UO Stratics - Hunter's Guide - Giant Beetle
The Giant Beetle

General Information

The Giant Beetle is another one of the results of the failed Decay spell cast by the Meer. It can be found in the Solen Hice along with some of the other creatures changed by the spell.

The Beetle is quite a strong and fast fighter, when it is hit with a ranged attack it will run towards its attaker with an incredible speed until it catches up and hits him.

Once it has taken enough damage it will be beaten into subjugation, which will allow animal tamers to tame it. Due to the beating the Beetle will lose a great deal of its Stats and Skills when tamed.

Once the Beetle has been tamed it can be used as a mount AND as a pack animal, which like a Pack Horse can carry 1600 stones. Because it is both a mount and a pack animat it requires 3 control slots to own it. No taming skill is required to own or ride it.

If the Beetles pack is very full and you mount it, it will become overweight and you will not be able to move very fast without it running out of stamina.

(The Beetles pack can be accesed by using its context menu while you are not mounted)

These are very very easy to tame. I tame tons of them. All I do is find one and lore it away from the others, and since I dont have eval on my tamer only magery, I peacemake then cast an EV and dispel it at the right time. And well-a!

very easy to tame

im a mage tamer and all i have to do is summon a fire elemental, and when the beetle starts to run away, i release the elemental and tame the beetle, which i easily corner into a wall since its running away

Simple if you know how

I've tamed a lot of these for friends and myself alike. I'm a mage/tamer, and all I do is get one to target me without doing anything to it and then I cast a blade spirit. All you have to do is dispel it in the nick of time and tame the beast. I would suggest going to the solen hive in trammel. The entrance is fairly close to Wind.Good Luck!

Lore

I brought it to the exit of the cave, and fired energy bolts at it, then i would go out of the cave and heal myself then go back in and it would walk away a bit, fire another energy bolt and continue like that until it subdued.

I'm a mage and I can tame these without a problem. Try and find a combo of spells that works with your eval and magery level, for me its two chain lightnings and an e-bolt. These can be out-run extremely easily in the area I tame them in, but I almost suggest letting it hit you if you don't want to run too far. Once it hits you it will slow down to a snail like pace. Heal yourself and repeat. For me the only problem is making sure once it is tame it doesn't kill a solen :P.

Easy as Pie

These are actually very easy to tame, I brought a tamer friend and used my GM Macer to beat it down, I had no trouble at all. The only speed up if you use Ranged weapons, and when they caught me after I E-Bolted it, I died in 1 hit.

If you poison them they start to run fast, then stop and stay.
They can be effectively beaten and tamed then...

mares and beetles

what I usually do is bring a mare and sick it on the beetle - only takes like 2-3 hits, then hop back on the mare and tame the beetle. Once its tamed, I get on the beetle and drag the mare, since it can defend itself if it needs to - a bit more tedious, having to walk all the way back out of the hole, but pretty effective.

Response to "Replie"

Well, I have a Legendary Tamer and he has 110 Magery, I use the Staff of Power and Magery rings to boost my magery back to 110. When I do this, I hit regularly because my fighting skill is in effect 110. When I connect with a meleee hit on the beast, it start charging around maniacly. Some say that only ranged attacks make it do this, but I think what happens to me is proof enough.

the giant beetles only attak faster if you use magic on them. I know from experance.

Taming the beetle...
Submitted by Lascivius Lam on October 21st 2004.
When taming giant beetles, it is imparitive that you yourself do not hit them as this will make them attack very quickly. My suggestion is to use a fighting skill that has nothing in it while attempting to tame these creatures. That way you will not hit them and make them come at you even faster.
