MT Boat House gets an update

MT Boat house gets an update!

Recently Ivan of The Mage Tower transferred the MT Boat House located right next to the historic Mage Tower on Moonglow island [Felucca side] to Ceno, former member of The Mage Tower. This was done to insure the safety of the Seer blessed house.

"This house isn't just a part of Baja's history, but also for all of UO. I look forward to keeping hold of this part of our Shard's history and being able to share it will everyone on our Shard."

    -Ceno

Ceno requested the work of one Lord Tarwyn Runeblade of the Kingdom of Dawn who is known for his great woodwork among other things.

He started off with adding a few fish nets to give it that "Fisher's abode" feel.

Here we see Sara of Baja lending a hand in decorating.

And here we have the final "product"!

The boat house is open to the public and will soon have a vendor up with misc. items geared more towards the fisher's life. If you have time I would recommend visiting to look around The Mage Tower and it's newly re furnished Boat House!

Inside the Wooden Boxes you will find rune books for the public use, and soon there will also be a public chest that people can use at their leisure

House design: Lady WildStar of the Kingdom of Dawn
Crafted items made by: Lord Tarwyn Runeblade
Extra help from: Sara of Baja
Person who stood and watched: Ceno
Reported by: Shae of [S*RE] and the TB Faction

Rick Flair Freed and Cymidei Fier Pardoned By Drunk Judge

Urlik Fangborne searched the Dark Tower today for signs of missing guardsman recruit, Rick Flair. As Urlik approached the Dark Tower, the gates slammed shut just as his feet set foot on the stone threshold. Overhead, Urlik saw Cymidei Fier, the Mistress of the Dark Tower, sitting on the parapet overhead on a massive bone throne, sneering down at him.

“Why are you here?” Cymidei demanded.

“I am looking for Rick Flair the Guard.” Urlik replied. “You know where he is…”

“Of course I do. He is secure in my oubliette, where no one can reach him. He is sick and he hasn’t eaten since we captured him. His time is short. To be frank, it is very short. If my demands are not met, he will be killed within twenty-four hours. I will behead him on this very spot.” Cymidei waved imperiously at a black slab of stone and a blood stained executioner’s axe.

“What are your demands?” Urlik yelled.

“I want a full pardon from the sentence …I was sentenced to be burned at the Stake by Judge Ferris in the Yew Courts. Obtain the pardon, or I shall make Rick Flair shorter by a head.”

“I shall return” Urlik said and then he returned to Britain to find Corporal Brackus. When Urlik found Corporal Brackus and told him of Cymidei’s demands, Brackus recommended that Urlik seek out Judge Ferris, because there is nothing that the guards could do to change a sentence, only the high court and the judge himself would have that power.

The guards discuss how to find Judge Ferris

The guards gathered and went to Yew but Judge Ferris was nowhere to be found. Urlik and Newt Longbow returned to Britain and told Brackus that they couldn’t find Judge Ferris. Corporal Brackus recommended that they ask citizens to be on the lookout for the judge. Later that evening, the Judge was seen entering the Cat’s Lair Tavern by Bucko.

Urlik Fangborne, Newt Longbow, Euterpe, Yalp, James of the Mage Tower and SoMeOne approached the judge and asked for the pardon for Cymidei Fier. Judge Ferris was outraged that his dinner had been interrupted! The judge was stuffing his face with all sorts of delicacies, leg of lamb, a whole roast pig, cakes, pies and enough sausages to feed a tribe of orcs.

The guards urged the judge to sign the pardon, because time was running out to save their brother-in-arms. The judge callously replied “acceptable loss, there are enough guards in this town to fill the dead one’s spot.” As the guards continued to urge that the judge sign the pardon, the judge became furious and rude.

Urlik offered to buy the judge a drink, soon all the guards were buying liquor, ale and wine for the judge who got quite plastered. The judge was about to sign a pardon for a man in another case who was convicted of disturbing the peace for walking around town NAKED and then later it was discovered that the Redcap gang had stolen the man’s clothes. The guards switched the pardons, and the drunken judge officially pardoned Cymidei Fier instead of the innocent nudist.

Urlik and Newt returned to the Dark Tower, where Cymidei was waiting for them. After a heated exchange, the guards demanded proof that Rick Flair was alive before they would turn over the pardon. Cymidei summoned Rick Flair from the oubliette and had him speak to the guardsmen.

Next, Cymidei agreed to exchange Rick Flair for the pardon. Cymidei stepped behind Rick Flair and shoved him off the roof of the Dark Tower, to where his fellow guards stood below. Fortunately, Rick Flair was not injured in the fall. After making sure that Rick Flair was alright, Urlik and Newt took him back to Britain. The guards gathered in a circle and celebrated the return of their comrade and friend.

“Hip, Hip Huzzah” and cheering echoed through the streets and even the Redcaps gathered to watch. Rick Flair answered questions about his harrowing imprisonment in the Dark Tower and revealed that the Witch Cymidei had been asking for disturbingly personal information about the Town Guards, specifically Brackus. She wanted to know if they had families, where they sleep at night and what kind of lives they have away from their duties.

The guards suspect that The Dark Tower and the Redcap Gang may be planning more attacks against Britain of a more sinister nature than before. After the guards successfully freed Rick Flair, they signed on four new recruits! Rumor has it that the guards may receive a commendation for their hard work.

Vendui Elggur,

It is unfortunate I must resort to this barbaric tongue *sigh* It has no nuances of tone or inflection.

I have a proposal for you.

It is true I am recruiting for my organisation.

It is also true that I will have a force very adept at hunting down those who require assassination...

BUT

I also require a special force.  The renor kyorl you shall be known as. The Black Guard. It is no secret I have no liking for that yeunn ma'lai Kaden Marsden. It is you who will seek an opportunity to do something permanent about the good Captain. I may have more for you in the future.

For now.. watch, wait and seek your opportunity. Like a spider in the shadows. So shall you strike!

As to the recruitment..

There are three different tests I will offer. You shall not know which is coming, so you will be ready for all three. The type of test you will know by the spiders you see at the secret location we will go to.

A frost spider

These from the North will indicate the competition will be a "Grand Melee". One in, all in. Last one standing alive will be the winner of the day and my newest recruit. Or have earned further favour if they have won before, of course.  Dro'xundus de'lil alurl so they say. "Survival of the fittest".

A giant black widow

These will indicate an individual competition, a duel to the death in rounds. The winner each round goes through to the next. All have only one chance. Noa lueth tlu zet rathrea "Lose and be left behind". A stone wall will mark the start of the rounds. There will be no interference from the crowd, or disruption of those fighting or among the watchers. If there should be you will not be welcome back or ever be admitted to my ranks. I need no trouble from you.

a dread spider

Finally, these will indicate the competition will be pairs. You and a partner of your choice will fight another pair. In order to win, both of them should be dead, both of you standing alive. Simple, but more difficult. Again, I will tolerate no disruption from the crowd amongst yourselves or towards those in the fight. A stone wall will again denote the start. I will be less impressed should one be resurrecting the other at the end. The goal is to keep each other alive and see your opponents are killed. Ul'naus udos sslig'ne "Together we defend".

When the spiders have been defeated, the competition above can commence.

Bwael ap'zen renor kyorl!

Good Luck!

Barra Linath.

May you never hear the shadows sing for thee.

Thief master of Britain
By EM Seppo

*cough* *cough*

You seek to know about the thief master of Britain, eh?

*chuckles while suppressing another bout of cough*

Well, lad, you have came to the right spot! Who better to tell you of the current thief master than the old one?

*starts laughing* *cough* *cough*

Ahh! Where can I start?…

To most people the thief master of Britain is an enigma.. a character shrouded in mystery.

They rightfully fear him for he can be ruthless if needed, but also find him alluring because his influence can rival any high-ranking Lord or Lady of our land.

*pauses for a moment as his mind wanders in memories*

To these old eyes, though, he will always be the boy with more bones than skin who came to Britain as one of the many refugees from Trinsic following invasion by Jou’nar.

*chuckles dreamily*

No I cannot tell you his name. Why? Well, I can think of no living person that knows his real name.

He has always been the sly one, even back then. Oh! the tales he can spin.. No wonder I picked him to be my successor…

*sighs deeply*

It is difficult to comprehend the thief master without understanding what it actually means to be one.

Aye, the thief master rules over a domain of miscreants and pickpockets. But what separates the man of the sewers from any other highway robber or gang of scalawags is that they have a strict code of honor.

And it is the thief master who is ultimately responsible for making sure that it is enforced.

*starts coughing loudly*

Pardon me, friend! I can see that I am telling you stories that are of little interest to you…

Know this much then… The thief master is the king of the underbelly of Britain… and the current thief master is the youngest to ever rise to such a position of power.

That should tell you a thing or two about his abilities.

To most he shall remain a crime lord that needs to be hanged. But few will find out that he can also be a staunch ally when it comes to maintaining the balance between good and evil.

___Thief master’s arc___

The thief master will routinely hand out tasks that can be performed by willing players. Each time a player successfully finishes one of these tasks, they get a notoriety point which improves their standing amongst the thief master’s clan. A high enough standing could open doors that might otherwise be closed!

For instance, whoever finished the quest to discover information about Gideon and sent in a report of their investigation will receive +1 notoriety point towards that character.

Event: Courage or Cowardice?

“You call yourself one of my officers, yet you return here with a miserable failure?!” The voice echoed across the dark chamber, towards a man kneeling on the ground. “I have explained myself sir…there was nothing I could do. I almost got everything I needed from that archeologist, but at the last moment was interrupted by…that paladin…and a swarm of adventurers.”

“Need I explain our goals again, and why I cannot have you fail?!” The figure yelled. “Our goal… is the complete domination of Britannia. And to accomplish this, we must take out the mystical forces that the Britannian’s draw magic from…” The figure displayed a projected image in front of itself and the man on the floor. The image depicted the codex, as well as the symbols of the eight virtues and three principals. “We know that magery is given existence by mystical forces in the shrines. However, instead of taking each out, my original plan was to destroy the essences of the principals the virtues derive from..thus taking out three at once. However…you failed miserably on the essence of Love, and even LOST THE PROTOTYPE!” The projection vanished. The man stood. “Sir! It was beyond my…” “I don’t want excuses, Tarin. I just want RESULTS!”

A new projected image appeared in the room. The image of a bell appeared. “This is the Bell of Courage. The virtues of Valor, Sacrifice, and Honor are derived from it.” The figure rose from its seat and walked forward. “If we can break the essence of this relic…we can disable several schools of magery at once… Oh it would be wonderful…a defenseless world…” The image vanished. “I will do my best!” Tarin bowed. “You had better…I don’t think I can deal with another disappointment…”

In Luna, the paladin, Candrin Devar, was reading through a book he had recovered from Hythloth on Valentines Day. “An attempt…to corrupt the essence of love…” He pondered, flipping a page. “This says…” He read more, flipping through several pages. “They plan to…corrupt the other essences…and perhaps the virtues?...” He closed the book and sighed. “Just what do they want?...Disabling magery would…cripple resistance to an invasion… Maybe that is their plan?...” He stood and put the book away in a box in the office. I’ll search for clues…and then if I find something of interest…I’ll alert those who would be interested in helping…”

Tarin stood on his ship, just off the island of Serpent’s Hold, looking out toward the town. “Heh…too easy… perhaps I can succeed this time and steal the original, then corrupt it’s essence and destroy the real thing…Oh how wonderful!” He lifted the sails and headed toward the island, snapping his fingers he began to summon an invasion force…

FoF: FoF: Fantastic Friday

Chrissay Zeeman

May 29, 2009

In this week's Five on Friday we cover Bamboo stools, Champ Spawns, and runes.

Can it be made so that if a rune is blocked we appear on an adjacent tile, or failing that if the rune is to a roof we are dropped down the z axis? Dare I say that this is a “feature?”

All sorts of bad behavior can occur if we start letting people teleport to adjacent tiles (not the true destination) from one subserver to another. There are, and have been, plenty of problems caused just by invalidating the original destination in the first place. The server can *very* easily find an adjacent, good tile. All it does is verify that there’s valid terrain, and nothing that blocks movement (mobs or heavy items) on the tile. But is it a house step, or, heaven forbid, *inside* someone’s house? Is it one tile past a secure border players aren’t meant to pass? Is it cut off from other tiles (an island)? The questions go on, as does the potential for exploits, and thus, the reasoning for linking directly to the known-good tile from casting “Mark.”.

-Draconi

--

Will the location of where the bamboo stool spawns each morning ever be revealed?
.

Might just add them in another, easier to spot, spot.

-Draconi

--

Will there ever be a way for reds to be protected at a spawn to get extra scrolls?

Not likely. Protection is a “reward” for those who observe the Virtue system. Sadly, murderers do not exactly qualify as virtuous.

-Sakkarah

--

Now that a higher quantity of gold is holdable are there any plans to change the weight of other resources/stackables?

Not at this time! Enjoy your renewed Bags of Sending, though :)

-Draconi

--

When will Pacific's Rubble in Magincia be removed like other shards?

Ah, May 27th, about a day after this question hit my inbox. Trammel was already done, but we missed Felucca, originally. Sorry about that! .

-Draconi

--

I am very partial to the 2D client. SA looks to be a combination of KR and 2D graphics wise, items in KR looked well, not like the same items anymore in KR, will this be the same for the SA client?

SA will be using the same tileart for architecture and items as the 2D client, so you should still be able to enjoy the look and feel of old (with updated terrain, mobs, and a new UI)

The most important thing that came to light was the new EM events news page or blog. The link is in a sticky thread on the LA forum or it is here. There is a complete transcript of the meet and greet with EM Dexter there also.

It was very informal and informative. Thanks to EM Dexter for all your patience and information.

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<

Last night, a group of adventurer's was presented a 'job' opportunity by a petty criminal in Vesper. The man instructed them to head to the Yew Crypts to meet with a contact who would outline the particulars of their new employment. Being ever curious, I tagged along hoping for an expose of Britannia's criminal underbelly. We got more than we bargained for…

The contact waiting in the depths of the crypts was none other than the ebon-cloaked Andrew, puppet of the Shadowlords and coconspirator in the murder of Clainin. Recognized by only a few, we listened to the task he wished performed in the service of his masters - for the benefit of Pauper. Apparently, Pauper had tasked two mages with researching something for him and they had both decided to withhold the information. Pauper wanted these mages 'dealt with,' and the research recovered.

Feeling very uneasy, the group split up to retrieve two notebooks; one in Ilshenar, the other in the Fire Dungeon. I went with the group to the Fire Dungeon where we acquired the research notes from a group of mages. The other group obtained a journal from the ratmen in Ilshenar. Once the books were secured, we returned to Andrew.

Memorial for the fallenMost of the Ilshenar group departed shortly after we arrived and presented the requested book to the despicable man. We were rewarded with the release of a skeletal 'Soulgathering Dragon' which promptly tore into those remaining. Several brave Britannians lost their lives in the battle to defeat Andrew's pet. Their sacrifice distracted the beast long enough to allow the survivors to defend and escape.

A brief memorial will be held for the fallen at 12pm CST on Saturday, May 30th. Mourners are to gather at the Counselor's Hall in northern West Britain. Lanterns have been placed commemorating Rhanaghar and Tattoo of the Guild of Friends, a mystical llama and Sweet Lil Mary of Chicken Fight Club, and Ra'Dian Fl'Gith of Cult of the Azure Dragon.

The High Council observed a moment of silence during their meeting this evening. Ra'Dian Fl'Gith had served several terms on the Council as the High Chancellor and High Justicar. The Britannian Armed Forces has pledged to seek out Andrew, and his malevolent masters, and bring them to justice.

R.I.P.

Rest in peace friends, may your sacrifice lead to a stronger Britannia!

Gardening/Landscaping contest

By EMSeppo

Here we go again!…

Baja Shard Museum is ready to officially open, except for one hitch. It is in a severe need of a garden to break the monotone landscape that is Malas!

This contest will work much like the previous one except that it is done OOC (out of character). So, you will have to submit screen shot(s) of your design. I will reserve the right to make changes to the winning design if needed.

I do not have all of the rules established yet. But seeing how the previous gardening contest created a shard-wide plant shortage, I am going to go ahead and announce the contest now.

Please note that you can take the teleporter outside of councilor’s hall in West Britain to get to the museum.

Rules (*updated)

1) * updated - You may use any item that you possess to design the garden. Additionally, you will be allowed to use 10 items of your choice from insideuo.

2) You may work in teams of up to 3 players each. Your team may consist of seed suppliers, for instance.

3) You may design only in a manner that you would be able to place the items yourself. As in, keep mindful of the z-axis - things possible with interior decorator tool in a house is not always possible outside.

4) The final design will have to be submitted in the form of a screen shot. Please use the feedback form to submit a link to the screen shot. I would also suggest posting a comment in here so that I can verify receiving your feedback. Please include character names of your team and email that can be used to get in touch with one of  you in the form.

5) * updated - If your design is picked then you need to supply all of the items required to implement it, excluding the 10 items picked from insideuo. Please supply the item numbers for them.

6) I have placed logs around the house - they define the outer limit of the garden. However, you are not required to use all of the space if you do not wish to. Not using all of the space will not count against you, but filling space just for the sake of it can cost you points! Be creative!

7) Deadline for submissions is 12 PM PST, June 15th, 2009

8) Winning team will be announced by 12 PM PST June 19th, 2009

A mysterious note was discovered this morning on the desk of the missing Joshua Harper.

Master Joshua,

I trust that this missive finds you in good health. It would be a tragedy for you if my payment comes late.

As per our agreement, I have gathered and documented information on the citizens and foreign dignitaries who attended Lady Nystad’s “Trial.” I actually found the exchange to be more revealing and insightful than expected, and I am not easily surprised in games of intrigue. A careful eye and a silver-tongue can detect even the most subtle undercurrents belying every word, every grimace, and every curtsey or lack thereof. It is a skill that you have yet to master, my former student.

You would do well to learn.

We arrived at the appropriate time for the mock trial, only to discover Lady Aino of the House Nystad unaccounted for. Nervousness? Stage fright? Guilt? She did not show these traits during her final arrival, but who can say what lurks in the deep recesses of that girls heart.

With far too much time on their hands, the courtiers and dignitaries began to exchange the usual pleasantries, while an out-of-place regiment of the Town Guard found themselves seats far away from the crowd of prominent nobles. It could be said that a certain animosity still remains between the nobles supporting Casca, and the commoners who still question his rule.

I approached their chosen leader, Corporal Brackus of Britain, who discussed with me yet another upcoming trial: The Kingdom of Britannia vs. Lady Cymidei Fier. He described the woman as slippery. She probably is…

A strange woman by the name of Tara approached Corporal Brackus. The man is growing increasingly popular with the womenfolk, so I decided to let the man enjoy himself. Had I realized just who the woman was, I probably wouldn’t have left her alone with him.

I approached a table, and seated were a couple familiar faces. Grand Duchess WildStar, Lady Regent of the Kingdom of Dawn, and Mama Faith, a strange but beloved woman with a reputation for kindness. I politely asked to sit beside them, which the Duchess permitted with some level of obvious displeasure. I love tormenting women like her with my good-looks.

I asked them about another familiar individual: Lord Nicholas. You are not the only one seeking information on the old man, my friend. Faith spoke kind enough words about the man, while the duchess adamantly refused to share anything about “her friend.” Sometimes it is what they don’t say that is more revealing than what they do.

I only managed to catch a few words from the conversation between Sir Brackus and Lady Tara. Tara interrogated the man, questioning why he and his guard were so far from their post. She cited the recent chaos in the streets, and how she has been “forced” to take up residence with her family in Moonglow. Based on my sources and her later outburst, she isn’t all that concerned about Britain. She was testing the man, the same way I tested the Duchess.

Brackus, in his defense, countered that she should not worry. The guard, in his own words, “would restore peace in short order.”

Tara approached me a moment later, and we had a brief and very revealing conversation that confirmed my suspicions. I am actually amused. She knows exactly what we want her to know, and that is good enough for now.

Lady Aino arrived several minutes late, but was greeted at the door with cheers and salutes by her “personal army.” Saius, obviously unnerved by the show of loyalty and praise being directed towards his apparent rival, quickly approached and addressed the lady of the fallen House Nystad.

He brought her before the podium, and made certain to take the stage first. In a momentarily effective but clearly transparent gesture on his part, the man made sure that he would be looking down at the woman when he spoke to her.

If the captain was insecure about her authority, the lord emissary was even more so. His actions spoke volumes.

Town Guard Headquarters

By EMSeppo

“Is the deed done?”
“It is, Captain! This communication device is unparalleled in its design and ahead of our time! It will serve the town guards well.”

Captain Nystad smiles as she nods. Taking a step back, she gazes again at what used to be a cold and empty guard watch tower. After many weeks of throwing her weight around, the new town guard headquarters, strategically located between the castle and the town guard West Britain Bank watchtower,  is finally ready to open doors. At least, for the ones eligible to gain entry.

The headquarter features:

- Door security via the means of magic to restrict entry to town guards and qualified recruits

- A centralized communication system that would make the headquarters the nerve of the town guard functioning

- Furnished interior for a comfortable meeting place

Sara's Note:  I found it interesting a 'Redcap' was lurking outside the new Headquarters when I went to get a screenshot.

Guardsman Rick Flair Missing as Verdict is Given in Trial of Cymidei Fier
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Monday, May 25, 2009, 2:03 PM EDT by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
Countess Malabelle, prosecutor in the trial against Cymidei Fier, silently prepared her final arguments and reviewed her papers for trial. The defendant, Cymidei Fier, entered the courtroom confidently, having been released on her own recognizance, Cymidei appeared refreshed and heavily armed. Cymidei watched Malabelle and her guards for a brief moment before deciding to attack.

Suddenly, an arrow whistled by her side, then another struck her in the throat and the final arrow narrowly missed her heart. Kurpur, Malabelle's orc guard, bravely put himself in the path of the flying arrows. Laughing, Cymidei shot Kurpur dead and cruelly looked on as Malabelle slowly bled to death.

Judge Ferris entered the room and was outraged and demanded an explanation for the carnage in the courtroom. All fingers pointed to Cymidei Fier and Corporal Brackus came out of the gallery to chain her to the table and keep her from harming anyone else. Prompt medical attention was given to Malabelle and Kurpur was revived on the scene as Judge Ferris questioned the crowd to find out how the attacks had occurred. In a fit of rage, Malabelle lunged at Cymidei and punched her over and over again in the face. Grumbling, the judge demanded that all parties and observers return to their seats and respect the court, then the trial continued. Malabelle ordered Calyndrell, a town guard familiar with the defendant to leave the courtroom.

Adam Clayton, the defense attorney, was not present so Cymidei Fier acted as her own counsel. In a surprise move, prosecutor Malabelle called Cymidei Fier to the stand as a witness and examined her about the circumstances surrounding the murder of Kellindil and to explain her actions. Cymidei made many incriminating statements including that she had intentionally attacked Kellindil because she believed that he had murdered a business associate of the Dark Tower and was threatening her. When pressed further, Cymidei revealed that she believed both Kellendil and the "business associate" were actually smugglers involved in trafficking illicit reagents. Cymidei would not elaborate on what "reagents" the Dark Tower had purchased before the brutal murder of Maksim Zacchara.

"The mans facade was beaten and bloodied. His nose was smashed in, and his right eye was blue and swollen shut. The mans lips were cracked and broken, and dried blood leaked from scratches and tears in his flesh. Unlike the bronzed hue of his hands, his face was unnatural pale, the blood having drained from his head into the lower extremities of his form. The nobleman, whomever he was, had been viciously beaten and savagely tortured before being left there as a gift upon the Master's velvet seat.As if on queue, the mans head sank forward with a sickening sound. Decapitated, the head bounced down onto the mans lap, and then rolled to the floor at Cymidei's feet. It came to a stop, a single piercing eye looking up with her in what was the last look of the mans face before his death: absolute horror.

It was Maksim Zacchara, the Head of the Zacchara Trading Company...a note was found signed K.V"
From The Dark master's Throne by Warder Dragon.

Cymidei explained that in her belief, the killer was none other than Kellindil vi Valdesin, Seneschal of the House al'Dracul and that was the reason she attacked him. Prosecutor Malabelle acknowledged that Zacchara had been murdered by a business rival but did not readily agree that Kellindil was the man responsible for the act. Malabelle pressed Cymidei to answer why she had reported the murder to Corproral Brackus. To which Cymidei replied that she had been "toying" with the guards to show them how powerless they are to enforce order in Britan, elaborating that the real power of the City will never be in the hands of the virtuous or mere guards.

In her closing arguments, Malabelle recommended that the Judge convict Cymidei on all counts and punish her by turning her over to the Town Guards or the inquisitors of the Ordo Malleus of Luna for two weeks of torture and flagellation followed by execution by burning at the stake. Cymidei argued that she was not guilty on any of the counts, but the gallery erupted into cries of "burn the witch!" Seeing that her situation was hopeless, Cymidei swallowed a bit of black rock. When Judge Ferris retired to his chambers. Cymidei broke free from the Town Guard and fled the courtroom by arcane means. Calyndrell and Malabelle got into a heated argument because Calyndrell believed he could have prevented Cymidei's escape if he had been allowed to guard her.

Judge Ferris found Cymidei guilty on all counts and asisgned the maximum penalty, recommended by the prosecutor. A price of 20 million Gold pieces has been put on the head of Cymidei Fier, for anyone who can find her and bring her to justice, alive. There are rumors that she was last seen in the Town of Britain following the trial.

Already, bounty hunters and guards are scouring the City to uncover clues not only to find Cymidei Fier but also to find a member of the Town Guards, Guardsman Recruit Rick Flair who was also reported missing! The Town guards are asking for assistance from the public for finding Cymidei Fier and Guard Rick Flair. Anyone who has information is urged to come forward at once.

Two Great Places To Shop Outside of Luna

Shopping in Luna is very easy with so many vendor shops so close together. As many know some of the best deals are found outside of Luna, if you have the time and know where to look.

Today I would like to highlight two shops that recently have caused a lot of attention and visits.

The first is Cut Rate Store owned by Deejaa which can be found at 83o 4'N, 27o 59'N.

As you can see by this screenshot showing a few vendors wares there is a wide variety. Another nice thing about this shop is the way in which the owner has done some of the decor. Though you cannot enter the doors to the interior much can be seen from the outside.

Cut Rate Store

The other shop which has been very popular is AE Rare owned by AE ONLINE at 105o 50'N, 1o 41'W. This shop with its vendor all clad in white may not be big on decor but it is big on selection and prices. If you are looking for a SoT this is the place!

Recently runes have been dropped often to both of these locations. They are both worth a look see.

Hello there. I bring you a tale of horror and disgust... Tonight as I was about on my journeys, frolicking in the crystals of Malas, I came across the EM Reward hall:

All of a sudden my heart grew heavy as I stared at this abomination, speechless. Toilet paper hanging off the precious statue, and greenery.. eggs brocken against the walls and doors.. a bag of flaming orc dung..

As I turned away to leave, I noticed a shadowy figure run off into the distance.. The town crier will gladly pay fifty gold pence for infornmation leading to this vandals capture.

Addition
Cyno has also increased the reward, and added a little incentive to find this culprit as well..
Thank you Emil Ispep of Pacific for this amazing report!

Is it possible in SA to macro everything that you can macro in 2D & UOA, or in regards to UOA at least as far as using pots, dressing, arming, recording and targeting with the mouse wheel?
We are actually working on a feature that will allow you to import your 2d macros into the SA client. So yes when this feature is complete, every macro you could make in 2d will also be possible in SA.

Much of the functionality from UOAssist is already in the SA client. It might just take some getting used to the new UI. We’ve also removed the code that made it difficult for developers of approved third-party programs to support the new client.
-Supreem

--

Why is the Jaanas Staff not Powder of Fortificationable & such low base durability (less in fact than Replicas)?
There is no reason for the Staff to have less durability and for PoF not to be usable on it. This will be fixed in the future.
-Sakkarah

--

Will we ever see any other artifacts that have cool special effects that are outside the normal weapon mods again?
You bet! I’m a big fan of endowing artifacts with interesting abilities and behaviors outside of the standard item properties. I’m sure we’ll see at least a few in Stygian Abyss!
-Draconi

--

Why are pets allows to (for example) cast Flame Strike with only 25 Magery?
Wow, I have no idea. That seems pretty messed up to me. It’s most likely because their wild counterparts have an override that links directly to the spell circle, and isn’t dependent on skill. We can look into this.
-Draconi
--

Why is Poison from Frog Form a higher level than Poison from Serpent Form?
Hmm, well, there are those frogs that’ll kill you with a touch. Then again, there are plenty of snakes that can kill you even… deader. We’ll have to look at this.

Lord Saius Leads Attack Against Lurking Orcish Horde
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Saturday, May 23, 2009, 5:43 PM EDT by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Today Lord Saius called together the citizens and guards for the purpose of defeating the threat caused by orcs and other semi-humans to the City of Britain. Recently orcs attacked the sewers beneath the city. Instead of relying on Captain Aino Nystad to put down the Orcish threat. Lord Saius himself led an attack on three well known orcish strongholds in Yew and near the City of Cove.

The Orc Cave, revealed the existance of an odd alliance between a Powerful necromancer and Durtag the Orcish Warlord. Once inside the caves, the two powerful villians worked together to raise undead hosts and an orcish war party. We were nearly overcome with vast fields of lethal poison that filled the entire room while trying to fight off the advancing hordes.

Once the fight was over, several adventurers found faintly glowing weapon shards and shimmering shards of armor. The color of the shards was a perfect match for the strange necklace worn by Lord Saius himself. Lord Saius said that the shards of armor were sources of great power and that he will investigate them further.

Lord Saius asked us to goad Captain Aino Nystad and boast to her of Lord Saius' victory over the semi-human threat. Rumors are circulating about the growing rivalry between Captain Aino and Lord Saius and the purpose of the mysterious shards that were found.

Turmoil in Britain as Town Guards Come Under Fire!
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Saturday, May 23, 2009, 2:02 PM EDT by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<< Captain Aino Nystad's Town Guards, known for their nobility, selfless duty and loyalty to the City of Britain have recently come under intense pressure from Lord Saius and their rivals on the streets of Britain the Redcap Gang! Recently Lord Saius confronted Lady Aino at the Town Hall of Skara Brae and accused her of forming a private army and assisting the Kingdoms that are independent of Lord Casca's rule such as the City of Avalon and Kingdom of Dawn.

Lady Aino Nystad faces Lord Saius

The Britain Town Guards are lead by Corporal Brackus who is often seen making his rounds around Britain in the evenings, a stoic figure in platemail with a flowing blue cloak and sharp halberd. Brackus makes a devoted effort to keep the people safe and is assisted by: Leonidas, Calyndrell, The Sphinx, Highlander, Rick Flair, Urlik Fangborne, Newt Longbow, Yalp, Jules Hexecott, Euterpe and Lord Sibley.

Meanwhile, On the streets of Britain, deadly Redcap gangsters have been murdering, robbing and collecting extortion money from anyone who dares to go to the West Britain Bank. The appearance of the Redcap gang is closely linked to the arrest of Cymidei Fier, Mistress of the Dark Tower, for the murder of Kellendil. Known Redcap Gang members include:Mikie, Yourself, Jadon Thur, Morgance Fier, Anne Scarlett, Igo the Fragrant, Flos the Pirate, Calis, Calyndred, Lanfear and SoMeOnE.

Watch out for the Redcaps!

Cymidei was overheard vowing that the Redcap Gang would kill five victims in Britain for each day she was confined to the prisons. During Cymidei's trial, the prosecutor Countess Malabelle was assaulted by an unknown assasin and burned, witnesses were also intimidated and bribed. In an unexpected turn of events, the victim Kellindil condemned the charges against Cymidei saying that she was not guilty of the murder.

After a key prosecution witness, Xel the Wanderer, failed to appear; Judge Ferris of the Yew, reduced the charges against from Attempted Murder of the First Degree and High Treason to Disturbance of the Peace. Closing arguments in the trial will be heard by the Court of Yew on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 6:00 PM PST.

According to the Town Guard log books, which can be viewed in their station near the West Britan Bank the Redcaps have been responsible for numerous crimes including mass murders. Children are also reportedly missing from the City's farms, wharf and warehouse districts. Fighting against the severe increase in crime and bloodshed in the streets, the Town Guards have stepped up recruiting and patrols.

The Town Guards have also established a new Guard Tower, located near the Castle of Britain. Discouraged by the Court reducing the charges against Cymidei Fier, Corporal Brackus and the other guards are now rounding up Redcaps when they find them, arresting tying them up and beating them instead of taking them to the Yew Courts.

As a counter attack the Redcaps kidnapped Guardsman Recruit Rick Flair and are holding him captive at the Dark Tower. As the turmoil in Britain continues to escalate beware of both the Redcap gang and the Town Guards!

To participate in the fun visit the Town guard station or visit the Redcap Forum for more information.

A Call to Arms
By EMPallando

Brave warriors and guardsmen! I am sure you are all aware of recent happenings underneath Britain. When our beloved capital was nearly overwhelmed from below!

This attack can not go unanswered! And your leader and Captain, Aino Nystad, has proven ignorant in her commitment and self serving in her whims!

To that end, I will take charge where others are unworthy to do so. I call together all of those who would have revenge against these beasts! Together we will bring these feral orcs to heel! Together let us discover what has emboldened our old enemies so!

Rally to me, soldiers of the throne! We strike soon,

Lord Emissary Saius

The juvenile cave dwellers (you know the ones, you may have helped violently massacre their mother) have been eating and living well in Mt. Kendall for some time now.

The Minocian people have been visiting the little beasties, acclimating them to humans.

Anyhow, to get to the point…I’ve remade the bulletin board on the west wall in the Planning Center (the little house adjacent to the Counselor’s Hall in West Britain) for name ideas to be posted to.

Paleonbiologists, specializing in the field of the ancient Gargoyle race, have confirmed that these creatures are, in fact, not of the gargoyle species. They believe them to be an ancient offshoot of the species…far less intelligent, and lacking the development of eyes. The appearance of actual gargoyles near the cave is yet to be understood.

In their studies, however, they determined that both of the youth are male. Brothers.

Head on over to the Planning Center with any name ideas you have. Keep them appropriate, or even through an RP sense. Through a series of Q&A Q&A’s (*snickers at his lame joke*) and community meets we will find the best names for the little buggers.

Update: Orcs Continue to Encroach on Britain Farms

Orc CampContinuing to follow up on the mysterious livestock deaths on the west Britain farms, I happened to stumble upon a partially constructed orc camp. Many orc grunts wandered the area around the camp, just north of the northern-most farm.

While they did not currently appear to be supported by any of the more powerful orcish ranks, the grunts did not take kindly to being discovered. Unfortunately for them, they were sub-standard warriors and fell quickly to well cast energy bolts.

How did the orcs slip enough grunts into the valley to begin construction on a camp without being spotted? Could this be the prelude to a new attack on Britain? Watch this camp closely, friends!

Team Orange - UO Chucks - Wins Naked Dungeon Run (With A Twist)

Naked Dungeon Run (With A Twist)

Due to an error in the posted event time, EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan held two dungeon runs on May 14 ... one at the published time, and another at the time listed on the EM Event lanterns placed around Origin.

Run 1:
We met up with EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan at West Britain Bank to be gated to an unknown location.

This group was gated to Shame (Trammel), where the EMs explained the rules ... and the twist.

The Rules:  Start the dungeon run naked, but kill monsters along the way to build a full set of armor plus jewelry and a weapon.
The Twist:  After assembling the required items, find EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan somewhere out in the open within the dungeon.

The EMs were concerned about the dungeon being hard on our feet, so furnished us EM-made shoes:   Orange UO Chucks (named after Laurana's great great grandfather who had been a shoemaker for Lord British); and Pink Faine Air Jordans.  After much discussion between Laurana and Faine regarding who makes the best shoes, a challenge was issued by EM Laurana:

During the run through Shame, I was so busy trying to stay alive, kill monsters, and  look through their corpses for armor, jewelry and weapons, I didn't get any screenshots.  Once I had my armor set (or at least thought I had a full set), I set out in search of EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan.  Running through Level 5 of the dungeon, I spotted a pair of EM-made stools and freshly caught fish and footwear.  Soon the EM's appeared (they had been checking on the contestants) and informed me I was the first to find them.  In checking over my armor, though, they noticed I did not have gloves. D'OH!  I quickly found and killed a nearby earth elemental who just happened to have a pair of gloves for loot.

Some of the sets of armor that were put together during the event:

All contestants were located by the EMs and brought to the entrance again:

At the bank, I caught Paplona cleaning death robes she had acquired during the run out of her pack.

Run 2:
Again, everyone gathered at the bank to be gated to an unknown location.

This time the dungeon was Despise (Trammel).  The rules and the twist were the same as the first run, and EM Laurana and EM Faine Morgan explained the shoe competition.

Again the EMs handed out shoes, equally dividing the teams, and the run was on!

And again, UO Chucks Team Orange won the run! High Lighter was the first to complete his armor/jewelry/weapon set and find the EMs not far from the ogre lord island of Level 4 Despise.

EM Faine Morgan will be wearing EM Laurana's orange UO Chucks for the rest of the month of May .. including to the May Events EM Meet & Greet/Q&A Session, Friday, May 22, 6pm Pacific, at the West Britain Counselors Hall; and the Pirate Adventure, Saturday May 22, Time & Location To Be Announced.

Hint of Things to Come
Now’s the time to get those chickens bonded and trained! Look for the battle to determine who rules the roost coming in June!

This just received from our friends at UOForums:
UOForums Interviews Mesanna (UO's Associate Development Manager)

Mesanna took some time out to answer questions sent in by our users, so here's our interview with Mesanna.

1) What are some of the ways UO is trying to innovate to stand out from other games?

In my opinion UO is so unique we can only improve on that foundation. We want to make sure there is something for everyone’s play style.
2) The Warriors of Destiny story arc has been long(over 2 years!) and enjoyed immensely by the player community. With it's conclusion fast approaching, is there another grand story arc waiting in the wings? If so, can you give some very vague thematic hints or just cut to the chase and let people know what to start hoarding/camping?
Come on guys there is always something in the works, you should know that by now *evil grin*

The interview can be found here.

Many thanks for Mesanna for doing the interview with us

Thanks to our users for submitting their questions

Orcish Endeavors

Posted on Sunday, May 17, 2009, 9:13 PM EDT by Martyna Zmuir (GreatLakes)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<

Two weeks ago, a source revealed to agents of the Ruling Council that orcs in Yew had received plans and material for the construction of a new form of automaton, a blackrock golem. The orcs were said to be constructing these war machines seep in their mine beneath the Serpent's Spine Mountains. Acting on this alarming intelligence, an assault force was assembled and swiftly laid siege to the mine.

Orcish MineAfter fighting their way through abnormally large clusters of orcs, they found the golem assembly area and discovered that several prototype blackrock golems had been created. The blueprints for the golem's creation were recovered during the battle, and later linked to a mysterious criminal known as 'Pauper.' This same criminal has been linked to the death of Clainin, the murder of a meer dignitary, and smuggling.

Dylan KrisnosA week later, the Volunteer Royal Guard assembled after Dylan Krisnos, a craftsman working on the new mountain base, was taken captive. The signs of orcish involvement were obvious, and once again the orcish mine was laid siege. Throngs of orcs and lone golem were defeated, and the bruised and battered craftsman was rescued. The VRG fought their way back out of the mine and through the orc valley. Dylan was left in the tender care of the skilled hands in Deep Forest Healing of Yew. Construction on the VRG base has recommenced.

Green flecked cropsRecently, orcs have been implicated in the strange deaths of livestock in the fields west of Britain. Cows, pigs, and a sheep all perished mysteriously a few days ago - not a mark on their bodies. Mysterious green flecks were found on the crops growing in the nearby fields, only wheat appeared untouched. The V.R.G. investigated and a suspect was taken into custody for questioning by Captain Savos. He blamed the deaths at the farms on orcs, and was later released due to a lack of any evidence.

An orcish scoutI returned to the farms today to see if I could gather any further clues, and found that several of the farmers scoffed at the idea of orcish activity. However, as I checked to see if any of the blighted crops remained in the fields an orcish scout's arrow whizzed past my ear. The scout's death was swift. I considered this attack to be a coincidence, the act of a solitary stray orc. The next field I surveyed contained another orcish scout, which perished as swiftly as the first...

The orcs have, or had as some believe, a mysterious benefactor. They've built blackrock golems. And now they are caught lurking in fields near the capitol, potentially tampering with our food supply. History has taught us the orcs can be just as cunning as any other foe, we must remain vigilant.

Watch the orcs, watch for signs of 'Pauper.' Join the Volunteer Royal Guards, join the Britannian Armed Forces Alliance and help keep Britannia safe!

The ThunderDome

Incase you haven't heard a new Player Versus Player (PVP) arena has been established. The new arena is being hosted by The Super Best Friends (SUPR) guild of Pacific. Though it is a player run establishment, fame and wealth can be obtained, there is of course an admission fee for the battle participants. The Thunderdome seating stands four stories tall viewing down into the battle pits below.

Viewing attendants can find the Thunderdome west of the dungeon Ice and Wrong (118o 18'n 20o 36'e). If you are not familiar with the area you can easily grab a rune from a vendor named Dueling Tournament located just outside the Felucca Yew Moongate. Run one screen to the South West and you can't miss it! If you are interested in viewing the fearsome fighting of the Thunderdome reply to the threads or contact a member of SUPR, I'm sure someone will be more than glad to help. And remember all are welcome even those who live outside of Felucca, it may be advised to wear your birthday suit and bank your valuables as some innocent by standers may not have the best luck venturing to Felucca.
Brackets

Trying to keep the matches fair the brackets were created with the use of an in game Attendant called a "Lucky Dealer". Using a 1d100 each division player was given a number. If the participants named rolled the same number they were rerolled.

In this week's Five on Friday we cover the SA client, housing tile sets, and Vorpal Blade.

Is the SA client going to be a top down 2D view like 2D and KR or is it going to be more like a 3d world like world of warcraft?

The SA client is an improvement on the KR client, and thus still keeps the UO 2.5D look and feel – featuring new terrain, particle effects, animations, and an enhanced UI

The Deal with the Vorpal Blade? I thought it was supposed to make a Vortex Hole that sends us to a random location...

My fault again! This and the other items will be enabled in a future Live publish.

Why is HLD available on glasses but HLA isn't?

This would need to be investigated further. It’s possible that the Design team during Mondain’s Legacy didn’t feel a need to include the Hit Lower Attack item property on glasses.
-Leurocian

--

Will there be new housing tilesets in Stygian Abyss?

We will have additional tile sets added to the current ones.
-Leurocian

--

I saw that pressing CTRL on a KR client makes player stops, and there's nothing to avoid this. I used to put many combinated keys macroes on ctrl.. This will change on SA client? Thanks.

The idea behind the control key in the KR client was to allow players to face in a direction without running. This was because it was much harder in KR to face in a direction by single clicking. We will be removing this key assignment completely for SA since so many players use the control key for macros.

Trial Imminent for Dark Tower, Mistress of Murder
Return to TopSubmit News!
Posted on Friday, May 15, 2009, 11:23 AM EDT by Cymidei Fier (Baja)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<
Last night, Judge Ferris, the prosecutor Baroness Malabelle of Old Trinsic, and Defense Attorney Adam Clayton, met to discuss the fate of murderess Lady Cymidei Fier and to set a date for the Trial, Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 7 PM PST.

The prosecutor brought numerous charges including high treason, attempted murder, resisting arrest and deceiving an officer. Judge Ferris, a portly fellow, enjoyed a palatial feast of chicken legs, ham and roast duck as he listened to the charges, frequently wiping his mouth on his robes while the attorneys hotly debated the charges.

Judge Ferris ruled that the charges of high treason would be dropped but sustained the other charges affirming that the Town Guard is a legitimate law enforcement agency that can arrest citizens and impose the King’s law under the guidance of Commander Nystad who reports directly to Lord Casca. Judge Ferris refused to hear arguments from the defense that the Town Guard is currently under investigation for misconduct and serious offenses against the Crown including that they were founded without royal permission.

During the proceedings the defendant, was observed to pick the locks that chained her to the bar with a small piece of bone. Rob Zombie, Lord Yalp, Xel the Wanderer and others tried to alert the guards that Cymidei was picking the locks but the guards did nothing until she had broken free.

Seizing an opportunity, Cymidei nearly escaped from the courtroom before she was surrounded by the guards. Later Guard Brackus wrote a scathing account of the night’s events in his log book, which can be viewed at the West Britain Guard Tower.Cymidei Fier was overheard screaming, as she was lead away by the guards that five would die in Britain for each day she is held prisoner. Shortly after midnight, five children were reported missing from the wharf and warehouse district of Britain. It is feared that they were taken by agents of the Dark Tower.

When the court reconvenes on Sunday, May 17th at 7 PM PST, the court will hear testimony from witnesses: Lord Xel the Wanderer, Lady Wildstar, Calyndrell, Kellindil vi Valdesin and Sleath Von Drakmor. The court will also sentence Lady Fier at that time if her guilt can be proven by the prosecution.

Lord Saius Challenges Captain Nystad & Other News

Posted on Thursday, May 14, 2009, 4:47 PM EDT by WarderDragon (Baja)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Greetings, Citizens!

You may remember that a couple weeks ago, Lord Emissary Saius of the Kingdom of Britannia issued a statement that publically condemned Captain Aino Nystad of the Royal Britannian Guard. He highlighted several percieved offenses against the Office of the Crown - including but not limited to holding a series of public spectables in a territory currently under the protection of a secessionist state, and the formation of a separate guard agency without the approval of the monarchy - which was to result in a public hearing to ascertain the validity of these accusations, and decide appropriate punishment for the young Captain.

It seems that the date has finally been set. You can read the original announcement here.

Title: Lord Saius challenges Captain Nystad
Location: To be Announced
Date: 2009-05-16
Start Time: 3:00PM Pacific
End Time: 3:45PM Pacific

Although the location is currently unavailable, we shall update you as soon as word becomes available.

Significant outrage has been expressed over this recent announcement, including renewed outrage directed towards the Office of Lord Casca. The representatives of more than one independant state have also expressed their anger towards the new monarch and his spokesperson.

"I am personally disturbed by this. You would think that Saius would be applauding Lady Aino's efforts to increase protection for the normal citizens, not sabotaging her efforts and calling her a traitor.

What has Saius done to protect anyone?"
- Anonymous

"Led mez blah diz, az Liazun ob da Gulgeth clan tu da tuwn ob Dawn. Da Orciez du nub truz Cascu bekuz hemz nub blah tu da Orciez wen wez blah hemz whu clompid da "Kuncil", Whu da nu "Kuncil" ib? Whu mek hems Warboz?" - Kurpur, Gulgeth Ambassador to the Kingdom of Dawn.

"But it is past time for me to become open about it. This usurper and his so called court and council has pushed the very limits of the peace with our great lands. Threatening not only Lady Nystad, but many of the territories thhat have forged and molded our very way of life.

Down to Casca!! Down with this false regime!!"
- Lady Oriana of the Almost Famous Knights.

"I find this political tug-of-war between the two individuals absolutely fascinating. Where I come from, it is called the Game of Houses. There is always more to the story than what we see on the surface.

The question is, what?"
- Kellindil vi Valdesin, Seneschal of the House al'Dracul.

In other news, the proceedings in The Kingdom of Britannia vs. Lady Cymidei Fier will continue as scheduled. The pre-trial hearings will begin tonight at 7:00PM (Pacific), at the Yew Courthouse in Trammel. Sources tell us that the prosecutor is a representative from the Barony of Old Trinsic.

The Britain Guard, led by Corporal Brackus, has closed investigations into the missing thief Cyric. Cyric, who attempted to rob several nobles at knife-point only two weeks back, has disappeared and is presumed to have fled the city. Any information regarding his whereabouts should be submitted to Corporal Brackus, who can be found in the guard house just south of the First Bank of Britain in Trammel. Cyric is believed to wear a green hat, has a rather uncouth appearance, and rarely bathes.

Rumors are currently flying regarding the emergence of a band of brigands and thugs who have been stalking the City of Britain at night, robbing nobles and harassing the citizenry. It is feared that the increasingly dire economic situation, combined with the slowing trade between Tokuno and Britannia, has led many young and unskilled laborers to turn to brigandry to feed themselves.

Pilgrims belonging to the Society of Chaos, a relatively peaceful but anarchic movement who adhere to the earlier tenants of Lord Blackthorn's Chaos Principle, were waylaid on their pilgramage to the Vale of Anarchy. Reportedly, two new edifices have been erected surrounding the site of the shrine, and an aura of darkness permeates the area. The pilgrims reportedly began to halucinate, seeing ghosts and undead rise from the ground beneath them, causing them to flee in a panic. The pilgrims reportedly fled to the Queendom of Sheiba, where they currently have sought refuge. It is believed that three members of the pilgramage have gone missing, but no attempts have been made to return to the shrine to search for them.

Lady Magdalena, the Heiress-Presumtive of the Queendom of Sheiba, has recently been rescued from her kidnappers. We've not been able to confirm the names and identities of her kidnappers, but sources tell us that they were both dark elven men belonging to some ancient and forbidden cult. They are believed to remain at large. Magdalena is believed to be unharmed, and has reportedly been reunited with friends and loved ones.

Sir Zackarias, famous for his magical tricks and his ability to morph into the likeness of a rabbit, has been missing for nearly a week. Zoo Keepers fear that he might've been eaten by a large grizzy bear. We will keep you updated, and will report once we have more information on the subject.

The heads of several merchant companies have been found murdered in recent weeks, all with stiletto blades left in their backs. Although no one has confessed to the despicable act, suspicion is being directed at House DeCaelum, one of the only houses to come out unscathed. The family patriarch, Lucan Franz DeCaelum, was unavailable for comment at press time.

Ceno, the famous historian and scholar of the mystic arts, has been reported to be investigating the ruins of an ancient site located out in the middle of the sea. He is believed to be seeking an ancient magical artifact with the help of Lord Nicholas. While the nature of the artifact remains unknown, he has mentioned to reporters that something "grand" is soon to occur.

Attention Archers! April BSR Results and May Schedule

April Best Shot In The Realm
submitted by Toni Fierce

It was a cool, spring Friday night that April’s BSR was held at the Skara Brae Faire Grounds. This was the first time that the famed BSR was held on an early weekend night. Twenty-One archers showed up for the event.  After Toni Fierce, GM of M!S, gave her welcome to the BSR Speech,  the archers signed up at a convenient table next to the podium.

The 1st Round minimum of a score of 70 was breezed through with only one archer failing to meet the total.  Count of Berg was given a consolation check for his efforts.  It seemed to the archers present that the quality of shooters had definitely risen and that all must bring their "A" game to be crowned the winner as no less then three archers robin hooded in this early round and 10 others were perfect.

The 2nd Round only found two more archers falling out with five more archers sharpening their aim with robin hoods.

When the 3rd Round started, it was a difficult round where only the perfection of three bulls-eyes would move you to Round 4. The 3rd Round started with Zanza and Aeon Flux piercing the buttes to perfection, and then IT happened. Who knows what caused it? Was it a Friday night evil omen?  As Kathryn (February’s winner) and Arson stepped up to shoot, the buttes shook, the wind picked up, spectators were looking around in wonder, and 8 consecutive shooters,  some of Baja’s best,  shot arrows all over the place, and 8 consecutive shooters failed to pass Round 3.  Some wondered if only 2 shooters would move to round 4.  Then the murmur in the crowd ceased and the wind slowed ... Nikita ,Cherokee, and Ahebban joined the first two to move to Round 4.

The final Round 4 required a score of 200, a number beyond just perfect bulls-eyes, started with Zanza, Aeon Flux, Nikita, Cherokee, and Ahebban vying for the crown.  Cherokee robin hooded the final round but also had a near miss and a 10 score on one of her shots, but Zanza who was perfect all evening showed his skill and with a 200 grabbed April’s Crown and a seat in the years end Champions Shoot.

Toni Fierce awarded Zanza his winner's 1-million gold check and his engraved bow while the crowd cheered.

M!S would like to invite all archers to attend the May BSR, which will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 8:30 pm shard time (9:30pm Mountain, 10:30pm Central, 11:30pm Eastern)

New Page 1

Hi there!

Just to let you know that the next cheese race will still be taking place this
Friday at the same time of 6pm EST in the paddock outside of West Britain. The
rules have changed slightly, see below. Emphasis on the new change to the rule -
you have to go to the end and then back, instead of just the end.

Unfortunately, Kanmare and myself have been busy these last couple of weeks, but
we hope to be making a more regular appearance soon, starting with the cheese
race on Friday!

So here are the revised rules. Copies of the book are at West Britain Bank, the
Britain community collection library, the counselor's guild hall and at the
paddock.

Aim

The aim of the race is to roll [drag and drop] the cheese from the start of the
course to the table at the end and then back to the starting marker, once
told to start the race. The first person to place their cheese on the table
and get back to the start with their cheese wins that round
. After each
round, first and second places will be recorded. After the third player has got
their cheese to the end of the track, the race will end within 5 seconds.

In order to win the race, the player's cheese must be placed on the table and
then be taken back to the start and placed on top of the colored log.

Players in second place will only partake in the finals if there is a low
turnout of participants -or- if first place does not attend the final (or has
been disqualified, see “disqualification”)

Winners from each round will compete in a final, where the winner’s name will be
put on a cheese, to be displayed at the event hall (and on the field for a
month)

Disqualification

Players will be disqualified from a race, or the finals, if:

They are observed to be running while holding a cheese.

They are found to disrupt the other contestants during a race (this includes
spamming at the bottom of the screen)

They are found to have taken or dragged a cheese, either their own or that of
another contestant, outside the designated race track while any race is in
progress

Abusive, vulgar or hateful behavior toward other players or the cheesemaker!

Please note that disruptive behavior, even from non-participants, will not be
tolerated. So don't do it!

Oh and I know I have to do the interview questions still. Sorry about that! But
like I said, we've been pretty busy :D

Agent of Corruptions Wrong Base
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, May 10, 2009, 4:56 PM EDT by Lyconis (Pacific)

Agent of Corruption Base
The Mysterious Stranger told us that The Agents of Corruption had established a base in Britannia. His intelligence said the entrance of the base is in the depths of the dungeon Wrong, where the largest mass of Agents of Corruption were located in our last episode.

A large force of warriors went to the dungeon of Wrong and entered like a stampede, killing any Agent on site. The warriors in Wrong were greeted by Ancient Liches, Betrayers, Skeletal Dragons, other Agents and Recruits of Corruption, along with the regular inhabitants of Wrong.

After clearing the lower levels of the dungeon the group pushed its way into the second level of wrong. Pushing towards a room in the north eastern most corner, we discovered a Red Gravestone. The encrypted code in the books, recovered during our last adventure, revealed that this Gravestone was in fact a portal to the Agent of Corruption Base whose commanding leader was Vzar Lire. We were warned this base was heavily guarded. A password of Alpha Omega was given to the mages and warriors that dared brave the danger inside. Upon saying the password near the gravestone we would be teleported instantly to the base of Vzar Lire.

Vsar Lire's Agent of Corruption Base
A massive gathering of Demonic beings awaited our entry. A variety of Balrons, Skeltal Dragons, Dragons, Ancient Liches, and Elementals greeted us by drawing blood from many of the warriors. After a fierce battle we started pushing our way deeper into the base.

Peering down the hallway littered by corpses stood Vzar Lire. Tamed greater dragons, archers, warriors and mages continued to attack the vile warriors while we made our way to Vzar Lire. It was clear this base would not be given up without a fight, greater dragons fell to the ground, mages thrown to the walls and warriors were knocked to there knee's. After an intense struggle Vzar Lire's Life force drew thin as he collapsed to the ground.

We searched the area to discover any evidence of the agents plans. Some of the corpses had parchments labeled "Master Corruption Plan". These plans spoke of other bases, a Master of the agents and a list of cities that were to be attacked. These cities were
Luna
Vesper
Yew
and
Britain

The room at the end of the hallway appeared to be an office contained a "Crystal Vibrating with Arcane Energy". This Crystal resembled the blood sigil which was destroyed by Lord Casca's attack force shortly before the appearance of the first Platinum Dragon in our lands. We later discovered that this crystal lead us to the Shrine of Chaos many paces north of the city of Britain.

The survivors of the battle went back to the Counselor's Guild in the city of Britain to regroup. We talked about the plans we had discovered, shortly after The Mysterious Stranger vanished to research a parchment called "Master Corruption Plan".

Addition

Further investigation of the Agents of Corruption Wrong Base a "head of Cyno" was discovered near the guillotine in the eastern most room. There has been no word if this is the head of EM Cyno Razik, the Pacific EM’s did not comment at the time of this writing. Perhaps the head of Cyno in the Wrong Base is mere coincidence.

Thank you SchezwanBeefy for the keen eye

Anyone wishing to donate gold towards the purse, please send me a PM.

Contest Rules

So, how will this contest actually work - you might be wondering? Well, it is fairly straight forward:

During the four week period, I will be randomly visiting West Britain Bank at different times during the day. At this point, I will do all names and take a screen shot around the bank. Points will be rewarded based on your presence, as follows:

Individual points
  1. If your name is present in the screen shot, you will get one point and an entry will be made for your character in my logs.
  2. If you have text over your head (implying that you are actually present), you will get an additional point.
  3. If you are gating to some place in the screen shot, you will get an additional point.
  4. If you are providing services of Pet Resurrection, you will get an additional point.

At the end of the contest, all the points will be summed up to the best of my ability.

Guild/Alliance points
Along with player names, there will be a compilation of points for guilds. All guilds that are part of the same alliance will count as a same entity unless a guild specifically requests to opt out. The guild/alliance score will be calculated by summing up the number of points earned by each member.

At end of the 4 week period, I will compile the points.. at which point the winners will receive the rewards.

Additional Notes
  1. It is recommended that you have your guild tag on, if you are in a guild.
  2. It is recommended that you make up a random guild and keep your guild tag on, if you are not in a guild.
  3. There is definitely chance for error in the format.. but.. OH WELL!
  4. Yes, you can get a point for being AFK. I encourage people to go AFK at Brit bank.. It is the best way to win some of the rewards!
  5. I will be visiting at all times of day.. even in middle of night.. (points to note #4)
  6. Attempts at being seriously cheeky could qualify you for a disqualification.
  7. If you are concerned about your identity being stolen, then see note #1 and #2.

Sponsorship/Feedback/Assistance

If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to make them in this thread. Random whines are welcome too as it will bump the post!

As indicated earlier, if anyone wants to donate gold (not looking for anything else) to make this even more attractive.. my ICQ is in my signature. If you don't have any gold but would like to still help then spam Luna Bank with books of this contest or gate to WBB from Luna bank during this period.

*This event is sponsored by Columbus Atlantic Player Event Fund*

Other Charity Donations (so far):
  1. Vladimir will drop at least 20M+ gold in checks during the 4 weeks at random times.
  2. Athelas (Treasure Trove Mall) is donating 20M gold towards the final prize
  3. Anonymous donation made of 2M gold (Added to 15th list reward)

  3. Changed the post to make it easier to read.
  4. Added a new reward for Guild contest.
  5. Royal Guard Investigator reward bracket is tuned a little bit to be more flexible as I have no idea what the turnout will be like.

Something Foul Reeks In The Sewer: Dealing With A Thief (Part 1)
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Sunday, May 10, 2009, 2:52 AM EDT by WarderDragon (Baja)
>>> Trammel Facet News <<<I am certain that the majority of you have already been made aware of the tragedy that has befallen the Royal Britannian Guard.

To inform those of you who may not have heard, I shall briefly recount the events that have led up to this point. Dame Sphinx, a junior member of the City Guard of Britain, was sent to search our capitols sewer system in search of a person of interest that had gone missing almost a fortnight ago. There she inadvertantly stumbled upon a strange and very troubling disturbance lurking at the bottom of our sewers labyrinth depths.

I could not slip past them without stepping into the silage or risk them becoming aware of my presence without dodging the lichen and slick rock. One splash or slip would have alerted them. This I managed but barely.

It was then I went onto the next set of passages to find a horde of orcs amassed so large, I could not count the numbers. I was stepping over, under and through them, and how I was not caught only the virtues know!

I suspect their mages are using those horrors to keep us out as they prepare and rally.

That Northern incursion was just a scouting party to find a method into the city unnoticed.

What the recruit managed to discover was not something that any one of us would have anticipated finding beneath our City of Compassion. In fact, it was once standard procedure for the City Guards to inspect the capitols infrastructure on a routine basis and ensure that its defenses were well maintained. Of course, with the rabid incompetence and prevalent nespotism that has been the rule rather than the exception amongst the upper echelons of the kingdoms military, not to mention the great banking collapse that occured four years ago with the rise of the Lunan State, such vital inspections become dismissed as too costly and rather unimportant. Although always dismissed by the hierarchs as heresay and Partisan gossip, some argue that the assassination of the Royal Council and the subsequent invasions were made possible by the aging infrastructure.

Sphinx reported her finding to her superior, Corporal Brackus. Our sources tell us that he forwarded this information to Captain Aino of the Royal Britannian Guard, who responded by sending a contingent of three elite Royal Guards - Sir William, Sir Thomas, and Dame Alexis - into the depths of the sewers to perform their own investigation independant of the City Guard. When they did not return on time, another team was sent after them, only to discover the path to the deep sewer blocked and the password changed. Only a skilled artificer could have manipulated the complex mechanisms controlling the entrance, something beyond the skill and competence of mere demihumans.

Although there has been no confirmation of their deaths, our sources tell us that with what is currently believed to be amassing beneath our feet, there is little hope that the three Royal Guards will be found alive. There has been some talk of blasting a hole through the portal with a cache of explosives, but such measures could have untold consequences for the already weak structure holding our city in place.

In an attempt to learn more about what is currently happening, we caught up with Herald Contributor Nicholas Al'Dracul. Some of you may already know him as "Nicholas the Old", but few know that he is more than a giver of gifts and purveyor of fireworks. The old man is actually a retired soldier, who served alongside Commander Daehan the Lightbringer, Dame Thralu, and Captain Ceno Cottonwood in Dupre's Company during the Second War of Darkness.

Note: Edited For Clarity.

Joshua Harper: Welcome, Lord Al'Dracul. Nicholas the Old: I've not been called that since the Second War. (He appeared to grow slightly uncomfortable for a moment.)

JH: Lady Aino Nystad, Captain of the Royal Guard, sent out a call for volunteers to collect at the First Bank of Britain. She clearly seeks help with the investigation, but why involve mercenaries and hired help? Do you think that says something about the strength of the Royal and City Guard? NtO: I don't think it says anything about the strength of the Royal Guard. Clearly, they are spread very thin, but they are doing their job and are doing it well.

The volunteers are just that. Volunteers. Those who arrived were largely former and retired members of the Royal Militia that served under Commanders Gabriel Kieron, Archimedes the Old, and Lady Sameerah. Others were veterans of the Second and Third Wars of Darkness. I even saw a couple ol' Partisans of Chaos.

JH: Partisan of Chaos? NtO: Yes, a Partisan of Chaos. I would advise you to ignore the propaganda. Chaos does not mean evil. It is merely another philosophy, not unlike the Virtues.

JH: Ah, I agree with you. Please continue. You were talking about the volunteers? NtO: Britannia's veterans are much more worldly, and have the contacts and the know-how to deal with the darker undercurrents of our society.

This is something the young knights and squires of the guard just don't have.

JH: You scouted ahead of the search party. What did you find? NtO: I didn't find much on my first trip, mind you. A infestation of rats. I could've sworn I was being watched, but it was probably just my imagination.

On my second trip, I was waylaid by Corporal Brackus.

JH: Waylaid by Corporal Brackus? NtO: Yes. The lad was concerned my my health. Those noxious fumes can inspire quite a coughing fit, and I suppose I'm not as resilient as I was in my youth.

I asked him if he had any news about the missing guards, and he directed me to the City Bank. He mentioned that Aino would be appearing shortly.

JH: What happened? NtO: She arrived, and began to explain the situation. Clearly, most folks already knew about the disappearance of the three guards.

She asked us to find a person of interest.

JH: A person of interest? NtO: Yes, a rogue of sorts. Someone skilled with riddles.

She asked that we find and question the man. He was rumored to have been last seen wandering the upper levels of the Britain Sewers, but then again, they also say that four Kappa' from the lands of Tokuno have made their home there as well.

JH: Kappa? NtO: Nevermind.

JH: So, did she say what to do with him once you found him? NtO: We've been given a week to investigate the matter.

You can make your submission here.

JH: Do you think this thief is the same man that Recruit Sphinx was sent to investigate? NtO: I suppose nothing is impossible. It isn't the first time the Guard has been willing to work with with scum for the greater good.

JH: According to her report, the sewers are current infested with Orcs. We've recently seen a rise of Orc activity, including a Gulgeth Orc Clan tied to Dawn. You don't think that Dawn is taking an agressive stance in response to Lord Casca's recent ultimatum? NtO: I can assure you that the Dawnite's would do no such thing, Harper. In fact, they've once again thrown caution to the wind and laid aside any grudges, offering men and aid that could be protecting their own Kingdom to help the Royal Guard.

As far as the Gulgeth Orc Clan, they have no qualms with the Britannians.

JH: But they're Orcs, are they not? NtO: ...and they also happen to be far more civilized than most of the youth that call themselves Britannians.

JH: You seem to know a great deal about the Sphinx. Do you two have a history? NtO: I would rather not talk about it.

JH: The healers mentioned that her report might have been a halucination. A result of breathing too much noxious gas. In your opinion, can we trust her report? NtO: You can trust her report. She is more than qualified.

I would like to thank Lord Nicholas for his time.

The investigation is ongoing, and clearly volunteers are still needed. Any who wish to join in the investigation, I am sure that the upper sewers are a good place to begin.

Joshua Harper,
Reporter, The Stratics Herald.

Out of Character:

Seppo has made this a week-long event, and encourages people to continue the investigation throughout the next several days. I don't want to spoil too much, but you will be given the opportunity to write up a report, and trade it for more information in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of William, Thomas, and Alexis.

Dealing With A Thief - Event Information
By EM Seppo

For those that missed the beginning of the quest,

Captain Nystad reiterates the difficulties the Royal Guards are having with rescuing the missing scouts. This is virtually impossible without regaining access to the deep sewers.

She enlists the help of the citizens to seek out a man who is known as Britain’s thief master who resides in the sewers. You are supposed to talk with the thief master and ask him about the keyword to begin the quest.

The quest is short enough for you to finish it in just under an hour, especially if you have help. If you work on yourself without any spoilers then it might take you couple of hours. You can do this quest throughout the week. At the end, you need to submit your report of the investigation via the “contact us” link on the website or submit a book in game at 2:00 PM Sunday May 10th, 8:00 PM Friday 15th.

You will be judged on the quality of your investigation. If found worthy, the thiefmaster will give the password to the deep sewers.
Please note that you are writing your report for the thiefmaster, not Captain Nystad.

Stay tuned throughout the week for more on Something Foul Reeks In The Sewer.

In this week's Five on Friday we cover Factions, Fey Slayers, and events.

Is something going to be done to Dread Warhorse fire breath? It can be precasted by attacking something with the dread, and when it's going to breath you mount it. This is used in PvP a lot. Right when you dismount and say all kill it will breath instantly.

Wow, that’s my fault. We’ll fix it in a Live publish, and wasn’t intended.
-Draconi

--

Faction sigil timers were shortened for the invasions. The invasions are over, yet these short timers continue to exist, slowly killing the way factions were meant to be played. When will they be returned to normal?

Yes! This and point fixes are already scheduled.
-Draconi

--

Will we ever have an event where monsters will drop more/better loot than they normally do?

I imagine so. I know when we’ve released content such as Treasure of Tokuno and the Ilshenar, Fishing, and Treasure Hunting minor artifacts, the players really enjoy that.
-Leurocian

--

Will the 'Fey Slayer' property ever be available on any other weapon, other than the 'Pixie Swatter'?

There are no plans at this time to have any other weapons with the Fey Slayer item property.
-Leurocian

--

When will a more reasonable method of obtaining war horses be available? certain factions stand no chance at holding a town sigil for 8 hours let alone benig able to place the horse breeders.

This is an excellent point, I think we’ll investigate just making it a part of the Faction base interactions

UO Essay: Falling Trees
Return to TopSubmit News! Comment on this article
Posted on Thursday, May 7, 2009, 1:34 PM EDT by Cear Dallben Dragon (Atlantic)

Falling Trees

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Ultima Online is a big world, containing a myriad of virtual objects of every type and description. Animals, monsters, people, plants, and yes, trees too, all abound over nearly seventy million square meters of territory that exists merely as a figment of data in some server's RAM, dutifully backed up on a daily basis.

If UO is a persistent world, does everything keep going, even when players aren't there?

The short answer is: no, unfortunately not. A somewhat commonly known thing amongst our playerbase, for instance, is that mobiles (any dynamic object that can move: animals, monsters, NPCs) don't move when players aren't nearby. This "sleep" behavior was implemented some time ago in order to combat wasted CPU time that bogged down performance for the rest of the game.

The behavior itself is very simple to understand. Every mobile has its own basic AI loop that executes, sets a short delay, and starts over again. This allows every mobile to evaluate its current situation and respond to it, and then turn control of the CPU back over to the rest of the game.

In fact, these loops are very short, and we call them ticks or heartbeats. Rather than give every single object in the game its own individual share of the CPU, we have a main thread that runs as a loop as well, which gives short amounts of time to each object on an as needed basis.

Now, imagine a normal server, like Atlantic. There are over sixty thousand mobiles up and running, all potentially handling their AI loops at any given time. If every mobile tried to execute all the conditions and possibilities available to it, the game would take a gigantic hit in performance. Even worse, imagine if every mobile wanted to actually move.

And so, instead, if players aren’t within a certain distance, those mobiles just go to sleep, waiting for their time to shine.

This became a problem, though, while we were working on the Stygian Abyss expansion.

We wanted to do something we thought would be relatively simple. One of the newer dungeon levels has a series of tombs, each blocked by a gate, hooked to a lever in another room. When the lever is pulled, it should open the gate, releasing the monsters inside.

Now, normally, that means we just send a message to each monster saying "move down the corridor and get ready to meet the player in the main hallway."

So we pulled all the levers, eager to see the suddenly full hallway, and to our surprise, found the hallway quite empty. At least, for a moment! Suddenly the monsters came streaming from left and right, coming out of the tombs, now that someone was there to see them.

Even though we knew about the "sleep" mode for mobiles, we thought we could override it just by directly sending commands to them. This had worked in many other game systems added for live events, such as Sherry the Mouse, an NPC who had a full daily schedule of running around the castle, eating lunch in the kitchen, popping through mouseholes, and generally being cute.

It turns out, we were wrong! The only reason Sherry worked at all when players weren't around was because she could teleport when her movement checks failed, a failsafe originally designed to deal with griefers trying to trap her in the corner.

Ultimately, our resolution is a simple one: we've designed a flag that allows some mobiles to avoid the sleep system, which will be implemented in the new expansion. From here on out, parts of the world will come to life more than ever before, existing and evolving apart from the comings and goings of the average observer.

And while we may not be able to hear a tree chopped down in the woods, and least we know a horde of undead Gargoyles won't be standing idly by when you raid their tombs!

UO Essay: Form Follows Function

Form Follows Function

When we shipped the original Kingdom Reborn client it featured a completely redone map. There was a new waypoint system, icons for locations, and an overhauled look and feel. In fact, you could say the "new look" was more of a "ye olde looke" straight out of the Age of Discovery. A yellowed parchment with faded colors, crinkled edges – far more realistic as a "map" than the old UO way of doing things.

Unlike the 15th century Europeans, however, our own explorers quickly discovered that this absolutely gorgeous remake of our old map was mostly useless. In fact, the parchment version essentially diluted the critical detail that the Legacy client offered, combining large swaths of terrain into abstract blotches of mute hues, rendering distant obstacles and paths invisible.

So much time was spent on the new look and new functionality that when we finally shipped KR, well, the map wasn't even as functional as the Legacy version.

Where the older client would overlay player houses and other objects on top of the map, the KR version couldn't. Then again, it would've looked horrible for the housing art to be dropped atop the beautiful hand-drawn look of the map, so it became a cut feature, amongst several others.

For Stygian Abyss, we approached it from the opposite direction. Much of the unnecessary fluff was pulled out, and we replaced the map with the same kind you'd expect in Legacy – a full bird’s eye view of what's actually in the game, and redesigned the look of the map around how it should be used.

Our lesson learned was that in KR, we tried to make the functionality match the new look (often by cutting features), without success. In SA, we’ve done the opposite, letting the form follow the actual functions the players need.

Thankfully, the engineers have pulled off miracles to get this done, delivering a map system for SA that's actually a complement and improvement over the old one. The artists, too, integrated the result beautifully into the UI. Now it works like Legacy, but has a full Atlas mode (finally giving our players a way to see the whole map without using a 3rd party app). It's even rotated correctly (at a tilt) by default!

Some might miss the parchment look and feel of the KR version - that's understandable. Yet given the choice between the Google Maps of UO, versus a pretty piece of parchment, we wanted to err on the side of giving players more freedom.

Royal Guard Report - Scouting Party Goes Missing!

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Greetings, Fellow Britannians.

Our office has recieved yet another official statement regarding the mysterious gathering of demihumans currently taking place in the cavernous sewers beneath Britain. A contingent of three Royal Guards - Sir William, Sir Thomas, and Lady Alexis - were dispatched to the location of the reported disturbance. When they did not return, another party was sent after them, and found the pathway into the deep sewers blocked.

It would seem that it is more than simple demi-humans at work here. Our thoughts go out to the families of the three missing Royal Guards.

Joshua Harper,
Reporter, The Stratics Herald.

Royal Guard Report

Upon the captain's directive, a team of Royal Guards was dispatched to the sewers to investigate and scout ahead. But when they did not report back at the agreed upon time, over 12 hours ago and counting, we sent another team to trace their steps. Much to the surprise of all involved, the password CHARVORY failed to transport the second team to the deep sewers.

So the situation, as it stands, is that we have no idea about the whereabouts of the original team and with the password no longer functioning, we have no means to reach the deep sewers. The working assumption is that the original team was ambushed and subsequently, their assailants managed to close or hide the rift to their lair.

We are actively working to solve this mystery and ensure the safe return of our comrades. In the meantime, the Royal Guards stationed in the city of Britain have been put on alert.

Names of the Royal Guards comprising the original team are as follows, 1) Thomas 2) William 3) Alexis

Brief Summary:

A town guard discovered an alarming congregation of monsters in a secret lair within the sewers that may only be accessed via a password. A team of Royal guards was sent to investigate but they failed to report back. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the password to the secret lair no longer works.

This makes up the back story of the event which will start this Saturday at 3:00 PM PST. You do not need to be online at the start to participate in the first part of this event. You will have a chance to participate throughout the week.

The Festival of the Way

The Festival of the Way
From the quill of Shae from the TB factions.

Some of ye mayhaps have heard of the one named The Widow, and some of ye mayhaps not.

The Widow is a mysterious fortune teller who has seen a grand festival on its way. This festival is to honor an old and long forgotten powerful Thaumaturge who had passed on many, many years ago and the Four who traversed to his entombment but alas did not make it. Below is the storyteller Ceno, Lord of the Way's rendition of these events that took place.

And so on Friday the 8th  May of 2009, we shall honor the Thaumaturge and the Four by reenacting their journey; when we reach the end we shall revel! So come one and come all to a grand celebration and help us turn this into the first TRUE Ultima holiday. We hope to hold this every year and hope to have all shards one day partake in the festival every second Friday of the fifth month.

When: 05/08/09
Time: 8:00PM PST
Where: Lord British Castle
PS: All shards are welcome to come and participate

The Festival of the Way

Written by: Ceno, Lord of the Way
Shard: Baja

Many years ago there was one of the greatest Thaumaturge's of our lands history to date. He was revered and honored where ever he may be but spent most of his time in the City of Dawn, which laid between Britain and Trinsic and the city was suspended in time, never aging. He would visit Dawn often so he could further advance his understanding of art arcane. But sadly, with all his knowledge of the art arcane he was not able to save himself from an unknown illness. And so in honoring the Thaumaturge he was to be entombed in the most magical of places, in the center of the City of Dawn. Throughout the land the people planned to gather and celebrate the passing of such a great Thaumaturge, one particular group consisted of four travelers seeking passage to the City of Dawn.

The first, was a shepherdess and the Thaumaturge's niece. The second was a bard whose voice was known throughout the Realm. He would go to sing the dirge. The third, was a provisioner, a simple seller of rations, who secretly practiced the dark arts in the cellar of his shop. He would go hoping to steal the ring that the Thaumaturge was rumored to wear. Some believe that this ring held the Thaumaturge's true power. And the fourth, was a young, strapping fighter. Who went simply to see the spectacle.

And so, the four filled their skins with the Water of Life which still flows to this very day from the Fountain in Lord British's Castle. They set out on the second Friday of the fifth month from the Castle and made their way South towards Trinsic. But alas, they never made it, nor did they ever find the City. For perhaps they did not know its secret way of entering the city where the two moons Felucca and Trammel had to align just right and the gate would only open for a very short period of time.

And so, it is said that the four would wander North to South, and then South to North. season after season searching for The Way. Soon the shepherdess began to look over her shoulder and swore she saw some sort of dreadful ghost wearing a hooded shroud dyed the deepest, darkest black anyone has ever laid eyes upon and the material seemed as if it were as light as the air itself was following them. But whenever any of the four would turn to look, the hooded figure was no where to be found.

They wandered for many seasons until their very tracks would make the road which runs to this day from Britain to Trinsic. This would become the main thoroughfare of our World, and would shape this Realm into the cities and settlements which we all know today. And the City of Dawn, now a Kingdom, has since emerged from the Ethereal Void which it once was and rests east of the dungeon Wrong on the Felucca side of the Baja shard.

Something Foul Reeks In The Sewer - I

>>> Trammel Facet News <<<Greeting, readers.

We've recieved a copy of the report submitted by Captain Nystad. The original can be found tacked to the bulliten board of the Golden Brew Tavern.

Joshua Harper,
Stratics Herald Reporter.

An urgent missive sent to the Royal Guards by Captain Nystad with an attached report.

Title: A disturbing find of the most urgent nature! Requires full investigation!

Hail, this afternoon, I ventured down the sewers of Britain accompanied by a mere recruit and a citizen. My purpose was to investigate a disturbing report, submitted by the said recruit, regarding foul activity. In hindsight, I probably should have taken the original report (see the attached copy) more seriously.

I will be brief and merely state that everything mentioned in the report is true! To gain entrance into the “deep sewers”, one needs to say the word Charvory. I do believe that this is the same site where Inu the crone was held captive few years back.

Regardless, I have asked the town recruits to stay away from the sewers, lest we risk our enemies finding out that we are aware of their presence. I recommend that we send an advance party of Royal Guards to scout the area and prepare a detailed plan.

Salutations,

Captain Nystad

Attached copy of the original report:

As requested is my report on the situation as found beneath in the sewers of the city.

I have had a very difficult time writing this, as the memories and visions still haunt my mind fiercely.

The healers think that some of the noxious gasses that I inhaled, causing me to pass out cold on the floor of the deeper sewer tunnels, have had something to do with things being as bad as they are. They say that its possible some of the fumes caused me to hallucinate or for the experiences down there to become manifest tenfold stronger than what was actually occurring.

I know what I saw sir!

I know what I saw and its not a good sight to be seeing these things.

I went down and looked around where one might expect a vagabond to be in an effort to dig up this Carl you told me of. I do not think the sleeping area I found was his. It was long disused, but I found a plaque covered in code.

It took me somewhile but I did crack the code, and promptly found myself on a whole new level of the sewers sir! Places I have never seen or been to before. The problem is that as soon as I was rifted to this place within the labyrinth that makes up our sewers, I nearly passed out cold before I could explore any further. There are some right noxious gasses down there, corporal!! It reeked something chronic and the ethers out of it were sickening in no small amount. They overtook me and I passed out cold on the floor. I awoke a few moments later to find myself staring into skeletons of people that ha-

*here the wording jiggles about shaken to illegibility. A few words are scratched out with ink blots from the quill*

They were those who’d been down here before, sir! I recognized some of them bones as belonging to the Th-

*the rest of the word is illegible due to the shakiness of the handwriting*

They were people, sir! Easily missed if you are standing, due to the stagnant water in the corridor. However, since my face was down in the stuff it was noticeable under the water with the torch so close. I threw up my meals for that day then and there in the tepid waters.

When I’d made it past that corridor, thank the jewels of Seber Ahmet, I allowed myself some time to regain my senses from that stench of near death. I was to climb down the ladders only to arrive at yet another horrific sense.

What awaited me was a small lichen laden corridor of slosh and stinking silage filled with the poison that eats and the corrosion that walks. It filled the very narrow corridor from one end to the other.

I wager their presence is behind the rats being drove up en masse to the city surface, corporal.

Salutations,

Recruit Sphinx

The Cove Council Museum

Ooguk had been writing Xug'Klerg for a while now, wanting Xug to do a review on his house. Xug, being a war chief, and always busy, decided to send a human friend known as Palin to do the review instead. Surprisingly, the orc was home. Ooguk did not hesitate to get into a battle stance, like all vicious orcs. Lucky for Palin that he can speak their tongue. Palin calmed the orc down and explained why he was there, and thus, the review began.

The first floor had some rares on it that Palin had never seen before, including a dark purple glacial staff. In the corner of the tower, there was a room for crafting, it had a forge and anvil and everything else a crafter needs, and some more rares.

The second floor was the most pleasing for Palin, one of the rooms reminded him of a hunting lodge that you would see up in the snowy mountains of the woods that he had once lived in.

Palin shivered as soon as he looked at the third floor, he sensed much evil around him. Typical for orcs to have evil, there was a pentagram with a ankh with a human skeleton hanging from it, there was definitely rituals going on this tower. Palin wanted to waste no more time on this floor.

The top floor had one of every mini-house, and all the one year reward statues, there was also two statues of two gentlemen, Baron and Onyx Blackstone, and some gold and treasure around it, something any orc would set eyes on, and not be able to take them off. There was also a shield that Palin was fascinated with, which contained 15 Hit Chance Increase and 15 Defense Chance Increase.

Avalon Town Hall Reborn!

Avalon Town Hall Reborn!
By WildStar

On Wednesday, February 11th, 2009 at 6:17 AM PST, the Avalon Town Hall’s walls collapsed and the items inside fell to the ground.  Upon discovering this, the members of the Baja Roleplaying and Event Alliance (BRPA) immediately sought out various ways to contact EMs Seppo and Pallando,  including leaving messages on skypages and in their message book in their office and camping out at said office.  EM Pallando appeared in the office to say that EM Seppo had heard the sad news and that he would be back later.  Members of BRPA continued to wait until Pallando appeared again and asked to be taken to the Avalon Town Hall Site.

The site was truly a mess.  After looking around Pallando excused himself and vanished.

When he returned it was with Game Developer Mesanna.

The situation was explained to Mesanna.  The players asked if there was a way to preserve the site so that the Seer blessings on the ground and in the air would not be deleted by a GM and another building placed on it.  We also asked if it was possible for a memorial to be put on the site, then showed her the Dead Dove Memorial, which is located a few screens west of the Town Hall, as an example. Mesanna did not promise anything but said that she would look into it.

We received word thru EM Seppo that something would be done to preserve the history of Avalon and Baja.  Mesanna showed up at the Roleplayers Meeting called by Nicholas the Old and let us know what she and the development team had come up with.  Their plan was to sort out and organize the rubble and they asked for input. The ideas were submitted to Mesanna thru EM Seppo.

Today – Sunday, May 3, 2009 – around 9:30 PM PDT I recalled to Avalon to see if anything had been done with the site.  To my surprise, Mesanna was there. She had already sorted out the rubble and had the platform rebuilt on the ground with a few items already on it.  I briefly spoke with her then left.  I did not inform anyone except one person because I felt that Mesanna would appreciate peace and quiet while she worked on the site.  I returned later and she was still working on it.  Around 3:30 PM PDT, Seppo declared the project mostly done.

We would like to thank Mesanna, EM Seppo and EM Pallando for all of their effort and hard work to help us preserve the history of Baja.

Alchemist's Apprentice

Posted on Sunday, May 3, 2009, 5:43 PM EDT by Katlene (Oceania)
Citizens gathered in the room with Lucy in the barracks at Castle Britannia. After a short wait Captains Duffield and Cotume came through the Doors.

Ellis Duffield: Hello Royal Guards and volunteers
Undertaker: hail
Katlene: So captains... to what do we owe this visit?
Viktor Cotume: I am glad you asked, my lady, we have a special treat for you all this day.
Katlene: ooh?
Ellis Duffield: *Surveys the gathered crowd*
Viktor Cotume: It seems an alchemist of some renown visiting our realm.
Daniella: Damn those pot makers.
Viktor Cotume: He has asked us to test all our followers to see who is skilled in his profession. There is a rumour he seeks an Apprentice.
Ellis Duffield: *nods*
noX: so... we need alchemy?
Viktor Cotume: No, NoX.
Viktor Cotume: All can take part.
Ellis Duffield: Apprentices don't need to know much
Fink: I'm a shoe-in
Viktor Cotume: Now, shall we away? He has prepared a lab of sorts for our... trials.
Ellis Duffield: *spies a few worthy apprentices in the crowd*
Viktor Cotume: This way.

Viktor motioned for us to follow him outside the barracks and then open a moongate to our destination.
When everyone walked through they found themselves at the councillors hall in Serpent’s Hold.
A large wall of sorts had been erected separating the room into halves.

Viktor Cotume: All those who wish to enter, could you stand around the statues, please.

Now, listen carefully as I will only say this once.
We will select three people. You will be teleported into the area here.

He pointed towards the area over the wall

The three of your selected, will choose a station. Either, one, two or three.
These will be a series of heats. We will pick the winner of the round, to advance to the next round.
Very simple, if you are the fastest, you advance.
Do we understand?
Daniella: *nods*
Viktor Cotume: When you are at your station, a book will be placed in your pouch.
You will have 5 seconds to read it before we say 'go!' You will need to gather each ingredient listed in the book. These can be found in cases in this area.
Once you have gathered all the ingredients, you need to EMOTE…
*Grinds the potion*
This will inform Ellis and I, that you have finished.
Ellis Duffield: *nods*
Viktor Cotume: We will wait for all three to finish, and then check your work.
The person who was fastest and has the CORRECT ingredients in their pouch will advance to the next round
Do we understand?
Fink: I think so
Daniella: *nods*
Viktor Cotume: Let me see your emotes
Dang: *Grinds the potion*
Fink: *Grinds the potion*
Daniella: *Grinds the potion*
Deneya: *Grinds the potion*
point and click: *grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: *Grinds the potion*
Chomper of Souls: *grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Excellent.
Ellis Duffield: Good work people
Viktor Cotume: Once you enter this area, stand behind a station
If you run around and be silly, you will be removed. So try and contain yourselves.
Any questions? Leave your mounts over there, please.
Ellis Duffield: Straighten up guards, prepare yourself. This is serious work.
Viktor Cotume: First three... Deneya, Chomper of Souls & Drokz
Feel free to move to the border to watch while the rounds are taking place.
Right… Are you three brave fellows ready?
Deneya, Chomper of Souls & Drokz, replied in unison with a 'yes'
Viktor Cotume: Remember; wait for my 'go' to begin.

Open your books. They are in your pouches.
Ready...
And...
GO!
Deneya, Chomper of Souls & Drokz ran around the room looking in all the boxes for the ingredients listed in their books

Chomper of Souls: *grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Chomper. We will check your work when the others are done.
Remember to grind...Once the items are in place.
Deneya: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Deneya, second to finish.
Drokz: i give up
Viktor Cotume: And a forfeit.
Ellis Duffield: Royal Guards don't just give up!
Viktor looked through the items that Chomper of Souls and Deneya had collected,
Viktor Cotume: You both have the right combination, Chomper was the fastest.
Viktor Cotume: Chomper of Souls advances to round two.

Daniella: *claps*
Ellis Duffield: Well done
Chomper of Souls: thank you

Viktor Cotume: Right!
Another three!
Katlene Fink Daniella were selected for the next round.
When I place the book in your pouch, you have five seconds to read it. Then gather your ingredients.
Daniella: Ok.
Viktor Cotume: Place them in your pouch BEFORE you grind. On my 'go!' you can proceed.
Ellis Duffield: *nods*
Viktor Cotume: Read your books.
Ready...
And...
GO!
The next three took off in search of the listed items

Fink: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Fink.
Daniella: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Daniella.
Katlene: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: And Katlene.
Viktor Cotume: We will check your work.
Ellis Duffield: This looks quite close. Very speedy grinders!.

Viktor Cotume: Aye. Fink was the fastest, Fink advances to round two
Good work ladies!
Katlene: Congrats Fink!
Daniella: Congrats Fink.
Ellis Duffield: Well done
Viktor Cotume: Now let me see...Three more...
Toilet scrubber, point and click & Andruin were next to try.
Viktor Cotume: We will place a book in your pouch. You will have five seconds to read it.
Ellis Duffield: It's not a lot to read
Viktor Cotume: Then when we say 'Go' you can proceed and gather the needed ingredients. When you have gathered the ingredients listed in the book, place them in the pouch then grind.
Wait for my Go…
Go!
Same thing again, the three ran around and collected the ingredients listed in their potion recipe.

Viktor Cotume: Point and click.
Toilet scrubber
Andruin
Point and click was the winner of this round.
If you haven't had a turn wait over here please
Has everyone had a turn that wishes to? No second chances for people who fool around.
Katlene, Deneya?
Katlene: love to
Deneya: alright
Viktor Cotume: Very well. Because we have returning players, we will make it a different potion.
Are we ready?
Deneya: yes
Peter: yes
Ellis Duffield: *nods*
Viktor Cotume: Open your books!
And...
GO!

Katlene: *Grinds the potion*
Deneya: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Katlene!
Peter: *grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Deneya!
And Peter. We will check your work
Incorrect, Peter.
Ellis?
Ellis Duffield: Correct ingredients here
Viktor Cotume: I believe Katlene was quickest with her grinding.
Katlene advances.
Well done, Deneya and Peter.
Katlene: *smiles*
Peter: thank you
Ellis Duffield: Good work

Viktor Cotume: This will be the last round to see who advances.
Toilet Scrubber Andruin & Daniella were the next three to try.
Daniella was first to return to her station, grind and have the correct items.

Viktor Cotume: Daniella is correct. You may remain there.
This is the second round of play! The potions become trickier!
Daniella, Katlene and Fink. Try your hardest. Open your books!
And.... Go!

Daniella: *Grinds the potion*

Viktor Cotume: Daniella!
Fink: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Fink!
Katlene: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Katlene!
Daniella advances! Her work is correct!
Fink: *clap*
Viktor Cotume: You are eliminated, sorry Fink and Katlene
Good work making it this far.

Next round. We have an odd number, so it will just be you two.
Chomper of Souls and Lady point and click
Are we ready?
Chomper of Souls: yes
point and click: yes
Viktor Cotume: Something nice and tricky for you both...

Let me see... Jhelom's Curing Remedy!
Open your books.
Ready...
And...
GO!
Wait till you see what you have to make next, Daniella. *Rubs his hands together*
Just as the wicked grin faded from Captain Cotume’s face, someone threw a conflagration potion into the area that Chomper of souls was working, impairing all vision of his table...
Chomper of Souls: what?
Deneya: that is not fair
point and click: *grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Stop!
I'm sorry. We'll have to try that again. That was clearly unfair.
Just a moment…
a moment passes
We have made a decision.
Both of you will advance to the final round. And I would advise against your friend throwing a potion.
Remain where you are.
Daniella was brought into the area
This is the final round, try and be civil. Let us have a nice, fair heat.
No potions.
The winner of this heat... Let us talk of your prize. The alchemist has sponsored an article to be placed in the Reward Hall in Malas, With your name and full honours on it.
I'm sure you all know the drill by now. This potion though... very tricky.
Open your books
On my signal...
Go!
Chomper of Souls: *grinds the potion*
point and click: *grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: Chomper!
Daniella: *Grinds the potion*
Viktor Cotume: point and click
Daniella!
We will check your work… Chomper, missed an item.
Well, Daniella has the correct ingredients... but was not the fastest.
That means point and click is the winner!

Ellis Duffield: Well done
Viktor Cotume: Very good work, point and click!
Ellis Duffield: A true alchemist in the making
Viktor Cotume: We will be adding an item in your honour to the Reward Hall very soon.
Good try Chomper and Danie!
Viktor Cotume: Perhaps we may run this again at some stage.
Viktor Cotume: If we have enough interest
Ellis Duffield: The alchemist might need more than one apprentice
Viktor Cotume: Thank you all for coming today.

EM Seppo Announces Baja PvP House/Arena at Felucca Meet & Greet, April 30

EM Meet & Greet, Felucca
April 30, 2009

Two players were waiting for the EMs at the Felucca EM Hall when I arrived.

EM Seppo surprised us by appearing in the middle of the table.

When asked what types of events the Felucca players want, Sephiroth mentioned a 'King of the Hill' type PvP event.

EM Seppo informed us of Baja's new EM-owned PvP House/Arena which is located in T2A.

The main portal vortex is located near the Felucca Jhelom moongate, and is the only method of entry into the PvP House/Arena area. (No recalling or gating into or out of the PvP area.)

The way out is a vortex that exits near the entrance vortex.

Unfortunately the Felucca Meet & Greet was disrupted before further discussion of the house and ideas for Felucca events, so I headed over to catch the end of the Trammel Meet & Greet.

In this week's Five on Friday we cover flying, more on the SA client, and Potions.

I am curious about the gargoyle racial ability to fly as fast as a galloping horse as stated in the SA part of UO herald. Will this ability be dismountable?

Players will be able to "dismount" gargoyles that are flying around.
-Leurocian

--

Even when dismount wears off is there a casting time to initiate the flying?

The current plan is that there will be some sort of take off delay. Similar to Ethy mounts or the Charger of the fallen.
-Leurocian

--

With regular mounts you can dismount the person and poison them. Is there going to be a way to ground the flying gargoyle for longer then the dismount timer the same way as a human/elf?

We will be looking at flying closely and comparing it with the human/elf mounts.
-Leurocian

--

Will flying be possible in the felucca or just in the new areas introduced with SA?

Er, yes, yes they can fly anywhere.

Flying lets the Gargoyles move at mounted speed, and also access special areas that would normally be impassable to the earthbound creatures.

Ter Mur will contain most of those special areas, but the other facets will have a few as well.

Regardless, Gargoyle can *fly* at any time, as far as movement speed goes.
-Draconi

--

Is the SA client going to be a top down 2d view like 2d and KR or is it going to be more like a 3d world like world of warcraft?

The SA client is an evolution of the Kingdom Reborn client. Our goal was to take everything the majority of our players hated about KR and either fix it or remove it. So to answer your question, the SA client will be using the same “isometric” view as the 2d and KR clients.
-Supreem

--

What are the plans for potions? Are healing potions going to be nerfed with the timer mentioned? Are other potions going to be affected?

These changes have been put on hold while we focus our attention on finishing the SA expansion. We will probably take another look at these changes once things get back to normal around here.

I just purchased a dirt patch (the item), thinking that I could fill plant bowls with it. I was sadly (and sorely! *squeezes pocketbook*) mistaken. I swore I read it somewhere! *scratches head* Will we ever be able to use this dirt to fill plant bowls?

This falls into the “oversight” category. We’ll come up with some cool uses for them in the future.

The fires are dying down in the city of Luna. Soon the cleanup crew will begin removing the rubble that’s left from the blazing fires once a week. Once the rubble has been removed a house will be able to be built where the rubble used to lie. The cleanup crew will visit a different shard every week until all of the rubble has been removed.

Ultima Online Stratics is Again Pleased to Announce:

Our continuing update project brings you this week new and updated information on Blacksmithing & Mining, Community Collections, being a Rune Librarian and Resizing your House, in addition to re-worked menu listings in both left and right side bars.

We thank Basara and Lady Aalia for their hard work! Readers, posters and lurkers are cordially invited to grab 'a piece of the action' by submitting information to [email protected]. We're still missing some 'mug shots' for the Replicas listing and most of the 'professions' guides need work.

Next week's pages are expected to include a re-work of 'The Bard' .
