UO Stratics - Hunter's Guide - Nightmare
The Nightmare

General Information

These evil black steeds are extremely aggressive and will take great pleasure in killing anything
they can. They will make incredible steeds if they have been tamed and are therefore the creature most tamers in Britannia use as a mount.

The Nightmare, much like Dragons, has the ability to breathe fire. At full strength the firebreath will do about 20-30 damage. As all other creatures with firebreath, it will change targets if anyone moves around it.

The Nightmare spawns in 4 different shades (only visible in 2D), some more sought after than others, but it is purely for looks.
There is no difference in the stats and skills of the different shades of Nightmares.

Click here to see the stats and skills of this creature if it spawns as a Paragon in Ilshenar.

Unlike Cu's, these Nightmares will try or kill you almost as soon as they see you. Best tamed with a peacer. Beleive me, I tried once;Bam! I got killed a LOT. but they are really good killers and(oncde they are on your side) they are very usefull. I do not recommend beginners to try and kill a Nightmare.

a good method is to weaken the mare until the health bar is almost completely red, and then get one or two other people to heal you while you walk ahead of the mare taming it, but walk with it, and don't let it touch you, or you will anger it and this will stop the taming.

Awesome Mare

I was able to tame on with my Bard/Tamer/Archer. It's magic attacks were weak, but it's physical attacks were tough. Not too difficult to tame with 95 taming.

Mares easy or hard to tame

for a tamer/peacer they are somewhat easy to tame but for a mage/tamer they can be difficult.Mine was quite hard to tame because i am a mage/tamer.

My Nightmare
Submitted by Anonymous on September 7th 2005.
During the Orc attack on Cove, I was killed a few times and lost track of my nightmare, Belladonna. By the time I res'd and retrieved my property, I found Belladonna around the corner from the docks, standing serenely amidst a vast pile of corpses! Right there I made nearly 10k. It would have been more except many corpses "timed out".

Mare is the base of all Combinations

While it is good to have a trained WW/dragon or rune beetle, having your mare trained up to fight along side them is a sure bet to a fast kill.

Easy to Tame/

A single Nightmare spawns at the end of a tunnel in the Ki'rin passage. Take a right at the four way intersection and take it to the end where there is a building ruin. A single nightmare spawns there and makes taming easy. Just peace/paralyze and tame. If you 'anger the beast' just run in a circle around the ruin. You will stay out of melee range and his fire-breath and magic will do little damage with good resist. Keep trying and you should have one in no time.

Not hard to tame

Nightmares can be nasty to tame if you let your guard down. For a peace/tamer, sure, it's easy. There's a little more challenge for a mage/tamer. Using spells, or another pet, you should deplete its health to near death. This cripples his fire-breathing ability, since its damage depends on its hit points. Then keep your distance as you spam your tame/last target macro. Make sure to keep his hitpoints low!

I love my mare!

Mine seems to have a personality. It will often finish a monster off with a fireball and occasionally when told to kill a low level creature while it is working on something else it tosses a fireball or an Ebolt at it without moving, only turning to fire. Often It survives when I take a dirt nap and kills whatever killed me as well. Hirius will not replace the Mare!

I have about 3 of these(2 pure, one not). They are very usefull especailly when you get there skills all the way up. A 7xGM mare can kill a serpintine dragon in less then 30 seconds. The give about 1k loot. So 2000*60mins =120k :) real good money makers. Make Sure you have Vet thought to many without supervison will kill them.

If that does not happen for you, then you need to upgrade your Windows Media Player, or install an MP3 player such as WinAmp. Both MP3 players are free of charge.
