Poison Apple / Clash at MNM

This just in from the Monday Night Madness crew.

Monday Night Madness got off to a rocky start this week. First, Will got there late due to the patch. When he got there the house was in an uproar due to some immature people. A few people were removed and some banned. There were a few deaths during the night.

We played Poison Apple and Spaz picked the box with the apple that killed our hostess, Demi. Later in the evening, Will and Walter battled it out during Clash of the Titans, with Will coming out on top. The last time they fought Walter won so this evened up the score. Raven was our big winner of the night. She came in third in Flipped Out but traded for the box that contained a Clothing Bless Deed. She then answered the last mini deal of the night and won a check for 100k.

We wish to thank all of our patrons who attended. We will have another event in 2 weeks, announcements to follow later.

Wanna Meet Meraktus For Yourself?

Hey there, Catskillians!

Wednesday, April 30, 9 PM EST, prepare for death, destruction, epic battles, and mad cows!

Paradox has posted the following, and I'm sticking it up here on the front page in the hopes that some of you male warriors will get your heads handed to you so I can comfort your lady folk.

Labyrinth (Malas - 56° 36' North 28° 37' East)

"An immense avalanche has revealed the existence of a previously inaccessible ancient structure. Through a winding gorge, players descend to the crumbling edifice built into the cliff wall. The mysterious building is covered in bas relief sculptures of terrifying men-beasts, with bull heads and powerful human torsos. The building is smaller than the exterior would suggest and exits into an immense courtyard, open to the sky and surrounded by other buildings to explore.

Portions of the ancient city are still inhabited by its founders, the minotaur. Meraktus, a powerful tormented minotaur (champion spawn) rules her people from the center of an ornate labyrinth. Scavengers and winged creatures have nests and dens in ruined portions of the city including: Scorpions, Air Elementals, Drakes, Chimaera, and a Phoenix."

Plan:
- 9 PM EST, Prism of Light Focus (if you are poor, gold will be supplied by the entrance)
- 9.15 PM... Labyrinth under siege.

Specific tactics:
- Move slowly but surely into the Core (stone building)
- Cross heal and avoid being a target
- The many buildings provide safe niches where you can vet your dragon, stand behind your earth elementals...
- Para Fields will be VERY helpfull...
- Units of necros can clean the entire area...FAST (remember to have an appointed healer)
- Talismans of Cow Slaying will work (duh)
- Repond Weapons
- Gather the blessed minotaur artefacts for a later quest
- SKIN them all for extra resources
- Be extra carefull with the phoenix (area damage)
- Pull the miasmas and other tough monsters SOUTH if you feel like it.

What to expect:
- The Minotaur Spawn in Labyrinth Dungeon is the only known Champion Spawn without an altar. Simply by killing spawn near the back of the dungeon, stronger spawn will appear. There are two system messages that are broadcast each time the spawn level advances:

A minotaur captain barks an order to his fellow scouts, "Aid the others! Kill the invaders!"
A minotaur captain bellows, "Meraktus has arrived!"
Then Meraktus the Tormented appears. Meraktus the Tormented Minotaur is the Peerless champion in the Labyrinth. Meraktus has only been summoned a few times. He has an area effect that is brutal, so if he's summoned, be careful. He also has an attendant spawn of 4 Tormented Minotaurs

There are no known special rewards for completing this difficult spawn... but we'll offer a wheel of cheese to everyone...

(The only requirement to enter the dungeon is access to Mondain's Legacy content.)

DO COME INSURED and if you need insurance gold do ask, so you have a safety net...

May You Live In Interesting Times,
Lord Franklin

Taking a much needed rest from the Moonglow slaughter last night I stopped by the Brit Bank which I have not done in months.

The bank was a steaming bed of commerce and drama as always. Some things just never change, even after seven years plus.
In the past often I would enter gates at the bank just to see what I might see and I did just that last night and I was transported to a lovely shop on waters edge. It is owned and created by Madonna.

Nicely designed with a player created fountain the vendors offered much in the way of needs and luxuries.

The owner was AFK during my visit so we did not get a chance to chat but by the looks of things even more vendors will be added.
The cords to this shop are 168o 55'S, 140o 34'N

If you would like me to stop by your shop PM me and I would be more than happy to take a tour.

Lava,

Sorry about the late notice, but we wanted to let you know that we will be open for games on Monday April 28th. This Monday's game is Let's Make a Deal.
Gaters will be Bailey and Nameless Mule, look for them at West
Brit and Luna banks. Our hostess will be Demi with Walter handing out checks for mini deals.

I will be the MC. We are all, but Walter, new at our jobs but
we are hoping to give you a fun and entertaining evening. We will also be interested in ideas of what our patrons like and would like to see us continue, or suggestions for new ideas of things they would like to see us try.

Come and join us. We'll be waiting for you.

Great William

William,

I am so glad to hear Monday Night Madness is carrying on without a sabbatical. Often it is highly entertaining when people take on new jobs. See you there!

Fondly, Lady Lava

I spent the entire day yesterday at The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens located in San Marino California. For those that have never been it is a true gem and worth a visit for sure.

Housed in the library are some of the rarest books from the Canterbury Tales, the Gutenberg Bible and a large original Audubon's Birds of America. An amazing collection of Shakespeare's early edition works and Medieval books/tales brings one back to the realm we all live in as it is from that period in time.

The above and below photographs I took are of a statue that is displayed on the North Vista lawn. Needless to say I was reminded once again of the realm with the elvish-like ears.

Now onto this weeks Obituary Column. After months of no appearance I am proud to start this weeks column with the Obit Centerfold Princess Amara. Welcome back girl !

                                                                UO Risk Underway!

The battle for Vesper has begun! Thursdays commencement of the shardwide event modeled after the famous board game "RISK" was a grand success as the sides of Light and Darkness waged war for control of the islands of Vesper in attempt for WORLD domination! The nights first event was held inside the Ottersrun Taphouse in Guardians Gate as players gathered, chose sides, and engaged in a bar room game of Darts to award the nights first land territory.

For those who arent familiar with the rules each nights event wether it be a hand to hand fight or a predetermined event such as the joust. The side with the winning score will be awarded an island along the chain of lands we call Vesper. next the losing side will be given the choice of which island to attack in a "turn" fashion.  the battle or event will commence and it's winner will win an island and so on... Here is the current game board:

Last nights action awarded the island labeled "Open 2" to the warriors of Light and with Dark Lords preceeding turn they attacked the newly gained island! In the mass assualt the Dark side obliterated the Light to take the win!

In Lights next turn they stood firm and held the island to regain control and costly momentum for the Dark side.

Dark went on to take island labeled "Open 3" before nights end to round out the nights turns. Join us next gathering for some fun and look to the Calendar of Events for the next match!

    FoF: Publish 52 Is Coming!

April 12, 2008

"How do the turn-ins actually work?"

It's a point system. Each item that can be turned in is worth a certain number of points, and you can then spend those points to get the reward items. And, speaking of the reward items...

Shirts
Nocturne Earrings
Royal Britannian Guard Sashes
Sherry the Mouse Statue
Snakeskin Boots
Knight's Armor

--

"I noticed that "Threads of Fate/Life" and "Cloaks of Corruption" weren't on the list of turn-ins. I wonder if that was an oversight, or do they have an as yet unrevealed purpose?"

Draconi has confirmed that the Threads and the Cloaks will have a future use unrelated to the turn-in system - so hang on to them!

--

"So... what does the Cloak of Corruption do, anyway?"

Current abilities of the Cloak of Corruption:
  • Attempts to aggro a large area around the player
    • Doesn’t work in towns/guard zones
    • Cannot aggro players, pets, summons, or benign creatures
    • Cannot aggro anything that is currently in battle
    • Increases speed of aggro’d mob for several minutes
    • Boosts Fame obtained from aggro’d mobs
    • Can draw attacks up to 30 tiles away
  • Rapidly decays Karma
    • -500 karma every 30 seconds equipped
  • Rapidly decays HP, Mana, Stamina in the normal world
  • Rapidly restores HP, Mana, Stamina in the Ethereal Void

--

"Punctuation is cool and all, but where are all the exploit fixes?"

Exploit fixes are a tricky thing to talk about - it's terribly demoralizing for players when a well-known exploit seems to go ignored, and we'd love to be able to reassure you that it's getting fixed. However, we don't want to spread knowledge of a given exploit before the fix goes live, so we end up having to make vague statements ("We're fixing house placement exploits!") without giving any real detail. That's the situation we're in with publish 52 - when I was putting together that preview list, I cut out at least half a dozen exploit fixes, not including the house placement exploit stuff. Sometimes, we just want to be able to savor the image of all the exploiters suddenly discovering their favorite tricks don't work...

--

"Is the event going to advance at all before this publish?"

No, and the unavoidable delay occasioned quite a bit of salty language around the office, because we're really excited about the next phase and want to get it out to you as soon as possible. It's too big to get out without the full publish process, though. Sharpen your swords, send your loved ones to safety, and prepare yourselves...

--

Playguide Updates:

Caught up with Publish 51 in time for Publish 52:

Animal Taming - updated with the Publish 51 command changes.
Vendors - updated with the change to insured items no longer allowed on player vendors.

--

What's To Come:

So the whole "ready for its debut" bit from last week turned out to be a wee bit premature, as Murphy's Law apparently decided to exercise veto power. Look for a client patch and Test Center publish early next week!

Ethereal Returns To MOA Auctions

It has been months and months since I last attended an MOA auction. They run Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
For many years the MOA auctions were never missed by me. I was there both nights every week without fail. Things change , life changes but MOA always holds a special place in my heart and I still attend MOA Monday Night Madness game nights at Ice Castle as often as possible. On the subject of Monday Night Madness I am happy to report I was told that game night will return in the near future. * jumps up and down *

Upon arriving at the auction house on wednesday I approached the ever so sexy Melian to see if she had any checks for me and indeed the raving beauty did. She was free of her MOA granny gown and feeling very sexy indeed, looking it also.

To my surprise MOA main stay classic Ethereal was marking her return to the auction house. I had no idea she took a leave. She was always there and the foundation of the place burned in my memory. I was happy to see her.

Ethereal,Melian and DJ Scorp were welcoming faces indeed. Most of the patrons were strangers to me. I received no warm welcome which seemed odd as MOA was my stomping ground for so many years. Out of sight out of mind I guess ..... the world is always changing.

It was a very busy night at the auction house with Dracklure, Betty Boop, Travesty, Drinyll, Tyrael Kreegan, Lady JuJu, Huma, Ermac Firebrand, Lady Liesha, Brooke, Tiggermeat, Davey, Drugist, Lewis, kevin, Lord Big Bear, Lisa Valorite, Lady Creation, Night Star, Evista, SLASH, Monster Energy, Tia, Sven, Gargomel, Pyro, Ruric, Ghost, Hannah, Falconess, Chaotic Barbie, Joe Dirt, Symbolia, KK Star, Ramalad The Dark, Big Bertha, Elah, Bailey Bugs and Cold Fire were some of the patrons along with MOA staff Praxiska, Aubrey and Sid.

I did some bidding myself and won several items as the highest bidder. As always good items were on the auction block.

It seems that MOA will be presenting some new events in the near future. DJ informed the crowd Pratt is behind some upcoming things and that mongbats may be involved. We always look forward to anything MOA hosts!

Are You Ready for the Next Phase in Moonglow?
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2008, 6:24 AM EDT by AirmidCecht (LakeSuperior)
Greetings all!

As we have seen many changes in Moonglow, all reported quite nicely in the BNN articles, we know there are more changes to come. Are you ready?

The citizens of Lake Superior have once again proven their abilities to fight, heal and collect their spoils from slain monsters. Since some time has passed when the opening of the mysterious rift occurred in Moonglow, I thought it would be nice to update us a bit on where we were, where we are and where we may be going.

I asked permission from Galen Knighthawke to record his summary on events there and what Draconi of EA could be quoted as saying, "That is as succinct a summary I've yet seen so far, nicely done."

Thank you Galen for this insightful information:

*The Time Lord appears to be on our side. (For the moment anyway.)

Someone posts the actual dialogue that took place before the black gate that could bring us back to real Moonglow.

Add to this the fact that Draconi stated, definitively, in another thread that the Shadowlords are now loose, thanks to the blackrock detector.

1. The Shadowlords are definitely loose in the "real" world (meaning are loose from their realm, in Britannia proper someplace);

2. They definitely killed Kornos (no loss there, the moron);

3. It is definitely their minions we're fighting in the rift;

4. One of them at least (Astaroth, the Shadowlord of Hate) was behind at least one of the recent events (the attacks on the Shrines of Love);

5. The reason we're fighting their "echoes" left in the Void is that the "real things" are somewhere loose in Britannia proper.

Yes, the Shadowlords are behind this.

Why this isn't clear to Avery is beyond me....He wasn't there when the Rift opened up, and he's probably helping his bosses to control the flow of information, maybe?

Ruling Council: Go to Moonglow, set up some guards, and wait. And emphasize to everyone that there's no evidence the Shadowlords are involved.

Avery: But witnesses....

Ruling Council: There's no evidence that they were involved.

Avery: Aye.

I hope this opens up discussion on what may be the next phase coming to Mooonglow. Look for updated information on the rumored "turn-ins" in another post coming soon.

As always I hope we continue to stand together, bless your healers and share your bounties!

The 2nd HLP Trade Caravan (Graphic Intensive)

Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2008, 5:41 AM EDT by kayne (Europa)
>>> Felucca Facet News <<<

On Tuesday evening the second Trade Caravan took place. Once again many defenders showed up to protect the caravan in this dangerous trip that would take us from Britain to Trinsic. Thanks to all the vaillant warriors who did fight on our side!

And now the full story!

The gates started 20 minutes before the caravan depart and the Britain bridge wasn't very full. I started to fear that the road brigands would outnumber us by far!

But soon enough more and more people joined us and I regained confidence.

Once again we had a "special treatment" from our local beggars. My ears still hurt!

Before the time of depart comes many people were assembled on the Britain bridge! It looked like the travel would be safer than expected!

Before the depart, I made a little speech to brief the people and introduce the two other caravan leaders. People were instructed to follow the closest caravan leader they had.

More people kept arriving as I was finishing the short briefing and we were ready to start marching!

We started to march in relative order on the road down to Trinsic.

We were reaching the limits of the town of Britain and I thought to myself... "way too quiet!"

It didn't lasted long for the first brigands to be spotted!

And the first squirmishes started... right outside Britain's borders! It was going to be a long evening!

Many squirmishes later we finally reached the Trinsic road bridge!

As we expected, the brigands were camping it and we had to battle and cast our way through the fields and arrows!

We tried to clear the surroundings of the bridge to allow the Caravan to pass through it and continue on it's road to Trinsic!

That's where things turned to the worse... in the heat of the battle, the defenders started to chase the brigands who ran on the road down to Trinsic where more of them were waiting.

But... in the same move, they let the caravan defenseless... and I found myself with a handful of defenders and a pack load of attackers! It didn't took long before the world was alternating between colors and greys...

I was running back and forth trying to gather what was left of the Caravan to make our way through the enemies but it was useless. I then decided to run to Trinsic and raise a rescue mission with the people there.

I finally came across the main body of the Caravan near the Trinsic entrance.

Fortunately, the rest of the Caravan leaders could gather the survivors and promptly headed south to rejoin the main group. But on the road to Trinsic entrance the brigands attacked us again!

The battle raged on on the very door of the Paladin's town!

We repelled the attackers but soon enough they did fight back and we were pushed to the doors of the town in defense!

We finally entered the town of Trinsic with the brigands chasing us to the Bridge!

When the minds and the hearts calmed down, we finally regrouped to heal our wounds and see how things turned out.

The result wasn't too brilliant, most of the sword holders got killed and looted of their precious belongings. So we couldn't save but 2 swords from the 8 that departed Britain.

Let's just hope we'll do better next time and that we'll be able to keep the Caravan grouped for a better ending! And possibly less casualities!

Finally we thanked everyone and took our way home to rest from this evening of battle and glory (well... and death!).

Once again, thanks to everyone who attended and made this event and enjoyable one! Thanks and congratulations to the Reds who were highly outnumbered but still succeeded in stealing most of the swords!

Thanks to all those who showed the good spirit we europa players are so proud about! You all make those events an enjoyable time!

A personal thanks to Tyreus (one of the Reds) for rezzing me

-------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Paidric this time round for the report and the screenshots it contains. I spent most of the event dead and on my own so my report wouldn’t have contained very much.

I’m setting a little community minded challenge for the next caravan. I think it will be fun to involve people even further in this.
What I want is for a member of the community to write the next report. To be posted here on Stratics as the official news report with thanks to the writer being given. All you need to do is before the next event send me via pm or to the Europa email address a short report on one of the caravans that have already taken place.
The only other thing I ask is that whoever gets picked to write the official report that you send it to me as soon as possible after the event has finished so that it can be posted as quickly as possible.

Ahoy! United Pirates Announce Contest

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<A message in a bottle arrived at the Catskills news desk, with this note inside...

Marooned - Island Survival Contest

On April 26th 2008, at 7 pm EST (12 pm UK time, 1 am Central European time), the United Pirates are organizing a new interesting event! The participants will be marooned on a small island where they can prove their survival skills and win a great prize! Have a starting fee of 10,000 gold pieces ready! The winner takes it all! All participants must have highlighting with each other. This should be taken care of before the event.
(Note: Should this collide with a special Moonglow event, we may postpone the Survival Contest.)

THE RULES:

Step 1 - Empty pockets!
Arrive at the Jolly Roger Inn (the headquarters of the United Pirates, map see below) in Trammel with nothing on you, nothing in your backpack. No runebooks, no spellbooks, no books of bushido, chivalry, necromancy or spellweaving. Absolutely no armor, jewels and equipment whatsoever. Don't even try to sneak in any stuff that would give you an unfair advantage over the other participants.

Step 2 - Preparation
Each participant will recieve a bag containing a rune to an unknown location, a recall scroll and a key to your personal treasure chest. These should be the ONLY items in your backpack. The key should be insured, and auto insurance should be switched on. Everyone joins into the party of the game leader, to be able to communicate with him. When everyone's ready, all participants will recall simultaneously to their personal rune.

Step 3 - Where am I?
All contestants will find themselves on the same small island, but each one on a different spot. You'll be standing next to your personal treasure chest waiting to be unlocked with the key in your backpack. It will contain a level 5 treasure chest (already picked and untrapped; gold and map removed), a number of useful items and one special item.

Step 4 - Let the battle begin!
The object is to find other players and loot their special item. The player who first has all the special items at the same time, wins.

Rules and Hints
> Equip yourself from your treasure chest. As they have been left in their original state (only gold and map removed), its contents are completely random.
> You loot your opponents to get their special item, and to improve your own equipment. Anything can be taken except the key (which should be insured anyway).
> Insuring items (except for the treasure key) is not allowed! (Illegally insured items could easily be detected, cause if being killed, the winner will receive a part of the insurance fee as a reward.)
> It is a good idea to keep your personal treasure chest locked.
> The treasure chests will also contain logs to make them heavy, so they cannot be carried away.
> You are allowed to get resurrected as often as you like. But keep in mind that each time you are killed, you will lose items.

The Winner
If someone has looted the special items off all other players, he has to page the game master through party chat immediately. The fighters have to cease their activities immediately - the game is over! A gate service will be provided to rescue all participants from the island.

-----
Ah, I can only imagine the mayhem! Good luck to all who choose to be marooned!

The Twisted Weald Defeated

t was an amazing spawn full of new creatures to battle at the fourth tier like the treefellows and raging grizzly bears, with corpses fertilizing the ground and pet bodies piled up like fodder.

And at the end, not only did the boss pop up, but a paragon boss at that, Twaulo of The Glade, a golden centaur who discords and provokes the spawn on the brave fighters there to cleanse the weald.

The corpse was diligently searched. Not only was there no spectacular loot, but the chocolate drops and chest were missing from this paragon Champ Boss.

Together with new titles like Banisher of the Glade, the altar, for a few moments was cleansed and glowed a different hue.

The spawn was hard and great fun and at the end anyone coming into the Weald joined in the activity.

Spotlight on UOPODCASTING.

In this issue we hear from UOPODCASTING. Also know as Shane & Frozen Yogurt

Out of Char questions

*How long have you been living in Oceania and what drew you to this world?
I was sitting in front of my PC at midnight when Oceania was launched. Therefore the length of time equates to the age of the shard.

*What was your best and/or worst experience in Oceania
The best experience has to have been a couple minutes after the shard launched.
I ran from the Ironwood Inn to the Vesper Bank and it dawned on me how much faster it was, when your ping was sub 200 milliseconds.

The worst experience was when they introduced Trammel.

*What is you main profession here?
Since Oceania was launched I have been focused purely on PvP.
I started UO in Dec 97 and therefore spent the first couple years exploring and enjoying the game for the experiences it offered.
Unfortunately OSI in those days never addressed the cheating and therefore the game lost its innocence and became purely a great PvP game.

*Who helped you when you first came to the shard?
Having played UO for several years my flat mate and I had a plan on how we where going to make the gold required to place a Tower.
We would macro a fisherman up and farm SOS bottles, as in those days overnight you could gather 20-30 SOS’s easily.

We also focused on building PvP characters, so the place to earn easy gold and get into a fight was at the Bucs Den provisioners.
You were able to kill the NPC’s for gold. Some of the PvP guilds then fought over who controlled Bucs.

*Did/do you have any major influences?
I played on Pacific for several years in an American guild that taught me how to PvP.
So I guess that first PvP guild had the most influence.

*Did you live on another shard before you came to Oceania? If so, which shard, and why did you leave?
Pacific. I left due to the lag and being able to be more competitive on Oceania.
Plus I was heavily involved in the petition to EA/OSI to get the local shard launched.

*What type of house do you have, and did you decorate it yourself?
I have a keep and it’s not really decorated. More it contains items that allow me to PvP and that’s about it.

*What is your most valued UO possession? And how did you acquire it?
To be honest I don’t really have a value on my UO possessions.
Having lost many items over time I’m not attached to any due to that fact and that EA tomorrow could shut the service down and therefore take away all items.

*What would be your greatest UO wish?
EA remove the ability for people to cheat and therefore level the playing field.

*What is your most favourite thing to do in Sosaria?
Fight and kill other players

*Is there something about you nobody knows?
No I’m afraid not. I think due to the fact I have recorded a number of podcasts people know most things about me in and out of UO.

*What has been your favourite addition to UO?
The addition of Oceania. If it wasn’t for Oceania I wouldn’t be playing today. The only reason I don’t play Siege is due to the lag.

*And least favourite?
The ability for people to cheat, and EA’s lack of resolution on cheating.

*What are your plans for the future?
To continue to enjoy playing UO when I have the time and when it is no longer enjoyable to close my accounts and move on.
After 10 years that’s a lot hard than it sounds.

*For those that don't know you, how would you describe yourself?
Brutally honest and blunt. I wear my heart on my sleeve and tell it as I see it. I love confrontation and change.

*How could someone recognise you in game, is there anything different about you that stands out from the rest?
I’m normally the loud mouth

In Character Questions

*Where were you born? and where do you Currently live?
The Ironwood Inn, Vesper.

*Did you design your home? And do you live with others?
No, through the spoils of killing and stealing from others I own two Keeps.

*Where is your favourite place to visit?
Anywhere in Felucca where there’s a warm heart beating and waiting to be silenced by my spells.

*What is your main profession, if none, what keeps you busy?
My primary profession is killing others and stealing their possessions.

*Are you a member of a guild?
I currently am a member of Tears of Chaos.
We are a guild dedicated to fighting our enemies and striking fear into those that appose us.

*What is your favourite thing in Oceania?
I don’t really have a favourite thing.

*What’s your least favourite thing?
Those that seek to gain an advantage through means not permitted by the law of the land.

*If you could change one thing in your Sosarian life with a wave of a magical wand, what would it be?
The removal of the ability to bend the laws of physics in our Sorsarian world. (Cheating)

*Do you enjoy hunts and outings? Which are your favourites?

I only really enjoy fighting others.
I also enjoy fighting the champions of the Felucca dungeons and selling the spoils of those battles for the coin of the realm.

*What are your views on the recent demise of Magincia and the not so recent ‘recreation’ of Haven.
These are places I do not frequent and therefore they have no bearing on my activities.

Thankyou for taking the time to answer the questions and allowing the readers to know a little more about you.

If there are question's you would like to see asked, or a person you would like to see interviewed please don't hesitate to contact me here, in game, or on ICQ.

Posted on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 10:59 AM EDT by kayne (Europa)

Welcome to the 16th Super Stratics Sunday. There goes another week; one where I’ve been very busy with a few things that I hope will turn out well.

I need your help Europa. I need some screenshots for the screenshot section. I need suggestions for shops/taverns to visit that haven’t already been visited. I need to know if the taverns I list here are all still operating at the times I say they are and if there are any others that need to be added to the list.

If you have an establishment, a guild, or a news item you would like featured in a Super Stratics Sunday. A silly story based on in-game events, an idea for an article, or an event whether it takes place in fel or in tram then please send it over to [email protected] or PM me

Continuing the tour of Luna again, nearly at its completion now. So please send over some suggestions for taverns or shops to feature here.

First up this week is Threes-a-crowd owned by Pestilence. Selling Tokens and some artefacts.

Next up is The Church owned by Gloria. Selling alacrity scrolls and Power scrolls.

Finally this week we have “Luna Nort Shop (in side Luna)” just next to the north exit. Owned by ANTRAX. Selling all sorts of stuff. (Just to note shop name is not a typo on my part)

  • The latest Five on Friday is out. Including a long awaited fix for water barrels and house placement. Check that outHere

  • That concludes this weeks news. Seems there was very little happening over the last week.

Events next week,

  • The second HLP Trade Caravan is on Tuesday 22nd April. Check out full details Here

  • The Rusty Dagger Ale House is on TONIGHT. Its open every Sunday from 8pm to 9.30pm.

  • As always, Swaggers Inn, The Trinsic Rose and The Kings Deer Tavern are all open in the evenings ALL WEEK!

This weeks screenshot is another from the archives, apparently the tent is on fire.
Please send in some screenshots if you want them featured here. (No shops or taverns please. Keep those for the establishment section)

Focus on Factions: Alexia of Origin

Focus on Factions: Alexia of Origin

Welcome to our next Focus on Factions article. Since I began playing factions about a year ago, I have met some fascinating people. Without doubt some of the most intriguing are the women who choose to participate in this aspect of UO. I hope these articles will enlighten and encourage other UO players to try factions.

What is your UO name?

Alexia

How long have you played UO?

5 years and counting

What do you consider your home shard?

Origin

What keeps you playing UO?

Friends, the unending array of things to do, there is no monotony in UO

What do you think of the new templates, soul stones, insurance, etc.?

Interesting..it keeps things fresh. Insurance.....iffy on that one...I like the SP idea of blessing one item....the game to me has become more of what you have then how skilled you are..sure it's just pressing keys on a keyboard but...if you don't have an *ubar* suit you really need to think about what you're doing. Soulstones....I like...you don't have to be the same person from day to day. I personally don't use them all that often but it's a nice thing to have.

Have they helped or hurt?

It depends on your point of view I guess....personally I wasn't around before soulstones and insurance so I can't really say either way. If I had to play without, I wouldn't mind.

What is your favorite type of character?

Archer...I have a straight archer and a Bushido Archer, both very fun templates.

How did you start playing Factions?

I stumbled across the faction stone in Mag one day..3 years ago? I read up on factions and it sounded very intriguing. I have had one major faction battle in my 5 years of playing and it was a blast. Factions aren't what they used to be, that's for sure, so now I just run sigils by myself and have fun with my opposing faction mates.

What faction do you belong to and why?

True Brit because I wanted to be close to the Great City, I really had no clue what factions were when I started and I figured TB was a good one. After I joined I started doing my homework! *laughs*

What do you think caused factions to “slow down”?

Lack of interest, wasn't fun anymore, no point to it...alot of people join factions for the cheap reg vendors....the *true* meaning of factions got lost in translation and it needs to be revived.

What do you think we can do to revive factions on your shard?

Wow.....first we need more people in general on my shard*grins* then a HUGE campaign promoting factions and why people should play them. I think alot of people really just have no idea, like I did, and if we inform the people, maybe more would join.

What would you change or add to factions? (and why?)

Hmm...tough question. The skeleton of the faction system is awesome. I'm sure it was great fun when it was introduced....stealing sigils, getting back to base and waiting. Faction battles used to be spectacular, now if you see one you're lucky. I'm really not sure WHAT I would add..but something to spice it up..something different. Maybe have a special monster spawn in the captured sigils town base or something...enemy guards surrounding the sigil you want to steal....an alert that's sent to all opposing faction members online *Alert, Alert* just make things more interesting and maybe *force* a battle just to get people into it again.

Do you see a difference in play style between men and woman?

Most definitely. *Most* not all, men, are harder...fiercer. blood-thirstier (If that's a word)

Have you seen any notable strength a woman player brings to factions or UO?

Women players have always brought a certain strength I think. I know from personal experience that alot of people are surprised that I do more then crafting and growing plants *grins* That's not to say ALL women are passive players, but as a rule women are more gentle and caring, nurturing mothers and to get down and dirty and shed some blood is something alot of women just don't do, so people are surprised when they come up against a female in a game, my opinion anyway.

What is your favorite part of factions? Ie, stealing, defending, etc?

Stealing is by far my favorite part, it's why I think it needs to be more interesting. The way it is now, at least on my home shard, there's nothing challenging about it, stealth in, steal. stealth out.....*yawns* The more people in a faction, the more people that KNOW a sigil has just been stolen, like the aforementioned alert system, would make it MUCH more exciting and more challenging.

Thank you for joining us for the first interview of a "woman in factions". I hope to be posting interviews/articles more regularly now that my new job has settled down a bit. If you are a faction player, male or female, and would like to be interviewed for this ongoing series, please email me at [email protected]. I am especially curious about your finest and not so finest moments in factions ... like the time I accidently bumped my heal button while stealthing out between a mass of guards....and it fizzled as they all hit me at once. It was a lovely monotone run to the healers....

This week I get the immense satisfaction of answering a couple of very old questions, plus check out some new Town Hall dates and an awesome player-run event!

"What does the "You have too many pets guarding you" message mean, and how do I fix it?"

Each character is only allowed to have 6 pets guarding it - this has always been true, but the latest publish introduced a message that actually tells you when you try to exceed that limit, instead of just failing to set the pet to "guard" mode. Pets set to "guard" that are stabled still count towards this limit, so if you receive this message, the way to resolve it is to pull your pets out of the stable and tell them to "stop," which will take them out of guard mode and let you select a new guard dog, or cat, or pony, or... whatever.

"When are you going to do something about all the trial accounts that monopolize the good housing spots?"

This is an extremely common complaint, and a valid one. The fix is not trivial, but we think it's worth it - as of the next publish, characters that are less than 15 days old will not be able to place or trade houses. This means that 14-day trial accounts will not be able to place or trade houses (as there's no way for the character to be older than the account,) and it should level the playing field a bit for our paying customers.

"Why did my Paroxymus Swamp Dragon disappear?"

This is another one that we've been getting bug reports on, and we finally tracked down the source. While we can't replace swampies that have been lost, we are fixing the root cause of the disappearance and they should be much more reliable after the next publish.

"What ever happened to the water barrel fix?"

Some of you remember that, about 18 months ago, a fix was put up on Test Center where water barrels and field spells would no longer block house placement. While this made some people very happy, the point was raised that placing water barrels and casting field spells was the only way to prevent people using illegal third-party programs from placing a house on the spot before anyone else could attempt it, or grab any IDOC loot. We pulled the fix in preperation for a more complete package of fixes that would address the underlying problem, and, now that we've got that all lined up, the water barrel fix will be introduced at the same time.

Playguide Updates:

Just a few this week:

Compassion - removed the line about Haven escorts not raising Compassion.
Material Properties-clarified the factors involved in enhancement success chance.
Animal Taming- added the skill loss percentage when a creature is paralyzed while being tamed.
Faction-Controlled Towns- corrected various of the timers involved in capturing a town.

What's To Come:

The next publish, as hinted at above, is just about ready for its debut - look for it on TC early in the week, Origin later in the week, and, barring disaster, all shards after a nice uneventful weekend on Origin. The next publish also contains some awesome event stuff, which Origin will be the first to see later in the week, including some ways to for all you obsessive hoarders get your lockdown counts down :P

Town Hall News:

The next Town Hall is in Rockville, Maryland - if you haven't RSVP'd, please do so! (A reminder - the RSVP isn't mandatory, and you won't get a confirmation or anything, but it's extremely helpful to us when trying to figure out how much food/swag/etc to order!)

Got a couple of new confirmed dates, too - the San Diego Town Hall will be Saturday, July 26 and the Chicago Town Hall will be Saturday, October 18th - for the full scoop, visit the Town Hall Page . Can't wait!

    Most Tasteless House Contest!!!
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Thursday, April 17, 2008, 5:11 PM EDT by Ishtar (Atlantic)

Greetings Noble Lords and Ladies! After taking Ginseng for a morning ride, I came across one of the er, well least tastful house designs that I've seen. To highlight the need for better house design and decoration I am announcing a contest:

    Most Tasteless House Design!

    The rules are simple:

    1. You can enter any house. Just realize that if you enter your own you will be admitting to having no taste.

    2. Your screen cap should show the actual house sign if possible, or you should include the house name and owner name in your post.

    3. You can make as many entries as you like but try and limit each entry to one picture. (Pick the worst floor of the house for your entry.)

    4. Please abide by the forum guidelines for picture sizes... NO FULL SCREEN CAPS PLEASE. (Those are very, very irritating.)

    5. VERY IMPORTANT: Please mark a rune to the house. In a later post I'll organize some way to collect these runes and create a "Most Tasteless Houses of Atlantic" runebook.

    CONTEST DEADLINE MAY 20TH 2008 17:00est

Perhaps I'll organize a wine tasting tour of tasteless houses... hmm.... how tasteful is that! Woot!

Oh... I guess you want to know how you will be rewarded for your efforts? Perhaps a free membership in the Scribes Guild? Ok, ok... how about 1milGP Yup a cool mil for participating in a silly contest... BUT... read the fine print...

    >>> if there are less than 16 entries... then no prize. <<<

Why? Cause it's my contest and I'm making the rules and if I'm giving away a cool million I wanna see some work for it that's why!!! Plus, that's how many runes it takes to fill a runebook, ok?

Here is the example from my morning ride that inspired the idea for the contest:

    Sincerely,
    Lord Raven of Minoc

Thank you Lord Raven for this one I can't wait to see the entries! Stay tuned and I'll announce the winner here on Stratics!

Received the following from Paidric of New Haven. Hope to see many of you there again

    --------------------------------------

    Hello fellow citizens,

Once again our guild will take the road on a trade caravan. This time we'll depart from Britain and head to Trinsic. We expect the trip to be rather dangerous so we look for as many guards as possible. If you don't fear some action, come and join us!

Here is the map of our planned route

Everyone is welcome to join us and help us defend our prized possessions in the dangerous trip.

The caravan will depart the coming Tuesday, enlist yourself!

    We count on you!

    Paidric of New Haven.

    ----------------------------------------

This event is intended for all players who want to experience some PvP in a fun and different way. We encourage every player to join us.
Bring your blessed armor and weapons if you fear the insurance cost! Or just buy some GM made armor/weapons.

You can find all details about the concept of the event here : http://caravan.uosites.com/

    Schedule and organisation

The Caravan will depart on Tuesday 22 of April at 8PM UK Time (9PM CET - 3PM EST).
The meeting point is the Britain Bridge just south of the bank. Gates will be provided from Luna Hall from 7:40PM until 8:10PM (the caravan will be on the road already).
Eight people will be carrying items for the Caravan, those will be engraved bronze Viking Swords carried inside the main backpack of the caravanees.
The goal of the guards is to reach our destination with as much of those items as possible.
The Caravan will be led by N'athuk of [HLP] (though we expect him to die quite a few times being in front). There will be 3 other caravan leaders to help keep some structure.

We hope to see many of you.

    Paidric.

Ever Changing Face of Luna ~ UO Museum

    ~

Once a year I do a " Ever Changing Face of Luna " article as this popular city is well visited and a mecca of commerce on Great Lakes. The "look" of the city is something that often comes up in conversation and I am sad to report the west end is still suffering from what many refer to as the " Crystal Virus " or Crystal Plague " or even " Crystal Disease ". Though personally I am not a huge fan of the crystal tiles two of the crystal structures are done very well, then again when the talented hand of Rose Red is behind them they are going to be great.

The east end of Luna has not changed much. Tas and his patchwork and ship inspired shops are still up and doing well as is Serenity's Luna Market. Pretty much all the plot designs are the same. Well, then there is my castle inspired plot that changed after my trip to Egypt this past November and it is now an Egyptian Temple inspired design.
The plot across from mine owned by Sass was redesigned the same week mine was. These two plots are not the only change on the east end. Burning Debris and an Effigy of a Traitor in the plot right behind mine may be the biggest change in Luna this past year....the most dramatic for sure!

The SC plots on the west have slowly been making a visual change on that side of the city. The naked green haired ladies are a stand out at the SC Mall.

It is however the UO Museum owned by Of The Ring that is the true new gem of the city. This museum gives a wide and long history of our world and every person should visit this new landmark.
Not only does this museum perk up the west end and the city, but also our shard.

Below are a few screenshots of the museum. One needs to click on each and every item to get a true feel and appreciate all that this collector has collected.

MOA Monday Night Madness At Ice Castle Will Be Silent ~

As I we were informed earlier this week game night run by the MOA Monday Night Madness Crew will be silent for awhile.
Real life issues have made it impossible for Vanna and several other crew members from keeping up with the monday night event.

Last night I arrived early at the castle to find Dani, Lady Mist and Bailey Bugs chatting with Vanna. They were voicing their concerns and sadness of the game night ending. Remember folks this is only for a period of time not forever. We don't know for how long however.
With that said Bailey and others during the event stated they would miss being a patron at the games but would be willing to join and be a member of the the Madness Crew.

Along with Vanna, Demitria and Great William ran the game which was the popular Chests of Doom and Delights. For Vanna's swan song she wore an outfit in deeep purple by her favorite designer, Whipstitch.

As the people started to arrive I could not help but notice two odd and interesting character names, Private Donuts and Happy Feet. Both of these names made me chuckle.
I sat with Aphrodite and FiFi LaForge of FCB, Duece of B*R, and Lady Mother Nature of DC*.

It was a busy night with over forty patrons. Not only was it busy it was rather wild and crazy with people being removed and even one player banned, that rarely happens. A Razor Blade was really acting out and not just in one form either.

After a little drama all calmed down and the game went into full swing. The chests were filled with great items as always.
The chest with the Spooky Cake is what I was after and I had it in my hands for some time. As the game goes sadly I lost it to Lady Mist. Lady Mist then lost it to Lady Mother Nature who went home with it at the end of the evening after placing it carefully in a box. This cake toss enlisted Goran to inform we I cannot have my cake and eat it to. I tried at least, lol.

Hopefully game night won't be gone for long. Last night was a blast!
I will leave you with a few shots of Vanna dead and dieing.

Every now and then, I come across something thats a bit different, sometimes slightly odd and at times quite amusing.
Ive decided to share these with you all as I find them so we can all share in the diversity that is Oceania.

Today while tracking down something for a friend, I went for a bit of a run around to see if there was anything else interesting.
    Well... there was.
I rounded a corner in an embankment at Terra Sanctum in the Lost Lands, when I noticed this fellow stumbling his way along the track...

How he came to be here is a bit of a mystery!!
Have any of you got any thoughts to how this sot ended up in such an odd place?
I might even give a prize to the best theory!

    Spotlight on Teeshy!
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Monday, April 14, 2008, 4:15 AM EDT by Katlene (Oceania)

In this issue of Spotlight, We hear from Teeshy and get to know a little about the person behind as well as one of her characters.

    Out of Char questions

How long have you been living in Oceania and what drew you to this world?

Around 2 years, but with a big gap in the middle when I couldn’t pay for the game for a while :) (Been around 14-15 months of actually playing in that 2 years)

What was your best and/or worst experience in Oceania?

Best has definitely been seeing how helpful people can be, and how friendly =D I love when there’s shard-wide events, like Magincia and currently Moonglow, and everyone is going out of their way to help out others with healing, ressing etc.

    Worst?

Well, not really so much a game thing, as back near when I started playing, I had 2 blue soul stones, I was designing my “dream house” and was using them as decoration, and seemed to forget to lock one of them down. I was so bummed at the time, soul stones were something I really felt I needed to have, since there is such a low skill cap on each character =)

What is you main profession here? (Please elaborate on why you chose it)

General crafter I guess, crafting is why I started playing in the first place. I’d been playing Runescape for a while (trying to find a game that worked with our connection, I’d never even dreamed a multiplayer online game would work at all, and when Runescape did I was rapt!) and was what’s known as a “skiller” over there, no combat at all, just all the other skills. Thing I liked most about the game, was the way you could mine ore, smelt it to bars, smith it to an axe, chop a tree for logs, cut the logs into an unstrung bow, or arrow shafts, pick flax, spin into a bow string, string the bow… the whole process of going from point “a” to point “b” fascinated me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyways, hubby said that as I was enjoying that as much as I was, I’d really love UO if we ever got a better connection, and I agreed, as I’d been a fan of Ultima games for some years, and had always wanted to try UO. Somehow or another, we got around to me actually trying UO, just to see how badly it played, and it wasn’t too bad at all, (plus, I’m a patient person, so I can usually cope with the lag) so I started playing. Now you can’t get me away ;)

Who helped you when you first came to the shard?

First person I remember helping me (several… many! times), was Sir Keith of HCM, I had SO many questions, and things I was just so clueless about! There isn’t a “learning curve” when you start UO for the first time, it’s like a learning mountain! There was also a lady, I think she was from the US, and I vaguely recall her telling me she was in her 50’s (I think!) she gave me a check for 20,000 gold and I felt SO rich! I had no idea what to do with it all!

Did/do you have any major influences?

Nah, not really, I go with how I feel at the time, other people don’t influence how I play the game at all really =) Well, except sometimes, if I’ve had a reason to get pissed at someone, I kinda get turned off people for a while, and start playing solo more =)

Did you live on another shard before you came to Oceania? If so, which shard, and why did you leave?

    Nope!

What type of house do you have, and did you decorate it yourself?

Castle now! =D I’ve only started decorating though, like 2 rooms =P is taking me a LONG long time! Not so sure I shoulda got a castle, I never really liked them, I just wanted the space =P Oh, it’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just they’re so grey! And I really enjoyed designing and redesigning my house =)

What is your most valued UO possession? And how did you acquire it?

Ermm, I don’t really have one I guess – I did have a couple of event items, but I sold them, cos while it was nice to have them, they were just sitting around, and I figured selling them to enjoy the proceeds on a more daily basis was a better idea =)

What would be your greatest UO wish?

Hrmm, I would kinda like to see the stuff I make on my crafter be more useful. You know, just regular armour be more useful =)

What is your most favourite thing to do in Sosaria?

That’s such a hard one! I enjoy treasure hunting, fishing, shopping (=P), taking part in events, some of the peerless bosses I can do in a group, general exploring, learning new things – I enjoy pretty much all of the game that I’ve tried so far!

Is there something about you nobody knows?

I feel terribly guilty any time I kill a Unicorn – I know it’s pixels, I still feel guilty =P (It’s why I started donating to the zoo in the first place)

What has been your favourite addition to UO?

Rubble! I’m too new really for there to have been any additions =)

    And least favourite?

See above! ;) Really hasn’t been any major changes that I can think of since I started playing =)

What are your plans for the future?

Keep having fun! That’s the only plan I really ever have in the game, have fun whatever I’m doing =)

For those that don't know you, how would you describe yourself?

I really don’t know how to answer a question like that =P I’m just me, simple as that =) Like me or don’t *shrugs* =)

How could someone recognise you in game, is there anything different about you that stands out from the rest?

Nah, not really, kinda bland, I blend in well =P

    In Character Questions

Where were you born? And where do you currently live?

I was born jus’ off the main road, ‘tween Trinsic and Britain – where Paws used to lay. I live not far from my birth place, in a glorious large Castle, on the edges of the Trinsic swamp

Did you design your home? Do you live with others?

Nay, I didn’t design such a grand building! I live in a small room, in the back of my Mistress’ Castle. I do have a lovely work area though (I can show ye a picture!)

There’s 5 other people living here (including the Mistress!) One is a treasure hunter, her room is not far from my work area (I can show ye a picture of that too, if y’ like!)

Where is your favourite place to visit?

I like wandering around, prospecting in the mountains between Britain and Yew, though there is quite a few Ogres and such running around there, which can cause a bit of a problem for a peaceful person such as meself.

What is your main profession, if none, what keeps you busy?

I be a bit of a “jack of all trades” I can smith most anything ye want made, sew a fair dress, and build great sturdy benches and tables. All that and I can dig me own ore as well!

Are you a member of a guild?

Indeed! The Shadow Rebels (S^R) have been kind enough to take me in, and be friendly towards me, and lend a helping hand when I be needing it!

What is your favourite thing in Oceania?

Most of the days, the people of course! Never seen such an interesting mush of different people and professions!

There’s some days when the old mel an’ choly takes over and I wander off into the mountains by meself for a few days – but I always comes back, and usually with my trusty pack llama Frank, bursting at the seams carrying all me iron bars!

    What’s your least favourite thing?

Ogres! Great big hulking brutes! Always trying to takes me ore, and eat Frank!

If you could change one thing in your Sorsarian life with a wave of a magical wand, what would it be?

I’d bring Paws back! That was the town of me ancestors!

Do you enjoy hunts and outings? Which are your favourites?

For meself, I can’t go along on hunts, unless it’s to repair armour and weapons. But I do enjoy when me Mistress, Teeshy, goes off with the others in the guild to fight the dreaded Lady Mel, or Travesty!

What are your views on the recent demise of Magincia and the not so recent ‘recreation’ of Haven?

Magincia was fun and exciting - to see the Mistress coming home each night, battered and sore, but still pleased with the daemon horde she had been fighting off (though between you and me, she whined as much about how many gold pieces she lost ‘cos of insurance, as she did about anything else!)

She was also bringing home all these, well, it looked to me like bits of building? And plants? I don’t really understand what went on in Magincia.

And the recreation of Haven, well, I wasn’t so well when all that happened, so didn’t see any part of it, and just was very confused when I went back to me old mining spots there – and they weren’t there any more!

Thankyou Teeshy, for taking the time to answer the questions and allowing the readers to know a little more about you.

If there are questions you would like to see asked, or a person you would like to see interviews please don't hesitate to contact me here, in game or on ICQ.
    Katlene.

DRAGONS ARE WIMPS! KNIGHTS? WHAT KNIGHTS?
    The citizens are revolting.
Why? The cause seems to be simple - the new breed of Dragons. Our intrepid reporter investigated. Then, we sent a less intrepid reporter out, wearing some armor this time.
Dragons. Now, personally, I like dragons. Keeping one in my dungeon has always meant that my tower was warm in winter, and opening random windows as passers-by came near was always good for a laugh.
However, the new breed of these beasts seem to have many people feeling rather unsettled.
To this, I say, good! Ye SHOULD be unsettled! Have ye not noticed yet where ye chose to make thy home?
I say these dragons need to be made even stronger! Faster! And untamable! Have them take flight, and descend on our towns!

Skin care specialists flock to Moonglow

Upon hearing of the dreadful plight of the berzerkers who wander about the streets of Moonglow, a contingent of [QWAK], that intrepid band of healers, physicians, and therapists, have descended on the dark side of that town.
"We cannot bear to see the poor beasts suffer so!" one noted dermatologist commented. "It is high time that Lord British did something about all the spilled poison potions in the rivers! Just look at this poor creature's skin! Won't someone think of the creatures?!?"

A rather confused looking spotty balron was brought forward at this point for demonstration purposes. Please pardon the blood stains on this report.

    Best Chest In The West?

A strange occurance, amidst the strange occurances that bedevil Moonglow of late, has come to our attention.
It appears that the treasure chests which the Dark Wisps occasionally carry with them has become sentient!
Aye, chests in large numbers have been mysteriously travelling upstream towards the dark portal, presumably in order to reach their ancient spawning grounds at the foot of someone's bed!

Our staff picture-imp painted this image.

    We're not sure why.
A little over two months past, Lord Py Lethius bade farewell to our fair land.

This, many may have thought, meant the end of The Knights of The Silver Serpent.
It is with great joy that I can tell you that it did not.
This past week, two of the most patient, longest suffering ladies that Siege has to offer, finally put aside their Initiates robes, and became soldiers of KSS! A small portion of the ceremony follows:

    "Initiate Angharad,
    Initiate Alizaren,
we have heard your oaths, and by Mithras, I bind them!
Thy old life is gone, put to death by thy own courage and virtue!
    You are reborn to Mithras!
Rise, Sisters of The Silver Serpent!"

The following speech was also given, by thy good editor and Knight Commander.
"As ye probably know, Lord Py Lethius has heard the call of an honorable quest
tis one that takes him to a strange land. One with little or no magic
One where his loved ones of the House of Lethius dwell
and where he will be focusing all his might on their care
That, to my mind, is more worthy a calling than any battle with dragons
or fighting back a thousand foes
But, he created something great in this land
he created a force for justice
He created, at one time, a sense of security in the minds of the weak
I remember when I was newly born into these lands
the relief that was felt when a wave of blue came crashing into those who would kill the weak
We are far from those days now
I cannot promise to return those days.
But, I can promise to try with all I have to give.
I am not Py Lethius. I can only aspire to be Py Lethius. I began as a crafter. He, as a warrior.
But, ye have my commitment, that, as long as I draw breath, The Knights of The Silver Serpent
    will never die."

*KSS will be starting to take applications for new initiates, should any be interested. Details can be found on this scroll.

    Tamer Palooza 2, Huge Success
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, April 13, 2008, 7:08 PM EDT by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
Tamer Palozza 2 was held this weekend by the Covenant of the Dark Moon (CTDM), bringing out the best tamers in the land to compete for gold. In order to win the tamers had to donate as many animals as possible to the Moonglow Zoo within two hours. Each animal was given a point value based off of the Zoo point system. The animals kept coming in every second!

Epona and Yalp of CTDM, and Wildstar of The Kingdom of Dawn, were on hand to award points and keep track of points as the long line of tamed animals were brought in. Lord Milandro took an early lead by taming numerous drakes, over 114 total in two hours time. The contest organizers were also on hand at the taming spots to make sure that everything was on the up and up.

    And the Winners are

First Place: Lord Miliardo of Spawner's Incorporated, SI
Second Place: Sun Tsu, United Tamers of Britannia, UTB
Third Place: Lord Conall Cernach, UTB

Shortly after the event, the award ceremony took place and the checks were awarded. A special thanks was given to the Mage Tower for gold donations and to Wildstar for helping to keep track of points. Once the winners were named, there was a pet parade through the City of Luna which ended at the city stables.

Special congratulations to Lord Milandro for winning first place, again!

Europa Zoo Filled Party - Project Zoo's Conclusion
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article

    >>> Trammel Facet News <<<

Apologies for the delay in getting this posted. So much has been going on in game recently and the real world has kept me busy too.

    ------------------------------------------------

On March 28th 2008 there was a party held to celebrate Europa achieving the unexpected and filling the zoo all the way to tier 11.

Project Zoo ran from the 14th to the 28th of March and was a huge success. Lots of people joined in the project and had lots of fun. At times it was hard and a good few times people lost all motivation that we could achieve such a thing. However members of the community kept picking everyone back up again and eventually it happened - The silver steed returned to Europa!

The achievement was extra special due to the fact the only two shards to reach the top recently were both European, showing that the community across Europe is the best there is.

The party was held in the corner next to the Silver Steeds pen, there was specially made food that was handed out as commemorative decoration for those in attendance.

Various guests turned out to see the Steed and to celebrate the occasion; here is a picture of just some of the guests that came along that night. We even had a very special guest come along on the night, Frarc from Drachenfels was the inspiration to kick start the zoo here on Europa and a few times he cheered us on in our quest. He came along especially to the party to congratulate us in person for what we had achieved.

As can be seen above the Silver steed is a little camera shy and hid in the trees while this one was taken. The evening was great fun the zoo was filled with the sounds of the various animals and lots of chatter from the guests. The conversations went on well into the evening until it was decided to leave the animals to rest in their newly refurbished zoo.

    ---------------------------------------------------

A big thank you to everyone that helped to make this happen, and a big well done to Petra for organising the party and making the lovely food that I know lots of people have proudly displayed in their houses.

This whole event was proof that when a community comes together that even near impossible things become possible, well done to the community for what you all did and lets hope we can do it again in the future.

As The Cherry Blossom Wilts, Luna To get a Food Court?, Faction/Guild Wars Spill Into Trammel

Posted on Sunday, April 13, 2008, 7:54 AM EDT by Lady Lava (GreatLakes)
Empire of Tokuno Tourney gives three hours of action!

The Blue Lotus Tournament Arena in Zento was the location of the Tourney. Though a Cherry Blossom Queen and King were crowned at the fashion contest the Tourney was the crowning jewel of the event and it lasted over three hours!

I arrived during the match between Malag aste and Lord Urich and a great match it was.

Lord Urich won this match and I was glad I took my seat on the upper level. Not only did one get a great view looking down but one also avoided getting any blood splattered on ones dress. I was wearing a new creation by Lady Mona Barrington and did not want to soil it.
For most of this event Lady FiFi LaForge of FCB sat to my left and Melian of MOA to my right.....one could not ask for any better company.

As I looked around I noticed the benches in the plot had been crafted by Homeless Boy and lanterns by Crafty Crystal. The decor only took second place to the patrons, many dressed to the nines as the three are below.

During this extremely long event many people came and went and others stayed the entire time. A few of those that visited and worked this event were, Grimm, Dark Drow, Aldrick, Tiber, Lord Cassius, Emily Evans, Micarlin Z'ress, Ariyana Sune, Timmigy, Max VonBayer, Abracadabra, Issek, Turkish, Oona, Alex Winters, Leviathan, Duncan Dunbar, Vendetta, Peter Cottontail, Lady Mist, Hanzo, vet, Trinity, Wicked Jester, Finder Of Beasts, Sammy, Key Suspect,Damon, Garrett, Katharina, Locke and Thalon VanDyke.

Bishimi did a fantastic job at introducing the warriors and entertaining the crowd. Late in the evening for some reason he also died but I am not sure how or why. He made a lovely blue corpse.

On the subject of fantastic jobs, Lord Anvil gave away an amazing amount of prizes for the UO history trivia that was peppered through out the entire event.

During these player run events often some of the most entertaining aspects is what the audience says and does. Temujin, a player seen often at MOA auctions and man about town, stated he thought Luna needed a food court. Luna has everything but a food court he stated. In real life Temujin claims he could spend an entire day in and around a food court. I love this idea of a food court in Luna.... only if we truly needed to eat.... and I wished our characters did.

Melian also informed me this wednesday at MOA all the items going on the auction block have been submitted by one person. The owner of the SC Malls in Luna has done some house cleaning and MOA will be showcasing it. An interesting concept.

During all this chatter the fights went on. On the topic of chatter a bird flew in my ear by the name of Spark, Spark of !BS! that is. He informed me there would be bloodshed outside the arena and he was correct. "Just keep ur eyes on the WTF people", he told me. Sure enough as time passed Spark could be seen outside on his purple horse in the middle of drama which ended with death on the streets of Zento!

One of my favorite fights was the match between Key Suspect and Akela.....it was in the ring with Akela as winner.

As the event wound down there were three warriors left and the call was for a Battle Royale between them.

It was down to Akela and Polynikes. These two train together often and know each others strengths and weakness. It was a long battle with Akela coming out as the big winner of the night!

Awards were handed out and congratulations to all that entered.

After more than three hours of fighting the Cherry Blossom Fashion Contest took place. The fights will be covered tomorrow in another article.

Many fashionistas showed up at the Zento bridge and not all entering the contest either. Oona, Melian and myself were this years judges.
LeuSi did a great job introducing us to the contestants and onlookers. She also did a fantastic job instructing and helping the contestants.

As the judges stood at one end of the bridge the models took to the bridges length as though it was a catwalk and did their best to impress, strutting to and fro infront of the judges and the cheering crowd.

This outfit made all the judges comment that he must be going through his " blue phase "

It was not an easy job for the judges with so much style and attitude. A choice had to be made however. All the clothes horses lined up one more time for the judges to review their efforts.

I am proud to announce this years King is Momochi , winning with his perfect " dash of color " and Gold Digger was crowned Queen, even though she was bare footed!

    Congratulations to you both!

Today there is much chatter from the powers that rule over our lands!

Word is that the near future will bring us changes to Factions and house placement, item turn ins and the War On Shadows.

Regarding the strange events that have plagued our lands and continue to do so, Draconi advises:

Current events will "forge a future where order and chaos are pitted once more against each other. Old and new enemies alike are reaching out to ensure Britannia meets her fate.

Everyone will be free to choose their alignments, and I’m sure the loyal Warriors of Destiny won’t be the only group to be titled for their deeds…"

My introduction to the Ultima Online Community was met with the same fanfare as Gallagher at a Kiwanis Club bake sale: “Sure I hear claims he’s entertaining, but I ain’t gonna clap for the same old watermelon/sledgehammer shtick! Show me something funny, boy!”

Yes, I am going to continue to state that we have big plans. What we have on the schedule for the next six months does not even begin to describe the amount of effort, creativity, passion, and downright ultra-engaging- sultry-deliberately mind-altering-should have swallowed-the blue pill, psyche-shattering, toe-sweating, eye-ball tearing goodness that we have in store.

We are on track for the Epic event still planned for the end of May. Given this, I want to announce our publish for April is light on bug fixes. The team is currently focused on a deluge of events to deliver during May culminating in the event mentioned above. However, do not despair. Draconi should be announcing a fairly tasty intervention planned for late April for all you adventuring addicts. However, we reserve the right to change our mind and fix anything we darn well please! You can’t stop us from trying to make a better game, so there!

On a side note, I’d like to say a quick hello to the UO team in Japan. Draconi, Kil, and I had a chance to go sit with the team for a week of embarrassing moments trying to speak Japanese, and Draconi translating that I “are noob.” Kilandra made him promise not to try to teach me anything else for the rest of the trip. While we were there, we had the honor of interviewing with Okata-san from 4gamer.net. The questions made us smile, as well as ponder the future of Ultima Online for Japan, and the international player base. Overall, I thank EA Japan for a fantastic stay and I will never look at an egg the same way again.

There is something else I learned in Japan, but I will save that for the end.

Next, I have two fairly serious topics that I’ve been addressing with the team here, and I’d like to share them with the community.

First, I’d like to hear boisterous applause for the crew that delivered Pub 51. The team right now is both growing and excited about what’s to come. It’s my responsibility to make sure they press forward while keeping perspective that we have a huge loyal community that deserves our response, and simultaneously insuring no one gets a shiv in the parking lot, because a fix didn’t make it into the client publish. (I’m kidding, there have not been any serious shiv incidents for at least three weeks). Given this, we’re striving toward perfection. Perhaps its that obsessive compulsive side of us that makes us gamers in the first place, but I can assure you, every one of us reads the boards almost fanatically. We heard the gnashing of teeth and screams from the lower balcony of Gehenna regarding Archcure. It was reverted, and we are still looking into the balance for that system. There are hundreds of similar gameplay fixes, bugs, and system design enhancements. Within reason we’d like many of them fixed and/or implemented to some degree. (With the exception of anything regarding lederhosen and mint jello because that’s just weird).

I’ve shown members of my team a small folder in my Outlook that has features from players that we are hoping “some day” (cue elevator music) we’ll implement. So please, keep writing. We’re watching. But, remember you catch more flies with honey and vodka, than just plain honey. Can you spell Stolichnaya? I knew you could.

Next, I’d like to share a quote I keep on my desktop. The context for this message is from a website at the time EA announced moving the team from Redwood Shores to Fairfax. The contributor cited a note from someone on the Ultima Online team who’d recently been released:

“… Business as usual, but you know it's that stinky EA business. While it's plausible Ultima Online will benefit from this move later down the road; thanks to more resources available under one roof, all the UO and DAOC devs doing quality assurance on Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, that sort of thing. One thing is certain and that is you can't replace a dedicated developer who worked on the project for years and poured everything they had and expect the same results from their replacement or non-replacement in some cases. I guess we can expect a skeleton crew for UO from here on out.”

The UO team covers four countries, and six times zones. Any team meeting we have, I must account for schedules in Japan, the UK, the West Coast, Texas (where time actually folds and gets bigger), and here in Fairfax. We have local, remote, and an extended team now in Asia. We’ve had one of the more significant publishes in seven months just days ago, a comprehensive plan that takes us through the next two years of development, an increase in player activity and subscribers, and increasing interaction with the community.

I’ve got your skeleton crew right here.

Now, for what else I learned in Japan. Okata-san from 4gamer.net shared a word that I tried to translate, and I will apologize now if I spell it incorrectly. The word (phonetically) is kai-ko-shugi. Loosely translated, it is that aspect of Ultima Online that pays homage to the “retro” or ‘old-school” game design when graphics were a bonus, and sound meant you listened to the Tom Cruise and Mia Sara movie Legend soundtrack on cassette tape while dungeon crawling. There is a reason Ultima Online, and the Ultima series are legendary. It’s the return to something indefinable, unquenchable, and epic because of the vision Richard Garriott had $250,000, a dream, and millions of players ago. So ten years later, we’re still here. For the person who released the above quote, good luck with your website … this skeleton crew will see you on the 25th Anniversary of Ultima Online.

Finally, what am I personally working on? *Girds himself with cast iron +2 flame retardant and troll repelling forum gear* I am working on uo.registration.com …

I KNOW!! It’s borked. Mesanna has taken to sending me every e-mail regarding the registration site. I missed an e-mail for a parent-teacher meeting within the deluge of e-mails … actually wanted to say thanks for that – I can’t stand those things. Anyway, I am doing what I can about the site and working with the powers “Who Be.”

In closing, thanks for sticking with us, wait your tip staff, and please safe drive homely

By now, many of you may have noticed the new banner splashing across the top of the uo.com site, Live Events 2008! I’m especially excited about our plans for this year, and even more so about the event arc we’ve just begun: Warriors of Destiny.

Based off the contents of Ultima V, in which Britannia and the Virtues are utterly betrayed, this event arc ties together many threads from our past and forges a future where order and chaos are pitted once more against each other. Old and new enemies alike are reaching out to ensure Britannia meets her fate.

Everyone will be free to choose their alignments, and I’m sure the loyal Warriors of Destiny won’t be the only group to be titled for their deeds…

    The 1st HLP Trade Caravan

Posted on Friday, April 11, 2008, 1:06 PM EDT by kayne (Europa)
    >>> Felucca Facet News <<<Last night saw the 1st ever HLP Trade Caravan. The proposed route was from Skara Brae docks all the way through the mountains and to the bridge in Britain.

Shortly before 8PM the participants met on the dock outside of Skara Brae, there was some light entertainment in the form of a smelly beggar named Scrumpy Jack of the Guild of Beggars (GoB) singing some song he had prepared especially. One of the beggars by the name of Mary began to harass your poor reporter and even had the cheek to spit on him.

Soon we set off amongst poison fields, paralyse fields and fire fields that the awaiting reds had already begun throwing in our path.

A large chunk of the caravan and its protectors began moving along in a large group all looking out on all sides for a sneaky red. It was at this point that a red twice killed your intrepid reporter. Well done to euthanasia for that (not sure if it was you both times or not)

A small section of the caravan then became separated and decided to move back until rejoining the main group. The group then moved onward toward the mountains where the attackers had already begun throwing down fire fields, poison fields and more paralyse fields.

Many mages in the group frantically began to cast spells to remove these obstacles from the path of the caravan. Eventually we made it through the narrow mountain pass and carried onward toward Britain and our destination.

Once at the bridge the caravan then turned back to Skara Brae to rescue the survivors of the battles that had raged while making our way to Britain.

The group became separated, probably misled by those treacherous road signs and only a small group continued on together, we made it through the mountains again before we ran into a group of reds lying in wait. It was during this ambush that Paidric took a few dirt naps

I then became separated along with Justice Forum of the Baronship of Cove (BoC) who ran along the road with me all the way to the dock. On arrival we met with others that had made it back.

The reds however didn’t have it easy. Even they took a dirt nap after trying to battle with the protectors of the caravan.

Once everyone had made it back it was determined that 4 of the 8 swords that had left Skara at the start had made it safely to Britain. Selina Leafsong kindly donated 3 million gold to the HLP guild as a reward, which will go towards helping the young that come into New Haven all the time. A further 1.5 million was given to the SAOR guild to help the young and returning players. SilberCatt of Chaos of Deception (CD) also kindly donated a further 500k gold per sword.

Rajak of [*NF*] had agreed beforehand to give a prize of 5 million gp to the person or guild that was most community minded. This prize went to the Sosarian Red Cross [SRC] for the spirit they showed in not only healing the protectors but also the attackers, it was given directly to Benjamin of SRC to distribute to the other members of his guild.

All in all a highly successful and fun event. Well done to all who participated.

    ------------------------------------------------

A big thank you to Paidric for organising the whole thing. Thank you to all the guilds that participated. It was refreshing to be a part of a great community event that took place away from trammel and that showed that not all reds trash talk and res kill.

Remember as well this event will be taking place again in roughly two weeks so look out for info on that. The official page for the caravan is: http://caravan.uosites.com

Thank you also to Petra Fyde and to Paidric for some of the screenshots used in this report.

    >>> Trammel Facet News <<<Hey hey fellow Catskillians!

I've received this message from Hawkeye Pike of the United Pirates:
Lock up yer treasure! Lock up yer wives! Lock all yer doors or ye won't stay alive! The biggest and oldest pirate crew on Catskills is on the loose again, plundering towns and ambushing tavelers and adventurers. The local authorities are helpless and have to rely on brave citizens to face the threat.

Detailed information about the United Pirates, their goals, and where to find them, can be gleaned on our website at:
    http://www.aschulze.net/ultima/pirates/

    Remark:
We encourage all roleplaying and non-roleplaying guilds to more interaction. This can cover common events, alliances and guild wars. We have a few rules for pvp (no mindless killing on sight, no looting), and our motto is: Keep it simple and make it fun!

We will celebrate our return by holding a FIGHTING CONTEST at our hideout, the Jolly Roger Inn in Trammel (see map for directions). On Saturday, April 12th at 5 pm EST (11 pm CET/European time), all pirates and pirate aspirants are invited to come to the Jolly Roger Inn to prove their combat abilities! We'll be holding a fighting contest to declare the most dreaded pirate. Our hideout will be re-furnished specifically for the event. The rules of the Pub Brawl are:

Ye cannot use own equipment! Armor and weapons of GM quality will be supplied, to make sure that not the pirate with the best artifacts wins.
Jewelry, talismans and other items improving yer fighting abilities are not allowed!
Ye can bring and use any kind and number of potions, and as many bandages and reagents as ye like.
No mounts! Hooves will ruin the floor boards of the inn! Fights will be held on foot.
Each participant will duel each! Last man (or woman) standig wins the fight. When we're through, the three best fighters will face each other in duels.
Any kind of fighting tactics are allowed! Whatever abilities yer skills offer may be used in the duel. However, ye may not leave the fighting area until the winner of a duel is determined.
The prize: Each contestant should pay an amount of at least 10,000 gold pieces into the combat cash box. (If someone can't afford that much, he can pay less. More rich pirates will compensate the rest.) The winner takes it all!
The winner of the contest will be granted the title "Swashbuckler", until he is beat by another pirate in the next Pub Brawl event.
If ye are late, ye still may join into our contest, as long as we haven't finished the first round (each fights each).

He included this map with the message:

Sounds like it may be a Jolly good time.

On a regular visit to Moonglow this morning, I discovered that the help we had been promised had finally arrived.
Nine guards and a fighter are standing watch around the rift

Captain Avery, of the royal Britannian guard is keeping vigil in the near by tent

Accompanied by some very much needed healers

So, I thought, Things must be looking up inside the rift!
I went through thinking everything would be a lot safer now only to be greeted with yet another monster!!

That’s right folks demon berserkers have ventured into the rift.
The purpose is unknown. Word about town is that they have been seeing attacking the other critters there.

Another unusual thing that I noticed is that the ex-detector is now in pieces and is moving around, it is very strange indeed.

Time will tell what is going to happen next and what these new discoveries mean.

There may be more combinations and clues to be learned, if you find one please post a response to the forums.

What more is in store for us who valiantly try to annihilate the enemy? How much longer do we strive to keep the horde from entering our plane? How do we close the rift? Do we close the rift?

AV's First Auction held on Friday was a great success!

With DJ Landon there from Whispering Rose Radio broadcasting live on air, it was a great night!

The auction kicked off with a trivia question, "What is the name of the new Dungeon Master in Doom?" Crystal Canyon was the first to shout out "GARY!" Winning her 100K! Congrats Crystal!

Then the unsavory auctioneer ICE got down to business.

After a few items were auctioned off, Pepper again set forth a challenge "Whoever the first person is to bring me some eggs wins 100K!" And the race was on! Anhkka was a speedy egg snatcher making herself the first to bring Pepper her eggs and making herself 100K richer! Congrats Anhkka!

Many great items were auctioned off, friends old and new alike had fun and the evening was a great success!

A big thank you to AV for a wonderful auction! I am looking forward to the next.

    The Moonglow Project: Blackrock Disaster
    By Chango

Time had finally caught up with Kronos and his Blackrock Detector. The city of Moonglow was crowded with onlookers as Kronos and his assistants, Melissa and Dexter, prepared to turn on the Detector.

    Kronos:

It is with great pride that I stand before you today.

Soon, we'll be able to focus intense magical energy in a small confined space.

I postulate that every single piece of blackrock in the world will be made unto us!

Imagine it! Soon, we'll be able to gather all of the blackrock we want and...

    Hop to it then, boy!

Did you seal the resonance chamber?

Did you double check the figures?

    Bet Wis Ex!

As the crowd waited in anticipation, Dexter flipped the switch...

    Kronos:

    Uh...

We'll be a few minutes folks.

Well wait now! Come back tomorrow! It'll work tomorrow!

And with that, the crowd went away disappointed. One onlooker was heard saying, "Nobody even caught on fire!"

What a tough crowd, I tell you.

The next night, as promised, Kronos and his crew were once again ready.

Kronos showed up and began his final checks.

    Kronos:

Is everything ready this time? Good.

Melissa was late, but she also made it.

Melissa: Did I keep you? I had some last minute business. Great.

She waved to the crowd that was easily double the size from the previous nights activity.

    Kronos:
I shan't keep you waiting a minute more.

    Bet Wis Ex!

The detector started up and began producing a great power. many in the crowd grew nervous.

    Something was going terribly wrong!

At first, it appeared we were standing in Moonglow and then the attacks began. We were being blindsided by Fetid Essence, Dark Wisp, and Fallen Warriors.

It was a slaughter! We tried to form some sort of organized resistance and had partial luck.

After some time we were able to clear some areas to regroup and think out our situation. It seemed we were in a mirrored rift of Moonglow. A globe of sorts.

All attention was soon focused at the detector where three great and powerful entities showed up. The Shadowlords.

Kronos and his mages appeared to be stopping them from accessing the rift caused by the detector. I tired to understand what was taking place...

The Shadowlords were talking to the mages.

    SL: Pitiful humans.

    Why do you resist so?

    We are eternal.

    Dexter: Master!

    SL: We are patient.

    We are stronger.

    Listen to us

    Kronos: Don't let them through!

SL: We mean you no harm.

    Yet resistance will be punished.

    Why do you fight?

Kronos: Hang on! The worst is almost over!

Just keep going! Help will be here soon!

    SL: Let it go.

    Melissa: Kronos,they are too strong!

SL: Free yourselves of your burdens

    Dexter: Yes master

    SL: Or die

    Peace is with us.

    Melissa: I'm ....I'm....

    Dexter: Don't....!

    Kronos: Melissa!

    Melissa: I can't hold it.

    Kronos: Melissa No!

    SL: Rest now

    You will know our strength

    You

    Die

The Shadowlord killed Kronos. The Timelord had arrived to assist in keeping the Shadowlords from leaving this plane, but Kronos was gone. Nothing could be done to help.

Timelord: From the shadows you came.. And to the shadows you shall return.

There was a big explosion and the Mages, the Timelord, and the Shadowlords were no longer present.

I took a few minutes to regain my senses. I exited the rift in hopes of clearing my mind.

The evidence of what took place was overwhelmingly obvious on this side of the rift.

My senses cleared, I headed back in to offer aid to those fighting the hordes still in the rift.

The armies in the rift were being dealt with until etheral forms of the Shadowlords appeared causing more destruction.

These forms of the lords, though weaker then their true form, were seemingly unbeatable. Somewhere, the idea of using blackrock against these lords started to be considered. Casting the Armageddon spell near these beasts greatly aided in their demise. Though the battles are being won, the war goes on.

New items have been found in this rift causing more confusion then answers.

And the most confusing are the threads of fate and life.

As I examined these threads, I felt them communicating to me.

I asked an old scholar friend for some help. He examined them but he did not feel the same as I did. We asked his pupil and he "heard" exactly what I did. It seems those who are talented in the Medium arts can detect this special force coming from the threads. Much to be learned, much to be discovered.

The battle within the rift goes on. I will bring more information as it arrives.

    Until next time...

Knights Journeys Rune Library Invites All

Knights Journeys Rune Library sits on waters edge in a lovely tree filled location. A peaceful beautiful place to study and view the books.
The cords to this library are 143o 26'S, 140o 25'W however runes will be dropped in popular locations today such as the Brit and Luna Banks marked with destination.

Aside from picking a pleasant location once you enter the library you notice much thought has been put into the design and decor of the building.

After spending some time checking out the books I ventured to the other floors. A special sash display caught my eye. Interesting objects and artifacts can found through out the building.

There were no chairs on the first floor and this old gals legs were getting a bit tired so I took a nice respite on the rooftop garden with peaceful calming water features as my mare Fiercy Von Fiercy nibbled on some grass. Be sure to check this locale out.

A crowd gathered around the black-rock detector once again.

The night was getting late and cold but all persevered, curiosity had gotten the better of everyone… What was going to happen?
As lightening rained down onto the detector, some were chatting among them selves, all predicting what was going to happen on this night.

Some had the same feelings as Inu, that it wasn’t going to go very well…

While others practised the power words needed to cast the Armageddon spell

After more waiting and more grumbling, Kronos the Mage meandered his way into the crowd and stood next to the detector, pondering if everything was ready this time around.

    Soon after, Melissa joined him.

And they began casting the spell
    “Bet Ex Wis!!”
    Kronos chanted.
No sooner had the last whisper of breath left his mouth; the Black-rock detector sprang to life.

A dark green pulsating orb surrounded the spike and throbbed its way back up and down, while colourful waves of energy washed towards the crowd that stood by watching in awe.

The orb then changed colour to a deep red, which seemed to surprise Kronos, things went downhill from there.

    Everything began to go haywire.

    Darkness descended upon us.

We were able to see again briefly, some noticed the detector had turned a bright white

Then everything began to turn white, and panic ensued.

But, as quick as it all happened, it stopped.
For a moment everyone looked around at each other wondering what was wrong, Unanimously everyone realised that we weren’t in our Moonglow any more, we’d all been transported to another time.
Without much time to think and absorb what had happened, a noise pierced the silence and echoed around the buildings…
    ‘bzzzzzeeeew’

Heads darted around, that’s when it was realised that the place was swarmed in beings that didn’t want company.
Fetid Essences blobbed their way towards the crowd behind them dark wisps could be seen dancing around and the strong unique flap of fallen warrior wings could be heard coming closer and closer

All the people disbanded and groups went off in all directions to take on these new enemies

Death was swift for many warriors, but there was always someone nearby to help those in trouble.
Tamers came out in great numbers, most bringing with them the newly discovered greater dragons, which proved to be a fine weapon against the monsters.

Those that could looted the beings they had slain and discovered some new treasures!

And some more were discovered only in the corpses of the dark wisps, they are threads of both life and fate. Not much is known on these as yet, but there are rumours that those with the skill to speak with spirits can hear words whispering from them.

As people made their way through the dead bodies, and expanded their hunt to the north, they discovered another monster, this one a bit more ominous then the others.
It was a Shadowlord! But this one was different, not like the ones we had seen in the past.

Even with the confusion, the brave went forth and slaughtered the being, towards the end all those near by were enveloped in an explosion of sorts then the shadowlord was dead.

For a lucky few, they were bestowed with a Cloak of Corruption

How lucky varies from person to person, as this cloak is cursed, and it slowly drains your health. So it is not recommended to wear for long periods of time.

As the battles continue, and the citizens of Britannia remain clueless to what’s happened, they keep fighting with only the courage and might found on Oceania.

It has been confirmed that Kronos the mage was killed when the explosion happened, and everyone is warned not to venture through the time rift.

Due to the threat that this rift imposes, the Britannian military have set up post just out side the portal, they are not stopping anyone from entering but strongly advise against it.

    A declaration has been release from the Royal Britannian Guard;

Attention citizens of Moonglow, the greater Britannian kingdom, and visitors. A state of emergency has been declared in the township of Moonglow, currently under attack by forces unknown. We do not advise volunteerism in the city’s defence, but under these incredible circumstances we will not interfere with attempts to enter the rift we are now guarding.

A medical station is already under construction. All contact with entities within the rift should be met with extreme prejudice. Experience has shown that nothing within has attempted any form of communication – only vicious attacks resulting in numerous deaths.

Please report any and all information gathered to myself, Captain Avery.

Things seem dire. But nothing will get past the strength of the Oceanian community!

    Jeremy Dalberg

A few perennial favorites - mining, leeches, RoT - plus some cool new player events round out this week's article.

"I have recently been using a weapon that has all three leeches. I have noticed that only one of these leeches can work for each hit. Is this truly how it is working, or am I just imagining things? And if it does work this way, is this intended?"

Leurocian checked the code, then hopped on a test server to check, and it appears that all three leeches will work at once. However, Stamina is calculated differently than the other two, and will give bigger returns, so if you're not looking carefully it may well appear that the other ones aren't working.

"For us learning impaired, what causes a resource field to change? Say, ore zones. Does the zone need to be worked, or is there a chance it will change when it is "refreshed" without it even being touched?"

There are two ways for ore (or wood) zones to refresh: when the zone is mined (not necessarily mined out, just mined,) it has a chance to reroll its resource type. At this point, it sets a timer. After that timer is up, the next time it is mined, it has a chance to reroll again. (The timer prevents it from cycling too fast.) The second way is a general chance that affects the entire subserver, and that is unpredictable - so even if a vein is never mined, it may still switch ore types from time to time.

"Can we ever get the RoT system adjusted/removed/looked at on Siege?"

(For non-Siege players, the RoT - Rate over Time - system is a method of limiting how fast players can gain skill on Siege-ruleset shards.)

This is something that has long been requested, and is definitely something we'd like to look at. I checked with the various Lords and Ladies of the Schedule, and it looks like we're not going to have time to get any changes in for the next publish, but I will continue to to bring it up for a publish after that. In the meantime, if you have specific opinions about the RoT system, send me feedback!

"Why am I getting an error message when I try to cast Spirit Speak?"

We believe we've fixed one possible cause of this, but if you're finding yourself unable to cast Spirit Speak, please page a GM and they can fix you - and also figure out what we've missed!

    What's To Come:

If you haven't been by Moonglow lately, check it out! Meanwhile, the wheels are turning on the next publish, and we'll be talking in more detail about that over the next few weeks as the changes and fixes roll in.

Gates start at 7:50 at Brit bank. Dont forget about the battle royale at the end of the night... one for Cu Sidhes and one for all others."

Remember, if you want your event or news item included in the FoF, send it to jdalberg AT ea DOT com. Also, if your event is ongoing (like Chicken Fight Club, above) and you'd like me to run it two weeks in a row, just say so. After that, there will be a two-week cooldown, and then you can resubmit the event for another two weeks. This policy is subject to change if this section starts getting overrun, but for the moment, that's how it will work!

Several of you have noticed that the last couple of weeks haven't had five traditional questions. This is because my stock of gameplay questions has gotten awfully thin - please replenish it! If it continues to be tricky to find questions we can answer, I will continue to try to find other content and features to fill out the FoF so you feel like you're getting your click's worth - requests and suggestions are always welcome!

Word had spread throughout the lands that the blackrock detector was completed and ready to be unveiled thanks to the meticulous work of Kronos and his group of assistants.
People from all over flocked to see what had been under the curtains at Moonglow, no one taking heed of the old saying. Curiosity killed the cat

Minutes ticked by, everyone pushing and shoving each other to get a close look at this strange contraption that stood before them.
Without any warning the blackrock detector was engulfed in flames!

Once they had cleared, and the sting was gone from everyone’s eyes, they all noticed that Draconi, the legendary arcanist was standing on the edge of the detector.

When the gasps and murmurs died down, Draconi told everyone what to expect over the next few days.

He then asked for everyone to move back away from the machine so that the mages could work their magic

As soon as a clearing had been made, Kronos, Director of Alchemical Studies elbowed his way through the crowd.

He introduced himself and gave a speech on what he hopes to accomplish…

Ladies and gentlemen, It is with great pride that I stand before you today. Soon, we’ll be able to focus intense magical energy in a small confined space.
I postulate that every single piece of blackrock in the world will be made known to us!
Imagine it! Soon, we will be able to gather all of the blackrock we want and…
    Boy! It’s time!

One of Kronos’s apprentices stepped out of the crowd to help with the last minute checks on the machine.

Did you seal the resonance chamber?
Did you double check the figures?

Kronos then commanded the apprentice to flip the switch on the contraption. The machine hummed to life and Kronos promptly said the words to invoke the power of the detector

Waves of energy swept out from the machine and some sort of orb pulsated on the pike.

The blackrock detector creaked, groaned and rattled violently before erupting in a great puff of black smoke

When the smoke cleared another oddity appeared in the form of a black rift with a beam of darkness shooting upwards as far as the eye could see.

The middle of the detector then caught fire.

And sent a wave of explosions which went out towards the now terrified crowd. (All but Lindae, who seems thrilled with the pyrotechnics)

The stunned audience stared open mouthed at the machine and its maker not knowing what to make on either.

The very flustered Kronos ummed and ahhed then decided to tell everyone to come back tomorrow, because it will work then.
Everyone just shrugged, some grumbling about their time being wasted and all wandered off to bed and some to fight off their frustrations.

    Until the next chapter...

Thanks to Ged for the pictures, and to Sherriden

    The Battle In Moonglow Continues

Posted on Thursday, April 3, 2008, 5:10 PM EDT by AilishD (NapaValley)
As most know by now, much has happened in Moonglow in recent days. After the failed attempt to engage the Blackrock Detector on Friday, there was a second attempt on Saturday, resulting in the opening of a rift to an alternate Moonglow filled with a variety of dangerous entities that appear to be under the influence of the Shadowlords, who occasionally appear.

Reports have come from the BNN that Kronos was slain and that one of his assistants is now missing. The military has arrived and there are now cannons and a command tent near the rift, although actual military presence seems a bit slow in arriving.

Many are reporting finding objects of interest on the corpses of slain creatures inside this rift. There are Planeswords and Planeshields that the use of have yet to be determined. There are Threads Of Life and Threads Of Fate that appear to have some use, as the Necromancers of Umbra have reported receiving unusual messages when attemting to use them; however it is yet unclear what these messages mean. There are also the unusual Cloaks Of Corruption, which seem to allow the wearer to gain mana, and possibly life and stamina, but they are very damaging, leeching these things as well. Again, the true usefulness of these seems as yet unknown.

Over the weekend it was learned that Blackrock combined with the Armageddon spell could be used to slay the Ethereal Forms of the Shadowlords when they appear, and many explosions were seen.

The fine people of Napa have banded together in fighting these entities, some directly entering the battle, others acting as much needed field medics outside the rift. The murmur is that we will not allow our Moonglow to fall to the Shadowlords and their minions!

    Military Arrives in Moonglow
    Draconi Apr 3 2008 9:08AM

Early this morning a blockade of cannons was erected around the crater in southern Moonglow. Captain Avery, himself on scene, tersely ordered our correspondents back and had little to say directly to us. However, contrary to expectations, the military is not stopping ordinary (albeit well-armed) citizens from entering the rift!

Despite refusals to comment on the situation, the BNN has been asked to publish a short declaration from the Royal Britannian Guard, which follows:
Attention citizens of Moonglow, the greater Britannian kingdom, and visitors. A state of emergency has been declared in the township of Moonglow, currently under attack by forces unknown. We do not advise volunteerism in the city’s defense, but under these incredible circumstances we will not interfere with attempts to enter the rift we are now guarding.

A medical station is already under construction. All contact with entities within the rift should be met with extreme prejudice. Experience has shown that nothing within has attempted any form of communication – only vicious attacks resulting in numerous deaths.

Please report any and all information gathered to myself, Captain Avery.
The BNN also regrets to inform our readers that we’ve confirmed the death of Kronos, leader of the blackrock detector project. Dexter, his field apprentice, disappeared shortly after returning to Moonglow from the rift with master mage Sutek, who arrived at the scene after the disaster. The fate of Melissa, friend and fellow mage of the local council, is currently unknown.

We will continue informing our readership about this calamity as details pour in.

The fate of Melissa, friend and fellow mage of the local council, is currently unknown.

We will continue informing our readership about this calamity as details pour in.

BNN: Military Arrives In Moonglow Military Arrives in Moonglow

Blackrock Detector Fails! Mages Reported Missing!

    Draconi Apr 2 2008 8:24AM

Events took a terrifying turn in Moonglow this weekend as Kronos, Director of Alchemical Studies, turned on his blackrock detecting machine for the second, and apparently, very last time. Witnesses reported a keening, rushing sound enveloping the crowd amidst magical flares, when suddenly those standing closest to the machine disappeared in a flare of light!

The remaining onlookers had only a moment’s warning before an explosion ripped through the machine itself, leaving a gaping hole where hundreds had gathered just seconds before. Our own reporter vanished in the initial chaos, leaving the BNN with little to go on for hours as a much more apprehensive crowd began gathering around the smoldering crater.

Their wait wasn’t in vain, however, when after a while a moongate, as dark as night, opened at the base of the crater. Frenzied survivors began pouring out of the portal; screams for healers and aid rang up over the ridges as they clambered up the sides. Against all reason more jumped back into the darkness, but the BNN was already confirming details on what lay beyond with our own correspondent.

We know for certain that the place beyond the rift resembles our own Moonglow, yet is infested with hordes of demonic entities. We also know that one or more of the mages working on the project, Kronos, Melissa, and Dexter, were killed within. The others, if any survive, are missing.

The rift apparently leads not to a “place” so much as a “when.” The local mages are struggling to explain this phenomenon, but claim that the rift is bound to the failure of the experiment the previous day, and has captured some slice of time in which the good people of Moonglow were trapped.

The BNN is also attempting to corroborate reports that some sort of battle took place within the so-called “timerift” between the Time Lord, and other beings of extraordinary power. We’ve also received word that the military is sending reinforcements to secure the perimeter of the gate.

We urge our readers to be wary of the rift, and not enter it under any circumstances!

    Blackrock Detector A Deadly Disaster
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 7:05 AM EDT by Sheridan_of_ElF (Pacific)
    >>> Trammel Facet News <<<

By late morning, word had spread like wildfire throughout every facet of every shard. At long last, the infamous Blackrock Detector would finally see the light of day, thanks to the diligent work of its creator, Kronos and his crew of learned assistants. In every tavern and every vendor shop, down the back alleys, in homes both rich and poor, on guildhouse steps and everywhere in-between, the people of Pacific were chattering excitedly about the hopeful news. All this talk of blackrock had reawakened in me an acute curiosity that I could stand no longer. In my travels, I had acquired and ferreted away a fair stash of the bizarre, obsidian colored ore and locked it all away in a magically protected chest, tightly sealed and out of sight in a back room of my Felucca tower. After hearing tales of other citizens going mad from exposure to it, even so far as to be considered "infected" by the stone's curious aura, I wanted nothing to do with blackrock. But now... hearing the excited rantings and ravings of those who had tinkered and experimented with the ore since then was tempting enough, but was nothing compared to what was being whispered in the darker circles I was known to frequent. Claims of extraordinary powers, fantastic revelations and incredible wealth were what beckoned the adventurous, rogue spirit within me.

Recalling home from the Shattered Skull tavern, I entered my stony fortress, mounted the stairs and approached the door to my storage room. I was filled with an unusual trepidation, but my curiosity (and the brewed beverages I had consumed for breakfast) refused to let me give in to cowardice. Tentatively, I unlocked and pulled open the heavy door for the first time in months, nose wrinkling at the stale air I had disturbed. I pulled a torch from its holder on the wall, murmured some Words of Power and oil-soaked light flared to life, repelling the oppressive darkness. Pushing aside a few exceptionally crafted wooden crates, I grasped the handle of the heavy chest I sought and pulled it out into the torchlight. The magic lock was disspelled and the lid tossed back, the finely tinkered hinge squeaking only slightly from the effort.

The breath caught in my throat as my eyes settled on the malevolently glittering chunks of black ore piled inside the velvet lined chest. My head swam as I looked upon dozens of chunks of blackrock, ranging from tiny fragments the size of a gold coin to larger, heavier rocks... some exceeding 25 stones in weight. Hefting a medium sized piece in my hand, I held it close to the torch to examine it, but the strange ore seemed to absorb the meager light. I paused to reflect on the intriguing conversation I had overheard in the tavern earlier in the day...

"Ye want t'have a good time, mate?" The odd offer was met by a raised eyebrow. "Name's Afzal and a hundred k o' gold'll get me to spill my secret..." The shady informant kept his voice low to keep nosy tavern patrons from overhearing, but failed to notice me, safely hidden in the shadows nearby. The man to whom this one was speaking murmured something that sounded like 'Cecil' and nodded his agreement to the terms. His half lidded eyes did not seem to register neither the cost nor even the conversation, but Afzal plowed onward. "Get yerself some o' that blackrock they be talkin' about, mate. Make sure no'buddy's watchin' you an' say these words 'ere out loud." From an inner pocket, he produced a small bit of paper and slid it across the table to the slightly more alert Cecil. The burly soldier stared blankly at the sheet for a few moments before he crumpled it in his meaty fist and tossed it back at Afzal.

"You buffoon!" Cecil bellowed. "Ah'm no mage!" Afzal fell back out of his chair, eyes wide and looking wildly between the crumpled secret that had bounced off his forehead and onto the floor and the exit. The greedy fool of course went for the paper, but a well placed kick from the shadows from yours truly sent him instead sprawling right into the beligerent warrior sparking a rather lopsided brawl. By the time Cecil finally managed to heave his considerable weight off of poor Afzal, I was already sneaking my way out the back of the tavern and onto the safety of my small dragon boat parked nearby.

Returning to the present, I reached into my tunic, pulled out the still crumpled page and unfolded it onto the cold, flagstone floor. Sure enough, as any apprentice mage could easily discern, Words of Power were scribbled in a runic script across the page. Despite my extensive teachings and training in Magery, I did not recognize this particular spell, but I was confident I had the skill to cast it. Closing the lid on the rest of the blackrock stash and sliding the chest away a safe distance, I stood and placed the chunk of ore at my feet. I swallowed hard, willing away the wave of dread crashing upon me and took a few deep breaths. Clearing my head, I finally spoke aloud the Words of Power that would eventually be my very undoing...

"Vas Kal An Mani In Corp Hur Tym!"

I barely recall the explosion or being subsequently tossed backwards into the unforgiving stone wall, but the strange energies that enveloped me before I blacked out are fresh in my mind even now. Well, when I at last had come to, I found nearly an entire day had passed! Stopping just long enough to shove a few pieces of blackrock into my pocket, I hurried off towards Trammel, nearly late for the big show in Moonglow.

    ***

Townsfolk and outsiders alike turned out at the curtained construction site in Moonglow in countless droves...
hundreds of curious and concerned citizens from all walks of life converging early to eagerly await the
unveiling. As the hour approached, the crowd grew restless, elbowing and pushing for a perfect
view of the diabolical contraption on the lawn just east of the town's inn.

The overcrowding grew dangerously close to getting out of hand and
the mysterious being called Draconi appeared in a dazzling display of
light. Urging the cantankerous crowd to back away from the machine
to give Kronos and his assistant ample room in which to work, Draconi
had little luck convincing the crowd with just his words alone.

When the crowd was hesitant to comply for fear of losing a front row seat,
Draconi lend a friendly but firm hand in freeing up some room.

Shortly after the barrier had been formed, a cheer arose as Kronos politely nudged his way through the
crowd to stand before his masterpiece of engineering. After some brief introductions and explanations of
what he hoped to accomplish, the Director of Alchemical Studies was ready to get down to business...

A young apprentice stepped forward from the crowd to assist Kronos with a last minute check of the machine.
Once everything looked to be in order, Kronos called for everyone to step back and commanded the assistant to flip
a switch. The machine hummed to life and Kronos called out the Words of Power to activate what appeared to be
the power source of the Detector, which began to rapidly spin and whirl. Colorful waves of mysterious energies washed
outward from the core and a high pitched sound began to grow in volume. Everyone around the perimeter first took one
step and then another panicked step backwards when the machine suddenly lurched and pitched violently before rumbling
to a disturbingly motionless stop, much to Kronos' dismay. The shocked crowd gawked and stared at the
machine and its maker, equally puzzled with both.

Visibly flustered and frustrated, the Head Mage for the project promised the
next day would undoubtedly be a success before hastily recalling away.

Angry and disappointed, the gathered mob began to fight among themselves and all but refused to leave,
incredulous that hours waiting had been for naught. It was several hours more before everyone finally,
albeit reluctantly, abandoned the broken machine, many feeling dejected and somehow cheated.

The next morning, after a night of ceaseless tossing and turning, I awoke with a dull ache,
presumably from my blackrock induced encounter with the wall the previous day...
At least that was what I thought before the voices started to haunt me.

Unable to shake the strange sensations and creepy voices, I instead
headed out early to Moonglow, eager to occupy my mind otherwise.
A newly constructed fence and posted guards was hardly an obstacle
for me and I stealthily maneuvered past both with a Shadowjump.

What a difference a day makes... there
appeared to be some sort of electrical disturbance
emanating from the machine. I dared not get too close.

As the crowd began to assemble once again, Inu the Crone,
babbling incomprehensibly and nonstop, wandered over to entertain us.

Cheery sentiments and positive outlooks from some of the eventgoers.

A staggering assembly, nearly half an hour from the start of the event.

    -Dragon Parking Only-
All Others Towed at Owner's Expense

I wonder how that turned out for her...

A slightly less enthusiastic greeting for Kronos the Mage and his lovely assistant Melissa. As before,
Kronos had barely finished greeting the crowd before jumping right to business and casting his spell.

"Bet Ex Wis!" cried Kronos. The machine began to hum and gyrate as it did the night before. More colorful waves of energy
flowed freely, accompanied by alternating flashes of incredibly bright light and moments of impenetrable darkness.

A crackling of pure energy startled everyone and time slowed to a crawl, freezing everyone in place.
As the light faded to blackness a final time and the crowd's yelling blended into a silence which roared
in my ears, I felt a distinct sensation of falling, faster and faster... I thought I was as good as dead...

Instead, my vision slowly returned and I was surprised to see we hadn't moved an inch.
But something was wrong... something was not quite right. The sky was an odd hue
and the air far too still for this time of year. The town and the crowd was eerily quiet,
but soon astonished whispers became terrified, panicked screams.

Horrific creatures descended upon us swiftly and without mercy. Demon berserkers, winged fallen
warriors, fetid essences and dark wisps tore through the crowd with a chilling and ruthless efficiency.

Taking advantage of the chaos, I disappeared into the crowd and snuck away hidden in the shadows.
I made a beeline for the south gate intending to hit the nearby moongate, but that plan was dashed to pieces
when I discovered the world ended just a short distance outside of town. Once I finally regained my shaky
composure, I noticed the same held true for each of the remaining gates... Trapped with nowhere to run.
    What was going on here?

I deftly dodged any confrontations with the bizarre denizens of this world, and while
watching the slaughter, I came to suspect this was not the Moonglow I knew. The over-
whelmed army of unwilling participants in this crazy nightmare steadily began to regain
ground and fight back the relentless assailants. Attempting to rejoin the others at the center
of town, I was stopped in my tracks by the sudden slowing of time along with that
nauseating feeling of falling again... Where were we headed this time?

Strangely enough, we returned to where we had so abruptly departed... Wandering over to the field next to
the inn, I expected to see an angry Kronos hunched over his machine that had spiraled out of control. I was
stunned when I saw instead a massive crater where the Blackrock Detector once stood and a bizarre portal.
I began to piece things together with others and we concluded that we had been trapped in a sort of alternate,
"mirrored" version of Moonglow... one that was still under siege by hordes of vicious beasts. Either brave
or foolish, (or both) hundreds of people returned through the corrupted rift back to the mirrored city
in search of treasure or out of duty and Honor.

An adventurous soul tinkers with a bit of blackrock and the Armageddon spell
in the alternate Moonglow and summons a blue wisp.

A plan is formulated, even amid all the chaos.

Normally one to back away from overwhelming odds such as these, I found
myself and my courage bolstered by the valiant efforts of the few brave souls
who were fighting off dozens of the encroaching berserkers.

    Why am I not surprised?

Slowly, but surely, the tide turns and the berserkers begin to fall
to our persistent earthshaking and terrible jokes.

All joking ceased when a cry from the battlefront
chilled everyone to the bone. Shadowlords?!
Surely they were mistaken... right? Wrong.

Even the demon berserkers were unsettled by the appearance of ethereal Shadowlords and broke off
their assault on us to kill the fearsome entities, who died in massive blasts of energy and dark smoke.
Seemingly unaware of the danger these Shadowlords possessed, a citizen charged straight at one,
holding a piece of what looked like blackrock in front of him like a protective talisman. As he
reached the Shadowlord, the surely dead man cried out an incantation... It was the arcane
spell known as Armageddon! The Shadowlord screeched in agony and crumpled lifelessly
at the feet of the valorous knight who retrieved the Shadowlord's cloak for a trophy.

Envious of the trophy, I stealthed off into the woods to find my own,
despite the danger. It did not take long before I found one engaged in
battle with a berserker demon. Sneaking up behind the cloaked terror,
my blood ran cold and I barely managed to get the words out...

So stunned by the violent reaction and tremendous explosion
that I found myself rooted in place and nearly killed as the
ethereal shadowlord recoiled and and struck out mightily.

I immediately fled the Shadowlord's wrath, whipped around the side of a building
and hid there, trembling in the shadows. Once I had caught my breath, I risked a peek
around the corner. I cheered silently to myself as I witnessed the berserker striking a
lethal blow to the weakened Shadowlord with its bloodsoaked sword. Even before the
felled horror had collapsed to the ground, the berserker was off in search of another victim.

That was fine with me as I had what I came for. After donning the cursed cloak,
I felt the life draining from my body... but yet, at the same time, my mental acuity
was clearly heightened and mana consumed in spellcasting was quickly replenished.
Worn out and beat down, I retired for the evening to browse my loot. In addition
to the cloak, there were a few other items of interest that I plucked from the
corpses of the dead like threads of Life and Fate from dark wisps...

...and numerous oddly hued planeswords and planeshields from the fallen warriors.
I have yet to discover a use for any of these strange items, but I have heard that the
threads of Fate and Life have some deeply hidden meaning that only the spirit-
speaking Mediums of Sosaria can decipher... Should anyone discover
any other secrets or interesting tidbits, please share them!

Returning to the corrupted rift after a night of much needed rest, I found that the battle between the ethereal
creatures and the demon berserkers had wildly swung in the former's favor. Most intriguing. I shall certainly
keep an eye on this most mysterious place, as I expect the rest of the concerned citizenry to do...

If any among you, the readers, would like to share their experiences or artistic renditions of what they
have encountered in this alternate Moonglow, feel free to flag me down if you see me out and about.
Otherwise, I can be reached by those strange communications devices called "ICQ" and "email"!

A nice peaceful warm Wednesday morning, I was enjoying the quiet when a call came out...
"Come and look at the Luna moongate!! It's gone all...funky"
With all the bizarre things happening lately I thought I’d better go check it out as well.
What I saw, was not something I expected at all!!
    The gate had changed colour!

And has been declared out of order!

I checked out other gates and they were all in the same state.

I was told that it was not working earlier, but on further inspection, it is working again now. It seems someone forgot to take the sign down.
