location chosen for the nuptials by the happy couple was Terort Skitas (translates as Tower of Knowledge) a temple built into the side of a mountain. When Montor fell, this is where most of the scholars went to rebuild. Most of the information about Ilshenar was obtained from the scrolls and books inside of the walls of the temple. What was once a refuge for the greatest minds in Ilshenar, is now nothing more than an empty monument to the people that past. Terort Skitas can be found in Ilshenar south east of the Valor Gate. You have to cross the Pormir Felwis river and follow it south till you find the mountain that Terort Skitas is built into. There are two methods of reaching Terort Skitas one is to travel through two levels of the Sorcerers Dungeon, and the other is to teleport up from beside the waterfall to a small grassy ledge at the lowest levels of the temple. The wedding party and guest gathered at the Valor Shrine gate in Ilshenar and waited to be led to Terort Skitas. When the appointed time arrived the wedding group moved out and headed to the location. When reaching the mountain rather than risk lives EM Annendora helped those who did not have the ability to teleport up get to the wedding site. The temple set a peaceful and serene tone for the lovely wedding as the gathered people listened to EM Annendora joined the joyous couple as one. The bride and groom, dressed in very becoming outfits, looked very much in love as Annendora led them through their vows. Once the rings were placed on each other’s fingers and the mandatory kiss took place the gathered witnesses broke out into applause as Annendora introduced the newlywed couple to the world. The wedding was followed by a reception on the floor above where the wedding took place. Many of the gathered people also signed in to an guestbook that they did not realize was there prior to the wedding. The bride and groom got many well wishes for the future and praised on the beauty of their ceremony and choice of location. Even on this joyous day there was a small bit of sad news for the shard. EM Annedora has been asked to leave us here on Catskills. Though it is good news for her because she will be moving on to Lake Austin to take the position as their new EM. They will gain a wonderful EM because even though her time here was limited many people enjoyed their time with her and she will be missed. Her position as our floater will be taken by EM Cernunnos, so if you see him please welcome to our shard. | ||
