UO Stratics - Hunter's Guide - White Wyrm
The White Wyrm

General Information

White Wyrms have no fire breathing ability which is compensated by their high magic ability. Where a Dragon would serve your corpse 'medium rare', a White Wyrm will cook you 'well done'. They cast magic spells from circles 1 thru 7, without the summoning and area effect spells except mass curse.

White Wyrms can polymorph into human form and surprise the unwary traveller. Clicking the White Wyrm's paperdoll in his polymorphed shape will show you it is "a white wyrm the mystic llamaherder".

Going out of style

These white dragons are being replaced by Rune Beetles in tamers' stables. The beetles will often do a combo of corrupt armor/bleed/deadly poison/flamestrike, WWs are nothing compared to them.

Get a dragon slayer spell book. Cast corpse skin.
Fireball a few times till death.
Animate dead.
Rinse and repeat...

Needs a boost
Submitted by Anonymous on December 5th 2008.
Back before AoS the white wyrm was respected and feared. It was the pride of tamers and the fear of warriors. It could be solo'ed by archers - but not by melee warriors. Now they are just pushovers because of their low fire resist. And giant dogs are tamers best friends. A mage with a dragon/reptile slayer spellbook can kill one with fire balls... They need some kind of boost in my opinion.

I hunt these all the time for gold and barbed leather, Using my Fencer/Paladin with a Dragon Slayer. There down in about 4 hits. Easy money.

simple kills

my skills are 110 magery, 110 eval, 100 med, 100 sw, 100 inscription, 90 hiding, 90 poisoning. equipping a reptile slayer spellbook, I precast explosion before I get to the wyrm, run up and target it, then immediately follow with two flamestrikes. dead white wyrm on the second flamestrike. precast explosion, wait for next spawn, and repeat.

Did these just get stronger?
Submitted by Anonymous on May 8th 2007.
I used to smoke these with paladin swordsman using a dragon slayer but I ate a very quick death to one today. I thought it a fluke so I resd, healed, and put my gear back on and was promptly toasted again! Maybe I remember them being easier than they were, but it seems like they got stronger!

Cant believe how easy these are! Use a decent warrior with full 70 suit, dragon slayer and chivalry enemy of one and consecrate weapon. They die in 10 seconds! Easy loot and fame!

Wyrm Taming...
Submitted by Anonymous on May 15th 2006.
The "anger" message you recieve happens with a few of the more aggressive tames, including dragons. I'd suggest holding down a taming macro, with: Use Skill (Taming), Wait for Target, Last Target. When you anger the beast, it immediately resets the timer... if you survive the barrage of spells, you'll probably start a taming attempt in a few seconds.

Taming

i couldn't tame a WW while my animal taming, lore, musicianship and peacemaking are 100. he gets angry all the time... what can i do?

Easy for Tamer!

I use a Mare and Rune Beetle on them(dont have to be GMed). They make quick work of any WW. (10 -20 sec).

Killable With A Warrior
Submitted by Anonymous on November 30th 2005.
Not too difficult to solo on a warrior with at least 2 cast Chivalry and 4 second bandage heals. I can kill WWs pretty consistently on my warrior, and I very rarely have to run away to heal (maybe once out of every 10 WWs I fight do I have to run away to heal).

Warrior/Mage

The easiest way is, summon a deamon, force the deamon to attack the wyrm, and attack the wyrm with a weapon which has paralyzing blow.

not good for a warrior
Submitted by Anonymous on July 7th 2005.
i tryed one of these things and me and my lesser hiryu were dead before you knew it. So my advice to a warrior is to stay away. I mean my gow i had mages healin me.Three mages at that, so u kno!!

Poison= pointless
Submitted by Anonymous on July 2nd 2005.
Poison is useless against the White Wyrm, unlike against a dragon, the cast grater cure as soon as they get poisoned, usually before the first round hits, which cures almost all poisons, unless of corse it's out of mana and you feal lucky, don't poison them.

The Nefarious Saryu, Grandmaster Bard
Submitted by Anonymous on February 21st 2005.
Okay, this is about as easy as it gets. As a bard/necromancer I go the Ice and kill the rat men. the rat men will give you bone magi (assuming you're grandmaster necro) which is very useful. When you get to the white wyrm nest, calm (peacemake) the white wyrm and sic the bone magi after him. Just sit back and cast strangle/poison strike until the white wyrm dies. From here on out just animate the dead body into a skeletal dragon, calm the wyrm, sic the dragon. Follow this method till you have 3 skeletal dragons. My record time of killing a white wyrm is 6 seconds with the skeletal dragons. Good luck, and have fun!

Very easy...

I believe this is the easuest dragon-like monstrer to kill for a mage, as it doesn't have auto-dispel ability. Just summon a Daemon and heal it when needed. That's all

inquaries
Submitted by Anonymous on December 4th 2004.
first, a WW's lowest resist was fire... i believe you meant fire resist is around 25% at max... also, a ww is easier for a warrior type than a dragon because dragon has ranged attack and a ww's physical attack is typically weaker because his damage is divided equally into 2 types, physical and cold, with the new armor system you can resist 70% of the physical and 70% of the cold...

Ahhh happiness
Submitted by Anonymous on November 21st 2004.
I found that it actually eats gold too! Now who'd a thunk that a pile of gold would make a dragon type happy...
