UO Stratics - Hunter's Guide - Dragon
The Dragon

General Information

Dragons are no longer passive and do attack on sight. They have a tremendous number of hit points. However, if you can manage to tame one, you will have an exceedingly dangerous pet at your disposal. Blade Spirits and Energy Vortices DO NOT WORK on Dragons; the Dragons simply dispel them. They cast magic spells from circles 1 thru 7, without the summoning and area effect spells except mass curse.

I just kill a para dragon at valor forest, take about 15 mins, only way to drain down its life is use armour ingore on top of EoO and CW, i did not use any potion just to try out it strenght as compare to ancient wyrm, i think both are equally strong although a normal Ancient wyrm have lesser HP but it hit much more harder, i saw a para greater dragon this morning, but i don't think my paladin can have any chance to kill it, when it come after me, i just teleport away.

As of Febuary 14th a new breed of dragon called the "Greater Dragon" or "Super Dragon" depending on how you talk to exists. They have roughly 1.75x the hit points of normal dragons when tamed and default with 115 magery.

When not tamed these Greater Dragons do all sorts of crazy things. Their fire breath does about 80 damage a smack and their bite something similar to that against someone with 70 resists. They pull out a larger variety of spells then your average monster also, often teleporting to their prey and doing a nice one-two punch.

They drop slightly more gold and gems then your regular dragon.

Dragon farmers and extinct... thank god.

Beware when encountering these beasts.

dragon and drake

a dragon and a drake can take down a red in like 6 secs

not so easy tame
Submitted by Anonymous on August 20th 2007.
they're fire breath's a bit of a pain, but you can fix that by hurting it real bad...
till like 50 hp can do it
terrible to calm, since u need 105+ skill...
just macro "use skill animaltaming > wait for target > last target" and u'll get over the angers! ;D

EV's DO work
Submitted by Anonymous on August 8th 2007.
A general contradiction to the statement on EV's and blade spirits NOT working on Dragons.. EV's DO work.. I kill several dragons a day with this method. Just keep them off the edge of the screen and try to get two EV's working at a time. It takes a little patience, but it works very well. Be aware that Dragons can and will teleport on top of you, hitting you for 50+ damage, and often will poison you and flame strike you at the same time as well.

Para Dragons are beatable(melee)
Submitted by Anonymous on January 29th 2006.
I fought a para Dragon today in the kirin passage.
With 120 Bushido and a little Chiv, they can be taken down - Just ensure Evasion is constantly up as their Firebreath will/can kill instantly.
Harder than fighting an AW(non para) because of the longevity of the fight and they hit slightly harder.

Trade off attacks

I'm surprised no one bothered to add blood oath as a way to kill a dragon. If your on that transition phase and dragons are just barely in your reach, casting blood oath will work wonders in dealing damage. The dragon will pratically kill itself for you. The only thing is it doesn't last long due to the dragons high resist.

Very easy to melee as a necro/pally/fighter. EO, Curse Weapon. If you're a vampire with full 70's suit, even better. With a soul seeker I can melee a dragon without ever moving a step or healing myself.

Dragons are too simple as a tamer.

I go into destard with my dragon and my mare and we can take out 5 or 6 at a time. Not like they used to be that's for sure.

Best for doom gauntlet
Submitted by Anonymous on September 3rd 2005.
I have never understood why ppl are saying ww 's are better than these at gauntlet. With a ww darkfather hits you like 110 with its flamestrike but only 30 to dragons...

Samurai

With decent Bushido these guys aren't even challenging anymore. Just go one on one and make the ol' "lightning-whack-whack-whack" and they go down real fast. Just don't forget "evasion" - the firebreath still is nasty.

bard warrior combo
Submitted by Anonymous on July 13th 2005.
My friend whose an elder warrior on his way to legendary brings a slayer weap and luck suit with almost no resistance. I am completely without armor; being a bard I peace them and he kills them in about seven or eight hits.

Easy for the necro
Submitted by Anonymous on July 1st 2005.
though most of my friends agree, destards pretty easy for the veterin fighters, a necro can own destard if there's at least one fighter or pally, or if you're a necro fighter, all ya need is yourself, the fighter act's as a patsy so the necro and summon a renvant, dragons don't dispell renvants, plus dragon courpses turn into flesh golems, so after a while a necro has 3 fleshy's, a few liches (from drakes0 and all he needs to do is summon a renvant while his undead kills the thing, pretty easy.

So so easy..

I, Lord Veiko and my powerful tamer companion can take these down incredibly easily. My companion, Lady Lister and I can clear out the whole of Fire Temple; just peace or provoke and let the rune beetle and nightmare do the rest. So easy, and great for gold. If the spawn gets a little on top of you, simple have the bard cast a few EVs to deal with the drakes and daemons.
It's also a good tactic to set ur pets on the dragon, and provoke lesser monsters onto the dragon too. Works well for us, I used to fear dragons, now I laugh at them.

i killed a dragon with this combination, and i have 79 magery, and i was alone...just paralyze it and use energy bolt or flamestrike...

Nice ones
Submitted by Anonymous on January 27th 2005.
As I was hunting them today with friends (we're weak!) the result was about 20 slayed dragons lying in Valor jungle... Sweet. Well, they are a challenge. However, they can take some time. Nice time :)

Just another monster sadly
Submitted by Kainz on December 30th 2004.
These one great beasts are nothing in todays ultima. Weak and hunted down and killed with ease thanks to todays OTT weps. The fear factor of these great creatures has long gone.

Fighters just need to grab a dragon slayer wep and use enemy of one (if pally) and just joust away. Paragon dragons on teh other hand is how they once were! Fireballs that can kill even with maxxed out resists, bucketloads of mana, they're just lethal. I've seen tamer's pets drop 2-3 times fighting the paragon versions.

not that easy as paragon
Submitted by Anonymous on December 20th 2004.
there fire breath killed my srcher with one hit, and yes i had 70 fire resist. but it was worth it to run and get rezzed many times, chest M arty

Use posion

it has a few magery, so it is not table to cure high level potion - infectious strike + shadow strike and wait
