UO Stratics - Hunter's Guide - Lesser Hiryu
The Lesser Hiryu

General Information
The Lesser Hiryu is a younger version of the feathered Hiryu. The feathers of the Lesser Hiryu can unlike the normal one only be shades of green and blue in addition to the normal grey.

The Lesser Hiryu is slightly weaker than the normal Hiryu, but it is still able to dismount and lower your physical resistance with it vicious claw.

Just like the normal Hiryu, it is also possible to tame the Lesser, but it is almost just as hard. Once tamed it will obey the orders of anyone, but only a tamer or a master of the art of Bushido will be able to ride it. Like the normal Hiryu, the lesser will also have its stats halved when it is tamed.

No Longer Held by Anyone

Looks like you need 90+ taming or 90+ Bushido to even own one now.

Tamers

I've found that getting it down to practically 50 health and then taming is great. That way, it's slow and will occasionally run off rather than attack you as much. Good Luck :]

taming

was impossible to tame at 100
I tested by running the bugger around until it got stuck somewhere
then I stood safely a tile away and set up a macro to repeatedly attempt to tame.
Ran for 2 hours to no avail, was 100 taming, 100 lore.
I put on a +10 taming ring and tamed the sucker on the 3rd attempt.

Easy to kill for an archer
Submitted by Anonymous on March 1st 2007.
I've got about 85 archery, and with my 44% lightning crossbow, I can stay the hell out of its way and drop one in about 20 seconds. It's an easy 1000gp for an archer. (Except for the pain in the ass elite ninjas who invariably show up and make nuisances of themselves.)

Great for Non Tamers

Great pet for a warrior or archer since you don't need taming to own it, ride your swampy and bring this thing along for its lower physical resist attack or dismount attack (PvP) and either team up and take something down fast or let it attack and sit back shooting arrows.

Not That good

Yeah, sure, they are pretty good for people that don't have enough taming for an actual Hiyru, but if you ever sent a hiyru against a lesser, the hiyru would kick the lesser's butt. Seriously. I would recommend a real Hiyru, no a lousy lesser.

What can I say?
Submitted by Anonymous on December 23rd 2006.
They are pretty easy to tame....If you have a peacer. they will try to kill you as soon as they see you. They are ok in fighting, but a full Hiyru is better. I recommend this animal for people who are satisfied with fighting in a graveyard or something. These animals can kill, and they do.but if you test it out with about 5-6 fire elementals at the same time without healing, most likely its gonna die.

This guy + bake or mara owns better than Hiryu or WW+mara

not too bad
Submitted by Anonymous on February 14th 2006.
I have 108 taming, and I tamed one w/o peace or anything else. I just stayed a little bit ahead of him and kept clicking tame, even though I kept 'making him' angry, eventually I tamed him.

good for training...
Submitted by Anonymous on November 29th 2005.
i have rought 93 swordsmanship and 56 bushido (just got bushdio like yesturday) and these things are great to train on, just joust and heal, if you hit 50 bushido it's very easy, i use my deffence increase cleaver to get the EoO hit in, then use my macro to switch to my soul seeker (Saves mana because it already does cold damage) i get about .2 gains every time i kill one (plus the 1k gold and good items i get:P) but it's almost imposible for me to stand and melee them (ie usualy while fighting them another one desides to help it, a normal hiryu jumps in, or 2-3 ninja's wanna play too) so i just run a few screens, see what follows till i get a ninja alone, or the lesser or normal alone (if however i have all the ninja's (i had 6 on my tale when i did this) i brought them to a monk and he helped me kill them :>) oh, and as it says in the description of these, they can be controled by anyone, just need bushido or taming to ride. Happy Hunting

Brutal creatures

These guys are no jokes. They can kill someone within a few hits if they want to. So don't go messing around with them unless you're sure you know what you're doing.

These guys are as powerful as tamed dragons, great for a samurai

A good mage strategy
Submitted by Anonymous on July 16th 2005.
get a dragon slaying spellbook and they can be e-bloted to death very quickly.

better than your regular hiyru
Submitted by Anonymous on July 16th 2005.
i prefer lesser hiyrus, less control slots and never get confused. plus there colors are awsome! i've seen em in blue, red spoted, green and even yellow! they are great for a nice colorful dragonish farm.

say hello...

If ur not a tamer, but you have 90+ bushido, and you you want one of these things, just buy one and you can ride it if you DO have 90+ bushido. also, these things make extremely handy pets to fight alongside, even for a warrior, especially in the yomotsu mines

Yowch!
Submitted by Anonymous on June 8th 2005.
These things are more common than the regulars but they can still kill me in 1 hit with 120 parry and 70 physical resist. I have to have my friend peace over and over again, plus rez me. Takes me forever to tame with 120 tame and lore too.

What fun

Get 90+ Bushido, then you can have a handy helper for you... does great damage for a melee fighter or archer.

Taming with a Mage
Submitted by Anonymous on March 6th 2005.
A Mage/Tamer can tame these guys pretty easily. All you have to do is mindblast them to about 1/4 their health and then stay a little ahead of them. As a general rule of thumb, try and draw one out away from other monsters, and be careful of Elite Ninja's that like to pop up at the worst possible moment.

not so hard to tame
Submitted by Anonymous on February 19th 2005.
I've tamed six of these in the last few hours.. the first with no jewellery at 100 taming which took MANY attempts and a few deaths. Bumped this up to 110 taming and they're easy. Take an ethereal mount so if they dismount you there's no worrying about your horse. Can tame them at full health with no magery or peace by just letting it get close, spamming a tame last target macro, then staying a couple of squares ahead while it chases you.
