Hythloth is a very challenging dungeon, with many good lockpicking areas. Unless you are a bard or a tamer with a few good pets, it is not a good place to go alone.
There are many traps in this dungeon. Level one and two are full of them. The ones on levels 3 and 4 tend to be in rooms with lots of nasty monsters also.

The chests here are not really level 1's, but more of a hybrid. They require slightly more LP skill than normal level 1's (56 instead of 52), have poison traps instead of
dart traps, and actually carry less gold than normal level 1's do. Not a terribly demanding area, the only danger is if someone opens the door and lets the imps and hounds in. A good alternative to
Vesper bank for beginning lockpickers. |

These gargoyles will not open doors, so it is fairly safe in this area unless someone opens the door to the gargoyle room. The chests spawn both in the hallway and in the small room to the North. Some
of them will be inside one of the cells that you cannot get into. This area is probably not worth using. With too many floor traps, too many monsters to bother you and not being able to pick all the chests, it is hardly worth
the amount of gold you would take out, and beginners would do far better in area 1 of this level or in Vesper bank. |
