Lady Lava's Questionnaire

Taking a break last night from hunting in Tokuno my News Reporter responsibilities took me to Empathy Abbey.

On the subject of Tokuno ... please indulge me for a moment here folks on a personal matter. The current story line of " The Treasures of Tokuno" refers to the items that players are now having appear in their packs while hunting, have "washed ashore" and are called "relics ".
There seems to be several slang words being used for these "relics" and one of them is tomarties. I understand through history slang names have been used for everything from food to entire races.
I find this word tomarti repugnant and in all future reference to these items the correct term "relic" will be used by me.
Ok then, now that I have that off my chest I shall continue and thank you for the indulgence.

After leaving the Tokuno Islands I headed to Empathy Abbey to check out the location for the upcoming "Gathering of the Guilds". Upon entering the Abbey I noticed a player with young status behind his name. Slowly he approached me and started asking questions about the game.

This players name was Aegeis. After a long chat it was apparant this player had been in the realm in the past but it had been many years.
The Abbey in his day was a very popular meeting place.
I answered as many questions as I could. He was shocked to see that Yew has become a swamp. The shock did not end there....he went to the Brit bank having no idea of the Invasion.

As always, like most vet players, I try to help new players when possible. Aegeis refused gold that I offered. He wanted to truly start from the beginning again which I found honorable. Upon parting I did gift him with a suit of leather armor I made and a few petals for good luck to keep him safe. He gave me the honor of being a guest on Lady Lava's Questionnaire.

You have returned to UO and Great Lakes after a very long time. How long has it been?

I can't remember exactly, the first expansion was out and the 2nd one was about to come out.

Though you have only been playing a few days and much has changed, what have you found thus far to be the most changed in the realm for you?
Equipment, in my day GM crafted gear was the norm, with some few bits of magic acquired from dungeon crawling. Now it seems there is just an overwhelming assortment of things to take into consideration. Armor doesn't work the same, weapons don't work the same, gear selection now is a lot more complex than I remember.

What areas were your stomping grounds when you played this game years ago?
Vesper and Covetous were where I spent my early days. I eventualy purchased a house and set it on the coast east of Yew. From there I ventured all over that side of the world.

Would any old timers know your old characters? What were their names?
I don't know that anyone is left from when I played, haven't met any so far. My main character from the old days was Marcus Cole(yes named after the B5 character).

What type of character is Aegeis and what are your goals for him?
He hasn't really developed yet, there is too much to learn about how the game has changed to set any plans for him in stone. For now, he is an explorer, even if that is dangerous. I've been charging though old dungeons on horse back going as fast as I can just to see them again.

Do you plan to create other characters and if so what types?
I would like to have a Blacksmith and an Alchemist again, I had both of those back in the day, however my play time is far more limited than it was in the late 90's.

Why the name Aegeis and does that name have a special meaning to you?
It does, it was the name of an AD&D character I played in college(Aegis actualy). When Everquest came out I created a paladin there but the name filter would not take Aegis so I settled on Aegeis and he became something of a legend on his server. I've continued to use the name in other online games.

Will you let Aegeis's young status run its course or will you do away with it shortly?
I'm going to let it run its course, so far it has been a wonderful way to explore and bring back memories without having to run all the time.

What is your favorite color?
Emerald Green

Do you have a strategy to make gold as a new character?
No not really, I just did the starting quests on the new starter island and have been digging up the treasure chests from the maps.

Have you ever belonged to a guild and have you put thought into joining one now?
I was in 3 or 4 guilds with various characters in UO, but never really got involved. In EQ I was heavily involved with 3 guilds, founding one and being an officer in another.

What is your fondest memory of the old days in UO?
Way too many to choose just one but to name a few.... Hanging out at Kazola's, standing up to my first PK and actualy coming out on top, The Hulkster/British fight (though I seem to recall that being on another server), gaining Great Lord title and going to get a Chaos Shield.

What do you admire in a friend?
Honesty

What was the last movie you saw?
Second Hand Lion's

What is your motto?
I don't think I have one.

Lady Lava and Aegeis chatting infront of the Abbey

In the past several months it seems everytime I turn around a player is returning to Great Lakes...even the Queen has come to our fair lands ( see last Questionnaire )! I noticed today a player has posted on the GL boards that has been away two years and is back.

WELCOME ALL and thank you again Aegeis for being my guest today.
