Great Lakes - Player Interviews - Pat

Todays guest is Pat...a little edgy and alot red.

In your bio you claim you have been playing UO since day one except for a six month deactivation. Explain that deactivation please.

To be honest, I more watched the game from day 1. The LANCE account was originally played by a group of 4 friends. I didn't get into it (as in playing religiously) until around T2A. I stuck with UO through the tram BS. Then suddenly around the time aos was released, gm wasn't good enough anymore, and people started showing up with these queered-out new titles (adversary of the who?), not to mention they decided to rip off diablo and devalue every existing item in the game. Sometime between then and LBR, I called it quits. The last of the 4 of us that still played decided it was a game over not long after. Then I started playing another friends account here and there just to mess around and pretty soon I was digging up the old account, and starting over with nothing but my gm skills. This was around the time 7th anny was released, so maybe longer than 6 months, but you do the math.

Pat is a red correct? What do you like most about having a red character?
The best part about being red is how you become red: random, unprovoked murder.

Rumor has it you like to listen to Phil Collins music when you PvP. Is that true?
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album Duke. before that, I didn't really understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. it was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. Its an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enrichens the meaning of the preceding 3 albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
Just kidding though, I hate Phil Collins

It seems you have been having a good time as of late with TDR and PwNt. Why is that?
Because we're all yewbies, of course.

Heimdall is a PvP you respect. Who else is on your list?
Beerman aka heimdall always gives me a good fight. I respect alot of people (avoiding naming friends): Nino Brown, EDA, Xandros, Multani, just off the top of my head Geoffrey from XV seems to share my playstyle. Then of course, theres L-P, who are the only reason I still play this game, especially Vax and Thalidar, who are pretty much responsible for reequipping me. Vax is probably the most generous person in the game when it comes to helping guildmates.

You have been quoted as saying, " Bringing a knife to a gunfight is fun as hell, especially when the gunners drop left and right ". What actually do you mean by that?
That's my clever way of describing why I like to play a dexxer. I'm running out against multiple enemies, mages shooting me with spells for huge damage, archers shooting me with pieces of wood that somehow do even more damage, and here I am with a cleaver. I literally have to bring a knife to a gunfight, but the gunners usually run and I usually still win. Its quite a rush.

Do you really purchase gametime with UO gold?
Yes. I havent spent real life cash on UO since before ML, which I also upgraded with UO gold. Tomorrow I'm gonna break the streak though and buy gametime with cash.

Recently on the boards there was a thread titled "cute pet".
You added a photo of a shaved cat to this thread. Where did you find such a photo?

That photo was taken from smarmylater.com, a website some friends of mine made when they were bored. It has photos of interesting things/people as well as photoshop images and other art.

What one item in game to you own that means the most to you at this time?
I dig my cleaver, 15 ssi with 40ish mana leech and lightning. I'm always in the market for good swords or UBWS weapons though. I definitely need a good bone harvester so if anyone has one for sale...

Combine all your characters and how much time is spent in Fel vs. Tram?
I only leave fel to shop, so its probably a 95/5 split.

What is your favorite color, other than the color of blood?
I always liked cerulean

How many guilds have you belonged to since day one and their names?
Pre-aos: Hard to remember, but lets see, GOD, lightbringers, DOA(disciples of anarchy), GH or something like that (i remember the gm was named pashta).
More recent: TBB, R*T, WTF!, BC, L-P

If you could change one thing about your real life appearance what would it be?
I wish I could get away with looking however I want, but I try to stay incognito, what with marijuana prohibtion and all...

Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
I'm a bigger fan of anti-heros, like Alex from a Clockwork Orange or Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. Dwight from Sin City, Steve Zissou from The Life Aquatic, etc.

What is your motto?
May the Schwartz be with you.

Thank you Pat for taking the time for this Questionnaire. To answer your question.....though I think Phil Collins is talented I do not care for his music nor the tone of his voice.
