BNN: Valvakka | ||
Posted on Friday, June 27, 2008, 12:12 PM EDT by Larisa (CommunityNews)
The great beast was confused, and when it was confused, it got angry. The large dragon of the dungeon Destard, as the Britannians called it, was focused on the small man that had suddenly appeared through a dark hole just a few feet away from him. For his part, the stranger from the portal was surveying the dragon-infested dungeon with a growing smile. He felt like a young one again, the feeling of adrenaline coursing through his veins being something truly rare and wonderful. He would have been shaking with excitement if not for his training. "How kind of you all to be here; waiting for me," Valvakka spoke aloud to the nearby dragons that were now gathering to investigate his appearance. He knew their pathetic minds could barely understand him, perhaps considering him a mere morsel for their afternoon meal. Valvakka whispered long forgotten words of power and focused his energy. A yellowish red rain began to rush down from the ceiling of this cavern. The dragons, having never seen anything like it before, arched their heads upwards, watching as it descended to them in meteoric streaks. Scales and claws smoldered with each touch of the liquid fire from above. It burned hotter than the inferno of the depths – showering everything in sight. The few dragons that managed to run free from the deluge of crimson death were met by Valvakka’s halberd. He seemed to know their every move. Valvakka was slaying each escaping dragon with ease, taking great pleasure in their deaths as if satisfying some old vendetta. Taking a moment to admire his work - he felt a new presence closing in... "A human." Valvakka acknowledged his thought in words as he turned to face the intruder. "How utterly despicable..." Valvakka thought as he saw the adventurer standing at the ready with his "dragon" companion, this new pair looking ready to engage Valvakka at any moment.

LS Rares Festival Report
Posted on Thursday, June 12, 2008, 10:41 PM EDT by AirmidCecht (LakeSuperior)
LS Rares Festival Report While the last remnants of visitors traveling from other shards have gone along with many goods bought and sold to be sure, there is much to reflect on with the rares festivals hosted by citizens of Lake Superior the first weekend of June. DVI was the main sponsor of the events, playing host to many collectors anxious to gather in one place. I managed to stop by at various times over the weekend and always found a person or two browsing the vendors set up for this occasion outside the west gates of Luna. I managed to purchase an item or two with my meager earnings though the wyrms heart was a tad out of my budget. Sometime during the early days of the festival word spread that DVI had a thief enter his home in Luna. By DVI’s own words it was an easy target with an unsecured chest. He made a public message asking for his items to be returned no questions asked in hopes of making contact with this person. Soon after a letter made of newspaper and magazine clippings in response was seen: He admitted with grace his stand on being a rouge and scoundrel always on the look out for the unaware. He paid compliment to DVI as a good passionate player but also one who did not take the care needed to secure his belongings. An offer was made or perhaps it was a dare? Words were exchanged and for a ransom DVI had his belongings returned to him. Many may see this man, who signed his name in red crayon as Clyde, as someone with no honor but to be sure some honor to the original feel of this world was paid homage too. We become carefree sometimes in our security and a reminder as this is not always a bad thing. Of course this can be said now that DVI was able to reclaim his items albeit for a price. All is well that ends well. One of the final events set up for everyone’s enjoyment was the Scavenger Hunt hosted by Lady Magdalene of YGV. Upon arriving we each received a book of clues with which to gather the items needed. We also needed to talk to various helpers who asked further questions in order to get to the next item. It was a very well thought out process that challenged each player. I asked player Chak if I could accompany him on his quest for items and document his journey. He did very well at each check point and while working together my hope was he would finish in time to receive a reward. We first were asked to find a nice green healthy tea which brought us to Zento. From there we were off to Yew Winery for a shroud and then off to find a few friends with clues and riddles. Each player had a different question to answer in order to get a book to their next clue. I won’t give away the questions just in case they are needed for future events but a few pictures never hurt anyone! The winners were: 1st Meliadoul Tingel Rubble Bench 2nd Demonous Soulstone token 3rd Chak Advance Char Token 4th Scarlet Luna White dye 5th Blissmarie Proxymous Dragon Everyone else after the 5th got a 250k check for finishing the hunt! I wish to extend a hearty thank you and a welcome matt at the LS moongate for all who wish to return to our shard. It was great meeting players and learning more about the rare items of each shard. Thank you DVI for putting this together and to all who made it a festive event….including Clyde *grins*

Chaos Erupts In Britain!
Posted on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 6:19 PM EDT by Blackrock_Frank (Catskills)
That headline got your attention, eh? Now we're talking! After quite a long break (due to imps in the works), here's the latest news. Massive numbers of citizens are flocking to Onoe the Soldier at Castle Britain. They are going there and placing green tickets in a chest. Wondering if this was a lottery I had not been notified of, I asked Onoe what was going on. "It's time to clean up the Kingdom," Onoe said with a sigh, "and it is my duty to sit here and give out rewards for those who turn in these tickets." Onoe allowed me to look through the items, and he had quite a number on hand. There was everything from replicas of Sherry the Mouse to trees to fine pieces of armor and the most magnificent set of jewelry I had ever seen. "Someone would be incredibly lucky to have those pieces," I said as the ring sparkled. "Yes, I'm sure they're all wonderful, but can I share a secret with you?" he asked. "Of course," I replied, "I won't put it in print." "My posterior really hurts!" said Onoe. "I've been sitting here for weeks, day in and day out. It's exciting to see the happy faces when the folks receive their rewards, but I could really use a gypsy massage right about now." "If I get a nice gypsy lady to come visit you, will you tell me where those tickets come from?" I asked. "Sure!" he exclaimed, and a smile finally came to his face. "Check with Yonns. Behind the bank." "Great. That gypsy will be on her way shortly. You'll know when you see her, she'll be the one wearing the..." I darted out the door. As if I'd pay a gypsy to give a guard a back rub. Heh. Thinking Onoe had an appropriate name, I made my way down to the bank where a small crowd was throwing items at a man who obviously was overwhelmed. He had turned himself away from the crowd, staring at a wall, trying to avoid the throng. "Hey there, are you Yonns?" I shouted. "Let me guess, you want some tickets," he replied. "Sure, if you're giving them away," I answered. "You have to trade something for them, fool!" "How about I not wither you where you stand? How's that for a trade?" "Um..." he said, sizing me up. As always, my opponent backed down when overwhelmed with my confidence, charm, and mandrake cologne. "What I mean is, you're supposed to help clean up the Kingdom by giving me items that you don't want. I'll give you a ticket if you don't kill me, but if you want more you'll have to bring me things." Accepting a ticket that was marked for 100 points, I looked at the crowd around me. They were handing the trader treasure maps, power scrolls, artifacts, even holiday gifts! Every one of them was receiving tickets, which they would then take to Onoe. I started thinking about all of the useless things my brother has saved in his tower. "I'll be back," I said. -- May You Live In Interesting Times, Lord Franklin [Blackrock Infected]

Publish 53 Notes and Known Issues Jeremy Dalberg10 Jun 2008 12:01:49 Just a few notes, corrections, and known issues on Publish 53: - Grobu Furs MUST be separated to get the correct items when turning them in - turning in a stack will only count as one turn-in. We're working on a fix for this, but for the moment, just break up the stack and turn them in one at a time. - The Vanguard Chaos Shield and Obsidian Blade need to be turned in to Onoe the Soldier, not Yonns the Collector. - On Siege Perilous, Yonns the Collector is hanging out with the other turn-in NPCs in Luna

Non-Role Player Perspectives on Role Play
Posted on Monday, June 9, 2008, 10:24 PM EDT by Ishtar (Atlantic)
As I walked the lands of Sosaria, I felt it would be an enjoyable way to know more of the folks that play Ultima Online and ask them as non-role players what they thought of the role players on Atlantic. I got intriguing responses to this question in my travels that took me to many great hubs of the Atlantic community. I began my quest in Britain and I came across some interesting characters, one in particular named A Mongbat had this to say,"I find nothing wrong with their activities, there is one in Moonglow." he continued to explain that in some cases non-role players are not always well received by the role play community, but overall had no complaints. The other person I spoke with that stood out, ran a guild named Xtortion and went by the name Shiva Da'lale. His answer was very interesting as he told me this, "I think the RP community became irrelevant when they removed the Seer program. When the Seer program was active there were genuine rewards to being involved with RP." Ahh the Seer program, I do have fond memories of that. With a somber "sigh" I decided to travel the realm a bit more and see what others had to say. I picked up my leather bound book and trusty quill, then ventured out into the world again. Upon this leg of my journey I met a charming fellow named MageScagweed who was a member of the Syndicate (LLTS) recruiting guild. He explained to me he has yet to see any role players as of yet other than a grateful one and another who gave him a million gold. I was a bit surprised by his answer, but still plodded onward as he said very little else. As I made my way through the City of Luna, I ran into Xtreme Gamer and could not help but chuckle at his thoughts on my question, "I think they are all a bunch of fruit loops." I then had to know why he had come to this conclusion and asked him to enlighten me, to this he explained that he felt most guilds that Role play are in a "controlled environment", at least the ones he has encountered so far. At this point he seemed to get lost in his exercises in the art of poisoning and I felt it was time to move on. My mood became more somber with all my encounters thus far, as this says little for the state of Role play on Atlantic. The night drew closer and I decided to take one last chance on a young man who called himself Dumbledore. This is what he had to say, "I think it is cool that they like to do that.", I thought this was definitely more positive and asked him to continue, well my smile quickly became a frown as he made this statement, "when it interferes with game play it is quite annoying." Trying to put my best foot forward, I asked him why, here is his explanation, "I've had a role player come up to me and do this *salute* stuff, and I said hi in capital letters. Well, he said to me, how dare you not salute.", at this point, I could sense his disdain and understood why he had drawn this conclusion. His final thoughts on the matter were, "keep it in your guild and in a certain area and do not interrupt other people with it." On that note I thanked him for his time and headed home for the night. This last quest for knowledge was enlightening to say the least as I have been a role player on Atlantic for many years. These random and on the spot interviews gave me an interesting perspective as to how people see what the role play community does. I hope those who read this that do role play consider some of the viewpoints here and take them unto their hearts. Let us not forget that there are many types of players here on Atlantic. Not all enjoy the same things, but we all play and all like to have fun, we should all keep that in mind when we interact with others... -Ishtar-
